Bug#457018: Can not be installed on latest OpenOffice.org

2007-12-22 Thread Teemu Likonen
Juhapekka Tolvanen kirjoitti:

This software an not be installed, because latest version of
openoffice.org-core is 2.3.1-2 and it conflicts with
 openoffice.org-core version 1:2.3.0.dfsg.1 or higher.

This is now fixed since binary-only upload 2.1-1+b1. I could close this
but generally only submitter and package maintainers are allowed to
close bugs.

Bugs like this happen every time OpenOffice is updated to new upstream
version: openoffice.org-voikko needs to be recompiled. Usually no other
changes are needed so user can recompile the openoffice.org-voikko
package himself/herself. There is an explanation about this in the file
/usr/share/doc/openoffice.org-voikko/README.Debian
Though it may be difficult to read the file if the package won't
install. :)

Of course maintainer Timo Jyrinki knows all this. I just wanted to add
this explanation to bug tracking system and for original submitter.

Bug#457416: iceweasel hangs after start with backtrace

2007-12-22 Thread Joergen Haegg
Package: iceweasel
Version: 2.0.0.11-1
Severity: grave

Something happened after last update, iceweasel start, prints this:

/usr/lib/iceweasel/firefox-bin: Symbol `SSL_ImplementedCiphers' has
different size in shared object, consider re-linking

Then, after the window appear it hangs and give me this huge backtrace.
After that I have to kill it manually.
I tried to downgrade to 2.0.0.10-2, same result.

Description:

Bug#457423: xfonts-wqy: Unconditionally deletes conffile during upgrade

2007-12-22 Thread Ming Hua
Package: xfonts-wqy
Version: 0.9.9-2
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 10.7.3

The postinst script in 0.9.9-2 checks the old fontconfig settings in
/etc/fonts/conf.d/ and cleans them up during upgrade. However, the way
it is handled violates the policy requirement about conffiles.

Quote policy 10.7.3: Configuration file handling must conform to the
following behavior: ... local changes must be preserved during a package
upgrade

However, in xfonts-wqy's postinst:
# Clean up old config files
if dpkg --compare-versions $2 lt-nl 0.9.9; then
rm -f $CONFDIR/wqy.conf
fi
This will delete the /etc/fonts/conf.d/wqy.conf conffile even if it's
locally modified.

Although user modification of this file is not very likely, it's
nonetheless a conffile already shipped in etch. And I think upgrades
between stable releases should be treated very seriously. The fix is
also not very hard, the script just need to check the md5sum of the
conffile, something like the examples in [1].

Bug#455806: evolution crash: some quick test results

2007-12-22 Thread Gilles van Eeden
Hi,

I have the same or a very similar problem. The crash is highly
reproducable. I played around with the evolution config folder contents
for a while. The crash disappears when removing the 'et-expanded-mbox'
files. It then reappears ONLY if I open the folder Inbox first. After
restarting (evolution has written new config files), the crash happens
just like before.

Some info:

Debian release: 4.0 etch
GNOME version: 2.14.3
evolution version: 2.6.3
date of first occurrence: 2007-12-22

message on stderr:
gtkhtml-ERROR **: file htmlgdkpainter.c: line 111 (begin): assertion
failed: (gdk_painter-pixmap == NULL)
aborting...

By the way, I made no system or application config changes after the
last successful run.

Bug#451989: now ctrl-alt ceases working

2007-12-22 Thread Sebastian Bremicker
Package: xserver-xorg-core
Version: 2:1.4.1~git20071212-2

Hi,

after installing the latest version, the hangup was solved, thank you. Now
there is another effect, after creating the same situation which caused the
hang (using ratpoison C-t exclam or colon and hitting return there) all key
combinations which are based on ctrl-alt (like ctrl-alt-f1 or -backspace)
ceased working.

Is there anything I can trace or look deeper into?

Kind Regards,

Please, install kdelibs-dbg and kdepim-dbg then submit a valid backtrace.
A question, are you using KDE or you are using another desktop? In this case
any other KDE app works?

Package: dpkg-dev
Version: 1.14.9
Severity: serious
File: /usr/bin/dpkg-shlibdeps
Justification: breaks unrelated packages (through build-essential)

dpkg-shlibdeps has regressed. It now causes kdebase/experimental
(3.96.0) to FTBFS with the following error messages:

dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: Can't extract name and version from library name
`libkdeinit4_kfmclient.so'

Several thousand other warning messages are present, but since those do
not cause an FTBFS, I have not pasted them here. objdump output is below:

stonewall ok % objdump -x ./konqueror/usr/lib/libkdeinit4_kfmclient.so | grep
-E '(SONAME|NEEDED)'

  NEEDED libgcc_s.so.1
  SONAME libkdeinit4_kfmclient.so

I would provide you with more information if it were clear from the
error messages what name and version you were looking for. Ah, it seems
that dpkg-shlibdeps assumes a certain format for SONAMEs, even though
this shared object appears to be a private plugin specific to the
konqueror package. Dpkg::Shlibs::Objdump seems to be under the mistaken
impression that having DYNAMIC and SONAME makes something a public
library, and the combination of these two bugs causes the error listed
above.

Perhaps Dpkg::Shlibs::Objdump should instead determine that something is
a public library if it has a certain SONAME format (as well as DYNAMIC),
and instead punt if it doesn't. Then extract_from_shlibs would not need
that code, and although no shlibs file would be generated, it would at
least not cause the build to fail.

dpkg 1.14.7 says instead:
dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: format of 'NEEDED libkdeinit4_keditbookmarks.so' not
recognized
dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: format of 'NEEDED libkdeinit4_kfmclient.so' not
recognized
dpkg-shlibdeps: warning: format of 'NEEDED libkdeinit4_konqueror.so' not
recognized

but it does not fail.

N.B. Although the versions of dpkg-dev and dpkg are correct, this report
was not generated on the failing system. Consequently, other package
versions may not be correct.

We do not (in this bugreport) have a dispute over severity of those bugs
that you listed. I did not even comment on them (as you seem well aware)
but instead requested that you refer to the bugreports, as discussing
severity of each bug is best done at those other bugreports.

Our disagreement here is on severity of *this* bug, which I interpret as
a metabug claiming that this package generally have too many too severe
bugs. Please correct me if I somehow misunderstood the nature of the
 bug raised with this bugreport.

Unfortunatly, I have to agree from a release team POV (i.e. speaking
with my Release Manager hat on) with maks on the general status of the
package, especially as maks spoke with his kernel arch maintainer hat
on (so his remarks shouldn't be lightly waived away).

One might discuss about the adequate severity of the individual bugs,
but they together makes this package RC buggy. (Perhaps even some of the
individual bugs make it - we can discuss that at the individual bug
reports if wanted.) But there are some cases like brutal hardcoding -
breaks ony every new linux image either due to /proc, /sys or
/boot/config hardcoded parsing see #443821 for the latest 2.6.23
variation which are *not* fixed by adjusting to the current kernel, but
we expect some flexibility and robustness as long term strategy.

This isn't a final opinion on yaird, but please don't lower the severity
of this bug report until either this bug is fixed also in the opinion
of the bug reporter, or someone from the release team agrees to lowering
the severity.

Cheers,
Andi

Could you provide the debug info Michael requested, so we can find out

We do not (in this bugreport) have a dispute over severity of those bugs

but instead requested that you refer to the bugreports, as discussing
severity of each bug is best done at those other bugreports.

Our disagreement here is on severity of *this* bug, which I interpret as

Unfortunatly, I have to agree from a release team POV (i.e. speaking

package, especially as maks spoke with his kernel arch maintainer hat
on (so his remarks shouldn't be lightly waived away).

Waive away?

this bugreport is about accumulation of bugs together raising severity
of the package in generalm right?

I requested to separate specifics, by referring to bugreports related to
the issues raised (or, obviously, file bugreports if not reported
already).

There are several reasons for this request:

  * Original bugreporters of each issue, and participants in discussions
surrounding each bug, are included in this renewed discussion - but only
in the parts of the discussion relevant to them

  * It is easier (for me, at least) to keep track at the various parts of
the discussion if not muddled together.

One might discuss about the adequate severity of the individual bugs,
but they together makes this package RC buggy. (Perhaps even some of the
individual bugs make it - we can discuss that at the individual bug
reports if wanted.)

Yes, please do!

But there are some cases like brutal hardcoding -
breaks ony every new linux image either due to /proc, /sys or
/boot/config hardcoded parsing see #443821 for the latest 2.6.23
variation which are *not* fixed by adjusting to the current kernel, but
we expect some flexibility and robustness as long term strategy.

I shall fork this as a separate bugreport, and comment on it there.

This isn't a final opinion on yaird, but please don't lower the severity
of this bug report until either this bug is fixed also in the opinion
of the bug reporter, or someone from the release team agrees to lowering
the severity.

I shall respect your judgement representing the release team.

speaking as debian kernel arch maintainer none of aboves topic
saw an improvement since etch release,
thus i'm asking to keep yaird out of testing.

I find it relevant to discuss bugs in yaird. Also wether or not yaird is
fit for release based on the accumulation of bugs. But it makes best
sense to me keeping those discussions separate.

I asked you to please refer to bugreports regarding the issues raised
here, but sadly you only found it important to claim importance, not
help clarify the sanity of that imortance.

I have now forked bugreports for each of the issues raised here (and
will afterwards merge with existing bugreports as relevant, to make
other bugreporters and -participants aware of this metabug). Please let
us discuss the details of each individual bug as such, and at this
bugreport only discuss the metabug that is caused by them all judged
together.

Not for everyone...

My system freezes when the X server is started and the version of fglrx
from unstable is used. The version of fglrx currently in testing works
 fine.

Hum..
The first time I switched to this release, the X server froze too, but it went
ok after a full restart..

However, the driver works for others (like me), besides its bad resolutions
and all previous bugs of course...

Bug#455685: Splashy makes GDM initscript fail (and hence, leaves system on VT1)

2007-12-22 Thread Steve Fosdick
I have had the same issue with gdm not starting when splashy is installed.

I have checked line 178 of /etc/lsb-base-logging.sh but in the version
installed on my system this line is a comment so I can not see how, in my case,
that line could be causing the error.

The failure mechanism seems to be that /etc/init.d/gdm has performed 'set -e'
so that any command that fails, even if there is no error message or the
message is surpressed by re-directing to /dev/null, will cause /etc/init.d/gdm
to stop executing at that point. With splashy installed and its corresponding
/etc/lsb-base-logging.sh the log_daemon_msg subroutine is failing and thus
aborting /etc/init.d/gdm.

I haven't had a chance to work through all the commands splashy is running but
perhaps there are some assumptions there that don't hold true. For example, in
my case, splashy was installed because it was recommended by uswsusp and is
therefore used for the suspend/resume progress screen but I have not yet got
around to setting it up for normal startup/shutdown.

Anyway, for now, I have been able to work around this patching
/etc/lsb-base-logging.sh as follows:

diff -u lsb-base-logging-orig.sh lsb-base-logging.sh
--- lsb-base-logging-orig.sh2007-12-22 17:09:34.0 +
+++ lsb-base-logging.sh 2007-12-22 17:03:52.0 +
@@ -118,7 +118,7 @@

 # Stop splashy on *dm
 case $2 in
-   ?dm) stop_splashy;;
+   ?dm) stop_splashy || return 0 ;;
 esac
 }

So even if attempting to stop splashy fails gdm still starts.

HTH,
Steve.

Package: hal-info
Version: 20071212-1
Severity: grave

After the last upgrade of hal-info, network manager fails to find any
network device only reporting the error message mentioned in the subject
(no network device has been found) when clicking on the ex nm-applet
icon. (Note that this happens even with the network device not being
mentioned in /etc/network/interfaces as required by network-manager.)

Downgrading hal-info to the testing version (20071030-1) fixes the
problem.

I presume (though I haven't checked) that for finding the network
interfaces which are not listed in /etc/network/interfaces to be
managed, network manager does some lookup via hal, which fails due to
some hal-info breakage. Hence, I think that the other way of using
network-manager via /etc/network/interfaces suggested in
/usr/share/doc/network-manager/README.Debian (namely, to list the
desired interfaces as auto and with dhcp) works, but I haven't tried
that.

My (wireless) network card is an Intel as described below by lspci:

06:05.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network
Connection (rev 05)
Subsystem: Intel Corporation Unknown device 2702
Control: I/O- Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV+ VGASnoop- ParErr-
Stepping- SERR+ FastB2B-
Status: Cap+ 66MHz- UDF- FastB2B+ ParErr- DEVSEL=medium TAbort-
TAbort- MAbort- SERR- PERR-
Latency: 32 (750ns min, 6000ns max), Cache Line Size: 32 bytes
Interrupt: pin A routed to IRQ 20
Region 0: Memory at b0204000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=4K]
Capabilities: access denied

and works properly (without network-manager / hal) with the ipw2200
kernel module.

Severity grave since I bet other people with the same Intel card will
have a network shortage upon installing the current package version.

Thanks in advance,
Cheers.

Bug#432755: long term solution for flashplugin-nonfree in stable

2007-12-22 Thread Moritz Muehlenhoff
Bart Martens wrote:
The approach that is, in my opinion, closest to reality, is to maintain
flashplugin-nonfree in unstable, allow it to enter testing, keep
flashplugin-nonfree out of stable and oldstable, and maintain a working
package of flashplugin-nonfree for Debian stable at backports.org .
Then users of Debian stable can edit their sources.list once and then
 forget about flashplugin-nonfree.

That appears the least worst option.

IMO we should concentrate on gnash and remove flashplugin-nonfree
from the archive. We still have 6 months before a freeze, so it can be
hopefully brought in shape by then.

Cheers,
Moritz

Bug#457459: acpi modules

2007-12-22 Thread maximilian attems
it is critical on differnt boxes to load the acpi modules *first*,
before doing any other hardware setup. especialy true on i386 and amd64
boxes, please prioritize the fix of that bug.

you find the initramfs-tools entries in hooks/thermal.

i'll respond to the other bugs later, as none of them
has the hardware damaging consequences of that one.

Package: linux-2.6
Version: 2.6.18-5
Severity: grave
Forwarded: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

sparc64 kernels produces unkillable dpkg-query processes (only seen in a
buildd environment yet). Each process sucks one cpu and 3GiB of memory.
Even the OOM killer is not able to kill them.

This problem exists up to 2.6.21 (and most likely also .22) and makes it
mostly impossible to run a reliable buildd.

The problem was forwarded to upstream[1] but no response yet.

Package: libc6
Version: 2.5-9
Arch: sparc64
Severity: important

Hello,

I have seen a lot of troubles with all programs that use threads on a
Sun U80/smp running debian testing.

clamd, bind, milter-greylist, mimedefang, fail2ban and a lot of other
multithreaded programs stop with dead lock. They don't die, but remain
in sleep state (mutex trouble ?). This trouble appear when I have
installed libc6 2.5-9. Kernel is 2.6.20.11.

Regards,

JKB

Bug#457507: zoneminder: installs files into /usr/local

2007-12-22 Thread Russ Allbery
Package: zoneminder
Version: 1.22.3-9
Severity: serious
Justification: Policy 9.1.2

It looks like something went wrong with the most recent build of zoneminder
and all of its Perl modules were installed into /usr/local. I haven't
checked the source package, but usually this is due to not passing the
right flags into the Perl module build.

Oops. Looks like I ought to have run an apt-file search, doesn't it.

I've just packaged a new version, timelimit-1.1-2, which just adds
a Conflicts: netpipes line, and sent an RFS to debian-mentors.

Thanks a lot for spotting this!

Bug#456399: [PATCH] [EVAL] Fix unaligned trap on sparc

dash dies on sparc with a SIGBUS due to an arithmetic error introduced
with commit 03b4958, this patch fixes it.

Thanks for catching this! I really hate gcc's void * arithmetic
extension.

/* Reserve one extra spot at the front for shellexec. */
 - argv = nargv = stalloc(sizeof (char *) * (argc + 2)) + 1;
 + argv = nargv = ((char **)stalloc(sizeof (char *) * (argc + 2))) + 1;

BTW, I've modified this slightly to remove the need to cast.

Cheers,

Bug#370366: more about this old bug

2007-12-22 Thread Anibal Avelar
I don't sure, but it sounds like problems with VISUALS with Xorg.

I can't test it because is unreproducible for me.

Please, could test this:

export XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1
skippy

I mean to define the var XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS before starts skippy.

May be is problems with especific video cards. But this variable we
can avoid this.

Regards.

Did you try removing the PGP bundle as suggested in the last message of

Package: device-tree-compiler
Version: 0.1~git20070226-1
Severity: grave

The version that is currently in experimental is not usable anymore with
newer kernels (too old) and last week version 1.0 was tagged.

This might be a better point to start than a git snapshot.
