Bug#816056: bsdutils: erroneously predepends on libsystemd0

2016-02-26 Thread Lukas Ruf
Package: bsdutils
Version: 1:2.20.1-5.3
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?
Installation attempts of bsdutils without systemd installed

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
 ineffective)?
   I run apt-get update && apt-get upgrade

   * What was the outcome of this action?
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
bsdutils : PreDepends: libsystemd0 but it is not installable

   * What outcome did you expect instead?
I expect Debian to allow for package installation on systems on
which nothing of systemd and respective libraries is installed

Anyway, the vulnerability is fixed in sf.net's subversion repository

Btw. I have never had the intention to offend Steffen or

 CVE-2008-5368[0]:

If you fix the vulnerability please also make sure to include the

I understand this is a security problem related with muttprint, and
I'll gonna fix it.

However, the phrase local user to overwrite arbitrary files via
symlink attack is misleading -- except if the local user is root.

Can you please elaborate?

Thanks.

Bug#465095: mailscanner fails to start with FIELD_NAME not imported

2008-02-11 Thread Lukas Ruf

Hi Somon

Simon Walter wrote:

Hello Lukas,

did you update an old mailscanner installation?

Not recently. I started using MailScanner about 4 years ago -- but
being subscribed to unstable, I regularly upgrade.

When I realized the difficulties, I did

apt-get remove --purge mailscanner

apt-get install mailscanner

and restored the /etc/MailScanner I have been adjusting over the years.

The problem could be reproduced on two independent unstable
installations (one setup on Dec. 27th, 2007, the other in January 2006).

Any idea -- besides going with the virgin /etc/MailScanner?

Thanks.

Bug#460963: libnss-db does not automatically create /var/lib/misc/* nor terminate

2008-01-15 Thread Lukas Ruf
Package: libnss-db
Version: 2.2.3pre1-2.2
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear all

After upgrding to libnss-db, /var/lib/misc was empty.

Re-installing libnss-db created /etc/default/libnss-db as well as
/var/lib/misc/Makefile. However, the *.db files were not created.

Creating them manually by

sudo make -f /var/lib/misc/Makefile

causes makedb to not terminate when creating the passwd.db files.

Any hint what is going wrong?

Thanks.

I've had good success with s2disk (package uswsusp) rather than
suspend2. I understand they are different implementations of the idea,
with suspend2 requiring a rather intrusive kernel patch whereas the
kernel infrastructure for s2disk is already inside the kernel (from
2.6.17 or thereabouts). You might find it interesting to try
s2disk to see if it gives you better success.

thanks for the hint. I have been using suspend2 for ages -- if I
cannot work around the X-server crashes, I presumably change it.

Bug#397405: apache2-mpm-prefork: child seg-faults on access

2006-11-07 Thread Lukas Ruf
Ond??ej,

 Ond??ej Surý [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2006-11-07 10:11]:

Isn't this related to #397402, ie. update of php4?

it could. I don't know.

after upgrading today, apache 2.2.3-3 is not working: on access,
the child returns a segmentation fault:

  [Tue Nov 07 08:24:22 2006] [notice] child pid 17033 exit signal \
  Segmentation fault (11)]

Any idea on how I can fix that?

Try downgrading php4 to php4-4.4.4~4 and let us know if it helps.

Since php has not been working for me since after the upgrade from
Apache 2.0 to 2.2, I have purged the php module. Now, web-pages are
displayed again, i.e. the child doesn't crash. Thanks for the help.

However, I would be defiintely happy if I would get php back to work
since many pages cannot be displayed without php :(

Any hint for this issue?

Thanks!

Bug#381797: Muttprint won't print - fails to create /tmp/muttprint.log

2006-08-07 Thread Lukas Ruf
Clive,

Clive Menzies [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2006-08-07 03:55]:

Package: muttprint Version: 0.72d-5 Severity: important

I sent this from from reportbug but I don't think it went which may
indicate there's something else not right with this install.
Sending mail in mutt doesn't seem to be a problem.

 Hi

I've just done a fresh install (etch beta3) and upgraded to sid. I
couldn't seem to get muttprint to work. I've got other installs on
other partitions and I'm using the same $home partition and the
 muttrc works fine elswhere.

When I hit 'p' to print a mail, I got the following:

Could not open at /usr/bin/muttprint line 1752, STDIN line 46.

Stephen Gran wrote: Line 1752 is open (LFILE, $Temp{logf}) or
 die Could not open $Temp{logf};

in the printLog subroutine. This means $Temp{logf} is undefined for
some reason. It should normally be /tmp/muttprint.log.

Following a suggestion from Stephan Seitz I created the logfile: $
 touch /tmp/muttprint.log

and muttprint works even after reboot.

have your defied a temporary environment variable? $TEMP and $HOME ?

Do the paths exist where these point to?

Cheers,
Lukas

Since this package no longer exists in stable, testing, or unstable,
I would suggest that you simply remove
 /var/lib/apt/lists/libapache-mod-witch.postrm from your system and
then try again to remove the package. Please don't forget to remove
any references to this module from your apache config by hand.

thanks very much for your help. I found it in /var/lib/dpkg/info.
There, I simply removed all filed with the *apache-mod-witch* pattern.
dpkg complained -- but it worked :)

Those 2 not-fully-installed packages cause me some wonder..

they are the two suspicious postfix packages: postfix and postfix-pcre
since in the first run, I did not document it.

Running newaliases Starting Postfix Mail Transport Agent:
postfixpostfix/postfix-script: fatal: the Postfix mail system is
already running failed!

I can't reproduce this here... preinst stops postfix, and postinst
starts it... That hasn't changed in any of the recent uploads.

I could reproduce this until I stopped postfix with
'/etc/init.d/postfix stop' manually, and re-run the 'apt-get -f
install' approach. Then, the installation succeeded.

However, trying to re-start postfix, I found another problem that might be
related:

I looked at reproducing this bug (not being the maintainer, merely
working on release critical bugs in general). I created four
identical clean sid chroots with just the base system in them.

[...]

In the third chroot I installed fp-compiler 2.0.0-1, and upgraded
that to 2.0.0-2. This failed, as expected. I then removed the pc
 alternative (update-alternatives --remove pc /usr/bin/fpc),
installed 2.0.0-2 again, which now worked. The upgrade to 2.0.0-4
 worked perfectly.

this, I didn't do/know.

Lukas, do you still have the problem? You reported the bug two
months ago, so it may be that your system has been fixed since.

Today, I retried again -- now it worked. Unfortunately, I have not
investigated the problem any further then.

Thanks again for your answer and efforts!

Gruss,
Lukas

No problem. We are glad to see you happy. :-) Thanks for your
  bug report.

Denis, rest of XSF, should we do anything about this recurrent
  issue?

Backward compatibility rules can be added, this is performed by
xkeyboard-config. In this particular case, de_CH was a layout which
could not be combined with other layouts, and was already obsolete
in sarge. I do not know what can be done to force people to upgrade
 to newer layouts.

I cannot speak on behalf of others but if there was a huge bold
warning telling me the differences ('apt-list-changes' or similar,
don't know exactly) while upgrading, I would have possibly saved about
2 hours.

Anyway. Thanks for your help!

No, it doesn't. This bug is fixed in base-config 2.71, available
 from incoming.debian.org.

today at around 06h am (CET), I run the usual update/upgrade cycle on
my latop.

there, the following message appeared:

grave bugs of base-config (2.69 - 2.70) done
 #323863 - base-config: line 59: syntax error near unexpected token `db_fset'
Summary:
 base-config(1 bug)

Now, run the same update/upgrade cycle and get the same message on
another box.

But I see: the done message appears alread for 2.69 - to 2.70
although the bug has been fixed obviously only in 2.71.

Hence, my reporting was caused by the message already for 2.69 -
2.70 although it's been fixed for 2.70 - 2.71.

So, when base-config 2.71 will have made its way from
incoming.debian.org to the repository for common update/upgrade, the
bug will disappear -- most presumably.

Thanks!
