Bug#479457: krb5-kdc - init script disabled if /etc/krb5kdc/stash does not exist

2008-05-05 Thread Russ Allbery
Bastian Blank [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes:

 Package: krb5-kdc

 Severity: important

The krb5-kdc init script disables itself if /etc/krb5kdc/stash does not
exist. This file is not mandated to be available in any way.

Good point, and I even know people who run KDCs without a stash file. I
suppose I could switch to checking whether the database exists instead to
try to not start the KDC if nothing has been set up yet. Or just start it
anyway and let it produce errors every time it tries until someone sets up
a database, which probably isn't a horrible idea.

2008-05-05 Thread Timo Jyrinki

Source: enchant
Severity: wishlist

Hi. A new upstream version with lots of fixes and new features available
at http://www.abisource.com/downloads/enchant/1.4.1/enchant-1.4.1.tar.gz

More information at http://www.abisource.com/projects/enchant/

Please note that we should co-operate to remove libenchant-voikko from
tmispell-voikko source at the same time, since the new Enchant includes
the Voikko functionality by default now.

The krb5-kdc init script should allow arguments set in
/etc/default/krb5-kdc for the two daemons. Each multi-realm setup needs
to define the realms the kdc should supply on the commandline. See
 krb5kdc(8).

It does. Is this not working for you (apart from the problem that package
upgrades don't preserve that setting, which needs to be fixed)?

You can't set flags for krb524d, though. Hm. Although that's less used.

Bug#414140: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the chdrv package

2008-05-05 Thread Christian Perrier
Dear maintainer of chdrv and Debian translators,

Some days ago, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the chdrv Debian
package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation
update in the BTS.

I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload
for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization
bug as well as all other pending translations.

The package maintainer agreed for the NMU or did not respond in two
weeks, so I will proceed with the NMU.

The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail.

The package is currently translated to:
cs de es fr nl pt zh_CN zh_TW

Among these, the following translations are incomplete: none

If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get
ANOTHER mail with the translation to update.

Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations
for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report
against the chdrv package so I can incorporate them in the build.

The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Thursday, May 15,
2008. If you
are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS.

The POT file is attached to this mail.

If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU
and send him/her all updates I receive.

Otherwise the following will happen (or already has):

Thursday, April 24, 2008 : send the first intent to NMU notice to
 the package maintainer.
Monday, May 05, 2008 : send this notice
Thursday, May 15, 2008 : deadline for receiving translation updates
Friday, May 16, 2008 : build the package and upload it to DELAYED/2-day
send the NMU patch to the BTS
Sunday, May 18, 2008 : NMU uploaded to incoming

Thanks for your efforts and time.

It was my intention to be intrusive with this, because I felt that the
users needed to know about this requirement for the program to perform
well, both for themselves and others. From my previous experience with
DebTorrent, I find that many people overlook port forwarding,
especially since it seems like the program is performing fine without
it.

Can you suggest a better way to alert them? I don't want to abuse
anything, but README.Debian is unread by most users, and NEWS.Debian
is too unless apt-listchanges is installed (I think, even then it is
only mailed to root). In your experience, will a NEWS.Debian entry
reach most users?

Bug#476481: Bootability regression with Smart Array controller and grub 0.97-32

2008-05-05 Thread Matthew Hall
Robert,

Thanks for the quick reply... I am sorry I have not responded more
rapidly. On my system, once I install grub2 and run grub-mkdevicemap, a
blank device map file is generated. The problem persists when I use an
alternative map file (test.txt in ~) as well. I verified the version
with grub-mkdevicemap --version and it reported 1.96. Therefore I am
inclined to think the problem is also still present in grub2.

What else should I try next?

Bug#479494: python-ctypes: uninstallable due to libffi4 dependency

2008-05-05 Thread Mario 'BitKoenig' Holbe
Package: python-ctypes
Version: 1.0.2-4
Severity: serious

Hello,

currently, python-ctypes does not install due to it's dependency on
libffi4 which has intentionally stopped building by the gcc-maintainers
starting with gcc-4.3 (4.3.0-4) - see also #479115.
Could you please instead depend on libffi5.

Thanks for your work regards

dbus-x11 will be pulled by the other packages in desktop system, and it

(and not through 100 abstraction layers), which is mainly done by using the
dietlibc and libowfat libraries and by design considerations according to
Fefe's excellent howto. shish will be a POSIX compatible shell language
interpreter according to the IEEE P1003.2 Draft 11.2 by its 1.0 release.

Bug#479115: libffi4 is stopping the upgrade to gcc 4.3 4.3.0-4

2008-05-05 Thread A Mennucc
Package: libffi4
Version: 4.3.0-3
Followup-For: Bug #479115

hi

the original submitter of this bug marked it as wontfix.
But I think that this bug should be addressed somehow.

There are 25 packages that directly rdepend on libffi4, and removing
libffi4 has a huge usability impact on a 'unstable' install ...
thru all dependencies, you have to uninstall almost all of gnome.

I see two solutions to this lock.

1) Upload a new, separate version of libffi4 that would not
 depend on gcc-4.3-base (= 4.3.0-3)

2) BINNMU of all above 25 packages.
In this latter case, you must be sure that all bbuildds
 are running 4.3.0-4 - when I uploaded mplayer on2008-05-03,
this was not the case yet.
IN particular, I am worried: maybe there is some
 rdependecy that is stopping bbuildd's from upgrading to  4.3.0-4 ;
in that case, the only way to solve this lock is (1).

I wonder if the boot sequence is to blame. However I cannot check,

This is nothing specific to gdm, most packages with daemons behave this
way; you're welcome to question the default with the debhelper

Or maybe there should be a check to verify
that gdm is actually running before calling invoke-rc.d.

However we could check why stop is failing.

I think only Math1, Math2, Math4 are necesssary for MathML
but I might be wrong. I'm not so sure if math*{mb,m,b}__.ttf
are necessary or not for MathML.

Are you sure what fonts are really necessary for MathML?

I try to minimize the installed fonts because they are
non-free fonts but if I understand their necessity,
I certainly install the necessary fonts in addition to
the currently installed fonts.

Thanks for your reports.

Bug#280397: Reassigning bugs from libgnomecanvasmm2.0 to libgnomecanvasmm-2.6-1c2a

2008-05-05 Thread Lucas Nussbaum
reassign 280397 libgnomecanvasmm-2.6-1c2a

experimental. I am reassigning its bugs to the libgnomecanvasmm-2.6-1c2a
package. Please
have a look at them, and close them if they don't apply to
libgnomecanvasmm-2.6-1c2a anymore.

Bug#472673: setting package to bgoffice-dict-downloader, tagging 471956, tagging 472673, tagging 474633 ...

  #Unfuzzied Bulgarian translation

You can unfuzzy other translations, I think.

I did, after I included them :)

The workflow was like this:

Correct the typo in bg.po
Correct the typo in templates
Run debconf-updatepo, bg.po became fuzzy
Unfizzy bg.po
Comit the above change

for X in $new_translations_from_BTS; do
add $X.po to debian/po
run debconf-updatepo
unfuzzy $X.po
run deconf-updatepo again to see if it is all right
add changelog entry added $X translation, Thanks to $author, closes
$bug
commit
done

So it is my belief that translations that were done before the
.pot unfuzzying (and the call for translations) are unfuzzied.

If you find the opposite, I'd thankfully fix it.

Bug#445379: Status: python-jppy: module is linked to libpython

simply remove the -lpython2.x in the final link line.

Yeah, I misjudged. This is the issue: while jppy starts fine by
itself, the jpilot jppy plugin fails to load. When I start jpilot,
 I get told:

   Open failed on plugin [/usr/lib/jpilot/plugins/libjppy.so]
   error [/usr/lib/jpilot/plugins/libjppy.so: undefined symbol:
 PyExc_ImportError]

I am pretty much at a loss what is causing this and would appreciate
if any of you could fill me in. Otherwise I don't see a way how
I could continue to maintain jppy for Debian.

The jpilot plugin itself (in jppy-jpilot-plugins) needs to depend on
libpython, because it has to embed the interpreter. However the python
module (in python-jppy) should not, because it is loaded by the
interpreter itself (even when embedded in jpilot).

Bug#479427: epiphany-gecko: please reduce the number of dependencies by avoiding linking to some libs

Based on the build log of your package, there are some dependencies that
 could
be dropped if the binaries of your package were only linked to stuff it
really needs. This is possible to determine thanks to the symbols
dependencies system recently introduced in dpkg-dev.

It is often as easy as adding some extra LDFLAGS:
 LDFLAGS += -Wl,-z,defs,--as-needed

This is not as simple, because -Wl,--as-needed is stripped out by
libtool when building the plugins, so we also need to apply an extra
patch. See bug#347650 for the details.

Bug#476489: ucspi: should conflict with courier-mta

Hi Stefan,

the addcr programs from courier-mta and ucspi-tcp have nearly the same
functionality, it's just that courier's addcr doesn't add a \c if it's
already there.

Possible solutions to the conflict:
 (1) ucspi-tcp diverts courier's addcr
 (2) courier-mta diverts ucpsi-tcp's addcr
 (3) both packages use alternatives to manage /usr/bin/addcr
 (4) ucspi-tcp renames the addcr program (upstream or Debian)
 (5) courier-mta renames the add cr program (upstream or Debian)

I'm not that much in favor of (4), and personally suggest (2), as
courier's addcr includes 'more' functionality.

What do you think?

Thanks, Gerrit.

Backup your /etc/slurm-llnl for safety, remove the package, remove the
slurm user, then install the package again. This should allow you to
upgrade.

This problem will be solved in release 1.2.27-2, that will be probably
uploaded to unstable today. It will take some days before it will be
included in testing.

Please let me know if you succeed.

Bug#479473: debian-installer: DHCP client fails to assign address during install

reassign 479473 dhcp3-client-udeb 3.1.0-3

General comments:
* please make sure that your normal text has a decent line width even
when you disable line wrapping because of the log
* when you replace values in a log, please make that explicit; currently
one could think that the invalid xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx MAC address could
be the source of your issue, but I'm going to assume you replaced it

On Monday 05 May 2008, Jamie Thompson wrote:
Earlier, I tried setting up a new test system for some debugging of

However, I was unable to obtain an IP address via DHCP. My network uses
DHCP and works (and this install used it fine once it had completed), so I
do not believe that to be at fault. However, even after switching to
manually entering my netowrk details I was unable to download the releases
fie. I had to restart and enter my settings manually first time before I
could proceed with the installation, which was otherwise uneventful.

Here's the log of another attempt (it's 100% reproducable):
  May 4 23:22:21 dhclient: dhclient.c(2129): null pointer

I suspect that this is the root of your problem. Therefore reassigning to
the dhcp3-client package.

Andrew: a more complete log is available in the BR.

Bug#449158: Confirm for k3b 1.0.4

2008-05-05 Thread Heiner Markert
Hi,

I can confirm the problem with the grayed-out start button here on a lenny
machine. To trigger the bug, I have to do the following:
1) insert a CD (Audio or Data) in any of my drives
2) start k3b
3) select copy CD
4) The target-field states insert empty CD, and it is impossible to
select use source drive for burning, which I want to do.

In particular if the comptuer is equipped with only one drive, k3b also
prompts to insert an empty CD, which obviously is impossible because I would
have to remove the source CD first.

The following scenario works for me without errors:
1) start k3b
2) select copy CD
3) insert source CD
4) it now is possible to select use same device for burning.

Very annoying, as I use to insert the CD first, and if I did that mistake, I
have to close k3b, remove the cd, and appy the workaround.
Copying however works without issues once I have been able to start the
process.

Regards
Heiner

Bug#117484: phpgroupware-0.9.16-core-base: Dpkg seems to include triggers now

2008-05-05 Thread Olivier Berger
Package: phpgroupware-0.9.16-core-base
Version: 1:0.9.16.012+dfsg-4
Followup-For: Bug #117484

FYI, it seems that the triggers mechanism has been implemented in Dpkg, which
would address some of the discussions in bug #117484.

Btw, concerning the original complaint, phpGroupware keeps asking for mysql
root password at every upgrage, even though no DB operation may be needed.

This is of course suboptimal.

I'll try and investigate on a way to improve the situation.

Too bad previous maintainers didn't add bits of was to do so in the bug's
thread, if they ever had an idea how to improve that ;)

Thanks for your patience.

Bug#479512: samba: locks up when cups server unresponsive

2008-05-05 Thread Michal Suchanek
Package: samba
Version: 1:3.0.28a-2
Severity: important

The samba server always tries to connect to a cups server, even when
there are no printing shares, and load printers is set to no.

When this server does not respond (as it drops the packets) samba blocks
indefinitely trying to connect to the server failing to open its
listening sockets at all.

This is serious usability, and possibly security bug. The server fails
when another service that is not even required for proper operation
fails.

Thanks

Michal

 Hi,

There's a manual page for heartbeat in section 8 (system management

The binary appears to be shipped in /usr/lib/heartbeat/heartbeat,
but it should be in /usr/sbin or somewhere else in PATH.

 Please fix this. TIA.

Would a suitable fix be to remove the documentation?

I currently think that this is driving the magic too far. If one
decides to run bind chrooted, that one should also be able to modify

OK, it's clear.

I think is usefull to insert something like example:
- directly in commented lines into 31_aide_bind9:

#! /bin/bash
#
# # Automagically extract chroot directory
# . /etc/default/bind9
# set $OPTIONS
# for i in $@;do

in 2 parts like inn2 (cfr.: 30_inn2_vars and 31_aide_inn2) so the
commented part is the 30_bind9_vars script

- Introduce /usr/share/doc/aide-common/examples/30_bind9_vars:

done
#
# Manually set chroot directory
#BINDCHROOT=/var/cache/bind

In the aide 0.13.1-10 about the rule 31_aide_bind9 I thing that:
- is misleading the name BINDCHROOT, if initalized with the chroot
dir of bind9 don't work correctly. If is not defined BINDCHROOT
the rule 31_aide_bind9 work correctly and so is useless the
@@define BINDCHROOT /var
assignment. See the first example in the mail.
- the named.pid file is in /var/run/bind/run and not in the
/var/run/bind directory. See the binary named:
~# strings /usr/sbin/named|grep named\.pid
/var/run/bind/run/named.pid
- in the /etc/bind9/named.conf.options installation file of bind9
  there is the directive
directory /var/cache/bind;
  so is usefull to introduce:
@@{BINDCHROOT}/cache/bind VarFile
(I think is better: @@{BINDCHROOT}/var/cache/bind VarFile)

I hope that is usefull, thank you for your attention.

1. Regenerates the copyright hints.

3. Adds a proper check to detect cross building.

I hope you are able to use this patch to fix this RC bug.

Thanks for the patch.

Do you know of any documentation about that cross building handling - is
it it Debian Policy, some common best practice documented on the wiki or
just something you find nice yourself and believe doesn't hurt?

Bug#479152: ITP: core -- Jane Street Capital's alternative standard library for OCaml

2008-05-05 Thread Richard Jones

Given what Markus said:

Note that communication _among_ machines with different endianness,
assuming that they all have the same byte layout, should work, too,
with the current binary protocol. At least if you do not mix 32/64bit
 machines there...

I'm going to compile bin-prot for the other architectures anyway, just
as it is. I think I will punt on the problem of changing bin-prot to
do byte-swabbing to someone who is interested in this
inter-architecture case.

(But I'll document the shortcoming, of course).

Bug#476693: suphp-common denied access altogether

2008-05-05 Thread Christoph Lechleitner
I have the exact same problem on Ubuntu hardy with suphp-common
0.6.2-2ubuntu1 and I can confirm that ...

I've changed it to root:root and re-installed the latest packages and it
now PHP appears to work fine.

... chowning /var/www and any further intermediate directory from
www-data to root solves the problem.

Of course this is no real solution but merely a workaround. The user
configured as webserver_user in /etc/suphp/suphp.conf has to be allowed
as directory owner!

I guess the core bug is in the upstream, but suphp.org already is at 0.6.3.

Btw., why do all the su solutions (including suexec) always think they
know better what's good or bad than the admin?
My customer webserver uses ACLs and suexec and suphp to separate the
customers 100%, but I have to weaken suexec's code to make it work ;-))

Regards Christoph
