Bug#219242: use of commun functions names
I rebuilt samba with the attached patch, and the number of symbols exported by libsmbclient went down from more than 4000 to 51. The patch adds a version script for this lib, which only exports symbols matching smbc_*. I added tentative detection code for the configure script, which checks the version of GNU ld. As far as I know, support for this was added for GNU ld 2.12 (or at least, that's what libtool.m4 seems to check), released in 2002. I'll attach a complete debdiff, and the actual patch I dropped in debian/patches. That's definitely a big improvement even if I'm completely unable to understand a single line (everybody knows how dumb I am). Who takes care to report this to samba-technical (assuming the patch is correct, which I'm blindly doing)? That probably needs being able to talk about the details with the Samba Team, which excludes me..:-) Steve? Julien? Or is Jerry listening enough? :) signature.asc Description: Digital signature

After killing the PPP connection, the virtual USB serial port simulated by the card is not responsive any more, AT commands are ignored. Marc, can you tell us several things: 1) Is at port responsive to AT commands before you kill the ppp connection, but after it hangs? I don't know, since I need to kill the ppp connection to get access to the serial port, needn't I? Mine is. After I kill the connection, I can just start a new connection, and it works, I don't have to unload usbserial, nor unplug the card. So things seem to be a bit different then in your case. What kernel and pppd version are you running? I am usually running a fresh vanilla kernel and a rather current sid. I moved into a new apartment without broadband and had to use UMTS quite often since May 12 through June 5, when broadband was finally installed. The issue was present during the entire period. 2) How often, after how much time of the connection running it usually happens? Irregular intervals. Sometimes the connection is stable for hours, sometimes it dies after a few minutes. I also doubt that it is depending on traffic volume transported. I have now two Option cards running: one is like this: ATI Manufacturer: Option N.V. Model: GlobeTrotter Fusion Revision: 2.9.4 (Date: May 12 2005, Time: 10:55:21) (run ATI in minicom or picocom to see yours). ATI Manufacturer: Option Wireless Technology Model: 129 Revision: 3.1.2 (Date: Mar 08 2004, Time: 11:54:30) I used ser2net ;) and has the first two letters of the serial number RC. See http://www.pharscape.org/content/view/40/53/ CL here. That link is a rather nice resource. I have returned the novatel card to my company who was nice enough to provide me with a SIM and PCMCIA card to use during my broadband-less time. And this card uses usbserial. On this card it hangs very rarely, I have been able to run it 7 days without a hang. And recently I had it hang, but after I waited some hours it did unhang. I never waited that long, when the connection hang, I only waited a couple of minutes and then proceeded to reset. and currently I upgraded the firmware to: Revision: 3.19.0Hd (Date: May 31 2006, Time: 15:49:25) Can I upgrade card firmware without Windows? Bug#426440: /usr/sbin/pppd: sometimes connection with Option GlobeTrotter card hangs, ping: sendmsg: No buffer space available
On Sat, Jun 09, 2007 at 08:33:16AM +0200, Marc Haber wrote: I don't know, since I need to kill the ppp connection to get access to the serial port, needn't I? No, you don't. You get 3 or 4 serial ports named /dev/ttyUSB0 to /dev/ttyUSB2 or /dev/ttyUSB3 and on the /dev/ttyUSB2 port you can run AT commands while beeing connected on port /dev/ttyUSB0 with ppp without killing it. But if you disconnect your terminal from /dev/ttyUSB2 the ppp connection will hangup (some bug), so a workaround is to first run statserial on /dev/ttyUSB2, and keep it running all the time. Then you can connect and disconnect a terminal from /dev/ttyUSB2 and ppp will not hangup, until you don't stop statserial. Its available in Debian in a package 'statserial'. Revision: 3.19.0Hd (Date: May 31 2006, Time: 15:49:25) Can I upgrade card firmware without Windows? No. At least not currently, until someone writes a firmware upgrade program for GNU/Linux. I searched a bit, and I now suspect that tha hangs might be because of this bug: http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6402 They write that in vanilla kernel 2.6.15.7 it is fine, and the bug was introduced in some later version, so now I am compiling 2.6.15.7 to see if it'll fix it. You may try the same, your card is different hardware. If you do try, tell me if it fixed it or not. -- Miernik http://miernik.name/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Bug#428118: ion3: New upstream release (ion-3rc-20070608)
Package: ion3 Version: 20070506-2 Severity: normal There's a new upstream release that Tuomo claims solves a problem that I'm experiencing in 3rc-20070506. I haven't compiled his version yet to prove that it's really the solution, though. Because there's ultimately a problem with this current version, that's why I've left the priority at normal. Here's the problem. Detached floating windows don't have the correct sloppy focus. Instead, they are behaving like the scratchpad and hording the focus. Ultimately, it's very difficult with key strokes to get from a floating window to another frame. -Sukant -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing'), (90, 'unstable'), (80, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.21-hole (PREEMPT) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages ion3 depends on: ii aterm [x-terminal-emulator] 1.0.0-4Afterstep XVT - a VT102 emulator f ii debconf 1.5.13 Debian configuration management sy ii devscripts2.10.4 Scripts to make the life of a Debi ii libc6 2.5-9+b1 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libice6 1:1.0.3-2 X11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii liblua5.1-0 5.1.2-1Simple, extensible, embeddable pro ii libsm62:1.0.3-1 X11 Session Management library ii libwww-perl 5.805-1WWW client/server library for Perl ii libx11-6 2:1.0.3-7 X11 client-side library ii libxext6 1:1.0.3-2 X11 miscellaneous extension librar Versions of packages ion3 recommends: ii xfonts-100dpi 1:1.0.0-3 100 dpi fonts for X ii xfonts-75dpi 1:1.0.0-3 75 dpi fonts for X -- debconf information excluded -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. The dot directory is created from inside libshishi, in lib/init.c (maybe_install_usercfg), I don't think it should be created from there. For the warning, that's useful information so that users can diagnose why shishi is not working if there's missing files, but probably would make sense to disable the output if not asked for, like in verbose mode or similar. There may be multiple problems, that can have different solutions, here. For example: * It seems that 'telnet' might not need to initialize Shishi at all, unless it will use a Kerberos connection. * The complaint is printed. * The directory is created. Sounds like an accurate summary of the problems. I will look into if it is simple to make inetutils defer the call to shishi_init until Kerberos is definitely needed. Excellent. Thoughts on the other problems appreciated. Maybe the directory should simply be created, with no warning? That seems fine if shishi_init only gets called when using Kerberos. - Josh Triplett signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature
Bug#427703: Please support an encrypt-to-self option in ~/.gnupg/gpg.conf
Werner Koch wrote: On Wed, 6 Jun 2007 22:14, [EMAIL PROTECTED] said: It does work fine, though, if you have only one private key. And as long as you don't accidently import another secret key. True. I'd like to share gpg.conf between machines; apart from the key IDs, it seems entirely non-machine-specific. gpg doesn't seem to support any configuration file include mechanism that I could use to split configuration files. Do you have any other suggestion on how to make gpg.conf non-key-specific? Using an environment variable for the default key? We would need to implement this. And then also your suggestion ;-) That sounds like an interesting option to solve the split configuration problem. That would allow me to share gpg.conf, and put the default key ID in a machine-specific environment file (which I will probably need anyway). One other, somewhat more elegant possibility: how about allowing a list of key IDs for default-key, and selecting as the default key the first one with a private key available? That would allow a single configuration that said If I have my secure private key, use that, otherwise use my somewhat-secure work key. encrypt-to-self would become even more important in this situation: it would tell gpg to encrypt to whichever key it uses as the default key. Please file a bug report at bugs.gnupg.org if you really want that. Done. Issue 806 suggests accepting a list of key IDs for default-key, and issue 807 suggests the encrypt-to-self option. Bug#219242: use of commun functions names

:) I talked to Julien on IRC and mentioned that I thought it would be better to put the version script under source/libsmb instead of directly under source. Otherwise, the patch looks sane to me, and I don't have any reason to disagree with Julien's check for a compatible version of ld. Julien, let me know if you prefer me to advocate this patch upstream. -- Steve Langasek Give me a lever long enough and a Free OS Debian Developer to set it on, and I can move the world. Bug#427917: [Pkg-fonts-devel] Bug#427917: please cand you package/add xgridfit ?
Pn, 2007 06 08 10:06 +0200, Denis Jacquerye rašė: What does Debian fonts packaging team think about xgridfit? Would this package be useful for Debian? Yes, packaging xgridfit would be useful. It is already required to generate Junicode with all the features. Currently the ttf-junicode package lacks hinting. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ttf-junicode/+bug/117214 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=428034 Other fonts like Old Standard also use xgridfit for hinting. It is a great way to hint a font, it makes things a lot easier to work, read, and modify. OK, I will try to do this package. From what I understand a path in one of the scripts would need to be changed. What path? Where I can find this path? What is wrong with the upstream package regarding packaging? The archive has no COPYING file or other allusion about the license. Every executable script should have man pages. The scripts should print the messages about the usage: xxx. It would be not bad that there were Makefile with an install and uninstall targets. There should be the documentation in the same archive. I am sure it's not material since I change the device and since all the problems disapeared when udftools is uninstalled. On Sat, 2007-06-09 at 01:55 -0500, Sukant Hajra wrote: Package: ion3 Version: 20070506-2 Severity: normal There's a new upstream release that Tuomo claims solves a problem that I'm experiencing in 3rc-20070506. You should have filed a separate bug for that. However I have just noticed this behaviour myself so I know just what you're talking about. I will be busy with DebConf preparations this week but will probably find some time to update the package. What path? Where I can find this path? bin/xgridfit and bin/xgridfit-ttx need XSLT_DIR to be reset. Indeed. Cheers, Denis Moyogo Jacquerye

Bug#428131: apt-cacher flock on closed filehandle [patch]
Package: apt-cacher Version: 1.5.3 I'm getting these in my daily email: /etc/cron.daily/apt-cacher: flock() on closed filehandle $lck at /usr/share/apt-cacher/apt-cacher-cleanup.pl line 121. flock() on closed filehandle $lck at /usr/share/apt-cacher/apt-cacher-cleanup.pl line 123. This is because the lock file doesn't exist at 120 (which isn't caught). I wonder why the set/release_global_lock functions from apt-cacher-lib.pl are not used? It looks like they used to be: #define_global_lockfile($config{cache_dir}/exlock); But now it uses this instead: my $globlockfile=$config{cache_dir}/private/exlock; Though I'm not sure why the different path wasn't supplied if that's what was required (although if it's really a global lock, shouldn't it match other definitions (/usr/sbin/apt-cache uses $config{private_dir}/exlock). I've made this change and attached the patch. It seems to work for me (no errors), however I should point out that this install isn't live. Bug#425808: tips to resolve the bug
I've read part of the source code of liblber and the problem seems related to an invalid socket buffer (please don't take it for granted). int ber_sockbuf_ctrl( Sockbuf *sb, int opt, void *arg ) { Sockbuf_IO_Desc *p; int ret = 0; assert( sb != NULL ); assert( SOCKBUF_VALID( sb ) );this is the problem I've also used a sniffer to spy the LDAP connection and check the difference between success and failure. The conversation is exactly the same byte by byte ! At some point the client should start another request but the connection is suddently terminated by an RST packet from the client. (logic if we consider that the client does not exit cleanly) It should be interesting to notice that this failure point is not always located the same offset but always immediately after getting a correct and complete answer from the ldap server. I suppose this answer is complete and correct because it is exectly the same than in the success case. As a conclusion, if the same network dialog does not always produce the same result, this problem may be the consequences of a deeper problem such as a buffer overflow or a side effect of a function. I've read somewhere that somone running some redhat distro (yes, i'm very precise) has solved a similar problem by removing his rpm package and installing a newer version of nss_ldap from openldap.org I've checked openldap's changelog an found that they fixed some memory leak bugs but nothing directly related with this problem. Anyway it should be a good idea to make an (unofficial) openldap2.1.35 debian package for etch as it may solve this problem. If it solves the problem, it should be put in th etch repository very quickly. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#285321: DebBlue GRUB bootloader splashimage (Debian Bug#285321)
Hello Jaap, I'm going to include your GRUB splashimage in grub-splashimages Debian package. It was requested by you in BTS Bug#285321. All GRUB splashimages included in package have a copyright at the beginning of file (in C99 style comment). Could you include your copyright in this file? It be nice if you as the author include copyrights yourself and put update file at: http://debblue.debian.net/downloads/grub/grub-splash-debblue.xpm.gz Also please compress it with command (to achieve best compression ratio): gzip -v -9 --best file Than I will download updated file and put into package. Bug#428149: speech-dispatcher: Provide speech-dispatcher-ibmtts package
Package: speech-dispatcher Version: 0.6.2-3 Severity: wishlist Now that IBMTTS is actually available for end-users, it would be wonderful to provide a speech-dispatcher-ibmtts package along the lines of the recently added gnome-speech-{dectalk,ibmtts,swift} packages. A short summary of what I do in gnome-speech: Since proprietary headers are required to compile backend modules like ibmtts, we can build the necessary module files in a package postinst. A debconf question can be used to ask the user for the install location of the proprietary files. Such packages have to go into section: contrib, but they can be built from the same source package that resides in main. Then, a user who owns the required files to build such a backend module can simply apt-get install and have everything magically working, without having to patch the debian source packages (and deal with all the upgrade problems). A package upgrade will simply trigger a recompile of the module on the users machine. And should the user want to trigger a recompile because of some changes, they can do it with dpkg-reconfigure package-name. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.21-1-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages speech-dispatcher depends on: ii adduser 3.102 Add and remove users and groups ii libasound2 1.0.13-2ALSA library ii libaudio21.9-2 The Network Audio System (NAS). Package: maxima-emacs Version: 5.10.0-6 Severity: normal Hi, maxima-emacs depends on tetex-extra | texlive, and this is wrong. texlive is a meta package that depends on a *lot* of packages (all -lang packages), which are obviously not needed for maxima-emacs. Bug#428159: mantis: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates review
Package: mantis Severity: normal Tags: patch Dear Debian maintainer, On Monday, May 28, 2007, I notified you of the beginning of a review process concerning debconf templates for mantis. The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates, and the proposed changes are attached to this bug report. Please review the suggested changes are suggested, and if you have any objections, let me know in the next 3 days. Please try to avoid uploading mantis with these changes right now. The second phase of this process will begin on Tuesday, June 12, 2007, when I will coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates. The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will receive an updated PO file for their language. Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to the debian-i18n mailing list. Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with. The call for translation updates and new translations will run until Sunday, June 24, 2007. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed or changed debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of course, other changes are safe. On Monday, June 25, 2007, I will contact you again and will send a final patch summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates, updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations). Again, thanks for your attention and cooperation. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-4-686 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=en_US (charmap=ISO-8859-1) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash -- Kevin Coyner GnuPG key: 1024D/8CE11941 --- /home/kevin/debian/smith/mantis/mantis.old/debian/templates 2007-05-28 10:01:17.0 -0400 +++ /home/kevin/debian/smith/mantis/mantis/debian/templates 2007-06-09 09:42:38.0 -0400 @@ -1,39 +1,48 @@ + Template: mantis/admin Type: string Default: [EMAIL PROTECTED] -_Description: Email address of the Mantis Administrator: - This is mainly prompted to the user in case of errors that might - require the intervention of the system administrator. +_Description: Mantis administrator e-mail address: + Please enter the e-mail address of the administrator who will troubleshoot + user reported errors. Bug#383679: What the status of this bug?

Bug#416180: vpnc: disabling dead peer detection working but not the default
Package: vpnc Version: 0.4.0-3 Followup-For: Bug #416180 With the sync of SVN revision 174, disabling dead peer detection seems to fix the problems people were having, but the option has to be fed to either vpnc or vpnc-connect manually, which is unexpected for a lot of people most likely when 0.3.3 just worked. I'm not sure if forcing dpd to 0 by default would be acceptable. I would say it is acceptable if more people are having problems than not with the inclusion of this feature. Anyway, for people like Tobias who are still having problems, issuing: vpnc-connect --dpd-idle 0 yourconfig.conf should revert 0.4.0 back to the behavior of 0.3.3, more or less. It's just something people will have to be aware of about vpnc from now on if the default behavior is going to be to keep dpd enabled. But obviously there are plenty of Cisco boxes in the wild which are reporting dpd capability and, unless it's a bug in vpnc itself, don't seem to implement the functionality correctly. -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.21.3 (SMP w/2 CPU cores; PREEMPT) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages vpnc depends on: ii libc6 2.5-10 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libgcrypt11 1.2.4-2LGPL Crypto library - runtime libr vpnc recommends no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#157355: sysvinit is not the proper place to fix this
tags 157355 wontfix severity 157355 wishlist thanks The hard truth about this bug is that the only way to really fix it is in the kernel, and that means adding an UPS shutdown handler to the kernel and calling it just before the ACPI/APM poweroff call, now that the kernel is learning to sync and spin down disks by itself. If the UPS can do delayed shutdown, use that. If it cannot, write a kernel driver. We have suffered enough in sysvinit halt(8) trying to work around such problems, and the result was that only NOW in 2007 the kernel is learning to actually do what it should for disks. So let's not make the same error again. Since this bug is stale anyway, it is best to just mark it wontfix and be done with it. -- One disk to rule them all, One disk to find them.
