unblock request for sisu 2.7.8-1 (code fixes (debian live-manual related) for Squeeze (as documented))
Severity: normal Please unblock sisu 2.7.8 for Squeeze. This sisu release is made almost entirely with debian live-manual needs in mind, most of them responses to requests as documented in the debian/changelog. It includes a fix without which there is a pattern matching error in building the current version of live-manual. This is listed under "internal links" in the changelog. This release though only built and posted yesterday has been tested in its present form for the past 6 days from the git repo. Note from previous unblock request: >I am upstream for sisu the development of which has likewise been frozen since >the Debian freeze to ensure a stable sisu version release with Squeeze. (There >have been several unblock requests, all thankfully granted). This freeze period >has been a useful for sisu development, a chance to review the existing code >and feature set and its behaviour, with each freeze set of fixes release being >more reliable and consistent than the previous one. So, why should we accept this in Squeeze? JFTR: bti would already (build-)depend on it if it had been around longer :) (In fact I have a package ready with the new upstream release of bti which uses liboauth). > > libOAuth was accepted very recently into Debian Unstable, and that > > is why it isn't in squeeze yet. > Then, we won't be able to accept it in Squeeze I'm afraid. Right, that's totally understandable. I guess this is one of the cornercases where we have to sacrifice an improvement in a small corner in order to improve the larger good (i.e. get out the release without unnecessary delays and risk for the quality). (And we can then upload a newer bti + liboauth + other clients into backports.) Trying to contact you in private seems to fail so I was forced to use this way. Could you give us a quick overview what the current state of packaging sendmail and libmilter is? Do you need any help? Is there a chance to get this new version still into Squeeze (release team?) or should we rather focus on backporting the necessary changes to 8.14.3? As the libmilter problem renders a class of applications unreliable this should IMHO really be classified as RC bug. > > Here's the upstream changelog which shows several important fixes - with the > most important (IMNSHO) being: > * The Security (top) entry > * Host lookup crash > * Several milter issues > > 8.14.4/8.14.4 2009/12/30 > SECURITY: Handle bogus certificates containing NUL characters > in CNs by placing a string indicating a bad certificate > in the {cn_subject} or {cn_issuer} macro. Package: release.debian.org Severity: normal User: release.debian@packages.debian.org Usertags: freeze-exception Please unblock package arduino Arduino won't start if users have sun-java installed. This is a bug in the sun- java jre. See Debian bug 382686. Since we cannot edit those binaries, I uploaded a two line work around that sets LD_LIBRARY_PATH in the arduino wrapper to look in /usr/lib/java. I've received multiple contacts through email and ubuntu's launchpad on this bug, and have fixed it in experimental. However, I believe this to be an RC bug (serious) and stable users should have this fix. Bug#602025: unblock: backupninja/0.9.8.1-1
Package: release.debian.org Severity: normal User: release.debian@packages.debian.org Usertags: freeze-exception Hello release team! I would like to request a freeze exception for the backupninja 0.9.8.1-1 package. This version of backupninja was prepared to contain, what we think, were only the changes that would make this package work well with Squeeze and deserve a freeze exception. All the issues were related to fixing documentation/man page issues, fixing critical locking bugs that prevented multiple runs, problematic and unnecessary locking of tables, or errors when no job has been configured. Additionally, this version does the necessary changes to support the versions of the various utilities that will be shipped in squeeze (such as rdiff-backup, duplicity, mdadm and the lvm utilities). Let me know if you have any questions, and thank you very much for your hard work on Squeeze, it is very appreciated! unblock backupninja/0.9.8.1-1 Micah -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.32-5-686 (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-release-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Bug#601512: Removal request for phpwiki filed
Hi, The security team requested the removal of PHPwiki from testing in #601512, and although I wasn't consulted (or notified) of the request I do not disagree with it and it is in-line with the course of action for this package that I outlined in the RFA bug #600371 several weeks ago. Consequently I've gone ahead and filed #602013 to request that the ftp-masters remove phpwiki from Debian completely. This mail serves as notification of that action to interested parties and also to close the RFA bug as it is now obsolete. That is correct. All those 3 patches are security fixes, although marked as minor by Moodle. I think this is the reason for not putting them on http://moodle.org/security. > (On a side note, embedded libraries suck, particularly when the updates > to them contain loads of whitespace changes and code rearrangement). I know - I have even created a minimal patch but in the end I've dropped it. I think it's safer to create a patch to get in the exactly the same code as upstream library. See bug # 540333 The package description is: apt-cross is intended to make it easier to locate, download, install and update your cross-compiling libraries, directly from the Debian archives. . By default, apt-cross uses /etc/apt/sources.list to find the current Debian package file for the architecture specified (or dpkg-cross default) and in the suite specified (default is unstable). Package: release.debian.org Severity: normal User: release.debian@packages.debian.org Usertags: unblock Please unblock package liboauth This package is blocking major bugs in twitter clients, an example of such a bug is bug #588235 . Twitter recently dropped support for Basic Auth and now all twitter clients are forced to use OAuth to authenticate to Twitter. libOAuth is the ONLY OAuth 1.0 library written in C, and hence all Twitter clients written in C need this. Without this package, BTI and other twitter clients will not function in squeeze, as they would not be able to authenticate with Twitter. libOAuth was accepted very recently into Debian Unstable, and that is why it isn't in squeeze yet. unblock liboauth/0.9.1-1 -- System Information: Debian Release: squeeze/sid APT prefers maverick-updates APT policy: (500, 'maverick-updates'), (500, 'maverick-security'), (500, 'maverick') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.35-22-generic (SMP w/2 CPU cores) Locale: LANG=en_US.utf8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.utf8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to debian-release-requ...@lists.debian.org with a subject of "unsubscribe". Yes. Both libfile-homedir-perl and libdebian-dpkgcross-perl were also used for emprunecross and gccross but both were removed from the package at version 2.2.3. Dependencies on apt-cross tended to flow into dependencies on File::HomeDir, Debian::DpkgCross as well as the libcache-apt-perl modules of Cache::Apt::*. -- Neil Williams = http://www.linux.codehelp.co.uk/ pgpRPcYRQQIJo.pgp Description: PGP signature
Bug#601970: Permission to upload tk8.4
Package: release.debian.org Severity: normal Hi release team! I'd like to upload tk8.4 with the following three changes: 1) Reduce indirect dependencies by replacing xvt for xterm in recommends. Since recommends are now installed by default, it's better to make them as small as possible. See bug http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=601591 for details. 2) Added ${misc:Depends} to debian/control (trivial change which in fact adds nothing to the dependencies, but it's better to have this added because tk8.4 uses debhelper). 3) Standards version bump to 3.9.1 (another trivial change which didn't require any fixes in the package). Could you allow me to make this upload? Anyway, long story short, I fixed a FTBFS on ia64 that prevented acpidump_20100513 to migrate to squeeze since April and the version currently in the next release is quite out of date. It would be nice to have a 20100513 go in the next stable release. Bug#601939: Request for freeze exception for libclamunrar 0.96.4-1
Package: release.debian.org Hi release team, As a freeze exception was requested for clamav (#601900), I'd also ask for such an exception for non-free libclamunrar 0.96.4-1 to have matching versions in squeeze. Now clearly a freeze exception for libclamunrar depends on one being granted for clamav. Of course, the freeze exception is just one way to go. Should you prefer not to grant libclamunrar a freeze exception, we would need to remove the current binary packages from squeeze as these are seriously outdated. Thanks a lot, Michael libclamunrar (0.96.4-1) unstable; urgency=low * New upstream version * Bumped standards version to 3.9.1 (no changes). -- Michael Tautschnig Tue, 26 Oct 2010 00:16:24 +0200 pgpSX1KKSAnoO.pgp Description: PGP signature
