Bug#737850: crawl: menu icon entries missing
Current state: crawl(text) crawl-tiles(SDL) menuYY menu icon -- XDG -Y XDG icon-Y What you report here is the lack of .xpm, that's a trivial fix (there's a .png nearby already). However, I wonder about the inconsistency between menu and XDG: the text version ships a menu entry but no XDG. I think we should either drop the menu from the non-graphical version (the user can start it from her favourite terminal), or add XDG for it as well. Any advice which would be better? Hi, please CC me, I'm not subscribed to this bug report. I personally try to convince people that there is merit in adding support for menu and desktop files even for console based games (at least for those that use ncurses or the like). Since this question came up a few times I added it to the FAQ https://wiki.debian.org/Games/JessieReleaseGoal#Frequently_Asked_Questions So adding a desktop file for the text version is a good idea IMO. Bonus points if the icon for that differs from the tiles version. Sure, some users will just use the terminal to start the game. However by providing a graphical method and a nice icon, the game gets a lot more focus in DEs like Gnome3 where you have Gnome Shell and big icons for everything. With one of the next versions it is much easier to group icons, so why shouldn't it be possible for users to group their favorite console games in Gnome Shell...they just need the corresponding desktop file / icon. Well, it's up to you guys. At least an icon for the menu file would be nice. Cheers, Markus signature.asc Description: OpenPGP digital signature

Please consider adding an icon entry to your menu file. Please refer to https://wiki.debian.org/Games/JessieReleaseGoal for further information. Yes, but people using a terminal are likely to have one already open, rather than using mouse to start a mouse-less text game. I looked at our most direct competition: just like us, NetHack currently provides a menu entry for both console and tiles, and an XDG only for tiles. -- A tit a day keeps the vet away. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe.
