Bug#631068: nyquist: Commercial use of xlisp not allowed
Hello Roger, I've recently learned that one of the nyquist files contains license terms contrary to the Debian Free Software Guidelines (DFSG) [ http://www.debian.org/social_contract#guidelines ]: On Sat, Jun 25, 2011 at 07:52:01PM +0200, Sam Geeraerts wrote: The file xlisp/xlbfun.c contains the following license notice: /* Copyright (c) 1985, by David Michael Betz All Rights Reserved Permission is granted for unrestricted non-commercial use */ This clearly does not permit commercial use. In the worst interpretation it also doesn't allow modification or distribution. Nearly the same file is also used in Audacity, see bug 631068. I've just checked and found the latest release of xlisp [ http://www.xlisp.org/ ] has a new license that is compatible the DFSG. Would you consider replacing the problematic files when you make a new release? Thanks, -Steve signature.asc Description: Digital signature

IIRC conkeror's upstream is also going in that direction. They used some commandline options to get the GRE version before IIRC. Except there is no xulrunner binary ;) So if you want to support several versions, you need to scan for xulrunner-1.9, xulrunner-1.9.1, xulrunner-1.9.2, xulrunner-2.0, xulrunner-5.0, xulrunner-6.0, etc. It's not because conkeror is fortunate enough to work with different versions that we can assume everything will. Sure. I though think that instantbird is the only other non-mozilla xulrunner application in Debian besides conkeror. But it uses a binary component and thus is effectively tied to a single version. Alternatively you could stuff them into debian/clean. That should get rid of the warning and thus the need to override. What makes me wonder more though is that you put autotools-dev into the Build-Depends yet do not seem to make use of it. Moreover you specify this package is only suitable to build on i386 and amd64. Most probably these are the only platforms that you've built and tested this on - but apart from this, is there any known limitation why it would not be buildable on any other arch? Shouldn't the source be arch:any rather? Regarding the embedded celt I'm probably as unhappy with the solution as the rest and I'm inclined to say it should be packaged separately to scale better. Yet I also see that'd be stepping quite a lot onto the celt maintainers (who don't want the celt051 in the first place). Your patches are not marked as forwarded upstream. I guess upstream would be interested in them though. So please try to find out about the arch:all issue, add the missing autotools-dev files replacement and report back to get the upload prepared. Bug#633343: xserver-xorg-core: No keyboard after fresh install
A friend of mine had some problem with input devices in xorg. We used a workaround - explicitly configure input devices in xorg.conf: in section ServerFlags disable option AutoEnableDevices and add InputDevice section for keyboard and mouse (the drivers we used were kbd and mouse from xserver-xorg-input-{kbd,mouse} package maybe evdev would work as well). Without it the only way we found to terminate gdm was using magic SysRq. I could give you more details if you like, but using xorg.conf like back in the old days should be enought. I don't see any line like egrep 'Loading.*input' /var/log/Xorg.0.log in your log. I don't know if this is the right way to solve this issue, but it works for me. -- Package-specific info: lsb_release output -*- -*- -*- -*- -*- LSB Version: core-2.0-ia32:core-2.0-noarch:core-3.0-ia32:core-3.0-noarch:core-3.1-ia32:core-3.1-noarch:core-3.2-ia32:core-3.2-noarch Distributor ID: Debian Description:Debian GNU/Linux experimental (sid) Release:experimental Codename: sid -*- -*- -*- -*- -*- Apt policy -*- -*- -*- -*- -*- Package files: 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status release a=now 500 http://dl.google.com/linux/talkplugin/deb/ stable/main i386 Packages release v=1.0,o=Google, Inc.,a=stable,n=stable,l=Google,c=main origin dl.google.com -100 http://archive.getdeb.net/ubuntu/ maverick-getdeb/apps i386 Packages release v=10.10,o=GetDeb,a=maverick-getdeb,n=maverick-getdeb,l=GetDeb,c=apps origin archive.getdeb.net 550 http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/debian/ squeeze/contrib i386 Packages release o=Oracle Corporation,n=squeeze,l=Oracle Corporation,c=contrib origin download.virtualbox.org 520 http://deb.opera.com/opera/ testing/non-free i386 Packages release o=Opera Software ASA,a=testing,n=wheezy,l=The Opera web browser,c=non-free origin deb.opera.com 520 http://download.skype.com/linux/repos/debian/ stable/non-free i386 Packages origin download.skype.com 500 http://mi.mirror.garr.it/mirrors/debian-multimedia/ unstable/non-free Translation-it 500 http://mi.mirror.garr.it/mirrors/debian-multimedia/ unstable/non-free Translation-en 500 http://mi.mirror.garr.it/mirrors/debian-multimedia/ unstable/main Translation-it 500 http://mi.mirror.garr.it/mirrors/debian-multimedia/ unstable/main Translation-en -12 http://mi.mirror.garr.it/mirrors/debian-multimedia/ unstable/non-free i386 Packages release v=None,o=Unofficial Multimedia Packages,a=unstable,n=sid,l=Unofficial Multimedia Packages,c=non-free origin mi.mirror.garr.it -12 http://mi.mirror.garr.it/mirrors/debian-multimedia/ unstable/main i386 Packages release v=None,o=Unofficial Multimedia Packages,a=unstable,n=sid,l=Unofficial Multimedia Packages,c=main origin mi.mirror.garr.it 500 http://mi.mirror.garr.it/mirrors/debian-multimedia/ testing/non-free Translation-it 500 http://mi.mirror.garr.it/mirrors/debian-multimedia/ testing/non-free Translation-en 500 http://mi.mirror.garr.it/mirrors/debian-multimedia/ testing/main Translation-it 500 http://mi.mirror.garr.it/mirrors/debian-multimedia/ testing/main Translation-en 110 http://mi.mirror.garr.it/mirrors/debian-multimedia/ testing/non-free i386 Packages release v=None,o=Unofficial Multimedia Packages,a=testing,n=wheezy,l=Unofficial Multimedia Packages,c=non-free origin mi.mirror.garr.it 110 http://mi.mirror.garr.it/mirrors/debian-multimedia/ testing/main i386 Packages release v=None,o=Unofficial Multimedia Packages,a=testing,n=wheezy,l=Unofficial Multimedia Packages,c=main origin mi.mirror.garr.it 900 http://security.debian.org/ testing/updates/non-free i386 Packages release o=Debian,a=testing,n=wheezy,l=Debian-Security,c=non-free origin security.debian.org 900 http://security.debian.org/ testing/updates/contrib i386 Packages release o=Debian,a=testing,n=wheezy,l=Debian-Security,c=contrib origin security.debian.org 900 http://security.debian.org/ testing/updates/main i386 Packages release o=Debian,a=testing,n=wheezy,l=Debian-Security,c=main origin security.debian.org -10 http://ftp.it.debian.org/debian/ experimental/non-free i386 Packages release o=Debian,a=experimental,n=experimental,l=Debian,c=non-free origin ftp.it.debian.org -10 http://ftp.it.debian.org/debian/ experimental/contrib i386 Packages release o=Debian,a=experimental,n=experimental,l=Debian,c=contrib origin ftp.it.debian.org -10 http://ftp.it.debian.org/debian/ experimental/main i386 Packages release o=Debian,a=experimental,n=experimental,l=Debian,c=main origin ftp.it.debian.org 500 http://ftp.it.debian.org/debian/ unstable/main Translation-it 12 http://ftp.it.debian.org/debian/ unstable/non-free i386 Packages release o=Debian,a=unstable,n=sid,l=Debian,c=non-free origin ftp.it.debian.org 12 http://ftp.it.debian.org/debian/ unstable/contrib i386 Packages release o=Debian,a=unstable,n=sid,l=Debian,c=contrib origin ftp.it.debian.org 12 http://ftp.it.debian.org/debian/ unstable/main i386 Packages release o=Debian,a=unstable,n=sid,l=Debian,c=main origin ftp.it.debian.org 500 http://ftp.it.debian.org/debian/ testing/main Translation-it 900 http://ftp.it.debian.org/debian/

Both systems use up to date Squeeze amd64 and iceweasel. I agree with Henrik that X doesn't actually crash. The fullscreen image of the video freezes, but when trying to leave fullscreen the video goes on playing (I hear the sound) and the mouse cursor also acts like I'm back in non-fullscreen mode, i.e. it changes at the border of windows for resizing etc. However I haven't found a way to get rid of that frozen fullscreen video image, so I also had to kill X to get a usable desktop again. Furthermore /maybe/ this happens when something is displayed on top of the fullscreen image, like a message from xosd-bin (when I press the laptops volume buttons I have messages displayed) - but this could have been a coincidence. This is intel video driver bug which is pretty common when using kwin (kde- window-manager) with OpenGL desktop effects enabled. Not sure if you want to reassign it given the flash plugin is proprietary. Bug#487924: subversion: package has no documentation
retitle 487924 RFP: svnbook -- Subversion handbook (Version Control With Subversion) quit Hi Lee, lee wrote: Hm, the URL to the documentation is http://svnbook.red-bean.com/, not http://svn-book.red-bean.com/ as was displayed in the manpage due to the size of the terminal. However, it's arguable that a commandline tool should require using a GUI to be able to read its documentation and that the documentation isn't available in the distribution. Makes sense. The need for fleshed-out manpages is already documented at http://bugs.debian.org/378056, so let's use this bug to track progress in packaging the svnbook for Debian. (To be clear, alas I don't think I'll have time to work on this in the immediate future.) Bug#635168: accountsservice: Only one user shows up ad gdm3 login screen, or in the user editor in GNOME 3
Package: accountsservice Version: 0.6.12-5 Severity: important Since I installed debian, and upgraded accountsservice to the latest version, I stopped being able to see more than one user (the one with the largest UID) in the gdm3 login window. Each time, I have to select other... and manually type the user name (there are 4 users on this machine). Moreover, the unlock screen for the screensaver displays the wrong user when waiting for the password, and I cannot see any other user in the GNOME 3 Edit users window. If I am logged in with my administrator account, for instance, I cannot even change my own details such as name or portrait, as I am not the user with the highest UID. The same package installed on another PC (amd64 arch) does not have this problem. It seem to be a powerpc-specific issue. This might be caused also by consolekit or similar packages, but I'm giving my best shot and say it's an issue of accountsservice on powerpc. -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: powerpc (ppc64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.39-2-powerpc64 (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=it_IT.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=it_IT.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages accountsservice depends on: ii dbus 1.5.4-2simple interprocess messaging syst ii libaccountsservice0 0.6.12-5 query and manipulate user account ii libc6 2.13-10Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libdbus-1-3 1.5.4-2simple interprocess messaging syst ii libdbus-glib-1-2 0.94-4 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libglib2.0-0 2.28.6-2 GLib library of C routines ii libpolkit-gobject-1-0 0.101-4PolicyKit Authorization API accountsservice recommends no packages. What options was it built with (e.g., ssl, zip)? 2. What state is the system in? (i.e., there is no subversion repository on your system. You need to create one if you want it. If you want to use Apache, you will need to x, y, and z.). You might also mention other setup that's necessary (e.g., I think ssl needs some certificates to be generated; I suppose apache needs tweaking). Then, but this is getting more into the scope of 173960, some advice or cookbook on how to set up (what directory? what ownership and permissions?) would be good too. Sorry for the long silence. If I understand correctly, you are suggesting something like bash's README.Debian has, documenting choices made during packaging. Sounds like a good idea; retitling as a reminder for the future. Meanwhile the need to help people get started with their own svn servers is documented in Bug#173960, as you mentioned. Care to suggest wording for either? Realistically speaking, that's the simplest way to get this fixed soon and well. :) Thanks, Jonathan -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#635171: gnome-shell depends on obseleted ( no longer available) libmozjs4d
Package: gnome-shell Version: 3.0.2-1 Severity: grave Tags: upstream Justification: renders package unusable libmozjs4d has been obseleted and removed from the debian repositories (I believe due to a security vulnerability). Bug#635111: Acknowledgement (libnss3-1d: java.io.FileNotFoundException: /usr/lib/libnss3.so in 3.12.10-2 )
Apparently people are ahead of me, and somehow I'm not being notified of changes to the bug even though I reported it (?). Yes, changing the path in /etc/java-6-openjdk/security/nss.cfg makes this work again. Last night when I tried this it didn't seem to work; I got an actual crash, with *** glibc detected *** java: free(): invalid next size (fast): 0x7fb9a8509bf0 ***, but today that does not happen. I think that crash may have happened while I still had incorrect remnants of an earlier attempt to fix the problem still in place. I agree, on further information this does seem to be a problem with openjdk rather than with libnss3. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Here's a patch for open-iscsi to add a udeb, which is the first step in making this work. Once this has landed, I'll merge the partman-iscsi work I've done into the d-i repository. I was wondering why the upstream iscsistart is not included in the udeb. That way it would be possible to simply call iscsistart -b if an iBFT table is present to auto-configure the iSCSI settings, without having to prompt the user. Bug#635172: clementine do not respect user locale
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA512 Package: clementine Version: 0.7.1+dfsg-1 Severity: normal My locale is de_DE, as you can see below. In additional I set G_FILENAME_ENCODING=@locale to fix gtk applications. So my locale and the locale of my filesystem is ISO-8859-1. But when I try to play a file with a valid latin1 character like german umlauts the file is not played. In any case (start the playback from commandline or start it via graphical frontend) the file is displayed correct but clementine tries to access the file to play using UTF-8 which is not correct. Funny is that the display also display the mp3 tags correct so the file handling is not always broken. - -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (800, 'unstable'), (700, 'stable'), (60, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.38.6 (SMP w/8 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=de_DE, LC_CTYPE=de_DE (charmap=ISO-8859-1) (ignored: LC_ALL set to de_DE) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages clementine depends on: ii gstreamer0.10-alsa 0.10.35-1 GStreamer plugin for ALSA ii gstreamer0.10-plugin 0.10.35-1 GStreamer plugins from the base ii gstreamer0.10-plugin 0.10.30-1 GStreamer plugins from the good ii gstreamer0.10-plugin 0.10.18-1 GStreamer plugins from the ugly ii libc62.13-10 Embedded GNU C Library: Shared lib ii libechonest1.1 1.1.8-1 Qt library for communicating with ii libgcc1 1:4.6.1-4 GCC support library ii libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0 2.23.5-2GDK Pixbuf library ii libglib2.0-0 2.28.6-1The GLib library of C routines ii libgpod4 0.8.0-3 library to read and write songs an ii libgstreamer0.10-0 0.10.35-1 Core GStreamer libraries and eleme ii libimobiledevice11.0.6-3 Library for communicating with the ii liblastfm0 0.4.0~git20090710-1 The Last.fm web services library ii libmtp8 1.0.6-7 Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) libr ii libplist11.6-1 Library for handling Apple binary ii libprojectm2 2.0.1+dfsg-9Advanced Milkdrop-compatible music ii libqt4-dbus 4:4.7.3-5 Qt 4 D-Bus module ii libqt4-network 4:4.7.3-5 Qt 4 network module ii libqt4-opengl4:4.7.3-5 Qt 4 OpenGL module ii libqt4-sql 4:4.7.3-5 Qt 4 SQL module ii libqt4-sql-sqlite4:4.7.3-5 Qt 4 SQLite 3 database driver ii libqt4-xml 4:4.7.3-5 Qt 4 XML module ii libqtcore4 4:4.7.3-5 Qt 4 core module ii libqtgui44:4.7.3-5 Qt 4 GUI module ii libqxt-core0 0.6.1-1 extensions to Qt core classes (Lib ii libqxt-gui0 0.6.1-1 extensions to Qt GUI classes (LibQ ii libstdc++6 4.6.1-4 GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libtag1c2a 1.7-1 audio meta-data library ii libusb-0.1-4 2:0.1.12-17 userspace USB programming library ii libusbmuxd1 1.0.7-1 USB multiplexor daemon for iPhone ii libx11-6 2:1.4.3-2 X11 client-side library ii libxml2 2.7.8.dfsg-3GNOME XML library ii projectm-data2.0.1+dfsg-9Advanced Milkdrop-compatible music ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3.4.dfsg-3compression library - runtime clementine recommends no packages. clementine suggests no packages. - -- no debconf information - -- Klaus Ethgen http://www.ethgen.ch/ pub 4096R/4E20AF1C 2011-05-16 Klaus Ethgen kl...@ethgen.de Fingerprint: 85D4 CA42 952C 949B 1753 62B3 79D0 B06F 4E20 AF1C -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.4.11 (GNU/Linux) iQGcBAEBCgAGBQJOKrY+AAoJEK8RO3RE9oVxzbYL/RIws3hdNDM3j851BiCN7EXr 07Etiqch3WDV+mVNw3zvhq3O6pZkTzQlZ7smx4cSzBgUWaeVC4V41Jjt81n7y+nw t4CG4jBFRLgzAJ7YkLXgV2cIaitanoA8jpHza/GM08G9U4qhxQO2P9ii8P80eQSD a0UEMB9vSFsOk+x3i3cvhZBNfnLyPw+WGpTx+s4QGJGu6oIQJDCDKenROfD+GeNk uAiSz1Wnfdiwo1IVt1Mx80OubdxQOEeEXI9GcbwzggK8ZSpBVWuOI39C1yXvaNQP rINtcxFEf1s9HazHbVz3O6ik39qhPU5llGkLLQyZfc2a7CCoa7YanvyqzzCWLfGy plTQNX6AXrR5xgYX64kivdx9wSXT+EG06iPVXA0o+ihT/6hGf+/tprtBmF8gwuO7 4PsdSb4XMADqUoMpTL/WsUz3kELES9ioDckauiSQDXnmgczEu8YcqoVfDFUTRiRG c/9DYiH4jsTZpIhEByw7Vzh62gmjH0B8TG4qd5UrVg== =8q5X -END PGP SIGNATURE- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#635173: ufsutils: mkfs.ufs and libufs not functional under standard Linux: could not find special device
Package: ufsutils Version: 8.2-1 Severity: important ufsutils version 7.1-2 exposed a similar bug which was reported/fixed in http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=526586 and the problem I am experiencing is very closely related (if not exactly the same). Let's create a blockdevice to get started with: edb@lapedb:~$ sudo modprobe rd edb@lapedb:~$ ls -hal /dev/ram0 brw-rw 1 root disk 1, 0 Jul 23 13:35 /dev/ram0 This gives us the following behavior: edb@lapedb:~$ sudo mkfs.ufs -O 2 -J -N /dev/sdb5 mkfs.ufs: /dev/sdb5: could not find special device edb@lapedb:~$ sudo ffsinfo /dev/ram0 ffsinfo: ufs_disk_fillout(/dev/ram0) failed: could not find special device: Success edb@lapedb:~$ sudo dumpfs.ufs /dev/ram0 dumpfs.ufs: /dev/ram0: could not find special device A clear pattern is emerging. When looking at an strace, we can clearly see it fails after a stat (and after reading /etc/fstab): stat64(/dev/sdb5, {st_mode=S_IFBLK|0660, st_rdev=makedev(8, 21), ...}) = 0 brk(0) = 0x920d000 brk(0x922f000) = 0x922f000 open(/etc/fstab, O_RDONLY)= 3 fstat64(3, {st_mode=S_IFREG|0644, st_size=665, ...}) = 0 mmap2(NULL, 4096, PROT_READ|PROT_WRITE, MAP_PRIVATE|MAP_ANONYMOUS, -1, 0) = 0xb776b000 read(3, # /etc/fstab: static file system..., 4096) = 665 read(3, , 4096) = 0 write(2, mkfs.ufs: , 10mkfs.ufs: ) = 10 write(2, /dev/sdb5: could not find specia..., 40/dev/sdb5: could not find special device) = 40 write(2, \n, 1 ) = 1 exit_group(1) = ? After apt-get source ufsutils and running a make (btw I need to specify CC=gcc-4.4 since gcc-4.6.1 is complaining a lot and even then I need to comment some things out to build and link properly). Then a gdb shows the following (after a breakpoint in stat): (gdb) 0x0804f0ec in stat () (gdb) n Single stepping until exit from function stat, which has no line number information. ufs_disk_fillout_blank (disk=0x8054ce0, name=0xbe15 /dev/sdb5) at type.c:111 111 if (ret = 0 S_ISREG(st.st_mode)) { (gdb) print name $1 = 0xbe15 /dev/sdb5 (gdb) print st $2 = {st_dev = 5, __pad1 = 0, st_ino = 218104, st_mode = 25008, st_nlink = 1, st_uid = 0, st_gid = 25, st_rdev = 2069, __pad2 = 0, st_size = 0, st_blksize = 4096, st_blocks = 0, st_atim = {tv_sec = 1311416552, tv_nsec = 146218743}, st_mtim = { tv_sec = 1311416552, tv_nsec = 146218743}, st_ctim = {tv_sec = 1311416552, tv_nsec = 146218743}, __unused4 = 0, __unused5 = 0} (gdb) s 117 } else if ((fs = getfsfile(name)) != NULL) { (gdb) n 128 } else if (ret = 0 S_ISDIR(st.st_mode)) { (gdb) quit But this again points to type.c and near line 114 this shows: } else if (ret = 0 (S_ISCHR(st.st_mode) S_ISBLK(st.st_mode)) (which is already a debian specific patch (ref ufsutils-8.2/debian/patches/01_libufs.patch) which contains the following: - } else if (ret = 0 S_ISCHR(st.st_mode)) { + } else if (ret = 0 (S_ISCHR(st.st_mode) S_ISBLK(st.st_mode))) { /* This is what we need, do nothing. */ ; However, as far as my humble knowledge goes, I don't see how a /dev entry can be both a character _and_ a block device (hence a logical || instead of a might be more suitable in that patch). Bug#628702: New release changes ICD dependencies
Hello. New PyOpenCL version (2011.1.2) is in Debian. I have changed OpenCL-related dependencies. Now, instead of requiring NVIDIA libopencl, package depends on virtual opencl-icd, and different packages can provide it. Package still contains build-dependency on NVIDIA's libopencl-dev. Please test whether this is the correct run-time solution for this bug, and if so, whether this bug can be closed or should I wait for non-NVIDIA OpenCL libraries to also fix build-dependencies. Michel Dänzer arrived at the conclusion that the problem might rather be related to xfwm4 or maybe GTK. He suggested asking you about it. Interestingly, the problem goes away when I run xfwm4 --replace What is your opinion? Is it an xfwm thingy? My guess is that the xressources aren't loaded correctly before xfwm4 is started. As Xressources are only used for program started *after* they are loaded, the fact that restarting xfwm4 fixes the issue means they are loaded too late. Can you check in gdm3 that the session you are using is “Xfce Session” and not default X session or something like that (no idea how it's called in gdm3).
