Bug#219242: use of commun functions names

2007-06-09 Thread Christian Perrier
I rebuilt samba with the attached patch, and the number of symbols
exported by libsmbclient went down from more than 4000 to 51.
The patch adds a version script for this lib, which only exports symbols
matching smbc_*. I added tentative detection code for the configure
script, which checks the version of GNU ld. As far as I know, support
for this was added for GNU ld 2.12 (or at least, that's what libtool.m4
seems to check), released in 2002.
I'll attach a complete debdiff, and the actual patch I dropped in
 debian/patches.

That's definitely a big improvement even if I'm completely unable to
understand a single line (everybody knows how dumb I am).

Who takes care to report this to samba-technical (assuming the patch
is correct, which I'm blindly doing)? That probably needs being able
to talk about the details with the Samba Team, which excludes me..:-)

Steve? Julien? Or is Jerry listening enough? :)

I have this as well, with both my Option 3G Datacard, and a borrowed
Novatel 740. After killing the PPP connection, the virtual USB serial
port simulated by the card is not responsive any more, AT commands are
  ignored.

Marc, can you tell us several things:

 1) Is at port responsive to AT commands before you kill the ppp
 connection, but after it hangs?

I don't know, since I need to kill the ppp connection to get access to
the serial port, needn't I?

Mine is. After I kill the connection, I can just start a new
connection, and it works, I don't have to unload usbserial, nor
unplug the card. So things seem to be a bit different then in your
case. What kernel and pppd version are you running?

I am usually running a fresh vanilla kernel and a rather current sid.
I moved into a new apartment without broadband and had to use UMTS
quite often since May 12 through June 5, when broadband was finally
installed. The issue was present during the entire period.

 2) How often, after how much time of the connection running it usually
 happens?

Irregular intervals. Sometimes the connection is stable for hours,
sometimes it dies after a few minutes. I also doubt that it is
depending on traffic volume transported.

I have now two Option cards running: one is like this:

 ATI
 Manufacturer: Option N.V.
 Model: GlobeTrotter Fusion
 Revision: 2.9.4 (Date: May 12 2005, Time: 10:55:21)

(run ATI in minicom or picocom to see yours).

ATI
Manufacturer: Option Wireless Technology
Model: 129
Revision: 3.1.2 (Date: Mar 08 2004, Time: 11:54:30)

I used ser2net ;)

and has the first two letters of the serial number RC.
 See http://www.pharscape.org/content/view/40/53/

CL here. That link is a rather nice resource.

I have returned the novatel card to my company who was nice enough to
provide me with a SIM and PCMCIA card to use during my broadband-less
time.

And this card uses usbserial. On this card it hangs very rarely, I have
been able to run it 7 days without a hang. And recently I had it hang,
but after I waited some hours it did unhang.

I never waited that long, when the connection hang, I only waited a
couple of minutes and then proceeded to reset.

and currently I upgraded the firmware to:

 Revision: 3.19.0Hd (Date: May 31 2006, Time: 15:49:25)

Can I upgrade card firmware without Windows?

The longest noted time I was able to run this card on Debian without a
 hang so far is:

 Connect time 1676.6 minutes. (that's 27h 56min 36s)
Sent 2459600 bytes, received 17972064 bytes.

My personal record is 2219 minutes.

Greetings
Marc

No, you don't. You get 3 or 4 serial ports named /dev/ttyUSB0 to
/dev/ttyUSB2 or /dev/ttyUSB3 and on the /dev/ttyUSB2 port you can run AT
commands while beeing connected on port /dev/ttyUSB0 with ppp without
killing it. But if you disconnect your terminal from /dev/ttyUSB2 the
ppp connection will hangup (some bug), so a workaround is to first run
statserial on /dev/ttyUSB2, and keep it running all the time. Then you
can connect and disconnect a terminal from /dev/ttyUSB2 and ppp will
not hangup, until you don't stop statserial. Its available in Debian in
a package 'statserial'.

  Revision: 3.19.0Hd (Date: May 31 2006, Time: 15:49:25)

Can I upgrade card firmware without Windows?

No. At least not currently, until someone writes a firmware upgrade
program for GNU/Linux.

I searched a bit, and I now suspect that tha hangs might be because of
this bug: http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6402
They write that in vanilla kernel 2.6.15.7 it is fine, and the bug was
introduced in some later version, so now I am compiling 2.6.15.7 to see
if it'll fix it. You may try the same, your card is different hardware.
If you do try, tell me if it fixed it or not.

Bug#428118: ion3: New upstream release (ion-3rc-20070608)

2007-06-09 Thread Sukant Hajra
Package: ion3
Version: 20070506-2
Severity: normal

There's a new upstream release that Tuomo claims solves a problem that
I'm experiencing in 3rc-20070506. I haven't compiled his version yet to
prove that it's really the solution, though.

Because there's ultimately a problem with this current version, that's
why I've left the priority at normal.

Here's the problem. Detached floating windows don't have the correct
sloppy focus. Instead, they are behaving like the scratchpad and
hording the focus. Ultimately, it's very difficult with key strokes to
get from a floating window to another frame.

Bug#423944: /usr/bin/inetutils-telnet: Complains about ~/.shishi/tickets and creates ~/.shishi, for all connections

When using telnet for any connection, including those not involving Kerberos
in any way, telnet complains that ~/.shishi/tickets does not exist, and
 creates ~/.shishi .
The dot directory is created from inside libshishi, in
 lib/init.c (maybe_install_usercfg), I don't think it should be created
from there. For the warning, that's useful information so that users
can diagnose why shishi is not working if there's missing files, but
probably would make sense to disable the output if not asked for,
like in verbose mode or similar.

There may be multiple problems, that can have different solutions,
 here. For example:

 * It seems that 'telnet' might not need to initialize Shishi at all,
unless it will use a Kerberos connection.

 * The complaint is printed.

 * The directory is created.

Sounds like an accurate summary of the problems.

I will look into if it is simple to make inetutils defer the call to
shishi_init until Kerberos is definitely needed.

Excellent.

Thoughts on the other problems appreciated.

Maybe the directory should simply be created, with no warning?

That seems fine if shishi_init only gets called when using Kerberos.

Bug#427703: Please support an encrypt-to-self option in ~/.gnupg/gpg.conf

2007-06-09 Thread Josh Triplett
Werner Koch wrote:

It does work fine, though, if you have only one private key.

And as long as you don't accidently import another secret key.

True.

I'd like to share gpg.conf between machines; apart from the key IDs, it
seems entirely non-machine-specific. gpg doesn't seem to support any
configuration file include mechanism that I could use to split
configuration files. Do you have any other suggestion on how to make
 gpg.conf non-key-specific?

Using an environment variable for the default key? We would need to
implement this. And then also your suggestion ;-)

That sounds like an interesting option to solve the split configuration
problem. That would allow me to share gpg.conf, and put the default key
ID in a machine-specific environment file (which I will probably need
anyway).

One other, somewhat more elegant possibility: how about allowing a list of key
IDs for default-key, and selecting as the default key the first one with a
private key available? That would allow a single configuration that said If
I have my secure private key, use that, otherwise use my somewhat-secure work
key.

encrypt-to-self would become even more important in this situation: it would
tell gpg to encrypt to whichever key it uses as the default key.

Please file a bug report at bugs.gnupg.org if you really want that.

Done. Issue 806 suggests accepting a list of key IDs for default-key, and
issue 807 suggests the encrypt-to-self option.

Thanks,
Josh Triplett

Bug#428122: gnome-power-manager: Does not turn screen off when the kernel has APM support

2007-06-09 Thread Vincent Lönngren
Package: gnome-power-manager
Version: 2.18.3-1
Severity: normal

Here's a funny thing: when the kernel has APM support, gnome-power-manager
doesn't use dpms to suspend the screen, so
it remains in the ON state. When the kernel doesn't have APM support everything
works as it should. 'xset dpms force
off' turns the screen off regardless of the kernel capabilities.

Bug#219242: use of commun functions names

2007-06-09 Thread Steve Langasek

seems to check), released in 2002.
I'll attach a complete debdiff, and the actual patch I dropped in

That's definitely a big improvement even if I'm completely unable to
understand a single line (everybody knows how dumb I am).

Who takes care to report this to samba-technical (assuming the patch
is correct, which I'm blindly doing)? That probably needs being able
to talk about the details with the Samba Team, which excludes me..:-)

Steve? Julien? Or is Jerry listening enough? :)

I talked to Julien on IRC and mentioned that I thought it would be better to
put the version script under source/libsmb instead of directly under source.

Otherwise, the patch looks sane to me, and I don't have any reason to
disagree with Julien's check for a compatible version of ld.

Julien, let me know if you prefer me to advocate this patch upstream.

Bug#428125: 'man hdparm' hyperbole: DO NOT USE!!, Do NOT use this option., etc.

2007-06-09 Thread A. Costa

The following quotes, (rightly warning users lest hdparm wreak havoc),
seem angry and overstated:

At least line #239 contains an unless clause.

Lines #86 and #323 allude to forbidden program features. Any features
that ought not be used are better removed. These passages could have
written when their author, (offended by past user complaints), was too
busy to provide easy explanations, and thus opted for the man page
equivalent of a WET PAINT sign.

Good prose models might be found near other hazardous products:
poisons, guns, automobiles, prescription drugs, etc.

Probably 99.9% of users don't need those dangerous options; it
might be useful to move those to another OPTIONS sub-heading, following
the common options, the same way the present ATA Security Feature Set
options are separated. Call it kernel debugging options or
catastrophic options or something.

Hope this helps...

HttpUnit is similar in concept to httpunit but is very different in

Bug#427917: [Pkg-fonts-devel] Bug#427917: please cand you package/add xgridfit ?

2007-06-09 Thread Kęstutis Biliūnas
Pn, 2007 06 08 10:06 +0200, Denis Jacquerye rašė:

What does Debian fonts packaging team think about xgridfit?
Would this package be useful for Debian?

Yes, packaging xgridfit would be useful.
It is already required to generate Junicode with all the features.
Currently the ttf-junicode package lacks hinting.
 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ttf-junicode/+bug/117214
 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=428034
Other fonts like Old Standard also use xgridfit for hinting.
It is a great way to hint a font, it makes things a lot easier to
 work, read, and modify.

OK, I will try to do this package.

From what I understand a path in one of the scripts would need to be changed.

What path? Where I can find this path?

What is wrong with the upstream package regarding packaging?

The archive has no COPYING file or other allusion about the license.
Every executable script should have man pages. The scripts should print
the messages about the usage: xxx. It would be not bad that there were
Makefile with an install and uninstall targets. There should be the
documentation in the same archive.

Best wishes,

I changed my dvd device since there was weird errors, but it was the same thing

After tests I discovered that there is no problems if I remove udftools. I had
problems to read and
write and eject. For exemple: a dvd-rw seen has non readable with udftools
(even if I blank it full)
is readable and writable without it. I consider this has a BIG problem since it
tastes like a material problem.
I am sure it's not material since I change the device and since all the
problems disapeared when udftools is
uninstalled.

Bug#428118: ion3: New upstream release (ion-3rc-20070608)

There's a new upstream release that Tuomo claims solves a problem that
I'm experiencing in 3rc-20070506. I haven't compiled his version yet to
prove that it's really the solution, though.

Because there's ultimately a problem with this current version, that's
why I've left the priority at normal.

Here's the problem. Detached floating windows don't have the correct
sloppy focus. Instead, they are behaving like the scratchpad and
hording the focus. Ultimately, it's very difficult with key strokes to
get from a floating window to another frame.

You should have filed a separate bug for that. However I have just
noticed this behaviour myself so I know just what you're talking about.
I will be busy with DebConf preparations this week but will probably
find some time to update the package.

Ben.

Bug#427917: [Pkg-fonts-devel] Bug#427917: please cand you package/add xgridfit ?

What path? Where I can find this path?

bin/xgridfit and bin/xgridfit-ttx need XSLT_DIR to be reset.

Indeed.

Cheers,

Denis Moyogo Jacquerye

Bug#428131: apt-cacher flock on closed filehandle [patch]

2007-06-09 Thread Adrian Bridgett
Package: apt-cacher
Version: 1.5.3

I'm getting these in my daily email:

/etc/cron.daily/apt-cacher:
flock() on closed filehandle $lck at
/usr/share/apt-cacher/apt-cacher-cleanup.pl line 121.
flock() on closed filehandle $lck at
/usr/share/apt-cacher/apt-cacher-cleanup.pl line 123.

This is because the lock file doesn't exist at 120 (which isn't caught).

I wonder why the set/release_global_lock functions from
apt-cacher-lib.pl are not used? It looks like they used to be:

  #define_global_lockfile($config{cache_dir}/exlock);

But now it uses this instead:

my $globlockfile=$config{cache_dir}/private/exlock;

Though I'm not sure why the different path wasn't supplied if that's
what was required (although if it's really a global lock,
shouldn't it
match other definitions (/usr/sbin/apt-cache uses
$config{private_dir}/exlock).

I've made this change and attached the patch. It seems to work for me
(no errors), however I should point out that this install isn't live.

Yes, and it was noted in the changelog:

   * Drop the changes made to remove circular dependencies. (Reopens: #368485,
 closes: #415484, #412464)

Unfortunately, Reopens is not recognized.

(The change was made by my co-maintainer, but I don't agree hence I
reverted it. My take on the issue is that it is no problem at all, for
this package, that dpkg breaks the cycle wherever it wants, because none
of the packages need the other to be configured in order to successfully
 configure themselves.)

This particular circular dependency caused amarok to be removed during
Sarge to Etch upgrade test with both apt-get and aptitude. Circular
dependencies make resolution of conflicts much harder and less
predictable.

I have the very same problem. I don't know when it started, because I
haven't used the laptop for some months -- so it worked fine then, and
it doesn't now.

I'll answer now the questions that you asked the original submitter.

What desktop environment are you running (Gnome, KDE, Xfce)?

KDE.

Check the kpowersave configuration under General settings, which method
of screen locking do you use? Is it set to automatic? If you run KDE,
try to set it to kscreensaver.

It was set to KScreensaver; setting it to Auto makes no difference.

If you run KDE, make sure that kded is running.

It is (`ps aux | grep kded` shows it).

Is you screen not locked at all or simply too late, if so, it is very
 likely duplicate of
 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=406997

I don't think it's a duplicate. If it were, the screen would get locked
some seconds after coming from suspend, but it doesn't.

Please let me know if I can provide this information; this bug is very
annoying. :-(

Hi, I'd like for autoprofile (and obviously its associated binary

upstream comes around, but for now it does not belong in the archive.

Bug#427963: libgphoto2-2: version 2.3.1-5 fails to set permissions on when Canon IXUS V plugged in

Arthur Marsh wrote:

 I've rebuilt kernel 2.6.22-rc4 with CONFIG_USB_DEVICE_CLASS=y and

It appears that further work is needed on the udev rules for libgphoto2-2
in order for them to work with 2.6.22-rc4 and later kernels built that
 don't have CONFIG_USB_DEVICE_CLASS=y set.

Thanks so much for your investigation in this matter; hopefully that
option will be set by default http://lkml.org/lkml/2007/5/27/71 for
some time.

Nevertheless I will try to get working rules for 2.6.22 kernels
without that option before those kernels are released.

Bug#428137: [Martin Schwenke] [Bug 119415] wpa-conf managed appears no longer supported

Package: wpasupplicant
Version: 0.6.0~cvs20070224-3

I'm forwarding a bug from ubuntu here so that it doesn't get lost
somewhere. It seems that we also have this in debian.

---BeginMessage---
Public bug reported:

Package: wpasupplicant
Version: 0.5.7-0ubuntu2

In Edgy /usr/share/doc/wpasupplicant/README.modes.gz used to say to put:

  wpa-conf managed

in an /etc/network/interfaces stanza for an interfaces that were using
WPA managed mode.

However, in Feisty, doing this causes a failure... which is silent
depending on the configuration. Therefore, wpasupplicant can
mysteriously fail to start after an Edgy - Feisty upgrade.

I don't see this change documented anywhere (NEWS, changelog,
README.modes, ...) and the section on Hidden ssids in the above
README still has a reference to this configuration option. So, I
guess it is a documentation bug...

Even though I hit this for the 2nd time it still took a while to work
it out... :-)

peace happiness,
martin

Both is probably related to indirect software rendering being used. Is
libgl1-mesa-dri installed? If so (or installing it doesn't help), please
provide the full xorg.conf and Xorg.0.log files.

Bug#425808: tips to resolve the bug

2007-06-09 Thread pierre colombier
I've read part of the source code of liblber and the problem seems related to
an invalid socket buffer (please don't take it for granted).

int ber_sockbuf_ctrl( Sockbuf *sb, int opt, void *arg )
{
Sockbuf_IO_Desc *p;
int ret = 0;
assert( sb != NULL );
assert( SOCKBUF_VALID( sb ) );this is the problem

I've also used a sniffer to spy the LDAP connection and check the difference
between success and failure.
The conversation is exactly the same byte by byte !
At some point the client should start another request but the connection is
suddently terminated by an RST packet from the client.
(logic if we consider that the client does not exit cleanly)
It should be interesting to notice that this failure point is not always
located the same offset but always immediately after getting a correct and
complete answer from the ldap server. I suppose this answer is complete and
correct because it is exectly the same than in the success case.
As a conclusion, if the same network dialog does not always produce the same
result, this problem may be the consequences of a deeper problem such as a
buffer overflow or a side effect of a function.

I've read somewhere that somone running some redhat distro (yes, i'm very
precise) has solved a similar problem by removing his rpm package and
installing a newer version of nss_ldap from openldap.org
I've checked openldap's changelog an found that they fixed some memory leak
bugs but nothing directly related with this problem. Anyway it should be a
good idea to make an (unofficial) openldap2.1.35 debian package for etch as
it may solve this problem.
If it solves the problem, it should be put in th etch repository very quickly.

Bug#428141: kontakt: When using IMAP as storage, kmail gets always started

2007-06-09 Thread Christian Hammers
Package: kontact
Version: 4:3.5.7-1
Severity: wishlist

Hello

I'd like to use IMAP as storage method for my vcard and ical files but
whenever I lookup something, kontact opens the kmail application.
True, it was called store on IMAP using kmail or so but yet, it would
be more user friendly if it would only take the kmail credentials but
not open the kmail application which then tries to fetch new mails which
interferes with my standard claws mail client.

It is deliberately disabled upstream because it is very good at eating peoples

Indeed :-)

Note that some other header files got cleaned up since I filed my bug
so the patch I sent might need an update.

It seems that now #include string.h is also needed to compile.

No joy with purge reinstall.

The problem here maybe resolved, hard to be sure.

I disabled all functional extensions, and re-enabled this didn't help.

Possibly removing the Tango theme did the trick.

Possibly it was data related.

Bug#428143: kdeprint: printing to IPP printer with password does not work

2007-06-09 Thread Niels Elgaard Larsen
Package: kdeprint
Version: 4:3.5.7-1
Severity: important

The Printer is a Samsun N2571 network printer.
Printing works fine with ipp http://192.168.1.10:631

But now the printer is visible from outside so I added a password:

I now set the URL to http://foo:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:631

I was able to print the test page, but printing something with e.g. kprinter
does not work. No errror. The job completes but nothing is printed.

Is tried using a Kubuntu 7.04 computer. Same problem. However printing from
firefox worked. I.e. I set up the printer in KDE, printing from KDE did not
work. Printing from non-kde programs worked.

Bug#285321: DebBlue GRUB bootloader splashimage (Debian Bug#285321)

2007-06-09 Thread Krzysztof Burghardt

Hello Jaap,

I'm going to include your GRUB splashimage in grub-splashimages Debian
package. It was requested by you in BTS Bug#285321.

All GRUB splashimages included in package have a copyright at the
beginning of file (in C99 style comment).

Could you include your copyright in this file? It be nice if you as
the author include copyrights yourself and put update file at:
http://debblue.debian.net/downloads/grub/grub-splash-debblue.xpm.gz

Also please compress it with command (to achieve best compression ratio):
gzip -v -9 --best file

Than I will download updated file and put into package.

Thanks in advance,

Bug#428146: evolution: cycling forward through search results in message view does not work

2007-06-09 Thread Trevor Caira
Package: evolution
Version: 2.10.2-1
Severity: normal

When viewing a message either inline in the main view or in a separate
window, it is possible to find the first result of a search in the
message, and it is possible to see the total number of matches, and the
previous button lets you cycle through the matches backwards, but the
next button doesn't cycle forward through search results. Instead it has
no effect.

Bug#428147: ITP: hotwire -- Graphical, terminal-oriented shell for GNOME

2007-06-09 Thread Josselin Mouette
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Josselin Mouette [EMAIL PROTECTED]

* Package name: hotwire
  Version : 0.556
Upstream Author : Colin Walters [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://submind.verbum.org/hotwire
* License : GPL
  Programming Lang: Python
Description : Graphical, terminal-oriented shell for GNOME

Hotwire is a primary replacement for gnome-terminal/xterm and for the
/bin/sh shell. Its innovative graphical user interface is oriented
 towards developers and system administrators.
 .
The interface is somewhere between Windows PowerShell and MacOS X
Automator, and integrates with the GNOME desktop (e.g. with the

True, it was called store on IMAP using kmail or so but yet, it would

interferes with my standard claws mail client.

Hi! Is the same behaviour shown if you try to run the kaddressbook and

Bug#428148: gxine crashes at startup with xserver-xorg-video-intel

2007-06-09 Thread Jos van Wolput

Package: gxine
Version: 0.5.11-2
Severity: important
System: debian unstable, kernel 2.6.20-1-686, Intel 855 chipset.

When starting gxine using xserver-xorg-video-i810 v. 2.0.0-1,
xserver-xorg-video-intel v. 2.0.0-1, it crashes
getting the following error from the X server:
---
The program 'gxine' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
(Details: serial 814 error_code 11 request_code 141 minor_code 19)

Using xserver-xorg-video-i810 v. 1.7.2-4 (testing) gxine works well.

Bug#428149: speech-dispatcher: Provide speech-dispatcher-ibmtts package

2007-06-09 Thread Mario Lang
Package: speech-dispatcher
Version: 0.6.2-3
Severity: wishlist

Now that IBMTTS is actually available for end-users, it would be wonderful
to provide a speech-dispatcher-ibmtts package along the lines
of the recently added gnome-speech-{dectalk,ibmtts,swift} packages.

A short summary of what I do in gnome-speech:
Since proprietary headers are required to compile backend modules like
ibmtts, we can build the necessary module files in a
package postinst. A debconf question can be used to ask
the user for the install location of the proprietary
files. Such packages have to go into section: contrib, but
they can be built from the same source package that resides in main.

Then, a user who owns the required files to build such a backend module
can simply apt-get install and have everything magically working,
without having to patch the debian source packages (and deal
with all the upgrade problems). A package upgrade will simply
trigger a recompile of the module on the users machine. And should
the user want to trigger a recompile because of some
changes, they can do it with dpkg-reconfigure package-name.

Bug#428157: mail-notification: Silently falls back to unencrypted connection: password sent in cleartext

2007-06-09 Thread Ted Percival
Package: mail-notification
Version: 4.0.dfsg.1-1+b1
Severity: important

mail-notification falls back to unencrypted connections even when the
user has configured a connection to use SSL/TLS. mail-notification will
send a user's password over an insecure connection and it can easily be
sniffed.

It should be clear to the user that SSL/TLS connections are not
possible and there should be no fallback to insecure connections.

This is somewhat related to bug #286672 (Can't use SSL/TLS).

Package: maxima-emacs

Hi,

maxima-emacs depends on tetex-extra | texlive, and this is wrong.
texlive is a meta package that depends on a *lot* of packages (all -lang
packages), which are obviously not needed for maxima-emacs.

You should find the exact texlive non-meta packages actually needed by
maxima-emacs and list them in the Depends line instead of texlive. If
unsure, you can ask on [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Thanks.

Bug#428159: mantis: [debconf_rewrite] Debconf templates review

2007-06-09 Thread Kevin Coyner
Package: mantis

Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Dear Debian maintainer,

On Monday, May 28, 2007, I notified you of the beginning of a review process
concerning debconf templates for mantis.

The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates,
and the proposed changes are attached to this bug report.

Please review the suggested changes are suggested, and if you have any
objections, let me know in the next 3 days.

Please try to avoid uploading mantis with these changes right now.

The second phase of this process will begin on Tuesday, June 12, 2007, when I
will
coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates.

The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will
receive an updated PO file for their language.

Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to
the debian-i18n mailing list.

Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as
individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug
reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with.

The call for translation updates and new translations will run until
Sunday, June 24, 2007. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed or changed
debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of
course, other changes are safe.

On Monday, June 25, 2007, I will contact you again and will send a final patch
summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates,
updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations).

Again, thanks for your attention and cooperation.

Bug#383679: What the status of this bug?

2007-06-09 Thread Matthias Jordan
Hi, folks.

I reported and fixed this bug almost a year ago. Now I'm wondering
why it hasn't been fixed meanwhile in the current Ubuntu version.

Greetings

Matthias

Bug#416180: vpnc: disabling dead peer detection working but not the default

2007-06-09 Thread Mark Nipper
Package: vpnc
Version: 0.4.0-3
Followup-For: Bug #416180

With the sync of SVN revision 174, disabling dead peer detection
seems to fix the problems people were having, but the option has to be
fed to either vpnc or vpnc-connect manually, which is unexpected for a
lot of people most likely when 0.3.3 just worked.

I'm not sure if forcing dpd to 0 by default would be acceptable.
I would say it is acceptable if more people are having problems than not
with the inclusion of this feature.

Anyway, for people like Tobias who are still having problems,
issuing:

vpnc-connect --dpd-idle 0 yourconfig.conf

should revert 0.4.0 back to the behavior of 0.3.3, more or less.

It's just something people will have to be aware of about vpnc
from now on if the default behavior is going to be to keep dpd enabled.
But obviously there are plenty of Cisco boxes in the wild which are
reporting dpd capability and, unless it's a bug in vpnc itself, don't
seem to implement the functionality correctly.

I saw you filed an ITP for libemf. How is the packaging going? I would
like to see that library in Debian since it is also needed for OOoLatex
which I might want to package soon.

Hi Martin,

Yes, it's almost done, it builds everything but I'm doing a separate
package for -dev and there's where I'm going right now but the rest
builds ok and install everything in this moment in only one package.

I will let you know when the package get done ;)

Bug#407224: kpowersave: does not lock screen

* Michael Biebl [Sat, 09 Jun 2007 14:10:19 +0200]:

I have the very same problem. I don't know when it started, because I
haven't used the laptop for some months -- so it worked fine then, and
  it doesn't now.

Oka, my fault. I was suspending with Fn+F4 (Thinkpad), which obviously
does not go through kpowersave. If I right double click on the kpowersave
systray icon and select Suspend from there, it works.

I'll try to figure out now what and where do I need to change to get it
back to how it was before; any insight appreciated. :)

Bug#428162: laptop-mode-tools: syntax errors if run as non-user

2007-06-09 Thread Tormod Volden
Package: laptop-mode-tools

This was reported in https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/77560 by Peter
Whittaker, who also wrote the attached patch.

If laptop_mode status is run by a non-root user, some commands fails
because of insufficient permissions and cause syntax errors in the
script. The patch checks for permissions and otherwise writes out a
warning.

introduced in some later version, so now I am compiling 2.6.15.7 to see
if it'll fix it. You may try the same, your card is different hardware.
If you do try, tell me if it fixed it or not.

I am reluctant to try a kernel that old on my personal notebook. I
have broadband again now, and do not use the UMTS card that often any
more.

Greetings
Marc

Bug#428162: laptop-mode-tools: upstream URL is wrong

2007-06-09 Thread Tormod Volden
Package: laptop-mode-tools
Version: 1.34-1
Followup-For: Bug #428162

I guess it isn't useful to make a debdiff, since the debian package is handled
by
upstream. Just wanted to add that the URL in debian/copyright is wrong.

Bug#157355: sysvinit is not the proper place to fix this

2007-06-09 Thread Henrique de Moraes Holschuh
tags 157355 wontfix
severity 157355 wishlist
thanks

The hard truth about this bug is that the only way to really fix it is in
the kernel, and that means adding an UPS shutdown handler to the kernel and
calling it just before the ACPI/APM poweroff call, now that the kernel is
learning to sync and spin down disks by itself.

If the UPS can do delayed shutdown, use that. If it cannot, write a kernel
driver. We have suffered enough in sysvinit halt(8) trying to work around
such problems, and the result was that only NOW in 2007 the kernel is
learning to actually do what it should for disks.

So let's not make the same error again. Since this bug is stale anyway,
it is best to just mark it wontfix and be done with it.

Bug#428166: zsnes exits at startup, can't create mcop directory

2007-06-09 Thread Rian Hunter
Package: zsnes
Version: 1.510-1

On debian lenny/sid (unstable) zsnes fails to start when invoked from the shell.

can't create mcop directory

I am not sure why zsnes is mucking around in .kde, especially since it doesn't
depend on any KDE packages. This seems to be a problem with other packages:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?t=394282

Doing the quick fix at the end of the thread fixes the problem:

$ mkdir /tmp/ksocket-$USER

This weird KDE dependency should probably be removed from the ZSNES upstream
source, My hunch is that it happens when ZSNES queries for the aRts output
sound driver. I haven't looked at the sources so I'm not sure if it's doing it
explicitly or if that code is in libSDL.

Bug#407261: closed by Josselin Mouette [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Bug#407261: On my wishlist for epiphany: a single search bar for all my smart bookmarks)

Am Samstag, den 02.06.2007, 08:12 + schrieb Debian Bug Tracking
System:
Making your wishes come true before you even formulate them is the GNOME
developer's job: this is already the case. No need for a new search box,
you can simply do it in the URL bar. Type your search terms, and a combo
box appears where you can choose your search engine.

Thanks for attending to my bug report.

Well, I already knew about this feature and it is not exactly the same
that I have been asking for. To make it short: I want the same damn
search bar that is in Firefox/Iceweasel. ;)

Maybe this could be realized as a plugin?

Cheers,
Fabian
