All right, thanks for taking the time to investigate this! If you've

Bug#579102: Depends on non-main packages to compile

2011-08-10 Thread Vincent Cheng
2011/8/9 Aron Xu happyaron...@gmail.com:
Stay at current approach is the most reasonable way I can think of.

As Dererk said he had asked ftp-masters about the problem on this
personally, it would be fine to ask them reply to this bug if anyone
still want to ask the question. Our points on this issue are already
very clear so we need an agreement in the end, and I think there are no
better solutions than asking ftp-masters because it's them that decide
 what's ACCEPTED and what's not.

Vincent, do you think we need their answer? If yes, can you ask them to
 reply here?

 --
 Regards,
 Aron Xu

Well, I trust Dererk's word, so I'm not all that inclined to trouble
the ftp-masters again. Vincent, are you satisfied with Dererk's reply,
or would you like me to contact the ftp-masters regardless?

As for the issue of users with only main enabled in their sources.list
being left with a conky that's somewhat stripped of features
(conky-std), I plan to address this by enabling a few more common
features in conky-std (rather than adding another binary package); see
#579893 for details. Is that an acceptable solution for you?

Kind regards,

Could clear be given a different key? 'l' would appear to be available from a

Bug#579893: conky-all: add support for xmms2 and other players

 thanks

I think in conky-std, there are too few features enabled, however
conky-all is in contrib, this gives main users no chance to have more
features usable (curl, rss, etc). So I reassign and retitle this
report to a more general one. There are two ways of enabling more
features for main users, by adding a new binary, or changing
conky-std. This is up to the maintainer's decision, so I haven't
 created the patch.

 Comments?

I agree (in fact, I was planning to address this issue in a future
upload). Looking at conky's popcon scores, there are relatively few
conky-std users compared to conky-all (61 vs 2102), so instead of
adding yet another conky binary, I'd rather just enable more features
in conky-std, i.e. the ones that are more commonly used. Features that
have very specific uses, or are only useful to a small subset of conky
users (e.g. nvidia support, eve support, IBM/lenovo support, etc.)
 won't go in conky-std.

I think it depends on what additional dependencies will be pulled in
when adding the features. This requires a lot of testing, by building
the package with different settings again and again. If the dependency
is fine then there is no reason not to include the feature even if
they have relatively smaller user base.

Bug#637280: totem: please replace deprecated python-support with dh_python2

2011-08-10 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: totem
Version: 3.0.1-1
Severity: important
Tags: patch
User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
Usertags: origin-ubuntu oneiric ubuntu-patch

Hi Seb (et al),

python-support is now officially deprecated:

http://article.gmane.org/gmane.linux.debian.devel.python/6948

In Ubuntu, we are removing python-support from our CDs for the Ubuntu 11.10
release. As part of that work, we have converted totem to dh_python2
according to these guidelines:

http://wiki.debian.org/Python/TransitionToDHPython2

Please consider applying the attached patch in Debian, to complete the
migration there as well.

Cheers,

Quoting Karolina Kalic (karol...@resenje.org):

I've never seen that there are keyboards with cyrillic layout selling
in Serbia. I couldn't find it on the internet neither, only the
software version. So, replacing the current sr-cy keymap in
console-data udeb by sr seems like a good idea, at least until we
switch to console-setup. For more information checkout [1].

OK. Reassigning the bug to console-data, then.

Bug#637231: Moving Digest::SHA to perl-base

2011-08-10 Thread Niko Tyni
On Tue, Aug 09, 2011 at 12:24:02AM +0200, Pino Toscano wrote:

The short story is: we, Debian Hurd packagers, would like to see
Digest::SHA moved from perl to perl-base.

As discussed in the policy (section 3.8, Essential packages), adding
functionality to the Essential set is not something to do lightly.
So I'd like to explore any alternatives first, particularly as this
is only needed on an unofficial architecture but would affect all the
installer footprint on official ones too.

We are preparing to upload from debian-ports to Debian main a simple
Hurd translator, random-egd, to provide /dev/{,u}random devices. This
translator interfaces to a small init.d service written in Perl, a
slightly modified version of EGD (egd.pl). egd.pl uses sha1() from
Digest::SHA1 (which we changed to Digest::SHA, as Digest::SHA1 is
 deprecated).
The problem is that we need random-egd as dependency of the hurd
package (essential on hurd), so it must be essential too; although,
currently it cannot because Digest::SHA is in perl, which is not an
essential package. Our proposal is whether you could move Digest::SHA
 from perl to perl-base.

Not all dependencies of essential packages need to be essential.
The requirement for staying usable even when unconfigured only applies
to the core functionality of the essential packages. I suppose
/dev/{,u}random needs to be regarded part of that?

Most essential packages declare Pre-Depends entries when their core
functionality does need non-essential packages (mainly libc*). However,
I doubt a Pre-Depends: perl would work in all scenarios involving system
upgrades.

I see /usr/bin/sha1sum is already in the Essential set. Would it
be viable to fork that and compute the SHA checksums through a pipe?
I expect performance is not a real issue here, given the choice of Perl
for such a low level daemon in the first place.

bands of colour and there was no further progress.

I attempted to boot into rescue mode, but got the same result.

I suspect that the kernel 2.6.39-2 isn't compatible with the new AMD
graphics card used by these iMacs.

    switch to multiarch

change debhelper compat to 9, update install files for multiarch

 Acked without 04-change-cups-backend-dir.patch.
This does not need, because this can fix option of configure.
I will fix this with updating bluez-cups.install and bluez-gstreamer.install.

I was lacking in explanation.
Your patch does not support mutiarch in bluez-cups. But I support
mutiarch in bluez-cups,
because cups has already supported multiarch.

Bug#631350: speech-dispatcher: Speech Dispatcher overriding Intel HD internal sound

2011-08-10 Thread Boris Dušek
There is no need to reinstall speech-dispatcher, because:

a. you uninstalled it with --purge, then you no longer have its configuration
file and would install the default configuration file, whose contents I already
well know
b. you did uninstalled it without --purge, then it left the conffiles I am
asking you for, and you can send the information I inquired without installing
the respective package

In any case, knowing your /etc/default/pulseaudio would be helpful, and if you
still have the /etc/speech-dispatcher/speechd.conf, then the grep output I
asked too.

Anyway while the problem looks like in pulseaudio since it should be able to
run fine with 2 instances under different users, the speech-dispatcher.postinst
script should not have modified /etc/default/speech-dispatcher to be RUN=yes on
upgrade from 0.6* (it should have been 0.7). Unfortunately no way to fix that
now in the package for those who upgraded from 0.6. New installs of
speech-dispatcher should be fine, though. If you did not use --purge when
uninstalling speech-dispatcher, just edit /etc/default/speech-dispatcher and
change RUN=yes to RUN=no, speech-dispatcher 0.7 should not run as a
system-wide service.

10.8.2011 v 0:56, Marc J. Driftmeyer:

I'll have to reinstall it. After uninstalling it PulseAudio and ALSA work
seemlessly within both KDE 4.6.5 and GNOME 3.0.2.

What is the boot order of loaded services/daemons and perhaps that is the
 problem?

 Hello,

 2. post output of: grep AudioOutputMethod /etc/speech-dispatcher/speechd.conf

Also, would you remember whether you had this problem also with previous
 0.7* versions of the package?

Finally, the bugreport information says that you have modified the conffile
/etc/default/speech-dispatcher. Do you remember modifying it? (A theory I
have is that a package installation script modified it without you doing it).

Bug#637285: openresolv: dns-domain dns-sortlist in the interfaces file is not getting into resolv.conf

2011-08-10 Thread Alex Apke
Package: openresolv
Version: 3.4.4-2
Severity: normal

I am not sure if this is a bug in openresolv or in the ifupdown package, but
it doesn't appear that the /etc/network/if-up.d/000resolvconf field entry to
set the domain or sortlist in /etc/resolv.conf from /etc/network/interfaces
is working.

In various ifupdown documentation openresolv scripts I found that that
dns-domain, dns-sortlist are valid parameters for the interfaces file,
in addition to dns-search, dns-nameservers, and dns-options.

BTW: the version of ifupdown that I have tested is: 0.7~alpha5.1
0.7~alpha5+really0.6.10, ifupdown-extra is installed as well: 0.18

here is a sample complex interfaces file excerpt:
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.0.3
network 192.168.0.0
netmask 255.255.255.0
broadcast 192.168.0.255
# dns-domain foo
dns-search foo bar
dns-nameservers 192.168.0.2
dns-options timeout:5
dns-sortlist 130.155.160.0/255.255.240.0 130.155.0.0

auto eth1
iface eth1 inet static
address 192.0.43.10

netmask 255.255.255.0
broadcast 192.0.43.255
gateway 192.0.43.1
dns-domain example.com
dns-nameservers 8.8.8.8 8.8.8.4

Will result in the following /etc/resolv.conf (Note: local ns installed)
$ cat /etc/resolv.conf
# Generated by resolvconf
search foo bar example.com
nameserver 127.0.0.1
nameserver 192.168.0.2
nameserver 8.8.8.8
nameserver 8.8.4.4
options timeout:5

domain sortlist are missing, and the domain value is being appended to
search, plus the eth0 eth1 stanza's aren't broken up like in the following

The first backup failed by a simple test for the presence of a file the

 initramfs-tools(8) and Documentation/sysrq.txt have details.

I hate to say this but after a cold start the error/hang is not
reproducible anymore... and I did nothing. Now the system

Let's make this bug about (2). Could you file a separate bug for (1)?

Sure, I'm still facing the NM problem, will write a new bug for that.

Bug#511715: gallery3 Debian package

2011-08-10 Thread Tanguy Ortolo
Hello Michael,

I want to take some news about the packaging of Gallery 3. It has been
several years since this ITP report was filed, and I know you have not
abandonned it since you have updated your package only a month ago.

However, even though you seem to have a working package (I have not
tested it yet), it is still not part of Debian, and not even in the NEW
queue. I do not know why this is stalled, but could you either explain
if there is some specific reason for that, or ask for help?

Packaging software is a good thing, but if it is not to release them I
think it is only a waste of time…

following problem:

- a po file without fuzzy strings,

I'm afraid it's an encoding issue (character with wrong encoding). I

Bug#637240: linux-image-3.0.0-1-686-pae: Several problems after updating to kernel 3.0

2011-08-10 Thread Camaleón
2011/8/10 Camaleón noela...@gmail.com:

I hate to say this but after a cold start the error/hang is not
reproducible anymore... and I did nothing. Now the system
restarts/shutdowns fine, with no delay nor errors on the screen.

I spoke too soon.

While the system still restarts with no issues, if I force an unload
of the wireless card module (modprobe -r brcmsmac) I can reproduce the
hang... and this time with a call trace (see attached document).

I think this is what makes NM to malfunction (it does not detect the
broadcom wifi card) :-?

Greetings,

I made patch to support linux-any target. Could you apply this patch?

I tested some package with this patch. Work fine.

This patch looks wrong. It won't work on !linux-any, e.g. kFreeBSD.

The right way would be to test it with `dpkg-architecture -i$wildcard` and check
if $? == 0.

Bug#637284: Can't install wheezy on a 2011 iMac

2011-08-10 Thread Gergely Nagy
reassign 637284 installation-reports
thanks

Installation reports (failure or success) should not be reported against
the Work Needing and Prospective Packages virtual package, but against
installation-reports.

It can then be reassigned from there to the appropriate package, if
confirmed.

I have reassigned the report to installation-reports, so it gets
forwarded to the right place.

Bug#637289: installation-reports: Installation Debian Wheezy weekly-builds 08-08-2011 text=successful gui=not good

2011-08-10 Thread Luis Guzman
Package: installation-reports
Severity: important

Successful installation of Debian Wheezy/Testing on Dell D430 via USB flash
drive. Burnt the iso image to USB after reading the manual to use the command:
cat debian.iso /dev/sdX.
Successful booting from USB stick and presented with all options: Install (via
text), Graphical Install, Advanced Options, Help, Install with Speech
Synthesizer. All menus where visible and the same was true for KDE, XFCE, LXDE
menus.
I initially tried to install via GUI but when presented with the interface, the
text was not shown.
All I saw were square boxes where text should be.

I switched to other terminal using Ctrl+Alt+F4 and this was the output:

debconf: cdebconf_gtk (process:471): Pango - WARNING: failed to choose a font,
expect ugly output. engine-type='PangoRenderFc', script='bengali'
**several lines of the same output followed except bengali was replaced with
the names of other languages.

Reboot and chose Installation text method, everything went smoothly. Ethernet
connection was picked up and setup correctly, partioning was simple enough,
ext4 filesystem as default, Installation completed and standard GNOME desktop
works out of the box. I just have to install a few packages for wireless to
work.

Installation reports (failure or success) should not be reported against
the Work Needing and Prospective Packages virtual package, but against
installation-reports.

Ah, thanks Gergely -- I'm still new to this :-)

-- Mike.

It can then be reassigned from there to the appropriate package, if
confirmed.

I have reassigned the report to installation-reports, so it gets
forwarded to the right place.

Description : Perl module that provides recursive versions of mkdir() and

The goal of File::Path::Tiny is simply to provide recursive versions of mkdir()
and rmdir() with as little code and overhead as possible.

File::Path::Tiny is in no way meant to derogate File::Path and is in no way
an endorsement to go out and replace all use of File::Path with
File::Path::Tiny.

Note that this module is needed by the new version of perlbrew.

without an installed zeitgeist-datahub package, the activity journal is just

Bug#585497: systemtap-doc: error messages from dhelp while indexing langref.pdf

Hi,

the poppler bug

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=586812

has now been fixed and pdftotext in wheezy with systemtap 1.6-1 does not
report errors:

lindi2:~$ cp /usr/share/doc/systemtap-doc/langref.pdf .
lindi2:~$ pdftotext langref.pdf

Is it ok to close the bug? I don't know how to verify if langref.pdf
still breaks the PDF specification but at least the visible symptoms no
longer occur.

If nobody replies in two weeks I'm going to close this :-)

However, it turns out that if I try to run gvim as another user (root),
it works, so there's something in my environment which is causing this
 to break.

It appears that this is a problem with the interaction between libgnome
and multiarch gtk. libgnome is doing a manual lookup of the library
instead of using the function that's already been patched to look in
multiarch directories. I've reassigned this to libgnome.

Bug#637295: Breaks log analysing tools

2011-08-10 Thread Klaus Ethgen
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA512

Package: cron
Version: 3.0pl1-119
Severity: normal
Tags: sid

The solution of #609780 breaks all log analysing tools. More over it
makes no sense to log the PID twice in the logs.

In logfiles the PID is expected direct behind the binary and is recorded
by the syslog (The PID is part of syslog protocol). Putting the same PID
in the message do not only add redundancy that is not needed, it breaks
other tools too as log analysing tools or intrusion detection systems.

Please revoke that broken patch.

Bug was introduced in version 3.0pl1-119.

Bug#633535: Processed: reassign 633535 to systemtap

2011-08-10 Thread Timo Juhani Lindfors
Hi Frank and Ritesh,

The last module unloaded was generated by SystemTap.
There is much more information needed from the submitter, regardless.

I didn't get your email. Please remember to Cc:
633535-submit...@bugs.debian.org or the emails won't reach the submitter
of the bug.

 - What was that ptrace-related workload being run?
(On debian, ptrace has no relations to systemtap.)
 - What are those itrace / itrace2 dmesg's?

It's a toy project of mine that uses ptrace to get a trace of all
executed instructions of a process and to correlate this against symbols
of loaded libraries. It's not exactly ready yet but it does support
i386, amd64, armel and kfreebsd-i386. I was looking at adding thread
support last time iirc but it is not done yet.

 - How long before the kernel error was the last systemtap script
   completed?
 - Can the problem be reproduced? Reliably or intermittently?
   On a freshly booted machine?

It's definitely too late now sorry. Let's close the bug now. I'll reopen
it if I ever hit the bug again.

-Timo

Bug#629695:

2011-08-10 Thread Andrey Gursky
Hi!

Sorry I've discovered this bug report only recently. I'm dealing with
this failure since about 4-5 months. And I'm wondering what is the
purpose of weekly generated DVD-images when the distribution can't be
installed from them during the last 4-5 months?

How to reproduce this? It would be enough straightforward to install
that what has been generated on DVD-1 weekly image. I'm doing it every
week under VirtualBox. The saved logs (from integrated WEB server) are
attached.

Hope it could help to find out what's going wrong here. Or please
point me to the discussion on the structure of DVD-1 image
(debian-installer - tasksel - pkgsel ...).

Best regards,
Andrey

Bug#628828: [PATCH] Build Python-bindings for all Python versions

2011-08-10 Thread Philipp Hahn
Hello Guido,

In reference to our talk at DebConf11, here's a patch to build the Python
bindings of libvirt for all versions of Python. This might also fix this bug.

The idea of this patch is to
1. switch to an out-of-tree build, since I have to play some symlink-tricks to
create the python/ directory for each Python version
2. configure and build it once for the default Python version
3. build and install just the python/ directory for all Python versions

The patch to debina/control will probably not apply to Debians current
version, so just so following change:
 sed -e '/Build-Depends:/s/python-dev/python-all-dev/' \
 -e '/XS-Python-Version:/s/current/all/' debian/control

Bug#637296: dracut: complains about missing directories

2011-08-10 Thread Sven Joachim
Package: dracut
Version: 011+36+gd727c5a-1
Severity: normal

There is an error message when the initramfs is created:

,
| # dracut -q -f $(uname -r)
| E: Directories consolefonts, consoletrans, keymaps, unimaps not found.
Please inform us about the issue including your OS name and version.
`

It's not clear to me what the exact problem is or where these
directories are supposed to be. I have /usr/share/console{font,tran}s
shipped by console-setup-linux, while /usr/share/keymaps is in
console-data which is not installed here. However, a unimaps directory
is apparently not contained in any Debian package.

Bug#637288: missing or wrong error message/handling in po4a-translate

2011-08-10 Thread Martin Eberhard Schauer

severity wishlist
retitle 637288 Please add an additional diagnostic message for
po4a-translate

thanks

Hello Martin,
There is no bug, your PO file is not complete, it contains only 4
strings but po4a finds 8 translatable strings in the manual page (and
1 string is fuzzy because your PO file contains release 3.29 and
manual page contains release 3.32).

   $ po4a-updatepo -f man -m termcap-with-error.5 -p termcap-with-error.5.po
 done.
   $ msgfmt -cv termcap-with-error.5.po
3 translated messages, 1 fuzzy translation, 4 untranslated messages.

Hello Denis,

thank you for your very fast response. The examples were unfortunate,
because I tried to provide a small test case by cutting most of the
original.

Now that I have understood the problem (my fault) I still would appreciate
a diagnostic message. Perhaps something like po file not up to date at
entry

no $number, please run po4a-updatepo.

And the current error message can be a bit misleading: I believe the number
given for the translation ration actually describes the locations in the
files
leading to the error. Everything behind this point is not necessarily
untranslated

or wrong.

Cheers,
Martin

Yup, that's already the case (gnome-activity-journal recommends the
 zeitgeist meta-package, which recommend zeitgeist-datahub).

It is?

gnome-activity-journal depends on zeitgeist-core | zeitgeist, which
installed zeitgeist-core for me. Recommends don't include zeitgeist.

The zeitgeist meta-package depends on zeitgeist-datahub, but both were
initially not being installed.

without an installed zeitgeist-datahub package, the activity journal is just
  empty.

FYI, there's also other ways to get stuff logged (eg. plugins for
 applications).

Ok. I assumed the activity journal needs the datahub to access the data,
but I don't really know about these things.

Martin

Bug#637298: broken cross-debootstraps (--foreign) with host=kfreebsd and target=linux

2011-08-10 Thread Robert Millan
Package: debootstrap
Version: 1.0.34
Severity: normal
Tags: patch
User: debian-...@lists.debian.org

While cross-deboostraping a linux-i386 chroot using kfreebsd-amd64 host:

$ sudo debootstrap --foreign --arch=i386 squeeze /tmp/test
/usr/sbin/debootstrap: 425: cannot create /tmp/test/test-dev-null: Invalid
argument
E: Cannot install into target '/tmp/test' mounted with noexec or nodev

the problem here is that $ARCH stores the target architecture, but it is used
for tests where only the host architecture is relevant.

Please consider attached patch to fix the problem by adding a new variable,
$HOST_ARCH, for the host architecture.

Bug#637299: [dak] unable to upload after key replacement

Since I replaced my key in the debian keyring, I am unable to complete uploads
to the archive. I gen the 'Processing' mail, but then get neither 'ACCEPTED'

Bug#471266: Workaround for #471266: bash-completion: lvm completion does not work properly

2011-08-10 Thread Axel Beckert
retitle 471266 bash-completion: lvm completion does not work properly
kthxbye

This bug is very annoying and drove a coworker of mine nearly mad.

My workaround (propagated to about 200 Debian and Ubuntu workstations
and servers):

  dpkg-divert --divert /etc/bash_completion.d/.lvm.disabled --local --rename
--add /etc/bash_completion.d/lvm

Accordingly I suggest to remove the LVM completion completely from the
package unless this issue is fixed. IMHO LVM completion in its current
state does more harm than it helps.

This patch looks wrong. It won't work on !linux-any, e.g. kFreeBSD.

The right way would be to test it with `dpkg-architecture -i$wildcard`
 and check if $? == 0.

Ah. Thanks.

Sounds like you are more into these details than me. I suspect that
perhaps there are limits on which releases of Debian works with above,
and also that when it works it might replace parts of the existing
script rather than only extending.

So would you perhaps be able to provide a patch?

Kind regards,

Bug#637302: gforge-lists-mailman: Remove superfluous dependency on apache2

2011-08-10 Thread Olivier Berger
Package: gforge-lists-mailman
Version: 5.1-3
Severity: minor

Hi.

gforge-lists-mailman depends on apache2. I think this is either useless, or
should be replaced by a dependency on gforge-web-apache2 instead, if it really
needs the Web server...

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Bug#635724: marked as done (vlc: FTBFS (kfreebsd-i386) Segmentation fault (core dumped) ../bin/vlc-cache-gen .)

2011-08-10 Thread Reinhard Tartler
Hi,

now with qt4-x11 fixed, I'm very confident that vlc can be built again
on kfreebsd-i386. Can you therefore please set a dep-wait for vlc on
qt4-x11 version 4:4.7.3-6? I believe the syntax is:

dw vlc_1.1.11-2 . kfreebsd-i386 . -m 'qt4-x11 (= 4:4.7.3-6)'

Cheers
