Does this only happen with this CD-ROM or with all CDs? Could you try a 3.x kernel from wheezy, sid, or experimental and let us know how it behaves? The only updated packages from outside stable that should be needed in order to try it are linux-base and initramfs-tools. (Since the tag causes fatal auto-reject, it's quite important to avoid false-positives...) I propose to exclude all test_*_pyc.py[co] files from the check. Hi, I am not entirely convinced here. I agree that false-positives for auto-reject tags are bad and we should keep them to an absolute minimum. However, poking a bit in the jython source package I learned that some of these (if not all) appears to be unit tests. I guess these are not meant to be installed in the binary package. I say we re-assign this to Jython for now. If these tests serve a real purpose at runtime for Jython, we can always make the exception there. ~Niels -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. This behavior is common to many web browsers (it is mandated by W3C standards, if I recall correctly) and Midori is no exception. However, Galeon, Iceweasel, and also Chromium remember visited links (and continue to show them in visited link style) across sessions, as long as the visited page is present in the browser history. This is not the case for Midori (or for Epiphany, for that matter): visited links seem to be forgotten, as soon as I quit Midori. This is unpractical, as I find it useful to clearly see which links I have already visited during recent browsing sessions (say, in the past few days or weeks). Is this an intended behavior or a bug? To be honest I'm not sure. But it seems here it doesn't even change color when I click on links so it might just be broken. This latter information should be readily available already, or at least traceable, and the first piece of information is even simpler to register. probably. but then it's also easy to setup a daily cronjob which runs debootstrap :-) Also/but I think the correct solution is to setup automated d-i installation tests, (and not to add more functionality to piuparts which is basically outside of piuparts scope). Bug#643961: Packaging libmonitoring-availability-perl

October 2011: I just noticed that you already tagged the RFP with 'pending' but did not saw any upload to the NEW queue. I would like to ask, if you already packaged it. The reason I ask is, that I just startet with the packaging of it in the Debian Perl Group repo [1]. [1] http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=pkg-perl/packages/libmonitoring-availability-perl.git So it is quite finished. Would you like to maintain libmonitoring-availability-perl yourself? Else I could maintain it under the Debian Perl Group umbrella. It is aleady finished and I could bet I uploaded it. It seems my internet connectivity in the car wasn't as good as I thought :). It should be uploaded in a few minutes. Sorry if you had wasted work, but I think I tagged it really early after the bug was filed. That's no problem at all! It took me not that much time to package it and unfortunately I noticed the pending tag only afterwards. I will remove it again from our pkg-perl Repository. Thanks for your work too Alexander! Suggestions added and uploaded. Thanks Alex -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org

Bug#644685: liboss4-salsa-dev: Please stop providing libasound-dev
Package: liboss4-salsa-dev Version: 4.2-build2004-1 Severity: important For whatever reason, liboss4-salsa-dev Provides: libasound2-dev _and_ libasound-dev, instead of just the former. This makes some packages still build-depending on libasound-dev unintentionally build against OSS4 instead of libasound2. I plan to stop providing libasound-dev in libasound2-dev, as libasound-dev has been unavailable in Debian for over 8 years, and will file bugs for every package declaring B-Ds on that so they switch to just libasound2-dev, as it should be. Before I can do that, though, you need to stop providing libasound-dev too, or I won't fix anything that isn't broken right now. Bug#640737: [copyright-format] Format URL and installation on www.debian.org
tag 640737 + patch thanks Dear all, to summarise: * http://www.debian.org/doc/packaging-manuals/copyright-format/version/ will allow the copyright-format specification to become a multi-page HTML document if it gets significantly expanded, but on the other hand, somebody downloading the current one-page spec will get a file called ‘index.html’. * Rebuilding the distributed document at each upload may cause it to change in layout or in checksum, but on the other hand ensures that it is continuously buildable. My point of view is that the copyright-format specification is not likely to be enlarged to the point of neeeding to separate its chapters in different files (there is SPDX…) and that the source document uses only simple DocBook 4.5 tags which makes it very unlikely to become unbuildable with the default XSL stylesheet it uses. Moreover, I am biased by the culture in my profession to not change even a single comma of a published work, so my personnal preference would have been to distribute files like copyright-format-1.0.html, committed with their source in the debian-policy Git repository. This said, this point of view had no support from other participants in this discussion. So I propose to do the following, in line with the other propositions. a) Apply the attached patch to point at http://www.debian.org/doc/packaging-manuals/copyright-format/1.0/ in the spec. b) When the 1.0 version is finalised, (re)build at each upload copyright-format/copyright-format.xml, copyright-format/copyright-format-1.0.xml, and so on for the future revisions. c) Distribute the versionned and unversionned HTML and text builds in the debian-policy binary package. (Assuming that if since nobody proposed to stop distributing the unversionned build, it is that people want it to stay). I will propose a patch to implement the building and distribution of released versions and current draft, but before doing so, I would like to know if it would be acceptable to have them in /usr/share/doc/debian-policy, or if the published versions should be in a separate directory. Bug#618675: postgresql: Please include systemd service file
Hello Michael, Martin Pitt [2011-03-27 17:22 +0200]: Reassigning to postgresql-common, as the script looks like being inteded to be version independent (just like the current init.d script). Also, it starts quite a bit faster due to not having to run a shell script and a perl script (pg_ctlcluster). This does need to use pg_ctlcluster, I'm afraid. With the proposed service file you'd break the postgresql-common structure completely, i. e. it disregards multiple clusters, cluster owners, data dir/start.conf and other configuration, and also circumvent the sanity checks. Any update on this? If not, I'll just close the bug. Thanks, and enjoy the weekend! Bug#644700: Preferences aren't loaded (with external HD)
Package: deja-dup Version: 18.1.1-2.1 Severity: important I have (since months) deja-dup configured to backup on an external drive; preferences are correct (seems so) in gconf, but when I open deja-dup (in any way, be it to backup or restore), it starts as if it was unconfigured (asking me i.e. to configure the Amazon account). Attached is the output of gconftool --dump /apps/deja-dup. The bug looks similar to https://bugs.launchpad.net/deja-dup/+bug/774897 , but not really the same (deja-dup never crashed to me, and on the other hand the workaround didn't work for me). I also tried to recompile applying the attached patch (coming from the Ubuntu package), but with no luck. Bug#644701: libfile-which-perl: package description
Package: libfile-which-perl Version: 1.08-1 Severity: wishlist Dear Maintainers, working on the translation of the package description to German I found an issue, at least for me ;-) The former translation was plain wrong. I believe rewording the description (1) will make it better comprehensible. Description: Perl module for searching paths for executable programs File::Which searches directories of a user's PATH (as returned by File::Spec) and looks for executable files having the name specified as a parameter to which(), simulating the behaviour of the standard `which' program. Obiously we find upstream's (2) wording: DESCRIPTION File::Which was created to be able to get the paths to executable programs on systems under which the `which' program wasn't implemented in the shell. ** File::Which searches the directories of the user's PATH (as returned by File::Spec-path()), looking for executable files having the name specified as a parameter to which(). ** Under Win32 systems, which do not have a notion of directly executable files, but uses special extensions such as .exe and .bat to identify them, File::Which takes extra steps to assure that you will find the correct file (so for example, you might be searching for perl, it'll try perl.exe, perl.bat, etc.) The way I understand the description, the following might be an alternative File::Which simulates the behavior of the standard 'which' program: it searches directories of a user's PATH (as returned by File::Spec) and looks for executable files. Bug#611493: Further investigations
Hi, Recently, my system had more and more difficulties to boot and ended up with no network connection (no /dev/eth0). So I decided to reinstall the whole system on a native partition on another disk, leaving only /home on the lvm/raid0. Again, I fail to boot (see initram shell dmesg attached + mounts + /dev/mapper contents). This has been systematic while booting in rescue mode is fine. Not very handy, but I boot in rescue mode, log in as root and init 4. So far it works. There must be something that the initram script does not do too well which is revealed by my computer. I will investigate the difference between quiet and single options. Bug#578787: Fwd: [Open Octave Development] New Anouncement List
Hi, it seems to me we don't even have the package in Debian yet, altough there is an ITP (#578787), and a git repo: http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=pkg-multimedia/oomidi.git It seems to me that 'oomidi' might not be the best name for the package. How about renaming it to openoctave? Just to clarify, Jonas, Adrian, are you still interested and working on the package? I personally won't have time and hardware to work on it, but it seems to me that the package is a bit in the limbo since April. In any case, I think a working package and a watch file is more useful for pkg-multimedia than subscribing to yet another mailinglist. But YMMV. Bug#644706: banshee: crash when loading a song
Package: banshee Version: 2.2.0-1 Severity: important Hi there, After last system updates (Debian Testing) today I discovered that my Banshee is completely unusable. Yesterday It was running fine. There's dpkg.log, which shows, what exactly changed in my system (before update, it was fine!): http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=ndkrXvXV There's 3 complete debug logs from banshee crashes: http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=1sCCert0 http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=KTzJukBg http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=KXGWN9gQ How to reproduce: Open Banshee. Double click on one of your smart playlist (for example). Music should play now, first track. What's happening: Banshee closed instantly with crash output in terminal. Bug#644626: [Piuparts-devel] Bug#644626: piuparts: Testing package data compression
Dear Holger, lördag den 8 oktober 2011 klockan 10:39 skrev Holger Levsen detta: Hi Mats, On Freitag, 7. Oktober 2011, Mats Erik Andersson wrote: Would it be possible, and suitable, to have Piuparts implement an examination of the compression type used on a package? I'm not sure it would be suitable.. as one could see in the bugs you mentioned, those bugs are detected manually very fast, as they completly break d-i/debootstrap. Yes, but they did so because the three packages were built in way that would predictably break the bootstraping stage. libacl1 and libattr1 were blockers for thirteen days, the time span for libgssglue1 cannot be determined from its changelog alone. Personally, I would have wanted an automatic detection that sent a warning to the maintainer almost immediately after the upload into the unstable pool. While on the other hand... To prevent bugs like those mentioned, one would need to identify which compression types the bootstrapper supports in the installer at all times how would you do that? A human statement regarding compression capabilities found in the debian-installer and possibly a verification that the packages brought in by deboostrap-base did not add some further decompression facilities. An automatic detection is probably beyond reach. , and one would need to keep track of which dependencies are brought in by the installer. how would you do that? (I think thats easier than the former, but still...) Examine the dependency tree present in the debootstrap-base. This is the installer step that broke in both the cited bugs. The resolution of this bzcat bug family was delayed by the weak error message produced by debootstrap. (I will file a wishlist bug on this.) Thus an automated installation test would only tell that something was broken, but it would not have given pointers to the three library packages. Only curiosity and some inspired manual inspection brought the culprits to daylight. There is a lot more which can go wrong in d-i (ie breakage of common tasks), and IMHO there should be automatic tests to detect those. So I'm very tempted to close this bug as wontfix. Comments from other people reading this? You are most probably correct in both these respects. But the ball might now be rolling. Well you need to enable javascript to see the download. I just downloaded it with no problem. I could send you the file it's about 2.5 MB large - just tell me. However, I try the current installed version (3.0.0~dfsg1-1) and get the following: Thanks for the additional info I posted it upstream. Bug#644716: synapse: Missing french translation after upgrade
Package: synapse Version: 0.2.8.1-1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, After upgrading synapse from 0.2.6x to the 0.2.8.1-1 currently in wheezy, the program's interface is no longer translated into french. I don't know whether it is a build issue of if it's related to the upstream source, but this is a regression since synapse 0.2.6 was correctly displaying the french translation. Translation status on the project's launchpad page looks ok (French: 97%), so I wonder if we could get the translation in the official debian package? Thanks. Bug#644717: scans UNRELATED filesystems for DCIM directory
Package: gvfs-backends Version: 1.6.4-4 Severity: important Every time I attach my camera, all attahched USB disks are woken up (lenghty spinup). I traced this back to some stupid program which scans ALL filesystems looking for /dcim or /DCIM directories. And it seems to be caused by gvfs-* because removing the package and killing all gvfs... processes makes the problem go away. So the questions are... why does it scan totally unrelated filesystems? And why does it do this nonsense whatsoever? It's a PTP class device, there is no USB mass storage filesystem where you could search. Bug#644701: libfile-which-perl: package description
Martin Eberhard Schauer wrote: I believe rewording the description (1) will make it better comprehensible. Description: Perl module for searching paths for executable programs File::Which searches directories of a user's PATH (as returned by File::Spec) and looks for executable files having the name specified as a parameter to which(), simulating the behaviour of the standard `which' program. Do you mean you were having trouble with the syntax, and the ambiguity about which of the previously mentioned goings-on was being referred to as simulating the behaviour of the standard `which' program? Or is it the content that's a problem? Obiously we find upstream's (2) wording: DESCRIPTION File::Which was created to be able to get the paths to executable programs on systems under which the `which' program wasn't implemented in the shell. Implemented in the shell seems (from the description below) to be a factual error not present in the Debian package description's account. The only shell I know of with a which builtin is zsh, but if that's missing Perl would be perfectly capable of using /usr/bin/which (provided by the Essential package debianutils). ** File::Which searches the directories of the user's PATH (as returned by File::Spec-path()), looking for executable files having the name specified as a parameter to which(). ** Under Win32 systems, which do not have a notion of directly executable files, but uses special extensions such as .exe and .bat to identify them, File::Which takes extra steps to assure that you will find the correct file (so for example, you might be searching for perl, it'll try perl.exe, perl.bat, etc.) So it's a safety-net to ensure the availability of a command that on Debian is guaranteed to be available anyway? In other words, it's a module that exists only so that it can be listed in the dependencies of software that wants to have the same dependencies on Windows and Linux? If so, it might be helpful if the package description said so. The way I understand the description, the following might be an alternative Turning it round this way should remove the ambiguity mentioned above, yes. File::Which simulates the behavior of the standard 'which' program: it searches directories of a user's PATH (as returned by File::Spec) and looks for executable files. It doesn't just return success if it finds any executables in PATH directories; it looks for particular command names. You might abbreviate it to looking for executable files matching a given name, though. -- JBR with qualifications in linguistics, experience as a Debian sysadmin, and probably no clue about this particular package -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#644723: util-linux: /sbin/fsck fails with undefined symbol: set_com_err_gettext
Package: util-linux Version: 2.19.1-5 Severity: critical Justification: breaks the whole system Dear Maintainer, *** Please consider answering these questions, where appropiate *** * What led up to the situation? Updating some packages via dselect. * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? Shutting down the system normally and restarting it some hours later. * What was the outcome of this action? The system doesn't boot up because /sbin/fsck.ext3 (a symlink to /sbin/fsck) fails with the following error message: fsck from util-linux 2.19.1 fsck.ext3: symbol lookup error: fsck.ext3: undefined symbol: set_com_err_gettext * What outcome did you expect instead? A normal boot process. :-) As workaround, I booted from the debian installer CD and replaced my system's /sbin/fsck binary with the installer's one (explaining the debsums errors found). *** End of the template - remove these lines *** -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.0.0-1-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages util-linux depends on: ii debconf [debconf-2.0] 1.5.41 ii dpkg 1.16.1 ii initscripts2.88dsf-13.11 ii install-info 4.13a.dfsg.1-8 ii libblkid1 2.19.1-5 ii libc6 2.13-21 ii libncurses55.9-2 ii libselinux12.1.0-1 ii libslang2 2.2.4-3 ii libuuid1 2.19.1-5 ii lsb-base 3.2-28 ii tzdata 2011k-1 ii zlib1g 1:1.2.3.4.dfsg-3 util-linux recommends no packages. Bug#644451: sa-learn-cyrus: Version 0.3.4+dfsg1 dropped, virtual_user patch, breaking existing configurations.

Having this I would release sa-learn-cyrus-0.3.5 after a short time of testing. Is that OK? For me? Sure! Sounds perfectly reasonable. Hauke PS: You had some dotfiles (some Apple generated stuff?) in your 0.3.4 tarball. Could you make sure this doesn't happen?
