Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.31-1
Severity: important

When installing on lenny, linux-image-2.6.31-1-amd64 generates
lots of warnings with wrong modules paths.
Looks like firmware check is not working.

Bug#552394: febootstrap fails during rpm_check_debug

The package needs. It should then depend on the version in
 Debian/experimental.

That's debatable: The repository that you are trying to install needs
that updated RPM. febootstrap itself doesn't need it.

If there's some Debian policy around this please let me know.

Bug#552611: watchdog: file handle is inherited by sendmail

2009-10-28 Thread Russell Coker
Package: watchdog
Version: 5.4-10
Severity: normal

The following patch sets the socket handle for raw socket access to close on
exec. This means that when popen is used to spawn sendmail the sendmail
process won't inherit the file handle.

I don't know if this is the only file handle that might be inappropriately
inherited, but it's the only one that appeared in my tests.

 sorry for the noise

You should not expect that USB disks will be found and assigned names in
any particular order. You should specify partitions by label or UUID
instead of device name.

Ben.

Ben, it's a bug. At least formally. A capricious swap between harddrives
that hangs the system it's a bug I think, overall if the debian
installer assign mounts in /etc/fstab by device and not by label or UUID.

Or the d-i mounts the devices by UUID (so bug in d-i) or this is a bug
in the updating the kernel (perhaps it's not the kernel bug itself but
yes the process of updating)

But, don't mind me. I'm just a desktop user (ironicaly) ;-)

Regards,
Xan.

Bug#505291: add an option for starting splashy early

2009-10-28 Thread Michal Suchanek hramr...@centrum.cz
Package: splashy
Severity: normal

Perhaps the splashy scripts could check for 'noresume' or other
appropriate option and start splashy early when that option is present?

I am using splashy with debian-live and since this change most of the
boot time (which is spent by searching for the live filesystem) splashy is not
active.

Bug#463553: corrections at debian partners page

2009-10-28 Thread Andre Felipe Machado
Hello,
I found an emergency workaround.
If debian.css defines partnerlogo as a fixed width (300px is enough for the
biggest logo) instead of a proportional width, then page renders correct:

div.partnerlogo {
display: table-cell;
vertical-align: middle;
text-align: center;
width: 300px;
}

I am not a css expert, so if you have a better solution, go ahead and deploy it.
Regards.

I don't see why iasl would not be able to run on any architecture,
it's just a compiler for byte-code. We ported it some time ago, but
it seems it has regressed in the latest upload (probably problems with
unaligned accesses or little endian assumptions, as before).

yeah, dispite the fact that the patch applied, there were other changes
that are causing a consistent segfault.

I might try to take a look at fixing it, but not now. Anyway regarding
bochs, it's not really a problem as iasl is only used when building
architecture independent packages, thus the Build-Depends-Indep.

I tried debugging it when the bug first appeared after I uploaded the
package with not much success but now I'm definitely lacking the time to
look at it.
As an emergency fix, if it's not a big deal for bochs, disabling the
failing architectures is an option.

Bug#552615: Wrong configuration file in /usr/share/redmine/vendor/rails/railties/lib/commands/dbconsole.rb:17

2009-10-28 Thread Lluis Vilanova
Package: redmine
Version: 0.9.0~svn2907-1
Severity: normal

This file assumes configuration file is in
RAILS_ROOT + /config/database.yml
which expands into
/usr/share/redmine/config/database.yml
whereas debian places the default database configuration file into
/etc/redmine/default/database.yml

Thus, the script should get the path from
config.database_configuration_file
defined in
/usr/share/redmine/config/environment.rb
or any other environment-specific configuration file.

Sorry for not providing a patch, but my ruby knowledge is, at most, unexistent.

Bug#514260: linux-image-2.6.26-1-amd64: kernel does not support multiple, not similarm soundcards

2009-10-28 Thread Olaf Zevenboom
Hi Ben,

Thanks for the reply.
Situation is as follows:
my motherboard has an onboard soundcard. I own several PCI card soundcards.
I tried them all, all to the same result. If I have besides the onboard card
one PCI soundcard in the system (so 2 soundcards in total) the sound system
does not give a sound at all on any card. All mixer settings are lost. I
have to run alsaconf on every occasion to enable sound on the onboard
card. IIRC (but it has been a while since I tested) sound on the PCI cards
never works.
The issue seems to be driver related as dmesg contains errors before I do a
thing. I think the issue kicks in the moment the driver for a PCI card is
loaded and it starts conflicting with the onboard card.
On the first releases of 2.6.26 stock kernel things worked fine. All kernels
since then / up till now have this issue including the kernel currently
shipped with Lenny.

Regards
Olaf

Sorry for the delay in answering your bug report.

It is no longer possible (earlier releases of 2.6.26 allowed for this
as it should) to have 2 (different) soundcards active. After booting
alsaconf must be run to reconfigure a soundcard to enable and unmute
  it.
Tested with 2 different Soundblaster Cards drivers besides the
  onboard ac97 soundcard.

Do you mean that mixer settings are not correctly restored to two cards
 of one type?

Bug#552616: libvorbis0a: cutting files via the Python bindings fails: ogg.OggError: lost sync

2009-10-28 Thread Eike von Seggern
Package: libvorbis0a
Version: 1.2.3-3
Severity: normal

Hello,

I'm using oggscissors.py to recalculate the granulepos of files recorded
with streamripper:
oggscissors.py infile.ogg outfile.ogg

Using version 1.2.0.dfsg-3.1 of the libvorbis* packages this works fine.
However updating to 1.2.3-3 breaks the above and I get the following
Python error message:

oggscissors.py infile.ogg outfile.ogg
[...]
Dumping pages 3
Counting packets
Traceback (most recent call last):
File ./oggscissors.py, line 377, in module

count, pages, packets, grskip, 1)
  File ./oggscissors.py, line 108, in copy_packets
total_packets = count_packets(fin) - skip_packets
  File ./oggscissors.py, line 85, in count_packets
p = instream.packetout()
ogg.OggError: lost sync

I don't know if this is due to a deficiency in the python bindings. I
tried the available versions of the python-ogg and python-pyvorbis
packages without success. So I guess it's a problem in the C library
itself.

I attached the oggscissors.py script. The ogg file can be found under

http://eeh06.physik.hu-berlin.de/~vseggern/libvorbisbug/infile.ogg

Thank you and

Many C++ developers miss an easy and portable way of handling Unicode encoded

agnostic, and while some work is being done to introduce Unicode to the next
incarnation called C++0x, for the moment nothing of the sort is available. In

Ah OK. A short mention of this would be nice, then. Just in case people
used kernel-package in the past and wondered where that functionality

I'll remove item 12 from the man page.

And the mention under the debian target in make-kpkg(1) too, please.

I was looking into enabling the testsuite in Ubuntu, and the attached diff will
do so. Thought you might be interested in doing the same.

However, running it, there were 14 failures. Presumably those are upstream
failures.

So obviously, this patch shouldn't be applied without also fixing those
failures. But ideally both would happen. :)

Bug#552622: libtorrent-rasterbar: please add a -nossl flavour of the package

2009-10-28 Thread Marco Amadori
Source: libtorrent-rasterbar
Version: 0.14.6-1
Severity: wishlist

Hi,
I'm packaging springlobby for debian (ITP #550250) which depends on
libtorrent-rasterbar; even if SpringLobby does not use directly openssl the
final binary will end linking it because it links this library.

I asked SpringLobby upstream to change license to include the openssl
exception but the have troubles in asking all contributors about this license
update and since they are not using ssl they asked me to link springlobby to a
ssl free version of libtorrent-rasterbar, which is not available in debian
yet.

Spring is a really modern and beautiful 3D RTS game, would you like to help me
in having it properly available for debian users by providing a libtorrent-
rasterbar-nossl binary package please?

Many thanks.

P.S. a -gnutls version probably would be better but I think this will
require more work than just extending the packaging, so I'll be fine with just
a -nossl flavour.

Bug#494386: wontfix, workaround available

2009-10-28 Thread Thomas Lange
Tags: wontfix

I think it's not that easy to make the location configurable
especially using different protocols. Therefore I wont fix it.

I describe how to get a workaround using a hook. This hook could also
use wget for downloading the basefile from a http server and just put
it into the $fai/basefiles directory, since this directory is
writeable by the install client.

Bug#534314: openoffice.org: use -nolog instead of -no-oosplash

It seems that using -nologo instead of -no-oosplash in /etc/mailcap

 No, it doesn't.

You are right. I think that I was a bit too rapid to answer to the bug,
and did not look at it thoroughly enough.

Since I have access to some systems under which openoffice works as
expected, I spent a few hours trying to figure out where the problem can
be.

I checked the versions of the installed packages (kernel, xorg,
libraries, etc.), straced soffice.bin, ran it under gdb, but could not
see anything. I even ran it through a ssh tunnel with no difference.
It works or fails consistently, depending of the system it is running
on, and independently of the X server.

The only evident difference between the systems is the architecture:
openoffice seems to work on amd64, and to fail on i386. But I am not
sure that it is not only a coincidence.

Without building it myself, I do not know what to look next. The build
requirements (cpu/ram/disk/dependencies) are however too high for me.

Regards,

Arnaud

That is the first I hear now and it is, sorry, completely inacceptable.
That would end to not having sound at all!

As already mentioned via private e-mail: The best approach would be to
make sure audacity works fine with pulseaudio.

This way, the pulseaudio integration would be honored, and pulseaudio
provides modules for OSS.

Bug#552624: git-dch: use last released version automatically

2009-10-28 Thread Felipe Sateler
Package: git-buildpackage
Version: 0.4.59
Severity: wishlist

A pretty common workflow is the following:

1- Work on the package
2- Upload
3- Import new upstream version
4- Create changelog entry for local testing
5- Some more work
6- Upload

This works like a charm with --auto. However, when steps 3 and 5 are in
another order (eg, you fixed something and then updated the new upstream
version), git-dch misses all the entries from before the new changelog
entry. A way to pick up all the changes since the last released version
would be gratly appreciated.
I'm thinking this can be done by making git-dch ignore changelog
versions marked as UNRELEASED to guess the version (and thus having to
use -s), but that would mean having to parse debian/changelog instead of
using dpkg-parsechangelog.

Bug#552625: apt-ftparchive: Does not allow generation of multiversion Packages files

2009-10-28 Thread Tyler MacDonald
Package: apt-utils
Version: 0.7.22.2
Severity: normal

Hi,

There does not appear to be any way to instruct apt-ftparchive to generate
multiversion package files. I consider this a bug and not a wishlist item
because the documentation states,

apt-ftparchive is a superset of the dpkg-scanpackages(8) program,
incorporating its entire functionality via the packages command. It
also contains a contents file generator, contents, and an elaborate
means to ´script´ the generation process for a complete archive.

and dpkg-scanpackages has a --multiversion option.

Either apt-ftparchive should be fixed to support multiversion Pacakges
files (this would be the preferred option IMHO), or the documentation needs
to be updated to reflect that apt-ftparchive is actually a subset of the
dpkg-scanpackages program.

  Thanks,
Tyler

Bug#409849: AFNI packaging now cmake-based and with afni-dev

2009-10-28 Thread Michael Hanke
Hi,

I just pushed the changes for a new version of the AFNI packaging to
git.debian.org. It now uses a cmake-based buildsystem. The initial patch
was contributed by Bernd Feige and I further tweaked it to shrink the
size, add options for conditional building.

The Debian packaging now takes advantage of the increased flexibility
also provides a 'afni-dev' package with headers and _static_ libraries
for plugin development. The AFNI programs, however, use dynamic linking.
This allows for a dramatic reduction of the binary distribution to less
than 10% of the upstream distribution -- altogether less than 20MB
(including the altas data)!

I am currently building binary package for http://neuro/debian/net.

Please give it a try and tell me if it causes any problems.

Thanks,

Michael

I'm not a developer, sorry if this idea sounds absurd, but could this be a
problem with video memory ?

Because browsing the user's .xsession-error file, I can see many freezes
following errors from either gecko (mozilla), kpdf (kde pdf reader) or a line
with kernel/qpixmap_x11.cpp, line 750: Out of memory

And Mozilla and Kpdf are know to use the X server memory for caching.

In gnome-session-bin 2.28.0-1 it does not include the file

that accessibility can be started. It was included in previous versions of

package into the location accessibility was able to work again. Please include

Bug#541623: I have exactly the same problem

2009-10-28 Thread Pedro Ribeiro
Package: gnome-power-manager
Version: 2.24.4-3
Severity: normal

I have the same problem as the poster above. g-p-m doesn't respect the DPMS
settings in the Power Management section of gnome-control-center. It completely
ignores my DPMS settings. Running xset -q returns
DPMS (Energy Star):
  Standby: 0Suspend: 0Off: 0
Even after setting 10 minutes as the monitor shutoff time.
I'm using squeeze and this problem appeared a few months ago. My gnome package
versions are also mismatched as with the poster above.
gnome-power-manager v2.24.4-3
gnome-session v2.26.2-1
gnome-screensaver v2.28.0-1
gnome-settings-daemon v2.26.1-2

I know we must be subjected to this in testing but if you be great if you could
somehow keep gnome packages from migrated alone.

Bug#552412: More info as requested

2009-10-28 Thread SteveM
Hi Jonas,

Thanks for taking the time on this. I guessed it would be hard to
reproduce, since the other 2 kernels show no problems. A diff of the
configs between 6.2.30-1 30-2 showed nothing. Yet, 6.2.30-2
consistantly fails to boot while 30-1 works as always. Both are stock
Debian kernels. I reinstalled 6.2.30-2 but no change. Not that I
expected any. I figured it couldn't hurt.

Here's my pretty accurate transcript of the boot messages (wrapped)
...
Enter passphrase: entered
[ 18.000811] device-mapper: ioctl: unable to remove open device
temporary-cryptsetup-658
device mapper: remove ioctl failed: Device or resource busy
Key slot 0 unlocked
File descriptor 3 (conf/conf.d/cryptroot) leaked on lvm invocation.
Parent PID 652: /bin/sh
  Volume group vulteeVG not found
done.
Begin: waiting for root file system... long pause done.
Gave up waiting for root device. Common problems:
  - Boot args (cat /proc/cmdline)
- Check rootdelay= (did the system wait long enough?)
- Check root= (did the system wait for the right device?)
  - Missing modules: (cat /proc/modules; ls /dev)
Alert! /dev/mapper/vulteeVG-rootLV does not exist. Dropping to a shell.

busybox info ... then the (initramfs): prompt.

Really not much info here. I see the leaked on invocation message with
the other kernels so I figure it's not significant.

Let me know if I can supply any other info.

Steve

Bug#534912: Workaround posted by upstream

2009-10-28 Thread Ramon van Alteren
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi,

I can confirm the bug on kolab, which uses dotted folders for it's shared imap
folders: shared.mysharedfolder

However $UPSTREAM has a ticket which lists a workaround:
http://dev.mutt.org/trac/ticket/3242

If you :set imap_delim_chars='/'

you can access the mailboxes with dots in them.

Regards,

Ramon

Bug#552402: etherboot: separate package for roms useful to qemu/kvm

2009-10-28 Thread RISKÓ Gergely
On Mon, 26 Oct 2009 12:36:01 -0700, Vagrant Cascadian vagr...@freegeek.org
writes:

understandable. using the logic that the proposed new etherboot
package would only include roms useful to virtual machines also
present in the archive could hopefully keep the scope of the package
 sane.

If I understand correctly, the problems are:
   - etherboot ships with rom.gz, which is not usable by qemu, (major)
   - etherboot installed package size is 32MB (minor).

I don't think we have to solve the second point, everyone who is using a
virtualization system can afford the files to be installed, I think a
new binary package is a bigger bloat in this case. (For everyone, even
for users, who doesn't know or care about what etherboot or qemu/kvm
is.)

We can solve the first problem in different ways:
   - via a new binary package which contains the mentioned roms
 uncompressed,
   - adding libz support to qemu, (how hard this would be?)
   - ship the mentioned roms in the etherboot package uncompressed.

If option 2 is too hard, I prefer option 3. What is your opinion, it is
a little change in the binary package, nobody will really notice and
only affect people who have etherboot installed.

After this change, kvm/qemu can recommmend on etherboot if they want to
use the roms for pxe support (or depend on it if having the roms are
mandatory for kvm/qemu to even start up).

Bug#426294: anacron: fails to start if on battery

2009-10-28 Thread Peter Eisentraut
We now have the functionality that anacron runs on power status change.
It might still be worthwhile to implement a configuration setting that
makes anacron always run whether on AC power or not, but I think the
severity of this problem is now much lower. Basically, you will only be
affected if you always run your laptop on battery and only charge while
it's off.

 Hi,

  Thus closing.

I do not think that the bug should be closed just because it cannot be
fixed with the current enet package. IMO it should at least be kept
open as a reminder that there is still an embedded code copy.

enet in unstable has been updated to version 1.2. I do not know if this
version is recent enough to replace the snapshot used by sauerbraten.
I gave it a shot to force sauerbraten link against libenet in Debian,
but I didn't succeed and it turned out to be a not as trivial like
modifying its Makefile and #include's for at least two reasons:

1. API/ABI differs between enet in Debian and enet in sauerbraten
2. sauerbraten uses enet internal functions and variables :( *argh*

I'll keep on hammering on sauerbraten to see if we manage to fix that
issue...

Cheers - Fuddl

Bug#552663: gnome-shell: hide selected entries in recently used files list

2009-10-28 Thread Rémi Letot
Package: gnome-shell
Version: 2.28.1~git20091024-1
Severity: wishlist

Hello,

similar to #552457, exposing my entire recently used files list might
represent a privacy problem.

It should be possibile to selectively remove individual entries, but
also to ban things (selected files, urls, conversations,...) from ever
appearing there.

The selection should be possible on an individual basis, but also based
on a larger criterion (FS hierarchies, whole web sites, or sections of
web sites,...)

I know it's not there yet, but the mecanism should also apply to
zeitgeist.

Thanks,

Bug#512777: Upstream --enable-libabiword violates Debian Policy §10.2

2009-10-28 Thread Patrik Fimml
Hi Jonas,

On Mon, Oct 26, 2009 at 01:45:43PM +0100, Patrik Fimml wrote:
As a result of the mentioned discussion, I did some packaging work too
in July 2009, starting the repository from scratch, following some of
the various git packaging recommendations. Part of this is using topgit
 instead of dpatch.

 Oh, ok.

I use quilt, not dpatch (ar actually, I do not actually use the quilt
helper tools but compose patch files by hand and only use the
 cdbs-wrapped packaging routines of quilt).

I might have mentioned topgit myself back then, but have since (after
struggling with similar repackaging of ghostscript) given up on using
topgit and am now sceptical about its usefulnes for Debian packaging.

Nevertheless, I would still be quite interested in looking at your
packaging efforts. Is it accessible at some public Git somehwere?

Not yet, will be made public soon-ish. I'll give you a temporary
repository location to take a peek at in a private mail.

I think 2.7.6 (with which I started packaging from scratch) is in a
somewhat working stage in my repo, and after mhatta and joshk seem to
have lost interest (see also debian bug #548365), I intended to give
packaging 2.8.0 a try from what I have with 2.7.6 when it comes out the
 next days.

Oh - so you have actually taken over packaging of Abiword now. Nice to
 know.

Apparently. Somehow I slipped into that. ;-)

Now you've stepped up to the plan again ;-)

Actually I would appreciate not having to work on Abiword - I maintain
approx. 100 packages already. My interest in Abiword is only the
 library, not the main application.

But if you feel that you could need my help, and are ok with using
git-buildpackage, cdbs and quilt and avoiding topgit (or convincing me
that topgit is great for packaging - including regenerating patches for
stable and oldstable security branches), then it makes sense to continue
discussing this. Else you just go ahead with your plans and I step down
 again.

I gave packaging 2.8.0 a go yesterday evening (to see if I get in any
major hassle) and it went quite well so far. As I am not a DD, even if I
officially maintain the package, I'd still need someone to look over the
final package and upload it -- would you maybe agree to do that?

Bug#530028: update on 530028

2009-10-28 Thread debian
I've verified that the 2009 Oct. 16 release of binutils, binutils-2.20, fixes
this bug.
I've tested on both Debian Squeeze and various Ubuntu systems.

Where can I find the actual implementations of the languages?

Bug#537299: base: user deletes files without write permission, partition full

  Thanks for your reply,

  I guess you're right.
It hadn't occurred to me yet that it could have happened at the moment of
opening the second time when I did have writing permission.

So this is indeed probably not a security problem.

reassigning to vim. it's likely a corner case that's difficult and
just not interesting to deal with (user's should know that lack of
disk space often leads to unexpected badness). but you can see what they
 have to say about it.

There appears to be two problems here.

First, the Unable to create a swapfile, recovery will be impossible!
message didn't require any user interaction to dismiss. Although
there's a chance this wasn't displayed (swapfiles disabled, swapfile
created on different non-full partition), it should definitely require
the user to dismiss the message when it does occur.

I'm not as sure about this as I seem to have been when I sent the last
mail. There are various reasons that a swapfile might not be created
and the presence (or lack thereof) doesn't help in the given scenario.
That is, writing out the blank buffer and then exiting Vim means the
swapfile, if one was created, has been deleted.

Second, the user should not have been presented with a blank buffer
which they could save, thus destroying the original file. Whatever
error condition caused the blank buffer to be displayed should also flag
the buffer as read-only. The only other time I've seen a blank buffer
when the file wasn't empty is when trying to load a multi-GB file in Vim
and interrupting the load process with ^C.

I have been able to reproduce this scenario and it looks like Vim either
isn't handling or is mishandling the ENOSPC error condition when it
tries to create the swapfile which somehow leads to presenting a blank
 buffer to the user.

Trying this again in a more appropriate environment (VM instead of an
lvm snapshot), I'm unable to reproduce the blank buffer. I get the
Unable to create a swapfile message, but then the buffer correctly
displays the file.

My previous success with reproducing the problem was probably related
to the way everything fails when using an lvm snapshot smaller than the
base volume and exceeding the capacity of the snapshot.

Any extra information on how to reproduce the actual problem would be
appreciated.

Bug#552668: debian-rules-missing-required-target binary-arch

2009-10-28 Thread Manoj Srivastava
Package: kernel-patch-badram
Version: 2.6.28.2-1
Severity: serious
User: lintian-ma...@debian.org

Justification: The debian/rules file for this package does not provide one of

Bug#552665: RFP: Zumastor -- Zumastor is Free software that adds enterprise storage features (primarily improved snapshots and remote replication) to Linux.

2009-10-28 Thread Brent Clark
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist

* Package name: Zumastor
  Version : 0.8
Upstream Author : Dan Kegel d...@kegel.com
* URL : http://zumastor.org/
* License : (GPL)
  Programming Lang: (C, C++, C#, Perl, Python)
Description : Zumastor is Free software that adds enterprise storage
features (primarily improved snapshots and remote replication) to Linux.

It has been difficult to convince users of commercial NAS applicances to switch
to Linux. In particular, some commercial NAS boxes have had better support for
snapshots and remote replication than Linux does. Zumastor is an effort to fix
that.
2.1. Snapshots

Snapshots can be useful as part of an hourly backup system. Instead of shutting
down all applications for the entire duration of the backup, you can shut them
down for just the second or two needed to take a snapshot.

If your goal is to protect users from accidental deletion of files, you may
want to take snapshots every hour, and leave the last few snapshots around;
users who accidentally delete a file can just look in the snapshot.

LVM already lets administrators create snapshots, but its design has the
surprising property that every block you change on the original volume consumes
one block for each snapshot. The resulting speed and space penalty usually
makes the use of more than one or two snapshots at a time impractical.

Zumastor keeps all snapshots for a particular volume in a common snapshot
store, and shares blocks the way one would expect. Thus making a change to one
block of a file in the original volume only uses one block in the snapshot
store no matter how many snapshots you have.
2.2. Remote Replication

Andrew Tridgell's rsync is a wonderful tool for replicating files remotely.
However, when doing periodic replication of large numbers of infrequently
changing files, the overhead for figuring out what files need to be sent can be
extreme.

Zumastor keeps track of which block change between one snapshot and the next,
and can easily send just the changed blocks. Thus Zumastor can do frequent
replication of large filesystems much more efficiently than rsync can.

those contain the history of the font developing.

 /usr/share/texmf/doc/fonts/tex-gyre/q*hist*, right? OK, found it.

Should we add a symlink from /u/s/d/tex-gyre/Changelog to that file?
