Bug#670097: gnome-shell: random hang causes data loss
On Mon, May 28, 2012 at 10:20 AM, Fabio Rosciano malmost...@gmail.comwrote: Package: gnome-shell Followup-For: Bug #670097 Hello everybody, after upgrading to gnome-shell 3.4.1-1 (from experimental) I don't seem to observe this behaviour anymore. I suggest you try upgrading and confirm if it fixes the problem for you as well. On a related note the window decoration is broken after the upgrade, but I reckon it's probably due to some mismatch of gnome components. Seems to work for me, but I still haven't run it for long. In my case after the upgrade the theme was changed from the default to Clearlooks, but decorations still work. Beware that while Gnome Shell 3.4 seems more stable, it's otherwise buggy (close session/shutdown doesn't work, it started stealing the Meta key from other apps again, corrupted text after suspend). Last time I read we shouldn't report bugs in experimental packages, so I'll refrain from complaining further :-)

Bug#587794: gnome3-session: Fails to start Gnome Shell when /apps/gnome-session/options/auto_save_session is true
Package: gnome3-session Version: 2.30.0-1 Severity: normal -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 I'm using gnome3-session as my log-in session, and Gnome Shell as my default WM. When I enable the saving of sessions with gnome-session-properties, the next time I log in, Gnome Shell won't load. If the option is disabled (and the old session removed), then Gnome Shell starts fine, but when I log out and back in the session is empty. - From what I could observe, when the session with saved applications comes back up, two instances of mutter are launched and they compete with each other. One is the raw WM, the other loads Gnome Shell. The raw one always win the race, and in the mean time gnome-session tries to launch mutter with Gnome Shell over and over, not realizing that it's futile. Workaround: open a console and run $ killall -9 gnome-shell mutter ; gnome-shell --replace I've set /desktop/gnome/session/required_components/windowmanager to gnome-wm and gnome-shell, both to no avail. I'm attaching the process list from a fresh session and one with saved applications (just gnome-shell). Same for the top of the .xsession-errors file. I'd love to put my workstation in sleep mode instead of power cycling it, but a bug in nVidia's driver (ack'd by upstream) causes significant performance drops on wake up from stand by, so that's not an option. - -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.34-1-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=es_AR.utf8, LC_CTYPE=es_AR.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages gnome3-session depends on: ii gconf22.28.1-3 GNOME configuration database syste ii gnome-session-bin 2.30.0-1 The GNOME Session Manager - Minima ii gnome-session-common 2.30.0-1 Common files for the GNOME session ii gnome-settings-daemon 2.30.1-1 daemon handling the GNOME session ii gnome-shell 2.29.0-3 graphical shell for the GNOME desk ii nautilus 2.30.1-1 file manager and graphical shell f ii policykit-1-gnome 0.96-2 GNOME authentication agent for Pol Versions of packages gnome3-session recommends: ii gnome-power-manager 2.30.1-1 power management tool for the GNOM Versions of packages gnome3-session suggests: ii desktop-base 5.0.5 common files for the Debian Deskto ii gnome-keyring 2.30.1-2 GNOME keyring services (daemon and pn gnome-user-guide none (no description available) - -- no debconf information -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.4.10 (GNU/Linux) iEYEARECAAYFAkwszcQACgkQ823633cP2P+dYACgnIwqmEnQrOZZR4gff8xaRs7O nEUAn2d2m+fvf8dwPtQsUr8zqpVrLTUE =sUfS -END PGP SIGNATURE- /bin/bash COMMAND gnome-power-manager gnome-pty-helper gnome-screensaver gnome-session --default-session-key /desktop/gnome/session/default_session3 --saved-session saved-session3 gnome-terminal --sm-client-id 10704ef72fc804756112780039141465400054810017 --sm-client-state-file /home/jkohen/.config/session-state/gnome-terminal-1278003923.desktop mutter --sm-client-id 10704ef72fc804756112780039035196750054810015 nautilus --sm-client-id 10704ef72fc804756112780039035223630054810016 --sm-client-state-file /home/jkohen/.config/session-state/nautilus-1278003923.desktop [nvidia-settings] defunct ps x /usr/bin/dbus-daemon --fork --print-pid 5 --print-address 9 --session /usr/bin/dbus-launch --exit-with-session /usr/bin/seahorse-agent --execute gnome3-session /usr/bin/gnome-keyring-daemon --daemonize --login /usr/bin/python /usr/bin/gnome-shell /usr/bin/seahorse-agent --execute gnome3-session /usr/bin/ssh-agent /usr/bin/dbus-launch --exit-with-session /usr/bin/seahorse-agent --execute gnome3-session /usr/lib/gnome-disk-utility/gdu-notification-daemon /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfs-afc-volume-monitor /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd-burn --spawner :1.3 /org/gtk/gvfs/exec_spaw/1 /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd-metadata /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd-trash --spawner :1.3 /org/gtk/gvfs/exec_spaw/0 /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfs-gdu-volume-monitor /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfs-gphoto2-volume-monitor /usr/lib/libgconf2-4/gconfd-2 /usr/lib/policykit-1-gnome/polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1 [Xsession] defunct /bin/bash COMMAND gnome-power-manager gnome-pty-helper gnome-screensaver gnome-session --default-session-key /desktop/gnome/session/default_session3 --saved-session saved-session3 mutter --mutter-plugins=libgnome-shell nautilus [nvidia-settings] defunct ps x /usr/bin/dbus-daemon --fork --print-pid 5 --print-address 9 --session /usr/bin/dbus-launch --exit-with-session /usr/bin/seahorse-agent --execute gnome3-session /usr/bin/gnome-keyring-daemon --daemonize --login /usr/bin/gnome-terminal -x /bin/sh -c cd
Bug#581418: Breaks some applications (fmit, Mass Effects)
As I mentioned upstream, it seems some unrelated package upgrade made this bug go away. I can't reproduce it at the moment, and it was 100% reproducible before. Adam, the bug you linked to is from last March. While it looks similar to the symptoms I'm seeing, I've been many times able to compile previous versions of the nVidia driver against recent kernel packages. Anyway, I'd appreciate it if you could tell me how to compile the package, assuming you've managed to. Thanks,

Bug#523923: Cron script already in the package
On Thu, Jan 7, 2010 at 10:11, Johan Walles johan.wal...@gmail.com wrote: reopen 523923 thanks 2010/1/7 Guillaume Delacour g...@iroqwa.org: Hello, the rsnapshot package already have a cron script (/etc/cron.d/rsnapshot), you only have to uncomment the lines to activate the jobs. That script is broken on systems like desktops that aren't up all the time. The daily, weekly and monthly snapshots are all taken at night, so if you have your system on during the day only you won't get anything but daily snapshots. My script works fine regardless of whether or not the system is constantly up. Johan's script has been very useful to me. I've been using it for months with no issues to report. If you're not satisfied with the added dependency, please consider at least its functionality. Maybe you could get by with suggesting Ruby instead of having a strong dependency, given that the user has to take an explicit action to activate the jobs, as you said.
Bug#562519: ack-grep: Path auto-completion adds extra space after slash
Package: ack-grep Version: 1.92-1 Severity: normal Tags: patch -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 The bash auto-completion bundled with ack-grep adds an extra space after the slash. E.g., if _ is the cursor: $ ack-grep foo /home_tab results in $ ack-grep foo /home/ _ This means that pressing tab again will give auto-complete options from the current working directory instead of /home/. Compare with the auto-completion for ls: $ ls /ho_tab $ ls /home/_ Apparently the fix is as simple as changing the two lines at the bottom for this: complete -F _ack $filenames ack complete -F _ack $filenames ack-grep And then: $ source /etc/bash_completion However before I found that simple solution I spent some time cleaning up this file and I ended up with the attached file. I believe it works as the previous one, if not better, but this is the second time I play with Bash auto-completion, so I cannot be sure. I based my changes on /etc/bash_completion.d/findutils and the completion for ls, rmdir, etc in /etc/bash_completion. One small advantage of my version is that when Bash shows the alternative completions for a directory it only shows one slash at the end, where the current version (with the $filenames fix) shows two, which works but looks ugly. E.g., mine: $ ack-grep foo /etc/tab acpi// group- papersize Current: /etc/acpi /etc/localtime Note that my proposed version shows relative paths, which saves screen state. - -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-trunk-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=es_AR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=es_AR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages ack-grep depends on: ii libfile-next-perl 1.06-1 file-finding iterator ii perl 5.10.1-8 Larry Wall's Practical Extraction ack-grep recommends no packages. It's definitely a packaging issue, and I think it has something to do with python-support triggers. I'll look at it more tonight or tomorrow and get back to you. (A hackish temporary fix would be to kill /usr/lib/pymodules/python2.5/quodlibet/plugins/editing/__init__.py* and /usr/lib/pymodules/python2.5/quodlibet/plugins/songsmenu/__init__.py*.) It seems to not occur sometimes depending on what packages out of exfalso, quodlibet, quodlibet-plugins, and quodlibet-ext are installed, which might explain why no one else has reported this yet. For what it's worth, I just came back from a weekend trip, I upgraded all four packages to the latest version, and I'm seeing this now. However, I didn't want to report this when David had already reported it. Thanks for promptly looking into this,

I wouldn't know what component is ultimately responsible for this behavior, so please forward the bug to it, if necessary. - -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (x86_64) Kernel: Linux 2.6.29-1-amd64 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=es_AR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=es_AR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages gnome-applets depends on: ii gconf2 2.26.0-1GNOME configuration database syste ii gnome-applet 2.24.3.1-2 Various applets for GNOME 2 panel ii gnome-icon-t 2.24.0-4GNOME Desktop icon theme ii gnome-panel 2.24.3-1+b1 launcher and docking facility for ii gstreamer0.1 0.10.22-5 GStreamer plugin for ALSA ii gstreamer0.1 0.10.11-2 GStreamer plugins from the bad s ii gstreamer0.1 0.10.14-2 GStreamer plugins from the good ii gvfs 1.0.3-4 userspace virtual filesystem - ser ii libapm1 3.2.2-12Library for interacting with APM d ii libatk1.0-0 1.26.0-1The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libbonoboui2 2.24.1-1The Bonobo UI library ii libc62.9-7 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libcpufreq0 004-2 shared library to deal with the cp ii libdbus-1-3 1.2.12-1simple interprocess messaging syst ii libdbus-glib 0.80-3 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libgconf2-4 2.26.0-1GNOME configuration database syste ii libglib2.0-0 2.20.1-1The GLib library of C routines ii libgnome-des 2.26.1-1Utility library for loading .deskt ii libgnome2-0 2.24.1-2The GNOME 2 library - runtime file ii libgnomekbd3 2.24.0-3GNOME library to manage keyboard c ii libgnomeui-0 2.24.1-1The GNOME 2 libraries (User Interf ii libgstreamer 0.10.22-5 GStreamer libraries from the base ii libgstreamer 0.10.22-3 Core GStreamer libraries and eleme ii libgtk2.0-0 2.16.1-2The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libgtop2-7 2.24.3-1gtop system monitoring library ii libgucharmap 1:2.24.3-1 Unicode browser widget library (sh ii libgweather1 2.24.3-1GWeather shared library ii libhal1 0.5.12~git20090406.46dc48-2 Hardware Abstraction Layer - share ii libnotify1 [ 0.4.5-1 sends desktop notifications to a n ii liboobs-1-4 2.22.0-2GObject based interface to system- ii libpanel-app 2.24.3-1+b1 library for GNOME Panel applets ii libpango1.0- 1.24.0-3+b1 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libpolkit-db 0.9-3 library for accessing PolicyKit vi ii libpolkit2 0.9-3 library for accessing PolicyKit ii libwnck222.24.2-2Window Navigator Construction Kit hi libx11-6 2:1.2.1-1 X11 client-side library ii libxklavier1 3.9-1 X Keyboard Extension high-level AP ii libxml2 2.7.3.dfsg-1GNOME XML library ii python 2.5.4-2 An interactive high-level object-o Versions of packages gnome-applets recommends: ii cpufrequtils 004-2 utilities to deal with the cpufreq pn deskbar-appletnone (no description available) ii gnome-media 2.24.0.1-3 GNOME media utilities pn gnome-netstatus-appletnone (no description available) ii gnome-system-monitor 2.24.4-1 Process viewer and system resource ii policykit-gnome 0.9.2-1GNOME dialogs for PolicyKit ii python-gnome2 2.22.3-3 Python bindings for the GNOME desk Versions of packages gnome-applets suggests: ii acpid 1.0.8-8Utilities for using ACPI power man ii tomboy
Bug#433656: evolution: Invalid memory reference

The old and new values were Monospace 10 (in other words, the value didn't change). Evolution crashed as soon as I triggered that action. Its window was in a different workspace, so no direct user interaction took place. Does this still happen in recent evo in unstable and/or experimental. It seems that there were quite a few reports about “invalid memory reference” around 2.10.1 time. So maybe it was something related to the lib states at that time. To be honest I don't know. I migrated away from Evolution about a year ago, and I don't remember anything related to this issue. I guess you can close it. Thanks a lot!
Bug#487927: liferea: uses 100% CPU, but stays usable, crashes at shutdown
El lun, 30-06-2008 a las 21:35 +0300, Heikki Hokkanen escribió: Hello, I started seeing this as well after upgrading to Liferea 1.4.16b-0.1 yesterday. I'm not sure if the bug needs interactive use to trigger, but at least it keeps consuming all cpu it can get until it is closed (I can see 8h+ full CPU use from graphs). However, I didn't notice a crash happening when quitting Liferea, so maybe that's a different bug? I see the crash only when I force Liferea to quit, since sometimes it takes a while to shutdown when in this state where it uses 100% CPU and my patience has limits ;-) If I let it shut itself down the crash doesn't occur. Off-topic cheap plug: I've since migrated to Google Reader, since I got tired of Liferea's bugs and slow behavior, and I can say it rocks. Migrating is trivial, since you can import the list of feeds. signature.asc Description: Esta parte del mensaje está firmada digitalmente
Bug#487765: quodlibet: Unrated songs should have a 0 rank not 0.5 (2 notes)
I fail to see why 0 is better than 0.5 as a magic value, while 0.5 might be a more statistically correct estimation (assuming you like the songs in your collection uniformly ;-) ). Bug#461318: The entry is misplaced
I thought I had seen this bug, but it seems that the entry is actually created, but placed under the wrong menu. In my case I was adding jUploadr to the Graphics menu (I'm translating from Spanish, so it might actually be called something else in English). I then noticed that it had been added to the Graphics menu under the Debian menu hierarchy. Simply dragging the entry and dropping it in the menu I originally intended it to be worked around the issue for me. Package: libgtk2.0-0 Version: 2.12.5-1 Severity: important -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 I just upgraded from libgtk 2.12.3-2 and some applications broke. I still get the reconnect dialog after cleanly disconnecting from a VNC host. Could you please explain further cleanly disconnecting ? I cannot reproduce it here (F8 - quit viewer does not bring up the reconnect dialog, and closing the vnc client windows does not bring it either). To bring up the reconnect dialog, I have to kill the vncviewer process (not exactly a clean disconnect ;) ). Both those actions yield the reconnect dialog here. Like I said in my original report, the details window shows VNCviewer's output to stdout, as if it were an error message. Bug#436337: gstreamer0.10-plugins-base: I see this problem after upgrade to 0.10.15-1
Package: gstreamer0.10-plugins-base Version: 0.10.15-1 Followup-For: Bug #436337 -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Curiously, I started seeing the problem detailed in the OP after upgrading to version 0.10.15-1 of this package. If I downgrade to 0.10.14-4, the symptoms go away. I can still reproduce the problem if I upgrade the package again. I believe that this, as well as another regression someone just reported regarding to not being able to play MP3s (which I can confirm), is a good reason to mark this version of this package as pretty broken. Things like Live and Acoustic Version shouldn't be part of the title at all, but go in their own tag, version or some such. That's right, but it's still a valid observation. El vie, 02-11-2007 a las 18:35 +0100, Erich Schubert escribió: Package: exfalso Version: 1.0-1 Severity: normal Tags: Patch I'm not very happy with the included Title-Case function of exfalso/quodlibet. For example, (test) is not being title-cased properly, since the t isn't preceded by a space. I'm attaching a version of title that uses the unicodedata module to find word boundaries as an alternative approach. I included some tests, which show that both Unicode and 8-bit strings are handled correctly according to Unicode rules (which for Python might or might not consider the current locale, I'm not sure, to be honest). At least it works for your example. It would be great if Python exported Unicode properties such as Word-Break, but it doesn't... so it's a bit of a hack, but it seems to work better than the current algorithm. Feel free to bring more test cases to my attention. By the way, Python's Unicode support is broken. Capitalization of ß yields ß, whereas Unicode defines it according to German spelling as SS (see the first entry in SpecialCasing.txt). Disclaimer: title casing in QL and Python is oriented towards English language (and others, by coincidence). Spanish, for instance, uses lower case for titles, except on the first word and personal names. Bug#449054: exfalso: Better TitleCase function
By Erich's request, here is a version of my previous function where the apostrophe is only special cased when in the middle of a word, so that it can still used as quotes. This usage, although syntactically incorrect now that we have Unicode, is very popular. El sáb, 03-11-2007 a las 17:46 +0100, Erich Schubert escribió: Javier mentioned that some languages usually don't uppercase everything - well, these users just shouldn't use the Title-case function. There is no way to reliably Titlecase personal names automatically. They might want a uppercase first letter option though. That's exactly why I mentioned it. Some people love to uppercase everything in any language and I usually find myself fixing it by hand. Ignoring proper names, the conversion is trivial (s[0].upper() + s[1:].lower() will do it), but I was a bit lazy to actually write the plug-in... I didn't read any of the unicode standards. Does it actually suggest to substitute it with SS, or is it just for displaying? To be honest, I haven't read them either. The file I mentioned also contains uppercase mapping for lowercase Latin ligatures, Greek and Turkish letters, among others. I seem to recall reading that the case with the dotless Turkish i is a common problem, because its transformation conflicts with the ASCII mapping i - I and I - i (apparently in Turkish it's uc(i) == İ and lc(I) == ı), so you have to rely on the locale to know what to do. In anyway, I don't think that we need to go out of our way to handle that. Python should respect the environment's locale, and if not, it should be fixed there. Some people love to uppercase everything in any language and I usually find myself fixing it by hand. Ignoring proper names, the conversion is trivial (s[0].upper() + s[1:].lower() will do it), but I was a bit lazy to actually write the plug-in... That is slightly different from what I had in mind: it actively lowercases anything else, ignoring potential proper names. I'd have offered s[0].upper() + s[1:] as an option. Your option does make sense though, maybe as Remove Title Case (I.e. automatically uppercase the first character, leave the rest alone. For example, a song might be titled für Elise. In that situation, it should be transformed to Für Elise. Another example is abbreviations. JD's blues for example should be left unchanged. What I wrote is exactly what I had in mind. Unlike in German, uppercase words in languages such as Spanish, French or Norwegian, to name a few, are very scarce except at the beginning of the sentence, and title-case in those languages, like in German, follows the regular spelling rules. Another thing my titlecase function did that yours doesn't is process all-uppercase strings. I'm aware that occasionally you'll have a track titled TLA that shouldn't be converted to Tla. But a very common bad title is EXAMPLE TRACK TITLE, where I'd like to have an easy way to make that into Example Track Title. My code only attempts to fix faults in QL's current algorithm, which by design never removes upper case. Your suggestion is trivial to implement (actually you only have to remove code), but I did not have an argument to justify the change. We could add some heuristics, such as if everything is uppercase, then apply lowercase first, otherwise honor existing uppercase in the string. What do you think? I'm attaching a new version of my function that does that. Speaking of which, did anyone manage to get the re.LOCALE flag to work? I've yet to see a proper way of using that... I don't know if Python supports Unicode categories in its Regular Expression. Maybe you should try that (e.g. \P{L}) instead of \W, since \W is only defined over the ASCII range, as you found out. In that case, I'm guessing that you won't need that flag (although, to be honest, not having read the documentation I don't know what it's supposed to do). I think this might be related to bug #445616, which I'm also experiencing. - -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.23 Locale: LANG=es_AR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=es_AR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Versions of packages gnome-session depends on: ii gconf2 2.20.0-1 GNOME configuration database syste ii gnome-control-center1:2.20.0.1-1 utilities to configure the GNOME d ii libatk1.0-0 1.20.0-1 The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libbonobo2-02.20.0-1 Bonobo CORBA interfaces library ii libc6 2.6.1-5 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libdbus-1-3 1.1.1-3 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libdbus-glib-1-20.74-1 simple interprocess messaging syst ii libgconf2-4 2.20.0-1 GNOME configuration database syste ii libglib2.0-02.14.1-2 The GLib library of C routines ii libgnome-keyring0 2.20.0-3 GNOME keyring services library ii libgnome2-0 2.20.0-1 The GNOME 2 library - runtime file ii libgnomeui-02.20.0-1 The GNOME 2 libraries (User Interf ii libgtk2.0-0 2.12.0-2 The GTK+ graphical user interface hi libice6 2:1.0.4-1X11 Inter-Client Exchange library ii liborbit2 1:2.14.7-0.1 libraries for ORBit2 - a CORBA ORB ii libpango1.0-0 1.18.2-1 Layout and rendering of internatio hi libsm6 2:1.0.3-1+b1 X11 Session Management library ii libwrap07.6.dbs-14 Wietse Venema's TCP wrappers libra hi libx11-62:1.0.3-7X11 client-side library ii libxau6 1:1.0.3-2X11 authorisation library ii libxrandr2 2:1.2.2-1X11 RandR extension library Versions of packages gnome-session recommends: ii dbus 1.1.1-3simple interprocess messaging syst ii desktop-base 4.0.3 common files for the Debian Deskto ii gnome-panel 2.20.0.1-1 launcher and docking facility for ii metacity 1:2.20.0-1 A lightweight GTK2 based Window Ma ii nautilus 2.20.0-1 file manager and graphical shell f - -- no debconf information -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.4.6 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFHE2ne823633cP2P8RAutcAJ9ceLGQzJEBucearMItx15zjDFKQACfYmYK /0Gush7vxt4LS3xdQpmyG9c= =1lUX -END PGP SIGNATURE- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#445947: Quotes in gdm.conf break configuration after upgrade
Package: gdm Version: 2.20.0-2 Severity: important -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 After upgrading to this version I noticed that GDM was failing to restart. The culprit was a configuration line in the servers section of gdm.conf. The previous version of gdmsetup had created the following entry: 0=Standard -layout \Single LVDS\ However, the latest version of GDM was choking on the space. Removing the backslashes before the quotes solved the issue. I set the severity to important because this breaks perfectly working setups created with the bundled configuration utility. I'm curious, given that this package has Evo's version hard-coded in the plug-in's path name, shouldn't you use a versioned dependency on Evo? I think that would solve both issues. Namely, some of us having a broken package installed and you having to check periodically to see whether Evo has propagated to all architectures, since the this package would get built for those architectures once the build dependency can be satisfied (in other words, when Evo 2.12 becomes available there). Bug#443820: Acknowledgement (bug-buddy: Breakpad crashes Eclipse)
It seems that there is a more general bad interaction between this module and Sun's JVM. Visiting this website (http://www.albartus.com/motas/) with the Epiphany browser and clicking on ENTER MOTAS causes Epiphany to crashonce the game finishes loading, with a back trace pointing to the JVM. Unsetting GTK_MODULES prevents the crash. This crash may or may not be reproducible without the Flash plug-in from Debian/unstable, since this is a Flash game. However, I think that the chat applet at the bottom is what is causing Java to be loaded. -- Javier Kohen [EMAIL PROTECTED] ICQ: blashyrkh #2361802 Jabber: [EMAIL PROTECTED] signature.asc Description: Esta parte del mensaje está firmada digitalmente
Bug#443820: bug-buddy: Breakpad crashes Eclipse
Package: bug-buddy Version: 2.20.0-3 Severity: important -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 It seems than gnomebreakpad crashes upstream Eclipse 3.3 when running with Sun's JDK 1.6.0 update 2 as found in Debian/unstable. Disabling the loading of gnomebreakpad.so by unsetting GTK_MODULES allows me to use Eclipse. Otherwise it crashes at the splash screen (not always at the same point). Note that GTK_MODULES only contains gnomebreakpad in this system. I'm attaching Bug Buddy's report, in case it helps. For what is worth, I noticed that running /opt/eclipse-3.3/eclipse under gdb was a futile exercise, since Bug Buddy would catch the error and not pass it down to gdb. I don't know if this is a problem confined to Eclipse's splash screen or Bug Buddy's fault, but it's confusing and I couldn't find any reference to it or GTK_MODULES in Bug Buddy's Debian documentation. Bug#443389: libgtk2.0-0: Crashes cancelling search in file open dialog
Package: libgtk2.0-0 Version: 2.12.0-2 Severity: normal -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 The new GTK+ file open dialog provides a search feature. In my case I don't have trackerd installed, so I guess it crawls the disk when I enter some term (it certainly does some trashing about). However, if I close the dialog before this operation is complete, it crashes the application. I have reproduced this by clicking on the dialog's Cancel button and by hitting escape. I've seen this behavior both in Epiphany and Emacs, and I haven't tried in other applications. Bug#442963: xserver-xorg-input-kbd: order matters when pressing Ctrl + Alt

I added ctrl:swapcaps to my config, downgraded xserver-xorg-core and drivers to testing, downgraded xkb-data to stable. Then I upgraded them one at a time up to current unstable, I haven't been able to notice any difference when playing with ctrl and alt in xkbwatch. Could you please clarify what you are exactly seeing when doing what in xkbwatch with current testing (your old working setup) and current unstable (broken)? Also, are you using the right ctrl or the left one, when trying to use ctrl+alt? Left control (which has been mapped to caps-lock by ctrl:swapcaps) and left alt. This is a laptop. It has two controls and two alts. Right alt works as compose. Left control suffers this problem, right control does not (I hadn't tried until now). The problem as seen from xkbwatch with unstable is: 1) a. press left control - 6th row turns on b. press left alt - nothing happens (6th row is still on) c. release all keys 2) a. press right control - 6th row turns on b. press left alt - 5th row turns on (6th row is still on) c. release all keys 3) a. press left alt - 5th row turns on b. press left control - 6th row turns on (5th row is still on) c. release all keys 4) a. press left alt - 5th row turns on b. press right control - 6th row turns on (5th row is still on) c. release all keys The only difference is that in my old setup the nothing happens in test 1 was a 5th row turns on. That is the method I always use to activate C-A combinations. I hope this makes things clear. I tried your whole keyboard config (except pc104), including the dvorak layout (which gives me a headache :)), but I still get 5th row turns on in current unstable :( For the record I had tried a couple random keyboard layouts as well. They didn't seem to make any difference. I guess this will go away eventually. Thanks a lot for your time, I appreciate it a lot. Package: xserver-xorg-input-kbd Version: 1:1.2.2-3 Severity: normal -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Since I upgraded to this version from the one corresponding to X.org 7.2, I noted that pressing Ctrl-Alt-key in this order was not working as before, it only took the Ctrl into account. Bug#438126: libgpod2: Crashes with semi-corrupted input
Package: libgpod2 Version: 0.5.2-2 Severity: normal Tags: patch -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Somehow my artwork database got slightly corrupted, which was causing crashes inlibgpod. I tracked the issue and fixed it with the attached patch. The code expected a filename in the form :Thumb:F%d_%d.itmb or something similar, but because the stored filename was somehow corrupted, all it was getting was :F%d_%d_.itmb, which caused strchr to return 0, thus resulting in a bogus pointer being passed down to itdb_get_path. I have written a patch for this issue. What do you think? It should work, but it changes the way of configuring this with respect to older versions of the Tomcat package. I checked the bundled docs and ran a few searches on google.com but I still don't know what writing method it uses and whether multi session discs are detected, correctly processed and generated. Of course I didn't check the code, but I'd rather stick to the command line tools than read the source of a small GNOME application to find out what it does :-) Unfortunately others can't do either easily. Hi, I wonder where you feel this information belong? Putting it in the package description would mean that it would show up if you search for multi session writing (and would probably end up making people angry when they found out it's NOT supported), putting it in a README inside the package seems kinda moot as you must install it to read it. I guess this belongs on a web site, but n-c-b does not have one. (Also, do you still care about this bug?, seeing as it's almost three years old ;-) To be honest, I care insofar that I haven't used this application at all because I still don't know whether it supports multi-session or not. However, you just answered my question :) I think that maybe the documentation should be added upstream and not on the package description or the README, for the same reasons you detailed. Bug#432950: xserver-xorg-core: GoogleEarth causes X to crash with signal 11
Package: xserver-xorg-core Version: 2:1.3.0.0.dfsg-7 Severity: normal -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 X crashes with the following error message when Google Earth loads (I'm not certain exactly when this happens, I think as soon as the first 3D view is about to appear): (**) RADEON(0): RADEONSaveScreen(2) ProcXCloseDevice to close or not ? Server aborting I've upgraded Google Earth, it still produces the same effect. I used to be able to run it with X.org 1.1 or 1.2 (I don't remember) and the exact same X.org configuration (I haven't changed it since I moved from fglrx to the radeon driver 6 months ago), but one day it stopped working. I don't use it frequently, so it could have been anything. I modified the information below to include the log from the crashed session instead of the current one. Note that I have installed a large assortment of -dbg packages including, but not restricted to: xserver-xorg-core-dbg, libgl1-mesa-glx-dbg, libgl1-mesa-dri-dbg. However, none of these seem to help filling up the symbols in the backtrace. My video card doesn't currently support DRI: the fglrx official driver used to support it but it broke and I read that although X.org has a DRI-enabled driver in the latest development branch, it is still pretty much broken. For what it's worth, glxgears runs fine without crashing anything. Let me know if there is anything I can add to make this report more useful. Bug#432950: xserver-xorg-core: GoogleEarth causes X to crash with signal 11
El vie, 13-07-2007 a las 17:59 +0200, Brice Goglin escribió: Some symbol names are missing in this backtrace (near libglx.so). Could you get something better by logging in the machine with ssh before the crash and attachint gdb with: gdb -p $(pidof X) Then you enter 'bt full' when the crash occurs. It would nice to do that after instead xserver-xorg-core-dbg so that we get a full debugging calltrace. I solved without resorting to ssh (as that was not an option for me here) with the following magic command-line: # gdb -p $(pidof X) -batch -ex 'handle all nostop' -ex 'handle all pass' -ex 'handle 11 stop' -ex 'cont' -ex 'bt full' -ex 'cont' In any case, either your suggestion or mine have to be run as root.
