It is designed to be a transparent interface to absorption data from a variety of sources. Currently, the only sources of data are the 1969 McMaster tables, the 1999 Elam tables, the 1993 Henke tables, and the 1995 Chantler tables. The Brennan-Cowen implementation of the Cromer-Liberman tables is available as a drop-on-top addition to this package. More resources can be added easily. Hi Carlo, can you imagine applications where this variety of sources includes x-ray data from medical care? I'm wondering whether this package might be an interesting target for the Debian Med physics task. Or are the ITPed packages rather targeting at particle physics and do not really targeting at medical care? IMHO it would not harm if you would add the answer to this question as a separate paragraph to the description. I'd be down to create it, but I think that at some point in the future you'd all like to create a real live bts-link package to distribute alongside debbugs for people who run debbugs. [At least, I hope that's a future goal.] I I'd personnaly wish to mature bts-link until a point in time when it would even be a generic tool not necessarily working only for debbugs (with its forwarded-to and usertags) but as a standalone app (which could of course work primarily in conjunction with debbugs, but not exclusively). Psuedopackages do not transition to real packages elegantly. [At least, I think they don't.] (It's probably ok to shove a bts-link package into experimental for just this purpose.) That said, assuming bts-link actually becomes integrated into b.d.o, I wouldn't be averse to you all having bugs that affect bts-link assigned to the bugs.debian.org pseudopackage, so long as you usertag them appropriately to segregate them out. I'm a bit afraid by the number of bugs on b.d.o, so I'm not sure it's worth adding more, but in any case, we can try that, according on a specific usertag, and maybe it will be a good test case for bug triaging tools ;) Best regards, -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#517973: unfinalized changelog entries imply unparseable debian/changelog files
Package: dpkg-dev-el Version: 29.5-1 Severity: normal Hi, I've a proposal for a (supposedly) better convention about finalized/unfinalized debian/changelog entries. Currently: - finalized entries have real distribution names (e.g., unstable), and maintainer / timestamp after -- at the entry end - unfinalized entries have real distribution names too, but no maintainer / timestamp after -- The problems I see with that: 1) finalized entries are not distinguishable from valid, yet not uploaded entries in VCSs (the equivalent of UNRELEASED entries implemented by dch in devscripts) 2) unfinalized entries are not properly parseable by dpkg-parsechangelog (which indeed complains) and strictly speacking do not adhere to the debian/changelog syntax Consequences of (2): - one cannot know who is the author of the text in a mono-author (i.e. with no [ Name Surname ] tags) entry - packages are not properly buildable by automatic tools which checkout packages from VCS and build them, a la svnbuildstat.debian.net My proposal to fix that is basically to implement the current dch conventions, namely: - keep author name / timestamp after -- and use UNRELEASED as the distribution for unfinalized changelog entries. Also, do not touch the timestamp until an entry is finalized (which avoids useless VCS commit diffs) - upon finalization: fix UNRELEASED and update the timestamp Also, this would have the additional benefit of shamelessly integrating the workflow of people using dch with those of people using the Emacs changelog mode. FWIW, I belive the former set of people is way larger than the latter. What do you think of this? Bug#517975: pdnsd: package update overrides configuration
Package: pdnsd Version: 1.2.7-par-1 Severity: serious pdnsd stopped responding to requests from tap0 interface after the package was updated. It appears to be a direct result of Debian policy violations. 10.7.2 Location Any configuration files created or used by your package must reside in /etc. If there are several, consider creating a subdirectory of /etc named after your package. If your package creates or uses configuration files outside of /etc, and it is not feasible to modify the package to use /etc directly, put the files in /etc and create symbolic links to those files from the location that the package requires. pdnsd uses `/usr/share/pdnsd/pdnsd-resolvconf.conf'. To complicate the matters, there _is_ `/etc/pdnsd.conf' file, ignored by default package installation. I am sure that many new pdnsd users edit this file and are a bit surprised to see no result. 10.7.3 Behavior Configuration file handling must conform to the following behavior: * local changes must be preserved during a package upgrade, and * configuration files must be preserved when the package is removed, and only deleted when the package is purged. On 2009/03/03 11:12, Joey Hess jo...@debian.org wrote: My first guess is that something has been rewritten and is using floating point, at which of course, arm sucks[2]. But configuring --disable-lsr didn't help. Nor did trying all the samplerate_converter settings, much. The libsamplerate code hasn't changed except for cleanups. This is where most MPD installations suck most of their CPU. The fallback algorithm (pcm_resample_fallback.c) is fast, but its quality is horrible. I'm still learning toward it being due to floating point, but since mpd has become threaded, arm threading innefficies also seem plausible. I don't think so. There are very very few places in MPD where floating point is actually used, e.g. libsamplerate (libsamplerate doesn't support fixed-point or integer arithmetics), and that hasn't changed. My guess is that you're using software volume. Since mp3 files are now decoded in 24 bit (because libmad provides 28 bit samples, and we're now throwing away 4 bits instead of 12), the software volume code has to revert to 64 bit integer operations - and this is quite expensive on 32 bit CPUs. For i386, mpd.git (0.15~git) contains an assembly version (simple imul with 64 bit edx:eax result, gcc is too dumb for generating this obvious solution) - other architectures might still suffer. If you're using software volume, try to force MPD to use 16 bit samples internally (audio_output_format 44100:16:2 in mpd.conf) - this conversion is performed directly after the decoder, before anything else is done. Another idea: set software volume to 100%, making it a no-op. Is there any chance you can get me an oprofile report? Bug#507652: Upgrade fontspec
Hi all, I was also having problems with math symbols not showing up correctly in PDF documents, and manually upgrading the fontspec package from the distributed version 1.13 to the latest upstream version 1.18 made my math symbols (e.g. summation sign) show up again. Fontspec can be downloaded here: http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/help/Catalogue/entries/fontspec.html Note that you might need to run latex fontspec.ins once to generate the necessary files. You need fonspec.sty and fontspec.cfg in your texmf path. With this patch it works fine here if I set the environment variable or call 'USE_SCHEDULER=x.x.x.x icemon' Best regards Christoph -- Linux User Group Wernigerode http://www.lug-wr.de/ --- icecc-monitor-1.1.orig/icemon-kde3/src/monitor.cc 2006-08-11 10:10:30.0 +0200 +++ /home/crissi/download2/icemon-kde3/icemon-kde3/src/monitor.cc 2009-03-03 10:52:59.0 +0100 @@ -30,7 +30,7 @@ #include klocale.h #include kdebug.h #include iostream - +#include stdlib.h #include qsocketnotifier.h #include qtimer.h @@ -98,7 +98,9 @@ if (!m_discover || m_discover-timed_out()) { delete m_discover; -m_discover = new DiscoverSched ( m_current_netname.latin1() ); + m_current_netname=; // m_current_netname.latin1() +m_discover = new DiscoverSched ( ); + m_discover-try_get_scheduler(); m_discover_read = new QSocketNotifier( m_discover-get_fd(), QSocketNotifier::Read, this ); signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part.

Bug#517983: Missing patch for mod_auth_radius
Package: libapache2-mod-auth-radius Version: 1.5.7-8 Severity: wishlist Hi, I have been using old apache with mod radius from 2003. Now i updated apache and notised that new mod_auth_radius version is missing some functionality that was on old version. From 1.5.7 version history it looks like versions 1.3.4- 1.4.2 are missing. They seem to be made by j...@wede.de. I ported those changes to 1.5.7 version so i could use multiple different radius servers in different apache directories. Attached is patch for 1.5.7 and full 1.4.2 source code. Bug#517984: apache2: one logfile missing should not prevent apache from running
Package: apache2.2-common Version: 2.2.9-10+lenny2 Severity: wishlist Last week I had a very boring problem on a production server : As my box / partition was near to saturation I had to quickly get back some space, the easiest way for me was to remove big and unused files from /var/log... Doing so, I suppressed a directory containing logfiles which seemed unused to me... But in fact these files were configured as ErrorLog for an old testing virtual server which I didn't used anymore and I even didn't remember that this directory was used by Apache. I did this on Friday afternoon and didn't notice anything bad right after that. But back to work the next Monday, I realized that all my websites had been down for all the week-end ! The logrotate had made his job at 6h30 : stop apache, rotate the logs, then restart apache, but apache never restarted, throwing a could not open error log file but none was here at this moment to see it. So I think that when apache cannot open nor create a logfile It should throw a warning but It should not prevent apache from running, furthermore, when I noticed on Monday that my websites were down, I first tried : apache2ctl configtest which answered : Syntax OK perhaps configtest should double check that the logfiles mentionned in config files are present on disk. -- Package-specific info: List of enabled modules from 'apache2 -M': actions alias asis auth_basic auth_digest authn_file authz_default authz_groupfile authz_host authz_user autoindex cgi dir env filter headers include* info mime_magic mime mxslt negotiation perl php5 rewrite setenvif speling ssl status (A * means that the .conf file for that module is not enabled in /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/) -- System Information: Debian Release: 5.0 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-6-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=fr_FR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages apache2 depends on: ii apache2-mpm-prefork 2.2.9-10+lenny2 Apache HTTP Server - traditional n apache2 recommends no packages. apache2 suggests no packages. Bug#517988: Printing a document causes Xorg to CPU load of over 100 %
Subject: openoffice.org: Printing a document causes Xorg to CPU load of over 100 % Package: openoffice.org Version: 1:3.0.1-2 Severity: normal *** Please type your report below this line *** Dear Debian folks, today I received a document and wanting to print it suddenly the curse moved very slow and top showed 100 and more in the column %CPU for the process Xorg. After one or two minutes the print job was started and everything was back to normal. I was able to reproduce this some tries later. Could you please give me a hint or point me to some documentation how I can debug what Xorg causes to get such a high load. It just happened when I hit printing in OpenOffice.org so it could as well also be related to cups. This is what I did. Create an envelope and put a picture into the background. I had a gif and surrounded the addressee and sender boxes with lines. I do not know if this matters. Then hit print. Bug#515887: What Grip does and asunder doesn't
I disappointed to hear that Grip has been dropped from Debian without a proper substitute. Asunder does not submit entries to freedb.org. What programs that are in Debian allow ripping/titling and submission of entries to freedb.org? I was attempting to post a bug that Grip does not tag flac files, having tried Grip after Asunder failed to rip a track off a brand new cd (just the one track, which read fine in Grip, even though both use cdparanoia). I noticed on sourceforge that someone had noticed the Grip author absent and had been unable to contact the Grip author and had started a fork *based on the Debian patches*, http://sourceforge.net/projects/mp3mesa/ Has any attempt been made to inform the Grip mailing list of Grip being dropped from Debian, or for Grip maintainer in Debian to use MP3Mesa? Also, would posting a follow-up bug report on Grip in reportbug cause that message to appear as a follow-up to Bug#515887? It is not clear from the message I read nor from reportbug what happens. I actually prefer to use reportbug to follow-up on a bug rather than emailing bug-num...@bugs.debian.org as the library dependency information is helpful to other bug reporters as well as the maintainer. I have also resorted to using several packages in Debian that manipulate tags in MP3 and other music files, as they have different strengths. If a package is to be dropped like this, please give some warning - I do use apt-listchanges and an alert as a package update would reach more people than any related mailing lists. Bug#516825: dvdbackup - FTBFS: error: 'dvd_stat_t' undeclared
* Stephen Gran [Mon, 02 Mar 2009 22:50:43 +]: I'm not sure, which is why I was asking. I can see two arguments - one that we should just move on from the broken version(s) of the library, and another that the packaging should be made robust enough that it doesn't try to accidentally build against a known broken version of the library (i.e., fixing Build-Depends to be more strictly versioned). Both arguments make sense to me, but I'll leave it up to RMs to decide which is better for the archive. Library bugs in unstable are transient, so I don't think such information belongs in the Build-Depends line of reverse dependencies, no, at least not in the common case. If, say, a library bug doesn't cause packages to FTBFS, but introduces buggy code in the resulting binary that does rm -rf /, then a Build-Conflicts or an updated Build-Depends may be in order, yes. ;-) Cheers, -- Adeodato Simó dato at net.com.org.es Debian Developer adeodato at debian.org - Why are you whispering? - Because I just think that no matter where she is, my mom can hear this conversation. -- Rory and Lane -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#517993: urlgrabber: Patch for md5 deprecation warning from python 2.6
Package: urlgrabber Version: 3.1.0-4 Severity: normal Tags: patch Hello, as Ubuntu is already transitioning to python 2.6 here is a patch which fixes a deprecation warning about the md5 module. It also contains a change for the python 2.6 transition and removes the python version from the shebang in /usr/bin/urlgrabber so the package can depend on python (instead of python2.5).
