Bug#685180: RFS: sniffit/0.3.7.beta-17
Hi William, I had a look at the package at mentors uploaded there on 2012-08-21 23:06. I see that the package adds DM-Upload-Allowed: yes. Was this agreed with some sponsor who is going to upload this ? I suggest to also fix bug 685419 by removing the Homepage field from debian/control. I'm not sure about the severity of bug 685419, and thereby the fitness for wheezy. I'd allow this in wheezy but I'm not a release manager. You may also mention in debian/copyright that the upstream source code can no longer be retrieved at the mentioned location, but I don't read that in debian-policy so that is optional in my opinion. Bug#682010: [mumble] Communication failures due to CELT codec library removal
On Tuesday, August 14, 2012 11:36:33, Ian Jackson wrote: […] 13. Option 1: I've prepared another version of Mumble based on the mumble-1.2.3-412-g6c9694d release snapshot on August 3rd. This pacakge is built as described above, and also supports Opus via the Debian opus system library which uses Opus version 0.9.14. I've tested: - communication via Opus with the 349-2 version in Sid - communication via Opus with another version of the 412 pacakge that uses the embedded 0.9.8 version of Opus that ships with the Mumble upstream source - communication via Celt 0.7.1 with several other clients Option 2: Using the mumble-348-fixes-embedded patch I sent on Aug 1st, and upload a new version of 348 that's in Wheezy. [Needs modification to add a Closes: #675971 in the changelog.] I haven't yet gotten any feedback on the patch. Related question: Can a DD upload a package to Sid with a lower version number than what is currently in the archive? Option 3: Manipulate the 349-2 source in Sid, fix it, and upload a 349-3. I was investigating this in order to minimize the diff necessary, but I'm not sure what all of the implications are of the modifications done to the orig.tar.gz tarball compared to the upstream repo it's based on. Some of the changes simply look like they might be innocuous autoconf stuff added, but there are also some scripts and build files removed. File containing the list of differences attached. I don't think the presence of either of these bugs warrants delaying migration, since a lot of important bugs are fixed by migration, and they could certainly use wider testing before release. #679409 is not a sysvinit bug; this has been moved to lightdm. #672959 has been fixed thanks to the effors of the kfreebsd porters, with fixed packages being here: http://people.debian.org/~rleigh/sysvinit/sysvinit_2.88dsf-33.dsc (also fixed in git) sysvinit 2.88dsf-32 is just coming up to being 10 days old. Receive a second image, when receiving is fully done a segfault occurs. If only a partial image is received the problem does not occur (or not always). Bug#685593: icedove can lockup on arches with pagesize != 4kB
Package: icedove Version: 10.0.6-2 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, First of all, many thanks for applying the fix to build icedove on Alpha so quickly! It is much appreciated. I have now been running icedove version 10.0.6-2 on my Alpha to give it a bit of a work out and have an issue to report. Once only while using icedove it completely froze up, continuously churned up 100% CPU, and would not respond to mouse or keyboard input. Icedove never recovered. At the time I did not have icedove-dbg installed, nevertheless I did connect gdb to the frozen icedove process and got enough info from a backtrace to deduce what I believe to be the problem. The backtrack ended in the libc routine madvise() which was called from libmozjs. This looks suspiciously like bug #660960 reported against iceweasel also reported upstream for Mozilla Firefox: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=746112 It affects any platform that has pagesize larger than 4kB (on Alpha pagesize is 8kB). There is a patch for a work around attached to the Mozilla bug report (comment 7) that fixes the problem for ppc64. Any chance that the patch (modified to include all relevant arches) can be applied to icedove as well? Some reports indicate that MIPS and Sparc may also be affected and could do with the work around, and if that is true, then this bug affects release architectures. Package: source:hotswap Version: 0.4.0-12 Severity: minor Dear Alberto! The KDE GUI isn't built anymore since version 0.4.0-12, but this change hasn't been reflected in the package descriptions. hotswap-gui talks about GUI front-ends in the short description (I'd use GUI frontend or GUI Motif front-end instead). hotswap mentions that Depends on both the command line tool and the graphical front-ends, it should be singular here as well (and maybe depends without a capital letter). Bug#685353: qemu-kvm: kvm process hangs with 100% CPU usage
found 685353 1.1.1+dfsg-1 thanks Hi Michael, The hanging kvm process uses 100% CPU, there's no serial console anymore, no access to VNC anymore. No output on netconsole either. Unfortunately, I cannot even get a useful gdb backtrace: Finally, I figured out how to get a useful backtrace. Running gdb and then using attach $PID doesn't give me symbols, but gdb /usr/bin/kvm -p $PID does (tested with qemu-kvm{,-dbg} 1.1.1+dfsg-1). I will send a backtrace as soon as the problem occurs again. After 1,5 days kvm hung up again (100% CPU, as above, same kernels, qemu-kvm 1.1.1+dfsg-1). This time I could get a backtrace using gdb that shows that the bug is in the audio code/emulation. So I'd like to be more precise about the audio configuration. The host has a ASUS Xonar DX PCI-e audio card. As the host does not have an IOMMU, I'm using an emulated ES1370 in the guest to capture host audio input. Due to VNC, which I enabled trying to debug the guest crashes, I had to use vnc_allow_host_audio = 1 in /etc/libvirt/qemu.conf, otherwise libvirt would set QEMU_AUDIO_DRV to none for some reason. AFAICT qemu-kvm is now using the host's ALSA as the backend for the emulated sound card. The crashes happen with VNC enabled or not. lspci output for the host audio card: 03:04.0 Multimedia audio controller: C-Media Electronics Inc CMI8788 [Oxygen HD Audio] lsof output showing that qemu-kvm is probably using the ALSA backend (new kvm process, I restarted it with the same configuration after the crash documented in gdb output below): kvm 27040 libvirt-qemu memCHR 116,3 4507 /dev/snd/pcmC0D0p Hope that helps finding the bug! Bug#684920: tried to just do NAT, blocks protocol 41
I think the ipv6-over-ipv4-plugin that comes with my firewall should probably implement the behaviour you want. Since you're using 1.9.2k, I'm not 100% sure this functionality/plugin was already available at the time. Please check out the latest version (2.0+) on my website to verify, if still doesn't fix your problem, drop a line on the AIF mailing-list... cheers, Arno On 8/14/2012 21:02, Barak A. Pearlmutter wrote: Package: arno-iptables-firewall Version: 1.9.2.k-4 With the ipmasq package gone the way of the dodo, I needed NAT functionality on a computer w/ a first-class IPv4 address to run an iodine server on that host. That host already had IPv6 connectivity using the auto6to4 package (in experimental) which sets up a standard 6to4 tunnel to the standard IPv4 anycast address, which uses IPv4 protocol 41 packets. (Note, *protocol* 41, not port 41.) Installing arno-iptables-firewall and configuring it for NAT functionality and *nothing else* blocked the IPv4 protocol 41 packets and thus killed the 6to4 tunnel. When I tried the miredo package instead, that was also broken, for similar reasons. It would be nice if arno-iptables-firewall had a NAT and no blocking option, so it could be used as a plug-in replacement for ipmasq, and would be guaranteed not to mess up IPv6 connectivity via IPv4 tunnels. Or at least, if there were documentation. (Of course, this was on a stable machine running an old version. If this is fixed in more recent versions --- it doesn't seem to be judging from just changelog entries --- my apologies.) --Barak. -- Barak A. Bug#684424: arno-iptables-firewall: Spurious error messages because kmod doesn't print a Module not found error.
Although the actual problem is in kmod, I still think this change is sane enough to stay in AIF, at least for now. -arno On 8/14/2012 16:10, Wojciech Kusiak wrote: On Tue, Aug 14, 2012 at 07:43:18AM +0200, Arno van Amersfoort wrote: Thanks, I also changed it for modprobe_multi(). But you're right: kmod should really show some kind of error when it fails to load a module, although the reasoning behind it, could be that it somehow detects that the module is build-in and therefor silences its error... Wouldn't hurt to report this to the maintainer though. And apparently, usually it does display the very same error message as old modprobe did, so you may want to undo this -e '^$' check you added. There's a bug in the kmod version that causes it to abort silently when /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/modules.alias.bin doesn't exist. Like when you're using a Xen system with monolithic kernel loaded from outside of the VM's disk, which's how this machine is. My fault, obviously, for not checking on a more regular configuration first. I'm just too used to my VPSes, I guess... I owe both you and Debian an apology here, for filing bug against wrong package. It turns out, Russell saw two issues. Upgrading to libgtk-3-0 3.4.2-3 the part of the issue still exists, where highlighting text is done with black color making it unreadable. This did not happen with the bug reported upstream is about. Therefore I am reopening this report again. I too experience the second part of the issue. Upgrading to Evolution 3.4.3 revealed that the fix for #669694 [1] libgtk-3-0: Using non-GNOME window manager some areas in GTK application windows are black is incomplete. With Evolution 3.2.2 everything worked fine after upgrading to libgtk-3-0 3.4.2-3, but now with Evolution 3.4.3 highlighting/selecting text makes it unreadable because black color is used. Additionally, GNOME Terminal seems to have suffered from that issues all along. There is a black background making the black font unreadable. The solution is to change the profile setting to not use the system theme. Please keep in mind, that this does not happen when using GNOME. This seems to set a system theme alleviating this problem. Bug#670307: marked as done (Implicit dependency on xmerl_regexp, breaks s2s)
On Tue, 21 Aug 2012 23:53:39 +0200 Christoph Anton Mitterer cales...@scientia.net wrote: [...] I'm running at sid... but still experience all the problems I describe e.g. here: https://support.process-one.net/browse/EJAB-1565 Uh, sorry but I'm now somewhat lost now. First, we don't have a bug in our BTS about this upstream issue, so definitely uploading of 2.1.10-3 wasn't supposed to fix it (as I did not even know this issue exists). Second, the bug is still open, so upstream's 2.1.11 (which we failed to push into Debian in time before the freeze) wasn't expected to fix it either. Third, the s2s issue has (supposedly) nothing to do with clustered setup: s2s is about different XMPP servers (I mean, controlled by different authorities) speak (XMPP) to each other to allow their users communicate. This (supposedly) has nothing to do with Erlang clustering which is implemented using Erlang's own native RPC mechanism. This includes quite often failing s2s connections. The original bug report [1] mentions obvious (for Erlang-literate people) Erlang-level runtime failure to locate a function, which looked like this: ** Reason for termination = ** {undef,[{regexp,sh_to_awk,[shore],[]}, {ejabberd_s2s_in,match_labels,2, [{file,ejabberd_s2s_in.erl}, {line,834}]}, That undef ... clause means that Erlang failed to locate and load the definition of the regexp:sh_to_awk/1 function (that is, a function named sh_to_awk located in a module named regexp). My fix to this bug was to provide a custom implementation which behaves (almost) identical to the now gone regexp:sh_to_awk/1. Now that I have shed some light onto this issue (I hope), I have the next question: do you observe any crash reports, like the one cited above, in your logs? I'm asking because it's now really clear why do you have s2s issues: is this because my fix doesn't work or because you're having clustering issues? Or may be the reason is something completely different? Two more things. 1) You seem to be affected by that EJAB-1565 issue; if so, please file a bug in the Debian BTS against 2.1.10 with the upstream tag, so we know the issue exists that affects at least one of our users. 2) We have 2.1.11 package ready and could possibly upload it into experimental if you feel like experimenting with it and seeing if it can resolve some of your problems. Bug#685604: linux-image-3.2.23-3-custom02-amd64: Radeon may try to read past end of video bios (memory allocation in acpi driver)
Package: linux-image-3.2.23-3-custom02-amd64 Version: 3.2.0 Severity: important Tags: patch Dear Maintainer, I build a custom debian kernel using config with debug options turned on. That caught in boot a memory read past end of memory allocation. The issue happens in video bios reading code that calls to ACPI to fetch video bios. Memory allocation for returned video bios happens in ACPI driver but radeon failed to check the amount of data returned by ACPI. There is upstream fix for the issue. But it is split to 3 separate commits to fix the relevant code path. I'm currently running the backported patch with 3.2.0-3 commit de47a9cd62771e3e78954d855d2304fbad4c5a44 Author: Dave Airlie airl...@redhat.com Date: Thu Feb 2 15:25:16 2012 + drm/radeon: fix use after free in ATRM bios reading code. If radeon_atrm_get_bios_chunk() read less bytes then were requested, it means that it finished reading bios data. Prior to this patch, condition in radeon_atrm_get_bios() was always equivalent to if (ATRM_BIOS_PAGE = 0), so it was always false, thus radeon_atrm_get_bios() was trying to read past the bios data wasting boot time. On my lenovo ideapad u455 laptop this patch drops bios reading time from ~5.5s to ~1.5s. Thus, could you please put empty files there, so the final configuration will already work? Once wheezy-updates actually launch, they'll overwrite those empty files with actual data. Yes please. Bug#685605: qa.debian.org: Would be great if the PTS could provide RDF descriptions of packages
Package: qa.debian.org Severity: wishlist Hi. There exist a few specification addressing the need of standardization of RDF descriptions for Software Packages, like SPDX [0] or ADMS.SW [1]. I guess it would be great if the PTS could export on the Linked Open Data graph / Semantic Web, descriptions of the Debian packages, using RDF, with the aforementioned standards. This would enable future discovery of links between projects, packages, releases and such by machines exploiting such self descriptive documents. A classical form of such publishing could be achieved through content negociations of URLs of the PTS in order to access RDF+XML or JSON representations instead of HTML ones. At least for consuming / GET access, this would provide an alternative to the SOAP interface. A variant could be to embed RDFa inside the HTML, as previously proposed in #585740 Hope this helps. Bug#685608: linux-image-3.2.0-3-amd64: unable to handle kernel paging request __d_shrink
Package: linux-image-3.2.0-3-amd64 Version: 3.2.0 Severity: important Dear Maintainer, I got following kernel oops when running stock debian kernel linux-image-3.2.0-3-amd64: 3.2.23-1. I have seen oops once before but it is very infrequent making reproducing practically impossible. The oops happened when there was no major disk activity in system except log rotation had kicked in a moment earlier. System is: 64bit Mobile Core i5 Intel Ironlake graphics AMD Radeon 5650 (evergreen) dm-crypt encrypted ext4 and swap paritions in rotating disk. I know that there is reports about memory problems with both of my graphics drivers. I have also seen 3 times complete deadlock which might kernel oops that failed to do modesetting back to console. Or it could be genuine deadlock. But I think it is more likely that oops handling path has some deadlock because many oops handling paths are trying to take locks even tough those locks might be already held before oops. Also suspended radeon doesn't tell hdmi audio or remember that hardware is suspended. That leads to a few tries to access hardware that lead to wait for timeout inside locks. But I haven't noticed any more issues caused by those bugs. But I was actually surprised that oops were stored in syslog after reboot so I decided to report it a bit later. I'm now running debian kernel with kernel memory and lock debugging enabled. Only report that I could find online with anything similar is http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse/2012-03/msg00481.html but that is coming from btrfs. But I'm hoping that if I report this there could be someone else providing more information about this infrequent problem. I don't know why every entry is twice in my syslog. I didn't have time to investigate that. But there was only one oops that is twice in the log. Bug#685613: no password dialog for x509 private key for openVPN
Package: network-manager-kde Version: 1:0.9~svn1141976-1 I tried to configure an openVPN connection using the kde network manager applet. Connection is based upon x509 key, certificate and ca file. I was asked for the Kwallet configuration (which I completed), but there was no password dialog for the x509 key file. Of course the openVPN connection cannot be established. This is fatal. Using Gnome the same keys and certificates work. (Not to mention that gnome gracefully accepts *.p12 files as well.) I also verified keys and certificates using openssl.
