Bug#689191: python-libxml2 (v. 2.9.0) undefined symbol

What I'm doing is building mesa, using 'make'. You can try to import this module by hand, this will have this problem also. So this module is not build correctly. And the above link is one of possible reason. Compiling mesa with libxml2 v.2.9.0 (exp) and libxml2mod.so v.2.8.0 (sid) in /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/ imports the module and builds without error. you fail on building mesa is caused by the python-libxml2 is not build correctly. This seems to point to an error in libxml2mod.so v.2.9.0 (exp). Bug#593134: (unreleased) libprophet-perl: minified JavaScript code

One more point is that, as of the somewhat recent discussion in debian-devel@ (e. g., [1]), the inclusion of “minified” sources in Debian source packages is “discouraged”, if not considered a violation of DFSG. Thus, I guess that, unless such files are dropped (or replaced with “pristine” versions) upstream, repackaging the source package may still be necessary. Bug#689368: Mouse and keyboard freeze on Ivy Bridge platform
Hi, I am encountering random keyboard and mouse freezes which can only be resolved by a hard reset (by pushing the power switch of the computer case). I have this frequent and irritating issue with two differents Ivy Bridge platforms: 1. Processor: Intel Core i5 3450 (IGP HD 2500) Motherboard: MSI Z77A-G43 (with uptodate BIOS) 2. Bug#688842: CPAN modules no longer installed to /usr/local by default
On Wed, Sep 26, 2012 at 09:12:00AM +0300, Niko Tyni wrote: Package: perl Version: 5.14.2-13 Severity: serious Justification: maintainer opinion On Wed, Sep 26, 2012 at 06:46:02AM +1100, Steve (Telsat Broadband) wrote: I believe I've uncovered a small bug relating to the default installation parameters when using CPAN. On my first try using CPAN on the latest Debian testing version (Wheezy), I found that it was installing all the modules I requested into /root/perl instead of in the proper directories. Thanks for reporting this. They are indeed supposed to go in /usr/local rather than /root by default when root is installing modules. When the site dirs don't exist, the CPAN shell interactive configuration states Warning: You do not have write permission for Perl library directories. and proceeds to suggest local::lib for installation, which is not the optimal suggestion for root users. We don't ship the site directories in /usr/local with the perl package, as they used to be created at CPAN install time if necessary, and not having them by default saves (or at least used to save) a bunch of stat() calls on every interpreter startup in the common case. This should've been s/on every interpreter startup/on require time/, see #510895. However, some quick tests indicate the stat() calls are made anyway, and that this was the case for squeeze too. Not sure how much that matters though. Still, creating /usr/local/lib/perl/version from postinst scripts leads to a profileration of empty directories in the common case where CPAN is never used. I'd rather avoid that. Possibly we need to make CPAN::FirstTime try to mkdir those directories when probing. My current thinking is that a minimally invasive fix would be a loop that tests the first existing directory up the tree for writability. This way we can leave the mkdir part (along with umask settings, see debian/patches/debian/writable_site_dirs.diff) for later. Help (and opinions on the right thing to do) is welcome on this. This still applies. -- Niko Tyni nt...@debian.org -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org

This is forbidden by the policy, see http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-files.html#s-config-files 10.7.3: [...] The easy way to achieve this behavior is to make the configuration file a conffile. [...] This implies that the default version will be part of the package distribution, and must not be modified by the maintainer scripts during installation (or at any other time). Note that once a package ships a modified version of that conffile, dpkg will prompt the user for an action how to handle the upgrade of this modified conffile (that was not modified by the user). Further in 10.7.3: [...] must not ask unnecessary questions (particularly during upgrades) [...] If a configuration file is customized by a maintainer script after having asked some debconf questions, it may not be marked as a conffile. Instead a template could be installed in /usr/share and used by the postinst script to fill in the custom values and create (or update) the configuration file (preserving any user modifications!). In that case I've had to take some time to finish working out another problem (that requires simultaneous changes to emacs23/24 in both wheezy and sid) -- it's an issue with the emacs metapackage binary that involves the creation of a new gcc-defaults-style source package. At this point, I think I've finished discussing that with the release team, but haven't had time since then (until today) to finish the work. I expect to have uploads for both before Monday. Hopefully someone will have time to release the stable-security update soon. How does that work? I have the packages ready to go, but was just waiting for approval to upload -- or does the security team handle building stable packages? Hi Rob, Sorry the late response. I'm very short of time the last months and apparently noone else chimed in on this thread. Please upload your build to security-master (it needs to be build with -sa, since emacs23 is new in the stable-security suite (otherwise the security buildd network will trigger strange errors) As for the other security issues (untrusted search path in CEDET): I had a look at the Ubuntu security update for Emacs, which the released a few days ago; they also ignored the CEDET issue since they couldn't create a backport for the releases based on releases older than 23.3. Also, since the vulnerability is rather far-fetched we can ignore it for Squeeze IMHO. Bug#549691: lvm2: lvremove fails to remove open logical volume which is not opened
Hi, I have the same problem. lvremove fails to remove snapshot LVs in many cases (but not 100% of the time). As a workaround, I am currently using the dmsetup remove trick. What can we do to fix this problem? Here are the software versions I’m using: lvm2 2.02.95-4 udev 175-3.1 dmsetup2:1.02.74-4 libdevmapper1.02.1 2:1.02.74-4 systemd44-4 linux-image-3.5.0 3.5.0-10.00.Custom (with Debian config) The machine is an x86_64 AMD Athlon II X2 250. I don’t have udisks installed, so I don’t have a file called /lib/udev/rules.d/80-udisks.rules either. The suggested solution from the RedHat bugzilla therefore is not applicable in my case. To give a bit more information about how I reproduce this issue: lvcreate -n snap_web -L 1G -s plana/domu-web kpartx -a /dev/mapper/plana-snap_web mount /dev/mapper/plana-snap_web1 /mnt/snap_web # Run backup umount /mnt/snap_web kpartx -d /dev/mapper/plana-snap_web lvremove -f plana/snap_web I have also tried using maximum verbosity and stracing lvremove, but I don’t understand enough of how lvremove should work to make any sense out of it (even when comparing the working and non-working strace output). Its metaphor for the computer is as a human-like conversation-partner, and as each question/response is completed it is summarised onto one line, and remains on screen, so that the history of the session gradually accumulates on the screen and is available for review, or for cut/paste. Bug#689293: dia menu entry should use /usr/bin/dia not /usr/bin/dia-normal
Hi! Thanks you for your report! On 01/10/12 10:30, Andre Naujoks wrote: The installation of dia should add a menu entry to start dia with the link in /usr/bin/dia, so the choice of the alternatives system is taken into account. Currently /usr/bin/dia-normal is used, which bypasses the alternatives system. Interesting question. Currently, dia just installs menu files for dia(-normal) and dia-gnome each, which will both appear in the menu, if available. Now I wonder if menu entries should follow alternative system choices or not. Is there a policy about that or some common practice in other packages? Hi Marc, On Wed, Oct 03, 2012 at 12:50:50AM +0200, Marc Dequènes (duck) wrote: Coin, On 2012-10-02 12:53, Ricardo Mones wrote: It's clear it doesn't work as you expect, but that doesn't make it unsuitable for everybody else, as you suggest. In fact seems it helped you to deal succesfully with a tnef attachment (again, not as you wished, but somehow), so, while your feedback is appreciated and this will be forwarded upstream, this kind of conclusion is pretty absurd to me. Working in computer science i was able to deal with this plugin, but i don't think a non-geek person would be able to use it at all. Debian is a universal OS and we should work for most users, and they would surely be lost when they don't see any proper attached mail. It is not trivial to guess which software to use to open an application/octet-stream and most people would just be disappointed. No user has ever complained such way, and I don't think you're the only user of this package (http://qa.debian.org/popcon-graph.php?packages=claws-mail-tnef-parser), so I still think the problem is what you were expecting, not the software itself. Which, as said, has a lot of room for improvement, of course. Universal means for all, not for most. That includes geeks, childs, 90 year old grandmas and whatnot. And not all software have to work for all of them as every one of them expect. That's not only absurd but impossible. I, as a DD, consider this plugin of insufficient quality for normal/non-geek people, and i consider it a bug and not a wish because the only goal of this plugin/package is defeated for the intended audience of both Debian and the users of claws-mail (which is not an obscure adminsys or dev tool). The goal of this plugin is to parse tnef attachments, and the intended audience are claws-mail users which have to deal with them. Normality is a not a good concept to mix here. That it has required you more effort to do it than the one you were expecting doesn't mean this is happening to the rest of users. So, are these users not normal? Claws Mail has never been a mailer for the masses, and from what I see on the upstream mailing list, the normal user can be a lot more geeky than you or me. Maybe we should remove also Claws Mail from Debian because most of people won't be able to use it. And while at it remove also mutt, doesn't even have a wizard to configure my account on first run, dow does that people expect my father to use it? See what happens when you only want software for normal people? :-P You downgraded this br, so be it. Please note i fully disagree. Nothing personal. Yep, I've already guessed that :) And, while I have your attention, I think the manpage could be improved to detail usage and what's expected from this plugin. Since I don't use it, would you like to provide a couple of paragraphs to add to the usage section of the manpage? thanks in advance, -- Ricardo Mones ~ The world will end in 5 minutes. After updating NVIDIA driver from http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux-display-ia32-304.51-driver.html to NVIDIA-Linux-x86-304.51.run like Przemysław Pawełczyk says here http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=682308 ..the issue should be resolved with the driver 304.30. Copy-pasting relevant part of debian changelog.. I had older driver than 304.30. First I upgraded librairo2 and then NVIDIA driver. Before NVIDIA driver fix update I solved problem by sticking in older version of libcairo2: cat /etc/apt/preferences Package: libcairo2 Pin: release a=wheezy, version 1.10.2-7 Pin-Priority: 500 Package: libgtk2.0-cil Pin: release a=wheezy, version 2.12.10-3 Pin-Priority: 500 Package: libglib2.0-cil Pin: release a=wheezy, version 2.12.10-3 Pin-Priority: 500 No problem anymore after that driver update and libcairo2 is now version 1.12.2-2. Chromium and Google Chrome work perfectly with dozens of tabs open simultaneously. Bug#689508: dpkg: taking over a conffile via Breaks/Replaces leaves the entry in the Conffiles: entry in the status file of the old package
Package: dpkg Version: 1.16.8 Severity: important Hi, moving a conffile from old-pkg to new-pkg with Package: old-pkg Depends: new-pkg (= X) Package: new-pkg Breaks: old-pkg ( X) Replaces: old-pkg ( X) seems to work, also if the conffile gets replaced by an updated version on the way, but it leaves an old md5sum entry in the Conffiles entry of old-pkg in the status file. This causes subsequent debsums runs to report modified files (for a package which no longer owns the file). Bug#509952: fetchmail: Using idle option only checks the first mailbox.
The wording is confusing as it suggests fetchmail is not able to idle on multiple folders. It is not actually clearly written that this also implies that it does not support running idle on multiple accounts. In case user does not want to change the config file, fetchmail just has to be started as many times as there is of accounts with a different --pidfile for each instances. It fills bad but it is perfectly understandable once user knows that fetchmail isn't threaded. -- Gilles Dartiguelongue gilles.dartiguelon...@esiee.org -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#682891: under KDE with iceweasel as default browser, dia files are opened with iceweasel (from Dolphin)
Hi, thank you for your report! On 26/07/12 20:30, Landry MINOZA wrote: --- Please enter the report below this line. --- I'm using KDE 4.8.4 from unstable. I can reproduce this. However, only in KDE (not in GNOME), and only with Iceweasel as default browser. I guess this issue should be reassigned to kde? Bug#689470: fai-server: customised fai.conf does not get installed into the nfsroot
make-fai-nfsroot from 3.4 would copy it (and other stuff in /etc/fai) into the nfsroot. fai-make-nfsroot does not. This change in 4.0 was done by intention. Therefore, it's not a bug at all IMO. I will first set down the severity to normal. Most things you define in fai.conf can also be defined in the config space in class/*.var files. Therefore this behaviour was removed. I've worked around it by copying fai.conf into the nfsroot in a hook script. Thois is a good workaround. Hooks are designed to give such flexibility. -- regards Thomas -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#689516: linux-image-3.2.0-3-amd64: suspending a Lenovo Thinkpad X131e AMD crashes on resume
Package: src:linux Version: 3.2.23-1 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, Activating suspend/sleep on a Lenovo ThinkPad X131e works but is not resumable - the screen remains blank when resumed, leaving powering off as the only option.
