Bug#453937: hangs when probing (with x86emu on amd64) a radeonhd card
On Sun, 2007-12-02 at 19:41 +0100, Robert Millan wrote: I did a bit more testing. The result is that on either i386 or amd64, ddcprobe hangs if run whenever X is running (but not otherwise). Sounds like a firmware thread-safety bug. If you ask me, not sure what was all that big fuss about AMD allowing free drivers if these have to rely on propietary firmware. oh well... The drivers don't have to rely on the firmware, thanks to the non-NDA specs. Also, I'm not sure this really means it's a firmware issue - maybe the X server just holds some resource (e.g. the card ROM, as a guess) that ddcprobe needs to run? -- Earthling Michel Dänzer | http://tungstengraphics.com Libre software enthusiast | Debian, X and DRI developer

Bug#453935: aptitude: weird conflict resolution scoring
On Sun, Dec 02, 2007 at 08:20:43PM -0800, Daniel Burrows wrote: Yes, this is a funny side effect of how aptitude scores solutions. I can't be 100% sure, but I *think* there are two effects here: (a) A penalty of 40 points for downgrading the package (installing a non-default version) (b) A bonus of 70 points for advancing the resolver one step. Could we split the non-default version penalty -- ie. differentiate between installing a new, non-default version and downgrading an existing package? Of course, it won't help much if we can't set it above 70 points. /* Steinar */ -- Homepage: http://www.sesse.net/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. I'm unconvinced to say the least. The doc is accessible through the Help menu in XSane or the F1 key, so making xsane-doc a Suggests seems utterly wrong to me. If I were to split the doc out, I'd demote it to a Recommends to have it always installed. Moreover, XSane doesn't check for the help files availability before running the browser, so that would only confuse users. As far as space savings go, 1.8 MB isn't that much. Bug#326440: wx2.6-headers: wxPython headers not included in package
Hi Ron, thanks for the prompt response! On Saturday 01 December 2007 04:37, Ron wrote: The problem at present is not that there is any fundamental opposition to including them in the package, but rather that people did the work to make that possible, then upstream refused to include it. from what I have understood, this was the big solution which upstream refused or just did not show interest in. I propose to go for a medium or small solution first. So I'm not really sure what we can do about that, especially if even the people who need it find it preferable to use a local hack than to spend the time to fix it properly ... If you refer this to the Thuban developers (which I am a part of), there are many sensible and practical reasons to have a local hack first. One is timing: We need to deploy on Etch as well. So our strategy is to have something quick and then help to solve the problem in a better way for the long run. And we are investing _some_ time, as you can see by me responding to this issues, but note: we are depending on a fair number of upstream packages, for many we have suboptimal solutions and we cannot fix this at the root all the times as this would leave us with no time for our application as well. But given that 2.8 is still a moving target and will likely be obsoleted by 3.x before its problems are fixed, and that neither of those things may happen in time for the Lenny freeze, I am willing to listen to proposals and consider patches from people who seriously want to look into this again and have the time to implement and test it properly. Some suggested that a simple change in the Debian build files could make this file be installed. This seems a small solution given that upstream is less interested. In parallel we should bring the issue up with upstream again. I don't want to just move the 'fragile hack' from one package to another though, so this is going to require some genuine commitment from the people who need it to get it right and fix any trouble that shakes out. The small solution seems to be easy enough to port if wxPython changes, so it is less fragile then hack to the setup.py structure in Debian. It is possible to use get it right as blocker, but it also can make Debian less attractive. My time for Thuban development currently is very limited, so I just cannot look very deep into the problem. Your situation might be the same, but we share the same goal, making the wxPython package and thus Debian more attractive. Thanks for all the work you have done on this package! Bug#454132: findimagedupes -strange results when using fp database
package: findimagedupes version: 0.2-2 I'm trying to find dupes using -a mode (only compare files specified in commandline). It works well. However when I try to speed it up by creating the database, using -a -r --fp=file I get strange results. It finds a dupe, however it repeats the same result later again, and later again, many times. Other words, the dupe that has been already found, it reports later, during comparison of totally different files! All with width=32? The audiotestsrc never gave me crackling sound, only actual tunes, mostly deep bass parts, and only with width/depth set to 32, 16 works perfectly. The set volume doesn't make any difference, audio players that don't use gstreamer play the tunes perfectly. Then it would be nice if you could try on the commands that give crackling to set the buffer-time and latency-time properties of alsasink. You can do so by writing instead of alsasink alsasink buffer-time=20 latency-time=1 Try using higher values than these and please report if this makes any difference. How much higher do you want? I added two zeros to each of the numbers with no real change ... Also please try if using alsasink device=hw:0 or alsasink device=demix makes a difference. Doesn't change anything neither, sorry. Bug#453681:
Michael Meskes wrote: It's debatable which package is at fault, but it's definitely unacceptable to just reassign the bug without a single line of explanation. again, the current way is: a module source package works with l-m-e, or it doesn't. Assuming that Panthera didn't even check what's going on, here's the explanation: he did, and saw that it is not a fault in the conglomeration package, thus he reassigned it. Given that I see no reason to be able to override this variable I will patch the makefile in virtualbox-ose to not allow this. good. i'll see when you've uploaded it and schedule a new l-m-e upload automatically. would be nice if you can also look into #451116 too. -- Address:Daniel Baumann, Burgunderstrasse 3, CH-4562 Biberist Email: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Internet: http://people.panthera-systems.net/~daniel-baumann/ -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#454142: dbus-1-doc: Please provide devhelp integration
Package: dbus Version: 1.1.2-1 Severity: wishlist Tags: patch User: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Usertags: origin-ubuntu hardy ubuntu-patch Hello, Fedora's dbus package has an XSLT to generate a devhelp index for the dbus documentation. Sebastien recently integrated devhelp support into the ubuntu dbus package: * devhelp integration: - Add debian/doxygen_to_devhelp.xsl: XSLT from Fedora to generate a devhelp documentation index. - debian/patches/dbus-1.0.1-generate-xml-docs.patch: Enable generation of XML documentation (which will be turned into the devhelp index). - debian/rules: Build and clean the devhelp index. Add xsltproc build dependency for that. - debian/dbus-1-doc.install: Install the devhelp index, and shuffle files around so that devhelp finds them. - Add debian/dbus-1-doc.links: gtk-doc symlink. I forwarded the XSLT to https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13495. This sounds interesting for Debian as well. Please consider applying attached patch. Thank you! Bug#453681:
It's debatable which package is at fault, but it's definitely unacceptable to just reassign the bug without a single line of explanation. Assuming that Panthera didn't even check what's going on, here's the explanation: linux-modules-extra calls make inside virtualbox-ose-source with a commandline setting of MODULE=virtualbox-ose, at least it appears it does. I wasn't able to find any docs about the way linux-modules-extra works. Anyway, the makefile uses the variable MODULE to refer to vboxdrv, the correct module name, but this is overriden by the commandline option. Thus the module gets the wrong name. Given that I see no reason to be able to override this variable I will patch the makefile in virtualbox-ose to not allow this. But I do not see a reason for linux-modules-extra to act this way. Perhaps the alias causes an error because the shell isn't interactive, but I don't think it would be used in Xsession itself. I just enter the desired IP an hit 'Dial' which results in '503 Service Unavailable'. In the log i find that twinkle contacts the IP 81.169.145.87:5060, no matter what IP i selected. UserProfile/SIPServer/Registrar is empty and 'Register at startup' is off. 'Use Outbound Proxy' is off. NAT: 'NAT traversal not needed' is on. That unknown IP 81.169.145.87 must somewhere being hardcoded... I don't want Twinkle to connect an unknown IP which can't be switched off. Do you? Apparently twinkle thinks 192.168.0.101 is a telephone number, not an IP address, and it got translated to 1921680101 and your domain name is appended resulting in [EMAIL PROTECTED] When sending the INVITE request to [EMAIL PROTECTED], twinkle looks up the IP address of openmediasystem.de, which is 81.169.145.87. sorry for that. I didn't expect twinkle works like that. of course i tried 'host 81.169.145.87' which lead to 'w87.rzone.de' which is absolutely unknown to me (it must be from my provider 'Strato'). i think, this bug can be closed. Is there a way to dial an IP directly without name? Or should I open a wishlist 'bug'?
