Bug#327344: Confirm

2006-01-15 Thread Lukas Kolbe
I can confirm that the two Configfiles attached by Guido are working,
wheras the supplied ones don't work.

Maybe this should be considered release critical, as it renders ipac-ng
unuseable, generates many error-messages and it's not obvious how to
fix.

I'm also on i386. Just about a week ago I stumbled across the
original config i posted on bug #347677, which obsoleted the need
for that random click hack I wrote. The new evdev driver requires
that hack again, plus generates keyboard events ('p' and 'o' on
qwerty, 'r' and 'l' on dvorak) when the horizontal scroll is
 used.

I see the extra events from the cruise control buttons. Horizontal
scrolling works fine for me, I haven't seen any bogus key events so
far.

Bug#347599: (no subject)

2006-01-15 Thread Francois-Denis Gonthier
I'm really interested in the Scheme language, what I lack right now is the
experience of big programs with it.

I hesitate to fully adopt it right now, but if this package was setup for
cooperative maintenance (throught Alioth, I guess), I would certainly get
involved.

I know I can be useful but I just don't feel I'll support the responsability
of fixing all the bugs and do timely updates.

what do you think about that?

No, it isn't. It's just gdb trapping a signal that liboil handles.
Before using the 'r' command to run the program in gdb, use the command:

  handle SIGILL nostop noprint

(Yes, I'm rather annoyed that gdb doesn't do this automatically.)

(And actually, it is a liboil bug, but not a critical one, and one
that was fixed a billion years ago.)

Bug#348228: starttls: segfault when displaying program usage

2006-01-15 Thread Enno Cramer
Package: starttls
Version: 0.10-2
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

On architectures where sizeof(int) != sizeof(char*), starttls dies
with a segmentation fault, while trying to display the program usage
information. The bug is caused by a missing prototype for basename(3)
in starttls.c, thus misinterpreting the return value from basename.
The included patch adds the prototype by adding the missing include.

Bug#348233: vim-common: modifies alternatives even if /usr/bin/vim doesn't exist

2006-01-15 Thread Lars Wirzenius
Package: vim-common
Version: 1:6.4-006+1

When installing vim-common on a fresh, clean chroot with a base Debian
system (sid), created with debootstrap, and without installing vim at
the same time, the alternatives related to vi are modified. I think this
is overly optimistic: they should be modified only after vim actually is
installed.

(For what it's worth: I noticed this because it causes piuparts testing
of vim-common to fail, because the symlinks change to point to vim, but
are not restored upon package removal.)

Bug#347146: round 2 xlibs-dev transition; packages with adjusted dependencies needing upload

2006-01-15 Thread Thomas Viehmann
Justin Pryzby wrote:
 #347146: xlbiff
Today I'll only get that one, but take the liberty to fix this:
+Build-Depends: debhelper, libxaw7-dev ( 4.0.3) ( 4.0.3), xutils,
libxt-dev, x-dev
(The second is a leftover of the xlibs-dev...)

I also note the following packages are hard to NMU, because of some
problem like another FTBFS or the package being native when it should
not be. I'm untagging these 'patch' now.

Illnativeness is not too much of a problem per se, only annoying.

Cheers

Hi,

I had run rm -rf .gnome* .gconf* and it did not help; the default
desktop configuration contained the volume mixer applet which would also
fail to start.

Only reinstalling gnome-panel + gnome-applets helped. I don't know which
of these it was as I did both at once, sorry.

Bug#348239: asmon: unnecessary versioned build-depends

2006-01-15 Thread Santiago Vila
Package: asmon
Version: 0.70-2
Severity: minor

Is there a real reason why libx11-dev, libxpm-dev and libxext-dev have
to be = 6.9.0 in the build-depends? If not, those versions should be
dropped, as their only purpose is to make backports more painful.

Thanks.

Bug#348241: speech-dispatcher: missing dependency on perl-modules

2006-01-15 Thread Lars Wirzenius
Package: speech-dispatcher
Version: 0.5-3

Testing speech-dispatcher with piuparts, I get the following error:

0m8.5s ERROR: Command failed (status=256): 'chroot /tmp/tmp42DfqF dpkg
--purge --pending'
(Reading database ... 6897 files and directories currently installed.)
  Removing speech-dispatcher ...
Purging configuration files for speech-dispatcher ...
In order to use the --remove-home, --remove-all-files, and --backup
features,
you need to install the `perl-modules' package. To accomplish that,
run
  apt-get install perl-modules
  dpkg: error processing speech-dispatcher (--purge):
subprocess post-removal script returned error exit status 255
  Errors were encountered while processing:
   speech-dispatcher

The postrm script uses adduser --remove-home, and that requires
(nowadays) that it depends not only on adduser, but also on
perl-modules.

In addition, you need to do the removal of the user when the package is
being removed and not when it is being purged. You can only rely on
essential packages being available in the purge phase.

Bug#348242: shorewall: leaves file behind after purged

When testing shorewall with piuparts, I get the following error:

0m7.6s ERROR: Package purging left files on system:

This is due to postinst created the tcstart file, but it not being
removed by postrm (which needs to happen when the package is removed,
not just when it is purged, or else tcstart needs to be marked as a
conffile).

Bug#348243: remembrance-agent: purging fails

2006-01-15 Thread Lars Wirzenius
Package: remembrance-agent
Version: 2.11-11

Testing remembrance-agent with piuparts gives the following error:

0m17.9s ERROR: Command failed (status=256): 'chroot /tmp/tmpU7ZzZx dpkg

(Reading database ... 6885 files and directories currently installed.)

directory
  dpkg: error processing remembrance-agent (--purge):
subprocess post-removal script returned error exit status 1
  Errors were encountered while processing:
   remembrance-agent

This is probably because postrm calls emacs-package-remove
unconditionally, but it should do that only when the package is being
removed, not when it is being purged (postrm can only rely on essential
packages in the purge phase).

I should correct myself. We have 3 options for zlib:

Package breaks if we use zlib-dynamic and zlib1-dev is not
installed, which is why we used zlib instead. Build with any of
those options it fails with the decryption failed or bad record
mac error.

If either the server or the client do not support zlib, things
work.

And it seems that the 0.9.7 server doesn't use zlib, even though
it was build with zlib support.

I'm still not sure if this is a bug in the server or the client.

Bug#345091: ITP: checkgmail -- Alternative Gmail Notifier for Linux via Atom feeds

2006-01-15 Thread Sandro Tosi
I looked at the homepage, and while this does appear useful, is it really
nescessary to be packaged all by itself?

Think about a collection package; I don't think debian should be overloaded
 with tons of single-program packages.

I'm getting used to package software for debian, and this seems an
easy one, so I'd like to package it anyway (at least will be in my
repository and not in debian ones).

But, what are collection package? how could I create one? (just curious).

Regards.

Bug#348226: luit can be disabled in uxterm

2006-01-15 Thread Juhapekka Tolvanen

This setting in my X-resources seems to help:

! Be carefull with this. You must have some UTF-8 -capable shell.
! xterm will use conventional 8bit mode or UTF-8 mode according
! to utf8 resource or -u8 option.
UXTerm.VT100.Locale: false

Now luit is disabled. Normally I do not use text-based programs that can
not handle UTF-8, so it should not cause problems. BTW my zsh is a
symlink to zsh-beta.

But there is something to be fixed in behaviour of luit. It should be
possible to have both login shell and luit.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that

worked fine until I switched to UTF-8-era. Now luit seems to fsck things
 up:

I can't reproduce this - but have zsh rather than zsh-beta.
If your locale is a UTF-8 one (as I would guess from the fi_FI.utf8
in the summary), luit is supposed to step out of the way.

However, the path for luit did change sometime last your - that
may be a factor. I see it in /usr/bin/X11/luit - perhaps it's
hung trying to reference a nonexistent program. If that's so,
the xterm localeFilter resource could help.

Bug#348250: adduser: creates /etc/group.lock

2006-01-15 Thread Lars Wirzenius
Package: adduser
Version: 3.80

This bug may be in the shadow (source) package, or in the interaction
between shadow and adduser. I lack the time to find it properly, sorry.

When I create a user in a chroot (with shadow passwords not enabled,
since that is how it is when debootstrap creates it), the
file /etc/group.lock is created:

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/# ls -l /etc/group.lock
ls: /etc/group.lock: No such file or directory
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/# adduser --disabled-password --gecos blah blah
Adding user `blah'...
Adding new group `blah' (1003).
Adding new user `blah' (1003) with group `blah'.
Creating home directory `/home/blah'.
Copying files from `/etc/skel'
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/# ls -l /etc/group.lock
-rw--- 1 root root 6 Jan 15 22:44 /etc/group.lock
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/# ls -l /etc/shadow
ls: /etc/shadow: No such file or directory

I suspect the lock file is being created by one of the shadow tools, but
not removed when it bails out because shadow isn't being used, or
something like that.

Bug#333001: mpich: FTBFS on GNU/kFreeBSD

2006-01-15 Thread Santiago Vila
On Sun, 9 Oct 2005, Adam C Powell IV wrote:

It looks like about 80-90% of the patch is unnecessary to support this
architecture, e.g. there's no need for openrisc, os400, djgpp, crx etc.
in a Debian system. Can you please edit out the unnecessary parts so
the patch is more compact, while supporting the new arch (and other new
ones like armeb)? If you don't, I will try, but I can't guarantee it
 will work...

Well, there might be no need for openrisc, os400, djgpp, crx, but if
you think about it, there is really no need to make the patch shorter
either.

In fact, this is not really about applying a patch, it is about using
the most recent config.guess and config.sub available. You can find
those files in the autotools-dev package, in /usr/share/misc.

If you don't like adding a patch which is aesthetically ugly to you,
you can copy the files at build time instead. The details are
explained in /usr/share/doc/autotools-dev/README.Debian.gz.

Also, mpich is stuck with about twelve other packages trying to enter
testing, so until that transition is made I'll be unable to upload a new
mpich package. I'll do this as soon as possible.

I hope such is not the case anymore.

For the record, several hurd-i386 packages fail to build from source
because libmpich1.0-dev does not exist.

Bug#347758: dh_python and current python policy doesn't match

2006-01-15 Thread Joey Hess
Matthias Klose wrote:
I think so, I wouldn't have submitted it else. python-support is not
yet finished, you agreed to changes, which aren't documented besides
on #irc. IMO it's better to propose these changes first and agree on
them. Other comments have been posted on debian-python as well. It's
much more work to adjust / reupload packages, than reverting back to
the old dh_python for now and continue the development in
experimental. At least another developer did express this opinion on
 debian-python as well.

I didn't realize that Joss's changes to dh_python were leading policy in
this way. If the only alternative to having this RC bug remain open is
reverting those changes until the python people have agreed how things
should work, then I would prefer to do that.

Please check if the package at http://www.bofh.it/~md/debian/ fixes your
 problems.

Well. As you suggested, I took the decision to eradicate devfs sequels
from my system. I had a few naming to change (cdrom, tty for modem, and
other few things in the system...). I will not revert my changes just
for the test.

Thanks for your prompt support.

I nevertheless hope this is the last udev breakage for a while :-)

Maybe deluser should not descend into virtual file systems like sysfs,
 procfs, devpts and usbfs?

That's probably just it.

Bug#301629: wmaker: Docking isn't working

2006-01-15 Thread Michał Cichowicz
Użytkownik Michał Cichowicz napisał:

 Hi,

 Hmmm...

Can you try moving ~/GNUstep out of the way (it would be best if you do
this while Window Maker is *not* running) and restarting Window Maker?
 E.g.:

 $ mv ~/GNUstep ~/GNUstep.backup

If that fixes it, I'd like to have a copy of ~/GNUstep/Defaults

No difference. I was even trying not to launch xmodmap and imwheel
thinking it could mess up somehow but there was no difference too.

I not sure if you remember this bug report. I have accidentally found
today exact circumstances of this behaviour. It happens only if I'm
using the nvidia video driver with switched on TwinView for TV-OUT. When
using the nv driver or the nvidia one without TV-OUT everything's OK.

The only thing I can say is Cuda na kiju! (it's in Polish and means
verbatim miracles on a stick). ;-)

Bug#348252: ganglia-monitor: leaves /var/lib/ganglia

2006-01-15 Thread Lars Wirzenius
Package: ganglia-monitor
Version: 2.5.7-3

Testing ganglia-monitor with piuparts (install, then remove, compare
filesystem before and after) I get the following error:

0m5.9s ERROR: Package purging left files on system:
  /var/lib/ganglia

This would seem to be because postinst creates it (either as the home
directory of the ganglia user, or when it creates /var/lib/ganglia/rrds,
I'm not sure), but the postrm doesn't remove it.

Cool; I'd just suggest mentioning the differences between the two

The following problem still happens:

0m7.0s ERROR: Package purging left files on system:

In the current version of the package it would seem to happen because
the path argument to update-alternatives is different in postinst and
prerm:

update-alternatives --install /usr/bin/mkvinfo
mkvinfo /usr/bin/mkvinfo-text 30

update-alternatives --remove mkvinfo /usr/bin/mkvtoolnix-text

but I didn't get that to work either), so I promoted the severity to
important.

Removal of fbgetty in a fresh, clean sid chroot (without shadow

error:

Bug#348259: dict-elements: use invoke-rc.d

2006-01-15 Thread Lars Wirzenius
Package: dict-elements
Version: 20001107-a-3

Testing dict-elements with piuparts I get the following error:

  Setting up dict-elements (20001107-a-3) ...
  Restarting dictionary server: dictdNo /usr/sbin/dictd found running;
none killed.
start-stop-daemon: nothing in /proc - not mounted? (Success)

The chroot created by piuparts does not contain /proc, which is why
start-stop-daemon fails. The real problem, however, is that the postinst
script runs /etc/init.d/dictd directly instead of using invoke-rc.d. If
it used invoke-rc.d, which calls the policy-rc.d that piuparts sets up,
it wouldn't even try to run the init.d script, and therefore there
wouldn't be a problem.

Please do. This is breaking any Python package built on unstable (where

Building linux-source-2.6.12-10 as root with the following commands:

I got it to build by editing debian/control, adding a new entry
Package: linux-image-2.6.12w4l which was a copy of the entry
Package: linux-image-2.6.12-1-386 but with the package name changed.

There doesn't seem to be a way of building the package without manually editing
debian/control.

Subject: lyx-qt depends on libaiksaurus
Package: lyx-qt
Version: 1.3.6-1.1
Severity: wishlist

*** Please type your report below this line ***
lyx-qt depends on libaiksaurus, which is, according to its package
description, an English-language thesaurus that is suitable for
integration with word processors, email composers, and other authoring
software..

This is really useless for non english-speakers, or for those who don't
write in english.

Of course, aiksaurus doesn't take much place, but it has proven to cause
dependency problems on transitions.

I propose to replace the dependency on aiksaurus by a recommandation.

resulting openssl. Removing zlib makes it go away.

So it seem we have 2 things that conflict here. If we have zlib,
it breaks applications, if we don't, it breaks others.

I should correct myself. We have 3 options for zlib:
 - no-zlib
 - zlib
 - zlib-dynamic

Package breaks if we use zlib-dynamic and zlib1-dev is not
installed, which is why we used zlib instead.

Fix zlib-dynamic to use /usr/lib/libz.so.1 properly instead of
/usr/lib/libz.so?

Build with any of those options it fails with the decryption failed or
 bad record mac error.

any of those options means all of no-zlib, zlib, and zlib-dynamic?

If either the server or the client do not support zlib, things
 work.

And it seems that the 0.9.7 server doesn't use zlib, even though
it was build with zlib support.

I'm still not sure if this is a bug in the server or the client.

So what breaks if using no-zlib?  You said it breaks other [applications];
which ones and how?
