Bug#224077: xsnow licensing

2005-10-30 Thread Cai Qian
Hi,

Subject: Re: Bug#224077: xsnow licensing

 A couple of things:

 1) I do know an address where the author can be contacted

 2) This package is in the middle of being adopted by Cai Qian who I
believe is trying to resolve this issue. (see #329485)

 3) From discussions with the author I discovered he has permission to
use toon_root.c under the xsnow license, he just never stated that
 anywhere.

 4) You should have asked the maintainer where the license status was
 before duplicating discussions with upstream.

I have emailed the author, and I am still waiting his reply.

Regards,
Cai Qian

Bug#224077: xsnow licensing

2005-10-29 Thread Martin Samuelsson
By reading the changelog at the following location,

http://packages.debian.org/changelogs/pool/non-free/x/xsnow/xsnow_1.41-2/changelog

one learns that xsnow is virtually unusable in modern environments
because of a four year old license violation.

Your upstream web page, http://www.euronet.nl/~rja/Xsnow/, shows that
version as still being the most recent release.

This is not an ideal situation.

Could you please either remove the version containing toon_root.c from
your web page or relicense the whole thing under the GPL?

Do keep this bug report Cc:ed to your reply.
