Bug#342202: question about sound recording

2005-12-06 Thread Robert Millan
Package: gnuboy
Severity: wishlist

FAQ reads:

Q: Will gnuboy ever support recording and playback?

A: We get this question fairly often, and I'm never sure how to answer
it. We are planning to support recording audio output before too
terribly long, but whether full demo recording and playback will ever
be supported is uncertain. We'll keep it in mind for the future,
  though.

I think a better answer is:

  http://packages.debian.org/unstable/sound/vsound

Please could you tell this to upstream as well? They'll probably like to know.

I'm guessing this bug is blocking 321551 and 320876.

I tried patching it myself yesterday, didn't get very far. Upstream

accepted.

Thanks to both of you for feedback on this bug. Hopefully we can get it

Bug#211217: most: Fixed UTF-8 output

Wonderful! I've test out the patch and it works great on my
system. I've applied it in whole.

While it is a good start for UTF-8, it will require more work to
integrate. For example, the patch to buffer.c:forward_columns does
not appear to properly handle tab characters, embedded backspaces,
etc. Such backspaces are used by manpages to simulate an overstrike,
 underline, etc, e.g.,

The attached patch fixes this case, plus other minor glitches with
multi-byte characters.

There is only one important glitch that I haven't been able to fix, and
seems like a bug in Slang or Gnome-Terminal. The attached file
most-test-long is displayed as expected, but some of the characters in
most-test-long-fmt wrap to the second line of the buffer. This seems to
be an artifact of formatting. As you'll see if you scroll the buffer to
the right, the few bold and underlined characters are sometimes
displayed with different spacing around them than in the plain version
of the document.

I've verified with the code below that most_analyse_line extracts at
most 80 columns (for my terminal) worth of text. However, the fact that
the terminal adds extra spacing when formatting is applied, causes the
output to wrap.

   len = most_analyse_line(beg, end, line, attr);
   p = line;
   for (i = 0; i  strlen(attr); i++) {
   SLwchar_Type wc;
   p = SLutf8_decode(p, line + line_len, wc, NULL);
   if (p)
   wc_len += SLwchar_wcwidth(wc);
   }
   assert(wc_len = SLtt_Screen_Cols);

2005-12-06 Thread Matthew Vernon
Hi,

Is there any further information? Or, already fixed? I can't

Sorry, I've been busy.

   1. Are there any files in /usr/share/xemacs21/site-lisp/gnus? Do
   you have *.elc files there?

Yes, 152 elc files. I have no idea where they came from,
though. Should they not be there?

   2. How about running this command?

   # dpkg-reconfigure gnus

This produced the following:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~# dpkg-reconfigure gnus
install/gnus: Ignoring emacs.
install/gnus: Ignoring emacs20.
install/gnus: Byte-compiling for emacs21...found emacs21 ..done.
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~#

   3. How about reinstalling gnus package?

   # apt-get --reinstall install gnus

I did this, too, and the xemacs21 install still complains. Would you
like the output again?

I don't know where this user came from, but it seems there's something special
about it ...

Now :

Sorry for late reply. Here is the output of 'id postgresql' :

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ id postgres

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$

I hope it can help ...

It indeed does. It should actually look like

   uid=116(postgres) gid=116(postgres) Gruppen=116(postgres)

 i. e. there are several things wrong about your user:

   * The user ID should be smaller than 1000 to make postgres a system
 user.
   * postgres should have its own system group instead of being in
group 'root'. This is the cause for your failure.

Since I do not believe that adduser --system created this user, I
strongly suspect that it existed before installing postgresql-common
already. It does not look like a regular user either, though - they
must not be in group 'root'.

Thus, a quickfix for you would be to do

   deluser postgres

and reinstall postgresql-common and postgresql-7.4. However, please
make double sure that you don't need that user for anything else.

I can add a check to the postgresql-common package that will make the
installation fail with a meaningful message if an invalid postgres
user already exists. However, there is not much more I could do about
 that.

 Thanks,

 Martin

this may stem from my unfamiliarity with tpu: how will the version of

the same version but different dependencies, which seems like a
 Bad Idea in general.

Yeah, it simply won't work. You'd need to give this build a distinguishing
version number that's the version in unstable; perhaps 5.0.16-0+etch1.

I'd advise against giving it a different upstream version number.

Bug#342206: dpkg-reconfigure does not work for phpldapadmin

2005-12-06 Thread Marc Blumentritt
Package: phpldapadmin
Version: 0.9.5-3sarge2
Severity: minor

When I use dpkg-reconfigure phpldapadmin nothing happens. I would
expect some debconf configuration dialog, which allows me to reconfigure
it. Only when I delete the files /etc/phpldapadmin/config.php and
/usr/share/phpldapadmin/config.php (link to
/etc/phpldapadmin/config.php), dpkg-reconfigure phpldapadmin works as
expected and presents the debconf configuration dialog.

Perhaps the mentioned files should be deleted by
/var/lib/dpkg/info/phpldapadmin.config, when it is called with the
reconfigure argument, but I do not know, if this is a good idea, since
I'm a noob in this area.

Regards,
Marc Blumentritt

If a webapp wants to use a DB, it is up to the maintainer of that

guess that I would simply link all those JDBC libraries which are in
main (actually, I probably need to do this when JSPWiki 2.4 comes
out), but some other maintainers might take a different approach. But,
still, this is not a Tomcat5 problem.

I'm not sure it's the responsability of JSPWiki to add symlinks in the
tomcat5 directory tree.

Maybe we can add a little script in tomcat5 to let an administrator add
a symlink if the package is installed, but what does happen if the
package is removed (libmysql-java or libpg-java or else)?

The idea of adding three or four one line package will be rejected by
ftp-masters as Kalle already said.

Maybe an explanation in the README file with a link to
http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-5.0-doc/jndi-datasource-examples-howto.html
can help.

Also, note that the configuration of tomcat5 should be done by an
administrator, not a usual user. An administrator should know about the
symlink to common/libs and has the right to do that.

Bug#335990: patch for making tipa conforming to current TeX policy

2005-12-06 Thread Norbert Preining
Hi Rafael and Frank!

On Mon, 05 Dez 2005, Frank Küster wrote:

FIRST to /etc/texmf/fonts/map/dvips, and after tetex has moved all

not a link to /etc/texmf/map anymore), a SECOND move to /u/s/t/f/m
Please check wether the code in preinst is actually what you want!!!

This will have the effect that the package does no longer work together
with tetex-2.0.2 which is still in testing, and requires the dependency
on tetex-* to be versioned accordingly. Therefore this part should not
be done until tetex-3.0 is in testing - there is a backward
compatibitity hack that makes tetex-3.0 mostly working with such
packages, and will only be dropped after it has been in testing long
enough that everybody has had time to upload fixed packages.

Completely right.

texlive does not have such a hack, therefore you can depend on
..|texlive-* only after the second part.

True. I forgot on this.

No problem with me. I have the texlive packages currently only
recommending the respective tipa package, but I will remove this
recommend as these packages do *not* work with texlive (texlive does
*not* search for /etc/texmf/maps/... - maybe I add a hack ...).

Sorry Frank again that I forgot about the testing transition.

Best wishes

Norbert

CANNOCK CHASE (n.)
In any box of After Eight Mints, there is always a large number of
empty envelopes and no more that four or five actual mints. The
cannock chase is the process by which, no matter which part of the box
often, you will always extract most of the empty sachets before
pinning down an actual minot, or 'cannock'. The cannock chase also
occurs with people who put their dead matches back in the matchbox,
and then embarrass themselves at parties trying to light cigarettes
with tree quarters of an inch of charcoal. The term is also used to
describe futile attempts to pursue unscrupulous advertising agencies
who nick your ideas to sell chocolates with.

Bug#342215: kmail crashes very oftenly on SPARC (other KDE apps crash too, but not so often)

2005-12-06 Thread Martin Marques
Package: kmail
Version: 4:3.4.2-2
Severity: critical
Justification: causes serious data loss

Since I upgraded KDE to 3.4.x, I'm getting unpleasant crashes on various KDE
applications
but the most serious, because of the frecuency in which it happens is kmail.

The worst part is that, as kmail is compiled without debuging symbols, I can't
debug
much on what's happening, and all I have are the signals with which it dies (4
Illegal
Instruction, and 11 Invalid memory reference).

*** KMail got signal 11 (Crashing)
KCrash: Application 'kmail' crashing...

And this doesn't happen when doing something especifically. For example, if I
type to fast
when composing, it sometimes crashes. Also I got crashes when configuring kmail
or filters.

Just a moment ago konsole died with no reason, and I wasn't even doing anything
with it.

KCrash: Application 'konsole' crashing...

This is very annoying.

Bug#325689: Bug severity + tags

2005-12-06 Thread Neil McGovern
Hi there,

I'm tagging this bug as security and upping the severity.

Justification:
A small script can be used to affect the availability of the parent
xserver if xloadimage is installed. If the resource limits of the
xserver are high enough, there is potential for the process table to
become saturated, leading to a loss of availability of the machine that
xloadimage is installed on.

I think there might be a security Problem with squirrelmail. I got 2

and some minutes later, there was a phishing Website installed in
/usr/share/squirrelmail/src/ with a directory .us/ and some stuff below

As I got no idea what else could have happend...maybe you can help

Hello Ulrich,

I highly doubt that the problem is SquirrelMail here, for the following
reasons:

- SquirrelMail doesn't ship a .us dir (or any dot-dirs) in its package.
- The web server does not have write access to /usr/share, only root has
that, so it is impossible to write to that dir by just doing requests,
or even, by doing anything at all with squirrelmail.
- The requests you supply do not indicate placing that dir there at all,
they just show that it's being used.

Therefore, I think you are probably hacked in some other way, and
possibly then the malicious dir was installed under /usr/share. The logs
then show that someone used it.

In any case you should discontinue using those systems immediately and
do a full reinstall, since someone has had root-level access. If you
need more support for solving that problem, this bug report is not the
right place; you could try a mailinglist or hiring a consultant.

Good luck!

Thijs Kinkhorst

Hi!

Thxs for the report.
I had noticed it yesterday.

The thing is AFAIK that this file needs an asm/atomic.h include.
And I discovered that this include was provided by the linux kernel jeaders.

Now come the tricky part: pbuilder chroot allready has those headers
installed, so it is no use to detect this.

I will upload a correct package ASAP.

maybe after upgrade libglibmm and libgtkmm.

Yes, I know that we need a new upload after the sigc++ transition, but
this makes only sense after the libraries we depend on are rebuilt. So
you'll have to wait a little.

I could reproduce this on a sarge system with a kernel built by the

linux-image package was able to complete.

I'll try the -x approach should the issue repeat.

Bug#342222: grub: impossible to specify no altoptions at all

2005-12-06 Thread Marc Haber
Package: grub
Version: 0.97-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

I have a system that doesn't have any console, and is inaccessible in
a vendor's computing center (it's a rented server, see
http://www.alturo.de/). Hence, it doesn't make any sense to have any
altoptions in /boot/grub/menu.lst since there is nobody there to
select it, and nobody can operate the console since it doesn't exist.

However, when I delete all altoptions lines from the menu.lst file,
update-grub recreates the single user option which is especially
pointless since the machine does only have the network to interface
with the outside world.

It should be possible to have no altoptions specified at all without
update-grub trying to be smarter than oneself.

Greetings
Marc

Bug#342223: Makefile.cpu is missing in experimental 2.6.15-rc4 header-packages

2005-12-06 Thread Heikki Henriksen
Package: linux-headers-2.6.15-rc4
Version: 2.6.14+2.6.15-rc4-0experimental.1
Severity: important
Tags: experimental

The new header-packages for 2.6.15-rc4 are missing arch/i386/Makefile.cpu.

The symlink is there, at least, in linux-headers-2.6.15-rc4-k7, but
leads to a non-existant file.

This breaks the building of all external modules.

Copying the relevant file from linux-source-2.6.15 over to
linux-headers-2.6.15-rc4/arch/i386 is a temporary fix for users
affected.

Cheers,
 Heikki

Bug#342224: superfluous package?

2005-12-06 Thread Wouter Verhelst
Package: latex-ucs-uninames
Severity: minor

Hi,

(I haven't installed it yet, so it might be that I'm missing something,
but...)

The latex-ucs package shows in its description:

Install the package latex-ucs-uninames if you want to see the full
unicode character names in LaTeX error messages and can afford the
 space (about 320kB).

First, it's 376k, according to the Installed-Size header in the package
;-P

Second, I'm proposing you think about whether there's actually a benefit
in splitting off this package; splitting off data that's part of the
same source package to its own separate binary package is usually only
interesting in two specific cases:
* You have a *lot* of data (several megabytes) that your application
absolutely needs, but is architecture-independent; in that case, it's
interesting to split it off to a separate architecture-independent
package and have the application's package depend on that one, so that
  you don't overload the mirrors unnecessarily;
* You have a *lot* of optional data that might be interesting for some
users, but certainly not all. Because you don't want to overload your
users' hard disks with whole gobs of data that isn't likely of use to
them, you suggest or recommend the package and split it off.

The first clearly isn't applicable here, because the latex-ucs package
does work without those unicode names. That leaves the second.

Given the fact that the latex-ucs package is 2.2M large, however, and
the latex-ucs-names package is about a fifth of that, I don't think this
applies here, either. Add to that the fact that for a decent LaTeX
environment you really need to have at least some 30-40MB of disk space
(not counting system libraries), I don't think half a floppy disk would
matter in terms of disk space.

OTOH, It _will_ matter in terms of usability, since better error
messages are always an advantage; and you will get those better error
messages with that uninames package installed.

For that reason, I'm thinking it's going to be a better idea to merge
these two packages into one.

Bug#335990: patch for making tipa conforming to current TeX policy

2005-12-06 Thread Frank Küster
Norbert Preining [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

..|texlive-* only after the second part.

Well, and I have to apologize that I didn't take the time to look more
closely at the bugs you reported. While in principle I stand to what I
said, tipa has no dependency except on tex packages, and we need not
fear to be tied to some other transition.

Therefore I suggest that tipa can apply the complete patch you
submitted, with a proper versioned Depends on tetex. Then it will
automatically stay in unstable until tetex (or texlive) also migrates to
testing.

only useful if you use SCM_CHARS() and that has been so strongly
deprecated that the current development releases (1.7.x) of
Guile emit warnings when it is used. Rather than fight it, I have
removed all usage of either of these for all variations of AutoGen.
(Each version of Guile causes me to rewrite some portion of
AutoGen. 1.7 is the worst yet, causing me several days of work.)

Upshot: I now (finally) have a 1.7.x-ready version of AutoGen.
Problem: still seg faults on Alpha Linux 2.2. The issue: mmap

 Details:

When I mmap a file, I have to test for it being a multiple of the
page size. My license.test forces this for both the template
and for the license text. Both of these files get mmapped, so
I use this test to verify proper functioning of mmap, too.

My mapping descriptor structure shows this:

 (gdb) print *pMI
 $2 = {txt_data = 0x201c000, txt_size = 8192, txt_full_size = 16384,
   txt_fd = 7, txt_zero_fd = -1, txt_errno = 0, txt_prot = 0, txt_flags = 0,
   txt_alloc = 0}

 Immediately before this call:

 pNuls = mmap(
 (void*)(((char*)pMI-txt_data) + pMI-txt_size),
 pgsz,
 PROT_READ|PROT_WRITE,
 MAP_ANONYMOUS|MAP_FIXED|MAP_SHARED, 0, 0 );

 The address passed is:

 (gdb) print 0x201c000+8192
 $5 = 0x201e000

According to my reading of the doc for mmap, this should work. It does
work on other platforms. It also seg faults instead of returning ((void*)-1).
 Now, what? :-(

If you don't want to require that users use a kernel that doesn't
misbehave like this, shouldn't you add an autoconf test that checks
for this behavior and falls back to some other method?

Bug#342230: debsums: doesn't generate missing md5sums for arch all packages anymore

2005-12-06 Thread Mario 'BitKoenig' Holbe
Package: debsums
Version: 2.0.20

Hello,

since a little while debsums seems to no longer generate missing md5sums
for packages being architecture `all' when called automagically via apt.
This could most likely be correlated to the resolution of #318377.

Please consider both, the systems architecture and `all' as possible
candidates for checksum generation. I don't know which one overrides
which else in case of collisions, i.e. if both .debs exist _arch.deb and
_all.deb. Probably the Debian policy says something about that.

Thanks for your work regards

Bug#341395: seperate api docs and configuration samples

2005-12-06 Thread Caio Begotti
On Monday 05 December 2005 21:43, Mark Purcell wrote:
I don't think we need another package..

Ok, seems to make sense putting the examples in the asterisk package even so.

leave the asterisk-doc package to contain all the API details. We just
switched off building for unstable as it was taking a long time between
 builds..

Could you take a look at this patch, then?
It gets applied on the SVN trunk of the asterisk package:
http://caio.ueberalles.net/asterisk/1.2.0/caio_splitdocs.diff

Btw, the build time here is almost four minutes with the API compilling
enable. It's not that bad, I guess. And the common documentation files goes
on both packages, actually: asterisk and asterisk-doc.

Some people may find them very useful but *do not* want the whole thing to be
installed (the big API). The people interested on the API may as well be
interested on reading the common docs.

 Mark

Thanks!

PS: I thought about to send found to the control bot, but I think that you
guys might want to check it first, if it handles things as you want.

Bug#342233: exim4-config: mailname_in_oh not documented in man page

2005-12-06 Thread Marc Haber
Package: exim4-config
Version: 4.60-1
Severity: minor

As far as I can see, the mailname_in_oh option in
/etc/update-exim4.conf.conf is a flag that is set by
exim4-config.config to show that the contents of /etc/mailname has
already been added to other_hostnames to avoid it from being added
again after the local administrator decided to remove it.

This should be documented in the ue4.conf man page since people keep
asking for the meaning of that setting.

Greetings
Marc

Bug#292529: Nested includes warning shouldn't appear under Perl = 5.6

2005-12-06 Thread Ernesto Baschny [cron IT]
The debian package includes a /etc/awstats/awstats.conf which has:

Include /etc/awstats/awstats.conf.local

So if I have a awstats.domain.conf which includes
/etc/awstats/awstats.conf (which is a common practice), I will have
nested includes (my conf includes awstats.conf, which includes
awstats.conf.local).

As far as I can see in /usr/lib/cgi-bin/awstats.pl (lines 1154-1157),
this always triggers the warning and not processing the include-file
in awstats, regardless of perl-versions (which are not even being
checked). I am not sure why this recursion wouldn't work on Perl 5.6.
This has to be fixed upstream too. A bug has been filed upstream, which
has a potential solution in one of the comments: Refer to
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detailaid=1145729group_id=13764atid=113764,
which is still open.

As a temporary fix for those who have this problem: Uncomment the
include of the .local file in awstats.conf.

Bug#333839: KDE has passed the latest C++ transition, now would be a really good time to upload a new lyx

2005-12-06 Thread Peder Chr. Nørgaard
I realize that the subject of this bug report says ia64; but it really hits
all architectures. I appreciate that all those C++ transitions are making
life hard on maintainers - but today kmail came out and that allowed me to do
a major dist-upgrade to my sid.

The only conflict left was lyx, because of the dependency on libaiksaurus,
which is upgraded to the latest C++ version, and is used by other packages.
I took the source from lyx 1.3.6-1 and recompiled it - the only change was in
the changelog to get a new version. And it installed nicely.

So now would be a good time to do an upload.

Thanks for the good work.

not, let me know and I will *kill* my samba again :)

Unfortunately, the backtraces made with samba-dbg installed point to a stack
corruption problem (as did the ones without samba-dbg installed, but at
least there was some hope before). This makes it impossible to debug your
problem from those stack traces.

There are a couple approaches we can try from here. First, you should have
backtraces in your samba log files which correspond to these failures, but
may not be identical to them -- they *may* give more information that's
actually helpful for debugging. Second, is this crash something that you're
able to reproduce on demand? If so, is there any chance that you can tell
us how to reproduce it on our end?

Third (and definitely last), if you're running on i386 or amd64, you may be
able to get more information about the crash if you can run samba under
valgrind.

Thanks,

2005-12-06 Thread Tom Laermans
Package: coreutils
Version: 5.93-5
Severity: minor

SIZE may have a multiplier suffix: b for 512, k for 1K, m for 1 Meg.

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ split foo -b 50M
split: 50M: invalid number of bytes
Try `split --help' for more information.

m is milli, M is mega - if ifconfig is fixed to report kiB etc, I think
split should be fixed too, at least it should accept the correct form and
probably change the help text (I imagine milli will be kept for backwards
compatibility ofcourse).

Bug#242133: thinkpad-source: Build modules without requiring root

2005-12-06 Thread Tobias Gruetzmacher
Package: thinkpad-source
Version: 5.8-4
Followup-For: Bug #242133

Why is this report marked as wontfix? I think it is a good idea to
allow building modules without requiring to be root. All other modules
I tried to build with module-assistant (nvidia, fuse, loop-aes) don't
require the user to be root or write anything outside the home
directory of the user.

Please make the thinkpad modules buildable without requireing elevated
rights.

Hi!

The SIGUSR hacks I sent in the previous GNU/kFreeBSD patch are no longer needed,
so here's an updated patch without them.

Please use this one instead.

Bug#342240: please remove version dependencies

2005-12-06 Thread Steffen Joeris
Package: superkaramba
Severity: wishlist

Hi
I am backporting superkaramba and I think it is a little bit
difficult with the version dependencies. I know that you have
done it because of a transition, but now i think you can delete them.
This will make backporting easier and now I see no sense
in them, or am i wrong?

(I mean the versionnumbers at kdebase-dev and dpkg-dev)

Greetings
Steffen

Colin, please let me know if you need more information here.

I asked you to file this as an Ubuntu bug; sorry I didn't get round to
giving you the URL (http://bugzilla.ubuntu.com/). I suspect that not all
of these issues will necessarily apply to Debian, and in general we
don't encourage Ubuntu users to file Debian bugs unless they've actually
reproduced the problem on Debian.

However, I'll reassign to partman-lvm anyway for the time being ...

Bug#342241: not all upstream authors listed in copyright file / wrong date

2005-12-06 Thread Mario Iseli
Package: acpitool
Version: 0.4.0-1
Severity: minor

In AUTHORS is a list of all involved developers of acpitool, at the
moment there are 7 persons. And there are sourcefiles with copyrights
(c), an example:

/* asus.cpp
*/
/* Support for ASUS ACPI extensions
*/
/*
*/
/* Copyright (C) 2005 Nicolas Weyland [EMAIL PROTECTED]
*/
/*
*/

All this persons have also to be listed in debian/copyright! (at the
moment there is only the main developer).

There is a second problem:
in the upstream changelog are dates of the year 2004, in
debian/copyright is only written 2005, should be replaced with
2004-2005.

Bug#342095: openafs-{db,file}server: Depends on to much crud

2005-12-06 Thread Turbo Fredriksson
Russ == Russ Allbery [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:

Russ Turbo Fredriksson [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:
 Package: openafs-dbserver Version: 1.4.0-2

I wanted a DB server, not a client!

Russ How were you planning on starting, stopping, and managing
Russ the server? Magic? :)

From the client (where I DO have bos/vos). Can't it be started/stopped
without it (i.e., can it be (easily) made to work without bos)?

If not, can bos/vos (or only bos) be put in a -common or
'openafs-server-clients' package? Or included in the openafs-{db,file}server
package(s) (with overrides or/and what not)...

I know it complicates things, but I just can't install openafs-client
on my server(s). The're SPARC64 (with kernel 2.6), and i never been able
to compile the module for that arch/kernel...

Russ You don't need to install the kernel module provided that
Russ you always use the -localauth flag, and indeed the kernel
Russ module isn't required (only recommended).

Not quite so:

- s n i p -
pumba.pts/9]$ dpkg -I openafs-client_1.4.0-2_sparc.deb | grep -i depends
 Depends: libc6 (= 2.2.4-4), libncurses5 (= 5.2.20020112a-1), debconf (=
0.5), sysvinit (= 2.80-1), openafs-modules-source (= 1.2.9) | openafs-modules2
- s n i p -

And since openafs-dbserver depends on openafs-fileserver, which in turn
depends on openafs-clients, there's no way I can install ONLY openafs-dbserver
(OR only the openafs-fileserver OR openafs-{db,file}server combined) on my
machine
(SPARC64, where I can't/doesn't want to make the kernel module) WITHOUT getting
openafs-client as well...

Russ The init script for the file server and db server depends on having
Russ bos available

I found that out to after some trial-and-error :) I just changed my localy made
package to not have the dependencies explained, and just took 'bos' from another
machine...

Didn't work any way (seems 1.3 and 1.4 can't work together in the same
cell!?).

Bug#342243: elinks: fails to create ipc socket on openafs

2005-12-06 Thread Christian Engwer
Package: elinks
Version: 0.10.4-7
Severity: normal

upon startup elinks tries to create a socket
$HOME/.elinks/socket. This socket is used for inter process
communication between different elinks instances.

If your home directory is an openafs volumn elinks fails to create
this socket, because openafs doesn't allow the creation of
sockets. Without this socket elinks is not able to handle bookmarks
history etc.

This problem can be avoided by creating the socket in an other
directory (i.e. /tmp ;-)).
