Bug#533133: linux-image-2.6.30-1-amd64: iwlagn fails with Microcode SW error

2009-06-15 Thread Yves-Alexis Perez
Package: linux-image-2.6.30-1-amd64
Version: 2.6.30-1
Severity: normal

Hi,

trying the 2.6.30-1-amd64 package, it seems to have problems with wireless
stuff. It works fine on 2.6.29-2-amd64, but with 2.6.30-1-amd64, it first
connects and then hangs, and in dmesg I get:

[ 239.780615] iwlagn :03:00.0: Microcode SW error detected.
Restarting 0x200.

After that, nothing works until I reload the module. But the SW error
appears as soon as there is some traffic so it's quite unusable.

Please run the recommended script ftpsync, see

Your mirror is still missing a local trace file, because it doesn't

Bug#533134: libnanohttp1: strerror() is not thread-safe, need to use strerror_r()

2009-06-15 Thread Russell Coker
Package: libnanohttp1
Version: 1.1.0-16
Severity: important

I'm marking this bug as important because it can cause unreliable operation and
potentially crashes. If one thread has a network problem then other threads
are likely to have the same problem at the same time and trigger a race
condition.

I'll send a patch shortly.

Bug#528482: openct package need several fixes

2009-06-15 Thread Andreas Jellinghaus
Hi Eric,

thanks for updating the openct package.

Enhanced pcscd should be dropped, since 99% of the users do something
wrong if they install openct and pcscd at the same time. Usualy it is
best to use either opensc with openct. or opensc (or other apps) with
pcscd and a reader driver (e.g. libccid) other than openct.

Does this mean we should disable it at configure time?

no need for that. with pcsc option enabled we build the pcsc driver
in ifdhandler format. it is an extra binary and only uses a few bytes
of disk space, so no harm for the normal users. and those who want to use
it can configure pcscd to do so.

Thanks, Andreas

What is the filesystem for your /var/tmp mount?

Bug#530710: Thunderbird is the worst

2009-06-15 Thread martin f krafft
Thunderbird/icedove is the worst. Every mail notification steals the
focus. Also, if there is an alert, the focus is stolen (arguably it
should), but it seems that it's stolen repeatedly if the alert
window is not closed.

Also, Thunderbird steals the focus multiple times when creating the
window. Forward it over a slow SSH connection (like when you have to
debug it for your mother) and then try to work while waiting for the
window to build.

emacs/cmulisp.el has a license that prohibits distribution for money:

;;; Please imagine a long, tedious, legalistic 5-page gnu-style

I was unable to contact Olin Shivers to get the license changed.[1]

Obviously you might not really care if this file is still in the sources
since the intent of the license seems to suggest that it should be
consistent with 3-clause BSD, but I just wanted to give you a heads-up in
case you weren't aware of it and/or could perhaps contact Olin to ask him
about the status of the license. For the Debian package I have rebuilt the
tarball to remove this file.

I'm perfectly happy for you to distribute that code under the Debian-approved
license.

As Jonathan remarked, the original versions of these modes (comint, shell,
etc.) that I wrote in the 80's got messed up when the Gnu folks folded it
into gnu-emacs, at the direction of RMS. Alas.

Bug#533138: /usr/bin/evince: evince renders fonts terribly when a pdf also includes embedded fonts

2009-06-15 Thread Jem Atahan
Package: evince
Version: 2.24.2-2
File: /usr/bin/evince
Severity: important

*** Please type your report below this line ***

I am not sure this is logged in the right place, it might belong against
poppler. I can't see any duplicate bugs, but apologies if so, I don't know
what I am doing.

So, many PDFs render fine for me, but some produce terribly blocky text. I
don't have any examples that I can redistribute, but any journal article
downloaded from www.jstor.org seems to exhibit the problem.

I have have done some research to try and figure out what is going on. The
following bug reports against ubuntu and arch-linux seem to repeat what I
see, and suggest it is to do with a conflict between application
anti-aliasing and freetype autohinting when pdfs include embedded fonts, and
that some packages (poppler derived) don't use fontconfig and so a simple
dpkg-reconfigure fontconfig-config is not enough. See:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/poppler/+bug/48146
http://groups.google.cl/group/arch-linux/browse_thread/thread/5402873a6e65c151

A patch is suggested in the ubuntu thread (against poppler) that disables
freetype autohinting at compile time. I have not tried applying and
recompiling for a range of reasons not worth exploring. It is as follows:

--- poppler-0.6.4/splash/SplashFTFont.cc.-hinting2008-01-21
22:59:14.0 +0300
+++ poppler-0.6.4/splash/SplashFTFont.cc2008-12-18 17:21:04.0
+0300
@@ -180,7 +180,7 @@
   }

// if we have the FT2 bytecode interpreter, autohinting won't be used
-#ifdef TT_CONFIG_OPTION_BYTECODE_INTERPRETER
+#if 0
   if (FT_Load_Glyph(ff-face, gid,
 aa ? FT_LOAD_NO_BITMAP : FT_LOAD_DEFAULT)) {
 return gFalse;

Does this mean anything to anyone?

Thanks.

Bug#533141: Current netatalk fails to build from source

2009-06-15 Thread Itai Seggev
Package: netatalk
Version: 2.0.4~rc2-1
Severity: serious

Okay, perhaps I am cluless or there's something seriously wrong with my system,
but this has never failed me in the past. I am try to rebuild the package from
source to enable openSSL.

Going through the following

apt-get source netatalk
cd netatalk-2.0.4~rc2
dpkg-buildpackage (with or without DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=openssl)

will die with the following below.

BTW (and perhaps this should be its own separate bug), the README.Debian seems
to suggest openssl support is not need to connect to OS X 10.4 and higher, but
TimeMachine won't connect with the stock build. I'm not sure if I'm
misunderstanding the readme me, it is wrong, or I have some misconfiguration.

Bug#478981: Thunderbird/icedove is worse

2009-06-15 Thread martin f krafft
clone 478981 -1
reassign -1 icedove
retitle -1 Thunderbird/icedove continuously abuses UrgencyHint
tags -1 = upstream confirmed
thanks

Thunderbird/icedove is the worst. Every mail notification steals the
focus. Also, if there is an alert, the focus is stolen (arguably it
should), but it seems that it's stolen repeatedly if the alert
window is not closed.

Also, Thunderbird steals the focus multiple times when creating the
window. Forward it over a slow SSH connection (like when you have to
debug it for your mother) and then try to work while waiting for the
window to build.

This is an abuse of the UrgencyHint. Please fix that.

What confuses me about this report is that it *does* build on Debian
without using python [1]. The configure script probes for python and
omits some tests if not found. What is different about the Ubuntu
 build environment?

Ubuntu has python-minimal marked as Essential, so it's installed
everywhere. Therefore the configure scripts detects the python binary,
but python-minimal doesn't include all the needed modules for the test
suite and a standard python is needed for it.

Bug#531515: [Pkg-ia32-libs-maintainers] Processed: Re: Bug#531515: ia32-apt-get: breaks dpkg --control (= 1.15.1) and debsums

2009-06-15 Thread Goswin von Brederlow
Hi,

thank you for starcing the problem. Too me it looks like debsums calls
dpkg-deb in an undocumented (although not uncommon for tools in
general) way:

4: /usr/bin/dpkg-deb --control --
/var/cache/apt/archives/bzip2_1.0.5-2_amd64.deb /tmp/gD4mFRK2gm/DEBIAN

According to the manpage the syntax is:

-e, --control archive [directory]

There is no mention in the docs that dpkg-deb supports --. Maybe
because it is such a common option.

Your patch isn't correct though, at least not complete. Think of this
invocation:

dpkg-deb --control -- /var/cache/apt/archives/bzip2_1.0.5-2_amd64.deb

In that case, despite having 3 arguments, the DIR has to default to
$(pwd)/DEBIAN. I guess there is no way around fully scanning the
arguments and counting the valid bits. That should allow the use of
the -D option as well.

Goswin

Bug#531978: libgphoto2: Please modernize udev rules

2009-06-15 Thread Martin Pitt
Hello again,

Martin Pitt [2009-06-05 14:50 +0200]:
This debdiff applies it to the Debian package and also moves udev rule
creation from postinst to debian/rules. This is possible now, since
from udev 136 on, rules are shipped in /lib/udev/rules.d/, thus
 avoid becoming conffiles.

As with the other patch, this unfortunately missed to set CAMLIBS, to
ensure to load the libs from the package build tree. Fixed patch
attached.

contemporary udev rules which will avoid using the check_ptp_camera

 * debian/libgphoto2-2.postinst: Drop udev rule creation. Udev rules are

Bug#532766: please make mutt not modify message on saving or copying (content-length, lines)

2009-06-15 Thread Helmut Grohne
Thanks for your quick answer.

On Mon, Jun 15, 2009 at 01:43:58AM +0200, Michelle Konzack wrote:

Could you give any reference for this statement? The statement is
practically untrue.

Also messages are often needed verbatim (for instance for reporting
spam). Why should a message change, only because it got moved from one
mailbox to another?

Fortunately the patch only improves the situation: There is no point in
adding these headers for Maildir or imap and other storages are
unchanged. (It would also save about 1MB diskspace for me.)

Please rethink your decision.

Bug#532814: coreutils: cp -aL creates hardlinks where none were present before

2009-06-15 Thread Jim Meyering
brian m. carlson wrote:
 Package: coreutils
 Version: 7.4-2

Thanks for taking the time to report that.

If I create a directory structure such as the following:

   a:
   total 2
   drwxr-xr-x 2 bmc bmc 1024 2009-06-11 21:06 dir
   lrwxrwxrwx 1 bmc bmc4 2009-06-11 21:06 link - ../b

   a/dir:
   total 0
   lrwxrwxrwx 1 bmc bmc 7 2009-06-11 21:06 link - ../../b

   b:
   total 2
   -rw-r--r-- 1 bmc bmc 5 2009-06-11 21:06 file

and then run cp -aL a/* c, then the copies of file (in c) become hard
links to each other. This behavior is not documented, and it does not
occur if I use -LR instead of -aL. It appears to be triggered by
 --preserve=links.

That is correct, and deliberate.
With --preserve=links, when cp detects two source files with the
same inode, it must arrange for the corresponding names to be hard
linked in the destination tree. That is what preserve=links means.

The trick is to realize that when you invoke cp with -L,
that tells cp to use stat (which never sees a symlink) rather
than lstat to determine inode numbers. So those two symlinks
to the same file appear (to cp -L) as hard links, and it preserves
that attribute because you used -a, which includes --preserve=links.

My opinion is that this behavior is incorrect[0], but I don't care very
much one way or the other. If this behavior is intentional, it should
be clearly documented in the manual page, at the very least. Either
changing the behavior or documenting the behavior[1] is satisfactory for
 me.

I reproduced with this:

$ mkdir c; touch f; ln -s f a; ln -s f b; cp -aL a b c; ls -i1 c
74161745 a
74161745 b

[0] That is, --preserve=links should preserve symlinks as symlinks and
hard links as hard links. Just because -L forces all symlinks to be
dereferenced does not mean that I want to preserve symlinks as hard
 links.

--preserve=links preserves *hard* links.
By definition (POSIX), cp -L can never produce a symlink.

[1] This information should be present in the manual page, not just in
the info page (which I almost never read).

Sorry, but this corner is obscure enough that any explanation
belongs in the info documentation.
In fact, there are already comments in the texinfo sources
saying that this deserves explanation.

I wrote a few words on -L and added to the --preserve=links description:

`links'
Preserve in the destination files any links between
corresponding source files. Note that with `-L' or `-H',
this option can convert symbolic links to hard links. For
  example,
   $ mkdir c; :  a; ln -s a b; cp -aH a b c; ls -i1 c
   74161745 a
   74161745 b
Note the inputs: `b' is a symlink to regular file `a', yet
the files in destination directory, `c/', are hard-linked.
Since `-a' implies `--preserve=links', and since `-H' tells
`cp' to dereference command line arguments, it sees two files
with the same inode number, and preserves the perceived hard
  link.

Here is a similar example that exercises `cp''s `-L' option:
   $ mkdir b c; (cd b; :  a; ln -s a b); cp -aL b c; ls -i1 c/b
   74163295 a
   74163295 b

Here's the patch:

Bug#531979: libgphoto2: Please create hal fdi at build time

2009-06-15 Thread Martin Pitt
Hello again,

Martin Pitt [2009-06-05 15:04 +0200]:
Attached debdiff moves fdi creation into debian/rules to do it at
 build time.

Sorry, the initial patch failed to set CAMLIBS, which caused the
package to use the installed camera libs. Fixed patch attached.

I recommend using the wrapper debuild instead of dpkg-buildpackage
directly. It is found in the Debian package devscripts.

BTW (and perhaps this should be its own separate bug), the

Yes, please file that as a separate bug.

It might just be a documentation bug: README.Debian could very well be
misleading as it hasn't been updated in a while - I recommend checking
upstream documentation.

But please do not comment on it here - file a separate bugreport, also
if it turns out to be only a documentation issue.

Thanks for your help reporting these things!

Bug#532759: unnecessarily strict dependency on lynx-cur

 The arch:all lynx package Depends: lynx-cur (= 2.8.7pre1-1), which

For example, this means that currently xterm (which build-deps on lynx)
can't be built on mipsel because lynx is uninstallable. And lynx-cur in
turn can't be built waiting for openssh's build failure to be resolved.
I think lynx should just depend on lynx-cur with no version (unless you
want to fix #490265, which would be fine too).

Sorry for any inconvenience but to make xterm build-depend on
lynx-cur | lynx doesn't fix the problem?

I think buid-depends on lynx is a bit awkward at present.

However it's downright unusable because the sound is so bad when not

That's incorrect. --make-pidfile is for programs that don't create their
own pidfile. This is usually the wrong way to do things because of
processes forking into the background and changing pids.

Ok. It was just a guess after comparing the way how asterisk is
started with RUNASTSAFE=yes.

Asterisk creates its own pidfile, and there's no reason that we should
 switch from it to start-stop-daemon.

Ok.

Please note that running /etc/init.d/asterisk restart on the command line
caused no problems. So there must be something wrong in combination with
 debconf.
(But I have no idea what why.)

Right, we'd have a much bigger issue if restart didn't work :-)
I'm not sure what's the problem with your setup.

I'll try to have a look with your example postinst at some point.

Thx. That would be fine.

Bug#533141: Current netatalk fails to build from source

2009/6/15 Itai Seggev is+deb...@cs.hmc.edu:

 Severity: serious

Okay, perhaps I am cluless or there's something seriously wrong with my
 system,
but this has never failed me in the past.  I am try to rebuild the package
 from
 source to enable openSSL.

Please re-read the netatalk 2.0.4 release notes. For encrypted
password support netatalk now can use libgcrypt instead of OpenSSL.
libgcrypt is used by the DHX2 authentication mech.

Needed authentication mechanisms for certain OS X releases is an
entirely different issue then TimeMachine support.
10.5 requires some encrypted password mech (DHX, DHX2, randnum, gss)
while TimeMachine is not supported with 2.0.4. It will be in 2.1.

Please remember to report upstream fixable issues upstream.

Bug#533134: patch to fix this

2009-06-15 Thread Russell Coker
The attached patch fixes this problem.

In this patch I removed the strerror() from the malloc() failure messages. It
seems very unlikely that strerror_r() will add any useful information to a
malloc() failure. However anything which uses memory has the potential to
fail after malloc() failure.

The ideal thing to do would be to have a special function to handle malloc()
failures in which you try to avoid allocating any memory. Then you can wrap
malloc(), calloc(), etc with functions such as xmalloc(), xcalloc(), etc and
the calling code won't even need to display an error message.

I would be happy to implement the ideal solution to this and some other issues
if you will take over upstream maintenance and make the Debian patches be
part of an official release. The Debian patches are becoming difficult to
manage and I don't want to increase their scope.

Bug#521732: mutt tls_socket_write error -- imap_keepalive

your mailbox and keep the connection open, unfortunately it does not happen

this is clear from your tcpdump.

Would it be worthwhile to run mutt in gdb with a breakpoint somewhere inside the
imap_keepalive function (e.g. imap/util.c:709 imap_check_mailbox (ctx, NULL,
1); )

hi,

Screen does not start, but just returns and does nothing, if started
from an xterm which is itself started from another screen.

Problem is the $STY environment variable.

Screen tries to contact the screen from $STY and does not start a new

Bug#521192: Could this be scheduled for 5.0.2

2009-06-15 Thread Guido Günther
Hi,
could this patch be scheduled for 5.0.2? It would help a lot since we
then don't have to rebuild kernels after a security fix. The patch was
picked from upstream and is unintrusive:

 Hi,

The experimental version of gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg seems to break swfdec
when it comes to playing back YouTube videos (and possibly other
 sites).

I get this error message, afterwards the browser hangs:

  SWFDEC: ERROR: swfdec_video_decoder_gst.c(156):
swfdec_video_decoder_gst_decode: failed to pull decoded buffer. Broken
  stream?

Downgrading to the gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg version from unstable solves
 this problem.

I'm not sure if this a GStreamer or swfdec bug, so please reassign if
I filed it against the wrong package.

Hi,
does this happen for all youtube videos? If not, for which does it
happen?

Also, the best would be if you could file this bug upstream at
bugzilla.gnome.org for GStreamer/gst-ffmpeg to make sure that 0.10.8
isn't released before this problem is solved.

Bug#533153: libalog-dev: should depend on gnat-4.3

2009-06-15 Thread Ludovic Brenta
Package: libalog-dev
Version: 0.1-2
Severity: normal

The development package libalog-dev requires gnat-4.3; it is useless without it
and will not work with any other version of gnat-x.y because of Ada's
consistency rules. gnat implements these rules by means of the checksums in
the .ali files shipped in libalog-dev, which depend on those in gnat-4.3.

The package should therefore encode this dependency in its control file.

Similarly, the package should tighten its dependency on a certain version (or
range of versions) of libahven-dev. Alternatively, a new version of
libahven-dev that breaks compatibility should change its name.

Bug#533154: Persistent network interfaces:

2009-06-15 Thread Alexander Menk
Package: udev
Version: 0.125-7

What i do:

10 Network interfaces are in the system, for 8 of them the driver is
blacklisted (but was already used). I plug two additional ones.

Expected behavior (ifconfig -a)

Before: eth0-9

After temporary Blacklisting: eth0, 1

After plugging to new NICs:
eth0,1,10,11

Actual behavior:

Weired eth1_renamed stuff

I checked
/etc/udev/rules.d/70_persistent-net.rules

that is generated by:

/lib/udev/write_net_rules

# PCI device x (igb)
SUBSYSTEM==net, ACTION==add, DRIVERS==?*,
ATTR{address}==00:1b:xx, ATTR{type}==1, KERNEL==eth*,
NAME=eth9

# PCI device 0x1106:0x3106 (via-rhine)

SUBSYSTEM==net, ACTION==add, DRIVERS==?*,
ATTR{address}==00:0f:, ATTR{type}==1, KERNEL==eth*,

To me I looks lile that script write_net_rules can not use ethXX (with
two digits) properly and just cuts the second digit.

I am using Debian GNU/Linux 5.0.1.

Ouch, that's indeed quite a lot of packages.

Are you willing to maintain them yourself on the long term? I could
sponsor them, but would not actively help to maintain them (ie, I would
only check that they don't seem too broken to be uploaded to Debian, but
would really be helpful when dealing with bugs).

I do have access to infiniband clusters, but haven't had to set them up

Actually you should be able to see the NOOP in .muttdebug0, which I'm
not seeing...
Unfortunately, as I said, there is no time/date there so I cannot
correlate it with the tcpdump stream.

There is a new version of mutt on mentors.debian.net which has the patch
for time/date, probably you could use that and send me the .muttdebug0 +
tcpstream so I can have a better look.

Beside this, before the error happens do you use mutt or do you leave it
open in a terminal? Do you leave it in the pager/index/compose mode? Do
you use the keys often or is it just sleeping and then the error happens?

If Sylvestre wants to upload a fix, that's perfect.

from dmesg, after some usage. Can't see a clear pattern, I'm just running
an ssh session over the VPN UDP link; it works fine but gets killed with
SIG11 form time to time. A manual restart is needed (or a suitable
watchdog script of course).

initramfs-tools is shipping it indeed.

I don't know why you have enabled the second check:

 # kernel-package passes an extra arg; hack to not run under kernel-package
 #[ -z $2 ] || exit 0

Disabling it and doing the installation creates the initrd image properly.

explained in debian/changelog, by disabling the check
you have busted now the ability to install linux-2.6 officialy build
linux images.

so status stays the same people that care about kernel-package,
should come forward with a good patch.

There are many european mirrors around: ftp.pl.debian.org, ftp.de, ftp.hr.

Bug#532766: please make mutt not modify message on saving or copying (content-length, lines)

2009-06-15 Thread Michelle Konzack
Hallo Hartmut,

Am 2009-06-15 09:22:24, schrieb Helmut Grohne:
 Thanks for your quick answer.

Could you give any reference for this statement? The statement is
 practically untrue.

This is from the RFC's about Mailheaders, and it is also written, that
the the receiver should not expect, that ALL headers are available.

Also messages are often needed verbatim (for instance for reporting
spam). Why should a message change, only because it got moved from one
 mailbox to another?

The message is changed the first time when you access it and I even
have not accessed a message and found Content-Lenght: header in
message which where only accessed by libnet-imap-simple-perl. I do not
believe, the perllib has put the header into the message.

Are you sure, it is mutt who is adding the Content-Lenght: header?

Fortunately the patch only improves the situation: There is no point in
adding these headers for Maildir or imap and other storages are
unchanged. (It would also save about 1MB diskspace for me.)

Ehm, with one header?

I asume, 32 Bytes per message which mean 32k messages. I feel this like
a joke... I have on my server arround 48 million messages and it is only
1.4 GByte.

And I do not belive the 32bytes additional size will hit your filesystem
be exceeding the blocksize usage... e.g. 32k msg * 4kB/block = 128MByte

Now we have to find out why it can't locate Functions.pm

For me i could recover the problem now with:
  apt-get purge rarian-compat
  apt-get install rarian-compat

Bug#532970: jocaml and use topfind

2009-06-15 Thread Mehdi Dogguy
Guillaume Yziquel a écrit :
 Mehdi Dogguy a écrit :

This another bug. The point of Guillaume is that #use topfind is not
working not that the toplevel library doesn't work. I admit that the two
problems are related but somehow completely different.

My point was indeed that the topfind script relies on the toploop.cmi
interface. Not finding in jocaml, it looks for it in ocaml.

Ack. But it wasn't clear…

Next upload of JoCaml will (at least) install the toplevel library
(already fixed in Git).
I'll look at the ocamlfind problem when I find time. I'm leaving this
bug open as a reminder.

Cheers,

  Nope, works as expected:
You have different libs than we all have. Ours shows:
 | open(/dev/urandom, O_RDONLY) = 3
 | read(3, \34\344C\242, 4) = 4
 | close(3)= 0

Oh wait! Yes, I now see what you mean. Indeed glibc seems to fetch bytes
from urandom each invocation.
Thanks for your support!

Bug#533162: gnome-terminal: gnome terminal complains when exiting with a running ssh session

2009-06-15 Thread Christoph Hellwig
Package: gnome-terminal
Version: 2.26.2-1
Severity: important

When closing a gnome-terminal through the window manage close button
while running a ssh session it requires a highly annoying confirmation
to really close it. This makes gnome-terminal unuseable for managing
lots of temporary remote ssh sessions. Before the last update from the
testing repositories this behaviour was not present.

Bug#533163: nvidia-glx: fails to start Xserver after upgrade to 185.18.14-1 with unknown reason

2009-06-15 Thread Jakub Lucký
Package: nvidia-glx
Version: 185.18.14-1
Severity: important

After yesterday's upgrade of nvidia-glx 185.18.14-1 (and of course building new
nvidia-kernel-source module) , my Xserver fails to start. I am using Thinkpad
T61 with Nvidia Quadro 140

It looks like it's normally starting, for about five times Nvidia logo flashes
over screen, but always disappears and after about a minute Xserver dialog
about start failure appears

Adding Xorg log and my xorg.conf, though I am still using it

My Xserver works when started with command startx by root (user is not
privileged and I don't know how to fix this) _or_ with vesa driver instead of
nvidia (but in horrible 800x600 resolution)

Thanks
Jakub

Bug#533166: gdmflexiserver fails silently

2009-06-15 Thread Todd A. Jacobs
Package: gdm
Version: 2.20.9-1
Severity: important

Attempting to run a nested desktop with:

/usr/share/gdm/applications/gdmflexiserver-xnest.desktop

fails silently. The same is true when using the System-Log Out-Switch
User menu option in GNOME.

I was unable to locate any error messages in any system logs, as the
default audit level in the gdm configuration appears to be 0. However,
some manual investigation with both Xnest and Xephyr shows that this is
some kind of authorization error:

$ Xnest :22  xterm -display :22

[2] 19633

/usr/share/fonts/X11/cyrillic, removing from list!

host (uid 2000)
No protocol specified
xterm Xt error: Can't open display: :22

Note that XAUTHORITY is in the environment, and that this error is true
whether xhost is allowing all hosts or not. The only way to get Xnest or
Xephyr on my system to run is by passing the -ac flag, which turns off
all access control, which is not really what a reasonable person would
want.

Bug#533165: FTBFS with current RPM

2009-06-15 Thread Michal Čihař
Package: dose2
Version: 1.4.1-1
Severity: serious

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

You package fails to build from source with RPM 4.7.0. This new version
slightly changes API and moves to using standard C99 data types instead
of own integer definitions.

As Fedora 11 already ships rpm 4.7, you might be able to find fixes
there. In case you have questions, feel free to ask me, I will try to
help you.

Build log is attached.

Bug#526489: Re: Bug#526489: Time to orphan eclipse? (Bug#526489: eclipse: should this package be orphaned?)

2009-06-15 Thread Markus Knauer
Hi *,

can I be of any help?

I don't think that I have the time to take over the entire packaging of
Eclipse in Debian - at least not at the moment, but I can offer to help and
advice anyone who would be willing to do this. I am building all those
packages that you can download from eclipse.org/downloads and we are just a
few days away from the next major release - Galileo. So, maybe not the best
moment to 'orphan' Eclipse in Debian. Personally I think it would be great
to have a newer version of Eclipse and its tools in Debian.

Or did you contact one of the persons of the Linux Distro Project? Maybe
they have some resources they can spend on that?

Regards, Markus

Third and last warning, I will orphan eclipse next saturday (20th June), so
 if
somebody from the Java team is interested, please step up now. Usually, I
would have orphaned the package already, but I was hoping from somebody
 from the
team take over it. Sadly, I did not get a word from any of the uploaders (a

 the
 team.

For the record, even if the last version we have in Debian is 3.2.2, there
 was
some work done (from one year ago) in the SVN for the version 3.4:

Bug#531515: [Pkg-ia32-libs-maintainers] Processed: Re: Bug#531515: ia32-apt-get: breaks dpkg --control (= 1.15.1) and debsums

2009-06-15 Thread Axel Beckert
Hi Goswin,

Goswin von Brederlow schrieb am Fri, Jun 12, 2009 at 09:20:32PM +0200:
thank you for starcing the problem. Too me it looks like debsums calls
dpkg-deb in an undocumented (although not uncommon for tools in
 general) way:

I don't think it's debsums. Debsums calls dpkg without --, see line
491 of debsums:

491 system 'dpkg', '--control', $deb, $control

But it doesn't call dpkg-deb, but dpkg (which is ok) and dpkg adds
this -- since 1.15.1.

 4: /usr/bin/dpkg-deb --control --
 /var/cache/apt/archives/bzip2_1.0.5-2_amd64.deb /tmp/gD4mFRK2gm/DEBIAN

According to the manpage the syntax is:

 -e, --control archive [directory]

There is no mention in the docs that dpkg-deb supports --.

Then it's a bug that it's not documented anywhere else than in the
dpkg 1.15.1 changelog entry:

  * When dpkg delegates to dpkg-query or dpkg-deb to do the actual work, add
the -- marker to explicitely document the end of options so that
arguments starting with a dash are not interpreted as options.
Closes: #293163
Thanks to Bill Allombert for the patch.

Your patch isn't correct though, at least not complete. Think of this
 invocation:

 dpkg-deb --control -- /var/cache/apt/archives/bzip2_1.0.5-2_amd64.deb

There you are right. Missed that one.

In that case, despite having 3 arguments, the DIR has to default to
$(pwd)/DEBIAN. I guess there is no way around fully scanning the
arguments and counting the valid bits.

Looks so to me now, too. :-/

Regards, Axel

Bug#525893: wicd: claims to be connected to wired network when actually on wireless

2009-06-15 Thread David Paleino
Hello Zack,

On Mon, 27 Apr 2009 11:00:26 -0700, Zack Weinberg wrote:

 Package: wicd
 Version: 1.5.9-5
 Severity: normal

Recently, wicd has started claiming that the active network is wired,
even when it isn't. It's very obvious - you pick a wireless network,
and it goes through the entire connection sequence correctly, and then
it says ok! I'm connected to the wired network. All the user interfaces
 are consistent in this error.

Would you please test the package from experimental? I didn't see this
behaviour with 1.5.9-5, and am not seeing it in 1.6.0-2~pre1. Maybe something's
wrong in your setup?

Before asking more, please try out the new package. It might be an
already-fixed bug :)

David
