Hi!

Gfax fails to kill jobs from (remote) hylafax-server.
Hylafax protocol trace from syslog:

hfaxd rejected JOB 6because of trailing whitespaces.
JOB 6 via telnet works fine.

There is a new version being packaged there.

Is the patch I attached not clear? it applies quite cleanly (except
for changelog (not important, filterdiff it out) and setup.py install
(different context)). Also you can read it and cutpaste the changes,
they are really minimal.

Please consider switching from python-central to python-support,

I have no opinion on this, but as long as python-central exists, I see no
 reason to do this.

There are reasons python-involved people are suggesting this to you:
python-central is barely maintainer (for example, look at #559206), it
tends to be broken and sometimes fails on packages upgrades. OTOH,
python-support has a reactive maintainer, it just does the right
thing, and it contains routines for handling corner cases not covered
by python-central.

Feel free to use the helper you prefer: but seriously consider the switch.

 and to join the
Python Application Packaging Team or Debian Python Modules Team to maintain
 your
 python-related packages with those teams.

pootle has already a repository. I won't have time to make such
 conversion.

(conversion is just a svn-inject -o url pkg.dsc and change Vcs-*
but no problem) pootle has one but other (I used 'packages') don't (at
least Vcs-* are not used): python-jtoolkit, python-levenshtein . We'd
be happy to host them in the DPMT .

Bug#559314: [lldpd] #31: lldpd reports incorrect maximum frame size

2009-12-05 Thread
#31: lldpd reports incorrect maximum frame size
---+
Reporter: bernat | Owner: bernat
Type: defect | Status: new
Priority: minor | Component: core
 Version: 0.4.1 |Keywords:
---+
Reported by Ben Harris in [http://bugs.debian.org/559314 #559314].

According to Wireshark, the LLDPDUs transmitted by lldpd include a
Maximum Frame Size TLV indicating a frame size of 1500 octets. This is
incorrect: According to IEEE Std 802.1AB-2005 (clause G.5.1):

 a) If the MAC/PHY supports only the basic MAC frame format as defined in
3.1.1 of IEEE Std 802.3-2002, the maximum frame size field shall be set to
 1518.

 b) If the MAC/PHY supports an extension of the basic MAC frame format for
Tagged MAC frames as defined 3.5 of IEEE 802.3-2002, the maximum frame
size field shall be set to 1522.

 c) If the MAC/PHY supports an extension of the MAC frame format that is
different from either of the above, the maximum frame size field shall be
set to the maximum value supported.

Thus, lldpd should set this field to 1518, 1522, or some other number
depending on the network driver's support for tagged VLANs and jumbo
frames. 1500 is definitely wrong, and it would be better for lldpd not to
include this TLV at all than to transmit incorrect information.

Bug#559536: Missing dependency in testing

2009-12-05 Thread Salvo Isaja
Package: www.debian.org

libxklavier15 missing in testing makes kdebase uninstallable.

libxklavier15 has not yet entered testing, but kdebese-workspace-bin depends
on it, and it is in testing. kdebase, kdeminimal and kdebase-workspace have
been removed from testing after an upgrade. The KDE session disappears from
KDM after this.
Picking libxklavier15 from unstable lets install them back.

Please assign this report to whom it may concern.

Bug#559247: mplayer: Displays wrong duration for some vbr mp3 files.

2009-12-05 Thread Reinhard Tartler
Philipp Weis pw...@pweis.com writes:

 Package: mplayer
 Version: 1.0~rc3+svn20090405-1
 Severity: normal

For some variable bitrate mp3 files, mplayer displays the wrong
duration. I created a sample file and put it online here:

   http://pweis.com/stuff/vbr-sample.mp3

The file is a 11 second recording of noise, compressed with

   lame -v in.wav out.mp3

Mplayer, using the default mp3lib (-ac mp3), says the file is 8
seconds long, but it is 11 seconds. with -ac ffmp3, the correct
 duration is shown.

I couldn't figure out what library mp3lib refers to, so please
 reassign if appropriate.

mplayer can either use an internal mp3 implementation (subdirectory
'mp3lib' in the sources, or use the ffmpeg implementation. With the
switch -ac you can choose which implementation to use.

Looking at the upstream commits, there have been done a lot of commits
in mp3lib/ since the mplayer rc3.

Next steps for this bug: compile mplayer from svn trunk and check if the
problem has been fixed upstream. If yes, then bisect the commits until
the fix is found. Any takers?

Updating the mplayer package at this point makes only sense when the
ffmpeg package is updated as well. But at the current state of affairs,
this is not an option at the moment.

The bug has been sent upstream but upstream say no more than yes, we should
fix this. It might be possible to just override the check and make it build,
or that might result in another FTBFS, or a broken build... perhaps the
e-d-s or evo# maintainers could suggest how to move forward?

Hmh, no idea, I dont really know eds enough to give some help there.

Bug#559539: libselinux1: Selinux warnings during installation of grub-pc in clean sid chroot

2009-12-05 Thread Frans Pop
Package: libselinux1
Version: 2.0.89-4
Severity: important

This is probably not the correct package for this issue, but I hope you
can reassign.

After creating a clean adm64/sid chroot I got the following warnings during
an installation of grub-pc in the chroot:
Setting up grub-pc (1.97+20091130-1) ...
sed: warning: failed to get security context of /tmp/grub.zAsxTyPc8P: No data
available
sed: warning: failed to get security context of /tmp/grub.zAsxTyPc8P: No data
available

IMO such warnings should never be generated on a system that does not
have selinux installed and active.

The chroot was created on an amd64/lenny host system that does not use
selinux.

I see that pstoedit's upstream has released a new upstream version and,

Bug#559543: sort-dctrl: doesn't take into account secondary sorting criteria

2009-12-05 Thread Ryan Niebur
Package: dctrl-tools
Version: 2.13.1
Severity: normal

Hi!

The man page says this:
  sort-dctrl -k Package,Version:v /var/lib/dpkg/available
Output the dpkg available file sorted primarily in ascending
order of package names and secondarily in descending order of version numbers.

However, as shown in the example below (running tbl-dctrl not needed,
but aids in seeing the for me), sort-dctrl completely ignores the
secondary sorting criteria. The id: 5 record should come after the
id: 3 record, not before it.

bash jade ~ $ cat test.dctrl
id: 1

id: 2

id: 5

id: 4

 How do I generate one?

You would run exim inside GNU debugger, i.e.:

 1. install exim4-daemon-heavy-dbg
 2. gdb /usr/sbin/exim4

From where / how do I generate it?

Run exim with debugging arguments, then trigger the crash, ie.:

 exim4 -bd -d+all

If this is a production system it might be possible to run these tests
in a testing instance, using a different spooldirectory against the
 broken db files.

Any progress on the debugging output or anything I could be of
 assistance with?

Bug#556785: ncap: diff for NMU version 1.9.1-1.1

2009-12-05 Thread Sandro Tosi
Dear maintainer,

I've prepared an NMU for ncap (versioned as 1.9.1-1.1) and
uploaded it to DELAYED/5.

huh, ok. that sounds like it will break a lot of packages.

sadly yes :(

The attached patch fixes this problem. However, please consider also
  switching from python-central to python-support:
  http://wiki.debian.org/DebianPython/central2support

wow, i wonder if debian will ever have a stable method of building
 python packages.

We (as in python modules/apps teams) are trying to stadardize on python-support,
so we are advertising that such a switch is really welcome.

Additionally, we'd be happy if you would consider joining such teams to maintain
you python-related packages. Feel free to ask me any questions or doubts about
it.

Regards.

Bug#464880: one minute intervals possible in 1.4?

2009-12-05 Thread Holger Levsen
Hi,

munin.conf from 1.4.1 includes these lines:

# Make graphs show values per minute instead of per second
#graph_period minute

Does that really work now? I see http://munin.projects.linpro.no/ticket/5 has
been changed to Milestone 1.6 :-)

(Debians #464880 is about the same issue.)

Bug#512840: Why hasn't keychain being patched with Colin Watson's patch?

2009-12-05 Thread Michel Lavie
I used Colin Watson's patch and keychain works fine now. The same
thing was happening here using;
eval `keychain --eval --nogui -Q -q id_rsa`, when using ssh like
Colin describes.

Not getting the following printed on stderr any more:

tput: No value for $TERM and no -T specified

Why hasn't this patch been applied?

Thank You,

Bug#559547: python-coherence: Doesn't include __init__.py in submodules

2009-12-05 Thread Joseph Spiros
Package: python-coherence
Version: 0.6.4-4
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

When attempting to run coherence(1), it fails with ImportError: No module
named extern.simple_config. This seems to be due to the package not
including __init__.py files in many submodules, including
coherence.extern. The program runs after this temporary fix:

find /usr/lib/pymodules/coherence -type d -exec touch {}/__init__.py {}\;

I first attempted this with /usr/share/pyshared/coherence, but I discovered
that I know little about how Debian handles python modules.

Bug#559546: gwenview: Gwenview gets confused with previous/next buttons when being started from Dolphin

2009-12-05 Thread Stephan Windmüller
Package: gwenview
Version: 4:4.3.1-1
Severity: normal

When I open Gwenview through Thunar with clicking on the first image in
a directory, the previous/next buttons do not behave correctly.

I have observed two different behaviours, in two different directories:

1. The button Previous is active but does nothing while the button
Next is inactive. After selecting Browse and choosing the second
image, all works fine, even when navigating back to the first image.
Selecting the first image here does not work.

2. Both buttons are enabled, but only the Next button works. When I
select Next and then Previous to go back to the first picture,
the Previous button is disabled after that.

Bug#559513: plasma-widgets-workspace should recommend cpufrequtils

2009-12-05 Thread Xavier Vello
The power management plasmoid contained in plasma-widgets-workspace has the
ability to switch between supported CPU policies (More... -
Capabilities). However, this requires that the relevant kernel modules
that implement these policies are loaded; otherwise no CPU policies are
available. Loading the relevant kernel modules is the job of the
cpufrequtils package. Hence, plasma-widgets-workspace should recommend the
cpufrequtils package to the user when being installed.

Hello

First, the recommend should be put on the kdebase-workspace-bin package, as
the component responsible for power management is powerdevil (in kdebase-
workspace) and not plasma (which is just an interface to the daemon).

I agree that /etc/init.d/loadcpufreq is in the cpufrequtils package and is the
easier way to ensure the governor modules are loaded, although powerdevil
doesn't use /usr/bin/cpufreq*

Bug#559548: piuparts: ignore ucf files on purge after depends have been purged

2009-12-05 Thread Patrick Schoenfeld
Package: piuparts
Version: 0.37
Severity: normal

Hi,

if a package uses ucf it will be reported as buggy, because
the purge test purges all depends (including ucf) and the package
is therefore unable to unregister its configuration files from ucf.
This will leave changed files in /var/lib/ucf.
I'm more then unhappy that this is the situation, but as we are not
allowed to mess with other packages files there is no possibility
to workaround it.

So, for now, piuparts should ignore the files in /var/lib/ucf.

Best Regards,
Patrick

Bug#559552: zfs-fuse: fails to import zpool with put_nvlist error

2009-12-05 Thread Joseph Spiros
Package: zfs-fuse
Version: 0.6.0~beta+433snapshot-2
Severity: important
Tags: patch

I am unable to import my RAID-Z pool. When I attempt it, an error repeats
endlessly in my syslog (zfs-fuse: put_nvlist: out of memory 3296 3280),
and the import never completes.

The patch attached to this message from the zfs-fuse mailing list fixes the
problem: http://groups.google.com/group/zfs-fuse/msg/6b72f6cd2d07209c

After applying the patch, the error is still logged, but only once, and the
import seems to complete successfully. That said, I have no idea why this
problem occurs, or why the patch works, knowing only that it does.

Hi,

If the latest avision backend can't be fixed, would it be possible to
also include the working one in the debian package ? Some kind of
avision-legacy ? This would transform the regression into a
 configuration issue.

This would remove any incentive there may be for someone to step up and
fix the backend.

At that point, doing that means I'll have to maintain this older version
of the backend pretty much forever, and that's a big no-no.

Bug#559553: Do not repass pbuilder-only pbuilderrc options to command line

2009-12-05 Thread Modestas Vainius
Package: cowbuilder
Version: 0.60
Severity: normal

Hello,

cowbuilder parses pbuilder-only pbuilderrc options in
parameter.c:load_config_file() and later repasses them as command line options
to the internal pbuilder calls. For example, DEBBUILDOPTS gets passed as
--debbuildopts command line option to pbuilder call. There are numerous issues
with this behaviour:

1) pbuilder shell-expands DEBBUILDOPTS= when passing it to dpkg-buildpackage.
On the contrary, --debbuildopts is interpreted as a single dpkg-buildpackage
option. Therefore, DEBBUILDOPTS=-j3 -b works file, but --debbuildopts -j3
-b fails with unknown option or argument '-j3 -b'. Therefore, my
DEBBUILDOPTS that contains multiple options do not work anymore.

2) --binary-arch combined with --debbuildopts does not work in pbuilder,
because --debbuildopts overrides it. --binary-arch + DEBBUILDOPTS work fine.
Again, cowbuilder repasses DEBBUILDOPTS as --debbuildopts and breaks
--binary-arch.

3) This repassing is pretty useless. cowbuilder passes --configfile to pbuilder
anyway, so the latter will figure out what to do with its config options by
itself. In the end, smart cowbuilder repassing is reduntant. What's more,
even cowbuilder(8) says that apart from a couple of configuration options,
others should be ignored.

this doesn't ocurr on kfreebsd-amd64. It has segfaulted since firsts

JavaScript, because it doesn't fail with pages without it, such as
 www.gnu.org

Thanks for the report. I was already experiencing it on a -i386 vm but
still failed so far to trace the problem (mainly due to issues in
building debug packages here).
It sounds quite weird that it isn't present on -amd64, though.
Are your machines virtual ones too? Both arch's?

I'll give it another try in the next days, hoping to spot it, but in
the meantime any backtrace or pointer is appreciated.

Severity: minor

draai installs its zsh completion method in
/usr/share/zsh/site-functions/_draai, where it is not read by zsh. as a
result, zsh completion for draai does not work at all.

i had a similar problem with the arandr package myself (that's how i
found draai, looking for a better solution); there, i've been installing
to /usr/local/share/zsh/site-functions/ (which is against fhs) and am
now switching to /usr/share/zsh/functions/Completion (which works, but
seems wrong considering the other files there are all somehow compiled).

schizo (whom i cc'd as the zsh package maintainer for help on this), do
you have a general solution for this (like copying to an own location
and somehow making that location known to the zsh completion system)?

Comments/Problems:

1)
If I try to select no localization, continent--Europe, country--Germany,
then I end up in an endless menu loop. If I use America, USA instaed, then
I can select between en_US and C in the following menu (as expected).

Would it be possible to keep localization optional for _all_ countries? Its
apita, anyway.

2)
Due to wrong localization settings I am not allowed to select CET (or
Europe/Berlin) in tzdata setup, either. I just get a restricted list of
time zones to choose from (valid only in the US, as it seems). I would prefer
to simply enter CET on the keyboard, at least for expert mode.

3)
Aptitude shows that most packages were explicitly selected for install.
d-i should make use of package dependencies instead, esp. for the lib*
packages.

libunwind7-dev was installed by default. I would guess this is obsolete
for a base system.

4)
I would prefer if grub doesn't include os-prober by default.

Harri

gstreamer needs a lot of plugins to fill the place of totem-xine. At
least it needs to pull in gstreamer0.10-plugins-good and -bad for dvd

Hi,

I think there are more packages than just MySQL missing in testing, I
had dependency problems with old or missing versions of these
packages:

http://packages.debian.org/sid/libgnokii5 (required for kde-full)
http://packages.debian.org/sid/gnokii-common
http://packages.debian.org/sid/nspluginwrapper (= 1.3)
http://packages.debian.org/sid/libsmi2-common (conflict between ifstat

http://packages.debian.org/squeeze/gnome-desktop-environment
http://packages.debian.org/squeeze/gnome (still at 2.26)

Please check these packages as well.

Bug#478704: texlive-xetex: 478704: fontconfig instead

long time has passed, but slowly we are reaching TL2009 for Debian
status.

On Mo, 23 Feb 2009, Paul Wise wrote:

That sounds a good idea. So I have some questions (since I want to
do that for TL2009, but also for lmodern)

Install the fonts in /usr/share/fonts/opentype/something instead.

links would do it?

Add a config file /etc/fonts/conf.avail/90-something.conf and a symlink
to it in /etc/fonts/conf.d/. The config file should contain this:

Sounds easier.

Some questions:

 ?xml version=1.0?
 !DOCTYPE fontconfig SYSTEM /etc/fonts/fonts.dtd
 fontconfig
dir/usr/share/texmf-texlive/fonts/opentype/public/dir
 /fontconfig

Does that mean that all fonts in *all* directories *below*
/usr/share/texmf-texlive/fonts/opentype/public
are added?

That way we simply can add that config file in texlive-common and have
all the fonts, whenever they are installed, automatically included?

Probably some fc-cache call are necessary?

Is there a debhelper dh_* for that?

Best wishes

Yes. The scripts in /etc/wicd/scripts/*/ are meant as global scripts.
Unfortunately, that's not documented (see #557184).

I'm not closing this bug, nor merging it, because I'd like to hijack it a bit.
In particular, wicd upstream said that somewhen they'll add support for
passing parameters to scripts.
This way, your scripts could check what kind of connection it's being passed
(and other data -- essid, bssid, [..]), and act accordingly.

Do you agree on retitling this bug?

Bug#559562: devicekit-disks: provide a way to disable polling

2009-12-05 Thread Yves-Alexis Perez
Package: devicekit-disks
Version: 009-2
Severity: normal

Hi,

since the transition to devicekit started, I have to concurrent daemon
running, hal and devkit-disks-daemon (I kind-of fear I'll have at one
point hal, devkit and udisk running but…)

I already disabled polling for hal using the hal-disable-polling
command, but it doesn't seem to exist the same kind of command for
devicekit. So in the end, I have:

root 3064 0.0 0.0 42040 980 ?S11:36 0:01
devkit-disks-daemon: polling /dev/hda
root 5111 0.0 0.0 22044 1224 ?S11:59 0:00
hald-addon-storage: no polling on /dev/hda because it is explicitly disabled

I can temporarily disable polling using devkit-disks --inhibit-polling
/dev/hda but that's not a permanent fix. It'd be nice to have the same
kind of tool than hal (where it'd put an udev rule instead of a hal fdi,
I guess).

Cheers,

I guess so, it would be a bit hacky though. That said, it will be a
while before Xorg supports fontconfig. The initial plan for Xorg is to
teach it about subdirectories (#539338) and have it use /usr/share/fonts
for the default FontPath like Fedora/etc do. So, linking might be better
for now if you care about apps using fonts registered with the X server.
Alternatively you could get /usr/share/texmf-texlive/fonts added to the
default FontPath for xserver-xorg-core.

Add a config file /etc/fonts/conf.avail/90-something.conf and a symlink

  /fontconfig

Correct, I think that is how fontconfig knows about /usr/share/fonts.

That way we simply can add that config file in texlive-common and have
all the fonts, whenever they are installed, automatically included?

Right.

Probably some fc-cache call are necessary?

Correct for now, IIRC upstream/Fedora had a plan for fontconfig to
automatically notice new fonts. I think that is in 2.8.0, which isn't
yet in Debian (Keith Packard is working on it apparently).

I would suggest using triggers to do that, fontconfig uses them to
notify it about new fonts in these 3 directories:

$ cat /var/lib/dpkg/info/fontconfig.triggers
interest /usr/share/fonts
interest /usr/share/ghostscript/fonts
interest /usr/share/texmf/fonts

Actually, you might just be able to get the directory added to
fontconfig itself and let its triggers deal with that. Or move the fonts
to /usr/share/texmf/fonts instead of /usr/share/texmf-texlive/fonts.

Is there a debhelper dh_* for that?

Not AFAIK.

My recommendations from the above:

  * Poke the Debian XSF about the status of #539338
  * Ask the Debian XSF to add your fonts to the Xorg default
FontPath
  * Ask the fontconfig maintainers to add your font paths to the
default configuration and add your font paths to the fontconfig
triggers.

OR

  * Move all your fonts into /usr/share/fonts

thanks for the long and helpful email.

On Sa, 05 Dez 2009, Paul Wise wrote:

So a simple
ln -s /usr/share/texmf-texlive/fonts/type1 \
/usr/share/fonts/type1/texlive
ln -s /usr/share/texmf-texlive/fonts/opentype \
/usr/share/fonts/truetype/texlive
would suffice?

That sounds nice. I mean, we haven't registered *any* font with
defoma/fontconfig for now, so we can even wait for triggers
and let it stay there without any other changes to the postinst
scripts, or hack a bit and add fc-cache call to those putting
files into fonts/type1 or fonts/opentype.

Would (one or the other or both) be a valid option?

If I don't have to do anything else to do but add the above two links
that I can already do for the upload to unstable which is imminent
(we have hopefully fixed the most serious bugs by now).

Again, thanks a lot and all the best

provided by Debian.

However it requires one graph pr. cpu and since interesting servers now have
at least 4 or 6 cores this plugin is noisy - much like diskstat_. To be
included it would either have to be set to manual or converted it to a
cpuspeed multigraph plugin - with correct ds names for the to preserve data
history. And IMHO the math has to be fixed - the plugin converts perfectly
 good counters to gauges.

It being a manual plugin would be completely ok with me.

This is a consequence of how debootstrap works and not an installer issue.
I'm not sure that it can be fixed in debootstrap as one of the core
attributes of debootstrap is that it sets up a base system *without* the
use of package management tools.

libunwind7-dev was installed by default. I would guess this is obsolete
 for a base system.

The problem seems to be that the package has Priority: standard and thus
gets installed automatically. Please file a separate bug report against
libunwind7-dev as this is not a D-I issue.

 4)
I would prefer if grub doesn't include os-prober by default.

This is a decision by the grub maintainers that is out of the hands of D-I
developers. Please discuss it with them (or on debian-devel).

Cheers,
FJP

This is because you memtest86+ doesn't declare conflicts as it should,
and you have an older grub-pc:

ii grub-pc [grub] 1.96+20080724-16 GRand Unified
 Bootloader, version

Basically the new file has been introduced into a newer version of

Won't it lead to accidental removal of bootloader?
That would be a critical bug.

This is the only possibilty that I see if we want to just modify package
relationships; the other option would be to modify the grub script
provided by memtest86+ to not do anything if we don't find the required
files (which works for /usr/lib/grub/grub-mkconfig_lib, but it's harder
to do for the linux16 support).

So, I don't see a clear way to make this all work nicely. Any
  suggestions?

 Something like

 #!/bin/sh
 set -e
 if test -e /boot/memtest86+.bin ; then
   if test -r /usr/lib/grub/grub-mkconfig_lib ; then
 . /usr/lib/grub/grub-mkconfig_lib

 linux16 $MEMTESTPATH console=ttyS0,115200n8
 }

   else
 . /usr/lib/grub/update-grub_lib
 MEMTESTPATH=$( make_system_path_relative_to_its_root

 echo Found memtest86+ image: $MEMTESTPATH 2
 cat EOF
 menuentry Memory test (memtest86+) {
 linux $MEMTESTPATH
 }
 menuentry Memory test (memtest86+, serial console 115200) {
 linux $MEMTESTPATH console=ttyS0,115200n8
 }
 EOF
   fi
 fi

Yes, but you're tying here together the grub-mkconfig_lib change and the
linux/linux16 change, and these were not done together. These two should
be split, and the linux16 tested via the presence of
/usr/lib/grub/i386-pc/linux16.mod.

But here we get very deep into details of grub, which is not really
recommended - what if grub changes its internal paths tomorrow?

And note the above shell script can be simplified :)

This could be just:

#!/bin/sh
set -e
if test -e /boot/memtest86+.bin ; then
  if test -r /usr/lib/grub/grub-mkconfig_lib ; then
. /usr/lib/grub/grub-mkconfig_lib
  elif test -r /usr/lib/grub/update-grub_lib ; then
. /usr/lib/grub/update-grub_lib
else # no grub config file found
exit 0
  fi

  if test -f /usr/lib/grub/i386-pc/linux16.mod; then
LX=linux16
  else
LX=linux
  fi

  MEMTESTPATH=$( make_system_path_relative_to_its_root /boot/memtest86+.bin )
  echo Found memtest86+ image: $MEMTESTPATH 2
  cat EOF
menuentry Memory test (memtest86+) {
EOF
  prepare_grub_to_access_device ${GRUB_DEVICE_BOOT} | sed -e s/^/\t/
  cat EOF
  $LX $MEMTESTPATH
}
menuentry Memory test (memtest86+, serial console 115200) {
EOF
  prepare_grub_to_access_device ${GRUB_DEVICE_BOOT} | sed -e s/^/\t/
  cat EOF
  $LX $MEMTESTPATH console=ttyS0,115200n8
}
EOF
fi

But again, I'm not sure which is best - conflicting with old grub
versions, or going and depending on grub internal paths.

Bug#548434: superformat result

2009-12-05 Thread ael
I just retested fdformat and superformat on one of the machines
with current testing and kernel 2.6.32 .

fdformat fails in usual way as previously reported.

superformat also fails, but maybe this result gives a clue:-

# superformat /dev/fd0
Measuring drive 0's raw capacity
In order to avoid this time consuming measurement in the future,
add the following line to /etc/driveprm:
drive0: deviation=81832
CAUTION: The line is drive and controller specific, so it should be

Not enough raw space on this disk for this format

# cat /etc/fdprm
/dev/fd0 hd
-
These tests were done on an already formatted floppy: formatted by
fdformat under an old redhat system.

Thereis, of course, an strace on superformat above, although that run
was a while ago, and produced slightly different results.

I agree that it would be a good idea to support tagpending in nmudiff,
but I disagree that nmudiff should do it on its own.

I know 'tagpending' exists, but the method above will have all the relevant
commands and writings about the NMU in a single mail.

Yeah, but it would duplicate code, for not much of benefit. I think that
calling tagpending would be a better approach.

This little tool converts font files (.ttf, etc.) to GNUstep .nfont

art GNUstep backend. Therefore I believe it belongs to the section
`gnustep', despite being a console program.

(In any case, `fonts' seems more suitable than the presumably generic

 would suffice?

I think you want this directory instead, but yeah:

/usr/share/fonts/opentype/texlive

Please test it with fc-match before doing it though, obviously.

Both would be fine, I think it would be better to wait for fontconfig to
add the triggers.

Once you add the symlinks above the fontconfig trigger stuff isn't
needed though because fontconfig already has a trigger
on /usr/share/fonts.

Yeah, they aren't particularly well standardised. I don't think it
matters much which you use.

So I simply wait for fontconfig getting the trigger, and then add the
above symlink to texlive-common (or tex-common) and that's it.

Uh, no. I'll elaborate the options a bit more:

You add the symlinks now and then not worry about the fontconfig stuff
at all. Xorg will probably get your fonts when #539338 is fixed, the
patch needs testing/checking though, not sure if it follows symlinks.

2009-12-05 Thread Michael Burschik
Package: metacity
Version: 1:2.28.0-2
Severity: normal

When I use the close window button of the window bar, the window manager closes
a different window. When I double-click the window bar in order to maximize a
window, the window manager raises a different window and maximizes that. I'm
not sure which window receives the event instead of the one that should, but
it might be the one that was raised previously. I generally maximize all my
windows and cycle through them with ALT-TAB.

Bug#559402: [Pkg-xfce-devel] Bug#559402: xfce4-panel: 'Editor' launcher freezes entire X session

2009-12-05 Thread Piotr Engelking
Yves-Alexis Perez cor...@debian.org:

Can you try to debug what is happening (like, if it's because there's a
huge cpu usage, or if xfwm is stuck, or something like that).

The entire session is in stopped state ('T' in ps). Killing joe and
sending SIGCONT to the session actually recovers it.

Can you try to install a graphical editor (like mousepad) and retry?

I had it already installed, and no problems with it, of course.

The thing is, there is no x-sensible-editor. So if you have no graphical
editor, yes it'll fallback to terminal ones. But it works perfectly fine
with vim and nano, afair. Never tried with joe though, so maybe that's
 the problem, not sure.

Sensible-editor doesn't work this way. Unlike sensible-browser it
doesn't prioritize X editors.

Vim is X-aware, so no surprises here, and nano refuses to run if stdin
is not a terminal:

$ nano  /dev/null
Received SIGHUP or SIGTERM
$

Joe doesn't (which is actually useful for running it as part of a
pipeline), and as it is a terminal program, it ends messing the
controlling terminal of the X session. Questions I can think of are:

* Does any of the X programs actually need a controlling terminal? If
not, perhaps xinit should detach itself from the terminal?

* If they need a controlling terminal, does any of them actually need
to open it? If not, perhaps it should be put into exclusive mode?

Using any of the above safeguards would be nice.

And of course the default 'Editor' launcher still needs to be fixed.
Even if it stops freezing the session, it still doesn't do anything
useful if the editor run by sensible-editor is a non-X one.

Bug#478704: texlive-xetex: 478704: fontconfig instead

2009-12-05 Thread Norbert Preining
Hi Paul,

On Sa, 05 Dez 2009, Paul Wise wrote:
Yeah, they aren't particularly well standardised. I don't think it
 matters much which you use.

Hmm, is there no FHS or policy on that?

You add the symlinks now and then not worry about the fontconfig stuff
at all. Xorg will probably get your fonts when #539338 is fixed, the
patch needs testing/checking though, not sure if it follows symlinks.

The discussion on the bug report shows that it goes down 100 levels
of dirs including symlinks.

 OR

Install all your fonts to /usr/share/fonts instead of the current paths
and then not worry about the fontconfig stuff at all. Xorg will get your
 fonts when #539338 is fixed.

No, I don't want to create links for each and every font.

 OR

File a bug on fontconfig to get your font paths added to its
configuration and triggers. Also file a bug on Xorg to get your font
paths added to the default FontPath. The latter is needed to get your
fonts into Xorg during the period where it doesn't support fontconfig,
which will be quite a while.

Hmm, again I am a bit puzzled.

As far as I see there are two things involved:

1. fontconfig accessing the fonts
2. X accessing the fonts

For 1. I can simply wait until fontconfig is trigger-enabled, at which
point the fonts will be available to fontconfig immediately.

For 2. we need mkfontscale be recursively and trigger enabled, as
discussed in bug #539338, but that seems to take ages, right?
But when I put the fonts below truetype and type1 in /u/s/fonts
they are already in the default font path, so the only thing
that would be needed is fixing mkfontscale, and there is already
a bug.

So for what I see there are two options. In both cases I drop
links below /u/s/f/truetype and /u/s/f/type1.

Then
A. I call fc-cache in every font shipping package
B. I do NOT call fc-cache ...

Doing A. would do 1. from above, while doing B. would mean that we
have to wait for font config triggers to be implemented to get
fontconfig accessing the fonts

Regarding 2. X accessing the fonts there are again some options:
- short term solution:
register all the fonts manually with X

- mid term solution:
fix #539338 and the fonts will be available

- long term solution:
Xorg gets fontconfig support built in

The only thing I can take is the short term solution, but I will not
do that, since that are too many fonts and I don't want to do that
for all the directories.

So my proposal is: link as described above and do nothing else for now

Effect: fonts will not be available to X, and to fontconfig only after
someone else has called fc-cache.

After that is in unstable and we have fixed the billions of RC bugs
coming in after the first upload to unstable, I will try to add
the fc-cache calls to the font shipping packages' postinst and postrm
scripts, which will make the fonts available automatically for fontconfig.

On the X front I wait for the above to be fixed, or any other solution,
and do nothing.

Better?

Best wishes

Bug#559578: eeepc-acpi-scripts: EeePC 701 freezes with garbled screen while booting

2009-12-05 Thread Axel Beckert
Package: eeepc-acpi-scripts
Version: 1.1.3
Severity: critical
Justification: Breaks whole system

After the upgrade to 1.1.3 my EeePC 701 4G freezes on shortly after
setting the console fonts with a garbled screen (no more readable,
looks like lines being out of sync or so). I have to power it off by
pressing the power button 4 seconds. No more ping, nothing. Due to the
garbled screen, I do not know if there was any kernel panic or so.

It does not happen if I:

* unplug the power supply (not very usable).
* boot with acpi=off (neither very helpful)
* downgrade to version 1.1.2 (did that :-)
* boot with init=/bin/bash (of course)

It does happen:

* independent of the kernel (tried 2.6.30, 2.6.31, 2.6.31 from grml,
  2.6.32)
* independent of the udev or console-setup versions (downgraded both
to the versions in testing since I first suspected them)
* even when I boot into single user mode (and power supply is plugged
  in)
* as soon as I plug in the power supply (in case I had it unplugged on
startup) the system freezes and garbles the screen, also if running
  under X.
