Bug#314419: openoffice.org: Please have option to disable ALT selects menu behaviour

2005-06-16 Thread Tim Connors
Package: openoffice.org
Version: 1.1.4-3
Severity: normal

If you use a window manager that has bindings for ALT-mouse (say, ALT
left mouse moves current app to front), then openoffice takes that to
mean I want to select the menubar. I have to press ALT again, to
deselect the menubar, which really stuffs with my workflow, and can
end up doing unexpected things if I am typing ahead.

Since this is a windows like behaviour, and I am using Linux so as not
to have to put up with Window's annoying behaviours, I would like the
ability to not have this happen. No other linux app has the behaviour
of selecting the menu upon the press of ALT. Please let me turn off
that behaviour in openoffice too.

Thanks.

Hi,

Bug#312973: kernel-image-2.6.11-1-686: intel8x0 clock?

2005-06-16 Thread Chris Howie
Package: kernel-image-2.6.11-1-686
Version: 2.6.11-5
Followup-For: Bug #312973

While scanning /var/log/kern.log I found these lines:

intel8x0_measure_ac97_clock: measured 49946 usecs
intel8x0: clocking to 47473

The values vary. I've seen the following combinations:

measured 49946 / clocking to 47473
measured 49915 / clocking to 47444
measured 49943 / clocking to 47470
measured 49944 / clocking to 47471

If I understand this correctly, it means that something is firing once
per 49946 useconds, and the kernel thinks that it should be firing every
47473 useconds, and so it tries to compensate for it.

All of the above pairs have a ratio of about 1.05, measured to clocked.
This would mean a forward drift of about 3 seconds per minute. Again,
this is assuming that I am reading this message correctly.

I will try to keep a log of the drift and see if it corroborates this
data.

P.S. Is AC'97 a whole motherboard chipset, or only an audio card? If it
is an audio card, this is probably related to sound timing -- if so, it
could be detecting the system drift and thereby correcting the audio
timing, making my MP3s play at normal speed (which I rather enjoy), but
not correcting the system clock problem (which I'd really like fixed).

P.P.S. This should all prove that I know absolutely nothing about the
kernel.

Bug#314292: postgresql-common: stop fails

2005-06-16 Thread Martin Pitt
Hi!

Josh Narins [2005-06-15 11:46 -0400]:
  /etc/init.d/postgresql-7.4 stop
 calls /usr/share/postgresql-common/init.d-functions

This then asks for a Password:

which stops shutdown of the machine.

Yesterday I debugged this with another user who had the same problem.
Before doing a cluster operation, the wrapper scripts probe whether
the cluster is running. Currently they use psql -l for that, but
this asks for a password if you don't use ident sameuser, but
md5/password for local connections (which does not make too much
sense, but apparently some people do that).

I'm currently looking for a way to probe the postmaster without ever
asking for a password. Unfortunately psql does not have a
--no-password option, so I think I'll add a small custom program to
some package. It's a bit tricky since postgresql-common is Arch: all,
but I'll find a way.

So in the meantime, please just disable local md5 authentication if
possible.

Martin

Bug#314425: ncurses-base: new xterm terminfo data appears to be wack with sarge's xterm [regression from 5.4-4]

2005-06-16 Thread Branden Robinson
Package: ncurses-base
Version: 5.4-6
Severity: important

My apologies if this isn't actually important, but it makes xterm too
unpleasant to use for me, and I'm far too old and set in my ways to use a
different terminal emulator or stop using color.

After upgrading my machine today and coming home to reattach my screen
session, I got horrible corruption. Sometimes the characters immediately
following a color escape sequence would be eaten (easy test case: ls
--color=always -a -- the first character on the line after the double-dot
directory entry gets eaten); other times (such as in irssi windows) I'd be
kicked into DEC alternate character set mode. Sometimes CTRL-L would
restore the normal character set, but I'd still be missing characters
adjacent to color escape sequences. Sometimes I'd have to do a soft
reset or full reset.

Downgrading ncurses-base from 5.4-6 to 5.4-4 resolved the issue. N.B., I
did *not* have to downgrade any other ncurses binary package, so I suspect
the terminfo used in 5.4-6 (5.4-5?) simply isn't compatible with sarge's
xterm, which is pretty close to bone-stock XTerm #200 release by Thomas
Dickey.

Thanks again. ++beer for debconf if you happen to come.

Given that the package autobuilt on all arches already and we don't

Bug#314428: pon should become symlink to ifup

2005-06-16 Thread Eduard Bloch
Package: ppp
Version: 2.4.3-20050321+2
Severity: normal

Hello,

the subject says it all. Currently, you forced most DSL users to
have an interfaces entry for getting the ethernet interface up (*).

So, by default pon is broken now, since the interface is down after the
reboot. IMO to fix that problem, either hooks in the config files needs
to be fixed for pppoe connections (to run ifconfig from them (**)), or
you should continue with the next logical step: throw away pon and make
symlink pon/poff to ifup/ifdown.

The transition should not be very complicated - first you make sure that
everything works well within ppp, then you pass this bug over to
ifupdown where some things need to be adopted (recognizing pon/poff as
command names).

Regards,
Eduard.

(*): just for cosmetics reasons which I still do not understand but
unfortunately the maintainer is always right rule applies
(**): which is a pain in the ass or just bloat, you need to run a
separate tool just to enable an interface that belongs to this
connection anyway

Bug#314426: openoffice.org: Disabling of startup splash screen

2005-06-16 Thread Tim Connors
Package: openoffice.org
Version: 1.1.4-3
Severity: normal

The bootup splash can be disabled (only by the administrator, it
appears, unfortunately, which is something I think needs to be
changed) by:

35789,9 cat /etc/openoffice/sofficerc
[Bootstrap]
Logo=0

But doing so on a slow computer still means I lose input access to
what was running on the screen for a few (many, sometimes) seconds
before openoffice displays, which is some random long time after which
I may have even forgotten that I launched an openoffice session (say,
via the browser). The screen stops being updated, and nothing accepts
input anymore, but I don't recall whether my typed ahead input ends up
in openoffice or not.

So two requests for the splash screen: It should be disableable by the
user, not the admin only, and if disabled, openoffice should not grab
whatever it is grabbing from X and/or the window manager for those few
seconds.

Thanks.

Bug#312086: luola: does not start on ppc

2005-06-16 Thread Eddy Petrisor
Christian, I made a change to the debian package - NMU change, as I
was tired of aptitude installing debian's official version of luola
  over mine.

You uploaded a new package? I don't see anything. Did you make sure it still
works on little endian after your changes?

Sorry, I wasn't too clear; No, no upload, but I modified my local
version and the diff.gz (relative to the original package source -
orig.tar.gz) file was attached.

IANADD, so I can't upload and I would not do that without your
aproval, if I could and was a DD.

Technically there is no change in the package (the debian specific
stuff, except for the bumped version number), but the diff.gz contains
all the patches that should be applied on the orig.tar.gz file to
obtain the version I have (that works).

To sumarize, the patch is more useful if one wants to have all the
patches together and the debug printf-s I added.

Bug#311286: davfs2: WebDAV URL's with spaces do not work

2005-06-16 Thread Werner Baumann

Hello David,

it is a shell problem. When typing the mount command you must escape
spaces in arguments and options with '\' to prevent the shell from
(mis)interpreting them. But you must not do any encoding with respect to
http, as this will be done by davfs2.

So you should write your url like this:
http://vista.sun.ac.za:80/webct/webdav/146.232.128.129-1099131904310-2015121000.4753974000/My\
Files/mathml

The shell will now deliver the correct url to mount.davfs:
http://vista.sun.ac.za:80/webct/webdav/146.232.128.129-1099131904310-2015121000.4753974000/My
Files/mathml

davfs2 will do the correct http-encoding. On the wire your url will be:
http://vista.sun.ac.za:80/webct/webdav/146.232.128.129-1099131904310-2015121000.4753974000/My%20Files/mathml

This will be understood by the WebDAV-server.

Greetings

Bug#314401: yelp and mozilla dependences

2005-06-16 Thread Josselin Mouette
Le mercredi 15 juin 2005 20:42 -0500, Carlos C Soto a crit :
 Package: yelp
 Version: 2.10.0-2
 Debian-version: testing/unstable

I was upgrading my debian unstable pc and I notice that the new
version of yelp now depends on mozilla-browser and mozilla-dev for
 building.
I like very much mozilla but I prefer to use thunderbird and firefox,
and I have no mozilla-browser on my system with debian unstable +
 gnome.
I had notice that gnome does not depends directly on mozilla and since
your package does, now gnome-core depends indirectly from
mozilla-browser. I also notice that yelp now uses a embedded mozilla
but since yelp also compiles against firefox and the library
libgtkembedmoz.so is provided by other packages(1) I was thinking
about you could change the yelp dependences, maybe including the
library as the other packages or changing the dependences to
 mozilla-browser | mozilla-thunderbird | nvu. Another option could be
to package libgtkembedmoz into a separate package but I dont know how
much difficult could be, anyway I assume that
libgtkembedmoz.so is the library who makes yelp depends on
 mozilla-browser.

The different libgtkembedmoz.so are not binary-compatible. They aren't
even versioned. We all know this is completely broken, but the mozilla
maintainer still refuses to version them and split them out.

Bug#314427: contains too many files

2005-06-16 Thread Martin Pitt
tag 314427 wontfix
thanks

Hi Peter!

Peter Eisentraut [2005-06-16 9:06 +0200]:
 Package: libpq-dev
 Version: 8.0.3-5
 Severity: normal

Some of the header files included in this package are not for libpq
 development
and should be moved to postgresql-server-dev, namely:

 usr/include/postgresql/8.0/c.h libdevel/libpq-dev
 usr/include/postgresql/8.0/catalog/pg_type.hlibdevel/libpq-dev
 usr/include/postgresql/8.0/nodes/nodes.hlibdevel/libpq-dev
 usr/include/postgresql/8.0/port.h libdevel/libpq-dev
 usr/include/postgresql/8.0/postgres.h libdevel/libpq-dev
 usr/include/postgresql/8.0/postgres_ext.h libdevel/libpq-dev
 usr/include/postgresql/8.0/postgres_fe.hlibdevel/libpq-dev
 usr/include/postgresql/8.0/utils/elog.h libdevel/libpq-dev
 usr/include/postgresql/8.0/utils/errcodes.h libdevel/libpq-dev
 usr/include/postgresql/8.0/utils/palloc.h libdevel/libpq-dev

These files have not been in the first libpq-dev packages, but I added
them while doing the PostgreSQL client transition for main. Many
client packages need e. g. pg_type.h. All of these files are required
by at least one client package.

BTW, these files are present in -server-dev, too (i. e. in the server/
subdirectory), but I moved them to libpq-dev to avoid build-depending
on -server-dev in some client packages.

Clients that require pg_type.h are buggy and should fix their code or
adjust their dependencies.

Bug#314439: mozilla-thunderbird: activity bar during folder open exceeds its limits

2005-06-16 Thread Alexander Mader
Package: mozilla-thunderbird
Version: 1.0.2-3
Severity: minor

Hello,

first of all: Many thanks for packaging and maintaining thunderbird!

During the process of opening an IMAP mail folder activity is
indicated by a moving bar in the lower margin near the right side,
just beside the two status fields for unread and all messages in the
folder to open, respectively. Besides this moving bar a permanent
rectangle is displayed---presumably the border of the moving bar.

The bar movement exceeds the border rectangle both at the left and
the right hand side.

Best regards,

Alexander Mader.

Bug#314432: libesmtp(GNU/k*BSD): FTBFS: out of date libtool scripts

2005-06-16 Thread Aurelien Jarno
Package: libesmtp
Version: N/A
Severity: wishlist

Hello,

The current version of libesmtp fails to build on
GNU/kFreeBSD, because of outdated libtool.

The version of libtool in libesmtp is too old to correctly
support Debian GNU/k*BSD. libtool 1.5.2-1 or later is need.

Here is how to update the libtool in your package (Make sure you
are using libtool 1.5.2-1 or later):
  libtoolize -c -f
aclocal (-Im4 might be needed if there's an m4 template dir)
  autoconf

It would also be nice if you can ask upstream to update libtool
in their next release.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Bug#314437: xmame-x: possible patch for new dpkg-architecture behavior

2005-06-16 Thread Mark Nipper
Package: xmame-x
Version: 0.97-1
Severity: important
Tags: patch

While building a recent version of mame using the most recent
0.97 source release along with the Debian specific files from 0.96, I
ran across this new issue because of a change in behavior for
dpkg-architecture.

I attached a patch, but feel free to handle this however. This
is more of a heads up than anything else.

Bug#314408: Debian NPTL seems broken

Ah, I see that 314408 is an amd64 thing, so mine is either 276312, or
some other NPTL. In any case, the version of NPTL in Debian is not
ready for production use and should either be updated or turned off by

Bug#310385: Bug: #310385, pi floating point overflow, result of tests

2005-06-16 Thread Steve King
I have run a number of tests, not terribly scientifically
organised! Although I haven't found the point where pi starts to
fail, it is worth keeping you informed of developments.

Sorry for the long delay, each run takes a while!

Your test program:
sizestate error
10 failFloating point overflow
64000 pass
65000 failFloating point overflow
646456992 failFloating point overflow
646456991 failFloating point overflow
64640 pass
64645 pass
646456900 failFloating point overflow
646456800 failFloating point overflow
646456000 pass
646456500 pass
646456700 failFloating point overflow
646456650 failFloating point overflow
646456610 pass
646456620 failFloating point overflow
646456630 failFloating point overflow
646456640 failFloating point overflow
646456610 pass
646456611 pass
646456612 pass
646456613 pass
646456614 pass
646456615 failFloating point overflow
646456616 failFloating point overflow
646456617 failFloating point overflow
646456618 failFloating point overflow
646456619 failFloating point overflow

So failure occurs at 646456614

With pi, which takes much longer to run,

sizestate error
pi 646456614failInternal error: statement in file
float/output/cl_F_dprint.cc, line 359 has been reached!!Please send the authors
of the program a description how you produced this
error!pi 646456615 failFloating point overflow
pi 646456613failInternal error: statement in file
float/output/cl_F_dprint.cc, line 359 has been reached!!Please send the authors
of the program a description how you produced this
error!
So, it seems I have provoked another, separate problem.
But I can confirm that pi with values 646456614 causes the floating
point overflow I originally reported.

I will keep looking for pi's failure value.

Bug#314441: evince: Can not display the quick reference of evolution

2005-06-16 Thread Hongzheng Wang

Subject: evince: Can not display the quick reference of evolution
Package: evince
Version: 0.3.0-2
Severity: normal

*** Please type your report below this line ***
Hello,

Recently the gnome 2.10 has begun gone into sid and evince has been
assigned to the default pdf viewer. It's a good news since evince is so
excellent. For evolution, however, there is a problem. That is, evince
can not display the quick reference pdf of evolution. It means that
when a user try to see the quick reference he gets only a blank one
except a evolution icon, since evince is the default pdf handler in
gnome environment.

It is a little problem, but really is the least of perfection.

Thank you.

In particular, it doesn't enable interpolation of (low quality) samples.
Could this either be turned on permanently or made configurable?

Bug#314442: hplip: Black text rendering problem with djgenericvip driver

2005-06-16 Thread Chris Halls
Package: hplip
Version: 0.9.3-1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

When upgrading my woody server to sarge I encountered this problem.
Black text is not rendered properly on certain documents on my dj 5652,
which uses the djgenericvip driver. The documents that don't render
properly seem to be those that have colour sections on the same level as
the text. A bit of searching found I'm not the only one to have these
problems:

http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?thread_id=1284445forum_id=53438

The workaround suggested does indeed work for me. I have created a
dpatch for the package which is attached. Please can you add it to the
package until this is resolved properly upstream?

Thanks
Chris

Hello,

The current version of ledstats fails to build on GNU/kFreeBSD,
because kfreebsd-i386 is not listed in the Architecture: field.

Could you please add kfreebsd-i386 to the list of the supported
architectures?

You could do that automatically by running:

Thanks for your cooperation.

Hal will never run on a 2.4 kernel, it just bails out. The problem will be

best way to solve the problem now is to upgrade to a 2.6 kernel.

running /usr/sbin/apt-proxy identifies the problem correctly (ie the

It says it has not been tested, but for me it works ok. I uploaded 1.9.31

Bug#314435: libc6-dev: struct timespec and nanosleep() not available with -std=c99

2005-06-16 Thread Lars Wirzenius
to, 2005-06-16 kello 10:47 +0200, Baurzhan Ismagulov kirjoitti:
 #include time.h

 int main(void)
 {
   struct timespec a;
   nanosleep(a, a);
   return 0;
 }

Compilation with gcc -Wall -g -std=c99 produces the following errors:

 c.c: In Funktion main:
c.c:5: error: storage size of `a' isn't known
c.c:6: Warnung: implicit declaration of function `nanosleep'
 c.c:5: Warnung: unused variable `a'

The same source is compiled finely without -std=c99.

The -std=c99 option means that you want strict compliance to the 1999

struct timespec and nanosleep are POSIX, and should be defined in time.h
according to SUSv3 (see, e.g.,
http://www.opengroup.org/onlinepubs/007908799/xsh/nanosleep.html). I
don't see why strict C99 compliance should affect that header. I think
it is a bug.

Bug#314444: gnus: byte-compiling for emacs21 fails

2005-06-16 Thread Michael Prokop
Package: gnus
Version: 5.10.6-0.CVS.20050610-1
Severity: important

I've reported this issue against package emacsen-common already once
(see #281129).

Running:
  /usr/lib/emacsen-common/emacs-package-install gnus-bonus-el
fails with:

[...]
install/gnus: Byte-compiling for emacs21...found emacs21 \
  ../usr/lib/emacsen-common/packages/install/gnus:trap:77: \
  undefined signal: exit
[...]

This happens on my system(s) using zsh as /bin/sh.

Line 77 of /usr/lib/emacsen-common/packages/install/gnus contains:

trap test -f $LOG mv -f $LOG $ELCDIR/install.log /dev/null 21 exit

I suggest changing 'trap ... exit' to 'trap ... EXIT'.

Even when debian doesn't ship any packages that use GTK+ 1.2, you can't
know when there is no more software in the world that uses it. It's not
kind to break third-party legacy software, and it only contributes to
the myth that Linux/Free-Software doesn't have stable development

Sorry, I merged that bug to another one which was not quite the same.

 G'day,

I noticed that the post-upgrade started the server. It didn't run before
 upgrading.

May I suggest that the idea from ssh be used? That is, if a certain file
exists, then don't try starting the server. Code below from my
 init.d/postgresql-7.4.

 check_for_no_start() {
 # forget it if we're trying to start, and /etc/ssh/sshd_not_to_be_run
 exists
 if [ -e /etc/ssh/sshd_not_to_be_run ]; then
echo OpenBSD Secure Shell server not in use
 (/etc/ssh/sshd_not_to_be_run)
 exit 0
 fi

Hm, of course I won't check /etc/ssh/sshd_not_to_be_run in PostgreSQL.
:-) Also, such a tag file is evil (checking /etc/default/package is
the recommended way of doing such a thing).

Adding such a check to the init script is not really what you want
either. If you did that, you could not start the database manually any
more. If you want to disable a service in a particular runlevel,
remove the /etc/rcN.d/ symlink.

However, it should be possible to not start the postmasters if they
were not running before the upgrade; that's what you really want as
far as I can see. I'll look into that.

The C standard guarantees (see page 166, 7.1.3, Reserved identifiers,
if you have a copy) that the standard headers do not define identifiers
that the C standard does not explicitly declare as defined by the
standard, reserved for future versions of the standard, or reserved to
the implementation. struct timespec and nanosleep are not such
identifiers.

Thus, it is clearly not a bug.

If you want to use nanosleep, do not compile with -std=c99. See the GNU
libc documentation, 1.2 Standards and Portability, for information on
how to choose and ask for support for the standards you need.

Bug#314445: gnome-volume-manager: Would like an option to umount a CD in addition of eject

2005-06-16 Thread Jean-Luc Coulon (f5ibh)
Package: gnome-volume-manager
Version: 1.2.1-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

When a CD is automounted, a right-click on the icon allows to eject or open the
device but there is no option to umount the device.

If you want to burn a CD-RW containing some data, it is mounted at insertion
and then the software doesnt want to erase it becaue it is mounted.

A umount option like for USB keys would be nice.

Subject: Denial of Service Vulnerability in Apache SpamAssassin 3.0.1-3.0.3

Apache SpamAssassin 3.0.4 was recently released [0], and fixes a denial
of service vulnerability in versions 3.0.1, 3.0.2, and 3.0.3. The
vulnerability allows certain misformatted long message headers to cause
spam checking to take a very long time.

While the exploit has yet to be seen in the wild, we are concerned that
there may be attempts to abuse the vulnerability in the future.
Therefore, we strongly recommend all users of these versions upgrade to
Apache SpamAssassin 3.0.4 as soon as possible.

This issue has been assigned CVE id CAN-2005-1266 [1].
