Bug#571191: music123: please upgrade to gnat-4.4
Package: music123 Version: 15-0.2 Severity: serious Justification: gnat-4.3 will not be in squeeze gnat-4.3 has RC bugs that I will not fix because the default Ada compiler is now gnat-4.4. Please update the package to use gnat-4.4 and recompile. Note that, since music123 is an application rather than a library, it is sufficient to just build-depend on gnat without any version. Bug#536362: place bigger warnings around dynamic services
Hello, firehol does not work if it is configured to protect the NFS service and if NFS is down for some reason. In that case, esp. at machine startup, the machine in question ends up having none of their desired packet filters in place, ie, everything is allowed. I consider this as quite unexpected behaviour, and would like to see some warnings to highlight this effect. I suggest that firehol simply emits a warning that it can't configure a dynamic services if it finds that the service in question is down, but then proceeds to configure all other services that work, at least as an option. Probably not only --frontend vs. DEBIAN_FRONTEND, but for other parameters as well. This is the behavior in all programs I've seen so far. I just ran into a problem when I wanted to manually reconfigure a package in a pbuilder environment (which had DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive set, but I didn't recognize this at once). Even running dpkg-reconfigure --frontend foobar package just exited with 0. No questions were asked. No way to reconfigure even debconf. Every option given to --frontend was silently overridden by DEBIAN_FRONTEND. AOL. I just tried to change /bin/sh to dash in my pbuilder setup and scratched my head why dpkg-reconfigure dash would not do anything, even with the --frontend and --priority options. These environment variables are also not mentioned in the dpkg-reconfigure manpage, only in debconf(7) which is in a separate package debconf-doc. And even debconf.7 does not mention that DEBIAN_FRONTEND overrides the --frontend option, at last I found it in the Debian changelog. Bug#570929: Hungarian locale: zs is treated as a single letter, with undesirable consequences

Lots of the behavior of regular expressions in non-C locales is counterintuitive, so it might be helpful to point out if each example violates some rule of the standard or only common sense (both are important, of course). Uh, that standard is too dense for me; I'll pass on that and can only vouch for common sense. Bug#571196: python-cherrypy3: please update to 3.2.0 rc1
Package: python-cherrypy3 Version: 3.1.2-1 Severity: wishlist Please update cherrypy3 to 3.2.0 rc1; the newly released sabnzbdplus 0.5.0 needs a newer version than 3.1.2. I would like to get that into Ubuntu's 10.04 release as well and since I prefer to keep things in sync with Debian, that explains why I'm asking for this rc rather waiting for cherrypy 3.2.0 to go final. Bug#571197: portmap: Should to run both from rcS.d and rc[2-5].d
Package: portmap Version: 6.0-6 Severity: important Tags: patch I believe the fix applied to fix the issues reported in #340158 and #437912 actually broke runlevel 1 for portmap. In a normal boot where NFS file system are to be mounted, portmap need to start in rcS.d, and the call to the portmap script in rc2.d/ is a no-op. When switching to runlevel 1, the portmap process is stopped, and when switching back to runlevels 2-5, it need to be started again. Because of this, there need to be start symlinks in runlevels 2-5 as well as the start symlink in rcS.d/. In short, I believe the bug reports and claims in #340158 and #437912 are wrong, and the portmap script actually need to run twice during boot to make sure runlevel 1 works properly. And since the portmap script was changed to not delay needlessly when called the second time, there is not a big problem with boot speed to run it twice. Here is a patch to reinsert the missing start symlinks during upgrade, and make sure the correct symlinks are inserted on new installs not using dependency based boot sequencing. The patch also bring the init.d script header in line with the arguments used by update-rc.d. diff -u portmap-6.0.0/debian/postinst portmap-6.0.0/debian/postinst --- portmap-6.0.0/debian/postinst +++ portmap-6.0.0/debian/postinst @@ -7,7 +7,7 @@ CONFFILE=/etc/default/portmap if [ $1 = configure ] [ -n $2 ] - dpkg --compare-versions $2 lt 5-3; then + dpkg --compare-versions $2 le 6.0.0-1; then err=$( update-rc.d -f portmap remove 21 /dev/null ) || { echo $err 2 exit 1 diff -u portmap-6.0.0/debian/rules portmap-6.0.0/debian/rules --- portmap-6.0.0/debian/rules +++ portmap-6.0.0/debian/rules @@ -45,7 +45,7 @@ dh_installdebconf dh_installdocs dh_installexamples - dh_installinit -- start 43 S . start 32 0 6 . stop 81 1 . + dh_installinit -- start 43 S 2 3 4 5 . start 32 0 6 . stop 81 1 . dh_installcron dh_installman dh_installinfo Happy hacking, -- Petter Reinholdtsen -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. By scanning the boot and runlevel directories in /etc/init.d/ it then executes the appropriate scripts in parallel. There are no directories under /etc/init.d on my systems, isn't this some leftover (and confusing) SuSE heritage? Yeah, it should be /etc/rc*.d/. SuSE puts these directories in /etc/init.d afaik. Bug#565706: grub2 enters rescue mode with fd0 cannot get C/H/S values

My system has three RAID1 md partitions across sda and sdb, containing swap, / and /boot and it has another disk (sdc). With these plugged in, it all works fine, but once I plug a USB drive in as well, the system won't start. I can get it to start by removing the USB drive and resetting it (ctrl-alt-del or power-cycle). This is not ideal though, as it's a hidden-away server which always has a USB disk plugged into it for backup purposes, so I cannot reboot it remotely because it won't start up again. -- Package-specific info: *** BEGIN /proc/mounts /dev/disk/by-uuid/b8ea7ba8-1e96-4e1c-8993-6a3118767dd5 / ext4 rw,relatime,errors=remount-ro,barrier=1,data=ordered 0 0 /dev/md2 /boot ext3 rw,relatime, errors=continue, data=ordered 0 0 /dev/sdc1 /mythrecordings ext4 rw,relatime,barrier=1,data=ordered 0 0 *** END /proc/mounts *** BEGIN /boot/grub/device.map (hd0) /dev/sda (hd1) /dev/sdb (hd2) /dev/sdc *** END /boot/grub/device.map *** BEGIN /boot/grub/grub.cfg # # DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE # # It is automatically generated by /usr/sbin/grub-mkconfig using templates # from /etc/grub.d and settings from /etc/default/grub # ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/00_header ### if [ -s $prefix/grubenv ]; then load_env fi set default=0 if [ ${prev_saved_entry} ]; then set saved_entry=${prev_saved_entry} save_env saved_entry set prev_saved_entry= save_env prev_saved_entry set boot_once=true fi function savedefault { if [ -z ${boot_once} ]; then saved_entry=${chosen} save_env saved_entry fi } insmod raid insmod mdraid insmod ext2 set root=(md1) search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set b8ea7ba8-1e96-4e1c-8993-6a3118767dd5 if loadfont /usr/share/grub/unicode.pf2 ; then set gfxmode=640x480 insmod gfxterm insmod vbe if terminal_output gfxterm ; then true ; else # For backward compatibility with versions of terminal.mod that don't # understand terminal_output terminal gfxterm fi fi insmod raid insmod mdraid insmod ext2 set root=(md2) search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set 7585406e-ce84-4bd5-afb6-e198efa46a94 set locale_dir=($root)/grub/locale set lang=en insmod gettext set timeout=5 ### END /etc/grub.d/00_header ### ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/05_debian_theme ### set menu_color_normal=cyan/blue set menu_color_highlight=white/blue ### END /etc/grub.d/05_debian_theme ### ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/10_linux ### menuentry Debian GNU/Linux, with Linux 2.6.32-trunk-amd64 { insmod raid insmod mdraid insmod ext2 set root=(md2) search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set 7585406e-ce84-4bd5-afb6-e198efa46a94 echoLoading Linux 2.6.32-trunk-amd64 ... linux /vmlinuz-2.6.32-trunk-amd64 root=UUID=b8ea7ba8-1e96-4e1c-8993-6a3118767dd5 ro quiet echoLoading initial ramdisk ... initrd /initrd.img-2.6.32-trunk-amd64 } menuentry Debian GNU/Linux, with Linux 2.6.32-trunk-amd64 (recovery mode) { insmod raid insmod mdraid insmod ext2 set root=(md2) search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set 7585406e-ce84-4bd5-afb6-e198efa46a94 echoLoading Linux 2.6.32-trunk-amd64 ... linux /vmlinuz-2.6.32-trunk-amd64 root=UUID=b8ea7ba8-1e96-4e1c-8993-6a3118767dd5 ro single echoLoading initial ramdisk ... initrd /initrd.img-2.6.32-trunk-amd64 } ### END /etc/grub.d/10_linux ### ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/30_os-prober ### ### END /etc/grub.d/30_os-prober ### ### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/40_custom ### # This file provides an easy way to add custom menu entries. There could be an endless chain of redirections, and I'm not convinced if youtube-dl should follow it or not. I would tend to tag this as a wontfix, but I'll wait for a comment of yours regarding this. Just to be clear, we're talking about the url that http://tinyurl.com/yz8ypxx points to, namely http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_profilepageeurl=http%3A//www.youtube.com/user/MikeyCoooL%23p/a/73B7A33BE199C96B/0/pfrjcVD_YjIv=pfrjcVD_YjI Not http://tinyurl.com/yz8ypxx itself, right? I'm filing it here because it seems to me libnewt0.52 is more likely to be in the wrong. Thanks so much for analysing this! I spent nearly a full day trying to track this down as a possible bug in cdebconf (in d-i) before it occurred to me that it might be reproducible with newt alone, and thus found this in the Debian newt bug list ... At line 295 of newt.c, newt calls fribidi_log2vis passing the length of the input string (not counting the terminating 0 character) and never makes sure that the output buffer is actually terminated. In 0.10.9 this worked fine, but now with 0.19.2 you end up with random garbage after the button texts. One simple fix would be to just set out[len] = 0 at line 296 to ensure proper string termination. I don't have a particular opinion on the fribidi change, but my instinct here would be to zero-fill the output array, which is a one-line change too. I applied the following patch to the newt package in Ubuntu: * Zero-initialise fribidi_log2vis' output buffer, since it no longer does so itself (thanks to Brad Jorsch for analysis; Debian bug #570581; LP: #526391). --- newt-0.52.10.orig/debian/patches/710_fribidi_zero_initialise.patch +++ newt-0.52.10/debian/patches/710_fribidi_zero_initialise.patch @@ -0,0 +1,12 @@ +diff -ruN newt-0.52.10-old/newt.c newt-0.52.10/newt.c +--- newt-0.52.10-old/newt.c2010-02-23 20:22:23.0 + newt-0.52.10/newt.c2010-02-23 20:24:25.0 + +@@ -288,7 +288,7 @@ + } + + if (need_out) { +-out = (FriBidiChar *)malloc(sizeof(FriBidiChar)*(len+1)); ++out = (FriBidiChar *)calloc(len+1, sizeof(FriBidiChar)); + if(!out) + { + dlclose(handle); Alastair, could something like this be uploaded quite urgently? The files exist so I can navigate by typing the URLs. Thanks for any tips, places to look. Bug#570773: squeeze: LDAP connections using TLS do not work
[Holger Levsen] Something is wrong with the generation and/or with the distribution of the LDAP SSL certificate. LDAP connections using TLS do not work. Filing as serious as having LDAP configured out of the box is a core feature of Debian Edu. I suspect the cause of my problems during testing is that I install on a network where the 'ldap' DNS name already exist, causing the installer to download the wrong server certificate to /etc/ldap/ssl/ldap-server-pubkey.pem on the main server (it should be copied from the local disk instead). The certificate is then wrong when I disconnect the main-server from the local network to test it after installation. If I am right, this problem will affect lenny installations too. I have added some test code to testsuite/ldap-server in svn to detect when that happen, and hope it will make it posible to verify my suspicion. Hi, Faheem. 2010/2/24 Faheem Mitha fah...@email.unc.edu: Just to be clear, we're talking about the url that http://tinyurl.com/yz8ypxx points to, namely http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_profilepageeurl=http%3A//www.youtube.com/user/MikeyCoooL%23p/a/73B7A33BE199C96B/0/pfrjcVD_YjIv=pfrjcVD_YjI Not http://tinyurl.com/yz8ypxx itself, right? I thought that you were talking about the tinyurl address. If so, not sure why youtube-dl should not follow it, but please go ahead and tag wontfix if you wish. No, I won't gratuitously tag anything wontfix on my packages. :-) That's why I tagged it moreinfo. :-) Anyway, you seem to be using a very, very old version of youtube-dl, that has many problems. Can you confirm that the problem doesn't exist anymore with the version from unstable? I can't reproduce it here with the newer version. BTW, it seems that youtube-dl will never be part of a stable release due to concerns of the Release Managers and you should probably get the package from unstable (I try to be conservative with the versions that I upload). Bug#272645: [Pkg-opt-media-team] please use O_EXCL to open the dvd device
Dear George. I have, BTW, committed some small fixes to packages at http://git.debian.org/?p=pkg-opt-media/dvd%2Brw-tools.git but I am not really sure why that repository does not appear on the main git.d.o page. I think I will try to setup JIGDO in /debian-cd/... -- Anderson Medeiros Gomes amg1...@ifsul.edu.br Chave PGP 0xC4579E4E Coordenação de Manutenção e Redes Instituto Federal Sul-rio-grandense - Campus Pelotas http://www.ifsul.edu.br/ Citando Simon Paillard simon.paill...@resel.enst-bretagne.fr: On Mon, Feb 22, 2010 at 01:59:11PM -0300, Anderson Medeiros Gomes wrote: - http://debs.ifsul.edu.br/debian-cd/ exists while you didn't submit it. Do you want it to be public ? If yes, could you please ensure it's synced automatically ? Yes, I want. The CD mirror is synced automatically. It is already in sync with ftp.br.debian.org/debian-cd, despite the local trace file is missing. I just edited my custom script in order to fix that. Must CD mirror use pushing also? If so, I must configure it. Yes, that would be great. BTW, if you want to save bandwidth, you can generate the ISOs yourself from your packages mirror, using http://www.debian.org/CD/mirroring/#jigdomirror [...] The entry to be added would look like to: Here is the entry added to the list: Site: debs.ifsul.edu.br Type: Push-Secondary Archive-architecture: alpha amd64 arm armel hppa hurd-i386 i386 ia64 kfreebsd-amd64 kfreebsd-i386 m68k mips mipsel powerpc s390 sparc Archive-http: /debian/ Archive-ftp: /debian/ Archive-upstream: ftp.br.debian.org CDImage-http: /debian/ CDImage-ftp: /debian/ CDImage-upstream: ftp.br.debian.org IPv6: no Maintainer: Instituto Federal Sul-rio-grandense c...@ifsul.edu.br Country: BR Brazil Location: Pelotas-RS Sponsor: Instituto Federal Sul-rio-grandens http://www.ifsul.edu.br/ Comment: 15Mbps Best regards. -- Simon Paillard binfx0fqW8moC.bin Description: Chave Pública PGP pgpiffjp045lZ.pgp Description: Assinatura Digital PGP
Bug#568872: This issue also affecting radeon 3200HD on anamorphic 16:9 1024x768 plasma display
Hardware is a radeon hd 3200 onboard graphics card, using xorg radeon driver, outputting to a 42 plasma display @ 1024x768 anamorphic aspect ratio (rectangular pixels). Prior to this xorg update it was reporting/working at correct resolution and aspect ratio. Now xdpyinfo is reporting an incorrect physical size, and as such applications such as moovida are now displaying incorrectly (a stretched image). Xorg.0.log is giving mixed messages - Max Image Size [cm] is correct, Image Size gives correct aspect ratio (16:9), but Setting screen physical size is wrong (4:3 aspect ratio). $ grep -i size /var/log/Xorg.0.log | tail -n 5 (II) RADEON(0): Using exact sizes for initial modes (II) RADEON(0): Setting screen physical size to 270 x 203 (II) RADEON(0): Max Image Size [cm]: horiz.: 93 vert.: 52 (II) RADEON(0): clock: 65.0 MHz Image Size: 708 x 398 mm (II) RADEON(0): clock: 85.5 MHz Image Size: 708 x 398 mm $ xdpyinfo | grep dimensions dimensions:1024x768 pixels (270x203 millimeters) Strangely, xrandr is reporting a correct aspect ratio... $ xrandr | head -n 2 Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1024 x 768, maximum 1920 x 1920 VGA-0 connected 1024x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 708mm x 398mm xorg.conf is almost empty: $ cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf | grep -v ^# Section Device Identifier Configured Video Device Driver radeon EndSection Regards, Bernie -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
