Wheezy did not officially support ppc64el, it was merely a pre-release [1].

So, you'll have to go for Jessie or later for ppc64el.

Any idea where I can find a active link?

Re: Could use an explanation why Debian after Wheezy doesn’t work on eMac G4 out of the box. Tried running Debian ports Sid, but boots to a black screen.

2019-04-22 Thread aggaz
I have an eMac G4 too and it saddens me not to be able to install an up
to date operating system on it.

As far as I understand, the problem is related to video drivers.

More specifically to the fact that at some point there was a shift
towards KMS (Kernel Mode Setting) video drivers that is not compatible
with that particular machine. I suppose it is something related both to
the old radeon chipset and to the CRT monitor. But I am not sure.

If you do not need X, you can still use it in console mode. If you need
X, maybe you can use radeon drivers, but without accelleration.

I mentioned this problem to this list several years ago, but at the time
I was not able to find a real solution [1].

Up to this date, I still use Wheezy on that machine.

If someone has an idea to make it work again with sid, I am willing to
make tests. I would also like to test the new grub on that eMac, but I
did not had the will/heart to format the hard drive with the working
wheezy on it. But I will format it if it can be useful.

Hi,

Unfortunately, for the final(?) release of yaboot, the maintainers
decided to lower the load address. This broke yaboot for some Apple
hardware. And unfortunately, Debian (after wheezy) has been including
that broken yaboot. A manually patched version of yaboot that restores
yaboot to the original load address has been included in the latest
image. Please try this:

Fan/Thermal Control

This problem is solved in the latest builds of Debian Etch and will be
sorted by the time Debian 4.0 is released.

Fans will rev to full speed without proper control. This isn't dangerous
to your system - but it sure is annoying! In the meantime, the fan issue
is solved simply through loading up the correct fan modules and forcing
them to load on startup every time. In the terminal:

{{{sudo -s apt-get install powernowd cd /lib/modules/$(uname
-r)/kernel/drivers/macintosh (ls | cut -d. -f1 | xargs -n1 modprobe)
2>/dev/null lsmod | cut -d" " -f1 | grep windfarm >> /etc/modules exit}}}

Done! Fans should slow down immediately and these modules will now load
automatically for you every time you start up your system

Re: ibook G3 suddenly fails to resume after suspend with Debian wheezy

2017-05-05 Thread Richard Kuenz

hello ,

mr. elimar wrote back here but i cannot find the post anymore

i just installed debian jessie on powerbook g4 1,67 and with help of
these mate.debs here

http://ppcluddite.blogspot.it/2012/03/installing-debian-linux-on-ppc-part-iv.html

got nice 3d acelleration with the radeon chip.

problem is the laptop won't come out of suspend if i close the lid on
the powerbook.

pbbuttonsd is installed.

thank you very much,

richard

ps. another question: is radeon x800xt supported on powermac g5 (agp)?

Am 25.08.15, 03:00, schrieb Juergen Hench:

Dear Debian-for-PPC developers and users

I am using an old 2003 G3 ibook with debian wheezy (3.2.0-4-powerpc #1
Debian 3.2.68-1+deb7u3 ppc GNU/Linux), initially installed as linux
mint. It had all been working fine until yesterday when the
resume-from-suspend stopped working. I have performed an upgrade to the
current version of all installed packages. I have been using lxde and
xfce4 on the system.

There was one "anomaly" when waking up from suspend since Debian had
been installed. When closing the lid, the computer would go to suspend.
When re-opening, it would wake up for a few seconds, then go back to
suspend without user interaction. Pressing a keyboard key would then
wake it up again, and it would function fine.

Now, since the upgrade (did not note the versions I had been using
before) the system goes to suspend. When re-opening, it does power up
the screen backlight, and the caps lock key as well as num lock key LEDs
work, however, nothing else starts up, and there is no network
connection either. Thus, it is impossible to see what exactly fails. All
the remains is to turn off the power and to reboot.

I wonder if there has been any change to packages that could explain
this behavior. I have found several old posts about older Debian
versions with similar "symptoms" and have tried to exchange pbbuttonsd
for pmud. It all remains the same. No waking up from suspend anymore.

Does anyone have an ibook / powerbook G3 with the current Debian wheezy
running and suspend still works? Which packages are installed? I would
be grateful for a list. Are there any customizations needed? I do not
recall that I had to adapt any file after the installation for
suspend/resume to work. Unfortunately, now, when trying to find the
problem, I have added and removed quite some packages and the whole
thing seems to boil down do the kernel rather than the ppbuttonsd etc.
level.

Has anyone else with an ibook / pb G3 experience the same problem recently?

Any idea is appreciated

Best

Juergen

Could you please provide your /var/log/Xorg.0.log file as well as the
output from the commands "glxinfo" and "dpkg -l libgl\*". Plus, the
output of "dmesg" right after the machine has booted.

It should be possible to install a newer kernel from wheezy-backports
as well as updated MESA and X.Org drivers from there (if available).

Radeon Graphics Acceleration for Debian wheezy / Hwoto?

2017-04-03 Thread Richard Kuenz
Hello ,

i would kindly need your help.

Got a very nice Powermac 7,3 Dual CPU with a Radeon 9650 Graphics Card. The
System runs smooth and silent;

Would like to use Debian Wheezy on this Computer.

I installed it and it runs very fine, but i get no graphics acell.

Could someone here please show me a way on how to achieve this, without need of
upgrading to Jessie et. al.
 — i tried already to install firmware-linux-nonfree and then the famous
mate.debs for mesa , but this broke the system.

Thank you very much,

Wish you a great day,

Richard

Re: problems with wheezy and xbmc

2017-03-23 Thread Richard Kuenz

Thanks,

well, i basically never had problems with wheezy, besides minor issues.

also on powerpc wheezy was stable ; with jessie a whole different story,

so i try to stick with what works well for my hardware ... but i see
cannot remain indefinitely on older software.
did already upgrade but then i did no more have graphical accelleration
on jessie with nouveau(don't know why though) and had to install custom
kernel to boot into GUI. - plus if i had gnome installed, i had to
install kde first, then remove gnome, just to enter gui.

otherwise it would say "oh no, something happened.." and i am no lemming.
+ if i would install on powermac jessie directly from dvd, for some
reason i was not able to install firefox extensions, which is really odd.

this debian is just a wonderful experience hope to find a workaround for
wheez

someone in the kodi forum already told me about mesa something, but your
mentioned driver-package seem awailable only from jessie-backports onto sid.
what to do then?
and , if install this mesa thing, would this break something in graphics,
because outside of xbmc and mpv it looks really good with this graphics.

No idea. Any good reason for not running Jessie?

I see that vdpau-va-driver in wheezy does NOT include nouveau_drv_video.soA

Starting in jessie it exists in the package.

I found the rescue install option in an Ubuntu install.Debian and Ubuntu are
basically identical except for the GUI. I use the install-free option (or
something like that).

When you boot from the Jessie install CD, hit tab at the yaboot prompt. Should
be a rescue option listed among others. So simply type rescue and hit Enter.
Once booted into rescue mode, it'll feel like you are working through a normal
install until you get to the step where you'll be asked what drive/partition
you want to mount to make changes on. Your choice will vary depending on how
you partitioned the drive during the install, but you'll want to mount the
partition containing the root filesystem. If you aren't sure, you can always
just start going through the list and selecting each one until it finds a valid
root fs.

Once you have properly updated your /etc/yaboot.conf file and ran ybin (-v if
you want output of the results) to apply the changes go ahead and exit rescue
mode and reboot your system hopefully to a working login screen. I know, these
steps were quite vague, but I don't have a system in front of me to provide
more details from at the moment, but hopefully it at least puts you in the
right direction.

Also, you don't necessarily have to update your initrd symlink to point to your
new initrd. Just provide the full name of the new initrd in your yaboot file.

PPC systems can be a bit of pain to get up and running, but I personally enjoy
that aspect of using them as it's good way to get an even stronger handle on
how computers work and how things work specifically on Linux.

Wheezy for my experience is the only one distro who worked without problems on
Quad G5 with nvidia boardthe only tip i can say put the linux as the first hd
slot a on G5 Quad for the remaining all was working on an 7800gtx flashed too.
on nvidia 6600 al was good.radeon was gave problems but you need to boot the
system with kernel appends... like is radeon.agpmode=-1 or radeon.modeset=1 or
video=radeonfb:on
What im facing today is with all distros and all flawors is the bug of xorg
with dual gfx boards from jessie to sid and all ubuntu flawors ... this was my
last post on ubuntu forums about
this bug effected all the PPC world i think because it is in the X5000 too. What
i discovered :if i set radeon.modeset=0 nouveau.modeset=1xorg turn on the
radeon driver and turn off the nouveau but because the radeon driver is off
by the kernel the result is the black screen.same is if i set radeon.modeset=1
nouveau.modeset=0setting the two boards as 1 i have te fbdev working on
radeon (?) but xorg dont find video boards.if i set the two as 0 nothing
woking but xorg --configure set the new xorg with the two video boards This
bug was present since 15.0 of (X) (L) (mate)ubuntu ... and now one had been
fixed it ...

ibook G3 suddenly fails to resume after suspend with Debian wheezy

2015-08-24 Thread Juergen Hench
Dear Debian-for-PPC developers and users

I am using an old 2003 G3 ibook with debian wheezy (3.2.0-4-powerpc #1
Debian 3.2.68-1+deb7u3 ppc GNU/Linux), initially installed as linux mint.
It had all been working fine until yesterday when the resume-from-suspend
stopped working. I have performed an upgrade to the current version of all
installed packages. I have been using lxde and xfce4 on the system.

There was one anomaly when waking up from suspend since Debian had been
installed. When closing the lid, the computer would go to suspend. When
re-opening, it would wake up for a few seconds, then go back to suspend
without user interaction. Pressing a keyboard key would then wake it up
again, and it would function fine.

Now, since the upgrade (did not note the versions I had been using before)
the system goes to suspend. When re-opening, it does power up the screen
backlight, and the caps lock key as well as num lock key LEDs work,
however, nothing else starts up, and there is no network connection either.
Thus, it is impossible to see what exactly fails. All the remains is to
turn off the power and to reboot.

I wonder if there has been any change to packages that could explain this
behavior. I have found several old posts about older Debian versions with
similar symptoms and have tried to exchange pbbuttonsd for pmud. It all
remains the same. No waking up from suspend anymore.

Does anyone have an ibook / powerbook G3 with the current Debian wheezy
running and suspend still works? Which packages are installed? I would be
grateful for a list. Are there any customizations needed? I do not recall
that I had to adapt any file after the installation for suspend/resume to
work. Unfortunately, now, when trying to find the problem, I have added and
removed quite some packages and the whole thing seems to boil down do the
kernel rather than the ppbuttonsd etc. level.

Has anyone else with an ibook / pb G3 experience the same problem recently?

Any idea is appreciated

Hi Roosevelt

Thank. You for your hint. My F2 key works as expected if pbbuttonsd is
installed. However, after waking up from suspend, the whole system seems
stuck. There is no reaction to anything, i.e. it is not a display problem.

From old posts I figured some previous updates (of which packages?) Have
led to ther same or simiulare failure. It would be great to get a starting
point to solve this issue.

I have changed from Jessie to Wheezy on my PowerBook G4. I want to get 3D

my config file and log file. It looks like when I created my xorg.conf file it
made a two monitor configuration but I do not have two monitors. Would that be

I solved a similar problem changing the video conector from one dvi to
the other in the video card. I't seems that there is no monitor
detection under the instalation so the system didn't know in wich dvbi
you have conected the monitor.

You are right, Aaron. I also have that 'video=TV-1:d' on the kernel
command line.

It comes from /etc/yaboot.conf (so you don't need to write it on every boot):

append= video=TV-1:d

F.ex.:

image=/boot/vmlinux
label=Linux
read-only
initrd=/boot/initrd.img
append= video=TV-1:d

Then you have to run 'ybin' (as root) (yaboot install).

In my case, I wanted to run the X client for emacs. All I needed to do was
# apt-get install emacs
I allowed apt to install the dependencies that it required but this did not
install all of X. From my Windows machine, which is running Xming, I ssh
with PuTTY and enable X11 fowarding in the PuTTY config. After login to the
powermac, I can echo the DISPLAY variable and see that it is set to
something like localhost:10.0. If I run emacs from the command line, the
GUI X client is drawn on my Xming server running on my Windows machine.

Let me know if you have specific questions, like how to configure PuTTY or,
if you don't have Windows, I can show you how to use another Linux machine
where you may have X11 running already.

Thanks,

Which output connector are you using, DVI (DVI-I-2) or ADC (DVI-I-1)?

If you can ssh into the machine, take a look at /var/log/Xorg.0.log.

Long story short.

I installed LinuxMintPPC and had the same problem.

Screen would go dark.

I found a post in the LinuxMint forums.

From yaboot I tried with the following line.

boot: Linux video=DVI-I-1:d video=DVI-I-2:1280x1024:@75 video=TV-1:d

It worked

I don't know if this same thing will work for Debian issue but
LinuxMintPPC is based on Debian Wheezy.

I am not even sure what this line does.

I never did get a chance to actually try entering a 1 to the boot:

No computer lockups at the login screen
No half screen of black and white for the login screen

So changing the video card solved my problem.

It would seem there is a problem with the hardware detection phase and the

Wheezy installer on IBM Power LPAR with disk multipathing via dual VIOS

2014-01-21 Thread Frank Fegert
Hello,

some time ago i was contacted by Philippe Hermes and Thibaud Besson -
both @IBM France - about an installation walkthrough for Debian on IBM
Power LPARs which i wrote earlier. They've noticed, that with the Wheezy
installer things would go sour, once the installation target disks were
backed by a dual VIOS configuration and thus would show up via two paths
in the installer system.

The quick'n'dirty workaround for this would of course be to only present
the target disks via one vSCSI/NPIV/FC path during the installation phase
and add multipathing support later on, once the system is up and running.

As this is a bit inconvenient, i tried mapping the target disks via both
VIOSs, install just on one disk (e.g.: sda) and leave the second path
representation of the same target disk (e.g.: sdb) alone. Unfortunately
this method failed in the installer script - sorry, forgot to write down
the exact place :-( The cause was, that after writing the partition table
on sda, the installer went on and looked at sdb where it failed to find
any valid partition table/label. The command used for this came back with
non-zero RC and this step blocked the further installation tasks.

The third installation method would be to get multipath support working
during the installer phase. Looking into it more deeply, i eventually
was able to figure out the necessary steps and their correct order[1].
Still, the whole procedure turned out to be riddled with manual inter-
vention and thus seems to be rather fragile and error prone.

Now my question is, would this be something to improve the installer on,
or is this too much of an edge case to burden a general purpose installer
image with?

What really surprised me were several issues:
 - the need to manually load the multipath module, although the installer
was booted with disk-detect/multipath/enable=true and even after
   multipath-modules-3.2.0-4-powerpc64-di: Multipath support was selected
in the Load installer components from CD step.
 - the need for manual intervention with regard to the multipath device
names. It seems to me, that several tools used in the installer out-
put shortened device pathnames (e.g.: mpathap1) which are then put
into the target configuration. Later on the running target system has
full device pathnames (e.g.: mpatha-part1), which breaks things very
   badly.
 - the Partition disks dialog keeps showing the individual sda and
sdb devices even after they have successfully been placed under
multipath control as e.g. mpatha. I'd think this is likely to be
confusing for the user. Wouldn't something similar to LVMs multipath_
component_detection = 1 make more sense, since the user already de-
   liberately chose multipathing support?

I also did a quick check with the Debian GNU/Linux testing Jessie -
Official Snapshot powerpc NETINST Binary-1 20131214-16:09. installer
image, but there multipath support seems even worse :-( Specifically i
ran into the following issues:
 - multipath dependency /lib/powerpc-linux-gnu/libgcc_s.so.1 was missing
   in the above installer image.
 - the default multipath 'path_selector service-time 0' yields:
 Dec 15 13:49:57 kernel: [ 1324.267968] device-mapper: table: 254:0:
multipath: unknown path selector type
 Dec 15 13:49:57 kernel: [ 1324.267973] device-mapper: ioctl: error adding
target to table
   After a change to 'path_selector round-robin 0' in /etc/multipath.conf
   this issue was resolved.
 - multipath-tools and multipath-tools-boot were not installed into
   /target.
 - both (yaboot|grub)-installer seem to fail due to mpath devices being
   unknown to OF:
 Dec 15 16:43:52 yaboot-installer: mkofboot: /dev/mapper/mpatha1: No such
file or directory
I'll have to check this again, since it could be just another full
vs. short device pathname configuration issue.

I'd be happy to open bug reports on the issues mentioned above, but i
first wanted to test the waters and possibly get some feedback about
this installer szenario being too much of an edge case.

Thanks best regards,

Frank Fegert

Wheezy install with dark screen after boot

2014-01-20 Thread Kristen R
List,

I just installed Wheezy on my G4 450MHz DP with stock Radeon 128 Rage 16M video
card. The install was beautiful. Wow such an improvement over past installs.

When I get to what should be my log in screen, the screen turns black and I can
not get a terminal or beeps from hitting enter too many times. I tried to boot
using a Samsung 22” monitor instead of the Apple Cinema screen and I get 1/2
screen of solid white and can see the computer has actually locked up.

Advice as to what I should do? Like, how does one drop to a shell so I might
access the xorg.config file?

Thank you

ofpath command giving different results for same device between wheezy and jessie

2014-01-14 Thread Rick Thomas

It appears that the powerpc64 (Mac G5) kernel change (or something else?)
between Wheezy and Jessie is causing the ofpath command to give different
results for the same device…

e.g. On Wheezy:
of path /dev/sda results in
 /ht@0,f200/pci@5/k2-sata-root@c/@1/@0
but on Jessie:
 /ht@0,f200/pci@5/k2-sata-root@c/@/@0

What changed? The /usr/sbin/ofpath files are identical, bit-for-bit, so it
almost has to be in the kernel, doesn't it?

Interestingly enough, there is no difference if this test is performed with a
powerpc (i.e. 32-bit, Mac G4) kernel.

Anybody got a clue?

Thanks!

Rick

PS: This is preventing me from installing Jessie on my PowerMac G5 macpro
machine. Very frustrating!

The actual reason for your sound problem is probably the file
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-local.conf that hinders the aoa drivers from
getting loaded. You can just rename it to end something else than
 .conf, and it stops working:

 $ su
 # mv /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-local.conf
 /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-local.conf-off

Now, just reboot, and it should be ok.

The file was created by the installer that made the wrong decision
about which sound driver is needed on this machine.

Having snd-powermac listed in /etc/modules is unnecessary but
harmless. The driver itself knows that it cannot work on the machine
 in question.

Hi Frank,

I currently have working sound, but the BCM wireless only works intermittently
so I am using a USB wireless dongle with a Realtek chipset at the moment. The
kernel that is currently in Debian Wheezy and Jessie (the testing release)
seems to be quite unstable, as I get a kernel panic after an hour or so of use.
If you can put up with the old version of things like Iceweasel, then I'd
suggest using the previous stable release until a more recent version of the
kernel makes its way into Wheezy or Jessie.

However, if you want to try and get sound in Wheezy working, then you need to
edit the /etc/modules file. This can only be done as the root user, so use the
following command in a terminal to login as root:

su -

You will then be prompted to enter the root password you set when you installed
Debian.

Now edit the /etc/modules file. If you are not familiar with the vi text editor,
then the nano editor should be a more novice friendly alternative. I cannot help
with nano, since I've never used it, but you would need to type the following to
edit the /etc/modules file:

nano /etc/modules

Change the contents of the file to match the following:

loop
# fix issue with fans running at full blast
i2c_powermac
# load AOA drivers
snd-aoa-codec-onyx
snd-aoa
 snd-aoa-fabric-layout
snd-aoa-soundbus
snd-aoa-i2sbus

Assuming you have a later audio chipset, you can now reboot your computer and
should have sound. If that doesn't work, then you will need the older audio
drivers. I don't know what entries in /etc/modules you would need for them
though.

Regards,

Chris

about the snd-aoa modules. With the
snd_powermac module blacklisted and the aoa ones in /etc/modules, I got
sound

(Broadcom 4318 wireless, sound and the fans). As unstable was living up to

Under Wheezy, sound and the fans now work perfectly. The Broadcom wireless
isn't
working, but I'll keep my fingers crossed that as the kernel in Sid
transitions
to testing and stable, that it will work again then.

Re: Upgrading Squeeze to Wheezy on Bubba Two hardware

2013-09-16 Thread http

Frank,

At the prompt, type:

root@dsl:/home/frank# nano /etc/apt/sources.list

The text editor nano has keyboard shortcuts listed at the bottom of the screen; the ^ character means Control key, so ^O
means control o. Arrow keys work as expected. When you're done, ^X exits, after asking you to save changes or not.

hi frank

you're just in the wrong directory for /etc... (you were at home)
first do cd / to get to root

then go to /etc/apt
then type nano sources.list and add your stuff (the cd image should already
be in your list; see the reference guide to add the correct other mirrors)

apt-get update
then
apt-get upgrade (or dist-upgrade)

wrote bellow but when i type in the terminal /etc/modules get error code
i'm notvery savey on this so please give me step by step on how you've done

The actual reason for your sound problem is probably the file
/etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-local.conf that hinders the aoa drivers from
getting loaded. You can just rename it to end something else than
.conf, and it stops working:

$ su

Risto

$ ./hello_ppe.elf
Hello world!

This tallies with my experience from before: I can write code (like
hello_spe.c above) that I know is running on the SPUs, but the problem is
just with the spufs. Michael Ellerman's previous reply about the kernel
patch looks like it should solve the problem, if only I knew how to compile
the 3.10 kernel under my mix of firmware (3.55) and OtherOS++ (using reboot
otheros/reboot package files to start linux from within the PS3 interface).

Anyway, thanks for the reply. I'm not sure if the results are any good for
you, but maybe it helps?

$ ./rabin-ida-ps3.pl combine -o output 400Mb-*.sf # reconstruct file using

$ cmp 400Mb output echo files match

That's maybe of no use, but I thought I'd test it anyway, fwiw.

I fixed it by going to /etc/modprobe.d/ and removing all the snd-aoa module

on that machine so I don't have it just now). I then removed snd-powermac
from /etc/modules and rebooted. I got a mixer etc. working then. I also
installed pulseaudio, but that may or may not be required.

I found the suggestion to do this here:

 https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PowerPCFAQ#Why_do_I_have_no_sound.3F

There are a few other suggestions there, they may also help.

The incorrect blacklist appears to have been introduced recently, which would
explain why the upgrade caused the problem.

Hi Shankar,

Thanks for the pointer to the information about the snd-aoa modules. With the
snd_powermac module blacklisted and the aoa ones in /etc/modules, I got sound
working under unstable. At that point everything was working properly again
(Broadcom 4318 wireless, sound and the fans). As unstable was living up to its

set my /etc/modules to the following:

loop
# load Broadcom BCM4318 driver

# fix issue with fans running at full blast
i2c_powermac
# load AOA drivers
snd-aoa-codec-onyx
snd-aoa
snd-aoa-fabric-layout
snd-aoa-soundbus
snd-aoa-i2sbus

Under Wheezy, sound and the fans now work perfectly. The Broadcom wireless isn't
working, but I'll keep my fingers crossed that as the kernel in Sid transitions
to testing and stable, that it will work again then.

I switched from Wheezy to testing, which didn't change anything - still no sound

resulted in a kernel upgrade that has fixed the wireless issue! So in summary,
manually loading the i2c_powermac module fixed the fans running at full blast

have been a Broadcom specific issue as Realtek wireless, albeit on USB, was
working under Wheezy and testing).

That just leaves the sound issue. Any advice on that would be most appreciated.

Cheers,

Chris

Re: Sound and BCM4318 wireless no longer working in Wheezy on late 2005 G5

2013-08-14 Thread Shankar Gopalakrishnan
I had exactly this problem with an ibook G4 (i.e. the sound - no issues
with wireless etc.)

I fixed it by going to /etc/modprobe.d/ and removing all the snd-aoa module
names from the list in alsa-blacklist (the file has some similar name; I'm not
on that machine so I don't have it just now). I then removed snd-powermac from
/etc/modules and rebooted. I got a mixer etc. working then. I also installed
pulseaudio, but that may or may not be required.

It's great to know that this is still working. However, I still have one
big problem with my PS3: the spufs still doesn't work. I can load programs
on the SPUs but nothing shows up under /spu and spu-top doesn't show any
processes (though it does seem to show an increasing load across SPUs).
I also have a second major problem that none of the official kernels (or
the kernel + your patches, Geoff) will compile and run for me.
If a re-installation from the main Debian archive works and fixes these
things, that would be great news.
(I'm on firmware 3.55, by the way, after an accidental upgrade by my
nephew)
Thanks for all the good work, guys...

Sound and BCM4318 wireless no longer working in Wheezy on late 2005 G5

2013-08-04 Thread Chris Wareham

Hi folks,

I've been tracking Debian Wheezy on my late 2005 dual G5 Powermac the
middle of last year. Everything has worked fine (Bluetooth / BCM4318
wireless combo card, sound, etc) until around the time of the 7.1
release. The first thing that went wrong was the fans switching to full
power, which has already been noted on this list. Then sound stopped
working, and only a dummy audio device is present. Finally, the
wireless also stopped working, although the bluetooth part of the combo
card still works. I can't find any issues related to these problems
listed, so I thought I'd mention them here first.

Regards,

Chris

Upgrading Squeeze to Wheezy on Bubba Two hardware

2013-05-24 Thread Csanyi Pal
Hi,

I have the Bubba Two hardware [1], and I'm running on it the Debian
Squeeze operating system so far.
I have installed Squeeze by following these steps described here:
http://forum.excito.net/viewtopic.php?f=11t=2518

Now since Wheezy is out as stable release, I want to upgrade my Squeeze
system to Wheezy.

Is it possible to do this by following advices from here:
http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/i386/release-notes/ch-upgrading.en.html

From where can I install the kernel for the Wheezy system for this
hardware?

Is there some dependencies regarding kernel and wheezy GNU system?
In other words, must I have on this hardware ( Bubba Two is a headless
server box ) a particular linux image that can work together with the
rest of the GNU system ( Wheezy )?

My apt sources.list is:
deb http://ftp.debian.org/debian squeeze main
deb http://security.debian.org/ squeeze/updates main
deb http://update.excito.org/ marielle main

[1] http://excito.com/
Bubba Two is an older hardware as Bubba 3.
It is a PowerPC.
