Bug#1072802: Subject: RFS: lsix/1.8.2-1 [ITP] -- Show thumbnails in terminal using sixel graphics

2024-06-07 Thread Blair Noctis
Package: sponsorship-requests
Severity: wishlist

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package "lsix":

 * Package name : lsix
   Version : 1.8.2-1
   Upstream contact : hackerb9
 * URL  : https://github.com/hackerb9/lsix
 * License  : GPL-3.0
 * Vcs  : https://github.com/hackerb9/lsix
   Section : utils

It's a simple shell script that calls ImageMagick's montage program to render a
low-definition version of images, then does sixel processing on its own.

The source package builds a single binary package that install the script to
/usr/bin.

See it on mentors.d.n: https://mentors.debian.net/package/lsix/

Alternatively, you can download the package with 'dget' using this command:

  dget -x
  https://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/l/lsix/lsix_1.8.2-1~mentor1.dsc

Changes for the initial release:

 lsix (1.8.2-1~mentor1) unstable; urgency=medium
 .
   * Initial release. (Closes: #1072801)

`~mentor1` was added to distinguish between mentors.d.n uploads and archive
ones, thus its absence in the subject and pseudo-headers.

Thank you.

I don't know about python team policies, but the debian/ namespace is a special
namespace for collabarative maintainance of packages. If it is in this
namespace, it says: everyone is invited to help maintaining.
https://wiki.debian.org/Salsa/Doc#Collaborative_Maintenance:_.22Debian.22_group

I like this concept very much, so I would find it a pity if it is moved to the
python
team namespace. But as said, I dont know their policies about this aspect.

FWWIW, I've granted you access rights to the repository in the debian namespace.

Note, if you decide to move it into the python team namespace, ask the salsa
admins
to move it, instead of creating another repository.

Hi Nilson,

it seems that upstream has released a new upstream version (2.4.2) recently.
I'm wondering if it would make sense to update the packaging to this version or
if there
are special reasons to stick to the older one?

(Marking this bug moreinfo until you've gave feedback; just to avoid

Regarding one thing my eye spotted:

You write:

however, #1002341 is fixing a FTBFS, so it does not "match" the entry. I guess

Bug#1010791: (no subject)

2022-05-14 Thread Breno Leitao

Package was finally uploaded to debian, and it is showing up in the
ftpmaster NEW queue now

https://ftp-master.debian.org/new.html

The next step is waiting for the ftpmaster to review the package for
final inclusion in the debian archive.

Then, If everything is OK, I _think_ I will need to re-upload the
package in the source format (dpkg-buildpackage -S), so it can go to
stable, and we are good!

Thanks for you work, Salim!
Happy hacking!

Bug#1010791: (no subject)

2022-05-12 Thread Breno Leitao

Thanks for packaging this tool Michel. I gave it a try and this tool is
quite useful.

I've looked at the packaging and script, and they are sane. I will be
sponsoring this package.

Bug#1009313: (no subject)

2022-04-11 Thread Thomas Ward
Can I suggest that this be rejected as it has no review from the Debian
Maintainers Team (on git or otherwise)? (I've recently been added as a
maintainer on the Git side of this for the Salsa repo, though not an
uploader *yet* with my DM rights, but as we manage this on Git VCS...
this should be a merge into the existing repo.  And as long as I get no
objections, I'm going to be working on getting 1.18.0-9 uploaded soon
because it fixes the pending serious FTBFS bug thanks to a merged pull
request on Salsa which I went through, tested, and approved for the
master branch.)

There has been zero review of any such split requests, and this really
should go via Git and merge requests and stuff.

Question to the original poster of the RFS: *why*?  NGINX packaging has
not yet adapted to things.

And to MIA/mentors: the package is not yet 'abandoned', I'm going to get
mentors sponsoring until a DD adds nginx to my uploads. (see my commits
on https://salsa.debian.org/nginx-team/nginx - i'm rapidly working on an
RC fix for the RC bug that prevents nginx from migrating to testing as
of now, since we have a rollback of the Lua module version now in Salsa)

You need to have a # in front of the bug no to close it.

Why don't you package the released version? I have not seen any
important change in upstream git to justify packaging an arbitrary commit.

You seem to repack (+ds) without using Files-Excluded in d/copyright.
Please add that including a comment why you exclude upstream files.

Hi!
How possibly the initial release can be a NMU? I see that the only
discrepancy is that debian/control has two spaces between your name and
address, debian/changelog has one.

Vcs-Browser: https://salsa.debian.org/Dami/simple-image-filte
This is 404-compliant, you should add "r" at the end.

(I haven't gone far in reviewing the stuff.)

I can understand your use but like I've just had a long talk on the
debian-user mailing list, building "franken-debian" cause many problem
with support.

There's one reason why Debian offer more stability over many other
distributions of Linux. It's because the review process is long and
complete, that it ensure there's not breaking change done and not subtle
bugs that arise.

So by creating a system that "only you may have" make it impossible for
other to reproduce errors you may have and leave yourself much on your own.

Everything is related to a balance between choices.
You get all the latest bell and whistles or
You get something stable and tested

Support for Arch Linux packages on Debian was a byproduct of makedeb, but the
main goal is to just provide an alternative to the Debian source package format.

On the topic of Arch Linux though, makedeb (and more specifically a side
project for it) gives support for the AUR, which has quite a few packages not
available in the Debian repos (most notably those with license issues).

I also use it to get some up-to-date packages from the Arch repositories on my
Ubuntu system, which helps to avoid a ton of extra repositories and PPAs.

Regardless of all that though, I think I got what I need to be able to start
somewhere.

Again, thanks for the help.

In theory, it would probably be possible to have a program which takes
as input a third-party package and transforms it into a Debian source
package, then builds that into a .deb using Debian's build tools. The
resulting intermediate-step source package could then, theoretically, be
submitted for inclusion in Debian. It would be theoretically possible
for something like makedeb to be modified to use that method, rather
than producing .debs directly.

In practice this would be unlikely to produce an acceptable source-based
build (because of the "preferred form for modification" rule), so it'd
only be viable for things that would have to go into non-free because of
being opaque binary blobs to begin with - and for those I'm not sure
there'd be much benefit from such a tool. But I'm not willing to
entirely exclude it from first concepts.

Just checked the number of package for distributions
Arch : 11 978 (based on https://archlinux.org/packages/ )
Debian : Over 20 000 (based on https://ircbots.debian.net/stats/ )

I'm asking myself how many package are only available in Arch and not in
DebianBecause if they are available in Ubuntu or whatever distro
using debian package then it's easy to compile without changes.

The complete build system is based on a .dsc file and this does more
than only run a gcc build on your application or package it into a
.tar.gz file !

This is what I called "Debian rules" for package :
https://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/developers-reference/best-pkging-practices.en.html

For example the file called "watch" is used to check if you published a
new version of your software and build it if needed, all automatic.

Maybe this could be useful for you :

Like I already wrote, there's much to read before your package get
submitted. And you question is showing exactly this

You don't submit binary, you submit a source code and automatic build
machine (computer) will produce the different binaries for all the
architectures used by Debian, will do some validation, etc.

So yes a .DSC is needed as it's the basic.

Have you ever tried using dh_make ?

Have you tried compiling some package from Debian ??

Do the following :

mkdir tmp
cd tmp
apt-get source emacs
cd emacs-*
debuild

and see the magic happens.
In the end you'll get a .build file.
Open this one and look at the lines around the end of file.
You'll see some testing done against the binary package to ensure it is
compliant with the rules Debian enforced for package.

Make you shall start from there (oh yes and RTFM Debian New Maintainer
Guide / Developer).

So... are you trying to get makedeb into Debian, or just the packages
which makedeb creates?

If you want to get makedeb into Debian, then you'll need to build a
Debian source package for it. Since the source is GPLv3, there's no
obvious reason why it would need to go into non-free; if (as I suspect
is likely) the package formats it is capable of taking as input are
created by and are available containing software which is itself
DFSG-compliant, there's probably also no reason why it would need to go
into contrib. At that point, it would fit into main.

If on the other hand you want to get the packages created by makedeb
into Debian, you're probably out of luck. In order to get into Debian, a
package must start out in the form which is called a Debian source
package; that's the form that includes a .dsc, et cetera. From there, it
must be compiled into a .deb on the build-daemon (buildd) servers, by
the usual Debian package-build mechanisms which take source packages as
their input.

That would be the fact that the people who manage the Debian archive,
and I think nowadays the tooling they use to do so, will not accept
anything other than a source package as input for going into that archive.

If you want a reference link for it, [1] was the first thing I found; it
explains the reasons behind requiring a source package well enough, and
does also state that one is required for entry into the Debian archive,
although it doesn't explain why for that latter. I don't find a
reference link for that latter myself just offhand, but it's been
discussed in these mailing lists often enough.

makedeb is licensed under the GPL3 license.

The goal was to be able to just distribute the binary form of the packages, as
that's all that I get/use when I build it myself (the helper application,
makepkg, handles all the source files, and the rest is just built into a binary
package with makedeb itself).

> There's rule regarding GPL software and packaging that must be followed...

I was looking at the following in the Debian Policy, which was leading me to
believe it would be fine:

"The non-free archive area contains supplemental packages intended to work with
the Debian distribution that do not comply with the DFSG or have other problems
that make their distribution problematic."

In this case the problems would be lack of a source package. Is there someplace
else that says GPL programs have to be distributed under source packages?

> I'd also suggest that you publish your package somewhere on a public server.

As per the repository on GitHub, I've also got a repository and a complimentary
signing key set up. Albeit the repository itself is managed through an
Artifactory-type program, I'm decently knowledgeable on the layout of Debian
repositories themselves.

I do think I need to get my package set up to be compliant though, such as the
section and priority for it, but I don't see that taking more than a few
minutes to set everything in the control file.

To be honest, I chose the license based on examples from other packaged
libraries. These files was unlicensed, so I had to chose something.

I fully agree, it will be more convenient to set LGPL2.1+, if it is

I changed the license to LGPL2.1 now. If Cyril says, I'll update it again.

@Cyril: Would it be OK for you to license the Debian directory of
the package libwcat1 LGPL2.1+?

- The package needs to be adapted for multiarch: It needs to install the
  shared libaries to /usr/lib/${DEB_HOST_MULTIARCH}/

(not a requirement for upload of this package:
The library package has also a companion tool package: watchcatd [1].
It is also orphaned. Would you mind adopting this too?)

Please feedback / fix the above and then remove the moreinfo tag to indicate
that it is ready for a second look.

PS: I've updated the subject and force-merged the old bug.
Please note that it is customary NOT to open up a new RFS on the same package
until it has been sponsored. In this case you'd reopen only the old one. Please
keep that in mind for future iterations. You can avoid that the bug is auto-
closed by just uploading the new version to mentors; there should be no need to
delete the old one before.

In NEW (as it's re-introduction of the package).

Working around a problem with mentors.d.n is not relevant for uploading to
the actual archive -- but as we need a -2 anyway, I've uploaded as-is.

Thanks for your work!

From my side, the only thing that I would have to say about the new
release, is that since there is now an upstream testsuite, it would be
good to have an autopkgtest.
Apart from that, I notice that some of my previous comments have not
been applied, but those are not new by definition :)

I reckon that asking for review of a small package is indeed a great way
to learn; nevertheless, thank you for thinking more deeply about the
package and retract the RFS.

I would have also wanted to ask you to close this RFS, but I see bartm's
script is too quick these days, removing the package as soon as you
removed it from mentors u.U

2020-05-31 Thread Vasyl Gello
Dear Mattia and Matthew!

First of all I would like to thank you for all the efforts you did to teach me
how to do proper Debian packaging.
Your reviews made me rethink some practices I followed and it already helps me
in my activities outside of Debian.

Yesterday I found out the original Cryptopass Chrome extension is no longer
maintained and its repository archived.
While I fixed the issues spotted in previous reviews and pushed the new
upstream version 1.1.0 and corresponding
Debian repo on Salsa, I would like to withdraw the package from the queue.

Earlier I mentioned the passwordmaker-cli package I found long after I wrote
cryptopass. Its Android app is actively
maintained, in contrast to the CLI sources, so I will likely propose the fixes
incorporating cryptopass scheme into
Password Maker (https://www.passwordmaker.org). Once there is new upstream
release, I will coordinate with
Cord Beermann (the pm-cli maintainer) to have it packaged.

I do still appreciate additional reviews on packaging and security of
cryptopass, because I thought it could be a great
example of "making a small pavkage to learn Debian packaging". Maybe I will
even write a series of blog posts about
Debian packaging and my experience with it.

Sincerely,

Overall it's looking good, I am uploading it. Some minor advice:

* Please consider installing /usr/lib/*/libtpms.a in the -dev package. Someone
may prefer using the static library for their development.

The package will have to go through the NEW queue for manual review. You will
receive the result later through e-mail when the review finishes.

Bug#958364: Subject: RFS: libtpms/0.8.0~dev1-1 [ITP] -- TPM emulation library

2020-04-21 Thread Boyuan Yang
Control: tags -1 +moreinfo

Hi Seunghun,

Thanks for working on libtpms packaging in Debian and taking over maintenance.
I sponsored the previous upload at
https://ftp-master.debian.org/new/libtpms_0.7.0-1.html .

After looking into your packaging, I think there are some issues as listed
below. Please consider solving them and remove the "moreinfo" tag afterwards.

* This one is critical: With new package, *NEVER* override dh_usrlocal in
debian/rules file. Debian package should not ship files under /usr/local/. If
there are special reasons about handling /usr/local/, I'd be happy to know it.

* Please consider using "include /usr/share/dpkg/architecture.mk" instead of
manual invocation of dpkg-architecture to get the value of DEB_HOST_MULTIARCH
variable in debian/rules file.

* The "--with autoreconf" parameter is useless now since it is the default for
debhelper compatibility level 12.

* Please strip all old changelogs entries from debian/changelog; those old
parts are not part of Debian.

* This one is also critical: Please do not list ${misc:Pre-Depends} in the
Depends: field of libtpms0. Normally this variable substitution is not needed
now; if you really needed, please use "Pre-Depends: ${misc:Pre-Depends}"
instead.

* With your current debian/*.install files, there are absolutely no necessity
to build-depends on dh-exec. Please remove such dependency and remove
corresponding shebang in *.install files.

Let me know after you finish all those tweaks or if you have any questions.

Generally I think the package is overall ok. There is only one problem: some
files within the repo are licensed under LGPL-2.1+ instead of LGPL-3+. Could
you please update the debian/copyright file to reflect such information?

Besides I think it's ready for upload.

I have made a little Maths 24 game in Python and Qt and would love to have
it included in the Debian repo.

The game is on github . I
have used Python's stdeb automatic packager. I woud like helping make this
package ready for Debian's repo.

Maths 24 is the generic name, not the brand name.

Dear mentors,

  * Section: net

The SCTPLIB library is a prototype implementation of the Stream Control
Transmission Protocol (SCTP), a message-oriented reliable transport
protocol that supports multi-homing, and multiple message streams
multiplexed within an SCTP connection (also named association). SCTP is
described in RFC 4960. See https://www.uni-due.de/~be0001/sctplib/ for
details. The API of the library is modeled after Section 10 of RFC 4960,
and most parameters and functions should be self-explanatory to the user
familiar with this document. In addition to these interface functions
between an Upper Layer Protocol (ULP) and an SCTP instance, the library
also provides a number of helper functions that can be used to manage
callbacks and timers, as well as UDP sockets for simple IPC.
Furthermore, SCTPLIB provides support for UDP encapsulation, making it
possible to co-exist with kernel SCTP implementations.

"sctplib " builds these binary
packages:

  * libsctplib1 - User-space implementation of the SCTP protocol RFC 4960
  * libsctplib-dev - Headers and libraries of the user-space SCTP
implementation SCTPLIB
  * sctplib-docs - Documentation of the user-space SCTP implementation
SCTPLIB

Alternatively, one can download the package with dget using this command:

dget -x

You don't, but the person signing the upload must upload a source+binary
rather than source only. And, because of a recent rule change, this
currently takes two uploads, at least until there's some infrastructure
to auto-rebuild which hasn't been agreed upon yet.

I've just tried to upload source-only anyway, and as expected, it failed.
Thus, we need to do it the hard way. Uploaded, in NEW. Let's get it
through before Christmas. :þ

4.3.0 actually. Not that anyone really cares about those, but changing _to_
an ancient version raises eyebrows.

> * Bump debhelper compat level to 11.

You use compat 12, yet the dependency is only >= 11.

Please either make it ">= 12~", or, better, drop debian/compat and use the
new-style "Depends: debhelper-compat (=12)". This doesn't suffer from
unsightly ~ nor the reason for it (backports).

But... I think the changelog should include at least two other important
bits:
1. you nuked the old packaging and rewritten it. Nice!
2. non-free -> main.  Awesome!

Alas, the second part is specially important as it requires a trip through
NEW, for copyright review.

Also, the actual program doesn't seem to work for me. XFCE, compositor on,
two monitors (2560x1600 and 1200x1600), amdgpu, 64 cores. Trying to toggle
"fullscreen" or "below" _briefly_ spawns some snow, then nothing; no other
setting appears to do anything.

To be honest, I'm quite new at creating official Debian packages and I'm not
really familiar with how uploads to the Debian repository work. I would be very
happy if my work could be backed by the Python team.

What should I do to have it accepted by the Python team?

wxMaxima is a powerful GUI for Maxima, a computer Algebra System
that allows to do symbolic maths as well as maths with floating-point
and arbitrary-length numbers.

One example:
(%i1)   y=sin(x);
(%o1) y=sin(x)
(%i2)   solve(%,x);
solve: using arc-trig functions to get a solution.
Some solutions will be lost.
(%o2) [x=asin(y)]

More information about wxmaxima can be obtained from

Changes since the last upload:

"Search and replace" was broken if "Match Case" wasn't selected and
the new string differed in length from the old one.

Bug#880411: Subject: RFS: sqldeveloper-package/0.4.4

2017-11-18 Thread Lazarus Long
The NMU is for a version from Nov 2012. After that I've had 0.3.0 for over
5 years before the specific bug has been created.

The bug was fixed in version 0.4.0 (where one can find it's
acknowledgement). I'm not sure if or how my log should or could include the
NMU entry. If I put it in version order the patch is removed in the
immediate version and the NMU is 5 years newer than the following version,
if I put it in date order the NMU version is out of sequence and impossible
to patch in-between the previous and the following ones.

The fact is that the NMU became a fork of an older version, that is out of,
and irrelevant for, my timeline.

Bug#877784: Subject: RFS: wxmaxima/17.10.0-1

2017-10-05 Thread Gunter Königsmann
Package: sponsorship-requests
Severity: normal

Dear mentors,

I am looking for a sponsor for my package "wxmaxima"

 * Package name: wxmaxima
   Version : 17.10.0-1
   Upstream Author : Andrej Vopodivec
 * URL : http://andrejv.github.io/
 * License : GPL
   Section : math

It builds those binary packages:

wxmaxima - GUI for the computer algebra system Maxima

wxMaxima is a powerful graphical front-end for maxima, a Computer
Algebra System,
in other words: For a program that does actually calculate symbolically
instead of
with numbers. Even if it supports calculating with floating-point (using the
numerical coprocessor or floats with a user-specified precision), exact
rational
numbers (arbitrary length integers, roots and fractions), if needed.

One example:

(%i1)   tst: a^2+b^2=c^2;
(tst) b^2+a^2=c^2
(%i2)   sol:solve(tst,a);
(sol) [a=-sqrt(c^2-b^2),a=sqrt(c^2-b^2)]
(%i3)   integrate(sol,b);
(%o3)
[a*b=-(c^2*asin(b/abs(c)))/2-(b*sqrt(c^2-b^2))/2+%c1,a*b=(c^2*asin(b/abs(c)))/2+(b*sqrt(c^2-b^2))/2+%c2]

The current version incorporates a drastic speed boost, mouseover
tooltips for
the more exotic of maxima's error messages, support to export 2D maths
as DVG,
Literally hundreds of bug-fixes, antialiassing for lines...
A longer changeLog for the new upstream release reads:

  * Jump to the char containing the error on encountering unmatched
parenthesis.
  * Try to place the cursor near the error in all other cases.
  * Attempt to mark the whole error message in red. This is bound to fail in
some cases as maxima sometimes only sends part of an error message
through
the error() command. But it is better than nothing.
  * Detect and mark most warnings.
  * A "evaluate cells below" right-click-menu item.
  * Autosave now even works for unsaved documents adding them to the
"recent documents" list if needed.
  * Big parenthesis are now drawn using unicode characters, if available.
  * Nicer integral, Product and Sum signs, optionally including
antialiassing
even if no font provides them.
  * MouseOver tooltips for some of the more exotic worksheet items.
  * A "Copy as svg" function that is as good as wxSVGFileDc allows us to be.
  * Worksheet objects now can provide their own ToolTips.
  * Config Dialogue: An editor for the startup file.
  * It is now possible to select which formats "Ctrl+C" should place data on
the clipboard in.
  * Now multiple animations can run concurrently and can be told to
autostart.
  * A menu entry that allows to select 1D and ASCII Art Maths
  * Recent files that currently don't exist are grayed out now.
  * A command-line switch that triggers evaluation on startup of wxMaxima
  * Many Bug Fixes and Performance improvements.

The debian package is lintian-clean on my computer.
Unfortunately on mentors.debian.net both my watch file and the one
from the uscan manpage/https://wiki.debian.org/debian/watch#GitHub
seem not to work => I would appreciate any help in this point.

Alternatively, one can download the package with dget using this command:

  dget -x
https://mentors.debian.net/debian/pool/main/w/wxmaxima/wxmaxima_17.10.0-1.dsc

More information about hello can be obtained from http://andrejv.github.io/

Changes since the last upload:

  * New upstream release with many new features, bugfixes and performance
improvements.
  * Switched the build system to cmake replacing the dependency to
dh-autoreconf
by the dependency to cmake.
  * Bumped the standards version to 3.9.8
  * debian/rules: Cleaned up override_dh_auto_build and
override_dh_auto_install
  * debian/control: wxMaxima doesn't depend on a specific version of
maxima and
maxima-doc.
  * debian/control: There is a good fallback for a missing fonts-jsmath.
maxima-doc isn't necessary for running wxMaxima and the type of pdf
animations texlive-latex-extra was needed for are no more
supported by any major pdf viewer => Changed these packages to
"suggested".
  * debian/control: Dropped the dependency to ImageMagick, perl and texinfo
which are no more used.
  * debian/copyright: wxmathml.lisp has been replaced by wxmathml.lisp.in
  * debian/watch: github is the new project location.
  * Tried to make the watch file work again.
  * Dropped all patches as they were upstreamed.
  * Added a Patch that updates the location of appdata.xml

Your debian/rules includes, commented out, the pre-dh version. Could you
please remove that?

Also, there's no mention in the changelog about conversion to 3.0 (quilt),
that's a notable change.
