Bug#841345: [debian-mysql] Bug#841345: mysql-server-5.7: Unable to switch from mariadb to mysql, "downgrade" is aborted

2016-10-19 Thread Bjoern Boschman
Hi,

thanks for your bug report.
when it comes to switching between mysql and mariadb versions this might
get tricky as we have to define which versions can be switched and which
not.
To be honest I have no clue which mariadb version could be replaced by
mysql and vica versa.
Maybe some team members (Otto?) may have more insight?

Cheers
B

Hi,

I've updated the git repo after I did a successful build on jessie.
Someone with upload rights just needs to create a ~experimental tag and
upload it.

@pkg-mysql: what's the plan for uploading mysql-5.7 to unstable?

 Hi,

While working on the reproducible builds effort [1], we have noticed
that serverstats could not be built reproducibly.

The attached patch removes umask variability from the build system. Once
applied, serverstats can be built reproducibly in our reproducible
 toolchain.

I think a better fix would be to drop the use of DH_FIXPERMS_EXCLUDE
 (which
is deprecated anyway) and make the changes you want in another hook.
 This
would have the added benefit of being more explicit about the changes
between a regular package and what serverstats needs to do. Just a
 thought.

Bug#721487: [debian-mysql] Bug#721487: mysql-server: standard mysql server installation does not listen on tcp6 protocol

2013-09-01 Thread Bjoern Boschman

Hi Adrian,

letting mysql-server listen on localhost only is the default debian
configuration. This was done as a security enhancement.

Unfortunatelly you can only supply a single IP address to bind-address

So there are only:

bind-address = 127.0.0.1 # IPv4 localhost only
bind-address = ::1 # IPv6 localhost only
bind-address = 0.0.0.0 # IPv4 any
bind-address = :: # IPv6 any

but now way to open localhost for IPv4 and IPv6 only.

my vote - close bug as it is a configuration issue.

Cheers

  Database connection :-)

my default installtion of mysql does not listen via IPv6 protocol for
connections, only via IPv4 protocol.

Here is the output of netstat:

root@g6 (~) % netstat --inet --listen -p -n | grep mysql
tcp0 0 127.0.0.1:3306 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN
27020/mysqld
root@g6 (~) % netstat --inet6 --listen -p -n | grep mysql

Would it be possible to make mysql listen on IPv6 with a special configuration
option (I don't know) or is it a bug? I was not not able to find the option in
the default configuration files.

Sincerely,

Adrian Immanuel KIESS

Bug#664639: mysql and logging

2012-07-16 Thread Bjoern Boschman
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi Nicholas,

the basic problem can be reproduced as follows:

configure error logging:

[mysqld]
log-error = /var/log/mysql/error.log

and restart mysql-server

chown root /var/log/mysql/error.log
mysqladmin --defaults-file=/etc/mysql/debian.cnf flush-logs
mysqladmin: refresh failed; error: 'Unknown error'

The problem seems to be related in mysqld_safe which under some
circumstances creates the log-error file with root as file owner.

I definately did not do this on purpose, but it might come from on
older 5.1 installation.

When you manually fix the file-owner (chown mysql
/var/log/mysql/error.log ) the problem disappers.

- -snip-
regarding mysqld startup:

the SVN/experimental fix is basically :ugly:
from some discussion on the #mysql.de channel I very likely believe we
should not be using mysqld_safe at all, but start the mysqld process
directly.
Unfortunatelly I did not find the time to write a proposal for an
updated init-script yet :(

- -snip_
regarding logrotate:

problem with logrotate basically is that we do not have any clue which
logfiles will be created as this information comes from the mysqld config.
- From the distributed my.cnf no logging is done at all.

I'll get back to you @IRC as soon as my employee will leave me some
time to do so ;-)

my mysql.user table still includes 'user'@'%' records.

- From 8.9.8 I can read the following:

To disable DNS host name lookups, start the server with the
- --skip-name-resolve option.

This in my ears sound like: disable any gethostbyaddr/gethostbyname
requests no matter what. But it still uses these system calls (what
can be seen in tcpdump or similar)

Any wildcard name based GRANTS (e.g. 'user'@'%.foo.com') are no longer
supposed to work, but IP wildcard GRANTS (e.g. 'user'@'192.168.0.%')
must still work.

Cheers

reassign 664639 mysql-server-5.5
retitle 664639 mysqld_safe creates logfile as root which prevents
mysqld from appending

Hi,

I've attached strace output from mysqladmin.
As you can see the errormsg 'ERROR 1105 (HY000): Unknown error' is
generated by the mysqld process.

Also I've attached an strace output from the running mysql daemon.
There you can see that the error is generated because of this:

[pid 12372] open(/var/log/mysql/error.log,
O_WRONLY|O_CREAT|O_APPEND, 0666) = -1 EACCES (Permission denied)

I've checked the file permissions and mysqld, which is running as user
mysql, cannot write to that logfile:

- -rw-rw 1 root adm 8075 Jun 19 10:25 /var/log/mysql/error.log

With logging enabled via mysql.cnf
[mysqld]
log-error = /var/log/mysql/error.log

But how comes that this file is owned by root?

Having a look into that logfile the first line gives the answer:

120313 12:27:41 mysqld_safe Starting mysqld daemon with databases from
/var/lib/mysql

This means the logfile initially has been created by the mysqld_safe
process (umask 007) and therefor is not writeable for the mysqld process.

Currently I do not have an idea how to fix this, but I'll stay on track

Hi again,

it seems to me that there is no reason why mysqld_safe is running as
user root at all.

I have done a patch (r2162 within subversion) which changes this
behaviour (currently mysql-server-5.5 only)

Hi,

unfortunatelly I still have a lot of /usr/bin/mysqladmin: refresh
failed; error: 'Unknown error'

This happens during the daily logrotate but can also be reproduced
while running mysqladmin via commandline.

As I have several systems affected I could also start mysqladmin more
verbose or via strace if this would help?

Would be great to hear from anybody!

Bug#664846: mysql-server-5.1: MySQL Server does DNS-PTR lookups even when skip-name-resolve is active

2012-03-21 Thread Bjoern Boschman
Package: mysql-server-5.1
Version: 5.1.61-0+squeeze1
Severity: important

Hi folks,

I'm running my MySQL server with the --skip-name-resolve.
I verified that this option is enabled via:

mysql show variables LIKE 'skip_name_resolve'\G
*** 1. row ***
Variable_name: skip_name_resolve
Value: ON
1 row in set (0.00 sec)

Unfortunatelly SQL connections from remote hosts are very slow in the handshake
phase.
I found that this is the case for hosts where no PTR record is set.

After that I started a tcpdump on the mysql-server host looking for DNS queries
and I see several PTR lookup each time a remote client wants to connect.

If you need more information do not hesitate to contact me.

Cheers
B

It looks like that screenshot is from a virtual machine emulated

To catch future issues like this, I recommend running virtual

Hi Lucas,

you're right that this bug has never been meantioned in the changelog.
The fix came up by Nion but never made it the way into eighter
unstable/testing NOR debian-security for etch at that time.

It was a bad timing at all, because two days after Nions NMU I asked fs
to sponsor the upload of a complete new upstream release where the bug
already has been fixed and I ahdn't even been aware of that bug.

From my point of view there are currently two issues to deal with.

First and more important: Why is this fix not in debian-security for
oldstable?

Secondly how to handle the missing changelog entry?

not sure. was it fixed in unstable only, or also in stable (at the
time)?

it was only fixed in unstable that time. The version currently available
via oldstable/etch is still vulnerable.

Secondly how to handle the missing changelog entry?

just manually version-close it with the version it was fixed:

Ok, I'll do this as soon as an DSA will be available for oldstable.

To be honest I removed the debconf stuff as this was my first Debian

As I thought that this is not real manadatory for such a small package

Description: kernel driver for implementation of Oracle ASMLib

Long Description:

ASMLib is a support library for the Automatic Storage Management feature
of Oracle Database 10g. Automatic Storage Management (ASM) simplifies
database administration. It eliminates the need for the DBA to directly
manage potentially thousands of Oracle database files, requiring only
the management of groups of disks allocated to the Oracle Database.
ASMLib allows an Oracle Database using ASM more efficient and capable
access to the disk groups it is using.

That is too long. Keep the short description to one sentence, preferably
not more than about 60 characters.

(Include the long description here.)

You also need to create a long description, so we can review it before
you upload this package.

Hi,

I already noticed that there are some issues using newer kernel versions
and I bounced that info to the upstream.

Much better! The only thing that is unclear from the long description is
whether this is a library or a kernel driver. Looking at the oracleasm
source, it is indeed a kernel driver. You should mention this in the
long description as well.

On a side note, I tried to compile it on 2.6.22.1 for the amd64
architecture, but it failed.

Bug#430155: ipv6 mirror list

2007-06-23 Thread Bjoern Boschman

Hi,

as far as I know not all CC mirrors support IPv6.
I also do not believe that this is gonna be the case in near future.
It's also not yet practicable to define v6 connectivity as a mandatory
requirement for CC mirrors.

I recently updated my list [1] which is unfortunatelly not
representive. You can download the script I've written to generate that
list from here:

http://jesusch.de/~jesusch/debian/v6mirror.sh

That would mean analyzing the possible cause of failure when trying to
get packageswhich is a somewhat complicated task because of the
various possible errors that can happen on private mirrors.

IMHO, having the installer say that it failed to retrieve this or that
package is the only reasonable solutionwhich is what we're doing
right now.

As d-i now uses 2.6.16 detection of the SAS controller is working now.
But as long as 2.5.15 still remains in etch it's not possible to install that pretty Hardware-plattform with a standard debian-installer.

Bug#367634: mpt* RAID support fixed with kernel 2.6.16

2006-05-30 Thread Bjoern Boschman

Hi,

I just installed linux-source-2.6.16-14, build a kernel-image and it
mpt* support is working.
So problem is that d-i still uses 2.6.15 which seems to support the mpt*
cards but only when the harddisks are not in an RAID array
It would be really great if this could be solved towards release of etch
- otherwise we would miss support for a great hardware plattform

If I might support in any way don't hesitate to contact me

Bug#367634: mpt* RAID support fixed with kernel 2.6.16

2006-05-30 Thread Bjoern Boschman

Hi Joey,

I've forgotten to mention that it is an AMD64 which haven't been build
since Apr 08

I just installed linux-source-2.6.16-14, build a kernel-image and it
mpt* support is working.
So problem is that d-i still uses 2.6.15 which seems to support the mpt*
cards but only when the harddisks are not in an RAID array

Currently daily builds of d-i use the 2.6.16 kernel from unstable.

Bug#367634: Modified source of mpt*

2006-05-18 Thread Bjoern Boschman

Hi,

FJP: the mpt* drivers are already on place but they are differnet from
the drivers provided by LSI
linux-kernel-2.6.16.16 offers version 3.03.07 but it seems that those
drivers do not include support for some cards

I prepared a diff [0] of latest kernel.org and LSI drivers (3.02.68).

Geert: Sorry I did not know about those logfiles - I thought the images
are really build _daily_. How may I support making daily d-i builds?

Comments/Problems:

Hi,

I've tried to install that server with different mediums (inofficial amd64
sarge d-i, sarge i386 d-i, etch beta2 amd64, etch daily amd64) but none of them
seems to support the SAS controller card
Finally I was able to install the machine with hints from [0] and [1]
I do not know for sure if the LSI drivers [3] are already part of official
kernel. I'll try to figure that out by now.
If more details are required feel free to contact me.

Bug#346677: xlibs-dev

2006-01-13 Thread Bjoern Boschman
Hi,

this bug can easily be solved by just removing the build-dependency xlibs-dev
( 4.1.0) from debian/control file
This package doesn't seem to build depend on this.
