Bug#502585: sshpass taking 100% CPU while the ssh session is running

2008-10-18 Thread Shachar Shemesh
Package: sshpass
Version: 1.01-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

When connecting using sshpass, sshpass takes 100% CPU during the
connection, until ssh exists. This makes package usage impractical for
any serious use.

Problem originally reported on the source forge bug tracking system by
an anonymous contributer.

Bug#487748: Announce of the upcoming NMU for the chdrv package

2008-10-18 Thread Christian Perrier
Dear maintainer of chdrv and Debian translators,

Some days ago, I sent a notice to the maintainer of the chdrv Debian
package, mentioning the status of at least one old po-debconf translation
update in the BTS.

I announced the intent to build and possibly upload a non-maintainer upload
for this package in order to fix this long-time pending localization
bug as well as all other pending translations.

The package maintainer agreed for the NMU or did not respond in two
weeks, so I will proceed with the NMU.

The full planned schedule is available at the end of this mail.

The package is currently translated to:
cs de es eu fi fr gl nl pt ru sv zh_CN zh_TW

Among these, the following translations are incomplete: none

If you did any of the, currently incomplete, translations you will get
ANOTHER mail with the translation to update.

Other translators also have the opportunity to create new translations
for this package. Once completed, please send them as a bug report
against the chdrv package so I can incorporate them in the build.

The deadline for receiving updates and new translations is Friday, October 24,
2008. If you
are not in time you can always send your translation to the BTS.

The POT file is attached to this mail.

If the maintainer objects to this process I will immediately abort my NMU
and send him/her all updates I receive.

Otherwise the following will happen (or already has):

Monday, October 13, 2008 : send the first intent to NMU notice to
 the package maintainer.
Saturday, October 18, 2008 : send this notice
Friday, October 24, 2008 : (midnight) deadline for receiving translation
updates
Saturday, October 25, 2008 : build the package and upload it to
DELAYED/2-day
send the NMU patch to the BTS
Monday, October 27, 2008 : NMU uploaded to incoming

Thanks for your efforts and time.

Bug#502586: gnome-settings-daemon: Should support using X DPI value rather than /desktop/gnome/font_rendering/dpi

2008-10-18 Thread Josh Triplett
Package: gnome-settings-daemon
Version: 2.22.2.1-1
Severity: normal

On almost all of my systems, X properly detects the size of the
display and calculates the DPI. For the few systems where it doesn't,
I've manually specified DisplaySize in /etc/X11/xorg.conf so that X
knows the correct DPI. However, gnome-settings-daemon ignores this
value, and instead uses the gconf key
/desktop/gnome/font_rendering/dpi to determine the DPI of the display
and size fonts appropriately. Thus, on all of my systems, *including*
those which correctly autodetect the DPI, I have to manually fix the
DPI in GNOME to get appropriately sized fonts. gnome-settings-daemon
should support using the DPI value from X, rather than overriding it.
Ideally it should do so by default so that it Just Works on many
systems, but I'll settle for an unbreak my DPI setting if I have to.

This bug report is not strictly speaking about localization.

It suggests improvements in the wording of debconf templates.

However, it appears on
http://i18n.debian.net/debian-l10n/l10n-nmu/nmu_bypackage.html while
this is not really a translation bug.

Hence retagging and retitling

Bug#502285: first upgrade fails, xserver-xorg-video-ati is removed

2008-10-18 Thread Sven Joachim
On 2008-10-15 11:22 +0200, Martin Michlmayr wrote:

 Package: upgrade-reports
 Severity: important

I upgraded my old laptop from etch to lenny. I followed the
instructions from d-d-a, i.e. I first upgraded dpkg, apt and aptitude
with aptitude and then did an aptitude dist-upgrade. The first
dist-upgrade I did upgraded a bunch of packages, but I think there
were also a lot of failures, so I did another dist-upgrade and that
 completed the upgrade.

Except that xserver-xorg-video-ati got removed during the upgrade and
 X failed to start.

 So there are two issues:
  1) the first dist-upgrade failing
  2) xserver-xorg-video-ati being removed.

It seems that aptitude suggests a suboptimal solution for the
dist-upgrade and if you let it try different ones, the result is
better. Here's my result from upgrading a small etch chroot with
xserver-org-core and its recommendations installed. Aptitude and dpkg
were already upgraded to the lenny version.

Bug#502589: ironpython: CSS not used when displaying tutorial

2008-10-18 Thread Jose Carlos Garcia Sogo
Package: ironpython
Version: 1.1.1-2
Severity: minor
Tags: patch

Hi,

When diplaying included IronPython tutorial, css file is not used.
The problem is that Tutorial.htm file points to ../Doc/IronPython.css while
that file is located at ../
IMHO, the best option is to patch Tutorial.htm to point to css file in the same
dir that itself and move IronPython.css file to Tutorial/ dir.

Thanks

 Hi all,

If you happen to still be running iceweasel 2.0.0.x because of our
failure to fix your problems, can you try to upgrade to the current
version in unstable (3.0.3-2) and verify that it still does crash.
Then please try running the following command:
 MOZILLA_DISABLE_PLUGINS=1 iceweasel

Please then report whether it still crashes or not.

Hi,
Unfortunately iceweasel still crashes with this parameter. Actually it
does not start, at all. Epiphany-gecko on the other hand segfaults.

Bug#502594: exaile: no daap support: daap plugin not showing up in plugin manager

*** exaile
Subject: exaile: no daap support: daap plugin not showing up in plugin manager
Package: exaile
Version: 0.2.11.1+debian-2
Severity: normal

I understand why exile package in debian is different from other distribution:
shipping with standard plugins and not allowing plugin download for security
reasons.
Anyway daap-plugin is included in /usr/lib/exaile/plugins but it's not showing
up in plugin manager so I cannot enable it and browse my mt-daap served music
library as I would with rhythmbox.
I read somewhere on the web that I should install python-avahi and python-daap
for this plugin to work so I installed these packages but daap-plugin doesn't
show up as well. Are these packages needed for this plugin to work? If so
shouldn't they be recommended at least?

Since I'm and xfce user and I don't like to install all that gnome stuff
rhythmbox depends on I'd really like daap integration to work in exaile.

Thanks.
Leonardo

Thanks. But is this actually useful in practice? Would you want a
self-created package on your system that has a Homepage? And would the

The self-created package is a metapackage and contains only dependencies.
It serves to make sure that all the HW support stuff and service support
packages which we want to run on a certain server are actually there.

The meta package itself lives in a Subversion and as such your question
about the the VCS- field is to the point. The utility of the Homepage
filed for that metapackage serves to point to the relevant Trac project,
where we track requirements, documentation, bugs of the server, the source
of the metapackage etc.

As such, yes, both fields are useful to us,

The numer of wakeups per second is lower than the cumulated per process

Top causes for wakeups:

Bug#502598: cryptsetup: passdev should be able to timeout when no device is found

2008-10-18 Thread Evgeni Golov
Package: cryptsetup
Version: 2:1.0.6-6
Severity: wishlist

Today I discovered in README.initramfs.gz that there is a new keyscript,
passdev.
It seems to be a really nice idea, but I think it misses an important option,
a timeout.

Currently I have an unencrypted / and LUKS-crypted /home and swap, the keyfile
for the later two is saved on an USB-stick. When I forget the USB-stick, I would
like to still be able to boot the box and enter a passphrase by hand (luksOpen).
This is not possible with passdev at the moment (I could ^C it, but that's not
userfriendly).

Could you implement a timout option?

Regards
Evgeni

Bug#502600: ntpd exits immediately if ntpdate is installed but lockfile-progs isn't

2008-10-18 Thread Peter J. Holzer
Package: ntp
Version: 1:4.2.4p4+dfsg-7
Severity: important

The ntpdate package contains a script /etc/network/if-up.d/ntpdate which
is executed whenever a network interface is brought up. During normal
startup, before this script finishes, /etc/rc*.d/S23ntpd is called. ntpd
is started, fails to bind to port 123 (because ntpdate is still running)
and immediately exits.

/etc/network/if-up.d/ntpdate and /etc/init.d/ntpd try to use a lock file
to prevent this - but this works only if lockfile-progs is installed,
which wasn't the case on my system.

I suggest that lockfile-progs is added to the dependencies of both ntpd
and ntpdate.

Should we reassign this to aptitude, or make sure the release notes
recommend apt-get for the upgrade instead of aptitude? Removing
a lot of packages that are perfectly installable doesn't seem like a
good choice...

No it shouldn't. We could check if the orig.tar.gz symlink points to the
tarball you passed to git-import-orig and stop otherwise. But we
shouldn't simply ignore the fact that there's a symlink already.
Pristine tar wants to use the orig.tar.gz and if that's different from
the tarball you passed things end up badly.

Mike, this is excellent news. Thakns for your effort!

Indeed iceweasel still crashes with the plugins but not when they are
  disabled with this command.

Hmm. Now this means that I have somehow overlooked a few plugins (and
I was sure I had removed them *all*).

That definitely sounds good news to me :) Could you try to investigate
which one is responsible for this, so that others could try to remove
 it, too ?

Well, it appears to have been the j2re1.4.2 from blackdown that was
linked to /etc/alternatives/mozilla-javaplugin.so that was linked to
 /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libjavaplugin.so

The strange thing is that normally, the blackdown package is j2re1.4,
and this package can't be installed at the same time as xulrunner-1.9,
since version 1.9.0.1-1.

I extracted the patch to fix this from the intltool subversion repo, and
I've attached it to this mail. The patch may need some minor
modification to work with 0.40.0 or even 0.40.3, as the line number may
have changed (but patch(1) may be intelligent enough to get this).
I guess this is too late for etch, though? Another option for
unstable/next stable (after lenny) would be to upgrade to 0.40.4, which
 has this fix included.

I believe this sort of fixes should go into lenny, if it needs to be a useful
 development platform.

Actually reviewing if having 0.40.3+patch or 0.40.4 is possible would be even
better, as there are other important bug fixes since 0.40.0.

I'll see what other team members say before we push things one way or another.

Bug#502607: apt-xapian-index: Weekly cron job fails after package removal

Package: apt-xapian-index
Version: 0.15
Severity: serious

I had the package installed as a dependency from goplay, so when I removed
goplay from my system, apt-xapian-index automatically got removed too.

Today I got a cron mail with:
run-parts: /etc/cron.weekly/apt-xapian-index exited with return code 1

The 'test -x' will return 1 if the command does not exist.
Better would be:

Bug#502609: gnome-power-manager: interfers with acpi-support scripts, should conflict with them

2008-10-18 Thread Stanislav Maslovski
Package: gnome-power-manager
Version: 2.22.1-3
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software

Currenly, gnome-power-manager badly interfers with acpi-support which
is installed by default by 'Laptop' task. In theory, this can
indroduce data loss, or even break hardware in some corner cases.

In practice, I see that setting screen backlight goes crazy and also
auto-switching HDD powersaving on and off (AC off/on) does not
work correctly in a configuration when both packages are installed.

I put breaks unrelated software as the justification of this bug
severity.

Bug#502598: cryptsetup: passdev should be able to timeout when no device is found

2008-10-18 Thread Evgeni Golov
tags 502598 patch
thanks

Hi again,

I hacked a timeout option, patch is attached.
passdev now accepts either dev:path or dev:path:timeout as argument and
will quit when the timeout is reached. Additionally one should set
tries=1 in the crypttab, as it does not make sense to try a keyfile 3
times.

Evgeni

While this is certainly something ugly that needs to be fixed, I don't
think it's time to promote these kind of bugs to release critical. These
bugs are in a lot of packages, but can be easily worked around by
purging the package instead of just removing it.

thanks

Hm, I have investiged the problem more and it seems I was wrong about
the reason of the behaviour I see. It seems that it is rather a bug in
gnome-power-manager daemon.

More information:
I have removed acpi-support and installed back gnome-power-manager.
This is what I see:

Pressing the backlight controllign buttons switches the light
intensity in large (like doubled) steps.

After AC was off and then on the HDD remains in powersaving mode
(hdparm -B 128. I hear the sound of parking HDD heads).

That's too blunt. It should at most rm -f the rc{0,6}.d symlinks
instead of completely stomping over any customizations the admin might
 have done.

Hey Martin,

I just noticed acpid applied a similar patch (#495544) which was a product of
the TearDown work, and it also didn't handle the upgrade path (#502613, CC'd).

What's the best way to proceed here to get these TearDown patches to make
change on upgrade too before too many patches get applied in Debian that do
not take care of it?

I didn't get a reply from my last mail to Michael about how hal package plans
to fix it, is the current best method to do a:

if dpkg --compare-versions $installed lt-nl $version; then
rm -f /etc/rc[06].d/K??$script
fi

?

If possible I would like to supply good working patches to bug reports which
add the ability to handle upgrade path when dropping runlevel links, so we
need an agreement on what that method is, and apply it to all similar
situations.

Thanks, Kel.

Bug#502614: mixxx: New upstream version

2008-10-18 Thread LENHOF Jean-Yves
Subject: mixxx: New upstream version
Package: mixxx
Version: 1.6.0~beta3-2
Severity: wishlist

Version 1.6.1 could fix an annoying bug I have with the waveform in
version 1.6.0 when I drag and drop an mp3 file on it. (Not each time)

In the release notes there's Fixed a problem where the waveform view
went unresponsive

Could you package it ?

Is it also possible to push this 1.6.1 release on lenny ? (For version
1.6.0 I've already installed it on a lenny desktop without hitch just by
downloading the deb files. Just letting a beta version in lenny isn't
good I think).

Subject: [PATCH] agp: Fix stolen memory counting on G4X.

On the GM45, the amount of stolen memory mapped to the GTT was underestimated,
even though we had 508KB more available since the GTT doesn't take from
stolen memory. On the non-GM45 G4X, we overestimated how much stolen was
mapped to the GTT by 4KB, resulting in GPU page faults when that page was
accessed.

This update requires a corresponding update to xf86-video-intel to work
correctly.

This is documented in the README. You have to have separate apt-cachers
for each distribution as (although the files have the same name) they
are not identical.

Should we reassign this to aptitude, or make sure the release notes
recommend apt-get for the upgrade instead of aptitude? Removing
a lot of packages that are perfectly installable doesn't seem like a
 good choice...

I've reassigned the bug to aptitude for investigation why aptitude
thinks that xserver-xorg-video-all is broken and the individual drivers
are not installable. This seems to affect many systems, see also
#501518 and #501546.

Bug#487110: Packaging of the current git master

2008-10-18 Thread Alexandros Konstantinakis - Karmis

version 1.2.3 was released a few days ago

http://gitweb.freedesktop.org/?p=xorg/driver/xf86-video-radeonhd;a=commit;h=57aca005c1ede5495f326a98c411d049115cb845

it seems to fix a lot of reported bugs and also offers support for Xv.
Xv support is the only reason a lot of ati card users (including myself)
are still using the proprietary driver. For this to work, the driver
would have to be compiled with Direct Rendering (DRI) enabled. 1.2.3
also supports more (mostly newer) radeon cards than 1.2.1.

for the aforementioned reasons i think packaging version 1.2.3 and
pushing it to experimental would be a good idea and i would be more than
happy to try it out and report back.

thank you

2008-10-18 Thread Josh Triplett
Package: mutt
Version: 1.5.18-4
Severity: normal

I use gpg-agent on my system. However, Mutt still attempts to prompt
for a passphrase by default, rather than allowing gpg to use
gpg-agent. In order to make mutt use gpg-agent, I have to set the
option pgp_use_gpg_agent, which seems very much like an unbreak me
option. Mutt should either let gpg handle either using an agent or
prompting for a passphrase, or it should detect the presence of the
GPG_AGENT_INFO environment variable and automatically support
gpg-agent if present.

Bug#502566: debsums: [INTL:pt] Updated Portuguese translation for debconf messages

Hi François.
No problem :)
I've send it to the Portuguese Translation Team to be reviewed. It
should be available still today.

2008/10/18 Francois Marier [EMAIL PROTECTED]:
 Hi Carlos,

Thanks for the updates to the Portugese translation.

I have added it to the next version of debsums.

However, there are two fuzzy strings left in that translation. Would it be
possible for you to have a look and change them if necessary?

(I have attached the latest version of your translation)

 Thanks again!

 Francois

That's too blunt. It should at most rm -f the rc{0,6}.d symlinks
instead of completely stomping over any customizations the admin might
 have done.

 Hey Martin,

I just noticed acpid applied a similar patch (#495544) which was a product of
the TearDown work, and it also didn't handle the upgrade path (#502613, CC'd).

What's the best way to proceed here to get these TearDown patches to make
change on upgrade too before too many patches get applied in Debian that do
 not take care of it?

I didn't get a reply from my last mail to Michael about how hal package plans
to fix it, is the current best method to do a:

 if dpkg --compare-versions $installed lt-nl $version; then
   rm -f /etc/rc[06].d/K??$script
 fi

 ?

This would work for insserv and sysv-rc, but not file-rc (but I don't
care too much about file-rc, tbh. And the popcon stats of file-rc do not
justify any special treatment of file-rc imho).
It also doesn't take into account any local modifications to the stop
priorities (when using sysv-rc alone). We are thus not 100% policy
compliant, but I think we can ignore that in that special case.

The major complain I got on debian-release (when we discussed the same
topic for avahi-daemon) was, that the update-rc.d remove approach
didn't preserve disabled services, which the above method would do (i.e.
services which were disabled before the upgrade were enabled again
afterwards).

So in summary, I think the suggested method above would indeed be the
best we can do atm.

Cheers,
Michael

Bug#495897: iceweasel: Set as desktop background dialog throws exception

 nsresult: 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE)  location: JS frame ::
 chrome://browser/content/setDesktopBackground.js :: anonymous :: line 56
 data: no]

The reason for this exception is interesting:
The mozilla gnome shell service handles 3 and 6 digits long colors (such as
#ccc or #c0c0c0), but it appears that, at least on my desktop, the value
is longer than that:
  $ gconftool --get /desktop/gnome/background/primary_color
  #767684848f8f

The exception prevents the rest of setDesktopBackground.js to run, which
explains the dialog doesn't work properly.

If I change the /desktop/gnome/background/primary_color key to be of
expected length, the dialog works again (except that the default picked
color is apparently wrong, but I haven't checked if it was intended).

All in all, this looks like something else did set a b0rked
primary_color. After some tries, it looks like
gnome-appearance-properties is responsible for this.

pkg-gnome people, is that intended, or is that a bug?

Mike

I think current README is too weak to mention device name change from

documented in:

This is documented in http://grub.enbug.org/grub.cfg as

GRUB 2 uses new bashish scripting language that is used to build menus.
At startup file grub.cfg will be read and executed.

Please note that partition numbering has been changed to start from 1

The hanging process still happens once in a while, but always when
there is no time for in-depth debugging and a quick reboot fixes the
issue then. Unfortunately, the LKML only gave profiling advice which I
cannot follow due to unfamiliarity with the required tools and no time
to get acquainted with them.

Greetings
Marc

Bug#502624: cups-pdf: Test page from web interface should use real user instead of 'anonymous'

2008-10-18 Thread root
Package: cups-pdf
Version: 2.4.8-3
Severity: normal

Otherwise one can't print a test page when 'anonymous' is disabled in
cups-pdf configuraiton file. Moreover, no errors are reported either
in web interface or log files in this case.

Looking at the completed jobs I conclude that Etch version used real
users to print test pages. So, this sudden change after upgrade to Lenny
confused me while I was trying to locate the printed test page in ~/PDF
folder.

Bug#446766: Update

Reopening as i am still planning to finish this package.

upstream SVN has had some reworking and updating to qt4 instead of qt3
which makes this package far more viable

Will hope to get this finished off in the next few weeks

Bug#502626: logstalgia is too picky about the logfile format

2008-10-18 Thread Daniel Friesel
Package: logstalgia
Version: 0.9.1-2
Severity: important

logstalgia seems to assume that the logfile's second field (the hostname) is
always empty (-) and cannot handle lines which actually have a hostname there.
In most cases, these lines are simply ignored, yet if all lines in the logfile
are formed like this logstalgia fails with 'error: could not parse first entry'.

Expample: This line would be ignored / cause it to fail:
fda2:4f37:25d7:df0::7 wiki.skyshaper.org - [18/Oct/2008:13:36:50 +0200] GET /
HTTP/1.1 304 0 - Opera/9.52 (X11; Linux i686; U; en)

While this would be accepted:
fda2:4f37:25d7:df0::7 - - [18/Oct/2008:13:36:50 +0200] GET / HTTP/1.1 304 0
- Opera/9.52 (X11; Linux i686; U; en)

logstalgia should also parse lines containing a hostname.

Thet GUI appears for about a second, displays a reloading lvm status bar and
then
crashes. Starting from the menu item appears similar.

The last line mentions dmsetup which I guess refers to /sbin/dmsetup from the
dmsetup package. dmsetup isn't in depends or recommends, but is installed
(version 2:1.02.27-4).

Severity important as this might be a corner case because I don't have any
physical volume/volume groups setup yet. (I was hoping system-config-lvm would
help me do that). I also haven't rebooted since installing system-config-lvm
and lvm2, though I did try running /etc/init.d/lvm2 restart.

Thanks for your work in Debian.

Bug#416484: Same issue here, also from command line

2008-10-18 Thread Ariel Garcia

I have the same issue here, and in another form it has also been reported
as Debian Bug #463711
   http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=463711

and elsewhere
   http://bugs.pardus.org.tr/show_bug.cgi?id=7500

(as reported in the other bug)
The KDE framework doesn't ask me for a pin but it also doesn't work from
the command line as described in #463711

This issue is happening to me since at least a year, it was working fine
before!! And yes, i checked tons of different settings, googled for it,
spent hours on it and cannot find anything wrong in my setup. It simply
doesn't work :-(
Devices which were paired earlier continue to work fine!! it is just new
devices which i want to add which make problems!

No messages at all in any logs, in particular nothing logged
in /var/log/daemon.log after hcid started.

BTW: the workarrounds which worked for some people here didn't work for me
either. Neither HIDD_ENABLED=1, nor
# hidd --connect 00:19:7F:0F:24:FD
Can't get device information: Success

(great error message! ;-P)

Bug#502105: mutt 1.5.18-4: Bad IDN in from: prevents sending mail

Re: Ennio Sr 2008-10-13 [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I've just upgraded my Debian distro from Etch to Lenny.
When I pressed 'y' to send a message written with mutt (from console) I
 got the warning:
  Bad IDN in from: ...(username)..[at]tin.it
which prevented me to send the message. I could however 'postpone' the
 message and quit mutt.

 Hi,

could you send the uncloaked error message in full, as well as your
$from and relevant my_hdr settings so we have a chance to debug this?

As Frank already said, I suspect a badly encoded config file to be the
 culprit.

 Christoph

The original error line was:
Bad IDN in from: 'tin.it'

Here follow details of my root and user locales, main Muttrc and user
.muttrc. As I told Frank, I did try with different locales but got
always the same result, so went back again to previous mutt version.

seems to have been blacklisted at debian.org].
Thanks for your attention.

Bug#502629: fuse: can not mount locations with ',' in the name

2008-10-18 Thread Laszlo Kajan
Package: fuse
Version: 2.7.4-1.1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Together with sshfs it fails to mount locations like:

lkajan,[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home/groups/j/jb/jbio

because of the ',' in the name. Both sshfs and fuse need to be patched
to properly escape and unescape such locations.
