Hi,

Thanks to this discussion the mailing list creation has stalled.

The status-quo, an alioth mailing-list, is unbearable, and way more frustrating
than migrating to a single Debian mailing-list: the noise from spam is very,
very high, which is a burden to all.

Dear listmasters, please consider creating one single mailing-list,
debian-outreach@l.d.o, as asked in the original bug-report. This would be one
great step forward from the status-quo. It is easy enough to add more
mailing-lists afterwards if we feel that the noise is too high.

Unfortunately, this is becoming time-sensitive, as Outreachy and Google Summer
of Code are going to start in a few weeks, and we need to communicate proper
contact details.

Thanks for your consideration,

Have you thought about creating a separate list for the weekly reports?

Not directly. While writing this description, I thought of a separate list for
announcements (program deadlines, welcome emails and such) that would be easier
to follow for people who don't want to get all the traffic from the reports.

I think it's a good idea to migrate the current list "as-is" and to think about
splitting off in a potential second step, if there's consensus that the traffic
is too high.

Does that make sense?

Maybe - a debian-outreach-announce list?

Personally, I feel that with 20 students or more at a time there are a
lot of reports and most mentors and other students on the list would
not be reading through all of them every week.

People get more and more email these days and the more that we can do
as a project to help people (both mentors and students) to get more
focused communication, the less likely they are to become frustrated
or even burnt out.

So there could be three lists:

debian-outreach-announce
  - announce program start and finish details

debian-outreach
  - discussions that potentially involve multiple students or mentors,
students looking for a mentor, etc

debian-outreach-report
  - students submit weekly reports (with CC to their mentors)

Daniel
