Bug#658782: RFS: libapr-memcache0 -- apr_memcache is a client for memcached

2012-02-08 Thread Ansgar Burchardt
Hi,

[ I have no intention to sponsor this package. ]

 libapr-memcache0 (0.7.0-3)  stable; urgency=low

   * Switched to stable release

No, please read about the use of the different suites in Debian and how
packages migrate between them. [1] has a short description in the
second half of the section.

Also please don't include the ABI version in the source package name
unless you know why you want to do so.

(Personally I also don't see a use in having multiple changelog entries
for the initial upload, but other people might have a different opinion
about this.)

Regards,
Ansgar

 a kind of limbo status.

Well, normally, if you intend to adopt an orphaned package, you retitle
its O: bug into ITA: (Intent to Adopt IIRC) and change its owner to
yourself. The sponsorship has nothing to do with this process.

Re: Providing a non-free alternative to a free package

2012-02-08 Thread Björn Esser
How about doing it like it's done with the unrar package:

According to packages.debian.org there are two pkgs.

unrar
unrar-free

So I'd suggest name the free one slalib and the other one
slalib-nonfree or vice versa (like the unrar example).

Cheers,

Björn

2012/2/8 Olе Streicher debian-de...@liska.ath.cx:
 Hi,

 the library I am working on in the moment (slalib,
 http://bugs.debian.org/659003) is an quite old Fortran library with a
 C interface and some (performance) drawbacks. This library is GPL and
 meets the DFSG guidelines.

 There is another version of this library available, where the (C)
 sources are available (and put under GPL), but obfuscated, so that they
 cannot go into main but would have to go into non-free. However, I
 am thinking about packaging this version as well.

 However, there would be a conflict for the library names. How would one
 solve this?

 Best

If it is obfuscated, then it is most probably not the preferred form of
modification (and not the real source, but something derived from that),
thus, them being GPL'd is invalid, and it's not even fit for non-free,
as far as I see.

I mean, if I write a program in C, and distribute the x86 assembly
generated by gcc, and try to sell that as GPL (without providing access
to the original C source), that's essentially the same thing, and won't
work.

It builds the single binary package 'auralquiz'.

Or pulled from the pkg-games git repo:

Looks good. However I would

1. Simplify d/changelog. No-one cares I did work on this package
initially. Redo d/changelog with only one entry.
2. remove quilt reference from d/rules this is undeeded (thanks to
d/source/format).
3. Prefer DEP5 for copyright
4. I think you can remove d/dirs file
5. Prefer DEP3 for d/patches/*
6. rework d/watch file, you are supposed to use regex to find out the
latest possible version
7. I see VCS urls in d/control but they do not reflect the latest of
your package, right ?
8. In d/control, you do not need explicit ref to quilt (again thanks
to d/source/format)

As a side note I see ref to tcl8.4 which is about to be removed AFAIK

2012-02-08 Thread Werner Detter
Hi everybody

I've received an email from Thomas. He proposed that it would make sense to
have not only one sponsor for my package but maybe two So if one is busy
the other one can do the sponsoring.

Thomas had no time to upload my package which I've uploaded on Januar 24th.
But he suggested to ask on the mentors list for a second sponsor :)

So I'm asking the list if any DD could sponsor this upload for me? In principal
the new package includes little fixes with the init-script, and closes a bug.

Thanks for your help.

Aha, I see. In this case... well, I don't think there's a solution
that's entirely satisfactory.

The closest thing I can think of, is that one is called libfooN, while
the other libfooN-nonfree, they conflict replace each other, and both
provide the same filenames. So far, it's easy.

The hard part is making sure that dpkg-shlibdeps does the right thing,
and produces dependencies like libfooN (= blah) | libfooN-nonfree (=
blah). I'll leave this part as an excercise for the reader. ;)

I finally found time to actually install the software and play a bit
with it. I have to admit that I am deeply disappointed. I spent maybe 5
minutes and I saw:

- tooltips in French;
- tooltips in German;
- dialog boxes in French;
- *lots* of error messages in French;
- an error box with no message at all (!);
- unhandled exceptions in Basic code.

(Mind you, I don't speak French or German and I've never configured my
system or LibreOffice to use any of these languages.)

This is not the kind of quality I expect from software that is in
Debian. I am not willing to sponsor this package.

You can still add a target in your debian/rules file to avoid doing it
too many times :). See [1] for explanation for example about
get-orig-source target.

I read it a again, and it could useful for an other package:
does someone know Debian packages using get-orig-source in d/rules ?

Thanks in advance,

 A license like MIT or Expat or another free non-copyleft license would
 work. However, as it is now, Debian cannot comply with the license
 terms to distribute the work at all, so it cannot go even into
 non-free.

Is slalib the contents of libraries/sla/ in the repository you linked to?
If so, it appears the current upstream is not the sole copyright holder, and
there are many other contributors dating from 2004 for sla, and 1989 for the
project as a whole (counting only versioned history). This means, it is
illegal to distribute the obfuscated version for anyone (including current
upstream), and anyone who buys the unobfuscated one can pass it further
under GPL.

(This is only from looking at the version control, it's possible the
proprietary version was correctly unliberated.)

Bug#659207: RFS: tth [ITA] -- TeX/LaTeX to HTML converter

2012-02-08 Thread Jerome Benoit
Package: sponsorship-requests
Severity: normal

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package tth.

 * Package name: tth
   Version : 4.03-1
   Upstream Author : Ian Hutchinson ihu...@mit.edu
 * URL : http://sourceforge.net/projects/tth/
 * License : GPL-2+
   Section : tex

It builds those binary packages:

  tth - TeX/LaTeX to HTML converter
  tth-common - Scripts common to tth and ttm
  ttm - TeX/LaTeX to MathML converter

To access further information about this package, please visit the following
URL:

  http://mentors.debian.net/package/tth

Alternatively, one can download the package with dget using this command:

  dget -x http://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/t/tth/tth_4.03-1.dsc

I would be glad if someone uploaded this package for me.

Kind regards,
Jerome BENOIT

Re: creating an orig.tar.gz from a CVS

2012-02-08 Thread Boris Pek
Hi Jerome,

 does someone know Debian packages using get-orig-source in d/rules ?

For example you can look at my package:
https://github.com/tehnick/libterm-shellui-perl-debian/blob/master/debian/rules

Nothing difficult. You can add any script or list of commands to get-orig-source
section of makefile.

Best regards,
Boris
