Bug#743860: apache2: Apache forgets about /cgi-bin on restart
This is probably this upstream bug report which concerns some brokenness with the Define directive: https://issues.apache.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=57328 The config on serverfault shows that you used Define: IfModule mod_alias.c IfModule mod_cgi.c Define ENABLE_USR_LIB_CGI_BIN /IfModule IfModule mod_cgid.c Define ENABLE_USR_LIB_CGI_BIN /IfModule IfDefine ENABLE_USR_LIB_CGI_BIN ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ /usr/lib/cgi-bin/ Directory /usr/lib/cgi-bin AllowOverride None Options +ExecCGI -MultiViews +SymLinksIfOwnerMatch Require all granted /Directory /IfDefine /IfModule The fix seems simple enough. I would like to suggest that at least bcache.ko be included in the installer image, so that this annoying charade can be avoided. Will it be useful at all since bcache-tools is not available? Yes, since all you need to get a preexisting bcache volume up and running is: modprobe bcache echo /dev/sdb /sys/fs/bcache/register echo /dev/sdc /sys/fs/bcache/register Ok, it looks nice enough indeed. The module is not so small (354K here), so I guess this should be shipped in a separate udeb to avoid filling initrds. This udeb would then be available among others in the expert-mode d-i component list. Perhaps it could be auto-loaded at partman stage, but at least making it available would be way more convenient than fetching it by hand. Ben, Bastian, do you think it could be added for Jessie? Bug#775689: Do NOT use unetbootin for Debian CD images
On Sun, Jan 18, 2015 at 07:40:11PM +0100, László Böszörményi (GCS) wrote: Control: tag -1 moreinfo Hi Steve, Hi! USB-bootable installer images, but these days seems responsible for lots of user problems and difficult-to-resolve bug reports. Using it for Debian CD images creates USB images that do not work correctly. It's not even needed any more - we've been making working iso-hybrid images for years now. Can you give me pointers where those bugreports exist? Do you have first hand experience that it's not working correctly? Admittedly most of the reports are not in the BTS, they're mails from people struggling to get things to work, or reporting odd behaviour. A quick Google search on site:lists.debian.org points to the following threads, for starters: * https://lists.debian.org/debian-live/2014/08/msg00052.html * https://lists.debian.org/debian-edu/2011/06/msg00104.html * https://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2014/04/msg01259.html * https://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2014/06/msg01064.html * https://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2014/02/msg01185.html In particular, as I've been developing and improving our UEFI boot support for Wheezy and Jessie, I've had a fair number of people report problems to me directly when trying to use my test images, that went away when unetbootin was taken our of the equation. This has wasted hours of back-and-forth debug discussions in some cases. I don't see any support for UEFI in unetbootin, and other things on the net like * http://askubuntu.com/questions/374931/install-ubuntu-in-uefi-mode-unable-to-boot-from-usb * https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/USB_flash_installation_media#Using_UNetbootin * http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2130039 back that up. This is a major issue on newer machines. Also please note it's not a Debian specific tool. But it may exists in Fedora as well for example. Those users may install a Debian boot to their USB sticks. Adding a warning for our users won't warn other users using UNetbootin. I know that, but a warning for Debian users would help too. I'm also tempted to look into how to detect unetbootin media within d-i so that we can potentially flash up a warning to the user. I *know* it may be a useful tool for some folks (and it used to be very helpful/necessary for USB stuff on older releases), but it's becoming a major PITA. -- Steve McIntyre, Cambridge, UK.st...@einval.com C++ ate my sanity -- Jon Rabone -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#775645: iceweasel: multiple breakages in FF after upgraded to 35, when taking the old prefs.js)

One of the upstream authors from Tab Mix Plus found out[0], that the reason for all these issues is that FF35 changes the value of dom.indexeddb.enabled to false. Interestingly, FF claims, that this value would have been user set (but I've never set it to false). Setting it back to true and all the add-ons as well as the broken FF core functionalities (i.e. auto-fill for username/password) works again. The default for dom.indexeddb.enabled is and always has been true, since the pref was added in version 4.0b7. What has changed is that Firefox UI code uses indexeddb, so if you disabled it before, it didn't affect the UI, but now it does. Note that there are other ways for a pref to end up user set besides being user set. They can end up in that state if an addon flips the pref. In any case, this is the result of a user action of some sort. Mike -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#775730: iceweasel: unhandled symlink to directory conversion: /usr/lib/iceweasel/defaults
On Mon, Jan 19, 2015 at 12:36:54PM +0100, Andreas Beckmann wrote: Package: iceweasel Version: 31.4.0esr-1 Severity: serious User: debian...@lists.debian.org Usertags: piuparts Hi, an upgrade test with piuparts revealed that your package installs files over existing symlinks and possibly overwrites files owned by other packages. This usually means an old version of the package shipped a symlink but that was later replaced by a real (and non-empty) directory. This kind of overwriting another package's files cannot be detected by dpkg. This was observed on the following upgrade paths: squeeze - wheezy - jessie For /usr/share/doc/PACKAGE this may not be problematic as long as both packages are installed, ship byte-for-byte identical files and are upgraded in lockstep. But once one of the involved packages gets removed, the other one will lose its documentation files, too, including the copyright file, which is a violation of Policy 12.5: https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-docs.html#s-copyrightfile For other overwritten locations anything interesting may happen. Note that dpkg intentionally does not replace directories with symlinks and vice versa, you need the maintainer scripts to do this. See in particular the end of point 4 in https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-maintainerscripts.html#s-unpackphase It is recommended to use the dpkg-maintscript-helper commands 'dir_to_symlink' and 'symlink_to_dir' (available since dpkg 1.17.14) to perform the conversion, ideally using d/$PACKAGE.mainstscript. Do not forget to add 'Pre-Depends: ${misc:Pre-Depends}' in d/control. See dpkg-maintscript-helper(1) and dh_installdeb(1) for details. From the attached log (usually somewhere in the middle...): 6m28.1s INFO: dirname part contains a symlink: /usr/lib/iceweasel/defaults/pref (iceweasel) != /usr/share/iceweasel/defaults/pref (?) /usr/lib/iceweasel/defaults - ../../share/iceweasel/defaults /usr/lib/iceweasel/defaults/pref/channel-prefs.js (iceweasel) != /usr/share/iceweasel/defaults/pref/channel-prefs.js (?) /usr/lib/iceweasel/defaults - ../../share/iceweasel/defaults What piuparts fails to see is that /usr/share/iceweasel/defaults/pref belonged to iceweasel. Is it still a serious bug in that case? Sure, it would be good to fix it, the question is whether it is RC or not. Changing volume and toggling mute have no effect. mplayer -ao alsa still works, as does padsp mplayer -ao oss. paplay works as well, as do other applications using pulseaudio. I tried downgrading libav libraries to before the most recent upgrade a couple of days ago, but that doesn't seem to have made a difference. After further investigation, it looks like this is tied to HDMI audio. I hooked up to an external HDMI monitor, and used the GNOME sound control panel to switch audio output to HDMI, then played a few movies. Afterward, I disconnected from that monitor, but I didn't have any sound from the default pulse audio output device; mplayer -ao alsa worked. Just now, I connected to another external monitor, and found that the default pulse output worked, without even switching over to it. I manually switched back to speakers, and now the default sound output works again, even after disconnecting. It looks like somehow Pulse got into a state where it thought it was sending sound to HDMI. *However*, that state somehow only affected mplayer, not totem, paplay, or the alsa output device. There is the init provider, which implements SysV init semantics, systemd upstart which implement systemd and upstart semantics respectively, etc. The default provider on each system is assigned using facter rules, apparently relying on operatingsystem and osfamily facts. On Debian systems (i.e. on $::operatingsystem == debian), the default provider is debian; this is a separate provider that inherits the init provider but overrides a few methods to add invoke-rc.d support. The systemd provider, on the other hand, is default only for osfamily archlinux and for osfamily redhat operatingsystemmajrelease 7. This is obviously broken behavior -- puppet shouldn't make assumptions about the init system a system runs purely from its OS version. That is mostly tracked upstream with PUP-2023[1]. This is especially broken for jessie default installs, which are systemd now. Service definitions -probably amongst the most used ones- are assuming init.d semantics, unless provider = systemd is supplied as an argument. The only reason puppet is not completely broken on jessie is that most packages still ship an init.d script alongside a system service file and LSB init-functions make sure those init.d scripts call systemctl instead. However, this means that Service (without an explicit provider) is broken for at least those two use cases: - enable = false/true doesn't work for packages that ship a systemd unit file, - Service doesn't work at all with user-supplied systemd units or for (custom, mostly) packages that do not ship init.d scripts. This is borderline important serious in my mind, but it is a regression for Wheezy and it should probably be fixed in time for jessie, so I'm setting this to an RC severity. This could be potentially worked around by setting systemd as the default provider for kernel == Linux operatingsystem == Debian operatingsystemmajrelease = 8. This would be a hack, of course, as jessie optionally supports booting with SysV as well so a more dynamic/runtime check will be a better but more complicated fix. Bug#767893: systemd cannot mount zfs filesystems from fstab
Dear Maintainer, I am also trying to mount zfs datasets through fstab on Debian Jessie (in VirtualBox). It appear that mounting /usr through fstab results in systemd and systemd-remount-fs errors. It seem that the current bug report is related to my issue, so I am posting my information here. Can you kindly look into this matter. If I need to open a new bug report let me know. I would also appreciate it if you can advise me on whether I can safely ignore this error and if there is a possible systemd fix in the works. Thanks in advance. I am booting through UEFI on GTP partitioned disks Jessie installer build: 20141222-00:04 systemd version: 215-8 zfs on Linux version: 0.6.3 I have found that / and /home can be mounted through zfs mount or through fstab without errors (/var/log/daemon.log): ... zfs-mount[1150]: Importing ZFS pools. ... zfs-mount[1150]: Mounting ZFS filessystems not yet mounted. ... zfs-mount[1150]: Mounting volumes registered in fstab. Even though the /var is not mounted properly, the /var directory will appear on boot up but is missing a lot of files. This is somewhat understandable with zfs currently refusing to mount over non-empty directories, which should hopefully be fixed in version 0.6.4 through the overlay feature. https://github.com/zfsonlinux/zfs/issues/1827 Mounting /var through fstab yields: ... systemd[1]: var.mount: Directory /var to mount over is not empty, mounting anyway. ... zfs-mount[1150]: Importing ZFS pools. ... zfs-mount[1150]: Mounting ZFS filessystems not yet mounted. ... zfs-mount[1150]: Mounting volumes registered in fstab. On boot up the /var directory appear to be mounted correctly with all its files present. /boot acts the same as /var. /usr acts a little differently. Changelog follows: 1.3.10 (January 5, 2015) This version adds a healthy helping of new features and fixes a critical MPEG-4--related bug. There are more lyrics sources, there new plugins for managing permissions and integrating with Plex, and the importer has a new --pretend flag that shows which music would be imported. One backwards-compatibility note: the :doc:`/plugins/lyrics` now requires the requests library. If you use this plugin, you will need to install the library by typing pip install requests or the equivalent for your OS. Also, as an advance warning, this will be one of the last releases to support Python 2.6. If you have a system that cannot run Python 2.7, please consider upgrading soon. The new features are: A new :doc:`/plugins/permissions` makes it easy to fix permissions on music files as they are imported. Thanks to :user:`xsteadfastx`. :bug:`1098` A new :doc:`/plugins/plexupdate` lets you notify a Plex server when the database changes. Thanks again to xsteadfastx. :bug:`1120` The :ref:`import-cmd` command now has a --pretend flag that lists the files that will be imported. Thanks to :user:`mried`. :bug:`1162` :doc:`/plugins/lyrics`: Add Musixmatch source and introduce a new sources config option that lets you choose exactly where to look for lyrics and in which order. :doc:`/plugins/lyrics`: Add Brazilian and Spanish sources to Google custom search engine. Add a warning when importing a directory that contains no music. :bug:`1116` :bug:`1127` :doc:`/plugins/zero`: Can now remove embedded images. :bug:`1129` :bug:`1100` The :ref:`config-cmd` command can now be used to edit the configuration even when it has syntax errors. :bug:`1123` :bug:`1128` :doc:`/plugins/lyrics`: Added a new force config option. :bug:`1150` As usual, there are loads of little fixes and improvements: Fix a new crash with the latest version of Mutagen (1.26). :doc:`/plugins/lyrics`: Avoid fetching truncated lyrics from the Google backed by merging text blocks separated by empty div tags before scraping. We now print a better error message when the database file is corrupted. :doc:`/plugins/discogs`: Only prompt for authentication when running the :ref:`import-cmd` command. :bug:`1123` When deleting fields with the :ref:`modify-cmd` command, do not crash when the field cannot be removed (i.e., when it does not exist, when it is a built-in field, or when it is a computed field). :bug:`1124` The deprecated echonest_tempo plugin has been removed. Please use the :doc:`/plugins/echonest` instead. :doc:`/plugins/echonest`: Fingerprint-based lookup has been removed in accordance with API changes. :bug:`1121` :doc:`/plugins/echonest`: Avoid a crash when the song has no duration information. :bug:`896` :doc:`/plugins/lyrics`: Avoid a crash when retrieving non-ASCII lyrics from the Google backend. :bug:`1135` :bug:`1136` :doc:`/plugins/smartplaylist`: Sort specifiers are now respected in queries. Thanks to :user:`djl`. :bug:`1138` :bug:`1137` :doc:`/plugins/ftintitle` and :doc:`/plugins/lyrics`: Featuring artists can now be detected when they use the Spanish word con. :bug:`1060` :bug:`1143` :doc:`/plugins/mbcollection`: Fix an HTTP 400 error caused by a change in the MusicBrainz API. :bug:`1152` The % and _ characters in path queries do not invoke their special SQL meaning anymore. :bug:`1146` :doc:`/plugins/convert`: Command-line argument construction now works on Windows. Thanks to :user:`mluds`. :bug:`1026` :bug:`1157` :bug:`1158` :doc:`/plugins/embedart`: Fix an erroneous missing-art error on Windows. Thanks to :user:`mluds`. :bug:`1163` :doc:`/plugins/importadded`: Now works with in-place and symlinked imports. :bug:`1170` :doc:`/plugins/ftintitle`: The plugin is now quiet when it runs as part of the import process. Thanks to :user:`Freso`. :bug:`1176` :bug:`1172` :doc:`/plugins/ftintitle`: Fix weird behavior when the same artist appears twice in the artist string. Thanks to Marc Addeo. :bug:`1179` :bug:`1181` :doc:`/plugins/lastgenre`: Match songs more robustly when they contain dashes. Thanks to :user:`djl`. :bug:`1156` The :ref:`config-cmd` command can now use $EDITOR variables with arguments. 1.3.9 (November 17, 2014) This release adds two new standard plugins to beets: one for synchronizing Last.fm listening data and one for integrating with Linux desktops. And at long last, imports can now create symbolic links to music files instead of copying or moving them. We also gained the ability to search for album art on the iTunes Store and a new way to compute ReplayGain levels. The major new features are: A new :doc:`/plugins/lastimport` lets you download

Bug#775718: installation-guide: Appendix B.4: Several security flaws
Source: installation-guide Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, in appendix B.4 (http://d-i.debian.org/manual/en.i386/apbs04.html) of the installation guide the user is advised to generate an encrypted password using the command printf r00tme | mkpasswd -s -m md5 This is severely flawed in two ways: 1. It leaves the password in the shells history file as clear text. 2. It still uses MD5 instead of SHA512. Better use a simple mkpasswd -m sha-512 It's also not clear that the user needs to install the whois package to get the mkpasswd command. Bye... Bug#760916: brltty interferes with getty autostart
[quoted lines by Samuel Thibault on 2014/12/29 at 18:30 +0100] We could open it on demand rather than immediately? On which demand? Brltty could delay opening the tty until the user needs to inject a character. This could be by typing on the braille device, by requesting cursor routing, etc. The user probably wouldn't do any of that until the login prompt appears. Whatever the timing, there is a risk that systemd-logind gets slow for some reason, and not manage to start getty before brltty opening it. Perhaps, but the user is unlikely to do much before seeing the login prompt. One way could be for brltty to quickly check from /dev/tty1 with VT_GETSTATE whether some process is actually running on the new VT, before opening /dev/tty0. That will always succeed in normal operation, it will fail when systemd-logind hasn't started getty on the VT yet, thus preventing brltty from opening it. But isn't there still the risk that brltty opening tty1 for this purpose may prevent systemd-login from starting getty on tty1? Another scenario to consider is people who could be emitting data to some VT through e.g. a cronjob. An additional check that brltty could do after VT_GETSTATE would be checking whether /dev/vcsa is a blank screen. In that case, there is indeed really nothing to do with the VT. It could be that such an appliation simply hasn't written any data to the vt yet. In other words, I believe that even a blank screen is significant to the user in such a scenario, and, therefore, he must still be able to read it. Is there no way for brltty to open a tty secretly? -- Dave Mielke | 2213 Fox Crescent | The Bible is the very Word of God. Bug#775797: bugs.debian.org: BTS doesn't know about BPO versions; breaks apt-listbugs
Package: bugs.debian.org Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, As you know, bugs.debian.org doesn't eat the backport changelogs, so it has no idea about what bugs might be present in any given BPO version of a package. Even when those bugs are merely inherited from the backported version of the package. Consequently, apt-listbugs will, at best, be able to find out about bugs in backports if they were reported as found in that exact backport version of the package -- which, if the reporter followed the backports documentation, wouldn't even exist. It would be nice if you could process those changelogs, even if only for apt-listbugs' benefit. Lintian uses file(1) to check whether a binary is stripped or not, and it says something like this: ELF 32-bit LSB shared object, Intel 80386, version 1 (GNU/Linux), dynamically linked, BuildID[sha1]=2a7ceaa9fb01ea2953251d707d9251bc3cfd03da, not stripped, too many notes (256) And this is what Lintian looks for in checks/binaries.pm: if ($fileinfo =~ m,not stripped\s*$,o) { The regexp will have to be adjusted to allow for a comma after stripped. This should do the trick: if ($fileinfo =~ m,\bnot stripped\b,o) { That said, at least for the package in the archive, openjdk-8-dbg triggers also debug-file-with-no-debug-symbols, which doesn't rely on file(1) output, so something else might be broken too. -- Jakub Wilk -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#727211: libsane: Failed to start scanner: Invalid argument when using a genesys supported scanner
Hello Jörg, Firstly, sorry if I am not replying correctly to this Debian bug report but I have not much experience with this. On https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=727211 you asked whether the bug still exists in version 1.0.25+git20150102-1. I can confirm the bug seems to be fixed. I have a CanoScan Lide 110 and an Intel NUC with Intel USB3 ports. Linux kernel is version 3.16.7-ckt2-1~bpo70+1 Running Wheezy, I could not build a clean package. Instead I downloaded the source package and did an ugly make make install. That seems to work as the scanner does not stops working after multiple scans. One small issue: to me it feels that initiating the scan takes longer than in version 1.0.24, but I may be wrong about that. PS: how can I create a clean Debian package of 1.0.25+git20150102-1 for Wheezy? Obviously, I want to do make uninstall and replace this installation by a clean package. I would be very grateful for your help! -- Mvg, Sander Devrieze.

I got a quick look at the build log, it seems zookeeper uses Java 6+ methods and some internal com.sun.* classes, I don't think it will ever work with GCJ. Bug#740435: wheezy-pu: package arandr/0.1.7.1-1
hello adam, thanks for your ping -- i've missed the original reply. That sounds like it would probably be fine, but a defdiff of the proposed package would be appreciated for confirmation. In the context of package updates, when we refer to a debdiff we usually mean one of the _source_ packages, not the resulting binar(y|ies), to indicate the actual changes to the uploaded package which result from the rebuild. The version number would need to be 0.1.7.1-1~deb7u1; otherwise it would be higher than the version in testing/unstable. i've attached a debdiff to that respect, and in case you prefer to work off a dsc, uploaded one to [1]. as this does not differ from the originally suggested 0.1.7.1-1 upload but by the version number, the old description detailling the debdiff still holds (ie. python delta is almost minimal, then there are translations, the added menu file and administrative chanes like README, chanelog etc.) best regards chrysn [1] http://archive.amsuess.com/pool/main/a/arandr/arandr_0.1.7.1-1~deb7u1.dsc diff -Nru arandr-0.1.6/ChangeLog arandr-0.1.7.1/ChangeLog --- arandr-0.1.6/ChangeLog 2012-06-02 15:55:36.0 +0200 +++ arandr-0.1.7.1/ChangeLog2013-03-04 18:22:25.0 +0100 @@ -1,3 +1,134 @@ +commit 846451d14cfde701277d6ec0d9ebce0600dcbab1 +Author: chrysn chr...@fsfe.org +Date: Mon Mar 4 18:15:55 2013 +0100 + +ready for release 0.1.7.1 + +commit 08e7739ec5b96dabcb055704bbf79954c83329d7 +Merge: f7f44c7 e10ca80 +Author: chrysn chr...@fsfe.org +Date: Mon Mar 4 18:12:38 2013 +0100 + +some fixes for website/readme + +commit f7f44c735321e6d09d452824eaaaf492dcf160b5 +Author: chrysn chr...@fsfe.org +Date: Mon Mar 4 17:57:07 2013 +0100 + +setup.py: be installable even without locales + +the install_data step previously failed in absence of translations. the +build/locale directory is now built by build_trans unconditionally, +making everything work even without present translations. + +the problem came up in gentoo, where translation files are deleted +selectively to only install what the user wants. + +commit 2fa045379e3e9652701861a491a46806fcee52e1 +Author: chrysn chr...@fsfe.org +Date: Mon Mar 4 17:31:42 2013 +0100 + +fix unassigned variable error + +manifests in AttributeError: 'Size' object has no attribute '_size' +when different modes with the same name have different screen sizes. + +commit 8535870c4cda27e4d23dd4f0802006fb6ba7ef28 +Author: chrysn chr...@fsfe.org +Date: Fri Mar 1 13:47:14 2013 +0100 + +disable the output submenu instead of the checkbox + +result of feedback from the OpenSUSE package maintainer Stefan Seyfried. +this makes it easier for graphics cards with many outputs to see which +one was just plugged in and can be activated. + +commit 74e5fba2b2f2b7f303699ca2c20b7b1d9c9a230b +Author: chrysn chr...@fsfe.org +Date: Thu Feb 28 19:12:46 2013 +0100 + +ready for release 0.1.7 + +commit 615607eb6796345d946e0fae8fdaf8680758b95e +Author: chrysn chr...@fsfe.org +Date: Thu Feb 28 18:27:48 2013 +0100 + +bugfix for uninitialized variable + +was tricky to find because it occurs only if the first output is +inactive. + +thanks to Sid Karuaratne for pointing finding it. + +commit 0fe7a5d650d0a3ed2116acdbc87bfcd7e60d5fc1 +Author: chrysn chr...@fsfe.org +Date: Thu Feb 28 17:26:08 2013 +0100 + +changed attribution of ukrainian translation + +as requested by rax himself + +commit 3d4646344cfe8dbac6bc95c6cf934cd2e4dc59c4 +Merge: 98c5117 09928da +Author: chrysn chr...@fsfe.org +Date: Thu Feb 28 11:42:51 2013 +0100 + +update README / website + +* acknowledge weblate as the new translation tool +* move cglita branch to similar programs (as it's partially merged to fix the + bug) + +commit 98c5117b09e72c8e656cd27c0190a8ad2dd3ba46 +Author: chrysn chr...@fsfe.org +Date: Thu Feb 28 11:26:38 2013 +0100 + +bugfix: remove duplicate modes + +the minimal cglita merge intoduced a bug where named screen modes with +more than one actual modes are shown more than once; this patch detects +and drops duplicates. + +commit fd3dc6fd3f714b2571707c2bf108bad77498a39b +Author: chrysn chr...@fsfe.org +Date: Thu Feb 28 04:56:23 2013 +0100 + +ignore 'primary' in xrandr output + +since 1.4.0, xrandr indicates which output is currently primary; this +patch ignores that and restores xrandr 1.4.0 compatibility. + +note that the version detection didn't work for the affected users, as +--version also prints the server's xrandr version, which was still 1.3. + +commit dad11f9ced9bc4fdb8632a992bf731ebf1efca40 +Merge: 123355d b5d1446 +Author: chrysn chr...@fsfe.org +Date: Thu Feb 28 04:33:59 2013 +0100 + +merge parts of the cglita branch + +closes the most common arandr issue + +commit 123355d4cc8f1199b233a432c2f770fee5dbc251 +Merge: 2dc9952 467e077 +Author: chrysn chr...@fsfe.org +Date:
Bug#775621: python-biopython: FTBFS in jessie: Tests failures
On Mon, Jan 19, 2015 at 11:40:39AM +0100, Alexandros Stamatakis wrote: Dear All, I am not exactly sure what you need, do you want the Pthreads-version to automatically set the number of threads to 2 if the -T option is not specified? If that's the case I can easily fix this. It would be great if all flavours of raxmlHPC would be able to run without the -T option (by setting a decent default) since wrappers like BioPython (and probably others) do not use -T. This would be a solution that is helpful for all distributions. For our specific case in Debian there would be an alternative solution that the -T option would be simply ignored on machines with no Pthreads support (instead of throwing an error). Please find any solution which makes all binaries compatible regarding the options you are allowed to add to the command line. Bug#775736: network-manager: NetworkManager fills journal with send_rs() cannot send router solicitation: -1
Package: network-manager Version: 0.9.10.0-5 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, * What led up to the situation? I use NetworkManager in an environment where the firewall drops IPv6. * What was the outcome of this action? NetworkManager sends to the system journal the following line every 5 seconds: NetworkManager[PID]: error [rdisc/nm-lndp-rdisc.c:241] send_rs(): (eth0): cannot send router solicitation: -1. * What outcome did you expect instead? I expect this error message to show once if it may be useful, but not to show up every 5 seconds. * Other reports This problem looks very similar to the following Fedora bug reports: - https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1034443 - https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1010540 -- System Information: Debian Release: 8.0 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (900, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 3.16.0-4-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=fr_FR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) Versions of packages network-manager depends on: ii adduser3.113+nmu3 ii dbus 1.8.14-1 ii init-system-helpers1.22 ii isc-dhcp-client4.3.1-5 ii libc6 2.19-13 ii libdbus-1-31.8.14-1 ii libdbus-glib-1-2 0.102-1 ii libgcrypt201.6.2-4+b1 ii libglib2.0-0 2.42.1-1 ii libgnutls-deb0-28 3.3.8-5 ii libgudev-1.0-0 215-9 ii libmm-glib01.4.0-1 ii libndp01.4-2 ii libnewt0.520.52.17-1+b1 ii libnl-3-2003.2.24-2 ii libnl-genl-3-200 3.2.24-2 ii libnl-route-3-200 3.2.24-2 ii libnm-glib40.9.10.0-5 ii libnm-util20.9.10.0-5 ii libpam-systemd 215-9 ii libpolkit-gobject-1-0 0.105-8 ii libreadline6 6.3-8+b3 ii libsoup2.4-1 2.48.0-1 ii libsystemd0215-9 ii libteamdctl0 1.12-1 ii libuuid1 2.25.2-4.1 ii lsb-base 4.1+Debian13+nmu1 ii policykit-10.105-8 ii udev 215-9 ii wpasupplicant 2.3-1 Versions of packages network-manager recommends: ii crda3.13-1 ii dnsmasq-base2.72-2 ii iptables1.4.21-2+b1 ii iputils-arping 3:20121221-5+b2 ii modemmanager1.4.0-1 pn ppp none Versions of packages network-manager suggests: ii avahi-autoipd 0.6.31-4+b2 pn libteam-utils none -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. The three timeout values could be increased if necessary but that hardly seems worth it. It seems to be the same issue as it is with the failing DEP-8 tests on ci.debian.net [1]. I'm unable to reproduce this myself, but taking a closer look to AbstractProcessTest::testStartAfterATimeout(), the test itself is pretty useless: First: The command that is executed actually is this one: # php -r $n = 1000; while ($n--) {echo ''; usleep(1000); } This does not wait ~1s, but produces the following error: PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '=' in Command line code on line 1 Second: Any \Exception is caught in the try{}...catch(), while a RuntimeException should be caught instead. Currently even the Exception potentially thrown with $this-fail('A RuntimeException should have been raised.'); is caught, making a mockery out of the whole tests. Which timeout values are you talking about? You seem to think that the problem is that the test is taking too long. That doesn't seem to be the case to me: the test's purpose is to test stuff related to timeouts in Symfony's Process component. What seems to happen here is that the call to start() causes a call to checkTimeout(), that detects that the process should be timeouted. So it's either a matter of start() taking too long to start the process, or of insufficient timer accuracy. Assuming that Process can start a process in 0.1s might be a bit optimistic. Actually upstream once doubled [2] the timeout to 0.2s, but this got lost later on - most likely due to resolving merge conflicts. I'm currently preparing a fixed version of AbstractProcessTest::testStartAfterATimeout() for upstream. Afterward I will prepare a new upload for Debian, containing the fix. I don't think it's needed to double the process timeout, once the test is working as expected again. Bug#775502: Re[2]: [Pkg-openssl-devel] Bug#775502: openssl: 1.0.1e-2+deb7u14 broke DTLS handshake with Chrome/Firefox
Fri, 16 Jan 2015 18:43:36 +0100 от Kurt Roeckx k...@roeckx.be: There is an upstream bug report about the patch for CVE-2015-0206 breaking it. Are you sure it's the right patch? That's the patch removing which fixed the problem for me. I tried removing the patch for CVE-2015-0206 (0112-A-memory-leak-can-occur-in-dtls1_buffer_record-if-ei.patch) and keeping others but it didn't help - the problem is still present. I didn't try every patch added in u14 indivilually though. The fix for that issue was to use SSL_CTX_set_read_ahead() setting it to 1. Can you check that fixes it for you? That worked, thanks. Adding that function call fixes DTLS handshake with the stock 1.0.1e-2+deb7u14 package. So, should this be considered a bug in libwebrtc or is this an unintended breaking change in openssl?

I wonder if you have reproducible configuration which causes this error. I think this was caused by the fact that I was constantly making incremental back-ups, without making additional full backups. I had about 3022 files in my remote backup directory when this happend, and this bug occurred every time backupninja tried to make an additional incremental backup. In the end I could work around/fix it by modifying my backupninja config to make a full backup from time to time. In my 80.dup file I had this [dest] section: [dest] keep = 10 desturl = scp://bac...@example.com/backup/ The keep setting was actually useless here as it could not remove the old back-ups because newer incremental ones were always based on the old backups. I changed this to: [dest] increments = 10 keep = 30 desturl = scp://bac...@example.com/backup/ So that it would always make a full back-up every 10 days. The first time, it failed again, but all subsequent runs, where successfully. Bug#775740: developers-reference: please clarify the recipients when sending to 123-submitter@b.d.o
Package: developers-reference Version: 3.4.14 Severity: wishlist Hi, in the d-devel thread starting here [1] I learned that 123-submitter@b.d.o is only sent to the bts and the submitter but *not* to the maintainer. This came as a surprise to me after reading section 5.8.2. of devref which currently says: When responding to bugs, make sure that any discussion you have about bugs is sent both to the original submitter of the bug, and to the bug itself (e.g., 1...@bugs.debian.org). If you're writing a new mail and you don't remember the submitter email address, you can use the 123-submit...@bugs.debian.org email to contact the submitter and to record your mail within the bug log (that means you don't need to send a copy of the mail to 1...@bugs.debian.org). So the above paragraph suggests that sending an email to 123@b.d.o and the submitter email is the same as sending it to 123-submitter@b.d.o while in fact the latter will not send the mail to the package maintainer. The last sentence even says that I don't need to send a copy to 123@b.d.o while in fact I should such that the maintainer of the package gets a copy. So this paragraph should either: - clarify that this course of action is only the right one for packages where *I* am the submitter (as in this cases there is no need to also send the email to myself) - or explicitly state to whom email is sent in each case Maybe the paragraph should be completely reformulated like this: When responding to bugs, make sure that any discussion you have about bugs is sent to the original submitter of the bug, the bug itself and (if you are not the maintainer of the package) the maintainer. Sending an email to 1...@bugs.debian.org will send the mail to the maintainer of the package and record your email with the bug log. If you don't remember the submitter email address, you can use 123-submit...@bugs.debian.org to also contact the submitter of the bug. The latter address also records the email with the bug log, so if you are the maintainer of the package in question, it is enough to send the reply to 123-submit...@bugs.debian.org. Otherwise you should include 1...@bugs.debian.org so that you also reach the package maintainer. It remains unclear whether or not they affect libav at all. While I agree that these issues should be investigated in more detail, the lack of instructions how to confirm and reproduce the issue makes working on this bug unreasonably hard. Bug#775114: [libkdeui5] KRecursiveFilterProxyModel: The model was not working properly
control: severity -1 grave thanks This patch should be included as it fixes a critical bug in kdelibs which renders Kontact unable to show user data. The data is actually there, but not visible or accessible to the user, and therefore is often perceived as a data loss issue. The patch itself is small (-11/+5 lines), contained entirely in private code in the affected library, and comes with a unit test to ensure quality. There is a pending upstream review request to include it upstream which has gone unanswered thus far: https://git.reviewboard.kde.org/r/120119/ We are unsure when it will land upstream due to this lack of attention to the request, but the bug it fixes continues to affect users. So despite waiting for upstream response, it is already being packaged in Fedora packages as well as being shipped to large institutional users (at least one of which uses a Debian OS as the desktop client) by downstream companies such as Kolab Systems. By including this well-tested and already deployed patch, Debian can ensure that users relying on Kontact working well (among other KDE applications which use this same functionality) will not need to go elsewhere (e.g. another downstream) for a patched version of the kdelibs package. If akonadi fails with syning it redownloads all messages again and again. i attached the notify-log output from akonadiconsole I have also a debug log file, but i cannot attach it to this mail. It is about 91 MB in size and it took only seconds to get that big. I dont want to put this file on a public mailinglist. akonadiconsole also crashes after a few seconds due to a lot of traffic in the logs * What imap server you use? courier-imap (debian wheezy - backports - i tried backports to get rid of that bug but did not change anything) * Do you use offline imap? Yes! * Do you use filters that touch mails? On which side? I use bogofilter to catch spam on local machine. Sieve-scripts do the sorting on server side. Bug#775544: nftables: init system stop action shouldn't flush rules
reopen 775544 stop On Mon, 2015-01-19 at 10:56 +0100, Arturo Borrero Gonzalez wrote: First, when stopping a service, I expect all effects of the service to disappear. Well but a firewall isn't a service like a daemon like postfix. It's more like the initial-entropy-seeding of urandom on boot... something that needs to be done, but something one typically never wants to stop, and especially not accidentally. The same is true for your nftables service... it's not the firewall itself, which is part of the kernel an which one cannot stop that easily... it is only the loader for the rules, thus a stop action would mean stop loading the rules - well that's already done so it can't be stopped anymore. Flushing, especially when this means the unsafe default of everything accepted, seems to be quite a bad effect for stop. This is the default behaviour of the nftables service. What you are suggesting, applied to other services, is to stop networking but keep interfaces working. No I don't think that this is what I recommend, especially since your service doesn't start anything which is really the firewall... it just loads the configuration for the already running daemon Or stop a daemon but let current client connection to end. ... which would however be also not so uncommon... see e.g. sshd, when you stop it, you already running sessions still live on. I guess it's a case-by-case question,... and one should usually decide based on common sense and so that people don't shoot into their own feet by accident. Flushing the firewall rules is definitely such a pitfall, where people would shoot into their own feet (usually one doesn't want to unload the rules). It's like with ssh,.. just because one stops/restarts sshd, one doesn't want the sessions to die. I'm sorry, but I disagree. For me, stopping a service means that no further effect of the service happens. Well, even if you take it like that, than my point is right (no further rules loading takes place)... and actually your current scripts do just the opposite of what you say you want: Further effect happens, i.e. the rules are once more changed (to an insecure allow-everything value). And equalising the nftables init script/service with the kernel nftables systems.. thus believing the illusion that the script would stop the actual service (i.e. the kernel nftables)... is anyway wrong. You don't stop it you just open up it's configuration to allow everything - which is IMHO actually more the opposite of stop... if you insist on mapping started/stopped to accept/reject packets. Why would anybody to stop the firewall service but keep the ruleset in place? Which is the effect of stopping the firewall then? Again, as said,... you don't stop the firewall it's still in the kernel. The only thing you do is to once again change it's configuration on stop. This is btw also the reason why iptables-persistent doesn't call it's scripts/services iptables... because one would get the false impressions that iptables was stopped/started. Second, this is why the service is not enabled by default. Well a) this may come sooner or later... The admin should manually activate the firewall service. So there is no such behaviour unless you manually do something. ... and b) just because the admin has to enable it manually, there is no reason that we provide a script which easily tricks him into opening up his firewall. For the security issue you mentioned, is as easy as stop firewall the last in the shutdown sequence. Which is however not the case right now, and even if it would be,... then this is just a great source of possible errors... just one tiny misconfiguration (perhaps even in another unit file), and the firewall might be opened up while real services (which depend on it for their security) are still running. Also, you seem to completely forget the restart case. In systemd restart is handled as stop/start. So when people think they would just reload the modified set of rules, then with your current behaviour of flushing the firewall rules on stop, you actually open up a short window in which the system is again completely unsecured. But again, since the service is not enabled by default, you can do whatever you want when activating the service. Everyone can always do what one wants... one can compile nftables manually and write a own unit file for it... But that's not why we have distributions, where we try to provide people to give sane and secure code. Therefore, reopening until discussion on this matter has come to an end. Closes: #671711 Together with making the jessie perl-modules and perl-base Break the wheezy perl, this should ensure that the xfonts-traditional trigger will not run when perl is in a broken state during upgrades. Please see the #774844 bug log for details, and let me know if you have objections or other suggestions. Thanks, Niko, I think you have the correct fix. I was meaning to follow up suggesting a Pre-Depends. I've not looked into the details yet, but just to comment that there's been talk about possibly reverting that fix, because in some error situations it can get apt into an unrecoverable state (#774124). :( Of course reverting that fix brings back all upgrade issues related to trigger processing w/o the required dependencies. Which are probably more, and easier to get into. Yes. (I guess this just calls for both a fixed apt, and a dpkg that workarounds any such situation.) Do we know what change is needed to apt ?
