GSoC 2018 - Hello mentors

2018-02-14 Thread Vishal Gupta
Greetings Mentors,

My name is Vishal Gupta and I'm a 3rd year CSE undergrad.
I'd like to work on project no.6 : Click To Dial Popup Window for the Linux
Desktop

I'm a Python developer and as a Debian-lover tired of clicking tel: links
in vain, I'd really like to work on this idea and I'm confident I can build
the same with your guidance.

Additionally I'd also like to tweak KDE-Connect
to raise a dailer intent (on
the Android
app
)
in order to place the call on the user's phone and if possible, stream the
call to the desktop.

Thank you.

Hello Mentors,

I am Nitish Kumar Dwivedi, CS Undergrad at Institute of Engineering and
Technology, DAVV. I am really excited to see Debian as mentoring
Organization this Summer of Code.
I want to contribute to project"Wizard/GUI helping students/interns to
apply and get started". I have good programming skills with python, C++
and have some experience in developing GUI desktop application earlier.
So, this project will be best fit for me.

I have already started to work on Application task and pushing code in
github repository.
Looking forward to work with Debian this Summer of Code.
Thank You.

Thank You.

Hello Mentors!

My name is Manas Kashyap, currently a student in the fourth semester in AMITY

Packaging modules for Debian.

It's very exciting to see Debian in the Organisations list for GSoC 2018. I am
quite excited about contributing to the open
source community and have a great respect for the community for building
Projects.

I have already selected the Project- "Port Kali package to Debian", This
project doesn't have any mentor at the moment.
But it would be a great help from Mentors if anyone mentor me for this project.
This would be the best project for me to work upon as I have some experience on
packaging modules for Debian.

Unfortunately, I couldn't be at FOSDEM.

For the Social event and conference calendars project, I know a project
that seems relevant : OpenEventDatabase
(https://github.com/openeventdatabase/)
Manual and functionalities already implemented :
https://github.com/openeventdatabase/backend/wiki

Ideas about this project start on OpenStreetMap datamodel versatility
(key-value for all) and the need of a database for the « when » main
axis (OSM is for the where…).

Christian Quest (OSM France ex-president) start talking about this on
2013 (on hackpad, now unavailable).
He talk about that on 2016 OSM conference :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FNwbioRjQw

The database and API start to be implemented on 2016-05.

This project already collect events from existing Open Databases, like
the « Agenda du Libre » (https://www.agendadulibre.org/) and many
OpenData French sources.

https://twitter.com/openeventdb (french)

The security and events ownership model is still simple. I have ideas to
improve contribution process and collaboration but for this moment not
writed in english…

I know that my suggestion is really late.
I hope this project will help you to reach your goal.

I’m also interested to contribute to a web front-end for the database
you choose.
And to integrate events from others data sources (pyvideo datas, local
cultural and association events…)

Bye
Fred
