Bug#357723: webcalendar: Debconf templates do not follow Developer's Reference recommendations

2006-03-19 Thread Christian Perrier
Package: webcalendar
Version: N/A
Severity: minor

The debconf templates for this package do not follow the
recommendations given in the Developers Reference, section 6.5
(Configuration management with debconf).

Even though not mandatory, this part gives general advices about the
Right Way to write debconf templates to achieve a general consistency
in Debian about the way to prompt users. Please make your best
following these advices.

If you follow these suggestions, please consider later using the
podebconf-report-po utility from the po-debconf package, to notify
translators of the induced changes. Then leave them a few days to
update their translations (1 week is considered good practice so that
translation teams can apply their usual QA policies).

This bug report template is mostly generic so I can't point out
exactly which part of your debconf templates I have considered not
following these recommendations. I recommend your first read the
mentioned part of the DR, make the changes you feell needed, then come
back to me with the new templates file.

Most often encountered errors:

-using interrogative form for string/select/multiselect templates. For
instance: Which web server should be reconfigured? instead of Web
 server to reconfigure:

-making specific reference to some debconf interfaces widgets such as
using If you choose 'No' in boolean templates

-using the first person (I will do this)

-too long extended description (should idealistically fit in one
screen with the dialog interface in a 80x25 terminal)

-extended description repeating the short description

-extended description using an interrogative sentence in a boolean
template. Only the short description should issue a question in such
 templates.

-repeat the short description i nthe long description

-non informative enough template. Think about users who install
your package among dozens of others

-too long template (fitting on a 80x25 screen is recommended)

etc...

Please get in touch with me in case you need more details about why I
think your templates file need some rewrite. If you do so, please
attach the debian/templates of debian/package.templates file so that
I can propose you a rewrite.

Bug#352479: ifplugd will not run after latest upgrade on testing

This looks suspiciously like the first argument to the init script was
usb0. If your interface is usb0, make sure you are using:

   sh -x /etc/init.d/ifplugd start usb0

Whoops. Tried. Works. Whoops.

Now, if /etc/init.d/ifplugd start interface *does* work, then run ...

ACTION=add INTERFACE=interface sh -x /etc/hotplug.d/net/ifplugd.hotplug

... which again will produce lots of output which you should paste/attach
   in reply to this mail.

Skipped this part, for reasons outlined above.

Let's go ahead and try it. If your interface is usb0, make sure ifplugd
 is not running and invoke:

   ACTION=add INTERFACE=usb0 sh -x /etc/hotplug.d/net/ifplugd.hotplug

Tried.

ifplugd will now run, and will now automatically bring up usb0.
However, after closing the interface it will not re-start it.

The relevant part of ifconfig will then look like this:

Bug#357704: Floppy install does not configure boot dir and grub correctly

2006-03-19 Thread Christian Perrier
(second try as the stupid RBL and so-called ant-spam system used by

Quoting Anthony Merhi ([EMAIL PROTECTED]):

 - If you don't mind, please don't put my e-mail address on the web.
 -

The Debian BTS has a web interface. So I'm afraid that reporting this
bug already exposes your mail address.

I'm alays puzzled by people wanting to hide their mail address. Do you
really want to communicate? :-)

I booted boot.img in expert mode, mounted root.img, loaded
net-drivers.img for the SiS900, configured static IP, then downloaded
the rest from a mirror without a problem.

I chose Standard System and Desktop/Workstation for software.

However, while the app software was installed to the correct partition
(hda4), the OS was not installed, and grub did not add hda4 as a menu
 choice.

You don't explain us what you exactly did at the GRUB installation
step. Did you leave the default choices or did you something weird
like asking to install GRUB on hda4?

If you did the latter, then what you see is expectedthe
grub-installer did not touch the GRUB install on the MBR, which is
still the one you see booting. This GRUB points to /dev/hda3 as
root...which hasn't been touched by the installer and of course does
not offer hda4 as an option.

If you leave the *default* GRUB option to install on /dev/hda (ie the
MBR), then a new GRUB will be installed on the MBR and it will use
/dev/hda4 as rootand will offer the 3 choices, I guess.

No, he means that the openSUSE kdelibs package has a patch which fixes
this dcop problem.
You can find the source rpms at [1], so if you want to take a look at
it, grab the kdelibs source rpm and extract it.
wget [2], rpm2cpio kdelibs3-3.5.1-26.src.rpm | cpio -i
It contains a bunch of patches. You simply have to find the right one, I
don't know which one it is.

Cheer,

Bug#357727: linda: Linked library dependency check false positive? (Or details appreciated.)

2006-03-19 Thread Roland Stigge

Hi,

with the new version of linda (and gtick), I get:

This package contains a binary that links against a library that is
not in the Depends line. This may also be a bug in the library which
does not have a shlibs file.

All libraries seem to be pulled in by the dependencies. New linda
reports the same for older versions of gtick, so uploading anyway.

Bug#355634: maintainers now work

2006-03-19 Thread Enrico Zini
Hell,

Debtags maintainer now works, as of debtags 1.5.4.

I'd like to close this bug, but I can't because there's another bug
inside. Big shame on Justin Prizby, who's one of the biggest bug
reporters but still hasn't learnt to put one issue per report.

So, 'debtags maintainers' now works, and I'm retitling this bug to
address the other issue, which is quite minor, so I'm decreasing
severity as well.

Ciao,

Enrico

2006-03-19 Thread Enrico Zini
Hello Marc,

shortly after you reported the bug I asked for volunteers to please do
it for me. One person volunteered but never did the job. I pinged him,
job still didn't get done, whatever.

In the meantime, quite some time has passed. Is this still needed? If
yes, I'll look into it again. If not, I'll close the bug.

Bug#342864: AM_PATH_CHECK macro fails to build with -Werror

I haven't tried this, but I just wanted to say: I think a lot of the
AM_PATH_CHECK macro can be cleaned up or eliminated. Probably the other
things in /usr/share/aclocal can help with that, or a best practice
question could be sent to the autoconf list---there might also be hints
in the autoconf manual about what to do. Clearly not every library
needs such a macro, given how few macros actually are in
 /usr/share/aclocal/.
...

Sure but lets not let the perfect be the enemy of the good:

There are two patches now that will correct AM_PATH_CHECK with -Werror
in CFLAGS. Both are improvements, and I'm completely happy with either
being applied which will fix the bug. Additionally, neither make
refactoring or replacing AM_PATH_CHECK later harder - they do not change
its structure or introduce additional complexity.

Not replacing deleted config file /etc/phpmyadmin/htaccess

Remember that in order to activate the new configuration apache2 has to be

 /etc/init.d/apache2 restart

Do you want me to restart apache2 now?

I don't think it should ask this question in this case.

Hi

Thanks for your bugreport. I had a short look into it.
And I am currently discussing it with upstream.
A problem is that gpsim is IMHO not installable.
I raised the severity of the bugreport there in order to make sure that it
will hopefully fixed quite soon.

Anyway I think I want to wait until the current version makes it into testing.
But you are completely right, this feature might be really requested, thanks
for pointing me to that.

Bug#357736: /usr/X11R6/bin/startx: startx needs some way to delete stale $xserverauthfile files

2006-03-19 Thread Nyk Tarr
Package: xbase-clients
Version: 6.9.0.dfsg.1-4
Severity: normal
File: /usr/X11R6/bin/startx

I noticed I had a $HOME littered with .serverauth. files, after a bit of
prodding, I found that if startx is cut short by eg a shutdown, it doesn't get
as far as deleting the $xserverauthfile file.

There doesn't seem to be anything in place to delete these orphaned files, so
they perhaps need a similar mechanism to $removelist to tidy them up at next
restart.

Or, perhaps it'd be a better idea to move these into the upcoming libbsd
package, given that we need these functions for Essential packages, and libedit
is marked as optional.

Alternatively, libedit could be made Priority: required so that Essential
packages can depend on it.

What do you think?

Yes, you are right - I was waiting for this bug report ;-). Especially
as many of the pages (/usr/share/doc/dar/html) appear to be
documentation on using the dar library API.

Also the man pages should have been translated to HTML format for
/usr/share/doc/dar/man (?), but for some reason this didn't seem to be
working. This isn't strictly required, but it would be nice to have
working.

In my defence, it was a hot day, and my laptop computer was getting
very hot on my lap, so I wanted to ditch it ASAP.

refactoring or replacing AM_PATH_CHECK later harder - they do not change
its structure or introduce additional complexity.

Exactly. Please think of backward-compatibility for people using
 AM_PATH_CHECK in their configure.ac.

The -version mentionned previously doesn't help in the task of
detecting whether libcheck is available in the build environment.

What you could *add* to the library is a pkg-config (.pc) file, which
would permit using pkg-config's macros to check for the availability
and the version of libcheck (pkg-config now supports the static /
dynamic linking flags distinction). That should be in addition to the
macro (which should simply be deprecated).

Bug#357742: please allow for specifying more than one terminal type

2006-03-19 Thread Wouter Verhelst
Package: ncurses
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

I'm currently using rxvt-unicode as my primary x-terminal-emulator, as
it has exactly those features I need, and nothing more. I love it,
except for one thing... it's rather new(ish), and many hosts do not have
a termcap entry for it yet. As a result, ncurses fails to initialize in
most cases--and those programs that do work do so by assuming I have
vt100 or something, which is horrible.

It'd be nice if I could say something along the lines of I'm really
working from rxvt-unicode; but if you don't know that, then you can use
a generic xterm termcap entry, which for all practical matters is really
the same thing. Something like

TERM=rxvt-unicode:xterm

would be great. I didn't see whether something like that is available by
looking at the docs that I found, but perhaps I missed it; in that case,
a pointer would be nice ;-)

Yeah, I realized this slight cosmetic issue when Raphael changed the

I don't see your point right now. The PTS page is only created once the
package is in unstable. At that point, you can't have the removed page.

So how did it happen ?

Bug#350739: cdrtools: GPL violation - makefiles distributed under non-GPL-compatible license??

2006-03-19 Thread Eduard Bloch
#include hallo.h
* Joerg Schilling [Sat, Mar 18 2006, 10:10:55PM]:

You did write (easy to proof as) false claims many times in the past.
Just remember the case where you did call Sun Studio C rubbish just
   because
it flags bad code that GCC let's pass.

He? I cannot remember writting this, and I would not use the word
  rubbish.

 Let me quote you:

Das behauptest du EINFACH SO, weil dein Compiler ein Paar irrevelevante
   Meldungen ausgespuckt hast? Amen.

Looks similar to what I had in mind.

Jeez, you have ways of finding similarities. I would hardly translate
that as rubbish especially because of the context - it has been on the
same polemic levels as your claims about gcc because of beeing less
pervasive than Sun's compiler. Even then, is that all of my false
claims that you can find? Maybe you better your own ways of checking
the correctness of a program? I still wonder how you can declare hidding
of filename truncation okay, for example.

Or maybe you would like to stop with digging the old graves and return
to the current issue?

Have a look at http://www.us.debian.org/social_contract and try to
   understand
what section 9. License Must Not Contaminate Other Software means:

The license must not place restrictions on other software that is
distributed along with the licensed software. For example, the
   license
must not insist that all other programs distributed on the same
   medium
   must be free software.

In our case, the medium is the tar archive that is used to publish
   cdrtools.

Hear, hear. And what does the file COPYING with the GPL license text
do there, in the main directory of your medium? Is it not supposed to
cover the whole thing, as in placing restrictions on other software?
YOU placed the license file there and I interpret your statement as a
direct proposal to separate the split the package into the code and
  build system parts. Correct?

 ???

What is so hard to understand? If you declare your source package as
medium than it is okay to split it into atomic source packages with
different license, following YOUR interpretation. In this case we have a
build system package and a code package. But that code package does not
have a component required to be built, which is required by the GPL!

You may not like the conclusion but it is built from what you said. If
you wish to change that, license the whole tarball under the GPL and we
have the old situation. Or double-license that parts with GPL as
alternative (as done by perl, now we are back to my first mail).

Otherwise, we we have only few options:

 - remove cdrtools from Debian and put it into Debian/non-free
 - replace the RULES/* part with an excerpt of an older cdrtools version
 - replace the build-system with something else, autoconf version
created in the dvdrtools fork looks quite useable

Which one do you prefer?

But before you do that, it would make sense to think whether the claims
   of the
   OP make sense at all.

If you follow the extreme GPL-interpretation of the OP you are clearly
violating the GPL and any contributor to cdrtools has the right to sue
you. I do not read it that way and I know your role in the cdrtools
development, but you do not make it easy :-(

Nice to see: Now we are back to the content of my first mail.

I don't see how.

Iff Debian would follow the extreme GPL-interpretation of the OP, Debian would
need to call the GPL clearly non-free because it then would violate the DFSG
 Section 9.

Now we are back to my second mail. distribute along either means two
separate works on the same medium or two different works. GPL does not
affect separate works which are just distributed along on the same
medium, so there is no violation of section 9 if you like the components
to be seen as separated works (if you don't, we have an case of license
inconsistency which needs to be resolved or the package becomes
unsuitable for Debian).
So if the components are to be separated, we have to do this. When we do
this, we have a CDDL component (okay, we may reuse this package for star
later), and we have a unbuildable cdrtools code package, which needs a
GPL-compatible build system (as required by the GPL).

Now please would you show me one faulty link in this chain of
conclusions. And I mean that literally, please answer without another
because I say so and because FOO violates random excerpt and
therefore I am right.

As Debian calls the GPL free, the claims of the OP obviously do not
 apply from Debians view.

Sorry, who exactly is representing Debian here?

So let us close this for now, or do you like to start an endless discussion?

We have to resolve that issue, and the length of this discussion depends
on the time where you begin to defend your position by arguments rather
than rants against our official documents.

As said, the alternative is kicking cdrtools

No, both with exec and without asks for the pw. Without exec it crashes just

Bug#357617: tries to write files in weird places

2006-03-19 Thread Peter Samuelson

[Marc 'HE' Brockschmidt]
 Package: libsvn-core-perl
 Version: 1.2.3dfsg1-3

First question, have you tried 1.3.0-3? I'm not saying it's
necessarily fixed, but I'd appreciate if you could try it.

I guess it tries to use . for some tempfile when doing the
merge. Which is, err, not a good idea. The very helpful error message
(absolute path would be nice) gives extra-frustration points.

Uh, I don't get it - if you're merging stuff into a working copy, why
*wouldn't* the working copy be read/write?

Or is this a case where the code seems to assume your working directory
*is* the working copy, but doesn't enforce this?

Thanks,

Bug#357744: kontact: Kmail inside Kontact fails to decrypt openPGP/MIME messages

2006-03-19 Thread Shoham Levy
Package: kontact
Version: 4:3.4.3-1
Followup-For: Bug #280175

I am running KMail from within Kontact.

I had problems reading openPGP/MIME encrypted messages - including ones that I
sent myself (with encryption to myself). KMail always reported that the
passphrase is wrong - when it didn't even ask me for it in the first place.
Evenually I found out that running KMail on its own (not from within Kontact)
solves this problem.

I also read these bugs, but they are not necessarily the same as my case,
since they talk about KMail stand-alone (which works fine for me):

i believe that the actually breakage is with libdbd-mysql-perl, which
still depends on libmysqlclient15. in any case we're in the middle
of a rather messy transition and this should hopefully be resolved
in the near future... in the meantime i recommend that you use

As the stat() data is now the same on both sides, only the metadata

 files are up to date.

This is how rsync works, what can I say :-)
The subject is wrong, as it does not retransmit the files, only the
 metadata.

I understand. Will you accept this as a wishlist item? I could
imagine that rsync uses finer granularity when comparing stat
output, such that when -p/-o/-g are not passed, it doesn't compare
those parts of the stat() struct?

Apart, wouldn't it make sense if rsync first ran one checksum over
the entire file, and only does the chunks if the file actually
differs?

Description: A concurrent multi-player battle strategy game.
xbattle is a concurrent multi-player game which combines elements of
strategy with arcade-like action to capture a wide range of military
scenarios. Opponents play from separate displays, with commands being
executed concurrently -- the players do not take turns, but rather they
all issue their commands simultaneously. There can be any number of
players, with each player assigned to a specific team, indicated by marker
colors. The game board is a matrix of cells (square, hexes, etc.) that can
be occupied by colored troops, with the goal of the game being to eliminate
the enemy from the board by attacking cells occupied by enemy troops. A
wide variety of command line options (and previously configured game files)
provide an abundance of different scenarios and gaming environments.

Description: A command-line driven interactive plotting program
Package for making 2D and 3D graphs from data and functions.
Supports lots of output formats, including drivers for many printers,
(La)TeX, (x)fig, Postscript, and so on. The X11-output is packaged in
 gnuplot-x11.

Data files and self-defined functions can be manipulated by internal
C-like language. Can perform smoothing, spline-fitting, or nonlinear
fits. Can work with complex numbers.
 .
This package is for transition and to install a full-featured gnuplot
supporting the X11-output. If you want to skip the
 X-windows-dependency (e.g. if you're running a small server) just
install gnuplot-nox and skip this metapackage.

Bug#357759: Please support mips64

2006-03-19 Thread Martin Michlmayr
Package: cdrdao
Version: 1:1.2.1-6
Severity: wishlist

Your package fails to compile on a MIPS box with a 64-bit kernel and
32-bit userland because it cannot detect the host system. When I
build with linux32 [1] (i.e. the system shows up as mips rather than
mips64) it works. mips64 is not a Debian supported platform, but it
would be nice if you would add detection anyway since other people may
want to compile cdrdao on mips64.

Bug#357756: Patch to add autostart desktop file for beagled

2006-03-19 Thread Brandon Hale
Package: beagle
Version: 0.2.1

Attached is my patch from Ubuntu to include an autostart .desktop file
for beagled.
I am unclear whether or not this is supported as-is prior to Gnome 2.14.
We can track that here, and wait until 2.14 hits unstable if nessecary.

A quick google indicates that previous Gnome versions supported
autostart, but in $prefix/gnome/autostart, rather than
/etc/xdg/autostart.

Hello,

The attached patch fixes some typo in the update-updmap.1 and
update-language.8 man pages, which resulted in missing words.

The Q1 macro doesn't exist, it's probably a typo for Ql.

Bug#357732: rsync retransmits over and over again when -r is used instead of -a

2006-03-19 Thread martin f krafft
also sprach Paul Slootman [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2006.03.19.1428 +0100]:
retitle 357732 better handling of unnecessary retransmissions

As I said, the file is NOT retransmitted in the cases you show!

mh.

I understand. Will you accept this as a wishlist item? I could
imagine that rsync uses finer granularity when comparing stat
output, such that when -p/-o/-g are not passed, it doesn't
compare those parts of the stat() struct?

It uses the metadata to decide whether a file is up to date or
not, what other choices does it have? Besides of course always
using checksums, even when the metadata is the same, but that's
what --checksum is for. Hence I don't understand what you're
 trying to achieve.

It needs not use all metadata at all times. If I don't requiest
e.g. permissions to be synchronised, it should not compare
permissions. Or from a different angle: if two files are identical
except for the permission bits, but my rsync call does *not* specify
-p or -a, then rsync doesn't need to do anything, it's already
done. It surely needs not roll over the file and checksum its parts.

Apart, wouldn't it make sense if rsync first ran one checksum
over the entire file, and only does the chunks if the file
  actually differs?

Huh? That's exactly what it does, I thought that's what I said...
That's the power of rsync, the way it uses a rolling checksum to
determine what parts are the same (even if they're moved inside
the file!), and what parts differ. Only those blocks that are
new are actually transmitted. Of course, rsync also offers an
alternative with --whole-file, for those cases where it's faster
to retransmit the whole thing instead of checksumming everything
(typically useful when the IO is slower than the network).

Right. I know. The point is that rsync could be a little smarter at
deciding when it actually has to use the rolling checksum. For
instance, by checksumming the whole file first before rolling over
it.

You think the rolling checksum is less efficient than checksumming

especially given the fact that if there *is* a difference, it needs to
redo the checksum and IO the two files in question again totally when it
finds a difference. I'd like to see some analysis of how inefficent the
rolling checksum is...

Bug#357757: galeon: about:config broken by new page text search feature

2006-03-19 Thread ADFH
Package: galeon
Version: 2.0.1-3
Severity: normal

Attempting to enter something in filter field of about:config brings up
page text search dialog above status bar at bottom of window, and traps
keystrokes before they get to filter dialog.

I'm also having the same problem with about:plugins someone else
reported in bug 356082

Bug#357294: postfix: debconf integration possible

2006-03-19 Thread Eduard Bloch
Package: postfix
Version: 2.2.9-1
Followup-For: Bug #357294

Hello,

thinking twice about my configuration problems, I think the whole
rewritting thing can be integrated into the debconf setup easily. I
imagine somethink like:

1. Menu question:
Assuming the mail addresses of the local users shall not be identical
with those visible in outgoing mails. You can setup postfix to do
automatic rewritting of address parts to preset different, valid
addresses to the public. This can be done in different ways, please
choose the one you need:

 * No rewritting needed, the local addresses are valid for public (1.1)
 * Keep the username part of the address but change the hostname (1.2)
 * Map complete addresses to different mail addresses (1.3)

Resulting in following dialogs:
1.1: continue as usual
1.2: Text entry:
Please enter the visual name of the domain which is responsible for the
receival of local mails. Eg. specify example.org if the local users
receive their mails trough example.org having the same name, so
[EMAIL PROTECTED] would be rewritten to [EMAIL PROTECTED].
1.3: Text entry
Please specify pairs of local user names and visible email addresses
that should be presented to the public instead of local email addresses,
separated by space.
Example: foo [EMAIL PROTECTED] baz [EMAIL PROTECTED]

There may be another dialog, asking whether the rewring applies, smtp
only or others.

When done, the setup it would create a table with given users/hosts,
hash it as needed and integrate into config.

Eduard.

Bug#357732: rsync retransmits over and over again when -r is used instead of -a

2006-03-19 Thread martin f krafft
also sprach Paul Slootman [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2006.03.19.1444 +0100]:
It needs not use all metadata at all times. If I don't requiest
e.g. permissions to be synchronised, it should not compare
permissions. Or from a different angle: if two files are
identical except for the permission bits, but my rsync call does
  *not* specify

How is it to know that the two files are identical in that case?

How does it know they are identical in the forth run of rsync in the
original post, after the permissions had been synchronised too?
stat() structures can be equal for different files...

Right. I know. The point is that rsync could be a little smarter
at deciding when it actually has to use the rolling checksum.
For instance, by checksumming the whole file first before
  rolling over it.

You think the rolling checksum is less efficient than checksumming
the whole file? Perhaps, but I wonder whether it's measurable,

It certainly takes longer.

especially given the fact that if there *is* a difference, it
needs to redo the checksum and IO the two files in question again
totally when it finds a difference. I'd like to see some analysis
of how inefficent the rolling checksum is...

True.

I have two huge directories with complex permissions. I always rsync
from one to the other. Previously, I used to set the permissions on
the source before rsync'ing with -a. Whenever I forgot to set the
permissions locally, things would screw up.

Therefore, we set umasks and setgid correctly all over the target
tree, and use -r now for the synchronisation. But this takes almost
half an hour even if the source hasn't changed since the last sync.
It used to take less than a minute when we used -a.

Hi,

Nicolas François [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

The attached patch fixes some typo in the update-updmap.1 and

The Q1 macro doesn't exist, it's probably a typo for Ql.

Many thanks for spotting this (I'm curious how!). This is now fixed in
SVN.

Bug#357771: kdevelop3: report window's double click behaviour

2006-03-19 Thread Eike Sauer
Package: kdevelop3
Version: 4:3.3.1-1
Severity: wishlist

I think the report window's bahaviour (don't know if this
applies to other windows, too) when double clicked should
be changed to be more usefull.
ATM, when clicking on a compiler error, it jumps to the
corresponding position in the source code (good) _and_
it copies the report line into the copy buffer (evil).

Steps to reproduce:
- write some source where a function is used in one way and declared
in another way
- compile (you get the error report in the report window, including a
line with the declaration and one with the usage)
- double click on the declartion line in report window (jumps to
source)
- copy parameter definition with strg-insert
- double click on place where the function is called in report window
(jumps to source)
- paste with shift-insert
- oops. It inserts the bug report instead of the copied parameter
declaration.

I think one user interaction should have one defined result,
either jump-to-code or copy-line, not both. It's quite irritating.

Double clicking might be expected to fill the X copy buffer (the one
that's pasted with middle button), but not the buffer that's filled
with (windows-like) keys.

Bug#347790: xterm: boldMode patch

2006-03-19 Thread Thomas Dickey

 Package: xterm

 Followup-For: Bug #347790

The attached patch fixes this issue, and additionally alters the
behavior of boldMode. Previously, boldMode only had an effect on the
primary font. This patch extends the option to also affect the
alternate fonts font1, font2, font3, etc. This, in my opinion, is
more useful, more consistent, and better coincides with the
 description in the manpage.

I agree that it should do what you're describing, but the patch is applied
before xterm has found the data that it needs to do the boldMode feature.
For instance, on the next line (see the context of the patch) it checks to
see if it was able to derive a bold font specifier. Later it checks if
that was different from the normal (or font1, etc) font.

Bug#357732: rsync retransmits over and over again when -r is used instead of -a

It needs not use all metadata at all times. If I don't requiest
e.g. permissions to be synchronised, it should not compare
permissions. Or from a different angle: if two files are
identical except for the permission bits, but my rsync call does
   *not* specify

How is it to know that the two files are identical in that case?

How does it know they are identical in the forth run of rsync in the
original post, after the permissions had been synchronised too?
stat() structures can be equal for different files...

Yes, but that's the design decision for rsync, which is overridable with
--checksum. You're asking for the check to become _more_ prone to
errors.

BTW: rsync uses file size and timestamp, owner and permissions don't
come into it; sorry for the misunderstanding. So all you need added to
your -r is -t to prevent the checksums.

You still didn't answer my question: How is it to know that the two
files are identical in that case? You're assuming it can know this in
your argument, please explain that part. If you can't, the rest doesn't
hold much water either.

Right.

Duh. But how much? 0.01% perhaps? I don't know, but I expect it's hardly
noticeable, and as I said:

especially given the fact that if there *is* a difference, it
needs to redo the checksum and IO the two files in question again
totally when it finds a difference. I'd like to see some analysis

So it's only useful when you *know* that files will be identical in
99.9% of the case. And: the --checksum option does exactly what you ask,
I believe, unless I've misunderstood you.

of how inefficent the rolling checksum is...

I don't see how that's worse than the things would screw up when the
permissions were not set beforehand, rsync without a previous -a
(or -t) invocation will do the same thing in that circumstance.

Bug#357773: battery warning command execution, should be also set by remaining capacity

2006-03-19 Thread Marcin
Package: gkrellm
Version: 2.2.7-9
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

In gkrelmm`s battery settings menu it is possible to set the warrning
command to be executed when the remaining battery time is low.
The problem is because gkrellm counts the left time not correctly
formaly my battery should work 1,5 h but, despit that it worked about
1:45 h
Unfortunetlly i have set 'sudo poweroff' when the battery`s left time
is 3 min, but becuase of bad counting it turned off computer when the
battery had 15% of it`s full capacity. That is why i suggest to enable
such command to be run also, when do battery`s capacity is under some
level in both percents and mAh.
