Indeed, s390-zfcp is part of Debian Installer and should be translated
through its l10n system. And, localization was indeed removed in
recent changes, so I'm afraid this makes this translation now
useless:-(

Dear Debian maintainer,

On Wednesday, February 17, 2016, I notified you of the beginning of a review 
process
concerning debconf templates for eviacam.

The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates,
and the final proposed changes are attached to this update to the
original bug report.

Please review the suggested changes, and if you have any
objections, let me know in the next 3 days.

However, please try to avoid uploading eviacam with these changes
right now.

The second phase of this process will begin on Sunday, March 06, 2016, when I 
will
coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates.

The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will
receive an updated PO file for their language.

Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to
the debian-i18n mailing list.

Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as
individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug
reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with.

The call for translation updates and new translations will run until
about Sunday, March 27, 2016. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed or 
changed
debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of
course, other changes are safe.

Please note that this is an approximative delay, which depends on my
own availability to process this work and is influenced by the fact
that I simultaneously work on many packages.

Around Monday, March 28, 2016, I will contact you again and will send a final 
patch
summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates,
updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations).

Doh. This, and the other issue you reported leads me to think that I
should hand up the maintenance of the geneweb package to somebody
else.

I no longer use geneweb myself, except by having a running instance on
my home server so that my genealogical research stays available to
others even though I stopped it about 15 years ago.

Moreover, I don't follow upstream development closely enough, mostly
starting when I noticed that upstream was going in weird directions
(from my POV), making geneweb 7.x versions nearly impossible to
package for distros (again, from my own POVthat was maybe just
lazyness to understand the changes).

As a consequence, I'm seriously thinking about orphaning geneweb or,
better, hand the maintenance out to someone else.

So, well, if anyone reading this is interested, please get in touch
with me.

Raising the severity of this bug report, by the way: if geneweb is
unusable, it should not enter testing...and if it stays as is, it
should be removed from testing (incredibly sad after 17 years
maitneannce of the package, but c'est la vie).

Hello,

I just noticed new or modified debconf templates appearing for this
package.

I would like to suggest you to consider calling for debconf templates
review AND translation updates when you introduce new debconf
templates or modify the existing templates in a package or, if you
prefer, to send a call for translations after uploading the first
version that introduces new templates or templates changes.

If you're interested in suggestions for doing this, you can find some
at the end of this bug report.

The debian-l10n-english team will now start a review, on our own
initiative. It will be conducted through this bug report.


Suggestions for future debconf templates review


1) Getting debconf templates reviewed
--

The Debian i18n contributors have developed a set of suggestions for
the writing style of debconf templates, to give them an overall
consistency all around Debian. These writing style suggestions are
explained in the Developers Reference. Lintian also warns about common
writing style concerns.

Maintainers are welcome when they ask for a review of debconf templates
and/or packages descriptions on debian-l10n-engl...@lists.debian.org.
It is of course not needed to wait for someone (such as me right me)
proposing you such a review.

In such situations (whether the review is requested by the maintainer
or proposed by someone else), someone from the debian-l10n-english
team will pick up the review to do, handle it, and finally send you a
bug report with the suggested templates. If you want, you can ask for
being CC'ed to the various discussions when the templates are
reviewed.


2) Call for new translations


As soon as the templates have been reviewed, you can ask Debian
translators for new translations:

Just go to your package's build tree and use:

$ podebconf-report-po --call

This will propose you a generic mail which is to be sent to
debian-i...@lists.debian.org and call for new translations.

This utility will mention existing translations to avoid duplicate
work. 

It will also attach the needed material to this mail.

Please also think about giving a deadline to translators. We like
deadlines..:-)

3) Always call for translation updates before uploading
---

(of course only when you change the debconf templates!)

If your package already includes debconf translations (ie *.po files
in debian/po), please consider calling for translation updates if you
happen to change something in the templates...or just in case when you
release a new version.

This is done with the following command:

$ podebconf-report-po

This will build private mails to translators (ie people listed in
"Last-Translator" in the PO files) for translations that are
incomplete. These mails will included the needed PO file for each
translator.

If you do not already use it, you might consider using the
"podebconf-report-po" utility, which helps warning translators about
changes when you modify some debconf templates in your packages.

The usual policy when using it is sending a warning to translators
when you plan to upload a version of your package with debconf
templates changes (even typo corrections). Then leave about one week
for them to update their files (several translation teams have a QA
process which requires time).

podebconf-report-po will take care of sending the translators the
needed material as well as getting the translators adresses from the
PO files. All you have to do is just using the utility..:-)

Example use (from your package build tree):

$ podebconf-report-po

This will go through debian/po/*.po files, find those needing an
update, extract the translators data from these files and prepare a
mail to send to these translators (you can also use the
"--languageteam" switch to also mail the mail addresses listed in
"Language-Team" field).

You can also use this utility to request for new translations:

$ podebconf-report-po --call

This will send a mail to debian-i...@lists.debian.org with all the
needed information and material for new translators to add new
languages to your supported languages.

Thanks for the report.

garmin-plugin will indeed be rebuilt RSN, with a versioned
build-dependency on garmin-forerunner-tools and code changes to
accomodate the migration to libusbdev-1.0. This breakage was indeed

Indeed the reverse patch fixes the problem, but I got the point anywa,
thanks!

This ca.po file is weird. It has something strange which I can't catch
in its first line, which explains why grep thinks it's binary data, I
guess.

Anyway, building the package right now. It's quite some time since I
did so, so I hope that nothing else weird happens..:-)

Kristof, is there any chance that you have a look at this.

I tried simply using src/cmake/Findlibusb-1.0.cmake instead of
FindLIBUSB.cmake and chance the #include in SerialUSB.cpp to include
libusb.h instead of usb.h, but that fails, as one would expect.

I don't have the needed skills to fix this myself, I'm afraid

For me, confidence in the respect of processes and other's opinion as
well as care to consider all possible aspects of difficult ttechnical
decisions is something I should grant to someone I've seen doing such
things in the project for years, even before I joined the project
myself...and including some technically difficult changes that may
impact the entire system.

So, yes, this is personal and I fully assume giving more credit to
Md's proposal and the way to push it than Joe Random Developer. That
has often be my way to work in the project and, surprisingly it works
faily well...particularly when dealing with issues I don't fully
understand (or, in this case, issues I have no enough free time to try
understanding).

Roughly looking at the changes, I'm OK with all of them, including the
packaging QA. 

Thanks a lot for your work, which seems great.

I could of course merge everything in the packaging git repo (assuming
that I remember the correct git-fu incantations)but I'd prefer
more atomic changes.

Indeed, what would help me would be:

1) cut the packaging QA commit
(6c0f66469f49feff4a7e43bce502d6672e3ec1e9) in on commit per each
individual change so that I can apply the patches individually and
have a better git log in the main repository

2) instead of applying the upstream changes in master, build a tarball
with upstream git snapshot so that I could use git-import-orig and
then use an upstream version name such as "1.10.2~git20160104"

I can of course do both 1) and 2) but I don't really know when...:-)

Giving you commit access to the packaging git repository is certainly
something I'd be happy to do if you're OK with this. I'd then just
need the name of your Alioth account if you already have one.

No idea whether what you're proposing is relevant or notbut
there's something I'm deeply sure of : that won't be solved through a
"general" bug report.

Such vague bug reports are usually either quickly closedor just
ignored by everybody in the project.

Discussing infrastructure changes like what you're proposing (which I
have no advice about) should usually be done through our mailing
lists, get some kind of agreement, include some implementation in key
packages, and get enough consensus among developers to draw the needed
changes in the infranstructure (in this case, our software
repositories, at minimum).

So, zero chances that this happens through a (soon to be forgotten)
bug report. No offense, but that's reality.

fixed. task-xfce-desktop has only the duty to depend on Xfce packages,

The Debian internationalisation team and the Debian English
localisation team will soon begin the review of the debconf
templates used in debci.

This review takes place for all packages that use debconf to interact with
users and its aims are:
- to improve the use of English in all debconf templates;
- to make the wording of debconf templates more consistent;
- to encourage more translations of templates.

Even if your first language is English, this process is likely to help
track down typos or errors, and improve consistency between the
debconf templates of your package and that of other packages in the
distribution.

The process involves both debian-l10n-english contributors and
Debian translators.

The details of the process are given in

I will act as the coordinator of this activity for debci.

The first step of the process is to review the debconf source
template file(s) of debci. This review will start on Monday, December 14, 2015,

as soon as you acknowledge this mail with an agreement for us to

All parts of the process will be carried out in close collaboration
with you, and, unless you explicitly ask for it, no upload nor NMU
will happen for debci.

If you approve this process, please let us know by replying to this
mail. If some work in progress on your side would conflict with such a
rewrite (such as adding or removing debconf templates), please say so,
and we will defer the review to later in the development cycle.

I just noticed new or modified debconf templates appearing for this
package.

I would like to suggest you to consider calling for debconf templates
review AND translation updates when you introduce new debconf
templates or modify the existing templates in a package or, if you
prefer, to send a call for translations after uploading the first
version that introduces new templates or templates changes.

If you're interested in suggestions for doing this, you can find some
at the end of this bug report.

The debian-l10n-english team will now start a review, on our own
initiative. It will be conducted through this bug report.


Suggestions for future debconf templates review


1) Getting debconf templates reviewed
--

The Debian i18n contributors have developed a set of suggestions for
the writing style of debconf templates, to give them an overall
consistency all around Debian. These writing style suggestions are
explained in the Developers Reference. Lintian also warns about common
writing style concerns.

Maintainers are welcome when they ask for a review of debconf templates
and/or packages descriptions on debian-l10n-engl...@lists.debian.org.
It is of course not needed to wait for someone (such as me right me)
proposing you such a review.

In such situations (whether the review is requested by the maintainer
or proposed by someone else), someone from the debian-l10n-english
team will pick up the review to do, handle it, and finally send you a
bug report with the suggested templates. If you want, you can ask for
being CC'ed to the various discussions when the templates are
reviewed.


2) Call for new translations


As soon as the templates have been reviewed, you can ask Debian
translators for new translations:

Just go to your package's build tree and use:

$ podebconf-report-po --call

This will propose you a generic mail which is to be sent to
debian-i...@lists.debian.org and call for new translations.

This utility will mention existing translations to avoid duplicate
work. 

It will also attach the needed material to this mail.

Please also think about giving a deadline to translators. We like
deadlines..:-)

3) Always call for translation updates before uploading
---

(of course only when you change the debconf templates!)

If your package already includes debconf translations (ie *.po files
in debian/po), please consider calling for translation updates if you
happen to change something in the templates...or just in case when you
release a new version.

This is done with the following command:

$ podebconf-report-po

This will build private mails to translators (ie people listed in
"Last-Translator" in the PO files) for translations that are
incomplete. These mails will included the needed PO file for each
translator.

Dear Debian maintainer,

On Monday, October 12, 2015, I sent you a notification about the beginning of a 
review
action on debconf templates for unattended-upgrades.

Then, I sent you a bug report with rewritten templates and announcing
the beginning of the second phase of this action: call for translation
updates.

Translators have been working hard and here is now the result of their efforts.

Please consider using it EVEN if you committed files to your
development tree as long as they were reported.

The attached tarball contains:

- debian/changelog with the list of changes
- debian/control with rewrites of packages' descriptions
- debian/ with all the rewritten templates file(s)
- debian/po/*.po with all PO files (existing ones and new ones)

As said, please use *at least* the PO files as provided here,
preferrably over those sent by translators in their bug reports. All
of them have been checked and reformatted. In some cases, formatting
errors have been corrected.

The patch.rfr file contains a patch for the templates and control
file(s) alone.

Please note that this patch applies to the templates and control
file(s) of your package as of Monday, October 12, 2015. If your package was 
updated
in the meantime, I may have updated my reference copybut I also
may have missed that. This is indeed why I suggested you do not
modified such files while the review process was running,
remember..:-)

It is now safe to upload a new package version with these changes.

OpenStack-related packages.

Dropping translations from one of these (debian/po/*po) in debian/po

package would help, instead of having us, translators, doing the very
same by randomly picking another OpenStack-realted package. Something
I now refuse to do for French translations, sorry. For once, *I* want
to be the one to be lazy.

On Monday, October 12, 2015, I notified you of the beginning of a review process
concerning debconf templates for unattended-upgrades.

The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates,
and the final proposed changes are attached to this update to the
original bug report.

Please review the suggested changes, and if you have any
objections, let me know in the next 3 days.

However, please try to avoid uploading unattended-upgrades with these changes
right now.

The second phase of this process will begin on Monday, November 02, 2015, when 
I will
coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates.

The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will
receive an updated PO file for their language.

Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to
the debian-i18n mailing list.

Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as
individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug
reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with.

The call for translation updates and new translations will run until
about Monday, November 23, 2015. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed or 
changed
debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of
course, other changes are safe.

Please note that this is an approximative delay, which depends on my
own availability to process this work and is influenced by the fact
that I simultaneously work on many packages.

Around Tuesday, November 24, 2015, I will contact you again and will send a

I (supposedly) fixed the issue in tzsetup, will wait for the magic
l10n sync of next noght and then I'll "fix" the Spanish translation pf
D-I (and, well, also the French translation, assuming therewill be at
least one person, sometime, using D-I with "French" as language and
"Mexico" as country.

Yes. This warning is kinda old and debatable (even though I seem to
remember that I was the one promoting it in the past). Its main
rationale was to be sure that users see the whole template when using
a 80x25 terminal. When the text is longer, users have to scroll the
template in the default interface for debconf and that may be
disturbing.

So, in general, it's advised to avoid too long texts, which is not
always possible.

So, yes, I'd recommend ignoring the warning, it's not really a big deal.

preferrably over those sent by translators in their bug reports. All
of them have been checked and reformatted. In some cases, formatting
errors have been corrected.

The patch.rfr file contains a patch for the templates and control
file(s) alone.

Please note that this patch applies to the templates and control
file(s) of your package as of Monday, September 07, 2015. If your package was 
updated
in the meantime, I may have updated my reference copybut I also
may have missed that. This is indeed why I suggested you do not

I don't have changes to suggest. I kinda feel that the 2nd templates
would benefit from being omre explicit or detailed, but I don't really
find good ways to do so except by adding a very long and clumsy
explanation. After all, the example that is in the default value is
more or less self-explanatory.

I leave this up for review in icase someone else from the dle team
(understand Justin) would have suggestions to give.

Hello,

The team is not really active but the tools are there: git repository,
mailing lists on Alioth.

Serge and John (CC'ed) have mentioned their intent to resume the work
on shadow, too. So I guess it's be easy to take things over.

My intent, in the "orphan" bug report, was mostly to officially
announce that nobody should wait for me for package uploads, changes,
etc.

I'd happy to hand out the pkg-shadow project on Alioth to another
person, of course, so that the work can continue/resume smoothly.

I intend to orphan the shadow package.

It is indeed time for me to accept that I won't be useful anymor efor
this package and, instead of blocking its adoption by someone else, I
should officially orphan it.

The Debian internationalisation team and the Debian English
localisation team will soon begin the review of the debconf
templates used in unattended-upgrades.

This review takes place for all packages that use debconf to interact with
users and its aims are:
- to improve the use of English in all debconf templates;
- to make the wording of debconf templates more consistent;
- to encourage more translations of templates.

Even if your first language is English, this process is likely to help
track down typos or errors, and improve consistency between the
debconf templates of your package and that of other packages in the
distribution.

The process involves both debian-l10n-english contributors and
Debian translators.

I will act as the coordinator of this activity for unattended-upgrades.

The first step of the process is to review the debconf source

Bug#799685: [BTS#799685] templates://dyfi/{templates} : Final update for English review

Dear Debian maintainer,

On Saturday, September 26, 2015, I notified you of the beginning of a review 
process
concerning debconf templates for dyfi.

The debian-l10n-english contributors have now reviewed these templates,
and the final proposed changes are attached to this update to the
original bug report.

Please review the suggested changes, and if you have any
objections, let me know in the next 3 days.

However, please try to avoid uploading dyfi with these changes
right now.

The second phase of this process will begin on Friday, October 16, 2015, when I 
will
coordinate updates to translations of debconf templates.

The existing translators will be notified of the changes: they will
receive an updated PO file for their language.

Simultaneously, a general call for new translations will be sent to
the debian-i18n mailing list.

Both these calls for translations will request updates to be sent as
individual bug reports. That will probably trigger a lot of bug
reports against your package, but these should be easier to deal with.

The call for translation updates and new translations will run until
about Friday, November 06, 2015. Please avoid uploading a package with fixed or 
changed
debconf templates and/or translation updates in the meantime. Of
course, other changes are safe.

Please note that this is an approximative delay, which depends on my
own availability to process this work and is influenced by the fact
that I simultaneously work on many packages.

Around Saturday, November 07, 2015, I will contact you again and will send a 
final patch
summarizing all the updates (changes to debconf templates,
updates to debconf translations and new debconf translations).

Hello,

I just noticed new or modified debconf templates appearing for this
package.

I would like to suggest you to consider calling for debconf templates
review AND translation updates when you introduce new debconf
templates or modify the existing templates in a package or, if you
prefer, to send a call for translations after uploading the first
version that introduces new templates or templates changes.

If you're interested in suggestions for doing this, you can find some
at the end of this bug report.

The debian-l10n-english team will now start a review, on our own
initiative. It will be conducted through this bug report.


Suggestions for future debconf templates review


1) Getting debconf templates reviewed
--

The Debian i18n contributors have developed a set of suggestions for
the writing style of debconf templates, to give them an overall
consistency all around Debian. These writing style suggestions are
explained in the Developers Reference. Lintian also warns about common
writing style concerns.

Maintainers are welcome when they ask for a review of debconf templates
and/or packages descriptions on debian-l10n-engl...@lists.debian.org.
It is of course not needed to wait for someone (such as me right me)
proposing you such a review.

In such situations (whether the review is requested by the maintainer
or proposed by someone else), someone from the debian-l10n-english
team will pick up the review to do, handle it, and finally send you a
bug report with the suggested templates. If you want, you can ask for
being CC'ed to the various discussions when the templates are
reviewed.


2) Call for new translations


As soon as the templates have been reviewed, you can ask Debian
translators for new translations:

Just go to your package's build tree and use:

$ podebconf-report-po --call

This will propose you a generic mail which is to be sent to
debian-i...@lists.debian.org and call for new translations.

This utility will mention existing translations to avoid duplicate
work. 

It will also attach the needed material to this mail.

Please also think about giving a deadline to translators. We like
deadlines..:-)

3) Always call for translation updates before uploading

(of course only when you change the debconf templates!)

If your package already includes debconf translations (ie *.po files
in debian/po), please consider calling for translation updates if you
happen to change something in the templates...or just in case when you
release a new version.

This is done with the following command:

$ podebconf-report-po

This will build private mails to translators (ie people listed in
"Last-Translator" in the PO files) for translations that are
incomplete. These mails will included the needed PO file for each
translator.

I suspect this might be in the DejaVu or FreeFont fontsIIRC, we
already had such reports for these fotns and, IIRC also, the problem
was *not* in the font but in the rendering engine.

Well, thanks for taking care to report this, but:
Which font? In what desktop environment?

This bug report should be assigned to the package providing this font,
not blindly to "debian-i18n", I'm afraid. And without knowing what
font we're taking about, there's little that can be done.

Well, the debconf templates are simple.but the current wording is,
ahem, scarce:-)

It would IMHO not hurt to have at least a long description of what
username and password are askedand standardize on the wording
we're using elsewhere in Debian.

In short, this is very little work and brings the package to the
quality standards of all other packages. After all, if the package is
in Debian, there is a reason...at least, I guess...:-)

The Debian internationalisation team and the Debian English
localisation team will soon begin the review of the debconf
templates used in dyfi.

This review takes place for all packages that use debconf to interact with
users and its aims are:
- to improve the use of English in all debconf templates;
- to make the wording of debconf templates more consistent;
- to encourage more translations of templates.

Even if your first language is English, this process is likely to help
track down typos or errors, and improve consistency between the
debconf templates of your package and that of other packages in the
distribution.

The process involves both debian-l10n-english contributors and
Debian translators.

I will act as the coordinator of this activity for dyfi.

The first step of the process is to review the debconf source
template file(s) of dyfi. This review will start on Tuesday, September 29,

All parts of the process will be carried out in close collaboration
with you, and, unless you explicitly ask for it, no upload nor NMU
will happen for dyfi.

If you approve this process, please let us know by replying to this
mail. If some work in progress on your side would conflict with such a
rewrite (such as adding or removing debconf templates), please say so,
and we will defer the review to later in the development cycle.

Bug#793938: openstreetmap-carto: General update after the debconf review process

Dear Debian maintainer,

On Saturday, August 08, 2015, I sent you a notification about the beginning of 
a review
action on debconf templates for openstreetmap-carto.

Then, I sent you a bug report with rewritten templates and announcing
the beginning of the second phase of this action: call for translation
updates.

Translators have been working hard and here is now the result of their efforts.

Please consider using it EVEN if you committed files to your
development tree as long as they were reported.

The attached tarball contains:

- debian/changelog with the list of changes
- debian/control with rewrites of packages' descriptions
- debian/ with all the rewritten templates file(s)
- debian/po/*.po with all PO files (existing ones and new ones)

As said, please use *at least* the PO files as provided here,
preferrably over those sent by translators in their bug reports. All
of them have been checked and reformatted. In some cases, formatting
errors have been corrected.

The patch.rfr file contains a patch for the templates and control
file(s) alone.

Please note that this patch applies to the templates and control
file(s) of your package as of Saturday, August 08, 2015. If your package was 
updated
in the meantime, I may have updated my reference copybut I also
may have missed that. This is indeed why I suggested you do not
modified such files while the review process was running,
remember..:-)

It is now safe to upload a new package version with these changes.

Please notify me of your intents with regards to this. 

There is of course no hurry to update your package but feel free to
contact me in case you would need sponsoring or any other action to

It's quite some time since I spent time on user-setup, but it could be
because both options are mutually exclusive : if root login is
refused, then a sudoer has to be setup.

But that has to be checked...

Please find attached the french debconf templates update, proofread by the
debian-l10n-french mailing list contributors.

If you do not already use it, you might consider using the
"podebconf-report-po" utility, which helps warning translators about
changes when you modify some debconf templates in your packages.

The usual policy when using it is sending a warning to translators
when you plan to upload a version of your package with debconf
templates changes (even typo corrections). Then leave about one week
for them to update their files (several translation teams have a QA
process which requires time).

podebconf-report-po will take care of sending the translators the
needed material as well as getting the translators adresses from the
PO files. All you have to do is just using the utility..:-)

Example use (from your package build tree):

$ podebconf-report-po

This will go through debian/po/*.po files, find those needing an
update, extract the translators data from these files and prepare a
mail to send to these translators (you can also use the
"--languageteam" switch to also mail the mail addresses listed in
"Language-Team" field).

You can also use this utility to request for new translations:

$ podebconf-report-po --call

This will send a mail to debian-i...@lists.debian.org with all the
needed information and material for new translators to add new
languages to your supported languages.

Hello,

I just noticed new or modified debconf templates appearing for this
package.

I would like to suggest you to consider calling for debconf templates
review AND translation updates when you introduce new debconf
templates or modify the existing templates in a package or, if you
prefer, to send a call for translations after uploading the first
version that introduces new templates or templates changes.

If you're interested in suggestions for doing this, you can find some
at the end of this bug report.

The debian-l10n-english team will now start a review, on our own
initiative. It will be conducted through this bug report.


Suggestions for future debconf templates review


1) Getting debconf templates reviewed
--

The Debian i18n contributors have developed a set of suggestions for
the writing style of debconf templates, to give them an overall
consistency all around Debian. These writing style suggestions are
explained in the Developers Reference. Lintian also warns about common
writing style concerns.

Maintainers are welcome when they ask for a review of debconf templates
and/or packages descriptions on debian-l10n-engl...@lists.debian.org.
It is of course not needed to wait for someone (such as me right me)
proposing you such a review.

In such situations (whether the review is requested by the maintainer
or proposed by someone else), someone from the debian-l10n-english
team will pick up the review to do, handle it, and finally send you a
bug report with the suggested templates. If you want, you can ask for
being CC'ed to the various discussions when the templates are
reviewed.


2) Call for new translations


As soon as the templates have been reviewed, you can ask Debian
translators for new translations:

Just go to your package's build tree and use:

$ podebconf-report-po --call

This will propose you a generic mail which is to be sent to
debian-i...@lists.debian.org and call for new translations.

This utility will mention existing translations to avoid duplicate
work. 

It will also attach the needed material to this mail.

Please also think about giving a deadline to translators. We like
deadlines..:-)

3) Always call for translation updates before uploading
---

(of course only when you change the debconf templates!)

If your package already includes debconf translations (ie *.po files
in debian/po), please consider calling for translation updates if you
happen to change something in the templates...or just in case when you
release a new version.

This is done with the following command:

$ podebconf-report-po

This will build private mails to translators (ie people listed in
"Last-Translator" in the PO files) for translations that are
incomplete. These mails will included the needed PO file for each
translator.

The long text should avoid referencing the synopsis in debconf
templates, hence the proposed rewrite.

I'm not entirely happy with my proposal because it probably doesn't
make clear that the policy allowing mail sending with rewritten
addresses is a "remote" policy and that "this mail server" is the
current machine.

Still, I don't find a good way to make this clear without ending up
with a clumsy text.

They allow having values returned by db_get to be short and
unexplanatory, so that they can be stored in a configuration file or
use in a script. 

However, more  detailed choices values can be given in "Choices" so
that users of English localization environments can get easier to
understand choices.

For instance, for a language choice:

Choices-c: en,fr
__Choices: English, French

Users of en_GB or en_US localizations will see:

* English
* French

and only in unlocalized environments, you get the following choice:

* en
* fr

In short, they allow having an English "translation" of choices.

consistency all around Debian. These writing style suggestions are
explained in the Developers Reference. Lintian also warns about common
writing style concerns.

Maintainers are welcome when they ask for a review of debconf templates
and/or packages descriptions on debian-l10n-engl...@lists.debian.org.
It is of course not needed to wait for someone (such as me right me)
proposing you such a review.

In such situations (whether the review is requested by the maintainer
or proposed by someone else), someone from the debian-l10n-english
team will pick up the review to do, handle it, and finally send you a
bug report with the suggested templates. If you want, you can ask for
being CC'ed to the various discussions when the templates are
reviewed.


2) Call for new translations


As soon as the templates have been reviewed, you can ask Debian
translators for new translations:

Just go to your package's build tree and use:

$ podebconf-report-po --call

This will propose you a generic mail which is to be sent to
debian-i...@lists.debian.org and call for new translations.

This utility will mention existing translations to avoid duplicate
work. 

It will also attach the needed material to this mail.

Please also think about giving a deadline to translators. We like
deadlines..:-)

3) Always call for translation updates before uploading

(of course only when you change the debconf templates!)

If your package already includes debconf translations (ie *.po files
in debian/po), please consider calling for translation updates if you
happen to change something in the templates...or just in case when you
release a new version.

This is done with the following command:

$ podebconf-report-po

This will build private mails to translators (ie people listed in
"Last-Translator" in the PO files) for translations that are
incomplete. These mails will included the needed PO file for each
translator.
