Bug#976632: obsession: Project dead from upstream
Le 06/12/2020 à 07:43, jim_p a écrit : Package: obsession Version: 20140608-2+b1 Severity: normal Tags: upstream X-Debbugs-Cc: pitsior...@gmail.com As it seems, the project is dead. The link to bitbucket leads to a 404. Plus its developer* has probably moved to github and obsession is not among the things he currently maintains. So, I think it is time to remove it from the repo. 6 years with no new versions are more than enough to justify that. Hi Jim, Yeah, I was discussing this problem on the mentors mailing list last month: https://lists.debian.org/debian-mentors/2020/11/msg00139.html I believe this software should no longer be packaged for debian. I was wondering if making a transitional package was the right thing to do. -- fabien

Hi Eriberto, hi mentors, d/changelog: the initial realease is your first work in the package. So, d/changelog must have only 'Initial release (Closes: #731278)'. done. d/copyright: I suggest you put all licenses grouped at the end of the file. This will provide a better organization. done. d/docs: remove AUTHORS. The authors must be put in d/copyright only. done. My only definitive modifications were the creation of manpages. Since I forwarded them to upstream, I now add them with a patch. So, I removed the README.source d/rules: remove the unecessary comments, as '# -*- makefile -*-', '# Uncomment this to turn on verbose mode.' and '# This has to be exported to make some magic below work.'. I kept the emacs-line and removed the other comments. I also suggest you add '--parallel' to 'dh $@'. done. - two 'I' about hardening-no-fortify-functions. I admit I haven't tried to solve this one, but I'm sure tho CPPFLAGS are given to the C++ compiler. So I assumed it was a false-positive. This is the problem. :-) Generally, has a solution. Please, try here: https://wiki.debian.org/Hardening I made sure that the CPPFLAGS are given to the C and the C++ compilers, but the warning remains. Maybe a clue: the binaries produced are not PIE (but they have 'fortify source functions'). Thanks to recent emails on d-mentors (thx ekasper for asking and bmarc for answering), I learned that I could host a personal git repository thanks to my alioth account. Hi Eriberto, On 16/02/2014 13:24, Eriberto wrote: I checked your package. Note that I want help you improve your package but I can upload it. And that's much appreciated. My considerations: d/changelog: the initial realease is your first work in the package. So, d/changelog must have only 'Initial release (Closes: #731278)'. Ok, I suppose the changes I was mentioning in the changelog are to be put in the README.source. d/copyright: I suggest you put all licenses grouped at the end of the file. This will provide a better organization. Thank you, I wasn't even hoping such a thing could be DEP-5 compliant, but it is mentioned in section Stand-alone License Paragraph (Optional, Repeatable) I'm so unused to good standards… d/docs: remove AUTHORS. The authors must be put in d/copyright only. Ok. d/patches: replicate d/changelog parts in patches headers is unusual. Please, fix this. Ok (that's dpkg-source --commit works, I assumed it was good practice since the patches are related to the content of the changelog). But it indeed doesn't make much sense since there are other fields to add details into the patch. d/patches/copyright: is unusual fix the copyright notices in upstream code. I suggest to remove it. Ok. Anyway, the patch has been forwarded upstream, who told me he'll try to apply it ASAP. d/README.source: must be used to list modifications that you made, definitely, in the upstream source code. So that doesn't include patches or does it? d/rules: remove the unecessary comments, as '# -*- makefile -*-', '# Uncomment this to turn on verbose mode.' and '# This has to be exported to make some magic below work.'. I also suggest you add '--parallel' to 'dh $@'. Ok. Building, I can see some lintian warnings. Please, see http://eriberto.pro.br/blog/?p=1289 I've seen the remaining I and P issues (I'm always running lintian on both the source and the binary with options --pedantic --show-overrides --display-info --display-experimental --color auto -i): - one P about upstream changelog missing. I could try to dump git log« of his repository, but would that make the package better? - one P about sources not being gpg-checkable. I'm afraid I can't do much here. Except maybe asking upstream to sign his tarballs… Wouldn't that be a bit pedantic for a project hosted by bitbucket? - two I about hardening-no-fortify-functions. I'm sure you have, as an apt dev, a better understanding than me of these problems so, now that I've reported my thoughts, I'll stop arguing and trust your decision :) No no no no no. Put that idea back into the trash bin there it belongs. Use a baseball bat if you have to, to keep it from popping up again! ;) Ok ok ok ok ok, will do :) Then using the I'll do everything I can without checking anything --force-yes option looks to me like we don't support removing essential packages anymore. Ah, now I see where are you coming from. My take is: Removing an essential package is in the same category as 'rm -rf /'. Very few people will ever need it for what it does, but many people (in comparison) will execute it by accident. rm invented the --preserve-root flag, APT has this silly question (and a flag) and starts to bug you to install this package again e.g. on dist-upgrade. I feel like this is in line with what the debian policy says: http://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-binary.html#s3.8 Thank you for recalling the Policy and explaining how the unfortunate essential flag on sysvinit led me to this situation. Now I understand your position better. Indeed Essential is more critical than I thought, and the --force-yes option makes more sense in this context, the operation being crossing the border. Thanks for taking your time to explain that, much appreciated. Best regards, -- captnfab -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#690985: installation-report: expert graphical install: wrong caption during grub install
Dear maintainer, This bug used to happen during expert {graphical,non-graphical} French install at the time of the report. It does not anymore. However, the same bug now happen (with Debian 7.2), during expert {graphical,non-graphical} {French,*US*} install, on the 'setuid man' window, where the title is now the popcon's one. I wonder if it's a new bug or if it's the same one that shifted (or if this bug was already there and I missed it). I'd like to underline that it happens both in the en_us and in the fr_fr cases (not tried any other). On my first report I had not performed any test on the US version, unfortunately. Bug#727680: apt: [l10n-fr] Confirmation sentence for replacing essential packages contains unidentifiable character
Package: apt Version: 0.9.12.1 Severity: normal Tags: patch l10n Dear Maintainer, * What led up to the situation? I tried to remove an essential package (namely sysvinit) for testing purposes (of upstart) with the following command: apt-get install upstart which asked me to type the following sentence to confirm the operation: Pour continuer, tapez la phrase « Oui, faites ce que je vous dis ! » (where the space before ! is an unbreakable space) * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or ineffective)? I entered Oui, faites ce que je vous dis ! (where the space is a normal space) * What was the outcome of this action? Confirmation sentence was refused. * What outcome did you expect instead? Confirmation sentence is accepted. I suggest one of the following solution: - remove the unbreakable space diff fr.po fr-new.po 660c660 msgstr Oui, faites ce que je vous dis ! --- msgstr Oui, faites ce que je vous dis! - replace it with a normal space diff fr.po fr-new2.po 660c660 msgstr Oui, faites ce que je vous dis ! --- msgstr Oui, faites ce que je vous dis ! The unbreakable space is typographically the right char, but few normal people are used to type it (or even know it's existence.) Using a normal space could disturb people used to do the right thing and type the unbreakable space. Removing the space is a workaround generally accepted when there is no available unbreakable space. -- System Information: Debian Release: jessie/sid APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'proposed-updates'), (500, 'oldstable-updates'), (500, 'oldstable-proposed-updates'), (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable'), (500, 'oldstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 3.11-1-amd64 (SMP w/8 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=fr_FR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) (ignored: LC_ALL set to fr_FR.UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages apt depends on: ii debian-archive-keyring 2012.4 ii gnupg 1.4.15-1.1 ii libapt-pkg4.12 0.9.12.1 ii libc6 2.17-93 ii libgcc1 1:4.8.2-1 ii libstdc++6 4.8.2-1 apt recommends no packages. Bug#602463: Update on the packaging
Hi, A reminder to myself and anyone who wishes to help with the packaging of lib clanlib2: I updated clanlib2 package for the last stable (2.x) release. The clanlib team is now working on a 3.x rewrite of the lib which is still in a beta stage this means that there shouldn't be any abi breakage anymore for the 2.x version :) and that the 2.3.7 version has been long tested. There are still some problems to fix - one of them being dealing with non-mmx2 arch, on whom the lib won't build (I still don't know how to deal with that - there is the question of the C++ symbols: it's such a mess, is it really a good idea to imbed the .symbols file? And finally, the soname problem,we currently use a lintian override, but I think we should rename the libs to remove caps and rewrite the version numbers in a standard way - there are other details that I should take care of next week… Feel free to discuss this with me (captnfab on #debian-games @ OFTC) Bye, -- fabien -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#633769: python-gtk2: crashes as soon as a call to set_events is done
Hi, Apparently, this is not a bug. - It's not specific to this package since it can be reproduced with the following C code: --- #include gtk/gtk.h #include gdk/gdk.h int main(int argc, char* argv[]) { gtk_init(argc, argv); GdkWindow* rootwin = gdk_get_default_root_window(); gdk_window_set_events(rootwin, GDK_BUTTON_PRESS_MASK); gtk_main(); return 0; } --- gcc -o test script.c -g $(pkg-config --libs gtk+-2.0 --cflags) ./test The program 'test' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadAccess (attempt to access private resource denied)'. (Details: serial 111 error_code 10 request_code 2 minor_code 0) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.) - This happens when the event we try to grab is already listened by a program (here, the window manager). The following raises no problem: Xephyr :3 DISPLAY=:3 ./test But the bug is reproduced with Xephyr :3 DISPLAY=:3 awesome DISPLAY=:3 ./test Where test is either the compiled C program or the following python code: --- #!/usr/bin/env python import gtk rootwin = gtk.gdk.get_default_root_window() rootwin.set_events(gtk.gdk.BUTTON_PRESS_MASK) gtk.main() --- Maybe this bug should be marked as done since it appears to be normal behaviour for gtk2 [1]. Unfortunately, at the same time, my spare time amount began to decrease dramatically :) And I was not able to pursue my task. Currently, last clanlib version is 2.3.5 [1], and the API does not seem to have changed a lot [2]. So, the question is, should we package the last stable 2.2 version, or the last released version?
