Bug#557957: pootle: diff for NMU version 1.2.1-4.1

Could you prepare a patch for the trunk in subversion? There is a new version being packaged there. Is the patch I attached not clear? it applies quite cleanly (except for changelog (not important, filterdiff it out) and setup.py install (different context)). Also you can read it and cutpaste the changes, they are really minimal. Please consider switching from python-central to python-support, I have no opinion on this, but as long as python-central exists, I see no reason to do this. There are reasons python-involved people are suggesting this to you: python-central is barely maintainer (for example, look at #559206), it tends to be broken and sometimes fails on packages upgrades. OTOH, python-support has a reactive maintainer, it just does the right thing, and it contains routines for handling corner cases not covered by python-central. Feel free to use the helper you prefer: but seriously consider the switch. and to join the Python Application Packaging Team or Debian Python Modules Team to maintain your python-related packages with those teams. pootle has already a repository. I won't have time to make such conversion. (conversion is just a svn-inject -o url pkg.dsc and change Vcs-* but no problem) pootle has one but other (I used 'packages') don't (at least Vcs-* are not used): python-jtoolkit, python-levenshtein . Bug#559314: [lldpd] #31: lldpd reports incorrect maximum frame size
#31: lldpd reports incorrect maximum frame size ---+ Reporter: bernat | Owner: bernat Type: defect | Status: new Priority: minor | Component: core Version: 0.4.1 |Keywords: ---+ Reported by Ben Harris in [http://bugs.debian.org/559314 #559314]. According to Wireshark, the LLDPDUs transmitted by lldpd include a Maximum Frame Size TLV indicating a frame size of 1500 octets. This is incorrect: According to IEEE Std 802.1AB-2005 (clause G.5.1): a) If the MAC/PHY supports only the basic MAC frame format as defined in 3.1.1 of IEEE Std 802.3-2002, the maximum frame size field shall be set to 1518. b) If the MAC/PHY supports an extension of the basic MAC frame format for Tagged MAC frames as defined 3.5 of IEEE 802.3-2002, the maximum frame size field shall be set to 1522. c) If the MAC/PHY supports an extension of the MAC frame format that is different from either of the above, the maximum frame size field shall be set to the maximum value supported. Thus, lldpd should set this field to 1518, 1522, or some other number depending on the network driver's support for tagged VLANs and jumbo frames. 1500 is definitely wrong, and it would be better for lldpd not to include this TLV at all than to transmit incorrect information. -- Ticket URL: https://trac.luffy.cx/lldpd/ticket/31 lldpd https://trac.luffy.cx/lldpd/ implementation of IEEE 802.1ab (LLDP)

Bug#559247: mplayer: Displays wrong duration for some vbr mp3 files.
Philipp Weis pw...@pweis.com writes: Package: mplayer Version: 1.0~rc3+svn20090405-1 Severity: normal For some variable bitrate mp3 files, mplayer displays the wrong duration. I created a sample file and put it online here: http://pweis.com/stuff/vbr-sample.mp3 The file is a 11 second recording of noise, compressed with lame -v in.wav out.mp3 Mplayer, using the default mp3lib (-ac mp3), says the file is 8 seconds long, but it is 11 seconds. with -ac ffmp3, the correct duration is shown. I couldn't figure out what library mp3lib refers to, so please reassign if appropriate. mplayer can either use an internal mp3 implementation (subdirectory 'mp3lib' in the sources, or use the ffmpeg implementation. With the switch -ac you can choose which implementation to use. Looking at the upstream commits, there have been done a lot of commits in mp3lib/ since the mplayer rc3. Next steps for this bug: compile mplayer from svn trunk and check if the problem has been fixed upstream. If yes, then bisect the commits until the fix is found. Any takers? Updating the mplayer package at this point makes only sense when the ffmpeg package is updated as well. Bug#559513: plasma-widgets-workspace should recommend cpufrequtils
The power management plasmoid contained in plasma-widgets-workspace has the ability to switch between supported CPU policies (More... - Capabilities). However, this requires that the relevant kernel modules that implement these policies are loaded; otherwise no CPU policies are available. Loading the relevant kernel modules is the job of the cpufrequtils package. Hence, plasma-widgets-workspace should recommend the cpufrequtils package to the user when being installed. Hello First, the recommend should be put on the kdebase-workspace-bin package, as the component responsible for power management is powerdevil (in kdebase- workspace) and not plasma (which is just an interface to the daemon). I agree that /etc/init.d/loadcpufreq is in the cpufrequtils package and is the easier way to ensure the governor modules are loaded, although powerdevil doesn't use /usr/bin/cpufreq* Regards -- Xavier Vello signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part.
Bug#559548: piuparts: ignore ucf files on purge after depends have been purged
Package: piuparts Version: 0.37 Severity: normal Hi, if a package uses ucf it will be reported as buggy, because the purge test purges all depends (including ucf) and the package is therefore unable to unregister its configuration files from ucf. This will leave changed files in /var/lib/ucf. I'm more then unhappy that this is the situation, but as we are not allowed to mess with other packages files there is no possibility to workaround it. Bug#559553: Do not repass pbuilder-only pbuilderrc options to command line
Package: cowbuilder Version: 0.60 Severity: normal Hello, cowbuilder parses pbuilder-only pbuilderrc options in parameter.c:load_config_file() and later repasses them as command line options to the internal pbuilder calls. For example, DEBBUILDOPTS gets passed as --debbuildopts command line option to pbuilder call. There are numerous issues with this behaviour: 1) pbuilder shell-expands DEBBUILDOPTS= when passing it to dpkg-buildpackage. On the contrary, --debbuildopts is interpreted as a single dpkg-buildpackage option. Therefore, DEBBUILDOPTS=-j3 -b works file, but --debbuildopts -j3 -b fails with unknown option or argument '-j3 -b'. Therefore, my DEBBUILDOPTS that contains multiple options do not work anymore. 2) --binary-arch combined with --debbuildopts does not work in pbuilder, because --debbuildopts overrides it. --binary-arch + DEBBUILDOPTS work fine. Again, cowbuilder repasses DEBBUILDOPTS as --debbuildopts and breaks --binary-arch. 3) This repassing is pretty useless. cowbuilder passes --configfile to pbuilder anyway, so the latter will figure out what to do with its config options by itself. In the end, smart cowbuilder repassing is reduntant. What's more, even cowbuilder(8) says that apart from a couple of configuration options, others should be ignored. -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (101, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.31-1-amd64 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=lt_LT.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=lt_LT.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages cowbuilder depends on: ii cowdancer 0.60 Copy-on-write directory tree utili ii libc6 2.10.2-2 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii pbuilder 0.194 personal package builder for Debia cowbuilder recommends no packages. cowbuilder suggests no packages. -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Some questions: ?xml version=1.0? !DOCTYPE fontconfig SYSTEM /etc/fonts/fonts.dtd fontconfig dir/usr/share/texmf-texlive/fonts/opentype/public/dir /fontconfig Does that mean that all fonts in *all* directories *below* /usr/share/texmf-texlive/fonts/opentype/public are added? Alternatively you could get /usr/share/texmf-texlive/fonts added to the default FontPath for xserver-xorg-core. Add a config file /etc/fonts/conf.avail/90-something.conf and a symlink to it in /etc/fonts/conf.d/. The config file should contain this: Sounds easier. Some questions: ?xml version=1.0? !DOCTYPE fontconfig SYSTEM /etc/fonts/fonts.dtd fontconfig dir/usr/share/texmf-texlive/fonts/opentype/public/dir /fontconfig Does that mean that all fonts in *all* directories *below* /usr/share/texmf-texlive/fonts/opentype/public are added? Correct, I think that is how fontconfig knows about /usr/share/fonts. That way we simply can add that config file in texlive-common and have all the fonts, whenever they are installed, automatically included? Right. Probably some fc-cache call are necessary? Correct for now, IIRC upstream/Fedora had a plan for fontconfig to automatically notice new fonts. I think that is in 2.8.0, which isn't yet in Debian (Keith Packard is working on it apparently). I would suggest using triggers to do that, fontconfig uses them to notify it about new fonts in these 3 directories: $ cat /var/lib/dpkg/info/fontconfig.triggers interest /usr/share/fonts interest /usr/share/ghostscript/fonts interest /usr/share/texmf/fonts Actually, you might just be able to get the directory added to fontconfig itself and let its triggers deal with that. Or move the fonts to /usr/share/texmf/fonts instead of /usr/share/texmf-texlive/fonts. Is there a debhelper dh_* for that? Not AFAIK. My recommendations from the above: * Poke the Debian XSF about the status of #539338 * Ask the Debian XSF to add your fonts to the Xorg default FontPath * Ask the fontconfig maintainers to add your font paths to the default configuration and add your font paths to the fontconfig triggers. OR * Move all your fonts into /usr/share/fonts -- bye, pabs http://wiki.debian.org/PaulWise signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part

This old version was indeed only taking snapshots. I'm completely happy with the current cpuspeed plugin provided by Debian. However it requires one graph pr. cpu and since interesting servers now have at least 4 or 6 cores this plugin is noisy - much like diskstat_. To be included it would either have to be set to manual or converted it to a cpuspeed multigraph plugin - with correct ds names for the to preserve data history. Bug#559559: can't select no localization

If I use America, USA instaed, then I can select between en_US and C in the following menu (as expected). This is a bad bug in the current version of localechooser. I'll fix it ASAP. 2) Due to wrong localization settings I am not allowed to select CET (or Europe/Berlin) in tzdata setup, either. I just get a restricted list of time zones to choose from (valid only in the US, as it seems). This is a consequence of the first issue, not a separate issue. You should be able to select Germany and that would automatically result in the correct timezone. 3) Aptitude shows that most packages were explicitly selected for install. d-i should make use of package dependencies instead, esp. for the lib* packages. This is a consequence of how debootstrap works and not an installer issue. I'm not sure that it can be fixed in debootstrap as one of the core attributes of debootstrap is that it sets up a base system *without* the use of package management tools. libunwind7-dev was installed by default. I would guess this is obsolete for a base system. The problem seems to be that the package has Priority: standard and thus gets installed automatically. Please file a separate bug report against libunwind7-dev as this is not a D-I issue. 4) I would prefer if grub doesn't include os-prober by default. This is a decision by the grub maintainers that is out of the hands of D-I developers. Please discuss it with them (or on debian-devel). This is the only possibilty that I see if we want to just modify package relationships; the other option would be to modify the grub script provided by memtest86+ to not do anything if we don't find the required files (which works for /usr/lib/grub/grub-mkconfig_lib, but it's harder to do for the linux16 support). So, I don't see a clear way to make this all work nicely. Any suggestions? These two should be split, and the linux16 tested via the presence of /usr/lib/grub/i386-pc/linux16.mod. But here we get very deep into details of grub, which is not really recommended - what if grub changes its internal paths tomorrow? And note the above shell script can be simplified :) This could be just: #!/bin/sh set -e if test -e /boot/memtest86+.bin ; then if test -r /usr/lib/grub/grub-mkconfig_lib ; then . /usr/lib/grub/grub-mkconfig_lib elif test -r /usr/lib/grub/update-grub_lib ; then . /usr/lib/grub/update-grub_lib else # no grub config file found exit 0 fi if test -f /usr/lib/grub/i386-pc/linux16.mod; then LX=linux16 else LX=linux fi MEMTESTPATH=$( make_system_path_relative_to_its_root /boot/memtest86+.bin ) echo Found memtest86+ image: $MEMTESTPATH 2 cat EOF menuentry Memory test (memtest86+) { EOF prepare_grub_to_access_device ${GRUB_DEVICE_BOOT} | sed -e s/^/\t/ cat EOF $LX $MEMTESTPATH } menuentry Memory test (memtest86+, serial console 115200) { EOF prepare_grub_to_access_device ${GRUB_DEVICE_BOOT} | sed -e s/^/\t/ cat EOF $LX $MEMTESTPATH console=ttyS0,115200n8 } EOF fi But again, I'm not sure which is best - conflicting with old grub versions, or going and depending on grub internal paths. iustin -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#559402: [Pkg-xfce-devel] Bug#559402: xfce4-panel: 'Editor' launcher freezes entire X session
Yves-Alexis Perez cor...@debian.org: Can you try to debug what is happening (like, if it's because there's a huge cpu usage, or if xfwm is stuck, or something like that). The entire session is in stopped state ('T' in ps). Killing joe and sending SIGCONT to the session actually recovers it. Can you try to install a graphical editor (like mousepad) and retry? I had it already installed, and no problems with it, of course. The thing is, there is no x-sensible-editor. So if you have no graphical editor, yes it'll fallback to terminal ones. But it works perfectly fine with vim and nano, afair. Never tried with joe though, so maybe that's the problem, not sure. Sensible-editor doesn't work this way. Unlike sensible-browser it doesn't prioritize X editors. Vim is X-aware, so no surprises here, and nano refuses to run if stdin is not a terminal: $ nano /dev/null Received SIGHUP or SIGTERM $ Joe doesn't (which is actually useful for running it as part of a pipeline), and as it is a terminal program, it ends messing the controlling terminal of the X session. Questions I can think of are: * Does any of the X programs actually need a controlling terminal? If not, perhaps xinit should detach itself from the terminal? * If they need a controlling terminal, does any of them actually need to open it? If not, perhaps it should be put into exclusive mode? Using any of the above safeguards would be nice. And of course the default 'Editor' launcher still needs to be fixed. Even if it stops freezing the session, it still doesn't do anything useful if the editor run by sensible-editor is a non-X one. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#478704: texlive-xetex: 478704: fontconfig instead
Hi Paul, On Sa, 05 Dez 2009, Paul Wise wrote: Yeah, they aren't particularly well standardised. I don't think it matters much which you use. Hmm, is there no FHS or policy on that? You add the symlinks now and then not worry about the fontconfig stuff at all. Xorg will probably get your fonts when #539338 is fixed, the patch needs testing/checking though, not sure if it follows symlinks. The discussion on the bug report shows that it goes down 100 levels of dirs including symlinks. OR Install all your fonts to /usr/share/fonts instead of the current paths and then not worry about the fontconfig stuff at all. Xorg will get your fonts when #539338 is fixed. No, I don't want to create links for each and every font. OR File a bug on fontconfig to get your font paths added to its configuration and triggers. Also file a bug on Xorg to get your font paths added to the default FontPath. The latter is needed to get your fonts into Xorg during the period where it doesn't support fontconfig, which will be quite a while. Hmm, again I am a bit puzzled. As far as I see there are two things involved: 1. fontconfig accessing the fonts 2. X accessing the fonts For 1. I can simply wait until fontconfig is trigger-enabled, at which point the fonts will be available to fontconfig immediately. For 2. we need mkfontscale be recursively and trigger enabled, as discussed in bug #539338, but that seems to take ages, right? But when I put the fonts below truetype and type1 in /u/s/fonts they are already in the default font path, so the only thing that would be needed is fixing mkfontscale, and there is already a bug. So for what I see there are two options. In both cases I drop links below /u/s/f/truetype and /u/s/f/type1. Then A. I call fc-cache in every font shipping package B. I do NOT call fc-cache ... Doing A. would do 1. from above, while doing B. would mean that we have to wait for font config triggers to be implemented to get fontconfig accessing the fonts Regarding 2. X accessing the fonts there are again some options: - short term solution: register all the fonts manually with X - mid term solution: fix #539338 and the fonts will be available - long term solution: Xorg gets fontconfig support built in The only thing I can take is the short term solution, but I will not do that, since that are too many fonts and I don't want to do that for all the directories. So my proposal is: link as described above and do nothing else for now Effect: fonts will not be available to X, and to fontconfig only after someone else has called fc-cache. After that is in unstable and we have fixed the billions of RC bugs coming in after the first upload to unstable, I will try to add the fc-cache calls to the font shipping packages' postinst and postrm scripts, which will make the fonts available automatically for fontconfig. On the X front I wait for the above to be fixed, or any other solution, and do nothing. Better?
