Bug#457018: Can not be installed on latest OpenOffice.org
Juhapekka Tolvanen kirjoitti: This software an not be installed, because latest version of openoffice.org-core is 2.3.1-2 and it conflicts with openoffice.org-core version 1:2.3.0.dfsg.1 or higher. This is now fixed since binary-only upload 2.1-1+b1. I could close this but generally only submitter and package maintainers are allowed to close bugs. Bugs like this happen every time OpenOffice is updated to new upstream version: openoffice.org-voikko needs to be recompiled. Usually no other changes are needed so user can recompile the openoffice.org-voikko package himself/herself. There is an explanation about this in the file /usr/share/doc/openoffice.org-voikko/README.Debian Though it may be difficult to read the file if the package won't install. :) Of course maintainer Timo Jyrinki knows all this. I just wanted to add this explanation to bug tracking system and for original submitter. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Bug#457423: xfonts-wqy: Unconditionally deletes conffile during upgrade
Package: xfonts-wqy Version: 0.9.9-2 Severity: serious Justification: Policy 10.7.3 The postinst script in 0.9.9-2 checks the old fontconfig settings in /etc/fonts/conf.d/ and cleans them up during upgrade. However, the way it is handled violates the policy requirement about conffiles. Quote policy 10.7.3: Configuration file handling must conform to the following behavior: ... local changes must be preserved during a package upgrade However, in xfonts-wqy's postinst: # Clean up old config files if dpkg --compare-versions $2 lt-nl 0.9.9; then rm -f $CONFDIR/wqy.conf fi This will delete the /etc/fonts/conf.d/wqy.conf conffile even if it's locally modified. Although user modification of this file is not very likely, it's nonetheless a conffile already shipped in etch. And I think upgrades between stable releases should be treated very seriously. The fix is also not very hard, the script just need to check the md5sum of the conffile, something like the examples in [1]. 1. http://wiki.debian.org/DpkgConffileHandling Ming 2007.12.22 -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#455806: evolution crash: some quick test results
Hi, I have the same or a very similar problem. The crash is highly reproducable. I played around with the evolution config folder contents for a while. The crash disappears when removing the 'et-expanded-mbox' files. It then reappears ONLY if I open the folder Inbox first. After restarting (evolution has written new config files), the crash happens just like before. Ah, it seems that dpkg-shlibdeps assumes a certain format for SONAMEs, even though this shared object appears to be a private plugin specific to the konqueror package. Dpkg::Shlibs::Objdump seems to be under the mistaken impression that having DYNAMIC and SONAME makes something a public library, and the combination of these two bugs causes the error listed above. Perhaps Dpkg::Shlibs::Objdump should instead determine that something is a public library if it has a certain SONAME format (as well as DYNAMIC), and instead punt if it doesn't. Then extract_from_shlibs would not need that code, and although no shlibs file would be generated, it would at least not cause the build to fail. dpkg 1.14.7 says instead: dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: format of 'NEEDED libkdeinit4_keditbookmarks.so' not recognized dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: format of 'NEEDED libkdeinit4_kfmclient.so' not recognized dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: format of 'NEEDED libkdeinit4_konqueror.so' not recognized but it does not fail. severity 457177 serious thanks * Jonas Smedegaard ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) [071221 19:54]: On Fri, Dec 21, 2007 at 08:11:21PM +0100, maximilian attems wrote: i hate myself inflated bugs, but if you had have a look at the cited points you'd agree on the severity. We do not (in this bugreport) have a dispute over severity of those bugs that you listed. I did not even comment on them (as you seem well aware) but instead requested that you refer to the bugreports, as discussing severity of each bug is best done at those other bugreports. Our disagreement here is on severity of *this* bug, which I interpret as a metabug claiming that this package generally have too many too severe bugs. Please correct me if I somehow misunderstood the nature of the bug raised with this bugreport. Unfortunatly, I have to agree from a release team POV (i.e. speaking with my Release Manager hat on) with maks on the general status of the package, especially as maks spoke with his kernel arch maintainer hat on (so his remarks shouldn't be lightly waived away). One might discuss about the adequate severity of the individual bugs, but they together makes this package RC buggy. (Perhaps even some of the individual bugs make it - we can discuss that at the individual bug reports if wanted.) But there are some cases like brutal hardcoding - breaks ony every new linux image either due to /proc, /sys or /boot/config hardcoded parsing see #443821 for the latest 2.6.23 variation which are *not* fixed by adjusting to the current kernel, but we expect some flexibility and robustness as long term strategy. This isn't a final opinion on yaird, but please don't lower the severity of this bug report until either this bug is fixed also in the opinion of the bug reporter, or someone from the release team agrees to lowering the severity. Waive away? this bugreport is about accumulation of bugs together raising severity of the package in generalm right? I requested to separate specifics, by referring to bugreports related to the issues raised (or, obviously, file bugreports if not reported already). There are several reasons for this request: * Original bugreporters of each issue, and participants in discussions surrounding each bug, are included in this renewed discussion - but only in the parts of the discussion relevant to them * It is easier (for me, at least) to keep track at the various parts of the discussion if not muddled together. One might discuss about the adequate severity of the individual bugs, but they together makes this package RC buggy. (Perhaps even some of the individual bugs make it - we can discuss that at the individual bug reports if wanted.) Yes, please do! But there are some cases like brutal hardcoding - breaks ony every new linux image either due to /proc, /sys or /boot/config hardcoded parsing see #443821 for the latest 2.6.23 variation which are *not* fixed by adjusting to the current kernel, but we expect some flexibility and robustness as long term strategy. I shall fork this as a separate bugreport, and comment on it there. This isn't a final opinion on yaird, but please don't lower the severity of this bug report until either this bug is fixed also in the opinion of the bug reporter, or someone from the release team agrees to lowering the severity. I shall respect your judgement representing the release team. - Jonas - -- Jonas Smedegaard [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.jones.dk/~jonas/ IT-guide dr. Bug#457457: fglrx-driver: locks up my system when the x server starts
severity 457457 important thanks Le Saturday 22 December 2007 16:25:40 Sam Morris, vous avez écrit : Package: fglrx-driver Version: 8.44.3-1 Severity: grave Justification: renders package unusable Not for everyone... My system freezes when the X server is started and the version of fglrx from unstable is used. The version of fglrx currently in testing works fine. Hum.. The first time I switched to this release, the X server froze too, but it went ok after a full restart.. However, the driver works for others (like me), besides its bad resolutions and all previous bugs of course... Romain
Bug#455685: Splashy makes GDM initscript fail (and hence, leaves system on VT1)
I have had the same issue with gdm not starting when splashy is installed. I have checked line 178 of /etc/lsb-base-logging.sh but in the version installed on my system this line is a comment so I can not see how, in my case, that line could be causing the error. The failure mechanism seems to be that /etc/init.d/gdm has performed 'set -e' so that any command that fails, even if there is no error message or the message is surpressed by re-directing to /dev/null, will cause /etc/init.d/gdm to stop executing at that point. With splashy installed and its corresponding /etc/lsb-base-logging.sh the log_daemon_msg subroutine is failing and thus aborting /etc/init.d/gdm. I haven't had a chance to work through all the commands splashy is running but perhaps there are some assumptions there that don't hold true. For example, in my case, splashy was installed because it was recommended by uswsusp and is therefore used for the suspend/resume progress screen but I have not yet got around to setting it up for normal startup/shutdown. Anyway, for now, I have been able to work around this patching /etc/lsb-base-logging.sh as follows: diff -u lsb-base-logging-orig.sh lsb-base-logging.sh --- lsb-base-logging-orig.sh2007-12-22 17:09:34.0 + +++ lsb-base-logging.sh 2007-12-22 17:03:52.0 + @@ -118,7 +118,7 @@ # Stop splashy on *dm case $2 in - ?dm) stop_splashy;; + ?dm) stop_splashy || return 0 ;; esac } So even if attempting to stop splashy fails gdm still starts. Debian bug tracking system administrator (administrator, Debian Bugs database) ---BeginMessage--- Package: hal-info Version: 20071212-1 Severity: grave After the last upgrade of hal-info, network manager fails to find any network device only reporting the error message mentioned in the subject (no network device has been found) when clicking on the ex nm-applet icon. (Note that this happens even with the network device not being mentioned in /etc/network/interfaces as required by network-manager.) Downgrading hal-info to the testing version (20071030-1) fixes the problem. I presume (though I haven't checked) that for finding the network interfaces which are not listed in /etc/network/interfaces to be managed, network manager does some lookup via hal, which fails due to some hal-info breakage. Hence, I think that the other way of using network-manager via /etc/network/interfaces suggested in /usr/share/doc/network-manager/README.Debian (namely, to list the desired interfaces as auto and with dhcp) works, but I haven't tried that. Bug#432755: long term solution for flashplugin-nonfree in stable
Bart Martens wrote: The approach that is, in my opinion, closest to reality, is to maintain flashplugin-nonfree in unstable, allow it to enter testing, keep flashplugin-nonfree out of stable and oldstable, and maintain a working package of flashplugin-nonfree for Debian stable at backports.org . Then users of Debian stable can edit their sources.list once and then forget about flashplugin-nonfree. That appears the least worst option. IMO we should concentrate on gnash and remove flashplugin-nonfree from the archive. We still have 6 months before a freeze, so it can be hopefully brought in shape by then. Bug#457459: acpi modules
it is critical on differnt boxes to load the acpi modules *first*, before doing any other hardware setup. especialy true on i386 and amd64 boxes, please prioritize the fix of that bug. you find the initramfs-tools entries in hooks/thermal. i'll respond to the other bugs later, as none of them has the hardware damaging consequences of that one. -- maks -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Each process sucks one cpu and 3GiB of memory. Even the OOM killer is not able to kill them. Bug#457444: timelimit: tries to install /usr/bin/timelimit, also in package netpipes

Looks like I ought to have run an apt-file search, doesn't it. I've just packaged a new version, timelimit-1.1-2, which just adds a Conflicts: netpipes line, and sent an RFS to debian-mentors. Bug#370366: more about this old bug
I don't sure, but it sounds like problems with VISUALS with Xorg. I can't test it because is unreproducible for me. Please, could test this: export XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 skippy I mean to define the var XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS before starts skippy. May be is problems with especific video cards. But this variable we can avoid this.
