Bug#345689: More info and patch (#345689)

2006-01-07 Thread Luca Bruno
tags 345689 patch
thanks

As you can see from the source (gphoto2/main.c):

206:{"d", "delete-file", "range", N_("Delete files given in range"),
delete_file, 0}
1706: {"delete-file", 'd', POPT_ARG_STRING, NULL, ARG_DELETE_FILE,
1707: N_("Delete files given in range"), NULL},

So the right option is "--delete-file", while the "--delete-files" in the
manpage should be corrected accordingly (I've provided a patch for this,
attached).

Cheers, Luca

The correct URL now is: http://intr.overt.org/gphotofs/

It has also been imported in gphoto's CVS:

I know, I didn't tell to build on libpng10.
I was suggesting to look better to the changes between 10 and 12.
As far as I can tell, reading /usr/share/doc/libpng12-dev/README.Debian:

***
This version diverges from upstream in 3 ways :
1) the library is explicitly linked with -lm -lz
2) libpng.so.3 is just a compatibility symlink
3) symbols are versioned
***

I think that problem could be there.
I looked at lib sources but I can't find great differencies between 10
and 12 regarding png_write_finish_row.
But as I'm not very skilled in libraries and linking I can't help much
more...

Description : filesystem client based on libgphoto2

GPhotoFS is a filesystem client based on libgphoto2 that exposes
supported cameras as filesystems; while some cameras implement the
USB Mass Storage class and already appear as filesystems (making
this program redundant), many use the Picture Transfer Protocol (PTP)
or some other custom protocol. But as long as the camera is supported
by libgphoto2, it can be mounted as a filesystem using this program.

Bug#340585: Segfault on mips/mipsel when importing gst.interfaces

2005-11-24 Thread Luca Bruno
Package: python-gst
Version: 0.8.2-1
Severity: important

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Compiling istanbul package on mips/mipsel fails at configuring time
due to a segmentation fault trying to import gst.interfaces.
It works fine for all other archs.

Complete Mips buildd log is available here [1].
Relevant part is:

checking for python module gst... found
checking for python module gst, gst.interfaces...
../configure: line 20457: 1221 Segmentation fault $PYTHON -c "$prog" 1>&5 2>&5

Where $prog is:

prog="
import sys
try:
import gst, gst.interfaces
sys.exit(0)
print 'yes'
except ImportError:
sys.exit(1)"

gst module importing from the previous check went fine, so I think the problem
is in gst.interfaces.

Cheers, Luc@

Probably, I'm intersted in adopting it.
But as I'm not (yet) a DD, I need a sponsor.
I still have some doubts: Do you use a date as version because there
isn't an upstream tarball? Does 0.9.2 come from the version of eterm?
Am I right :)?

Several DWN-it issues had been already sent to debian-italian (see

I will be the moderator ([EMAIL PROTECTED]).

Bug#304448: RFS: gxhost (GTK interface to xhost)

2005-04-21 Thread Luca Bruno
Hi all,
as requested in RFP (later ITPed by me) #304448, I've done the debian
package of gxhost.

Description: GTK interface to xhost
Gxhost is graphical frontend to xhost written in GTK.
It is used to add or delete host or user names to the
list allowed to make connection to the X server; this can
provide a rudimentary form of privacy control and security.

Source files are available on mentors.debian.net [1].
An i386 binary package can be found here [2].

The package is lintian and linda clear.

This is a request for sponsor... looking for someone who can sponsor
this package :)

Bug#299939: gkdial: Double-click on "Disconnect" causes a crash

2005-03-17 Thread Luca Bruno
Package: gkdial
Version: 1:1.8.0-3
Severity: grave
Tags: patch
Justification: causes non-serious data loss

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

After the connection, when there is the window with
connection statistics, duoble-click on the "Disconnect"
button causes a crash...
Also, if gkdial was started inside of gnome, it causes the
silently close of every other windows opened (in all workspaces).

Digging in the source, I noted a comment for a piece of code
re-used from modemligth gnome-applet. So I think this is the
same bug as in Debian Bug #220796 and Gnome Bug #135464.

I have not attached more infos because it is marked solved in
gnome 2.10, and probably the same updated code should be used as
patch also for gkdial.

Ciao, Luca

Bug#325625: [INTL:it] italian debconf translation updated

2005-09-07 Thread Luca Bruno
Samuele Giovanni Tonon <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> scrisse:

> well, there's already an italian version of traffic vis templates

Sorry, watching this [1], italian .po seemed quite offdated.
90% (9t;0f;1u) and no translator email.
So i thought it has been orphaned.
Only after I realized you're Italian and doing translation by yourself.
I think you could close this bug, and sorry for the noise :)

> veramente la versione italiana gia' esiste per traffic vis

Ho visto qua [1] che era non aggiornata e senza il nome del traduttore.
Pensavo fosse orfano e l'ho aggiornato.
Mi sono accorto solo dopo che tu eri il mantainer.
Puoi controllare perchè non è segnato al 100%?
Scusa ancora per il disturbo.

Bug#323434: mozilla-browser: [INTL:it] Little mistake in po-debconf translation

2005-08-16 Thread Luca Bruno
Package: mozilla-browser
Version: 2:1.7.8-1
Severity: minor
Tags: patch l10n

Hi,
I've found a little mistake in the Italian translation of mozilla
debconf.

The line containig:
msgstr "auto, esddsp, artsdsp, rplaydsp, iessuno"
should be:
msgstr "auto, esddsp, artsdsp, rplaydsp, nessuno"

Attached here you can find the patch for this.

I've Cc:ed the Italian l10n team and the original translator, just
to be polite.

TIA, Luca

Thanks for your tip, I didn't notice the --help-gst switch when I
originally wrote the manpage. I'll try to redesign it for the next
0.2.2-1 upload and let it flow upstream.

Thanks for your report. I've now observed this behaviour too, and
I think it is related to the ximagesrc plugin. I'll ask upstream about
it soon.
Anyway in all my tests the bottom line is *really* narrow
(maximum a dozen of pixels), thus I'm downgrading this bug to
severity: normal.

Feel free to add more info if I'm wrong.

Cheers, Luca

That's weird... It seems to remain in a infinite loop or to miss the
finish event :(
I will try to debug this in the next few days, but don't expect a quick
patch as I will be away without a pc for a week and more. Please be
patient.

Does it happen always with a selected windows? Yesterday I could
reproduce it, but after some tests on source I can't reproduce it
anymore, so I can't find a reproducible and constant pattern.

> Hmm, I do not get any feedback when selecting the window. Is this as

In normal situation, no evident marks are showed.

Anyway, to help me tracking this bug, you should open a terminal and
launch istanbul, then reproduce this issue. You will get some debug
info, and maybe some exception output: please attach them to this bug.

Are you using a composite manager (like compiz, beryl or xcompmgr, or
the equivalent for kde)? I noticed a problem ("maximum recursion depth
exceeded") which leads to the same situation when using compiz.

Ok, so this bug is definitively related to #357507 in python-xlib.
Try to apply the solution described there
(http://bugs.debian.org/357507) to your
library file (/var/lib/python-support/python2.4/Xlib/display.py)

I'd like to take over this package. It's a shame that it was
in badly shape and not shipped with etch.
I'll look to see if it is better suited for volatile than main
(beta version, I mean).

Anyway co-maintainers are, as always, welcome; if Anand Kumria
(Cc:ed here) will come back, I hope we will work fine together.

I'm still in NM (I hope to get my account activated soon), so I
will need a temporary sponsor for this.

Hi all,
I apologize for the long time since the last gtk-gnutella upload, and
for it not being included in etch.
Previous maintainer (Anand Kumria) seems to be Missing In Action, so
this package was recently orphaned.

I just took it over and plan to upload latest gtk-gnutella stable
release (0.96.3) to sid/unstable as soon as I'm comfortable with
its source and the package is ready.

Bug#393373: IETF's RFC license issues

2007-04-13 Thread Luca Bruno
tags 393373 + pending
thanks

Hi,
Looking at this bug, it looks like gtk-gnutella actually contains two
RFC:

> gtk-gnutella-0.96.1svn11444/doc/other/rfc3548.txt
> MISMATCH rfc3548.txt
(which indeed is rfc3548)

> gtk-gnutella-0.96.1svn11444/doc/gnutella/draft-nielsen-dime-02.txt
> MATCH draft-nielsen-dime-02.txt

The first is actually made obsolete by rfc4648 by the same author (S.
Josefsson, CC:ed here) which contains the right copyright notice.
As Simon is currently directly involved in this mass-bug-reporting, I
think that this rfc is not the main problem: I will maintain it as is
for now, asking upstream to replace it with rfc4648 in the next upstream
release. Simon, as the copyright owner, are you ok with it?

The second one instead seems to be a real trouble, I will ask the
authors for a better license, but I'm pessimist and I think I will end
removing it from the tarball and asking upstream to do the same.

agrees and will merge patch for it, if provided. I'm not a great pytgk

I didn't find it as a stock button, so i think that button in that

Then personalize your long description and mention the term screencast

Do you have other python-gst based applications? Do they works?

The ugly set was once needed because one of the component used by
istanbul (ximagesrc) was there. Now it should have been migrated to the
good set, and i think this dependency can be dropped.
I'm not sure of that, so i will make some test before.

Thanks a lot for your report :)

I've talked with upstream, and he told me that this is probably a problem

Matthias, can you please consider this for the next binutils upload?
It looks like we are approaching a new release freeze, and
according to previous discussion this is a good timeframe to merge it.

Bug#689207: rust: changing back from ITP to RFP

2014-02-13 Thread Luca BRUNO
Sylvestre Ledru wrote:

> Yes, Luca is touch with ftp master regarding the bootstrap issue, we
> are discussing with upstream on the llvm patches
> and we have the agreement from Mozilla GSoC admin to propose a gsoc on
> the packaging of rust.

I was planning to send a status update as soon as I got a quotable mail
from ftp-masters, but this is taking some time so here's a partial
summary.

Rust packaging is currently technically feasible (see the many PPA or
unofficial debs) but some legal/policy issues have to be ironed before
hitting NEW. I'm collecting issues and drafts at
https://wiki.debian.org/Teams/RustPackaging

The main one is the bootstrapping phase, for which I have sent a mail
on 07/02/14 to ftp-masters, asking for a position on the proposals at
https://wiki.debian.org/Teams/RustPackaging/Bootstrap
I'm currently waiting for a return on this.

The other (secondary) issue is the libraries bundling, as described in
https://wiki.debian.org/Teams/RustPackaging/Unbundling
jemalloc is no more there, libuv is mostly synched (I was waiting for
an imminent 0.12, but I won't hold my breathe anymore), gyp is a minor
build annoyance, but LLVM is a big beast. For the latter, upstream is
trying to catch up upstream on x86 for 1.0 (but not a blocker):
https://github.com/mozilla/rust/wiki/Meeting-weekly-2014-02-04#wiki-llvm
While this is an annoyance, it won't block NEW review (assuming all the
copyrights are well in place) and (AFAICT) won't have an impact for
-security till when we hit testing/stable (which I still consider
premature now).

Other items just listed in the above page are in a flux:
* soname stability is much better now after[0], but I
feel that the dynamic-vs-linking discussion is not yet written in
  stone.
* rustpkg and dpkg integration is not yet there, as rustpkg was
  recently scrapped[1].
* I don't plan to touch multi-arch and cross-build until things are a
  bit more stable.
* Co-installation of several versions is an open design point. PPA
packages can already do that and I'd like to have it, but I like to
have a proper runtime-vs-compiler split in place before going there.
I still have to get in touch with PPA author.

That's mostly it. I'll CC the ftp-masters reply here as soon as I get
it.

Thanks a lot for improving libv8 portability.
Do you have any info to add about the upstreaming status of this? I see
you are in good relation with libv8 upstream, so I presume you already
submitted a pull-request. Is the review already ongoing/done somewhere?
Or is it a backport for something already landed?

The ideal world would be to only backport patches that have already
been accepted upstream, but I realize this is infeasible in most of
the cases.

I'm a bit worried too about patching upstream for new features, but
OTOH architecture porting shouldn't be too invasive. In this case, I
believe that requiring some kind of upstream liveness check should be
enough: as far as there's somebody updating the patches and reacting to
requests/bugs, it's fine for me.

Just my 2¢, Luca

Bug#564088: lua5.1.pc / lua5.1.vapi

2014-02-09 Thread Luca Bruno
I'd rather package vala such that there will be lua5.0.vapi and lua5.1.vapi.
Then, packages depending on it would have to be fixed according to the
relative new vapi files, which seems reasonable as debian ships different
versions of lua.

If the aren't breaking changes between the two lua versions, it would have
been possible to keep installing lua.vapi, as to have 3 lua vapis.
In case vala breaks lua.vapi, then the old one can be kept in debian/ while
updating only the latest lua5.1 vapi.

I have to double check, but IIRC i backported the relevant commits just
before they tagged 0.9.9.1, so we are probably already carrying
everything via debian/patches.

Anyway, I'll proceed to synch it soon. OTOH, I believe that this project

No, it is not intended to be uploaded to unstable soon.
It was mostly an attempt to see if everything was ok.

According to recent discussions, there should be a 0.48.5 pending.
We may also want to wait for it (IIRC that was the original plan).

I just tried again on a local amd64 pbuilder and didn't see any test
failure.
However, it looks like a similar test failure has been seen by
upstream jenkins:
http://jenkins.nodejs.org/job/libuv-v0.10/179/label=linux/artifact/test.tap/*view*/

I think this may be a race-style regression related to

where 0.10.27-1 fails?

Bug#689077: Header path not matching llvm-config include-dir

2012-09-28 Thread Luca Bruno
Package: llvm-3.1-dev
Version: 3.1-3~exp4

Hi,
I got into some troubles with experimental llvm-3.1...

Current header files are installed in:
/usr/lib/llvm-3.1/include/llvm/llvm
/usr/lib/llvm-3.1/include/llvm-c/llvm-c

while `llvm-config --includedir` reports
/usr/lib/llvm-3.1/include
(ie. a directory up)

I suspect that header links in llvm-3.1-dev should be diverted as in the
following patch:

--- debian/llvm-3.1-dev.links~ 2012-09-14 19:47:31.0 +0200

I raised the severity as it is currently breaking everything which uses `llvm-

2012-09-30 Thread Luca Bruno
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Luca Bruno

* Package name: rust
  Version : 0.3.4
Upstream Author : Graydon Hoare et al.
* URL : http://http://www.rust-lang.org/
* License : MIT
  Programming Lang: C/C++, Rust
Description : a safe, concurrent, practical language

 Rust is a curly-brace, block-structured expression language.
It visually resembles the C language family, but differs significantly
in syntactic and semantic details. Its design is oriented toward
concerns of "programming in the large", that is, of creating and
maintaining boundaries - both abstract and operational - that
preserve large-system integrity, availability and concurrency.
 .
It supports a mixture of imperative procedural, concurrent actor,
object-oriented and pure functional styles. Rust also supports
generic programming and metaprogramming, in both static and
 dynamic styles.

Thanks for the head-up.
I saw you mentioning a patch, which was not attached, maybe you forgot
it?

Forwarded to upstream bugtracker and noticed on IRC, I'm waiting for
comments on that side. Here's the report:
http://www.uzbl.org/bugs/index.php?do=details&task_id=291&project=1

While waiting for the proper CVE-id, attached here is a tentative patch
for the cookie plugin. Just umask setting and chmod on existing jar if any.
Reviews appreciated as I'm not a great pythonista...

Bug#659737: How is outguess-histogram supposed to work?

2012-02-13 Thread Luca Bruno
Package: outguess
Version: 1:0.2-7
Severity: important

Hi,
I was exploring the usage of outgues utilities, and found the outgues-histogram
binary.

Without resorting to source-code, I'm a bit puzzled about what is outguess-
histogram supposed to do. See:

$ man outguess-histogram
No manual entry for outguess-histogram
See 'man 7 undocumented' for help when manual pages are not available.
$ outguess-histogram --help
outguess-histogram: fopen: No such file or directory
$ outguess-histogram
outguess-histogram:
$ outguess-histogram pict.jpg
outguess-histogram: malloc: Cannot allocate memory

Care to document its usage, or move it out of $PATH if not intended to be
directly run by user?

Cheers, Luca

It is also failing on mips and mipsel.
Work is in progress on this bug, upstream is getting a guest access on
{mips, mipsel, sparc} porterbox in order to better track this down.

Bug#683597: python-whois: Wrong json import

2012-08-02 Thread Luca Bruno
Package: python-whois
Version: 0.6.4-1
Severity: grave
Tags: upstream
Justification: renders package unusable

Hi,
it looks like this package won't work on a default Wheezy install
(ie. with python-2.7).

In whois/_1_query.py it tries to import simplejson, which by default
is not installed:

"""
if PYTHON_VERSION >= 3:
import json
else:
import simplejson as json
"""

You should add an explicit dependency on simplejson and (better) try
to import json and then fallback on simplesjson.

Cheers, Luca

Attila, I hope not have bricked any of your msp430 kits. I didn't spot
the importance of this patch out of the upstream bundle that happened
during the freeze, my bad.

Just for a bit of context for the RT, this just affects a minority of
the msp430 chips (the FR series, recently launched and based on FRAM).
I expect most of the user to come for the Launchpad or other zigbee
related boards, which doesn't carry those FR chips.
Nonetheless there are some recent devkits (called fraunchpad), which are
affected. I don't own any of those and I'm unsure how popular they are,
given the price.

Following Attila suggestion, I'd keep the package in and
document this RC in the meanwhile (in the release notes? I fear we are
too late also for a -4 with a NEWS.Debian.gz or a description change).
I'll then upload the fix next week to s-p-u.

Cheers, Luca

Ok, I'm currently building a package with the following description
change.
A couple of questions for the RT:
* gcc-msp430 is at the same version on sid and testing, can I target this -4 to

Allright,
we basically agreed on a -4 with only the description change for
wheezy. Unfortunately the libmpfr4 in sid turned out to be
incompatible, so -3+deb7u1 was later uploaded to t-p-u.
I sent an unblock request yesterday after that, but looks like it got
lost in the bit bucket. Adam had already accepted it, though.

The bug is still there, though, so this report is kept open and the
patch will go to s-p-u (-3+deb7u2 ?) once wheezy is out (monday?).

For Adam: yes, one of the kfreebsd-amd64 autobuilder is picky and it has
been re-tried several time before. I don't remember to have
bin-uploaded -3, even though I did once before (-1 or -2) while
debugging locally. I see that fano has built it, now.

Hi RT,
I'd like to upload a stable +deb7u2 for gcc-msp430.
This is the fix for #706482 which was not closed with +deb7u1 due to short
timing before the release. This revision reverts the previous doc-only change

Yes. Unfortunately the upstream is stalled (as in: RedHat should be
taking it over to upstream gdb soon) to 7.2a.
I initially planned to use the gdb-source+built-using but finally had
to revert to embedded copy due to de-synch, but forgot to update the
control file. That's suboptimal, I know.

That instead is a misunderstanding on my side..

I'm going to update the control file with next upload.

Bug#709480: ITP: libuv -- asynchronous event notification library

2013-05-23 Thread Luca BRUNO
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Luca BRUNO

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

* Package name: libuv
  Version : 0.11.3
  Upstream Author : Ben Noordhuis
* URL : https://github.com/joyent/libuv
* License : MIT
  Programming Lang: C
Description : asynchronous event notification library

Libuv is the asynchronous library behind Node.js. Very similar to libevent or
libev,
it provides the main elements for event driven systems: watching and waiting
for availability in a set of sockets, and some other events like timers or
asynchronous messages. However, libuv also comes with some other extras like:
 * files watchers and asynchronous operations
 * a portable TCP and UDP API, as well as asynchronous DNS resolution
 * processes and threads management, and a portable inter-process
communications mechanism, with pipes and work queues
 * a plugins mechanism for loading libraries dynamically
 * interface with external libraries that also need to access the I/O

This is going to be maintained within the javascript team.

Hello,
the crash is due to an invalid UTF-8 string passed to some GTK+ function which
calls g_markup_escape_text. That string is contained in de.po which is
ISO-8859 English text while all .po files must usually be valid UTF-8
Unicode PO (gettext message catalogue).
Please consider converting your .po files to UTF-8.

Are you using one of your shift as an alternative caps-lock?

Can you please post a `uzbl -p` of this combo?
If you're doing zz, shouldn't it come out
as the 'Zz' command? That is the behavior here...
But I may be lacking some particular about your environment.

I don't think so. The logo was contributed by jimmac and originally

I'm unsure about this. I remember an old thread on -project where it
was found that clause 4b of CC-BY-SA 2.0 allows upgrading to later
version, and several packages already fit in that case.
I think we are in the same case.

Moreover, I can still get in touch with jimmac and ask for a license
change, or just apply clause 4b upstream.

Bug#689207: rust: changing back from ITP to RFP

2013-08-26 Thread Luca BRUNO
> This is an automatic email to change the status of rust back from ITP
> (Intent to Package) to RFP (Request for Package), because this bug
> hasn't seen any activity during the last 10 months.

It's a bit unfortunate that this hijack happened quite quickly, as
background work on rust is ongoing.

Me and Tom Lee started working upstream to iron out some bits
(but it's still a long way), and Sylvestre too recently expressed
interest.

I'm currently trying to get libuv in sync, get it in debian and out of
rust source. LLVM is going to be next big beast after that. libuv is
currently stuck in NEW [0] and may not be currently usable as-is: it
will be probably bundled for some time.

With the fedora packager, we started noting down major issues with
current rust [1].

I have an initial packaging for 0.6/0.7 available on collab-maint [2],
and some monolithic binaries [3]. However I believe rust is still far
from being in a releasable state for Debian and much stuff has to
be discussed wrt. libraries ABI, runtime/compiler split, bootstrapping,
cross-arch, etc.

As a sidenote, I'm still working on both sides to get a proper package
in the archive.

Cheers, Luca

Just to track the status of this:

* 0.10.17-1 is now in sid. This is latest upstream stable release, and
I consider the package ready for use.

* kfreebsd port is done (thanks to kapouer for the initial patch) at

http://patch-tracker.debian.org/patch/series/view/libuv/0.10.17-1/kfreebsd_port.diff
Patch not yet upstreamed, a bit more of polishing needed.

* kfreebsd-amd64 builds fine and passes all tests. -i386 builds fine but
fails in a test with an impossible return value from pthread_create().
I couldn't reproduce this under gdb in the porterbox.
This probably means something race-y and a related issues in eglibc,
I'll ask some helps from porters.

* hurd port is not done. rust, nodejs and julia (main libuv clients)
won't build there, so I've put this at low priority.
I won't be working on this, but I'll be happy to help, test and
  integrate any contributed patches.
libev/libevent (main libuv competitors) are available on hurd, so
maybe upstream is interested in this for the sake of portability.

Thanks for the reports, both issues are already addressed in git (but I
didn't know script(1), so I'll try to use it to pass test-tty).
What I didn't notice is that I mistakenly uploaded ~exp2 to unstable,
while it was intended for experimental.

Libuv packaging is not yet mature and !linux still have to be tested,
I'm going to fill the removal from unstable soon.
