Hi Ariel, Yes a debug/cheat mode exists! DEVELOPPEMENT2 must be defined in the etbfonte1.cpp file. During the game you can then press [Ctrl] + [P] simultaneously. You can so select an option in the cheat menu :-) It may however be best to grab the latest development version: http://sourceforge.net/cvs/?group_id=20416 Thank you for this bug report. -- Bruno Ethvignot http://linux.tlk.fr/contact/

Bug#409741: Please fix this DVD+RW formating non-sense
Fabio is right, gnomebaker does crap [1]. You do not need to format a DVD+RW all the time but only once and you do not need to blank it. The menu item says format which is bullshit since it means blank. Further, it does not check whether the format was executed correctly and just says format done or so. What it should do: - check the format of the medium - for DVD+RW, have a Format dialog and a Blank dialog. Both shall warn the users because repeating re-formating does no good for the DVD+RW media. And the Blank dialog telling that blanking is not neccessary for DVD+RW. It can be just overwritten with new data. - For DVD-RW, the considerations are the same as for CD-RW. The Dialog shall be better merged with CD-RW. Eduard. Bug#246680: Updated patch for building bind9 and bind9-ldap together

Bug#317615: [external] Please check for C++ ABI mixups
tags 317615 wontfix retitle 317615 [external] check for conflicting C++ library dependencies thanks I thought there was some further discussion in the bug, but apparently not. I think it would be a good idea for lintian to test for C++ ABI mixups during the transition. As an example look at bookmarkbridge: % ldd /usr/bin/bookmarkbridge | grep std libstdc++.so.6 = /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.6 (0x55fe4000) libstdc++.so.5 = /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5 (0x5622d000) In general lintian could check for any occurences of two sonames of the same library. I'm pretty sure that what you were seeing was not a binary literally linked against two different SONAMEs of a library at the same time (I'm not sure you could even convince the library and linker to do that without deep magic), but rather a binary that was linked against one C++ library and against a library that was then linked against a different one. bookmarkbridge, for instance, also links against Qt, and I bet that's where the old version was coming from for the transition. As such, finding this requires chasing transitive library dependencies, which is outside the scope of lintian (lintian only does checks contained within a single package). However, since this bug was originally reported, checklib has started doing archive-wide checks for shared library problems. This is probably best reported there. Leaving this bug open tagged wontfix as an idea seed for other projects until we can confirm that something is doing this. -- Russ Allbery ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) http://www.eyrie.org/~eagle/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#405454: [new check] init script in level S must only use commands from /sbin:/bin
On systems with a separate /usr filesystem, several boot scripts in level S break because they use commands from /usr/bin or /usr/sbin. Culprits include scripts for essential packages that perform system initialization. It would be desirable for Lintian to check that scripts that delcare level S in their LSB header _only_ use commands from /bin and /sbin. Note: as Manoj noted, it would be pointless to add this to Policy, since maintainers are already expected to verify this. Thus, Lintian would introduce this check as additional idiot-proofing, to ensure that systems can factually be built with a separate /usr filesystem. The hard part about this is that lintian has no way of knowing which files are in /bin and /sbin. I suppose we could maintain a static list, but that looks extremely unattractive. I'm not sure that lintian is the right tool to use here. This looks to me like a hard problem, particularly given that checking this means knowing whether programs invoked without a path are actually shell built-ins (and since such an init script may be a /bin/bash script, there are lots of those). -- Russ Allbery ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) http://www.eyrie.org/~eagle/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. So maybe we should rather find out how these fonts got there. If it is something that might have happened to more users, we may need to cater for it, if it's just a special case on your system, maybe not. They are placed there by fmtutil-sys. To reproduce: - uncomment the cyrtex line in /etc/texmf/fmt.d/01tetex.cnf - run fmtutil-sys --cnffile /etc/texmf/fmt.d/01tetex.cnf --all (everything as root). This creates a bunch of .tfm and 600 DPI .pk fonts in /var/lib/texmf/fonts. Then when a non-root user needs these .pk fonts at another resolution, they are created in the current directory. Yes, I can reproduce this, and it still happens in texlive 2005. I don't know about 2007 yet, but I fear it hasn't changed. I didn't have time to look at the details, but from memory the rules for font creation are like this: - put them in TEXMFVAR, i.e. ~/.texmf-var/, if possible - put them into /tmp/texfonts as a fallback Now fmtutil-sys should not create the fonts in ~root/.texmf-var, naturally, and the question is: If fmtutil would put the fonts in the fallback, /tmp/texfonts, where they are erased upon reboot, would that cause any problems? I guess not, since either the information is included in the format dump, or it can be recreated by a user who runs the format. Bug#406362: ignores errors from (invoke|update)-rc.d
The general problem is covered by policy, which requires all scripts to either run set -e, or to test the exit status of every command. || true shouldn't be widely allowed, perhaps this could be expressed as foo || [ $? -ne 0 ], which accomplishes the same, but indicates to lintian that the exit status is actually checked. (And the extra crud is reasonable to discourage people from using it...) Proper error checking in subshells should also be tested. I propose that lintian detect this as a special case, and trigger the same or comparable warning as for the debhelper bug. (Ideally, I know that lintian would grok Bourne). It isn't clear to me that any of the following have a special reason for ignoring errors, though exim4-daemon-light comments on the need for it... Given that of the five packages you reported this against, two of them confirmed it was a false positive and initscripts looks like a false positive to me as well, this is not filling me with enthusiasm. I want lintian to catch common maintainer errors, but I don't want it to hen-peck maintainers or bug them about things they may have really meant. This is a hard one, since if the script is buggy the bug will rarely show up in practice, but I'm not sure a lintian check is the right approach. (And I *really* dislike the idea of telling maintainers to obfuscate their code to avoid a lintian warning.) -- Russ Allbery ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) http://www.eyrie.org/~eagle/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Le mardi 27 février 2007 à 03:56 +0200, Mika Rastas a écrit : Package: libgnomevfs2-0 Version: 1:2.16.3-6 Followup-For: Bug #379106 Hi After a restart I still couldn't connect and it gave me the same error. Argh. Is the prompt when connecting with the command line still the same? I was thinking should I update nautilus and a bunch of other packages too, if my problem might be coming from there? Theoretically no, this is all in gnome-vfs. Offcourse I'd like to know how usable is experimental gnome packages today? Currently I think they are better than the unstable packages, as most important issues have been fixed. Cheers, -- .''`. : :' : We are debian.org. Bug#411635: getopt_long_only: short vs. long option ambiguity
Hello, I disagree on 2 points: 1. The bug should be assigned to libc6 instead of libc6-i686, because it's equally applicable to all architectures, including i386 of course. 2. The severity isn't minor in any way, because: * the bug potentially affects a lot of packages that use getopt_long_only() * it introduces a whole new class of ambiguities that were not even mentioned in getopt's documentation _and_ were ignored in implementation altogether, AFAIS * the current getopt_long_only()'s behaviour is completely against any expectation or common sense, that greatly increases risk of programming errors and bugs Citing man getopt_long_only: getopt_long() and getopt_long_only() also return the option character when a short option is recognized. For a long option, they return val if flag is NULL, and 0 otherwise. Error and -1 returns are the same as for getopt(), plus ’?’ for an ambiguous match or an extraneous parameter. * there's no option `-l' is ambiguous warning message generated at all, or '?' returned for short vs. long option ambiguity. (you get the '?' and warning when there's amgiguity between 2 long options (e.g. '-longa' vs. '-longb')). * curent resolution of ambiguities is inconsistent, because it prefers long option in one case and short one in all others (see below): There's no description about how the current implementation resolves short vs. long option ambiguities, and the actual rule is the next (JFYI): a) lone (unbundled) short option '-l': '-l' vs. '--long' = short option takes precedence b) bundled short option in beginning of a bundle '-ls': '-l' '-s' vs. '--long' '-s' = short option is chosen ('-l' '-s') c) bundled short option in middle of a bundle '-Sls': '-S' '-l' '-s' vs. '-S' '--long' '-s' = short option is chosen ('-S' '-l' '-s') d) bundled short option at end of a bundle '-sl': '-s' '-l' vs. '-s' '--long' = long option is preferred here ('-s' '--long') -- IMHO this doesn't qualify as a minor bug. Regards, xrgtn

Bug#412069: patch for beryl support
On Mon, Feb 26, 2007 at 11:02:02PM -0500, David Nusinow wrote: I haven't decided if enabling composite by default is a wise move yet. No one in Debian has done a real analysis as to what the downsides of such a decision are. While compiz and beryl may be very sexy, I don't want to break or degrade performance on systems not running them simply for the convenience of not having to modify xorg.conf. It's not out of the question, but I don't want to blindly enable options in our default settings for the bling of it. Than can we conditionalise it? We could add a question with priority 'normal' that most users won't see. Then in the post-etch era, the Beryl community can add a reconfigure xserver-xorg and enable beryl settings step in their how-tos. If we were to do that, I suppose we would prefer to have XAANoOffscreenPixmaps and AddARGBGLXVisuals as well. -- Robert Millan ACK STORM, S.L. - http://www.ackstorm.es/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Package: cupsys Version: 1.1.23-10 Severity: grave this is an issue that has affected ordinary users constantly, and finally, the last straw: after having to tell THE SAME USER the SAME THING because they are too stressed to remember i FINALLY have to report this as a grave useability bug. the reason why i am reporting it as a grave bug is because the symptoms are that the package becomes unuseable - in order to get your attention - and i expect you to then consider whether to downgrade this bug to wishlist or whether to leave it as grave, because it _is_ really important. the problem is this: silently, USB printers, on a temporary glitch, the status is set to Stopped. absolutely no warning is given. no flashing lights. no popups. cupsys is, after all, a back-end. in e.g. KDE, a *tiny* bit of advice, which users have to look for, is given: it's in the Information tab of the printer. this is completely utterly useless. something like an extra state therefore needs to be added: detected temporary failure, going to stop and retry in a bit. i am serious: this was my _number one_ support phone call for SEVERAL YEARS. and EVERY TIME i had to explain to them, CHECK THE PRINTER queue, CHECK THE PRINTER queue, CHECK THE PRINTER queue. _really_ ing boring. so. you need to stop this from happening. provide a notification system which is a command that can be called to send 'alerts' periodically to desktops saying 'Printer Error detected: we're going to put this queue offline NOW'. _anything_ - absolutely _anything_. you've assumed that users are bright - but if it's not something that is done again and again and again and again, then they have no memory of the things that you taught them _yesterday_ let alone last week. and this occurs _far_ too infrequently (once a month for example) for them to remember what to do. so, whilst this a wishlist item, it's a pretty damn important one, and that's why i've put it as 'grave'. l. -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.16-1-686 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Versions of packages cupsys depends on: ii adduser 3.101 Add and remove users and groups ii debconf 1.5.11 Debian configuration management sy ii libc6 2.3.6-7GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcupsimage2 1.1.20final+rc1-10 Common UNIX Printing System(tm) - ii libcupsys2 [libcupsys 1.2.7-2Common UNIX Printing System(tm) - ii libcupsys2-gnutls10 1.1.23-12 Common UNIX Printing System(tm) - ii libgnutls11 1.0.16-6 GNU TLS library - runtime library ii libpam0g 0.77-0.se5 Pluggable Authentication Modules l ii libpaper1 1.1.14 Library for handling paper charact ii libslp1 1.0.11-6 OpenSLP libraries ii patch 2.5.9-2Apply a diff file to an original ii perl-modules 5.8.8-7Core Perl modules ii xpdf-utils3.01-7 Portable Document Format (PDF) sui ii zlib1g1:1.2.3-9 compression library - runtime Versions of packages cupsys recommends: ii cupsys-client 1.1.20final+rc1-10 Common UNIX Printing System(tm) - pn gs-espnone (no description available) ii smbclient 3.0.23d-4 a LanManager-like simple client fo -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#412664: dibbler-server ignores all DHCPv6 solicits while running in VMWare
Package: dibbler-server Version: 0.4.2.dfsg-2 Severity: important I'm running Debian in VMWare server on a Win2K machine for testing purposes. We have some DHCPv6 clients that we are testing, and I tried reproducing one bug using dibbler. Previously, wide-dhcpv6-server had worked fine for this job. However, dibbler-server ignores all DHCPv6 solicit messages, and prints Option type 8 invalid in the log. This seems very weird, since RFC3315 describes option type 8 (elapsed time) and says it should be part of all DHCPv6 messages. Thus, if dibbler would reject all packets with option 8, it would have to ignore all solicit messages, which I find hard to believe. Bug#406470: not reproducible here
Hi Thomas, (no reply-to was set; do you need CC:'s in the future?) Thomas Braun: - Do you have this behjavour always (or only after a start and stop cycle of kile)? What do you mean by start and stop cycle? Anyway, when I check the option, kile immediately starts hogging, when I uncheck it, kile immediately behaves normally again. With start stop cycle I meant, quitting kile and then restarting kile. I see. Nope, a start-stop cycle is not required. - Do you have your home on a local device, or some remote stuff (nfs, openafs, smb, or similiar) The home dirs are in OpenAFS. I think we found the culprit :) Kile is using a fifo to be able to insert tags from lyx-compliant apps (This means e.g. gbib writes a bibtex reference to .lyxpipe.in and then kile gets notified and inserts the reference). But according to http://www.dementia.org/twiki/bin/view/AFSLore/UsageFAQ#2_13_Can_I_create_a _fifo_aka_nam Fifos are not supported by OpenAFS :( Currently I don't know a solution but I will ask some other kile devs for help. Well, that explains things. If I may make two suggestions: 1. Kile tries to create a FIFO and when this fails, it creates a regular file instead: [pid 4968] 09:58:11.419907 mknod(/afs/.../home/xxx/.lyxpipe.in, S_IFIFO| 0644) = -1 EPERM (Operation not permitted) [pid 4968] 09:58:11.419981 dup(2) = 13 [pid 4968] 09:58:11.420047 fcntl64(13, F_GETFL) = 0x8001 (flags O_WRONLY| O_LARGEFILE) [pid 4968] 09:58:11.420102 close(13) = 0 [pid 4968] 09:58:11.420138 write(2, Could not create pipe : Operatio..., 48Could not create pipe : Operation not permitted) = 48 [pid 4968] 09:58:11.420257 open(/afs/.../home/xxx/.lyxpipe.in, O_RDWR| O_LARGEFILE) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory) [pid 4968] 09:58:11.420326 open(/afs/.../home/xxx/.lyxpipe.in, O_RDWR| O_CREAT|O_TRUNC|O_LARGEFILE, 0666) = 13 The regular file messes up the usual select/pipe semantics. It would be better (as a short term solution) to show the user a clean error message instead, something like Sorry, but this functionality is unavailable because the file system of your home directory does not support FIFOs. 2. (long-term solution) Place the FIFO somewhere where they are supported for sure, e.g. in /tmp/kde-username/. Labeling the condition as DFSG is unfortunate and very very misleading. Both MEncoder and libdvdcss are perfectly free-in-every-sense-of-the-word GPLed programs. libdvdcss is not in Debian because of the FUD surrounding DVD decryption software, MEncoder is not in Debian because some people get queasy about encoding software. None of this, however, is related to the DFSG in any way, much less does it go contrary to the DFSG. Has this been discussed on debian-legal ? (Adding mencoder, not adding mplayer. I *know* everything about adding mplayer was discussed at its time) No, it hasn't. Should it be discussed? Removing MEncoder, at least for the moment, was a compromise with the ftpmasters. No difference can be found on first sight (and I tested most basic stuff: cube, skydome, etc). nVidia doesn't need AddARGBGLXVisuals, but it needs XAANoOffscreenPixmaps. The latter is weird, as TTBOMK the nvidia driver doesn't use XAA at all. I don't know about ATI. But ATI seems to be so badly screwed wrt Beryl that we shouldn't care much. Beryl works quite well on my ATI r300 using XAANoOffscreenPixmaps - well, excepted I can't resize windows and sometimes the whole thing just freezes. Yes, but as Brice said before we shouldn't enable these options unless we know what the drawbacks are. Maybe you can investigate about that? The option is only needed to work around bugs in XAA. Because basically everything is a pixmap when windows are redirected (i.e. when a compositing manager is running), it effectively disables most 2D acceleration in that case and still a large portion of it without a compositing manager. So this option can't be enabled by default, because it hurts performance in all cases *except* when running a GLX compositing manager. My point is that if we don't figure that out satisfactorily in time, we could just enable the Composite extension, which sounds fairly safe, and seems to be enough for Intel cards. And Intel happens to be the card brand we have the best driver support for (compared to a RE'd driver for ATI and nothing for nVidia), so focusing on it makes sense to me. Yes, that should be mostly safe at this point. The only exception that comes to mind offhand is that fglrx disables the DRI when Composite is enabled. -- Earthling Michel Dänzer | http://tungstengraphics.com Libre software enthusiast | Debian, X and DRI developer

Bug#408108: this is an important issue to fix for Etch
* [EMAIL PROTECTED] ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) wrote: I am waiting for your alternative icon set. really? if we had an alternative could it be used for Etch? I don't know if I could step up to this task (my skills lie in other areas), but I'm not convinced they're needed anyway, i.e. Well I think we need a set consistent between all the ice* applications, and I find the current set to be just fine, except for the colors being too similar. Is there anyone that can help Stefan Voelkel apply his alternative colour to the full set? Does the wider community understand that help applied here could make it into Etch, if indeed it can? Has anyone asked Unicko (http://unicko.blog-fx.com/) if he can provide his set (which we're now using) in a stronger colour? if not, I'd be happy to ask (if its necessary my colleague speaks Spanish) He has been contacted, I believe he has some computer problems. Everything at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/IceWeaselIcon is either similarly too washed out or presumably infringing. I apologise if I've missed debate on this already - this bug seems to be the only mention of this issue in the bug database at least. -- Eric Dorland [EMAIL PROTECTED] ICQ: #61138586, Jabber: [EMAIL PROTECTED] 1024D/16D970C6 097C 4861 9934 27A0 8E1C 2B0A 61E9 8ECF 16D9 70C6 signature.asc Description: Digital signature
Bug#412668: debian-policy: extended 10.7 to other forms of configuration (e.g. symlinks)
Package: debian-policy Version: 3.7.2.2 Severity: important [Severity set as important, because the lack of a requirement can have serious implications, including security ones.] Configuration is sometimes represented in another way than contents of a configuration file, e.g. a set of symbolic links. However there is absolutely no reason to regard such information as less important than the contents of a configuration file. This is particularly true for 10.7.3, e.g. the Debian policy should require that local changes in symbolic links (or whatever that can represent a configuration) must be preserved during an upgrade. An example is bug 412159 that is not regarded as a release-critical bug though one of the settings is not preserved, because the corresponding configuration is represented by a symbolic link somewhere in /etc. Note: though in this bug, the lost configuration is just one bit of information, this is still annoying, and in general, symbolic links can also represent much more information and possibly configuration related to security/privacy settings. -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-4-686-bigmem Locale: LANG=POSIX, LC_CTYPE=en_US.ISO8859-1 (charmap=ISO-8859-1) -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#410740: x11-common: please conflict with opera ( 9.10-20061214.6)
Hi Debian, I'm the Opera package maintainer. This bug doesn't say what the cause for the needed conflict is. However, the .5 (sarge) and .1 (static) builds released at the same time as the specified .6 (etch) build almost certainly had whatever fix was relevant, just as good as the .6 one did. So the final .6 suffix causes builds from the same day, but for sarge and older, to be in conflict. It may thus make some sense to drop this suffix. You would also do well to conflict with opera-static with version numbers matching the same constraint as opera. I've been told that the conflict has to do with the opera symlink in /usr/X11R6/bin/: I suppose the 20061214 build is the first official release your correspondent met in which the bug is fixed. However, the bug was fixed in 2006/May (and went into assorted unofficial builds between then and the official release). This should have gone into the 9.00 official release. So, if the conflict is about the symlink, you should be able to amend the version to 9.00-20060600 or similar. If the problem wasn't that symlink, I'd greatly appreciate it if you can tell me the details. I can ask our QA team to give a more precise date on the correct release version. If it's a bug I didn't notice myself fixing, I may need to port it to newer branches of the packaging scripts ! On Tue, Feb 27, 2007 at 10:55:55AM +0100, Michel Dänzer wrote: My point is that if we don't figure that out satisfactorily in time, we could just enable the Composite extension, which sounds fairly safe, and seems to be enough for Intel cards. If we have to choose between optimizing for free drivers that work sanely (either intel or radeon) and non-free drivers that are partly broken, I think it's clear what is better. Ok with enabling Composite by default then? -- Robert Millan ACK STORM, S.L. - http://www.ackstorm.es/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#410039: No /usr/lib/xen folder so it's confusing other packages
Goswin von Brederlow wrote: Thomas Goirand [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: Goswin von Brederlow wrote: The problem is that multiple xen versions (3.0-unstable, 3.0.3, 3.0.4) can be installed and they are incompatible with each other. If each one contained /usr/lib/python/xen then the packages would have to conflict. I understood that, for sure! What you need is a common package that contains wrapper scripts in /usr/lib/python/xen that will pick the right /usr/lib/xen-VERSION/lib/python subdir applicable to the running xen version. Maybe xen-utils-common is what you should be using? Maybe a script run at startup could check for the xen version that is running and make the appropriate symlink? Sure that could be in a xen-common package, for example... Is that what xen-utils-common does? Thomas /usr is (potentially) read-only. You can only write there during install time which is not enough. You would have to put a static link to /var/lib/xen and then have a dynamic link there or something. Porting firebird1.5 to any new architecture is not practical due to two reasons: 1) 1.5 is a dead branch. All new development is done for 2.x and this includes porting to new architectures. The sole idea of firebird1.5 debian packages is to continue support for large, legacy applications that can't (yet) be moved on firebrid2.0[1] 2) Firebird uses a unique number for each architecture it supports. This is called implementation id internally and is stored in each created database. This is a way to tell the server if compatible architecture was used to create the database and is it safe to operate. Implementation IDs are assigned sequentially upstream, first in CVS HEAD, then in any actively developed branch (2.x now). [1] Whether this can happen before Lenny is yet to be seen. I'd be the first to throw away the 1.5 packages and provide only 2.x ones when 1.5 is no longer used/needed. So porting firebird1.5 to new architecture, although not that hard, would involve first porting CVS HEAD, assigning Implementation ID and making the needed changes in the build process, then backporting the changes to firebird1.5. Considering that firebird never run on the architecture, it is much better to start with recent version (2.x), instead of all the hassle of supporting 1.5, without upstream caring. dam -- Damyan Ivanov Modular Software Systems phone +359(2)928-2611, 929-3993 fax +359(2)920-0994 mobile +359(88)856-6067 JID [EMAIL PROTECTED] signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

I repeat (hopefully more clearly): I consider the video output template a very very bad idea. MPlayer has an elaborate system to work out the ideal video output driver on its own that this template overrides for no practical gain. Bug#412680: debian-installer: does not properly handle archive in case of key failure
Package: debian-installer Severity: normal I was today trying to install etch from debian-testing-i386-CD-1.iso dated 2007-02-26. Unfortunately, I chose a partially desynced mirror (ftp.de.d.o), and the installer failed on me silently. After choosing install software and completing tasksel, the installer stopped with a progress bar stalling at 5 % and hanging there. Inspecting the process list showed an idle aptitude process. I guess that the aptitude was hanging at the prompt Untrusted packages could compromise your system's security. The installer should check and catch this condition and not hang indefinetely. Bug#160683: date: long timezone offset sighlently changed
tag 160683 moreinfo thanks On Thu, Sep 12, 2002 at 12:10:48PM -0700, Blars Blarson wrote: Gnu date apperently siglently limits the timezone offset to 23, so the above command will SOMETIMES show todays date instead with no error message. (The SOMETIMES makes this even harder to debug.) This breaks portable and older shell scripts. (I realize there are better ways of doing this using Gnu date, but they don't work on solaris or aix.) Could you be more precise on SOMETIMES and maybe include steps to reproduce? Does it only happen for specific dates? Which? Does it depend on the architecture? Which? Bug#412080: please default to vo=x11
Maybe we should take bug 412080 out of the CC, it's a different issue.. Robert, can you verify this problem still occurs with a fresh compile of a Subversion checkout? Reimar, can you have a look, this sounds like your area ..
