Bug#498459: libparams-check-perl: included with the Perl core
Package: libparams-check-perl Version: 0.26-2 Severity: serious Justification: unnecessary code duplication Params::Check has been integrated into the Perl core as of 5.10.0, and the separate libparams-check-perl package currently contains the same version as perl-modules. As perl-modules Provides:libparams-check-perl and there are no versioned dependencies on it in the archive, there's no reason to ship a separate libparams-check-perl package in lenny. Given the slow pace of upstream development, I don't think there's a real need for having this package at all anymore. Removing it from unstable is probably the best option. I'll file a separate report about that if nobody protests. -- Niko Tyni [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? We have defined dpkg-buildpackage to be the interface to build package and instead of changing once more the location of the logic we should rather modify dpkg-buildpackage to simplify calls to single targets (as already requested in #477916) and support properly all use cases. Bug#498469: Animation should also be exported to PDF and SWF
Package: openoffice.org-impress Version: 2.2.1-9~bpo40+1 Severity: wishlist Currently, animation in slides is not exported. All objects on the slides are shown immediately, even if the animation tells them to appear on one click and disappear on another. It would be nice if the animation would also be exported, i.e. if a user looks at the created pdf file in xpdf or in acrobat reader, the objects would appear and disappear on mouse clicks. One possibility would be to create several PDF pages out of one slide with animation, such that mouse clicks would just advance from one page to another. An example with animation in the odp and the generated pdf is attached. I wish that the behaviour of the generated PDF is as close to that of the original as possible. Best regards Sasha. You can check it at: http://svn.debian.org/viewsvn/pkg-ocaml-maint/trunk/packages/ergo/ Actually, I was waiting for the authors to correct some glitches in their tarball. Some of them have been fixed in 0.8. Other issues conern licencing. The COPYING file still referes to The ergo verifier but ergo doesn't exit anymore (Actually, it's a registered trademark). So, it should be The alt-ergo verifier. I prefer to check that more closely before upload ... even if it seems ridiculous. I updated the repository and made the built package available[1] for you. But the version 0.8 do not compile ... there is a missing file version.sh.in. I could live without it but still, the configure doesn't work properly without it. It will work perfectly if you do: ./configure || true But, as you can imagine, this will never happen in a package :) By the way, we are in freeze status ... I don't think I can upload it soon. Bug#497584: ITP: cosign -- Web single sign-on for intranets
On Wed, 2008-09-03 at 04:01 -0300, Martín Ferrari wrote: Description : Web single sign-on for intranets What's the difference between this and OpenId ? Why the focus on intranets? OpenId is decentralized and open. This is targeted to a diffrent public (from what I understand), and the authentication is handled by a single source. Single Point of Failure ? Cosign includes an Apache module for authentication in distributed applications, CGI scripts tmo handle logon/logoff and a session tracking daemon. Is this smartcard based or hot-desking via bluetooth or something? i.e. a system that logs you off when you leave your desk and logs you back in when you're back from lunch? ;-) hehehehe. No, it only maintains the logged-on/off state, but doesn't know about your culinary habits :) How would you re-phrase that? I'm still not quite sure I understand what cosign is trying to do - is it offering an alternative to the existing Apache authentication systems like .htaccess etc.? Some kind of frontend to other website authentication or some kind of cache that stores your username and password for next time? Does this only work with particular websites that have configured their authentication protocols to work with cosign (aka OpenID) or can it masquerade as the authentication protocol for unmodified websites, in which case it would seem to be at least storing the authentication details used by those websites. I've looked at http://weblogin.org/overview.html but I'm not sure I understand it. I'm confused about whether this is some kind of portal for use where internet access is charged / time-limited (like an internet cafe or hotel) or some kind of network filter that either blocks or allows traffic to certain websites. I'm also concerned about *why* a system would be configured to store the web logins of all users in a single location. Or is this some kind of keep-me-logged-in service like stay-alive or similar that keeps pinging the login to prevent timeouts? If it is trying to be something like OpenId for intranets, then it shouldn't get involved in the cookies themselves, the sites requesting authentication need to be modified to support the cosign method, without revealing the login details of the users. I can't work out whether it is doing that or not. The website is completely unhelpful in deciding what this package is trying to do and what problems it is either trying to solve or likely to generate. The wiki overview is just a rehash of the website overview that is no clearer, at least to me. I hope this package will come with some clear documentation. ;-) I'm confused about why users would want to trust cosign to keep all their weblogin usernames and passwords - unless those usernames and passwords are part of the same intranet that uses cosign at which point it would seem bizarre that to fix the various login problems of a variety of websites inside an intranet, the admin would add another login that knows all the login details of all the users. I can't help thinking that cosign is a solution looking for a problem. Maybe open this up to -devel where there are people with more experience of network-admin/authentication/intranet issues. -- Neil Williams = http://www.data-freedom.org/ http://www.nosoftwarepatents.com/ http://www.linux.codehelp.co.uk/ signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part

Yes, sorry I was looking at the latest CVS code and not the 0.95 release which the Debian packages are based upon. What is happening is that a VACUUM ANALYZE is being run on all tables, and of course the netdisco postgres user does not have permissions to do that on all tables. The new 0.96 code includes the fix for this. It seems I'll need to write an additional patch for the Debian package. I think it's safest to comment out the VACUUM ANALYZE nightly run - this is because on Debian systems there's an /etc/cron.d/postgresql-common which already does VACUUM ANALYSE on all databases every 5 hours. Bug#498478: network-manager: rely on deprecated CONFIG_WIRELESS_EXT_SYSFS kernel option for wireless cards
Package: network-manager Version: 0.6.6-2 Severity: important Hi, Since a few days, kernel maintainers have disabled the (uptream) deprecated kernel option CONFIG_WIRELESS_EXT_SYSFS (look at the current linux-image-2.6.27-rc5-amd64 in the Debian kernel team repo). When I use this kernel, my wireless card (Intel 4965 AG) is seen as a wired connection by network-manager (iwconfig or iwlist work perfectly). So, I think that network-manager rely on this deprecated kernel option to detect wireless cards. This will need to be fixed quickly after lenny (when the kernel team will upload 2.6.27 in sid) in order not to break network-manager for all wifi users [if my analyse if correct, of course] This bug does not concern lenny as CONFIG_WIRELESS_EXT_SYSFS is set in lenny's kernels. Bug#498475: Lenny-Ignore tag request for SNMP related bugs
Hi! I have just opened two bugs against libsmi-common and libsnmp-base: http://bugs.debian.org/498476 http://bugs.debian.org/498475 Those packages ship MIB files that are non-free (same license as IETF RFC). However, there is no quick fix: removing those files make the packages unusable, moving to non-free make a lot of important package (snmpd) move to contrib, etc. I think we should fix this issue after Lenny. Therefore, I would like to tag those bugs with lenny-ignore. Thanks. -- No fortunes found pgpTPIguZ39yq.pgp Description: PGP signature

Bug#491867: closed by Jonas Meurer [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Bug#491867: fixed in cryptsetup 2:1.0.6-4)
severity 491867 minor thanks So this will run mkswap on the resume device. AFAIK, this mkswap operation is run by /etc/init.d/cryptsetup-early which in turn is run by /sbin/init. Thus, this operation is only during a regular boot. It is not run during resume, since resume does not actually run init scripts. With only reading I come to the same conclusion. In particular, I could find no copy of the crypttab file in the initrd.img which hands over to the unfrozen system. Still this information has to be somewhere in the initrd, because otherwise the initrd would have no way to know what to decrypt. I guess the file is parsed and stored somewhere in conf/. What gives more evidence is that neither /usr/share/initramfs-tools mentions mkswap nor the initrd contains a copy. Has this fix actually caused a problem with any system? Actually no, I did not trash my system. I only verified that the swap signature does change and that the luks header is not properly destroyed. I then concluded under the false assumption that cryptsetup behaves consistent. So let me propose changing other things: * First of all it would be great if we could change man crypttab to reflect this behaviour like Run mkswap on the created device, but not before /sbin/init is run. or Run mkswap on the created device unless it is used for resuming. * Secondly in README.initramfs.gz according to my understanding step 6 should be useless, because step 4 already formated the device. A imho better approach would be to keep step 6 and never let cryptsetup invoke mkswap by removing that swap option if this change does not break the sequence in another way. I'd also be glad if README.initramfs.gz could be extended with more explanations on why and how this works, because the documentation of cryptsetup often made me read the source. Thanks for investigating this Helmut -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#498005: ccache: should not delete preprocessor output when -save-temps is passed to gcc
Hi Francois, Couple of quick comments: Let me explain why I encountered this problem. I wanted to feed the pre-processed source code to a tool and the easiest way to generate the pre-processor output was to use -save-temps while building it. However, I did not want to build multiple times (because I was changing a bunch of options, excluding some modules etc.), so I sticked ccache in. On 08/09/09 12:10 +1200, Francois Marier said ... I've had a quick look at this and it looks like ccache is swallowing that argument. I guess there's two ways we could fix that: 1- actually retain the argument 2- disable ccache caching when that argument is present I am not too sure about this, but don't you think going this way may be a bit counter-productive to ccache's usage? In particular, my use case above. The problem I see with option 1 is that it might involve caching these extra files too, which sounds like a bit of work patch-wise. Or rather, we don't delete the temporary pre-processor file. I did not look at the code too much but we shouldn't have to cache this file also. Option 2 is obviously the easy one. Wouldn't another option be to add a retain_i_file variable (default 0) and set it to 1 in case -save-temps is present? I don't know if this would be special casing too much, but we special case a lot of options in process_args already. I will try and submit a patch towards the weekend.
