Bug#775802: cifs-utils: Unsigned NTLMv2 mounting fails
Package: cifs-utils Version: 2:5.5-1 Severity: minor Mounting NTLMv2 shares for which signing is not enabled (e.g. older (including Wheezy) Samba deployments, or older Windows, or Windows with signing turned off for other compatibility reasons) fails with 'Invalid Paramater'. Bug#775689: Do NOT use unetbootin for Debian CD images
Hi! Can you give me pointers where those bugreports exist? Do you have first hand experience that it's not working correctly? I made netboot images onto my USB sticks and they worked. This exchange is sadly pretty common when it comes to unetbootin and we see this frequently in #debian. Whenever we get a user reporting a very odd error from the installer, we ask them how they transferred the image to the USB stick and if they say unetbootin we just recommend they start again because it is well known to cause problems. Two things then always follow: (1) the problem is solved and the installation completes fine (2) a 3rd party will chip in that unetbootin always works just fine for them [sadly often also accompanied by (3) them telling us we don't know what we're talking about]. We have been unable to figure out what differentiates the users for whom unetbootin does not work from the users for whom it does work. The users who have chosen to use unetbootin are almost invariably not the right people to help debug such problems and so the impasse is perpetuated. (While unetbootin can also do other things like have multiple images on the one disk, that's not the user base we are normally seeing.) Off the top of my head the are the sorts of errors we frequently see are catalogued below. I've quickly grabbed some links from upstream's bug tracker that may (or may not!) provide some more details. All of these errors go away when the exact same image is copied onto the exact same USB stick using cp as detailed in the install guide (or dd or cat or win32diskimager or anything else that just copies the image rather than trying to do whatever mangling unetbootin does). * boot error messages: the prepared image is deeply unhappy and you don't even get as far as a boot loader. (The normal symptom reported by the user is why aren't debian iso images bootable?...) https://bugs.launchpad.net/unetbootin/+bug/1198731 * d-i starts but then dies weirdly, seemingly skipping the entire installation https://bugs.launchpad.net/unetbootin/+bug/1348956 * d-i dies very early with No CD was detected: for some reason, the mounted image is not found by the installer and you don't get past the very first part of the installer where it tries to find the d-i components. https://bugs.launchpad.net/unetbootin/+bug/622075 * installing the base system fails: sometimes it can't find the .debs, sometimes it can't figure out how to extract them properly https://bugs.launchpad.net/unetbootin/+bug/1048913 * even once d-i looks to have successfully completed, it often seems to install grub to the wrong device and/or has sufficiently confused grub-install as to get the wrong device.map so that the system isn't bootable https://bugs.launchpad.net/unetbootin/+bug/1034975 Clearly not everyone hits these errors but enough do that it's a pain. The errors seem so unrelated to unetbootin that it's very hard to convince users to try remaking the image -- after all, once the kernel is booted and userspace has started, unetbootin should be irrelevant, right? If only. Also please note it's not a Debian specific tool. But it may exists in Fedora as well for example. Those users may install a Debian boot to their USB sticks. Adding a warning for our users won't warn other users using UNetbootin. Indeed, it would be wonderful if this were actually fixed upstream (or at least documented upstream). In the absence of that, we at least reach a good portion of the user base by noting this in Debian (and its derivatives). cheers Stuart -- Stuart Prescotthttp://www.nanonanonano.net/ stu...@nanonanonano.net Debian Developer http://www.debian.org/ stu...@debian.org GPG fingerprint90E2 D2C1 AD14 6A1B 7EBB 891D BBC1 7EBB 1396 F2F7 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Control: severity -1 wishlist Control: retitle -1 torsocks: please add whitelisting for local ports Control: tags -1 + upstream treaki: i tryed to use torsocks on ssh with x forward enabled (-X) but i failed for an unknown reason. The reason is explained in the error message: treaki@hostname:~$ xterm [Jan 20 00:32:24] WARNING torsocks[31250]: [connect] Connection to a local address are denied since it might be a TCP DNS query to a local DNS server. Rejecting it for safety reasons. For the specific case of SSH forwarding to work, torsocks is missing a way to specify a list of ports that can be declared safe by users (as in “I know this port can not be used to deanonymize me”). These scripts are copied into a test image and are not executed on any machine running LAVA. Any scripts under lava_test_shell need to be ignored for the purpose of the bashism check in Debian. If the test image has issues, that can be fixed in the test image. In addition, the lmp support is not in active use. Not using bash (or a Debian Policy compliant shell interpreter that doesn't provide such an extra feature) as /bin/sh is likely to lead to errors or unexpected behaviours. Please be aware that dash is the default /bin/sh. Not necessarily - these test images are not necessarily Debian or Policy compliant. The default shell in the test image is determined by the LAVA support and the shebang in the files is substituted accordingly. The /bin/sh in the files in the source tree is no indication of the actual shebang line used in the test image. -- Neil Williams = http://www.linux.codehelp.co.uk/ pgpuJu1YPgbSw.pgp Description: OpenPGP digital signature

Bug#770871: ModemManager only starts up if system is PID 1
Severity: serious Justification: GSM modem support will not work out-of-the-box with non-systemd setups Hi, I see a similar issue about ModemManager not coming up by default via network-manager. The reason is simple (after staring at mm and nm from jessie and wheezy for a while): o ModemManager comes with a DBus system-service file o NetworkManager in Debian wheezy triggers that service (org.freedesktop.ModemManager) o NetworkManager in Debian testing does not have that code anymore, it expects from systemd to launch ModemManager = systems without systemd as PID 1 fail to start ModemManager and GSM devices are not available in NetworkManager. Solution IMHO: o Provide an init script in /etc/init.d/ that launches ModemManager on non-systemd machines o other options??? I hope we can get this fixed for jessie. Bug#775818: libwibble: do not use -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 on mips64el
Source: libwibble Version: 1.1-1 Severity: important Hi, Please do not compile libwibble with -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 on mips64el. On most 64-bit platforms, defining _FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 is a noop. Unfortunately due to a historical mistake (probably because mips was one of the first 64-bit platforms), it isn't on mips64. On mips64, defining this will force the use of the 32-bit large file version of struct stat which is slightly incompatible with the normal 64-bit version. This bug causes libbuffy-bindings to FTBFS due to testsuite failures. Thanks, James -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#775183: spamass-milter adds bad Received: header, creating false positive
On 14.01.2015 17:49, Don Armstrong wrote: Can you try switching from confMILTER_MACROS_ENVRCPT to confMILTER_MACROS_ENVFROM ? If that fixes this up, I'll change the recommendation. I imagine that somewhere in the code, sendmail falls back to the date/time it started instead of the current time if it's unable to get a correct date. No luck with that. I had define(`confMILTER_MACROS_CONNECT',`t, b, j, _, {daemon_name}, {if_name}, {if_addr}')dnl define(`confMILTER_MACROS_HELO',`s, {tls_version}, {cipher}, {cipher_bits}, {cert_subject}, {cert_issuer}')dnl define(`confMILTER_MACROS_ENVFROM',`{auth_authen}, b')dnl define(`confMILTER_MACROS_ENVRCPT',`i, j, r, v, Z, _')dnl Still, the date in the Received: headers sometimes is bad (sendmail startup time). But then I also removed the b from confMILTER_MACROS_ENVFROM. This fixes the problem. The date still comes from sendmail, but now it is correct. (Probably because of the b in confMILTER_MACROS_CONNECT). Maybe spamass-milter should always rely on its own system time here that should be the same as the one from sendmail. I suppose. On a side note, please also add recommandation regarding the '{auth_authen}' macro to the documentation. Bug#775814: installation-guide: Advise users against using unetbootin

Bug#775778: open-iscsi: Boot with systemd hangs (ordering of init script w.r.t. remote filesystems)
Hello Christian, On 01/20/2015 01:02 AM, Christian Seiler wrote: Dear Maintainer, tl;dr: systemd + open-iscsi = 90s hang at boot in some cases, and umountiscsi.sh is not called on shutdown. Attached a debdiff that fixes that without being too invasive. Longer explanation: if you have the following configuration: - Jessie - systemd as init - open-iscsi configured to automatically log in to some iSCSI target, iSCSI disk /dev/sdb is then available - /etc/fstab containing an entry like /dev/sdb1 /data ext4 rw,_netdev 0 0 or (when using LVM) /dev/vg_.../lv_... /data ext4 rw,_netdev 0 0 the system boot will hang for 90s because of systemd's default timeout when devices are not available. Actually, from what I know so far, systemd aggressively backgrounds any processes that is taking time. And only processes that depend on it, are put on hold, again in the background. The reason behind this is that open-iscsi contains the following LSB headers: Required-Start:$network $remote_fs Required-Stop: $network $remote_fs sendsigs Here, $network maps to network-online.target in systemd, that's fine, but $remote_fs maps to remote-fs.target in systemd, that is the problem. This is because a) systemd treats file systems that couldn't be mounted as hard failures. and b) systemd's logic of mounting all remote filesystems is to mount all filesystems in /etc/fstab that are marked _netdev (and not makred noauto) Therefore, systemd waits for the iSCSI device to appear for 90s before timing out and proceeding with boot. Only then remote-fs.target is reached and systemd starts the open-iscsi init script. I think you may be missing something here. I believe devices marked _netdev are always backgrounded. At least in sysvinit. And not having them do so in systemd is highly unlikely. That in turn will then make the devices appear. The init script will then call a mount -a -O _netdev and swapon -a -e in it's start() routine, that will then cause the mount points to be activated. So in the end, the boot is kind-of successful in the sense that everything kind of works at the end of boot, with the following two caveats: - there is this needless 90s delay (or whatever other delay the admin has configured) in waiting on the iSCSI targets Have you had luck root causing in why there is the 90 sec delay ? - if I want to use systemd's features to order to order a specific service after remote-fs.target to make sure that the remove file systems I have are mounted, maybe because the service needs the data on them, then this won't work consistently, because the file systems will only be mounted after open-iscsi is started, which will then be in parallel to any services I have ordered after remote-fs.target, for example: - exporting a subdirectory of an iSCSI filesystem via NFS; if nfs-kernel-server gets started too early, this might fail because the directory that is exported doesn't exist If I modify the init script to remove $remote_fs from it's LSB headers, then booting works as expected. However, this causes two problems: 1. I assume that $remote_fs is in there because you want to support NFS-based sepearte /usr. Removing $remote_fs from LSB headers would break such a configuration under sysvinit, since the open-iscsi tools wouldn't be able to be called. However, systemd in Debian currently doesn't really support a separate /usr that's not mounted from initrd anyway. 2. Shutting down is racy. Shutting down is racy because you then have the following constellation: - systemd tracks services' states. And while bug #732793 does not occur anymore because invoke-rc.d strips the .sh from umountiscsi.sh, the call to umountiscsi.sh stop doesn't really do anything, because systemd already thinks it is stopped, since it was never started. - OTOH, systemd will tear down remote filesystems on its own. But because open-iscsi is only ordered after network-online.target then, tearing down the remote filesystesm will be done in parallel (!) to stopping open-iscsi. This has the unfortunate effect that it could be the case that the umount call to the filesystem is made after open-iscsi has been stopped. This will then cause the kernel to hang trying to umount the filesystem. I haven't been able to reproduce this race yet, i.e. I have gotten lucky so far, in that umount was typically faster on my system than stopping open-iscsi - BUT I am really not comfortable with having such a flimsy race in place, especially since umount will sync stuff to the filesystem and stopping open-iscsi too early could easily cause severe data loss. So far for my analysis. How do we proceed from here? - it is quite clear that you probably don't want to change the sysvinit logic now,

Bug#775456: ITP: sankore -- interactive whiteboard interface
On Fri, Jan 16, 2015 at 12:22 AM, Mike Gabriel mike.gabr...@das-netzwerkteam.de wrote: Then there was this openboard fork which became very promising... and vanished soon again, because the employee working on openboard changed his employer (and his working focus with that). Andrea Colangelo (warp10@d.o) did that part of the communication with the openboard upstream dev, but I am not sure if that went to mailing list or if it was just between several interested people in Cc:. Maybe Andrea can give a brief summary on the status. The whole communication has been off-list among me and Claudio Valerio, the guy behind the OpenBoard effort. It looked a really promising project, then Claudio's company and the French government had some disagreement and the work stopped. Even worse, Claudio can't work anymore on that project, although the code is still available on github. [1] [1] https://github.com/OpenEducationFoundation/OpenBoard Just in case something really bad happens, I forked the repo on my github too. A big problem with Sankore is that those non-free fonts are used in many parts of the interface, so some work to swap fonts and use free ones is required. That is something that Claudio may (or may not) have done in openboard, I haven't checked yet. The biggest problem, nevertheless, is that upstream is totally unresponsive and not interested in fixing the legal things, which is a showstopper as of now. Patching sankore to use free fonts shouldn't be difficult, but it's a quite big program and some effort might be required (also, I'm not expert at all in C++, so digging the code to find the relevant bits is not my cup of tea). All that said, I strongly support any effort to bring sankore into archives, that's a great piece of software and we really want it. In my humble opinion, the best course of action is to check that the latest version still has those issues (Mike did a great work reporting detailed info on the other ITP [2]), and in case it still has, we should try to get in touch with upstream again. Some time has passed, so something might have changed. If, as I expect, upstream is still not responsive, we might take the road of patching. Provided enough eyeballs and fingers can work on it, that should be doable. The packaging Mike and Miriam might not be perfect, but it's a great start, surely enough to get at least a working .deb, so once we are done with all the legal crap, the thing should be easy. The change you supplied should appear in the next upload of the Fvwm package. Nice, thanks. Note that according to http://www.fvwm.org/documentation/faq/#6.8 and the comment in source file, X11 does not have native support for mouse buttons other than 1-5. Therefore some complex Fvwm function bindings might not apply to the extended buttons. Yes, I read that. But for common stuff like binding to some functionality, it works well. Bug#763410: bug#763410: [installation-guide] 4.3.1: written directly a USB stick
Control: tag -1 patch Section 4.3.1. Preparing a USB stick using a hybrid CD or DVD image starts with: Debian CD and DVD images can now be written directly a USB stick, which is a very easy way to make a bootable USB stick. A preposition such as on or to is missing between directly and a. can now be written directly to a USB stick would be much better. (patch attached) By the way, my English is not native, but 4.3's introduction looks like it contains a Frenchism to me: You should be able to see to which device the USB stick was mapped by running the command dmesg after inserting it. Shouldn't to which device the USB stick was mapped read which device the USB stick was mapped to? Yes and no. To which ... avoids the stranded preposition (to at the end of the sentence). It's not overly awkward in this sense so in formal documentation the to which form is just fine. It's certainly not conversational English and it's perhaps overly formal for Debian documentation. (Describing it as a Frenchism is almost right -- this sort of construction comes from an 18th century fetish for using Latin grammar in English that was motivated by a combination of romantic nationalism, a desire to formalise and an awareness of Francophone roots.) -- Stuart Prescotthttp://www.nanonanonano.net/ stu...@nanonanonano.net Debian Developer http://www.debian.org/ stu...@debian.org GPG fingerprint90E2 D2C1 AD14 6A1B 7EBB 891D BBC1 7EBB 1396 F2F7From c09b85c24e59ef46710b5562252464db7ae9c1be Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Stuart Prescott stu...@debian.org Date: Tue, 20 Jan 2015 23:02:17 +1100 Subject: [PATCH 1/3] Typo fix in USB section (#763410) Add missing word to sentence. --- manual/en/install-methods/boot-usb-files.xml | 2 +- 1 file changed, 1 insertion(+), 1 deletion(-) diff --git a/manual/en/install-methods/boot-usb-files.xml b/manual/en/install-methods/boot-usb-files.xml index bb344d7..e766cab 100644 --- a/manual/en/install-methods/boot-usb-files.xml +++ b/manual/en/install-methods/boot-usb-files.xml @@ -30,7 +30,7 @@ information on for example a hard disk could be lost. titlePreparing a USB stick using a hybrid CD or DVD image/title para -Debian CD and DVD images can now be written directly a USB stick, +Debian CD and DVD images can now be written directly to a USB stick, which is a very easy way to make a bootable USB stick. Bug#775821: www.debian.org: [devel/debian-installer] mention USB in netinst description
Package: www.debian.org Severity: normal Hi! A perpetual problem in #debian is convincing people that they want to use the netinst on their USB stick (following §4.3.1 of the installation guide) and not the hd-media approach (§4.3.2). Historically, our download pages have only used USB in the description for small images and only used CD when describing the netinst. Of course, someone who just wants an image to burn, doesn't want the DIY hd-media approach. Most of the download pages have recently been improved which is great; the testing installer pages still label the netinst as CD and the other images as USB stick. Suggestion: * Under each section heading (Official release etc) state that the netinst, CD and DVD images can all be used to make bootable USB installers * Change other images (netboot, USB stick, etc) to something less attractive like other images (netboot, flexible USB stick, etc) cheers Stuart -- System Information: Debian Release: 8.0 APT prefers testing-updates APT policy: (550, 'testing-updates'), (550, 'testing'), (60, 'unstable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 3.16.0-4-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_AU.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_AU.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. No previous problems in this sense before that upgrade. I have 'intel-microcode' and 'firmware-linux-free' installed from the beginning. Some suggested that it could be a systemd-related problem. After that report I was able to sometimes halt the computer correctly either from the gnome interface or from the console. This has not happenend again in the last three weeks. I am force to halt the computer by letting it restart and use the power switch when GRUB starts. Of course, what I expect is to be able to halt the computer cleanly, as easily as possible but at the very least by root on the console. I apologise if this is not the right place to report this bug and I would appreciate suggestions about where it should go. -- System Information: Debian Release: 8.0 APT prefers testing-updates APT policy: (500, 'testing-updates'), (500, 'testing') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 3.16.0-4-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#775828: unnecessary dependency on libgcc1
Package: knowthelist Version: 2.3.0-1 Severity: important Tags: patch This package is not taken for build on the hppa architecture, since it has a hardcoded build-dependency on the libgcc1 which we don't provide. Instead we have the newer libgcc4 and such. In my opinion, this package should not have any build-dependency on any libgcc package. The compiler picks up the correct libgcc anyway. This problem may be triggered by heavy load at startup. I am experiencing this on a 'server' type system that starts many services at boot time, while another Debian machine with wireless starts distccd successfully. On the Dell machine you have, I'm not personally aware of workarounds/fixes for it, but I know that on some machines re-flashing the firmware can force fix this by forcing cleaning of used space. After some googling, I cleaned up /sys/fs/pstore, which contained dmesg-* files, and that cleaned up /sys/firmware/efi/vars/ such that efibootmgr can do its job. Ah, OK. Phew. :-) There are a couple things happening, though. The first one is that it adds a debian entry. I'm not sure, though, that the grub entry name doesn't just come from me adding it manually with a different name (since, iirc, this very bug left me with no grub entry at all) than it had in the first place or if it /was/ named grub originally. So I do end up with 3 entries: grub, debian and Windows Boot Manager listed by efibootmgr. The automatic setup of grub-install calling efibootmgr won't be touching the grub entry at all - it's set up to only play with debian entries. So that should be safe. But then comes the second thing: when I reboot, the debian entry is lost. Poof, disappeared. And I do wonder if the initial problem is not related to that. That is still happening? Bug#775826: www.debian.org: [CD/faq] discourage use of unetbootin
Package: www.debian.org Severity: normal Hi! In #775689 and #775814, there has been discussion about the need to clarify for users that unetbootin is a poor choice of utility for copying an installer image onto a USB stick. In the CD/faq [1], How do I write a CD image to a USB flash drive? suggests that the user could use win32diskimager if not yet running a suitable GNU/Linux distribution. It would be good to add to that paragraph a note that unetbootin is best avoided for this task. They are called 33 % - 400 % in Caja (editpreferencesviewsicon view) and smallest, smaller, small, standard, large, larger, largest in dconf-editor (orgmatecajaicon view). This way it should be easy to change between icon sizes. But in reality (at least in my case) changing those settings (no matter whether using Caja or dconf-editor) the outcome is not predictable. Changing to a bigger size might give you smaller icons. Setting the standard size might show the biggest of all. You just have to try them to get the size you want. Just don't expect that setting to 100 % now will give you the same size as setting to 100 % in five minutes will. Regards Günter Heine I can confirm that issue. Bug#770871: ModemManager only starts up if system is PID 1
tags: -1 + moreinfo help Am 20.01.2015 um 11:42 schrieb Mike Gabriel: Severity: serious Justification: GSM modem support will not work out-of-the-box with non-systemd setups Hi, I see a similar issue about ModemManager not coming up by default via network-manager. Looks like ModemManager starts just fine here if I boot with sysvinit. If, as you say, NM no longer pokes the D-Bus service, I guess something else in the desktop (GNOME3 here) does it. So this issue might be specific to certain DEs. Solution IMHO: o Provide an init script in /etc/init.d/ that launches ModemManager on non-systemd machines o other options??? I don't think adding an init script to ModemManager is a good option. For one, I don't want to start MM unconditionally. I'd rather have NM use a runtime check for systemd (sd_booted()). All the code still seems to be there [1], it just needs to be changed to use a runtime check instead of compile time. I'm inclined to re-assign this to NM. I hope we can get this fixed for jessie. I'd be willing to review and merge a tested patch for NM. Changing volume and toggling mute have no effect. mplayer -ao alsa still works, as does padsp mplayer -ao oss. paplay works as well, as do other applications using pulseaudio. I tried downgrading libav libraries to before the most recent upgrade a couple of days ago, but that doesn't seem to have made a difference. After further investigation, it looks like this is tied to HDMI audio. I hooked up to an external HDMI monitor, and used the GNOME sound control panel to switch audio output to HDMI, then played a few movies. Afterward, I disconnected from that monitor, but I didn't have any sound from the default pulse audio output device; mplayer -ao alsa worked. Just now, I connected to another external monitor, and found that the default pulse output worked, without even switching over to it. I manually switched back to speakers, and now the default sound output works again, even after disconnecting. It looks like somehow Pulse got into a state where it thought it was sending sound to HDMI. *However*, that state somehow only affected mplayer, not totem, paplay, or the alsa output device. Not sure where the bug was, here, but there's definitely a bug. Hi, More information would be necessary to be sure (like the output of pactl info and a verbose pulseaudio log when the problem is exhibiting itself), but I think this is a feature, not a bug. Pulseaudio remembers where a stream was playing to last time, and plugs the stream there. This can lead sometimes to surprising behavior, but it is the expected behavior from an upstream POV. You can use pavucontrol to control to which device a given app is playing to. Pasystray also offers the same functionality and stays on your tray. Bug#775756: -ao pulse stopped producing audio; alsa and oss still work

But then PA should be smart enough to realize when the device isn't even connected anymore. Define enough ;). As far as I can tell, pulseaudio does detect if the hdmi device is plugged or not. However, behavior is a bit strange because different logic applies at different times. I'm guessing the problem here is that module-stream-restore is detecting it already knows about mplayer2, so it will move that stream to the hdmi device. However, being unplugged does not mean the HDMI device disappears (in cards where the hdmi device is a separate device). Therefore, silence. If it helps: snd_hda_codec_hdmi. At least in the PulseAudio control panel, the HDMI audio device did not show up while I was observing the problem with mplayer2 not producing audio output. Please attach a verbose log of pulseaudio[1] while reproducing the problem, plus the output of `pactl list` If the device is not showing up in pavucontrol, then this would be indeed a bug in pulseaudio. Bug#775837: inn2: Wrong usage of dpkg --print-architecture in maintscript
Package: inn2 Version: 2.5.4-1 Severity: important [ This might actually deserve to be serious, as the db might not get rebuilt, but I'll leave that to the maintainer's discretion. ] Hi! This package's preinst script is using «dpkg --print-architecture» incorrectly. That command outputs the native architecture according to dpkg, but that won't necessarily match the binary package architecture, which is what it seems the maintainer script wants to know. You can use the DPKG_MAINTSCRIPT_ARCH environment variable, set by dpkg itself since 1.15.4, to get the current package architecture. Bug#712902: (no subject)
Yes, I can confirm. This command works for me (I'm using sudo, no root user): gksu unetbootin Another way is changing the default behaviour from su to sudo in gksu-properties, as suggested here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unetbootin/+bug/1195061/comments/10 And now it works also graphically.

Bug#775761: libguestfs incorrectly detects host CPU architecture
On Tue, Jan 20, 2015 at 07:42:10AM -0800, Rogier wrote: It looks as if libguestfs is configured wrongly, or maybe you've got the 32 bit version of libguestfs installed on your system. I do have a 32-bit version (my entire userland is still 32-bit - it used to be the better choice, and as migrating to 64-bit is a major operation, it is not a high priority...). So the 32-bit version of libguestfs assumes that the qemu version of choice must also be 32 bit, but then it chooses to boot a 64-bit kernel ? You can choose which kernel gets booted by setting up some environment variables. See the manual page here: http://libguestfs.org/supermin.1.html#USING-A-CUSTOM-KERNEL-AND-KERNEL-MODULES Basically just: export SUPERMIN_KERNEL=/boot/my-vmlinuz export SUPERMIN_KERNEL_VERSION=3.XX.0 export SUPERMIN_MODULES=/lib/modules/3.XX.0 Of course, it means you must have a 32 bit kernel for this to work, and supermin will need to find 32 bit binaries and so on. Alternative is to set LIBGUESTFS_HV=/usr/bin/qemu-system-x86_64 which seemed to work for you.
