Bug#1071755: RFS: open62541/1.4.2-1 [ITP] -- open62541 () is an open source implementation

2024-07-29 Thread Julius Pfrommer
Soren,

The upstream sources come with *two* tarballs.
The nodeset tarball (with XML files) is from [1].
In the upstream open62541 project we use a git submodule for the nodeset.
For the Debian packaging we instead have a second tarball for the exact commit
of the git submodule [2].

- open62541_1.4.3.orig.tar.gz
- open62541_1.4.3.orig-nodeset.tar.gz

Both tarballs have been pushed to mentors.
The manual build should work, provided you also give it the second
nodeset-tarball.

The pristine-tar branch was created as follows:

gbp pristine-tar commit --component=nodeset ../open62541_1.4.3.orig.tar.gz
-v

The verbose output is included down below the fold.

Probably I did not redo the pristine-tar after the latest commit to main
(changing the Vcs-Git tag, no changes outside of /debian).
Rerunning the gbp pristine-tar command just now added more git-commits.
They are pushed to salsa on top of the pristine-tar branch.

With this I can run

gbp buildpackage --git-debian-branch=main

on my box without an error.

Soren and Phil,

Thanks for the guidance.

Salsa:
The Debian files are now on Salsa: https://salsa.debian.org/jpfr/open62541
The package source is in the main branch, the upstream sources are in
"upstream" and the matching "pristine-tar" branch.

Vcs-Tags:
The Vcs-* tags now point to the Salsa repository.

Typos:
The remaining typos come from the XML files [1] that are release as part of the
ISO 62541 standard.
We will raise the typos within the OPC Foundation. (Not that this is *not* the
open62541 upstream.)

That would be great. The package is ready from our point.
We will of course make the necessary improvements and fixes going forward.

2024-07-26 Thread Julius Pfrommer
Phil,

Thanks for the review and the quick response.

A new version #13 is now on mentors.
This is based on the new upstream release v1.4.3.

1. Typos
The mentioned typos in our code have been fixed.
The remaining typos are imported from dependencies (XML files from the IEC
62541 standard).

2. The standards version is now 4.7.0

3. We now use debhelper-compat (= 13) and have removed the compats file

Thus all points from your review have been considered.
Thank you for taking another look.

We just released v1.4.2 of the library in the upstream.
The #10 push to mentors was updated to v1.4.2 and resolves the SONAME issue
that was discussed prior.

Please consider this version to be included in Debian unstable.

Got it. Then we install the patches proposed for the Debian package into the

This will take a few weeks.

The upstream currently produces libopen62541.so.1.

In order to allow the parallel installation of multiple versions it is better
to have libopen62541.so.1.4.
So a future version v1.5 gets libopen62541.so.1.5.

The installed shared objects (and symbolic links) are now as follows.

libopen62541.so -> libopen62541.so.1.4
libopen62541.so.1.4 -> libopen62541.so.1.4.1
libopen62541.so.1.4.1

If this is acceptable we will change the upstream to always produce
libopen62541.so.{major}.{minor} as the SONAME.
This will take a few weeks until the next upstream minor release. The
Debian-specific patch can then be removed.

If you prefer a different SONAME and filename convention, just let me know.

The intent was to do the SONAME patching entirely in the rules file.
Now we instead ship a small patch to the upstream CMakeLists.txt that modifies
the linker flags.

I removed the Vcs-* fields for now.

I intend to orphan the dnshistory package.

The package has had no upstream for many years. It is outdated and recently got
removed from testing. It should be considered for removal from Debian.

The package description is:
 Provide a means for storing a history of DNS/Name changes for the IP Addresses
 extracted from web log files. The major target being that multiple analyses of
 older log files do not require re-lookups of IP Address to FQDNs, and
 additionally maintain the accuracy of the lookup as it was then and not as it

Bug#910631: lightdm: first login hangs waiting for user-generated entropy

2018-10-12 Thread Dr. Julius
Manually downgrading a few hundred packages one-by-one and rebooting each
time was not an option so here's what I did:

1. Replaced the ExecStart line in lightdm.service by:
ExecStart=/usr/bin/strace -fty -P /dev/random -P /dev/urandom -o
/var/log/lightdm/strace.log /usr/sbin/lightdm

2. Using a combination of the strace log and atop, found a suspicious (long
running) access to /dev/random by a child process of gnome-keyring-deamon

3. Uninstalled the gnome-keyring package

4. The issue disappeared...

So AFAICT, it seems that this issue is caused by gnome-keyring making
blocking calls to the RNG.
Possibly here

?

What's weird is that the gnome-keyring package was not affected by the
dist-upgrade, so the behavior may have been triggered by a change in
another package...

Bug#864599: python-minimal: pyclean, pycompile and pyversions: Error when /usr/bin/python is python3

Why not? Can there be no legitimate reason for wanting python3 to be
the default python?

This is not the point. Debconf's install script is apparently using
them and they fail if python3 is the default. This makes debconf
uninstallable. I don't think this is a bug in debconf.

python-policy 2.4.1 says:

"Python scripts that require the default Python 2 version should specify
python2 as the interpreter name."

While that does not say "must" it is still a strong recommendation. And
I would also consider that good practice - especially if the fix is so easy.

So while this is no policy violation, to me it is more than a "nice to
have". But, I will leave it up to you to decide on the proper severity.

Bug#864599: python-minimal: pyclean, pycompile and pyversions: Error when /usr/bin/python is python3

2017-06-11 Thread Matthias Julius
Package: python-minimal
Version: 2.7.13-2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

After setting /usr/bin/python to point to python3 via alternatives the
next update of debconf failed with:

  File "/usr/bin/pyclean", line 63
except (IOError, OSError), e:
 ^
SyntaxError: invalid syntax

and

  File "/usr/bin/pycompile", line 35, in
from debpython.version import SUPPORTED, debsorted, vrepr, \
  File "/usr/share/python/debpython/version.py", line 24, in
from ConfigParser import SafeConfigParser
ImportError: No module named 'ConfigParser'

pyversions also fails with:

  File "/usr/bin/pyversions", line 20
except IOError, msg:
  ^
SyntaxError: invalid syntax

Changing the first line of all scripts to

#! /usr/bin/python2

helped. They are apparently not compatible with python3.

Best regards,
Matthias

Bug#818702: Old mscompress already has msexpand

2016-11-13 Thread Julius Schwartzenberg
I just discovered that there's an old package already called mscompress
which contains an msexpand binary. This binary seems to support fewer
formats than the one from libmspack though.

Notably MS-DOS 6.22 files cannot be extracted by the binary from the
mscompress package. Fedora also uses expand from libmspack to provide
the msexpand binary instead of mscompress.

My suggestion would be to remove the mscompress package and replace it
with the binaries from libmspack.

Hi,

Bug#818702: libmspack0: Binary utilities like expand are not packaged.

2016-03-19 Thread Julius Schwartzenberg
Package: libmspack0
Version: 0.4-1
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
A need to decompress files compressed with Microsoft's compress utility.

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
I searched for packages which replace the functionality of the MS DOS expand
program.

   * What was the outcome of this action?
That Debian included a library which supports this functionality, but there is
no binary included to make use of it.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
That the binaries for this are packaged as well. Upstream includes them, but
confusingly puts them in a test subdirectory.

- output is attached to this message. Note that I moved the debugging over
to another host to avoid disclosure of internal paths etc.. The issue is still
reproducible in the very same manner.

While I generally agree to your hint, lvm2 in particular seems to be as
version 2.02.111-2.2 in all of stable, testing and unstable. Since both
libdevmapper* and the binary lvm2 administration tools should have the same
version in testing/unstable, I decided not to upgrade and test again.

I'm pretty sure that the issue is related to the regex expansion, since a
fixed string comparision ('=') works fine:

sh# lvs vm --select 'lv_name = test.img' --unbuffered || echo $?
  LV VG Attr LSize Pool Origin Data% Meta% Move Log Cpy%Sync
Convert
  test.img vm   -wi-a- 8.00g

sh#

Also, the output does always consist of two lines plus header, before the
segfault occurs. I can confirm this on another host.

It is important to have at least four LVs inside a VG, this will trigger the
segfault. Having exactly three LVs does not segfault, but causes _wrong_
output (the last entry does not get displayed).

Please tell me if/how I can help to further debug this issue.

Cheers,

Julius

Bug#788565: xserver-xorg-video-intel: hung render ring after suspend causes garbled X redraws

2015-06-15 Thread Julius Plenz
Hi, Julien!

* Julien Cristau  [2015-06-14 04:16]:
> Does this also happen with a newer kernel?

Thank you for pointing me in this direction. I compiled the current kernel
version v4.1-rc8 from source earlier, and the problem is gone there.

FWIW, when closing the laptop’s lid now the system doesn’t suspend
operation, and the following error message appears in the kernel log:

i915 :00:02.0: BAR 6: [??? 0x flags 0x2] has bogus alignment

However, suspending via "systemctl suspend" works well.

Bug#788565: xserver-xorg-video-intel: hung render ring after suspend causes garbled X redraws

2015-06-12 Thread Julius Plenz
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel
Version: 2:2.99.917-1
Severity: important

Hi,

How to reproduce: Suspend the machine (e.g. by running "systemctl
suspend"). When the system is woken up again, the graphics display is
stuck for about 5 seconds, and any subsequent redraws of urxvt windows
is completely garbled, GTK applications are just filled rectangles of
gray or black.

I’m using the "intel" X driver with the (default) SNA accelleration
method. Switching to UXA instead fixes the garbled graphics problem,
but after a suspend/wakeup cycle, accelleration is not working at all
any more, so this is not a real fix.

The important part from the Kernel log:

[18964.460761] [drm] stuck on render ring
[18964.462418] [drm] GPU HANG: ecode 0:0x01dff88b, in Xorg [18341], reason:
Ring hung, action: reset
[18966.462759] [drm] Enabling RC6 states: RC6 on, RC6p off, RC6pp off

There is an easy workaround I discovered while playing around. As soon
as you run "glxgears" for a few seconds and quit it, then possibly
switch workspaces to force a complete screen redraw, all corruptions
are gone and don’t return until the next suspend. If you suspend while
"glxgears" is running, no GPU hang and no screen corruption occurs.

I’m running Debian unstable on a Thinkpad X1 Carbon (3rd gen, model
20BS).

Bug#774526: linux-image-3.2.0-4-amd64: system crash with sudden reboot when hotplugging a CPU - suspend functionality broken

2015-01-03 Thread Julius
Package: src:linux
Version: 3.2.65-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

please note that not all information that are automatically included
here represent the state of the system at the observation of the bug.
Details at the end of my explanation. I am sorry for that.

   * What led up to the situation?
==

Via the proposed updates I upgraded the package
linux-image-3.2.0-4-amd64 and headers to 3.2.65-1. After that, my
system did not wake up from suspend as usual. Instead, it booted as
if it had crashed (short filesystem check and raid resync).

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
==

After experiencing the broken suspend functionality multiple times,
here is what I tried to investigate the problem.

I did some hibernation tests using /sys/power/pm_test as described in
https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/power/basic-pm-debugging.txt
and found that the processor test (enabling/disabling cores) is the
first that is failing, i.e., leading to a sudden reboot. To confirm
the CPU issue I manually tested that individually:

# cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep processor
processor   : 0
processor   : 1
# echo 0 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu1/online
# cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep processor
processor   : 0
# echo 1 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu1/online

   * What was the outcome of this action?
==

What happens then is a boot from BIOS as if I switched-on the
computer after sudden shutdown.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
==

I expect that the last echo re-enables the CPU so that it is listed
in /proc/cpuinfo again. I confirmed that this is the behavior when
using the version 3.2.63-2+deb7u2 that also succeeds to resume after
suspending.

Something else that I tried
==

Adding maxcpus=1 as boot argument made the system boot with only one
processor in /proc/cpuinfo. With this, I made the observation that
the pm tests for hibernation work. However, resuming after a real
suspend again leads to a reboot. Hence I removed this boot argument
again.

What else I (unfortunately) did after experiencing the bug
==

I downgraded my kernel to the previous version I found by apt-cache.

# aptitude install linux-image-3.2.0-4-amd64=3.2.63-2+deb7u2 \
linux-headers-3.2.0-4-amd64=3.2.63-2+deb7u2 \
linux-headers-3.2.0-4-common=3.2.63-2+deb7u2
# update-grub
# reboot

After reboot, everything worked as expected. I thus removed the
proposed updates from /etc/apt/sources.list.

Note again that due to these changes, some of the automatically
generated information here are wrong. Now I am back to version
3.2.63-2+deb7u2 which works. The version that fails for me is
3.2.65-1. The version part in the pseudo header of this message has
been modified by me. All other information represent the current
(working) configuration of my system. It should still be helpful
because the hardware is the same.

Finally some proof (?) that I had another version once. After typing

$ zless /var/log/apt/history.log.1.gz

there is one paragraph (besides many others) which reads

Start-Date: 2014-12-31  11:37:04
Commandline: apt-get upgrade
Upgrade: wireless-regdb:amd64 (2014.06.13-1~deb7u1, 2014.10.07-1~deb7u1),

linux-libc-dev:amd64 (3.2.63-2+deb7u2, 3.2.65-1)
End-Date: 2014-12-31  11:38:00

I hope that helps. Anyway thanks for all your dedication!

Bug#736214: reportbug: SMTP transmission issues can cause complete loss of bug report

2014-05-01 Thread Julius Seemayer
tag 736214 confirmed
severity 736214 important
thanks

Hi,

I can confirm this bug, at least parts of it. If something goes wrong on the
'send via mail' part, it is not possible to recover the bug report. This is
very bad, since a bug submitter is forced to rewrite his/her entire bug
report. At this point many to-be bug reporters will throw the towel and leave
the bug unreported, I think.

And no, 'fix your mail setup' is not an option. If the user notices that the
reportbug mail gets lost, (s)he needs a backup to resend after fixing their
MTA/network/whatever. Right now there is no such backup.

This should be fixed as soon as possible, at least keep the /tmp/reportbug-*
file containing the report and point the user to them.

Cheers,

Julius

P.S.: re-tagging as important (not grave), because it's very annoying.

Bug#745963: rsnapshot: linux_lvm_cmd_lvremove is not silenced (lvcreate is)

2014-04-26 Thread Julius Seemayer
Package: rsnapshot
Version: 1.3.1-3
Severity: normal

Hi,

rsnapshot seems to be wrongly patched at one point, hence the
linux_lvm_cmd_umount system() call is silenced, but linux_lvm_cmd_lvremove is
not. Since only the latter is noisy by default (fix that, lvm guys!), the
wrong one is muted.

This applies for stable and sid, at least.

Bug#740271: d-i fails to purge LVM despite preseeding

2014-04-24 Thread Julius Seemayer
Hi,

I recently stumbled across the very same bug while setting up an automated
installation environment. So far my solution or rather workaround looks like
this:

> # this will DESTROY any VGs and PVs found
> d-i partman/early_command string sh -c 'set -- $(vgs --rows --noheadings |
> head -n 1); for vg in "$@"; do vgremove -f "$vg"; done; set -- $(pvs --rows
> --noheadings | head -n 1); for pv in "$@"; do pvremove -f "$pv"; done'

It might not be perfect but will destroy/wipe any recognized volume groups and
physical volumes. In contrast to simply 'dd if=/dev/zero'ing the disc it is
much faster, but will only solve the LVM specific problem. E.g. md-RAIDs
might still exist. I'm not sure if d-i will also choke itself in this case,
but it's not topic of this bug.

The expanded and pretty formatted code looks like this [1]:

> d-i partman/early_command string sh -c '
>   set -- $(vgs --rows --noheadings | head -n 1);
> for vg in "$@"; do
>   vgremove -f "$vg";
>   done;
>
>   set -- $(pvs --rows --noheadings | head -n 1);
> for pv in "$@"; do
>   pvremove -f "$pv";
>   done
> '

It will obviously choke on VGs or PVs that contain a whitespace [2], but I
think such a identifier would be invalid as well. As I stated above, it's
just a workaround; a proper fix should be done inside d-i.

Cheers,

Julius

[1] d-i seems not to like escaped newlines (\) in the preseed.cfg in any
cases, hence the first one is one-line
[2] "set -- $(echo 'a b' c)"   would   create   three  arguments,  thus  three
invocations of the in-loop code

* URL : https://launchpad.net/~xorg-edgers/+archive/mesa-legacy
* License : MIT/X
  Programming Lang: C
  Description : free implementation of the OpenGL API -- legacy DRI1 modules

 This version of Mesa provides GLX and DRI capabilities: it is capable of
 both direct and indirect rendering. For direct rendering, it can use DRI
 modules from the libgl1-mesa-dri package to accelerate drawing.
 .
 This package does not include the OpenGL library itself, only the DRI
 modules for accelerating direct rendering.
 .
 For a complete description of Mesa, please look at the
 libgl1-mesa-swx11 package.
 .
 The tdfx DRI module needs libglide3 to enable direct rendering.
 .
 NOTE: This package provides old DRI1 drivers to be used with mesa 8.x

Bug#739246: btrfs-tools: command line arguments get eaten

2014-02-16 Thread Julius Seemayer
Package: btrfs-tools
Version: 0.19+20120328-7.1
Severity: important

The btrfsck from the Wheezy btrfs-tools package doesn't handle command line
arguments properly, e.g. >

# btrfsck -f /dev/vdb1 || echo fail
btrfsck: invalid option -- 'f'
usage: btrfsck dev
Btrfs Btrfs v0.19
fail
# btrfsck -a -f /dev/vdb1 || echo fail
Btrfs Btrfs v0.19
# btrfsck -a dummy /dev/vdb1 || echo fail
Btrfs Btrfs v0.19
#

< The argument after -a gets obviously eaten. -f should cause an error, as
'dummy' should. (The combination -a -f is used in the /etc/init.d/checkroot.sh
and /etc/init.d/checkfs.sh scripts.)

Note: The Jessie and later packages moved the code from btrfsck.c code to
btrfs.c, along with a very different argument parsing. I haven't checked but
those versions are probably not affected.

Cheers,

Julius

Bug#696981: munin: Cron job warn about "not a reference at /usr/share/perl5/Munin/Master/Utils.pm line 908"

2013-12-09 Thread Julius Seemayer
Hi,

I'm currently running into the same issue and did some debugging with the help
of the #munin guys.

The conditions to trigger this bug seem to be: munin never ran successfully.
munin-node is not installed, thus no munin can't pull the default 'localhost'
client, so /var/lib/munin/*storable doesn't get created, which causes the
actual error message.

A workaround could be:

* install munin (or already have a 'broken' munin installation)
* install munin-node
* wait for '*/5 * * * *' cronjob or run munin-cron manually (as user munin)
* purge munin-node (probably followed by autoremove --purge)
* find a way to get rid of localhost.localdomain entries and add your real
  hosts

I'm not sure if that'll work reliable. Also, I'm not sure if this is actually
the core bug.

Cheers,

Julius

Bug#726353: rkhunter: "must be present on the system" messages for all /{s,}bin tools

2013-10-14 Thread Julius Seemayer

Severity: important

I didn't change /e/d/rkhunter nor /e/rkhunter.conf, but the very same conf is
running on multiple boxes without problems. Debug log is attached below [1].

As far I can see, the second call on check_required_commands() doesn't include
/{s,}bin, so probably $BINPATHS is set wrong at that time. Manual setting with
--binpath /bin doesn't change the output on stdout/err or in the debug log.

Cheers,

Julius

Bug#723024: caff: fails if stdin is not a TTY

2013-09-15 Thread Julius Seemayer
Package: signing-party
Version: 1.1.4-1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

caff from package signing-party tries to read the "send mail to xyz?" (and
other) answers from stdin, which is not necessary but breaks the usage of
xargs or similar tools:

(simulated, ^\.\.\.$ means cropped line(s))
$ caff  ;
+   open TTY, "/dev/tty" or die("Cannot open TTY: $!\n");
+   $answer = ;
+   close TTY;
if (!defined $answer) {
$OUTPUT_AUTOFLUSH = 1;
-   die "\n\n".
+   die "\n\n". # XXX obsolte?
"End of STDIN reached. Are you using xargs? Caff
wants to read from STDIN,\n".

I'm no Perl guru, so I'm not sure if that patch will have side effects. But
alternatively caff could/should warn the user at the very beginning, which is
to be accomplished with that second patch:

--- /usr/bin/caff   2011-11-01 20:01:39.0 +0100
+++ /tmp/tmp.EQNI9gJkxx/caff2013-09-15 15:21:40.388893938 +0200

later)") unless (-t STDIN);
+
 for my $hashkey (qw{local-user no-download no-sign no-mail mail

That would look like:

Bug#711122: digikam: Import from USB device: file permissions different on landscape/portrait orientation

2013-08-18 Thread Matthias Julius
Package: digikam
Version: 4:2.6.0-1+b2
Followup-For: Bug #711122

This also happens when manually rotating JPEGs that are already on disk.
They get their permissions changed to 600 while umask is set to 0022.

I guess Digikam is creating a temporary copy that is then renamed. It
should adjust the file permissions after that to those of the original
file.

Bug#718908: digikam: Renaming of image files very slow

2013-08-06 Thread Matthias Julius
Package: digikam
Version: 4:2.6.0-1+b2
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

renaming of image files takes more than a second per file. When renaming
hundreds of files this adds up to a long time. The files are located on
a NFS share. However, mapivi is doing the same job in a fraction of the
time.

Greetings
Matthias

As mentioned above: Probably the unstable package is not broken in that way.
I didn't figure out if this can be smoothly installed in stable.

Bug#714806: debian/README.keyctl: outdated documentation (single threaded kernel support)

2013-07-02 Thread Julius Seemayer
Package: cryptsetup
Version: 2:1.6.1-1
Severity: minor

The documentation in /usr/share/doc/cryptsetup/README.keyctl consists a large
paragraph about how to work around the "single threaded" implementation of
dm-crypt in Linux. However, that's not correct anymore as of 2.6.38, see [1],
patch [2]. So the information given in that file is wrong for Wheezy and
newer.

README.keyctl is equal in Wheezy, Jessy and Sid.

Julius

Bug#696500: martian-modem-source: Building with m-a ends with "not successful"

2013-06-25 Thread Julius Seemayer
Hi,

I can confirm this bug. martian-modem fails to build a working setup using
m-a when running a >2.6 kernel. It installs a martian_dev.o (not .ko), as we
see in the output (quote from Yvos attachement):

 dh_install source/martian_dev.o lib/modules/3.2.0-4-686-pae/extra

which leads to debian/rules

 84 dh_install source/martian_dev.$ko lib/modules/$(KVERS)/extra

while the make-style variable $k is set at

 72 k = $(shell echo $(KVERS) | grep -q ^2.6 && echo k)

Obvisiously it's a too dumb check, 3.x kernels are "detected" as 2.4 ones and
get .o kernel modules (which aren't recognized).

A a quick fix, one can temporary put a grep(1) wrapper to
/usr/local/sbin/grep:

 #!/bin/sh
 [ "$1" = -q -a "$2" = '^2.6' ] && return 0 || /bin/grep $@

or just fix the package itself.

Cheers,

Julius

Bug#710019: nocache -n does not work, outdated LD_PRELOAD script included

2013-05-27 Thread Julius Plenz
Hi,

Thanks, Martin, for reporting this!

* Martin Steigerwald  [2013-05-27 16:42]:
> Package: nocache

Dmitry, I just pushed a tag v0.9 to the upstream repo so that you can
re-build and upload the package (there are a few improvements in that
release, too).

Could the version number somehow either be a simple “0.9” or refer to
an *exact* commit by including an abbreviated commit checksum? Because
right now I wouldn’t know which commit is actually packaged in Debian.

Thanks,

Julius

Bug#679650: paste.debian.net fails without explanation

2013-05-15 Thread Julius Seemayer
Package: pastebinit
Version: 1.3-4
Followup-For: Bug #679650

Hi,

I can confirm this bug. Plus, there is another aspect of the same issue that
didn't get
mentioned.

paste.debian.net currently blocks submissions with less than "3 or two line
breaks". So a
simple

$ date | pastebinit
http://paste.debian.net/
$ echo $?
0
$

fails silently. The server response includes the error message

BEGIN

Could not add your entry to the paste database:
Thanks to some spammers you need to provide at least 3 or two
linebreaks

END

but the end user will never see it. That's the same behavior as for very long
input:

$ dd if=/dev/zero bs=10M count=1 | pastebinit
1+0 records in
1+0 records out
10485760 bytes (10 MB) copied, 0.0771713 s, 136 MB/s
http://paste.debian.net/
$ echo $?
0
$

on which reason the bug originally was reported. It creates the same kind of
silent error message as above:

BEGIN

Could not add your entry to the paste database:
Length of code is not allowed to exceed 150kB

END

As a quick fix one could compare the defaultPB variable with the returned URL
from the server.

Cheers,

Bug#699711: molly-guard: fails with `Unterminated quoted string' when using a quoted shutdown(8) `warning message'

2013-02-03 Thread Julius Seemayer
Package: molly-guard
Version: 0.4.5-1
Severity: important
Tags: patch

molly-guard will not work when using the optional `warning message' for
shutdown(8) that contains ``special'' charakters like ticks:

# shutdown -h +20 "we'll pull the power cord soon"
eval: 1: Syntax error: Unterminated quoted string
#

A patch to make this work could look like [1]. We replace any `"' in the input
by `\"', after working around the broken `echo'. Each $arg can then safely get
enclosed by `""' and put into $CMDARGS.

Cheers,

Julius

Bug#698436: microcom: man page markup errors

Package: microcom

Current microcom(1) man page in testing (equal version as in Sid) has somewhat
broken man markup (see patch). Escpecially the second case is serious, because

Bug#693345: apticron: /etc/cron.daily/apticron dies with timeout message

2012-11-15 Thread Julius Seemayer
Package: apticron
Version: 1.1.42
Severity: normal

apticron dies when it should check for updates, the cron mail reads like [1].
(note that I'm replacing the hostname with and the FQDN with .)

I'm using apt-cacher-ng on another box B to cache Debian packages, this machine
called A has the issue. Another machine C, which uses also B for caching has
very same issues. On B itself, apticron seems to work well (!).
So one would assume apt-cacher-ng makes it fail, but a forth box D which does
NOT use the cacher, fails also.

The last useful "new package there" mail by apticron was on 2012-09-30 (it says
libc update, maybe relevant?). From 2012-10-03 on the cron mails came instead.

I'm glad to know how to debug further.

Cheers,

Julius

Bug#690542: nut-nutrition: Segmentation fault amd64

2012-10-15 Thread Julius Hader
Package: nut-nutrition
Version: 15.5-1
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

on a 64-bit system nut-nutrition quits with 'Segmentation fault' right after
start. On 32-bit this doesn't happen.

Removing, purging, then re-installing the package didn't help.

The segfault unfortunately makes the package completely unusable.

Bug#646942: sidebar: unnecessary re-counting of mailboxes

2011-10-28 Thread Julius Plenz
Package: mutt-patched
Version: 1.5.21-5
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

The mutt sidebar patch counts mailboxes of which it thinks have new
mails repeatedly. With many and/or big mailboxes, this unnecessaryly
repeated procedure wastes a lot of performance and resources.

The issue is a design error in the sidebar patch; I have attached a
patch that corrects this behaviour.

Bug#646941: mutt-patched: fix small errors in sidebar patch

2011-10-28 Thread Julius Plenz
Package: mutt-patched
Version: 1.5.21-5
Severity: minor
Tags: patch

I have fixed severall small errors in the sidebar. For more
information, please see the inline patch description.

http://userpage.fu-berlin.de/plenz/mutt/0005-Fix-sidebar-compilation-errors-on-IRIX-systems.patch
http://userpage.fu-berlin.de/plenz/mutt/0006-Fix-counting-of-flagged-mails-in-mboxes.patch

http://userpage.fu-berlin.de/plenz/mutt/0008-Fix-setting-CurrBuffy-when-invoking-mutt-via-f.patch

NB: The patches apply cleanly on top of the already applied sidebar patch.

The fixes should be fairly straight forward. The "drawing issues"
patch is the only one where I really modified some functionality.

Cheers,
Julius

Bug#617514: MeetMe() does not accept any options after Answer() and falls back to default options.

2011-03-09 Thread Julius Kempa
Package: asterisk
Version: 1:1.6.2.9-2+squeeze1
Severity: critical

MeetMe application does not work properly.
for example:

extensions.conf:
exten => 123,1,Answer()
exten => 123,2,MeetMe(100,cmMqTwxX,1000)

The options string seems to be ignored after Answer(). MeetMe works only with
defaults

The same MeetMe call, without Answer before, works fine.

Bug#588407: debian-installer: d-i copies firmware file to wrong location

2010-07-08 Thread Matthias Julius
Package: debian-installer
Severity: normal

I have installed Squeeze on a Dell Inspiron 8000 laptop from a i386 netinst CD
downloaded on Tuesday last week. During network setup d-i pointed out that the
firmware file e100/d101m_ucode.bin is missing. After I put that onto a USB
drive d-i copied it to /lib/firmware where the driver still could not find it.
Only after I moved the file to /lib/firmware/e100 the network setup went fine.
I had to do that a second time during installation, unfortunately I don't
remember at which stage.

Bug#587017: grub-pc: debconf offers to install grub on drives that are RAID members

2010-06-24 Thread Matthias Julius
Package: grub-pc
Version: 1.98-1
Severity: normal

During upgrade the grub-pc package offered to install grub on disks that are
members of a RAID array. The disks themselves are members - there are no
partitions. I have not tested this, but I believe this will make the RAID or
the filesystem on it unusable.

If it is not reasonably possible to detect this condition during setup debconf
should display a warning about it.

Bug#570741: sun-java6: [INTL:de] German debconf templates translation update

2010-02-20 Thread Matthias Julius
Package: sun-java6
Version: 6-18-2
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch l10n

I have prepared an update for the German debconf template translation. Please,
include it in your next upload.

During the review with the German translation team I was notified of some
possible minor errors in the second msgid:

#. Type: note
#. Description

"indicating no restrictions on cryptographic strengths is available for those "
"living in eligible countries (which is most countries). You download this "
"version and replace the strong cryptography versions supplied with this "
"package with the unlimited ones."

The last sentence should probably read:

"You can download this version and replace the strong cryptography version
supplied with this package with the unlimited one."

Best reagards,

This bug also breaks my personal java installation I keep in
/opt/java/ (not even package managed).

I'm trying to connect to LOCALHOST from Java! Brutal bug to
track down. Try googling for "java localhost network is unreachable"!
 Ha!

Personally, I consider this a Debian bug, not a Java bug.

Bug#558171: openssh-client: some LC_LOCALE settings make ssh fail to open a shell

2009-11-26 Thread Julius Plenz
Package: openssh-client
Version: 1:5.1p1-5
Severity: important

Hello,

without apparent reason the ssh client on my system stopped to work
when connecting to some systems. When I try to connect to a certain
server, the connection (including local and remote forwards) are
established and work well, but ssh fails to spawn a shell at the other
end (or fails to connect its output to the local tty). The last lines
before ssh just hangs look like this:

debug1: Sending environment.
debug1: Sending env LANG = en_US.UTF-8
debug2: channel 2: request env confirm 0
debug1: Sending env LC_ALL = en_US.UTF-8
debug2: channel 2: request env confirm 0
debug1: Sending env LC_C = en_US.UTF-8
debug2: channel 2: request env confirm 0
debug1: Sending env LC_CTYPE = en_US.UTF-8
debug2: channel 2: request env confirm 0
debug1: Sending env LC_PAPER = a4
debug2: channel 2: request env confirm 0
debug2: channel 2: request shell confirm 1
debug2: fd 3 setting TCP_NODELAY
debug2: callback done
debug2: channel 2: open confirm rwindow 0 rmax 32768
[... hangs here...]

What I mean by "hangs here" is that the tunnels work fine, and the
control master is usable for shared connections that do not invoke an
interactive shell, but any attempt to kill ssh by pressing ^C or even
^\ fails. (The keystrokes are then printed out to the shell after I
killed the client using `kill'.)

After an hour or so of research, I narrowed this down to ssh passing
the LC_CTYPE environment variable, which is set to en_US.UTF-8 on my
system. If I run `env LC_CTYPE=C ssh host' or `env -u LC_CTYPE ssh host'
everything works fine.

I figured out the problem is not the remote host (because connecting
from other machines with LC_CTYPE set works well), neither the shell
running on the remote host (I tested both zsh and bash, and neither
complained, not even about boguous LC_CTYPE settings).

OTOH, programs that probably don't honour these settings (I tested
`ssh host echo foo') work even with LC_CTYPE set.

Cheers,
Julius

Comments/Problems:

After running "touch /target/etc/adjtime" and restarting "install base

proceeded as normal.  I suspect many users will not think to try this.

Unrelated thought:  the question about "minimizing drivers" vs.
"generic kernel" should be for
expert mode only I think.

Note:  some information below (e.g. kernel version) is unrelated to
this issue because
I've upgraded to unstable and then decided to run bugreport.

Note:  powerpc-utils (1.1.3-22) was the version that failed during installation.

Or even better, create a libkipi-common package which contains the
icons and have both libkipi0 and libkipi6 depend on it.

I would expect this issue will come up every time libkipi changes its

2009-04-13 Thread Matthias Julius
Hi Bastian, hi kde-extras team,

I am considering to "adopt" krecipes and join kde-extras. I have been
working on updating the package and also fix #473367 since a while. I
still have to smooth a few rough edges, but I think I will be ready to
present my package in a few days.

Once I am satisfied with the new package I will upload it to
mentors.debian.net and contact pkg-kde-extras for review and
sponsorship.

Why not acute here? After all the apostrophe has its own key:

Bug#518330: postgrey: [INTL:de] German po-debconf translation

2009-03-05 Thread Matthias Julius
Package: postgrey
Version: 1.32-3
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch l10n

I have translated postgrey's po-debconf template into German. Please include
it in your next upload.

Should the first sentence of the second string read "Postgrey is now listening
on port 10023" instead of "listening to port 10023"? I believe "listening on"
is more common in this context.
