Bug#342202: question about sound recording

Bug#211217: most: Fixed UTF-8 output
Hi John, mako, El lun, 05-12-2005 a las 11:52 -0500, John E. Davis escribió: On Mon, 5 Dec 2005 10:39:46 -0500, Benj. Mako Hill [EMAIL PROTECTED] said: UTF-8 enabled Most, with working (and enabled by default during build) UTF-8 compliant RegExp searches. Wonderful! I've test out the patch and it works great on my system. I've applied it in whole. While it is a good start for UTF-8, it will require more work to integrate. For example, the patch to buffer.c:forward_columns does not appear to properly handle tab characters, embedded backspaces, etc. Such backspaces are used by manpages to simulate an overstrike, underline, etc, e.g., The attached patch fixes this case, plus other minor glitches with multi-byte characters. There is only one important glitch that I haven't been able to fix, and seems like a bug in Slang or Gnome-Terminal. The attached file most-test-long is displayed as expected, but some of the characters in most-test-long-fmt wrap to the second line of the buffer. This seems to be an artifact of formatting. As you'll see if you scroll the buffer to the right, the few bold and underlined characters are sometimes displayed with different spacing around them than in the plain version of the document. I've verified with the code below that most_analyse_line extracts at most 80 columns (for my terminal) worth of text. However, the fact that the terminal adds extra spacing when formatting is applied, causes the output to wrap. len = most_analyse_line(beg, end, line, attr); p = line; for (i = 0; i strlen(attr); i++) { SLwchar_Type wc; p = SLutf8_decode(p, line + line_len, wc, NULL); if (p) wc_len += SLwchar_wcwidth(wc); } assert(wc_len = SLtt_Screen_Cols); Cheers, -- Javier Kohen [EMAIL PROTECTED] ICQ: blashyrkh #2361802 Jabber: [EMAIL PROTECTED] aáŴÓХथሰਗ਼בּホビХथሰਗ਼בּホビ aáŴÓХथሰਗ਼בּホビХथሰਗ਼בּホビ aáŴÓХथሰਗ਼בּホビХथሰਗ਼בּホビ aáŴÓХथሰਗ਼בּホビХथሰਗ਼בּホビ aáŴÓХथሰਗ਼בּホビХथሰਗ਼בּホビ aáŴÓХथሰਗ਼בּホビХथሰਗ਼בּホビ aáホホビ_ビ_Хथሰਗ਼בּホビ aáŴÓХथሰਗ਼בּホビХथሰਗ਼בּホビ aáŴÓХथሰਗ਼בּホビХथሰਗ਼בּホビ aáŴÓХथሰਗ਼בּホビХथሰਗ਼בּホビ aáŴÓХथሰਗ਼בּホビХथሰਗ਼בּホビ aáŴÓХथሰਗ਼בּホビХथሰਗ਼בּホビ Sólo en most-4.10.2: config.log Sólo en most-4.10.2: config.status diff -ur most-4.10.2-2.debian-orig/debian/changelog most-4.10.2/debian/changelog --- most-4.10.2-2.debian-orig/debian/changelog 2005-12-05 21:51:17.0 -0300 +++ most-4.10.2/debian/changelog 2005-12-06 04:57:47.0 -0300 @@ -1,3 +1,10 @@ +most (4.10.2-2.0.1) unstable; urgency=low + + * Fixed minor glitches when displaying multi-byte characters. + * Fixed wrapped mode when using formatted output. + + -- Javier Kohen [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue, 6 Dec 2005 04:57:01 -0300 + most (4.10.2-2) unstable; urgency=low * Patch from Javier Kohen to rework (and fix) RegExp searches, so they now Sólo en most-4.10.2: Makefile diff -ur most-4.10.2-2.debian-orig/src/buffer.c most-4.10.2/src/buffer.c --- most-4.10.2-2.debian-orig/src/buffer.c 2005-12-05 21:51:17.0 -0300 +++ most-4.10.2/src/buffer.c 2005-12-06 04:48:06.0 -0300 @@ -62,11 +62,13 @@ if (*pos == '\n') { pos--; /* Skip back the new-line. */ - while ((pos Most_Beg) - (*pos != '\n')) - pos = SLutf8_bskip_char(Most_Beg, pos); + /* This block is UTF-8 safe, because it only scans the + buffer for a new-line, and doesn't count + characters. */ + while ((pos Most_Beg) (*pos != '\n')) + pos--; - if (*pos != '\n') return pos; + if (*pos != '\n') return Most_Beg; /* from here on *pos == '\n' */ if (pos + 1 != cpos) return pos + 1; @@ -77,9 +79,9 @@ if (*pos != '\n') { - while ((pos Most_Beg) - (*pos != '\n')) - pos = SLutf8_bskip_char(Most_Beg, pos); + /* This block is UTF-8 safe. Thanks a lot, Jonathan Martin Pitt a écrit : Hi Jonathan! Jonathan Ballet [2005-12-05 9:46 +0100]: Sorry for late reply. Here is the output of 'id postgresql' : [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ id postgres uid=12966(postgres) gid=0(root) groupes=0(root) [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ I hope it can help ... It indeed does. It should actually look like uid=116(postgres) gid=116(postgres) Gruppen=116(postgres) i. e. there are several things wrong about your user: * The user ID should be smaller than 1000 to make postgres a system user. * postgres should have its own system group instead of being in group 'root'. This is the cause for your failure. Since I do not believe that adduser --system created this user, I strongly suspect that it existed before installing postgresql-common already. It does not look like a regular user either, though - they must not be in group 'root'. Thus, a quickfix for you would be to do deluser postgres and reinstall postgresql-common and postgresql-7.4. However, please make double sure that you don't need that user for anything else. I can add a check to the postgresql-common package that will make the installation fail with a meaningful message if an invalid postgres user already exists. However, there is not much more I could do about that. Thanks, Martin

Bug#341777: Support Mysql for WebApps deployed to Tomcat
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Kalle Kivimaa wrote: Andreas Schildbach [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: I'm afraid I don't know about the packaging policy. I can only say that the webapp can't know what database the server-admin or deployer is going to use, especially since in the Realm case he's got the option of an in-memory or file-based realm, requiring no database at all. If you If a webapp wants to use a DB, it is up to the maintainer of that webapp package to decide which DB's s/he is going to support. I'd guess that I would simply link all those JDBC libraries which are in main (actually, I probably need to do this when JSPWiki 2.4 comes out), but some other maintainers might take a different approach. But, still, this is not a Tomcat5 problem. I'm not sure it's the responsability of JSPWiki to add symlinks in the tomcat5 directory tree. Maybe we can add a little script in tomcat5 to let an administrator add a symlink if the package is installed, but what does happen if the package is removed (libmysql-java or libpg-java or else)? The idea of adding three or four one line package will be rejected by ftp-masters as Kalle already said. Maybe an explanation in the README file with a link to http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-5.0-doc/jndi-datasource-examples-howto.html can help. Also, note that the configuration of tomcat5 should be done by an administrator, not a usual user. An administrator should know about the symlink to common/libs and has the right to do that. Bug#335990: patch for making tipa conforming to current TeX policy
Hi Rafael and Frank! On Mon, 05 Dez 2005, Frank Küster wrote: . new location of map file this is a two step process to move the map file from /etc/texmf/map/.. FIRST to /etc/texmf/fonts/map/dvips, and after tetex has moved all the maps to /usr/share/texmf/fonts/map (and thus /u/s/t/fonts/map is not a link to /etc/texmf/map anymore), a SECOND move to /u/s/t/f/m Please check wether the code in preinst is actually what you want!!! This will have the effect that the package does no longer work together with tetex-2.0.2 which is still in testing, and requires the dependency on tetex-* to be versioned accordingly. Therefore this part should not be done until tetex-3.0 is in testing - there is a backward compatibitity hack that makes tetex-3.0 mostly working with such packages, and will only be dropped after it has been in testing long enough that everybody has had time to upload fixed packages. Completely right. texlive does not have such a hack, therefore you can depend on ..|texlive-* only after the second part. True. I forgot on this. No problem with me. I have the texlive packages currently only recommending the respective tipa package, but I will remove this recommend as these packages do *not* work with texlive (texlive does *not* search for /etc/texmf/maps/... - maybe I add a hack ...). Hi there, I'm tagging this bug as security and upping the severity. Justification: A small script can be used to affect the availability of the parent xserver if xloadimage is installed. If the resource limits of the xserver are high enough, there is potential for the process table to become saturated, leading to a loss of availability of the machine that xloadimage is installed on. Therefore, I think you are probably hacked in some other way, and possibly then the malicious dir was installed under /usr/share. The logs then show that someone used it. In any case you should discontinue using those systems immediately and do a full reinstall, since someone has had root-level access. If you need more support for solving that problem, this bug report is not the right place; you could try a mailinglist or hiring a consultant. Good luck! Hi! Thxs for the report. I had noticed it yesterday. The thing is AFAIK that this file needs an asm/atomic.h include. And I discovered that this include was provided by the linux kernel jeaders. Now come the tricky part: pbuilder chroot allready has those headers installed, so it is no use to detect this. I will upload a correct package ASAP. Bug#342222: grub: impossible to specify no altoptions at all
Package: grub Version: 0.97-1 Severity: wishlist Hi, I have a system that doesn't have any console, and is inaccessible in a vendor's computing center (it's a rented server, see http://www.alturo.de/). Hence, it doesn't make any sense to have any altoptions in /boot/grub/menu.lst since there is nobody there to select it, and nobody can operate the console since it doesn't exist. However, when I delete all altoptions lines from the menu.lst file, update-grub recreates the single user option which is especially pointless since the machine does only have the network to interface with the outside world. It should be possible to have no altoptions specified at all without update-grub trying to be smarter than oneself. Bug#342224: superfluous package?
Package: latex-ucs-uninames Severity: minor Hi, (I haven't installed it yet, so it might be that I'm missing something, but...) The latex-ucs package shows in its description: Install the package latex-ucs-uninames if you want to see the full unicode character names in LaTeX error messages and can afford the space (about 320kB). First, it's 376k, according to the Installed-Size header in the package ;-P Second, I'm proposing you think about whether there's actually a benefit in splitting off this package; splitting off data that's part of the same source package to its own separate binary package is usually only interesting in two specific cases: * You have a *lot* of data (several megabytes) that your application absolutely needs, but is architecture-independent; in that case, it's interesting to split it off to a separate architecture-independent package and have the application's package depend on that one, so that you don't overload the mirrors unnecessarily; * You have a *lot* of optional data that might be interesting for some users, but certainly not all. Because you don't want to overload your users' hard disks with whole gobs of data that isn't likely of use to them, you suggest or recommend the package and split it off. The first clearly isn't applicable here, because the latex-ucs package does work without those unicode names. That leaves the second. Given the fact that the latex-ucs package is 2.2M large, however, and the latex-ucs-names package is about a fifth of that, I don't think this applies here, either. Add to that the fact that for a decent LaTeX environment you really need to have at least some 30-40MB of disk space (not counting system libraries), I don't think half a floppy disk would matter in terms of disk space. OTOH, It _will_ matter in terms of usability, since better error messages are always an advantage; and you will get those better error messages with that uninames package installed. For that reason, I'm thinking it's going to be a better idea to merge these two packages into one. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing') Architecture: powerpc (ppc) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.14.2 Locale: [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] (charmap=UTF-8) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#335990: patch for making tipa conforming to current TeX policy

Sorry Frank again that I forgot about the testing transition. Well, and I have to apologize that I didn't take the time to look more closely at the bugs you reported. While in principle I stand to what I said, tipa has no dependency except on tex packages, and we need not fear to be tied to some other transition. Therefore I suggest that tipa can apply the complete patch you submitted, with a proper versioned Depends on tetex. Bug#340851: 5.7.3 failure
On Mon, Dec 05, 2005 at 01:34:43PM -0800, Bruce Korb wrote: On Thursday 01 December 2005 08:11 am, Bruce Korb wrote: The call to scm_makstr() is faulting (every time for me): Hi all, I have now been able to recreate the failure on this call fairly often, but I have not found a cause. Nevertheless, this call is only useful if you use SCM_CHARS() and that has been so strongly deprecated that the current development releases (1.7.x) of Guile emit warnings when it is used. Rather than fight it, I have removed all usage of either of these for all variations of AutoGen. (Each version of Guile causes me to rewrite some portion of AutoGen. 1.7 is the worst yet, causing me several days of work.) Upshot: I now (finally) have a 1.7.x-ready version of AutoGen. Problem: still seg faults on Alpha Linux 2.2. The issue: mmap Details: When I mmap a file, I have to test for it being a multiple of the page size. My license.test forces this for both the template and for the license text. Both of these files get mmapped, so I use this test to verify proper functioning of mmap, too. My mapping descriptor structure shows this: (gdb) print *pMI $2 = {txt_data = 0x201c000, txt_size = 8192, txt_full_size = 16384, txt_fd = 7, txt_zero_fd = -1, txt_errno = 0, txt_prot = 0, txt_flags = 0, txt_alloc = 0} Immediately before this call: pNuls = mmap( (void*)(((char*)pMI-txt_data) + pMI-txt_size), pgsz, PROT_READ|PROT_WRITE, MAP_ANONYMOUS|MAP_FIXED|MAP_SHARED, 0, 0 ); The address passed is: (gdb) print 0x201c000+8192 $5 = 0x201e000 According to my reading of the doc for mmap, this should work. It does work on other platforms. It also seg faults instead of returning ((void*)-1). Now, what? :-( If you don't want to require that users use a kernel that doesn't misbehave like this, shouldn't you add an autoconf test that checks for this behavior and falls back to some other method? -- Matt signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Package: debsums Version: 2.0.20 Hello, since a little while debsums seems to no longer generate missing md5sums for packages being architecture `all' when called automagically via apt. This could most likely be correlated to the resolution of #318377. Please consider both, the systems architecture and `all' as possible candidates for checksum generation. I don't know which one overrides which else in case of collisions, i.e. if both .debs exist _arch.deb and _all.deb. Probably the Debian policy says something about that. Bug#341395: seperate api docs and configuration samples

Ok, seems to make sense putting the examples in the asterisk package even so. leave the asterisk-doc package to contain all the API details. We just switched off building for unstable as it was taking a long time between builds.. Could you take a look at this patch, then? It gets applied on the SVN trunk of the asterisk package: http://caio.ueberalles.net/asterisk/1.2.0/caio_splitdocs.diff Btw, the build time here is almost four minutes with the API compilling enable. It's not that bad, I guess. And the common documentation files goes on both packages, actually: asterisk and asterisk-doc. Some people may find them very useful but *do not* want the whole thing to be installed (the big API). The people interested on the API may as well be interested on reading the common docs. Bug#292529: Nested includes warning shouldn't appear under Perl = 5.6
The debian package includes a /etc/awstats/awstats.conf which has: Include /etc/awstats/awstats.conf.local So if I have a awstats.domain.conf which includes /etc/awstats/awstats.conf (which is a common practice), I will have nested includes (my conf includes awstats.conf, which includes awstats.conf.local). As far as I can see in /usr/lib/cgi-bin/awstats.pl (lines 1154-1157), this always triggers the warning and not processing the include-file in awstats, regardless of perl-versions (which are not even being checked). I am not sure why this recursion wouldn't work on Perl 5.6. This has to be fixed upstream too. A bug has been filed upstream, which has a potential solution in one of the comments: Refer to http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detailaid=1145729group_id=13764atid=113764, which is still open. Bug#333839: KDE has passed the latest C++ transition, now would be a really good time to upload a new lyx
I realize that the subject of this bug report says ia64; but it really hits all architectures. I appreciate that all those C++ transitions are making life hard on maintainers - but today kmail came out and that allowed me to do a major dist-upgrade to my sid. The only conflict left was lyx, because of the dependency on libaiksaurus, which is upgraded to the latest C++ version, and is used by other packages. I took the source from lyx 1.3.6-1 and recompiled it - the only change was in the changelog to get a new version. And it installed nicely. So now would be a good time to do an upload. I think one or two of them is without samba-dbg but there are also a couple with it. I hope that you guys can use it. if not, let me know and I will *kill* my samba again :) Unfortunately, the backtraces made with samba-dbg installed point to a stack corruption problem (as did the ones without samba-dbg installed, but at least there was some hope before). This makes it impossible to debug your problem from those stack traces. There are a couple approaches we can try from here. First, you should have backtraces in your samba log files which correspond to these failures, but may not be identical to them -- they *may* give more information that's actually helpful for debugging. Second, is this crash something that you're able to reproduce on demand? If so, is there any chance that you can tell us how to reproduce it on our end? Third (and definitely last), if you're running on i386 or amd64, you may be able to get more information about the crash if you can run samba under valgrind. Thank you. Press ENTER to continue If you report an error when running one of the TeX-related binaries (latex, pdftex, metafont,...), or if the bug is related to bad or wrong output, please include a MINIMAL example input file that produces the error in your report. Don't forget to also include minimal examples of other files that are needed, e.g. bibtex databases. Often it also helps to include the logfile. Please, never send included pictures! If your example file isn't short or produces more than one page of output (except when multiple pages are needed to show the problem), you can probably minimize it further.
