Description : x-ray absorption data for the elements

This module supports access to X-ray absorption data. It is designed
to be a transparent interface to absorption data from a variety of
sources. Currently, the only sources of data are the 1969 McMaster
tables, the 1999 Elam tables, the 1993 Henke tables, and the 1995
Chantler tables. The Brennan-Cowen implementation of the
Cromer-Liberman tables is available as a drop-on-top addition to this
package. More resources can be added easily.

Hi Carlo,

can you imagine applications where this variety of sources includes
x-ray data from medical care? I'm wondering whether this package might
be an interesting target for the Debian Med physics task. Or are the
ITPed packages rather targeting at particle physics and do not really
targeting at medical care?

IMHO it would not harm if you would add the answer to this question as
a separate paragraph to the description.

Kind regards

   Andreas.

that grub2 manages all of them.

Hope is clear.

The package depends heavily on WRI and it is annoying
for me also. The current situation is due to timing issue.

But however, can someone please give advise how i can get the
ttf-mathematica fonts working in Debian Lenny?

The package in sid should work, at least it installs fonts
at present and you can use them but I don't know how they
are useful for you.

For MathML, wait for a package of STIX fonts and for Mathematica
it need some more time, if possible, to get a package working
in Debian.

Bug#517962: dlatest: new tool for querying the latest available version of a package

2009-03-03 Thread Ben Finney
Package: devscripts
Version: 2.10.46
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Howdy,

In tuning my packaging workflow, I wanted an automated tool for
querying the Debian archive for the latest available version of the
current package, and emitting the version string.

Please find attached ‘dlatest’, a shell program that makes use of
‘parsechangelog’ and ‘rmadison’ to do this job. It has full option
parsing and a standard help message, but currently no manpage.

I hope this can be included in the ‘devscripts’ package.

Upon booting my system the next morning, the default rules get applied so that

I tried stopping the firewall and flushing the rules by issuing
/etc/init.d/apf-firewall stop but that doesn't work because RUN=no.

I think it's the /etc/cron.daily/apf-firewall entry that starts the firewall,

the first footnote is missing, as far as I saw.
Maybe it is a font issue.
As attachement, you will find the PDF and a screenshot of it.

Your attached PDF shows the same bug (and your screenshot doesn't show
the interesting part of the page). The bug is about showing the
footnotes text at the bottom of the page. In your PDF, I see at the
bottom of the page only the 2 Second footnote, missing the 1 First
footnote text (looked at pdf with evince and xpdf, so I don't think
it's an issue with my pdf viewer?).
Indeed, my bad. Sorry for this.

Reopened.

Bug#517963: concalc: tcsetattr fehler: Invalid argument

2009-03-03 Thread Kingsley G. Morse Jr.
Package: concalc
Version: 0.9.2-1
Severity: normal

Thanks for maintaining Debian's concalc package.

It looks promising.

It seems to me to unnecessarily report an error
when run as a substituted command in bash's shell.

Here's how to duplicate the bug:

$ echo $( concalc 1 + 1 )
tcsetattr fehler: Invalid argument
tcsetattr error: Invalid argument
2

I noticed that it also returns the correct answer,
which in this case is 2.

However, the same command with no substitution
reports no error

$ concalc 1 + 1
2

Thanks,
Kingsley

2009-03-03 Thread Russell Cloran
Package: python-flup
Version: 1.0.1-1
Severity: normal
File: flup

The current python-flup in lenny, squeez and sid is 1.0

Upstream have released 1.0.1, which improves how SCRIPT_NAME and PATH_INFO
are extracted from the environment. This fixes problems I've been having
with flup.

I've uploaded a package to my PPA on Launchpad,
https://launchpad.net/~russell/+archive/ppa

This is a trivial version bump -- the old patches still apply, but should be
regenerated because the SOURCES.txt has had a minor change which means that
the 1.0-1 patch requires some fuzz to apply.

It appears to be a known issue which is fixed starting from svn

Thanks a lot for the heads-up! If you're using unstable and have a
strong need for the patch, I would consider backporting it. But I'd

The convention is that every binary gets a man page. It would be good if

Bug#463772: seen the same lately

2009-03-03 Thread grin
Version: 2.4.7-1
Found: 2.4.7-1

Actually met this one now, with a mousepen tablet. Basically I cannot
use tablet and mouse together.

If I disable all extended input sources, I can use mouse.

If I enable the tablet, the mouse will not work; either I disable
extended input which makes no mouse events inside gimp (except menus)
or enable it, which gives coordinates around minus MAXINT, which is
probably out of bounds (and sanity) for gimp so it
throws the warnings mentioned earlier.

I have the same effect with 'xinput list', looks bad, so it might not
be a gimp problem, I cannot point to anyone though.

I'd be down to create it, but I think that at some point in the future
you'd all like to create a real live bts-link package to distribute
alongside debbugs for people who run debbugs. [At least, I hope that's
 a future goal.] I

I'd personnaly wish to mature bts-link until a point in time when it would even
be a generic tool not necessarily working only for debbugs (with its
forwarded-to and usertags) but as a standalone app (which could of course work
primarily in conjunction with debbugs, but not exclusively).

Psuedopackages do not transition to real packages elegantly. [At
 least, I think they don't.] (It's probably ok to shove a bts-link
package into experimental for just this purpose.)

That said, assuming bts-link actually becomes integrated into b.d.o, I
wouldn't be averse to you all having bugs that affect bts-link
assigned to the bugs.debian.org pseudopackage, so long as you usertag
them appropriately to segregate them out.

I'm a bit afraid by the number of bugs on b.d.o, so I'm not sure it's worth
adding more, but in any case, we can try that, according on a specific usertag,
and maybe it will be a good test case for bug triaging tools ;)

Bug#517973: unfinalized changelog entries imply unparseable debian/changelog files

2009-03-03 Thread Stefano Zacchiroli
Package: dpkg-dev-el
Version: 29.5-1
Severity: normal

Hi, I've a proposal for a (supposedly) better convention about
finalized/unfinalized debian/changelog entries.

Currently:

- finalized entries have real distribution names (e.g., unstable),
and maintainer / timestamp after -- at the entry end

- unfinalized entries have real distribution names too, but no
  maintainer / timestamp after --

The problems I see with that:

1) finalized entries are not distinguishable from valid, yet not
uploaded entries in VCSs (the equivalent of UNRELEASED entries
  implemented by dch in devscripts)

2) unfinalized entries are not properly parseable by
dpkg-parsechangelog (which indeed complains) and strictly speacking
do not adhere to the debian/changelog syntax

Consequences of (2):

- one cannot know who is the author of the text in a mono-author
(i.e. with no [ Name Surname ] tags) entry

- packages are not properly buildable by automatic tools which
checkout packages from VCS and build them, a la
  svnbuildstat.debian.net

My proposal to fix that is basically to implement the current dch
conventions, namely:

- keep author name / timestamp after -- and use UNRELEASED as the
distribution for unfinalized changelog entries. Also, do not touch
the timestamp until an entry is finalized (which avoids useless VCS
  commit diffs)

- upon finalization: fix UNRELEASED and update the timestamp

Also, this would have the additional benefit of shamelessly
integrating the workflow of people using dch with those of people
using the Emacs changelog mode. FWIW, I belive the former set of
people is way larger than the latter.

What do you think of this?
Cheers.

Bug#517975: pdnsd: package update overrides configuration

2009-03-03 Thread Valery V. Vorotyntsev
Package: pdnsd
Version: 1.2.7-par-1
Severity: serious

pdnsd stopped responding to requests from tap0 interface after the
package was updated. It appears to be a direct result of Debian policy
violations.

 10.7.2 Location

Any configuration files created or used by your package must reside
in /etc. If there are several, consider creating a subdirectory of
 /etc named after your package.

If your package creates or uses configuration files outside of /etc,
and it is not feasible to modify the package to use /etc directly,
put the files in /etc and create symbolic links to those files from
the location that the package requires.

pdnsd uses `/usr/share/pdnsd/pdnsd-resolvconf.conf'. To complicate the
matters, there _is_ `/etc/pdnsd.conf' file, ignored by default package
installation. I am sure that many new pdnsd users edit this file and
are a bit surprised to see no result.

 10.7.3 Behavior

Configuration file handling must conform to the following behavior:

   * local changes must be preserved during a package upgrade, and

   * configuration files must be preserved when the package is removed,
and only deleted when the package is purged.

My /usr/share/pdnsd/pdnsd-resolvconf.conf was silently overwritten
during package update. All local changes[1] were discarded.

[1] server_ip = any; // access restricted by firewall rules

(That is why tap0 interface got no responses.)

IMO, pdnsd should use /etc/pdnsd.conf by default and preserve local
changes to it.

Thank you.

Bug#517976: significantly more cpu usage on armel than before

2009-03-03 Thread Joey Hess
Package: mpd
Version: 0.14.2-2
Severity: normal

Between version 0.13.2-3lenny1 and 0.14.2-2, mpd has gotten much worse at
mp3[1] sound playback on armel. It seems to be using a *lot* more cpu.

I noticed that when I'm running the stable version, mpd's cpu usage on my
thecus while playing a mp3 is often below 1%. With the unstable version, it
never gets below 20-30%.

This isn't just about CPU load numbers of course. It's about reliably getting
clear playback under load without audio glitches caused by the buffer running
dry, etc. I can reproduce this at will, on two separate arm machines. They are:

turtle: a thecus N2100, with this:
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 041e:3040 Creative Technology, Ltd SoundBlaster
Live! 24-bit External SB0490
box: a qnap ts-109 with the following cheap usb sound dongle:
Bus 002 Device 005: ID 0d8c:000c C-Media Electronics, Inc. Audio Adapter

My first guess is that something has been rewritten and is using floating
point, at which of course, arm sucks[2]. Grepping for float in the new source
tree certianly turns up a dozen more than in the old.

pcm_resample_libsamplerate.c looked particularly likely, at a
guess. But configuring --disable-lsr didn't help. Nor did trying
all the samplerate_converter settings, much.

I'm still learning toward it being due to floating point, but
since mpd has become threaded, arm threading innefficies also
seem plausible.

[1] I think ogg is also affected, but I've been testing with mp3s only.
[2] armel sucks less, but let's face it: w/o cpu-specific optimised builds,
it still sucks :-)

pcm_resample_libsamplerate.c looked particularly likely, at a
guess. But configuring --disable-lsr didn't help. Nor did trying
 all the samplerate_converter settings, much.

The libsamplerate code hasn't changed except for cleanups. This is
where most MPD installations suck most of their CPU. The fallback
algorithm (pcm_resample_fallback.c) is fast, but its quality is
horrible.

I'm still learning toward it being due to floating point, but since
mpd has become threaded, arm threading innefficies also seem
 plausible.

I don't think so. There are very very few places in MPD where
floating point is actually used, e.g. libsamplerate (libsamplerate
doesn't support fixed-point or integer arithmetics), and that hasn't
changed.

My guess is that you're using software volume. Since mp3 files are
now decoded in 24 bit (because libmad provides 28 bit samples, and
we're now throwing away 4 bits instead of 12), the software volume
code has to revert to 64 bit integer operations - and this is quite
expensive on 32 bit CPUs. For i386, mpd.git (0.15~git) contains an
assembly version (simple imul with 64 bit edx:eax result, gcc is too
dumb for generating this obvious solution) - other architectures might
still suffer.

If you're using software volume, try to force MPD to use 16 bit
samples internally (audio_output_format 44100:16:2 in mpd.conf) -
this conversion is performed directly after the decoder, before
anything else is done. Another idea: set software volume to 100%,
making it a no-op.

Is there any chance you can get me an oprofile report?

Max

Bug#507652: Upgrade fontspec

2009-03-03 Thread Wouter Bolsterlee
Hi all,

I was also having problems with math symbols not showing up correctly in PDF
documents, and manually upgrading the fontspec package from the distributed
version 1.13 to the latest upstream version 1.18 made my math symbols
(e.g. summation sign) show up again.

Fontspec can be downloaded here:

  http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/help/Catalogue/entries/fontspec.html

Note that you might need to run latex fontspec.ins once to generate the
necessary files. You need fonspec.sty and fontspec.cfg in your texmf path.
Symlinking those files into the directory in which your .tex file resides,
works as well.

Seems to be because of the shared-mime-info conflict with nautilus 2.24.
 I'm
going to see if we can update the xdgmime copy in nautilus as I discussed with
Josselin, so that the shared-mime-info conflict can be removed.

Yes, as it will try to install shared-mime-info, which will mark nautilus as
uninstalled, and with it gnome-desktop-environment, marking for removal all of
gnome together with g-d-e.

I'll try to work on this today.

Bug#517981: hddtemp: String-overflow with long product identifiers

2009-03-03 Thread Thomas Kindler
Package: hddtemp
Version: 0.3-beta15-44
Severity: important

I have an USB multi-card reader and found a string-overflow in
hddtemp.
When a device reports a full 16-byte Product ID, the string won't get
zero-terminated.

Example:
 # hddtemp /dev/sdi
 /dev/sdi: Generic STORAGE DEVICE-A9727@: S.M.A.R.T. not
available
   ^^ overflow!!

(lsusb identifies the device as ID 05e3:0716 Genesys Logic, Inc.)

A hex dump of the INQUIRY packet shows the following:

dumping 36 bytes from 0x7fffd9847e50

0020: 39-37 32-37 - - - - - - 9727

According to SPC-2, the vendor is Generic , product STORAGE
DEVICE-A
and the revision level is 9727.

I've attached a patch that moves scsi_fixstring() into scsi_model
(where
it belongs), and truncates the model string to 24 bytes (Vendor+Product
ID).

How does your /etc/courier/imapd-ssl configuration file look like?

If I set TLS_PROTOCOL to SSL23, I get a no shared ciphers error,

What happens if you don't set TLS_PROTOCOL at all?

Bug#504380: Acknowledgement ([icecc-monitor] no host or scheduler found)

2009-03-03 Thread Christoph Thielecke
I got it working partly. With this patch (yes, stdlib include I put for gcc
4.x here) it works if USE_SCHEDULER is set to an valid ip address.

It seems there are some changes in iceccd which cause our problem. The icemon
does not got the ip address of the scheduler. If given I can force to check
this ip and it returns the clients.

With this patch it works fine here if I set the environment variable or
call 'USE_SCHEDULER=x.x.x.x icemon'

Best regards

Bug#517983: Missing patch for mod_auth_radius

2009-03-03 Thread Tomi Leppikangas
Package: libapache2-mod-auth-radius
Version: 1.5.7-8
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

I have been using old apache with mod radius from 2003.
Now i updated apache and notised that new mod_auth_radius
version is missing some functionality that was on old version.

From 1.5.7 version history it looks like versions 1.3.4-
1.4.2 are missing. They seem to be made by j...@wede.de.

I ported those changes to 1.5.7 version so i could use multiple
different radius servers in different apache directories.

Attached is patch for 1.5.7 and full 1.4.2 source code.
I would like to see this functionality added to main
mod_auth_radius versions.

Bug#517984: apache2: one logfile missing should not prevent apache from running

2009-03-03 Thread root
Package: apache2.2-common
Version: 2.2.9-10+lenny2
Severity: wishlist

Last week I had a very boring problem on a production server :

As my box / partition was near to saturation I had to quickly get back some
space,
the easiest way for me was to remove big and unused files from /var/log...
Doing so, I suppressed a directory containing logfiles which seemed unused to
me...
But in fact these files were configured as ErrorLog for an old testing virtual
server which I didn't used anymore
and I even didn't remember that this directory was used by Apache.

I did this on Friday afternoon and didn't notice anything bad right after that.
But back to work the next Monday, I realized that all my websites had been down
for all the week-end !

The logrotate had made his job at 6h30 : stop apache, rotate the logs, then
restart apache, but apache never restarted, throwing a
could not open error log file but none was here at this moment to see it.

So I think that when apache cannot open nor create a logfile It should throw a
warning but It should not prevent apache from running,
furthermore, when I noticed on Monday that my websites were down, I first tried
:
apache2ctl configtest
which answered : Syntax OK
perhaps configtest should double check that the logfiles mentionned in config
files are present on disk.

Did you check the md5sum of the image before burning it? This is an ugly

Bug#517986: After change sources.list to debian mirror can't use aptitude

2009-03-03 Thread Paul Chanyi

Package: aptitude
Version: 0.4.11.11-1~lenny1

I have installed Debian GNU/Linux Lenny from the first Installation CD
on a PC with K6 microprocessor.

The locale is Hungarian.
The kernel is: linux-image-2.6.26-1-486

After I edited the sources.list and add a debian mirror, I run 'aptitude
update' but get the message: 'Illegal instruction'.

After that I can't to use aptitude anymore, nor apt-get anymore.

If I chnage back the state of the file hashing (#) the lines with debian
mirror,

and run again 'aptitude update' I can to use aptitude again.

I have only the first Installation CD and want to use network to install
other packages.

Is this a bug and how can I solve this problem?

update-initramfs -k all -u

I'm using an i386 system, rather than an AMD64 system.

 Following on from
 http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?p=156335#156335 I deleted the

moved the entire directory .openoffice2.org and started openoffice again

I could access my spreadsheets but then on setting the default parameters,

deleted the entire .openoffice directory and repeated.

 Again it crashed.

I cannot not reproduce this problem. Could you provide a testfile?

I am now about to purge the entire system of openoffice and reinstall

Did you do it and did it solve the problem?

If you can still reproduce this, could you please provide a backtrace as
mentioned in [1].

Thanks a lot,

Apparently the FTBFS issue is fixed:

Can we close 490241 now too?

Bug#517988: Printing a document causes Xorg to CPU load of over 100 %

2009-03-03 Thread Paul Menzel
Subject: openoffice.org: Printing a document causes Xorg to CPU load of over
100 %
Package: openoffice.org
Version: 1:3.0.1-2
Severity: normal

*** Please type your report below this line ***

Dear Debian folks,

today I received a document and wanting to print it suddenly the curse
moved very slow and top showed 100 and more in the column %CPU for the
process Xorg. After one or two minutes the print job was started and
everything was back to normal.

I was able to reproduce this some tries later. Could you please give me
a hint or point me to some documentation how I can debug what Xorg
causes to get such a high load. It just happened when I hit printing in
OpenOffice.org so it could as well also be related to cups.

This is what I did.

Create an envelope and put a picture into the background. I had a gif
and surrounded the addressee and sender boxes with lines. I do not know
if this matters.

Then hit print.

Thanks a lot and sorry for the poor debug information,

Paul

Bug#515887: What Grip does and asunder doesn't

2009-03-03 Thread Arthur Marsh
I disappointed to hear that Grip has been dropped from Debian without a
proper substitute.

Asunder does not submit entries to freedb.org. What programs that are in
Debian allow ripping/titling and submission of entries to freedb.org?

I was attempting to post a bug that Grip does not tag flac files, having
tried Grip after Asunder failed to rip a track off a brand new cd (just
the one track, which read fine in Grip, even though both use cdparanoia).

I noticed on sourceforge that someone had noticed the Grip author absent
and had been unable to contact the Grip author and had started a fork
*based on the Debian patches*, http://sourceforge.net/projects/mp3mesa/

Has any attempt been made to inform the Grip mailing list of Grip being
dropped from Debian, or for Grip maintainer in Debian to use MP3Mesa?

Also, would posting a follow-up bug report on Grip in reportbug cause
that message to appear as a follow-up to Bug#515887? It is not clear
from the message I read nor from reportbug what happens. I actually
prefer to use reportbug to follow-up on a bug rather than emailing
bug-num...@bugs.debian.org as the library dependency information is
helpful to other bug reporters as well as the maintainer.

I have also resorted to using several packages in Debian that manipulate
tags in MP3 and other music files, as they have different strengths.

If a package is to be dropped like this, please give some warning - I do
use apt-listchanges and an alert as a package update would reach more
people than any related mailing lists.

Regards,

Arthur Marsh.

Bug#517989: how does one use reportbug to follow up on packages marked for removal?

2009-03-03 Thread Arthur Marsh
Package: reportbug
Version: 3.48
Severity: normal

Hi, I was about to report a bug on package grip when I found in
reportbug that it had been marked for removal.

What neither reportbug nor the emails indicating the packages removal
made clear was how to post a follow-up message in reportbug.

Could I have just done a follow-up in reportbug on one of the grip
package bugs?

Is there a way in reportbug to get browse the packages recently marked
for removal from Debian?

Is there a way in that reportbug could make clear how to post a
follow-up to a package marked for removal from Debian?

Hello...

I´ve just installed samba 3.3.1, but force group clase doesn´t work, but now
pdbedit works well. When I connect with a share samba show the same behavior
(connect with uid and primary gid instead group in force group option).

After that I´ve downgrade to 3.2.5, but the format of passdb.tdb it´s
unknown by this version of samba, so I deleted it (after a backup copy), and
I start to register users; now I can connect using the group in force group
option.

Bug#517977: built newer gradm2 package

2009-03-03 Thread Martin Steigerwald

Hi!

I built a newer gradm2 package myself.

http://people.teamix.net/~ms/debian/lenny/

Maybe it can serve as a basis for a new package in Debian Squeeze. I can
backport it to lenny then. Well the current package is built for lenny
anyway.

Bug#516825: dvdbackup - FTBFS: error: 'dvd_stat_t' undeclared

2009-03-03 Thread Adeodato Simó
* Stephen Gran [Mon, 02 Mar 2009 22:50:43 +]:

I'm not sure, which is why I was asking. I can see two arguments - one
that we should just move on from the broken version(s) of the library,
and another that the packaging should be made robust enough that it
doesn't try to accidentally build against a known broken version of
the library (i.e., fixing Build-Depends to be more strictly versioned).
Both arguments make sense to me, but I'll leave it up to RMs to decide
which is better for the archive.

Library bugs in unstable are transient, so I don't think such
information belongs in the Build-Depends line of reverse dependencies,
no, at least not in the common case.

If, say, a library bug doesn't cause packages to FTBFS, but introduces
buggy code in the resulting binary that does rm -rf /, then a
Build-Conflicts or an updated Build-Depends may be in order, yes. ;-)

Bug#517993: urlgrabber: Patch for md5 deprecation warning from python 2.6

2009-03-03 Thread Michael Bienia
Package: urlgrabber
Version: 3.1.0-4
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

Hello,

as Ubuntu is already transitioning to python 2.6 here is a patch which
fixes a deprecation warning about the md5 module. It also contains a
change for the python 2.6 transition and removes the python version
from the shebang in /usr/bin/urlgrabber so the package can depend on
python (instead of python2.5).

Regards
Michael

Bug#510580: to mention ITP #478741

2009-03-03 Thread Zhao Difei
Rake 0.8.3 is in Debian now. I have Rails 2.2.2 mostly done. I guess
2.3.0 will be in experimental soon too so people can play with it.

 - Adam

Would be very good if we can see it soon :)
i18n feature of rails 2.2 is very important for form validation l10n.

Simple WA is just comment out use warnings in
/usr/share/perl5/Geo/IPfree.pm ;-)

It looks, the problem is in handling arguments of the new() method in
IPfree.pm.

Try attached patch.

Maybe in a couple of weeks, I first want to deal with module-init-tools
and inn2.
If you want to speed up the process, feel free to start triaging the
open udev bugs.
