Package: ledgersmb

The database user 'ledgersmb' is used by default in the LedgerSMB
package for database administrative functions like creating new
databases at http://localhost/ledgersmb/setup.pl. There are known
issues with the automatic LedgerSMB package configuration process,
which is why it is not enabled by default. If that process is
selected, however, the 'ledgersmb' database administration user/role
is created but does not get configured with the correct security
access.

As noted in README.Debian; if the default LedgerSMB database
adminstrative user is not created during the package installation, it

CREATE ROLE ledgersmb WITH SUPERUSER LOGIN NOINHERIT ENCRYPTED
PASSWORD 'password';

If it is created, like by selection of doing the configuration
during the package installation, but does not have the correct access;
that can be corrected by using something like the following sql
statement:

ALTER ROLE ledgersmb WITH SUPERUSER LOGIN NOINHERIT;

Bug#693230: MultiMail debian/copyright ?

Hi Peter!

Another package I'm working on adopting is the one for MultiMail.
In particular, I'm working on resolving the current Lintian warnings

two copyright related ones, I noticed that there is no copyright
information noted in debian/copyright specifically for the debian
directory files. That would be the same as for the application
itself?

The following Lintian warnings noted [1] for v0.71-4 have been resolved:
ancient-standards-version
debian-rules-missing-recommended-target
hardening-no-fortify-functions
hardening-no-relo

The buildd warning is also related to the hardening build flags and
believe has been resolved.

Regarding the issues found by debcheck:
- The warnings Package has a Suggests on lha which cannot be
satisfied on the various architectures has been resolved by changing
that entry to 'unar' in debian/control.
- The warnings Package has a Suggests on goldedplus | jamnntpd which
cannot be satisfied on the various architectures: goldedplus was in
Debian I plan to ITP it again (it's been under development again).
There is an existing ITP for jamnntpd.

  The current changelog entry:

* New Maintainer. (Closes: #693229)
* Move installation of doc/AreafixHelp.txt to debian/install.
* Move installation of doc files from the old top level Makefile to the
dh_installdocs command line by adding them to a debian/crashmail.docs file.
* Add usage of the CPPFLAGS,CFLAGS,and LDFLAGS variables to necessary
src/ directory Makefile.linux files.
* Changes to debian/control:
  - Add 'dpkg-dev (= 1.16.1~)' to Build-Depends.
  - Update Standards-Version to v3.9.4, no changes required.
  - Replace the Suggested non-free lha package with the unar package.
* Changes to debian/rules:
  - Add build-arch and build-indep targets.
  - Update CPPFLAGS, CFLAGS, and LDFLAGS using dpkg-buildflags.
  - Moved installation of man pages from the old top level Makefile to the
dh_installman command line.
  - Moved installation of example files from the old top level Makefile to a
dh_installexamples command line.
  - Moved installation of executables from the old top level Makefile to a
dh_install command line and a debian/crashmail.install file.
  - Move the make build clean lines from the old top level Makefile to their
corresponding debian/rules build and clean targets.
  - Move the bin directory lines from the old top level Makefile.

Well, yes; intentionally. It's handles unarchiving LZH is

you all considered splitting off the 1.3.x LedgerSMB ledger-httpd.conf

 for LedgersSMB v1.4?

In the mean time, I'm using a 2.4 compatible version of the file
kept in packaging directory; still need to get that to work,
though...

I am now working on the packaging for 1.3.36; need to get it
working for both upgrades and and new installs...

I will confess it is somewhat difficult as I am currently running Apache
2.2, and haven't had time to upgrade my dev environment.

Something I've found that seems to be true, at least if the
access_compat module is available (like it appears to be in Debian
Testing); if the v2.2 compatible file is left in conf.d and no 2.2
compatible version is enabled in conf-available, it does appear to
work. This I found on a test system that was updated from wheezy to
jessie, which also updated the ledgersmb install to 1.3.25.

As I've not yet been able to get a working v2.4 compatible
ledgersmb httpd config file; I don't know if such a file was enabled,
if that automatically overrides such an existing v2.2 compatible
file..

I see that you sent in a retitle for my ITP for JamNNTPd, # 223905;
it's not clear to me what you were trying to do, though, because it
doesn't seem to have actually changed the title much if at all...

Bug#742723: crashmail: fails to operate on 64 bit systems

2014-03-26 Thread Robert J. Clay
Package: crashmail
Version: 0.71-5
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

   * Operation of crashmail programs fails on 64 bit systems; 'crashstats',
 for instance.
   * In a 32 bit system (i386) there are no such apparent issues with operation
 of the proprams
   * Operation of crashstats resulted in a segfault.
   * Result should be the generation of a text file containing stats
information.

Note that it is not clear how much of the issue is the crashstats program and
how is might be with the program(s) that generates the crashmail.stats file
that crashstat is reading.

 It builds those binary packages:

Just a few small questions/comments from skimming through the debdiff:

 - You added a small dpkg-maintscript-helper snippet to
debian/ledgersmb.postrm, specifically checking if dpkg is new enough
to support mv_conffile before using it; what happens if dpkg isn't
sufficiently new enough to support that / is that something that
 should just fail?
You can simply add a Pre-Depends:
${misc:Pre-Depends} (which will add a pre-dependency on the
 appropriate version of dpkg)

That would do that simply because that form of it (mv_conffile) is
used in the mantainer scripts?

 if you want to use
dpkg-maintscript-helper and not have to worry about whether dpkg is
new enough (and avoid that if dpkg-maintscript-helper supports
 mv_conffile logic).

That version doesn't quite go back far enough for where I may want to
support the package. Although it's getting less likely to be an issue
over time. I'll admit I haven't needed to help with support on
squeeze or lucid recently; are you thinking that I'm worrying too
much about a situation that isn't very likely and that would need to
be supported differently in any case? (For instance, a separate
backport for it, if necessary.)

 - Why bump the version number in debian/NEWS when there isn't a new
entry, and nothing else in the file has changed aside from the
timestamp? That seems likely to just annoy apt-listchanges users.

To ensure that it is taken as being current and will be seen again
as necessary. (I've corresponded with people who didn't look at it
until I pointed it out that the info was there.)

Also, note that since Debian is in freeze right now, if you wish to
target unstable, any (RC) bugfix uploads that you wish to get into
jessie would then have to go through testing-proposed-updates (which
the release team apparently really doesn't like). Are you sure you're
 ok with that?

None of the three bugs I'm seeking to close with this upload are RC,
so I had not anticipated being able to update the package in jessie in
any case. (The new package upgrade I'm working on now involves an
upgrade from v1.3.x to v1.4.x; this upgrade for 1.3.46 is currently
the last in the 1.3.46 series.)

A debian/po debconf Japanese translation has been provided for the package
ledgersmb. However; there is no LedgerSMB locale/po/ja.po file currently
provided with the application. Checked 'System|Language|List Languages' in
LedgerSMB 1.3.47: "ja" is not in the default list. It's also not listed as
an available language when editing templates, and presumably those lists
come from the same source. Note that It can be added manually using

Chris,

I was working the Debian packaging for the PGObject::Util::DBAdmin
today. I was able to update the packaging to v0.09 (which, btw, does not
appear to be push to github repo for the module) but found some issues:

  - Incorrect copyright years in the README & module files, "2014" instead
of the
"2014-2016" that it looks like it should be:
  https://rt.cpan.org/Ticket/Display.html?id=117202

  - Found a couple of minor spelling errors in the module file, and for
which I created a
patch: https://github.com/ledgersmb/PGObject-Util-DBAdmin/issues/9

Note also that I could put a preliminary version of the pkg up on
apt.ledgersmb.org if it might be a bit before these issues can be
addressed...

Bug#844276: Error: Can't locate lsmb-request.pl in @INC

2016-11-20 Thread Robert J. Clay
All,

There is an error that comes up from LedgerSMB on Debian or Debian derived
systems with perl-base version 5.22.2-4 or newer, caused by the 'current
directory' (".") no longer being in the '@INC' Perl search path by default.
It shows up at when using CGI and Apache to access the LedgerSMB
application, so at least for version 1.4.x (and 1.3.x) which use that by
default. An example from an Apache error.log when attempting to access
setup.pl is as follows:

Can't locate lsmb-request.pl in @INC (@INC contains: /etc/perl
/usr/local/lib/i386-linux-gnu/perl/5.24.1 /usr/local/share/perl/5.24.1
/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/perl5/5.24 /usr/share/perl5
/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/perl/5.24 /usr/share/perl/5.24
/usr/local/lib/site_perl /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/perl-base) at
/usr/share/ledgersmb/setup.pl line 8.

An LedgerSMB issue [1] has been opened for the issue; and a Debian bug was
created [2] and forwarded to it. There is also a "User Tag" in Debian being
used to track packages affected by the issue [3].

The currently known distributions where this is being seen or is expected
to be present is Debian Testing ('Stretch'), Debian Unstable ("Sid"), and
the current Ubuntu development version ("Zesty").

A work around is that there is a line in the /etc/perl/sitecustomize.pl
file on Debian systems that can be commented out in order to not remove the
"." (current directory) from the Perl @INC path. The following line is
uncommented by default on current Debian Testing & Unstable systems:

  pop @INC if $INC[-1] eq '.' and !$ENV{PERL_USE_UNSAFE_INC};

If left that way, the error will come up when attempting to access
LedgerSMB running under the Apache web server (which is the default for
v1.4.x). If that line is commented out, the error does not come up. (Note
that it is commented out by default on Debian v8, 'Jessie'. )

There may be other work arounds, like setting the PERL_USE_UNSAFE_INC
environment variable, but that I have not yet tested. And there may not be
work around like that on any system (not just Debian) with Perl v5.24, as I
understand that not having the current directory in @INC is compiled into
the interpreter, but that would be need to be tested further.

Tried that but it didn't seem to work. Think it's seeing that existing

Yes; as gregor noted, there is a 'Makefile' present in the distribution

Bug#836330: package build failure: "No rule to make target"

2017-01-02 Thread Robert J. Clay
There is an ITP [1] I've been working on, wherein Debian package build
attempts just result in an error lke the following:

make[1]: *** No rule to make target
'/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/perl/5.20/Config.pm', needed by 'Makefile'.
Stop.

It comes up when attempting to use 'gbp buildpackage' or 'debuild' [2],
under stretch, sid, or jessie. It does not come up when doing a normal
Perl module build ('perl Makefile.PL && make test', for instance). It also
does not come up attempting a Debian test build of another ITP I have.
(Can't finish that one because it's dependent on this one...)

If anyone has an idea of whats going on here, or how to further investigate
it, or even if anyone else even sees it; I would greatly appreciate it
hearing about it. I've also tried just a Debian source package build, so I
could then try a build using pbuilder, but that just results in the same
kind of error.

distribution archive... The issue is that there is a 'Makefile' already in
the distribution archive. (Why didn't we notice that?) A 'perl
Makefile.PL && make test' sequence (as a for instance) is not affected
because it overwrites that existing one. It affects a Debian pkg build
because the build sees that 'Makefile' already there and so uses that
instead of creating a new one. (That, I think, can be worked around if
needed...)

The cause of the issue is that the word "Makefile" is listed in the
MANIFEST file, so it gets added to the distribution archive.

Thanks

It was thought that this issue had been resolved with changes implemented
in LegderSMB v1.4.39/1.4.40, but when I tested a new package for v1.4.40 on
a Debian Stretch ("Testing") system, which now has Perl v5.24 installed, I
found that the same error is still or again present.

It is still an upstream issue and the one at
https://github.com/ledgersmb/LedgerSMB/issues/2275 has been reopened
because of that.

Bug#868724: ledgersmb: Update debian/watch for new upstream location

The LedgerSMB Project has entirely moved from SourceForge.net,

Bug#868724: Bug #868724 status

2017-07-25 Thread Robert J. Clay
The follow is an update for the status of the issue with the debian/watch
file (see attached for a copy of the current one):

1) It has been updated such that uscan can now find the most recent new
release of the current stable 1.5.x (& only those) versions of the
LedgerSMB application.
2) However, verifying the downloaded archive against the downloaded gpg
signature is failing. This had been working when using the old location at
SourceForge. (Note that there is no issue with the verify if the files
are downloaded manually.)
3) Since the verify step is failing, the step for doing the repack of the
archive does not happen. (Or is happening before the verify, which is
what causes the verify to fail? It's not clear...) So until this issue is
resolved, will have to be downloading and repacking the upstream archive
manually.

Bug#862953: Status update to sql-ledger package version update

2017-08-06 Thread Robert J. Clay
Control: severity -1 wishlist

I'm currently looking at adopting the sql-ledger package and as part
of that I tried building an updated package with the new v3.2.5
upstream version, with the following results:

1) The existing latex-cmdline-option patch did not apply to the new
upstream as it currently is. That would need to be resolved in order
to proceed.

2) More importantly; it results in a new Lintian Error:

E: sql-ledger source: source-is-missing js/calendar.js line length is
1212 characters (>512)

- That 'js/calendar.js' file is also public domain, so besides
resolving the 'source-is-missing' issue, the debian/copyright file
would need to be updated for it.

Because of the bug requesting that the recent v3.2.5 version of

but that resulted in an issue with the latex-cmdline-option patch not
applying and more importantly a 'source-is-missing' Lintian error.

But even with keeping the current v3.0.8 version that's in Debian,
there is still an open issue that is a 'serious' bug [2] regarding:

2017-05-13 Thread Robert J. Clay
The packaging for App::LedgerSMB::Admin has been ongoing; however, there
has been some discussion by upstream of moving the content of the module
into LedgerSMB itself. It's mostly the library modules that it uses in any
case and for the functionality to be expanded like they have been thinking,
it also needs resources that are only available in an existing LedgerSMB
installation.

So, further packaging efforts will be pending their (upstream) decision
regarding that.

it came up with this error during the package installation for
citadel-suite at the point of doing the citadel-server package
install.

This morning I logged into separate session & found that citserver was
running. Was reminded of how to check citadel configuration while
doing another google search on the error message: "sendcommand conf
listval". The list that resulted from that did not contain the
'c_default_cal_zone' at all. Then ran the
command to set for my use:
sendcommand "CONF PUTVAL|c_default_cal_zone|America/Detroit"

Did the listval command and that value did show up as being set. There
are still issues with it being able to complete the citadel-server
package installation, with it still hanging again, but that
'c_default_cal_zone' related error has stopped coming up.

Another error I saw coming up: "Cannot create
/etc/citadel/netconfigs/7: No such file or directory"
Created the /etc/citadel/netconfigs directory and set it's ownership.

I also ran the citadel setup program manually; it seemed to complete
without errors but when I attempted to log in via webcit with the
password set while running setup it was not successful.

Except for the PID for citserver, of course, I saw the same thing when

It certainly did so for me as well.

As I can see from the screenshot I took, it had gotten to about 89%.

It seems to have been; at least, when I logged in on another ssh
session & & checked I found that the setup program was still getting
processor time (this was grepped from 'ps -ax')

12838 pts/0R+ 440:31 /usr/lib/citadel-server/setup -q

And a copy & paste from 'top':

 12838 root 20 0 87572 6424 5464 R 100.0 0.4 445:19.10 setup

To get it out of the way, I had to use a 'kill -9 12838' in order to
kill that process.

Bug#874664: Update ledgersmb package to 1.5.x series

2017-09-08 Thread Robert J. Clay
Package: ledgersmb
Severity: normal

The current version of the LedgerSMB application in Debian is version
1.4.41. As currently noted on the LedgerSMB web site [1], "Version 1.4
will keep receiving critical updates until Sep 15, 2017."; so soon the
ledgersmb package will require updating to a newer version series.

Version 1.5.0 for the LedgerSMB application was released on 23
December 2017 and the most recent version of the 1.5.x series was
version 1.5.10 which was released on 3 September 2017. Update the
ledgersmb package in Debian to the 1.5.x version series of the
application.

Bug#852923: dojo package build errors: FTBFS: OPTIMIZER FAILED

2017-09-12 Thread Robert J. Clay
What is the status of resolving the issues with the dojo package
failing to build from source? I tried a test build of 1.11.0 in
stretch as well as in a current sid chroot (using debhelper 9) and the
same errors come up. The bug is tagged as 'fixed-stream' and I was
going to try a test build of 1.12.2 (which I had to download manually
because the current d/watch doesn't appear to work) but that archive
appears to be missing (at least) the utils directory.

I have a package that depends on dojo so I am very interesting in what
is happening with it.

Bug#805504: Cannot log into Citadel after installation

2017-09-28 Thread Robert J. Clay
Control found -1 902-4
Control retitle -1 Cannot log in to Citadel after installation

First, though, there is a seperate issue that is comeing up, as follows:

configuration setting c_default_cal_zone is empty, but must not -
check your config!

That has already been reported and I was able to resolve it:
reference debian bug #862296 [1].

Once past that, however there are issues that have been brought up
here in this bug that are showing up again in a newer citadel which
can be summarized as follows:

1) The administration user and its password is not getting set during
installation and so one cannot log in to the citadel server. And even
when one can get past that, by manually adding the user and setting
its password, one still cannot get logged in. Possible because of
this issue:
2) A /etc/citadel/netconfigs directory appears be required for normal
operation but I don't know when or how that gets created, Nor what
ownership and permissions it's supposed to have. One of systems I
tried the newer version on (I've tried two; one a hosted VM & the
other a LXC container) I manually created the directory but after
restarting citadel it appeared to be gone again.

Which version of OpenSSL was it last written against? Because while
in jessie libssl-dev was v1.0.x, starting with stretch it's v1.1.0.
And in fact there's a transition underway for getting openssl1.0

Version 1.4.x of LedgerSMB did stop receiving critical updates in

the 1.5.x series.

Correction: Version 1.5.0 for the LedgerSMB application was released

And the most recent version of the 1.5.x series is currently version
1.5.13, which is what is currently being used as the basis for

That quite likely was due to not being able to find it, which is
part of the problem when the code (like in SQL-Ledgers) assumes that
the 'current directory' is included in the search path in @INC.

Yes, with Perl 5.26 they dropped having the current directory (".")
in the @INC array altogether, as well as dropping the site customize
line (or even checking for it). that was an option to add it back in
the a sys admin wanted to.

I do believe it was (and since then made it to Testing...) but as I
mentioned then and Gregor also confirmed, that is not something that
was relevant to this issue with SQL-Ledger.

I am most interested in how that goes for you, especially if you
add the same kind of block of code that I did, with the appropriate
path for your install of SQL-Ledger of course. (Although I'm mostly
interested in the package, and in fact am working on adopting it, I
may try a manual install of a newer version as well...)

And although the patch I used looks like it resolved the error
(although I was getting it as "Can't locate bin/mozilla/admin.pl in
@INC" without the patch since it was a new install on Debian Testing
and I hadn't gotten to the point of trying a login yet) but other
errors were coming up.instead. But it's also true that the 3.08
version is quite old and it needs to be tested with the v3.25 version
in any case.

> Attempting to build a

Despite those, it looks like I need to try that patch I made with
the SQL-Ledger version 3.25 & see how it works with the newer version,
& see that newer version works on a Debian Testing install without
that "Can't locate" error in the way. If that at least works, I can
work on resolving the other packaging issues I found.

For the email to which you've just replied; I changed it back to

The retitle of the bug itself was done by one of he Debian

I wonder if he (the SQL-Ledger author) has looked at that same Perl
v5.26 reference noted earlier in the bug regarding this issue?

https://metacpan.org/pod/release/XSAWYERX/perl-5.26.0/pod/perldelta.pod#Removal-of-the-current-directory-%28%22.%22%29-from-@INC

What I referenced is in that and what I'm going to try is adding the
following code to the scripts, where that path is as it is installed
with the Debian package:

--
BEGIN {
my $dir = "/usr/share/sql-ledger";
chdir $dir or die "Can't chdir to $dir: $!\n";
# safe now
push @INC, '.';
}
--

Note that I say "try" because although I've created a patch that makes
that change in the application scripts, I still need to create a new
LXC container (with Debian Testing or Unstable installed) where I can
test it after building a test version of the SQL-Ledger package with
that patch..
Note also that I'm still working with the existing version of
SQL-Ledger in Debian, which is still only 3.08. Attempting to build a
new package based on the new SQL-Ledger v3.25 results in other errors
(as I noted in the open bug regarding updating the package to that new
version [1]) and I want to see if this patch helps with this issue
before addressing anything else.

I'll follow up further (to you, as well as the bug), later.
