Bug#314419: openoffice.org: Please have option to disable ALT selects menu behaviour
Package: openoffice.org Version: 1.1.4-3 Severity: normal If you use a window manager that has bindings for ALT-mouse (say, ALT left mouse moves current app to front), then openoffice takes that to mean I want to select the menubar. I have to press ALT again, to deselect the menubar, which really stuffs with my workflow, and can end up doing unexpected things if I am typing ahead. Since this is a windows like behaviour, and I am using Linux so as not to have to put up with Window's annoying behaviours, I would like the ability to not have this happen. No other linux app has the behaviour of selecting the menu upon the press of ALT. Please let me turn off that behaviour in openoffice too. Thanks. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.4.26 Locale: LANG=en_AU, LC_CTYPE=en_AU (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Versions of packages openoffice.org depends on: ii dictionaries-common [openoffi 0.30.0 Common utilities for spelling dict ii openoffice.org-bin1.1.4-3OpenOffice.org office suite binary ii openoffice.org-debian-files 1.1.4-3+1 Debian specific parts of OpenOffic ii openoffice.org-l10n-en [openo 1.1.4-3English (US) language package for ii ttf-opensymbol1.1.4-3The OpenSymbol TrueType font ii xml-core 0.09 XML infrastructure and XML catalog -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#312973: kernel-image-2.6.11-1-686: intel8x0 clock?
Package: kernel-image-2.6.11-1-686 Version: 2.6.11-5 Followup-For: Bug #312973 While scanning /var/log/kern.log I found these lines: intel8x0_measure_ac97_clock: measured 49946 usecs intel8x0: clocking to 47473 The values vary. I've seen the following combinations: measured 49946 / clocking to 47473 measured 49915 / clocking to 47444 measured 49943 / clocking to 47470 measured 49944 / clocking to 47471 If I understand this correctly, it means that something is firing once per 49946 useconds, and the kernel thinks that it should be firing every 47473 useconds, and so it tries to compensate for it. All of the above pairs have a ratio of about 1.05, measured to clocked. This would mean a forward drift of about 3 seconds per minute. Again, this is assuming that I am reading this message correctly. I will try to keep a log of the drift and see if it corroborates this data. P.S. Is AC'97 a whole motherboard chipset, or only an audio card? If it is an audio card, this is probably related to sound timing -- if so, it could be detecting the system drift and thereby correcting the audio timing, making my MP3s play at normal speed (which I rather enjoy), but not correcting the system clock problem (which I'd really like fixed). P.P.S. This should all prove that I know absolutely nothing about the kernel. -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.11-1-686 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Versions of packages kernel-image-2.6.11-1-686 depends on: ii coreutils [fileutils] 5.2.1-2The GNU core utilities ii fileutils 5.2.1-2The GNU file management utilities ii initrd-tools 0.1.81.1 tools to create initrd image for p ii module-init-tools 3.2-pre1-2 tools for managing Linux kernel mo -- no debconf information --- [This E-mail scanned for viruses by Declude Virus] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#314292: postgresql-common: stop fails
Hi! Josh Narins [2005-06-15 11:46 -0400]: /etc/init.d/postgresql-7.4 stop calls /usr/share/postgresql-common/init.d-functions This then asks for a Password: which stops shutdown of the machine. Yesterday I debugged this with another user who had the same problem. Before doing a cluster operation, the wrapper scripts probe whether the cluster is running. Currently they use psql -l for that, but this asks for a password if you don't use ident sameuser, but md5/password for local connections (which does not make too much sense, but apparently some people do that). I'm currently looking for a way to probe the postmaster without ever asking for a password. Unfortunately psql does not have a --no-password option, so I think I'll add a small custom program to some package. It's a bit tricky since postgresql-common is Arch: all, but I'll find a way. So in the meantime, please just disable local md5 authentication if possible. Bug#314425: ncurses-base: new xterm terminfo data appears to be wack with sarge's xterm [regression from 5.4-4]
Package: ncurses-base Version: 5.4-6 Severity: important My apologies if this isn't actually important, but it makes xterm too unpleasant to use for me, and I'm far too old and set in my ways to use a different terminal emulator or stop using color. After upgrading my machine today and coming home to reattach my screen session, I got horrible corruption. Sometimes the characters immediately following a color escape sequence would be eaten (easy test case: ls --color=always -a -- the first character on the line after the double-dot directory entry gets eaten); other times (such as in irssi windows) I'd be kicked into DEC alternate character set mode. Sometimes CTRL-L would restore the normal character set, but I'd still be missing characters adjacent to color escape sequences. Sometimes I'd have to do a soft reset or full reset. Downgrading ncurses-base from 5.4-6 to 5.4-4 resolved the issue. N.B., I did *not* have to downgrade any other ncurses binary package, so I suspect the terminfo used in 5.4-6 (5.4-5?) simply isn't compatible with sarge's xterm, which is pretty close to bone-stock XTerm #200 release by Thomas Dickey. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: powerpc (ppc) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.9-powerpc-smp Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#314428: pon should become symlink to ifup
Package: ppp Version: 2.4.3-20050321+2 Severity: normal Hello, the subject says it all. Currently, you forced most DSL users to have an interfaces entry for getting the ethernet interface up (*). So, by default pon is broken now, since the interface is down after the reboot. IMO to fix that problem, either hooks in the config files needs to be fixed for pppoe connections (to run ifconfig from them (**)), or you should continue with the next logical step: throw away pon and make symlink pon/poff to ifup/ifdown. The transition should not be very complicated - first you make sure that everything works well within ppp, then you pass this bug over to ifupdown where some things need to be adopted (recognizing pon/poff as command names). Regards, Eduard. Bug#314426: openoffice.org: Disabling of startup splash screen
Package: openoffice.org Version: 1.1.4-3 Severity: normal The bootup splash can be disabled (only by the administrator, it appears, unfortunately, which is something I think needs to be changed) by: 35789,9 cat /etc/openoffice/sofficerc [Bootstrap] Logo=0 But doing so on a slow computer still means I lose input access to what was running on the screen for a few (many, sometimes) seconds before openoffice displays, which is some random long time after which I may have even forgotten that I launched an openoffice session (say, via the browser). The screen stops being updated, and nothing accepts input anymore, but I don't recall whether my typed ahead input ends up in openoffice or not. So two requests for the splash screen: It should be disableable by the user, not the admin only, and if disabled, openoffice should not grab whatever it is grabbing from X and/or the window manager for those few seconds. Bug#312086: luola: does not start on ppc
Christian, I made a change to the debian package - NMU change, as I was tired of aptitude installing debian's official version of luola over mine. You uploaded a new package? I don't see anything. Did you make sure it still works on little endian after your changes? Sorry, I wasn't too clear; No, no upload, but I modified my local version and the diff.gz (relative to the original package source - orig.tar.gz) file was attached. IANADD, so I can't upload and I would not do that without your aproval, if I could and was a DD. Technically there is no change in the package (the debian specific stuff, except for the bumped version number), but the diff.gz contains all the patches that should be applied on the orig.tar.gz file to obtain the version I have (that works). To sumarize, the patch is more useful if one wants to have all the patches together and the debug printf-s I added. -- Regards, EddyP = Imagination is more important than knowledge A.Einstein

Bug#311286: davfs2: WebDAV URL's with spaces do not work
Hello David, it is a shell problem. When typing the mount command you must escape spaces in arguments and options with '\' to prevent the shell from (mis)interpreting them. But you must not do any encoding with respect to http, as this will be done by davfs2. So you should write your url like this: http://vista.sun.ac.za:80/webct/webdav/146.232.128.129-1099131904310-2015121000.4753974000/My\ Files/mathml The shell will now deliver the correct url to mount.davfs: http://vista.sun.ac.za:80/webct/webdav/146.232.128.129-1099131904310-2015121000.4753974000/My Files/mathml davfs2 will do the correct http-encoding. On the wire your url will be: http://vista.sun.ac.za:80/webct/webdav/146.232.128.129-1099131904310-2015121000.4753974000/My%20Files/mathml This will be understood by the WebDAV-server. Bug#314401: yelp and mozilla dependences
Le mercredi 15 juin 2005 20:42 -0500, Carlos C Soto a crit : Package: yelp Version: 2.10.0-2 Debian-version: testing/unstable I was upgrading my debian unstable pc and I notice that the new version of yelp now depends on mozilla-browser and mozilla-dev for building. I like very much mozilla but I prefer to use thunderbird and firefox, and I have no mozilla-browser on my system with debian unstable + gnome. I had notice that gnome does not depends directly on mozilla and since your package does, now gnome-core depends indirectly from mozilla-browser. I also notice that yelp now uses a embedded mozilla but since yelp also compiles against firefox and the library libgtkembedmoz.so is provided by other packages(1) I was thinking about you could change the yelp dependences, maybe including the library as the other packages or changing the dependences to mozilla-browser | mozilla-thunderbird | nvu. Another option could be to package libgtkembedmoz into a separate package but I dont know how much difficult could be, anyway I assume that libgtkembedmoz.so is the library who makes yelp depends on mozilla-browser. The different libgtkembedmoz.so are not binary-compatible. They aren't even versioned. We all know this is completely broken, but the mozilla maintainer still refuses to version them and split them out. -- .''`. It didn't run before upgrading. May I suggest that the idea from ssh be used? That is, if a certain file exists, then don't try starting the server. Code below from my init.d/postgresql-7.4. check_for_no_start() { # forget it if we're trying to start, and /etc/ssh/sshd_not_to_be_run exists if [ -e /etc/ssh/sshd_not_to_be_run ]; then echo OpenBSD Secure Shell server not in use (/etc/ssh/sshd_not_to_be_run) exit 0 fi Hm, of course I won't check /etc/ssh/sshd_not_to_be_run in PostgreSQL. :-) Also, such a tag file is evil (checking /etc/default/package is the recommended way of doing such a thing). Adding such a check to the init script is not really what you want either. If you did that, you could not start the database manually any more. If you want to disable a service in a particular runlevel, remove the /etc/rcN.d/ symlink. However, it should be possible to not start the postmasters if they were not running before the upgrade; that's what you really want as far as I can see. I'll look into that. The C standard guarantees (see page 166, 7.1.3, Reserved identifiers, if you have a copy) that the standard headers do not define identifiers that the C standard does not explicitly declare as defined by the standard, reserved for future versions of the standard, or reserved to the implementation. struct timespec and nanosleep are not such identifiers. Thus, it is clearly not a bug. If you want to use nanosleep, do not compile with -std=c99.
