Bug#637170: conky: Enable hurd build by patching build system?

2011/8/9 Aron Xu happyaron...@gmail.com: Stay at current approach is the most reasonable way I can think of. As Dererk said he had asked ftp-masters about the problem on this personally, it would be fine to ask them reply to this bug if anyone still want to ask the question. Bug#579893: conky-all: add support for xmms2 and other players
On Thu, Aug 11, 2011 at 11:34, Vincent Cheng vincentc1...@gmail.com wrote: On Tue, Aug 9, 2011 at 8:45 PM, Aron Xu happyaron...@gmail.com wrote: reassign 579893 src:conky retitle 579893 src:conky: enable more features in conky packages thanks I think in conky-std, there are too few features enabled, however conky-all is in contrib, this gives main users no chance to have more features usable (curl, rss, etc). So I reassign and retitle this report to a more general one. There are two ways of enabling more features for main users, by adding a new binary, or changing conky-std. This is up to the maintainer's decision, so I haven't created the patch. Comments? I agree (in fact, I was planning to address this issue in a future upload). Looking at conky's popcon scores, there are relatively few conky-std users compared to conky-all (61 vs 2102), so instead of adding yet another conky binary, I'd rather just enable more features in conky-std, i.e. the ones that are more commonly used. Features that have very specific uses, or are only useful to a small subset of conky users (e.g. nvidia support, eve support, IBM/lenovo support, etc.) won't go in conky-std. I think it depends on what additional dependencies will be pulled in when adding the features. This requires a lot of testing, by building the package with different settings again and again. If the dependency is fine then there is no reason not to include the feature even if they have relatively smaller user base. -- Regards, Aron Xu -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#637231: Moving Digest::SHA to perl-base
On Tue, Aug 09, 2011 at 12:24:02AM +0200, Pino Toscano wrote: The short story is: we, Debian Hurd packagers, would like to see Digest::SHA moved from perl to perl-base. As discussed in the policy (section 3.8, Essential packages), adding functionality to the Essential set is not something to do lightly. So I'd like to explore any alternatives first, particularly as this is only needed on an unofficial architecture but would affect all the installer footprint on official ones too. We are preparing to upload from debian-ports to Debian main a simple Hurd translator, random-egd, to provide /dev/{,u}random devices. This translator interfaces to a small init.d service written in Perl, a slightly modified version of EGD (egd.pl). egd.pl uses sha1() from Digest::SHA1 (which we changed to Digest::SHA, as Digest::SHA1 is deprecated). The problem is that we need random-egd as dependency of the hurd package (essential on hurd), so it must be essential too; although, currently it cannot because Digest::SHA is in perl, which is not an essential package. Our proposal is whether you could move Digest::SHA from perl to perl-base. Not all dependencies of essential packages need to be essential. The requirement for staying usable even when unconfigured only applies to the core functionality of the essential packages. I suppose /dev/{,u}random needs to be regarded part of that? Most essential packages declare Pre-Depends entries when their core functionality does need non-essential packages (mainly libc*). However, I doubt a Pre-Depends: perl would work in all scenarios involving system upgrades. I see /usr/bin/sha1sum is already in the Essential set. Would it be viable to fork that and compute the SHA checksums through a pipe? I expect performance is not a real issue here, given the choice of Perl for such a low level daemon in the first place. -- Niko Tyni nt...@debian.org -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#631350: speech-dispatcher: Speech Dispatcher overriding Intel HD internal sound
There is no need to reinstall speech-dispatcher, because: a. you uninstalled it with --purge, then you no longer have its configuration file and would install the default configuration file, whose contents I already well know b. you did uninstalled it without --purge, then it left the conffiles I am asking you for, and you can send the information I inquired without installing the respective package In any case, knowing your /etc/default/pulseaudio would be helpful, and if you still have the /etc/speech-dispatcher/speechd.conf, then the grep output I asked too. Anyway while the problem looks like in pulseaudio since it should be able to run fine with 2 instances under different users, the speech-dispatcher.postinst script should not have modified /etc/default/speech-dispatcher to be RUN=yes on upgrade from 0.6* (it should have been 0.7). Unfortunately no way to fix that now in the package for those who upgraded from 0.6. New installs of speech-dispatcher should be fine, though. If you did not use --purge when uninstalling speech-dispatcher, just edit /etc/default/speech-dispatcher and change RUN=yes to RUN=no, speech-dispatcher 0.7 should not run as a system-wide service. 10.8.2011 v 0:56, Marc J. Bug#636306: mount.nfs: page allocation failure. order:4, mode:0xc0d0
Instead of switching to cifs, I tried swapiness=100, and just doubling up on the backup job: 25 23 * * * disk-backup || (sleep 100; disk-backup) Last night the first backup failed, second backup worked. Yippee. The first backup failed by a simple test for the presence of a file the nfs mount. Bug#511715: gallery3 Debian package
Hello Michael, I want to take some news about the packaging of Gallery 3. It has been several years since this ITP report was filed, and I know you have not abandonned it since you have updated your package only a month ago. However, even though you seem to have a working package (I have not tested it yet), it is still not part of Debian, and not even in the NEW queue. I do not know why this is stalled, but could you either explain if there is some specific reason for that, or ask for help? Packaging software is a good thing, but if it is not to release them I think it is only a waste of time… Librement, -- ,--. : /` ) Tanguy Ortolo xmpp:tan...@ortolo.eu irc://irc.oftc.net/Elessar | `-'Debian Maintainer \_ signature.asc Description: Digital signature

Bug#637289: installation-reports: Installation Debian Wheezy weekly-builds 08-08-2011 text=successful gui=not good
Package: installation-reports Severity: important Successful installation of Debian Wheezy/Testing on Dell D430 via USB flash drive. Burnt the iso image to USB after reading the manual to use the command: cat debian.iso /dev/sdX. Successful booting from USB stick and presented with all options: Install (via text), Graphical Install, Advanced Options, Help, Install with Speech Synthesizer. All menus where visible and the same was true for KDE, XFCE, LXDE menus. I initially tried to install via GUI but when presented with the interface, the text was not shown. All I saw were square boxes where text should be. I switched to other terminal using Ctrl+Alt+F4 and this was the output: debconf: cdebconf_gtk (process:471): Pango - WARNING: failed to choose a font, expect ugly output. engine-type='PangoRenderFc', script='bengali' **several lines of the same output followed except bengali was replaced with the names of other languages. Reboot and chose Installation text method, everything went smoothly. Ethernet connection was picked up and setup correctly, partioning was simple enough, ext4 filesystem as default, Installation completed and standard GNOME desktop works out of the box. -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA512 Package: cron Version: 3.0pl1-119 Severity: normal Tags: sid The solution of #609780 breaks all log analysing tools. More over it makes no sense to log the PID twice in the logs. In logfiles the PID is expected direct behind the binary and is recorded by the syslog (The PID is part of syslog protocol). Bug#633535: Processed: reassign 633535 to systemtap
Hi Frank and Ritesh, The last module unloaded was generated by SystemTap. There is much more information needed from the submitter, regardless. I didn't get your email. Please remember to Cc: 633535-submit...@bugs.debian.org or the emails won't reach the submitter of the bug. - What was that ptrace-related workload being run? (On debian, ptrace has no relations to systemtap.) - What are those itrace / itrace2 dmesg's? It's a toy project of mine that uses ptrace to get a trace of all executed instructions of a process and to correlate this against symbols of loaded libraries. It's not exactly ready yet but it does support i386, amd64, armel and kfreebsd-i386. I was looking at adding thread support last time iirc but it is not done yet. - How long before the kernel error was the last systemtap script completed? - Can the problem be reproduced? Reliably or intermittently? On a freshly booted machine? It's definitely too late now sorry. Let's close the bug now. I'll reopen it if I ever hit the bug again. -Timo -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact listmas...@lists.debian.org

Bug#629695:
Hi! Sorry I've discovered this bug report only recently. I'm dealing with this failure since about 4-5 months. And I'm wondering what is the purpose of weekly generated DVD-images when the distribution can't be installed from them during the last 4-5 months? How to reproduce this? It would be enough straightforward to install that what has been generated on DVD-1 weekly image. I'm doing it every week under VirtualBox. The saved logs (from integrated WEB server) are attached. Hope it could help to find out what's going wrong here. Or please point me to the discussion on the structure of DVD-1 image (debian-installer - tasksel - pkgsel ...). The idea of this patch is to 1. switch to an out-of-tree build, since I have to play some symlink-tricks to create the python/ directory for each Python version 2. configure and build it once for the default Python version 3. build and install just the python/ directory for all Python versions The patch to debina/control will probably not apply to Debians current version, so just so following change: sed -e '/Build-Depends:/s/python-dev/python-all-dev/' \ -e '/XS-Python-Version:/s/current/all/' debian/control diff -ur a/debian/control b/debian/control --- a/debian/control2010-03-23 12:26:14.0 +0100 +++ b/debian/control2010-03-23 12:27:56.0 +0100 @@ -3,13 +3,13 @@ Priority: optional Maintainer: Debian Libvirt Maintainers pkg-libvirt-maintain...@lists.alioth.debian.org Uploaders: Guido Günther a...@sigxcpu.org, Laurent Léonard laur...@open-minds.org -Build-Depends: cdbs (= 0.4.43), debhelper (= 7), libxml2-dev, libncurses5-dev, libreadline-dev, zlib1g-dev, libgnutls-dev, python-dev (= 2.3.5-11), python-central (= 0.5.6), +Build-Depends: cdbs (= 0.4.43), debhelper (= 7), libxml2-dev, libncurses5-dev, libreadline-dev, zlib1g-dev, libgnutls-dev, python-all-dev (= 2.3.5-11), python-central (= 0.5.6), libavahi-client-dev, libsasl2-dev, xen-3.4 [i386 amd64], lvm2, qemu [amd64 i386 powerpc sparc], open-iscsi, libparted1.8-dev (= 1.8), libdevmapper-dev, uuid-dev, libpciaccess-dev, module-init-tools, dpkg-dev ( 1.15.3) | dpkg-dev ( 1.15.3), libnl-dev -XS-Python-Version: current +XS-Python-Version: all Build-Conflicts: dpkg-dev (= 1.15.3) Vcs-Git: git://git.debian.org/git/pkg-libvirt/libvirt.git Vcs-Browser: http://git.debian.org/?p=pkg-libvirt/libvirt.git diff -ur a/debian/rules b/debian/rules --- a/debian/rules 2011-01-24 10:59:18.235952511 +0100 +++ b/debian/rules 2011-01-24 11:01:29.947448727 +0100 @@ -21,6 +21,7 @@ include /usr/share/cdbs/1/class/autotools.mk include /usr/share/cdbs/1/class/python-distutils.mk +DEB_BUILDDIR := $(CURDIR)/debian/build DEB_CONFIGURE_EXTRA_FLAGS := \ --disable-rpath \ --with-qemu \ @@ -43,18 +44,59 @@ --without-capng \ --without-macvtap\ --enable-debug \ + --srcdir=$(CURDIR) \ $(BUILD_XEN) \ $(BUILD_VBOX)\ $(BUILD_LXC) DEB_COMPRESS_EXCLUDE = .o event-test hellolibvirt info1 suspend DEB_PYTHON_SETUP_CMD = /dev/null +DEB_PYTHON_MODULE_PACKAGE = python-libvirt DEB_DH_MAKESHLIBS_ARGS_libvirt0 += -V 'libvirt0 (= 0.5.0)' DEB_DH_INSTALLINIT_ARGS = --no-restart-on-upgrade -- defaults 28 72 DEB_DH_INSTALLLOGROTATE_ARGS = --name=libvirtd EXAMPLES_DIR = $(CURDIR)/debian/libvirt-doc/usr/share/doc/libvirt-doc/examples/ +# Python rules +-include /usr/share/python/python.mk +ifeq (,$(py_sitename)) + py_libdir_sh = $$(_py_=$(strip $(1)); python$${_py_\#python*} -c 'from distutils import sysconfig; print(sysconfig.get_python_lib())') +endif + +PY_DIR := $(DEB_BUILDDIR)/python +PYDEFAULTVER := $(shell pyversions --version --default) +PYVERSIONS := $(shell pyversions --version --installed) + +otherpy = \ + set -e; for v in $(PYVERSIONS); do \ + $(RM) $(PY_DIR); \ + ln -sf $(PY_DIR)$$v $(PY_DIR); \ + $(MAKE) \ + -C $(PY_DIR) \ + pyexecdir=$(call py_libdir_sh, $$v) \ + PYTHON=python$$v \ + PYTHON_VERSION=$$v \ + PYTHON_INCLUDES=-I/usr/include/python$$v \ + $1; \ + $(RM) $(PY_DIR); \ + done; \ + ln -sf $(PY_DIR)$(PYDEFAULTVER) $(PY_DIR) + +configure/python-libvirt:: + set -e; for v in $(PYVERSIONS); do \ + cp -la $(PY_DIR) $(PY_DIR)$$v; \ + done + $(RM) -r $(PY_DIR) + ln -sf $(PY_DIR)$(PYDEFAULTVER) $(PY_DIR) + +build/python-libvirt:: + $(call otherpy, all) + +install/python-libvirt:: + $(call otherpy, install DESTDIR=$(CURDIR)/debian/tmp) +# Python rules + binary-install/libvirt-bin:: cp $(CURDIR)/tools/libvirt-guests.init.sh $(CURDIR)/debian/libvirt-bin.libvirt-guests.init cp $(CURDIR)/tools/libvirt-guests.sysconf $(CURDIR)/debian/libvirt-bin.libvirt-guests.default @@ -70,3 +112,5 @@ clean:: rm -f $(CURDIR)/debian/libvirt-bin.libvirt-guests.init rm -f $(CURDIR)/debian/libvirt-bin.libvirt-guests.default + $(RM) -r $(DEB_BUILDDIR) +# vim:set ft=make ts=4 sw=4: Sincerely Philipp -- Philipp Hahn Open Source Software Engineer h...@univention.de Univention GmbHLinux for Your Businessfon: +49 421 22 232- 0 Mary-Somerville-Str.1 D-28359 Bremen fax: +49 421 22

Bug#637288: missing or wrong error message/handling in po4a-translate
severity wishlist retitle 637288 Please add an additional diagnostic message for po4a-translate thanks Hello Martin, There is no bug, your PO file is not complete, it contains only 4 strings but po4a finds 8 translatable strings in the manual page (and 1 string is fuzzy because your PO file contains release 3.29 and manual page contains release 3.32). $ po4a-updatepo -f man -m termcap-with-error.5 -p termcap-with-error.5.po done. $ msgfmt -cv termcap-with-error.5.po 3 translated messages, 1 fuzzy translation, 4 untranslated messages. Hello Denis, thank you for your very fast response. The examples were unfortunate, because I tried to provide a small test case by cutting most of the original. Now that I have understood the problem (my fault) I still would appreciate a diagnostic message. Perhaps something like po file not up to date at entry no $number, please run po4a-updatepo. And the current error message can be a bit misleading: I believe the number given for the translation ration actually describes the locations in the files leading to the error. Everything behind this point is not necessarily untranslated or wrong. Cheers, Martin -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-bugs-dist-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#637291: gnome-activity-journal: Recommend/Depend on zeitgeist-datahub

Yup, that's already the case (gnome-activity-journal recommends the zeitgeist meta-package, which recommend zeitgeist-datahub). It is? gnome-activity-journal depends on zeitgeist-core | zeitgeist, which installed zeitgeist-core for me. Recommends don't include zeitgeist. The zeitgeist meta-package depends on zeitgeist-datahub, but both were initially not being installed. without an installed zeitgeist-datahub package, the activity journal is just empty. FYI, there's also other ways to get stuff logged (eg. plugins for applications). Ok. I assumed the activity journal needs the datahub to access the data, but I don't really know about these things. Bug#471266: Workaround for #471266: bash-completion: lvm completion does not work properly
retitle 471266 bash-completion: lvm completion does not work properly kthxbye This bug is very annoying and drove a coworker of mine nearly mad. My workaround (propagated to about 200 Debian and Ubuntu workstations and servers): dpkg-divert --divert /etc/bash_completion.d/.lvm.disabled --local --rename --add /etc/bash_completion.d/lvm Accordingly I suggest to remove the LVM completion completely from the package unless this issue is fixed. IMHO LVM completion in its current state does more harm than it helps. The right way would be to test it with `dpkg-architecture -i$wildcard` and check if $? == 0. Ah. Thanks. Sounds like you are more into these details than me. I suspect that perhaps there are limits on which releases of Debian works with above, and also that when it works it might replace parts of the existing script rather than only extending.
