I'm just looking for a source upload of the agreed changes with a version
string of something conventional like 1:10.11.4-1~deb12u1, targetting
bookworm.

Thanks,

I still don't understand - do you mean the 'version' as in contents of
the package, or 'version' as in version string 1:10.11.4-1~deb12u1
should be something else?

Please advice and I will reupload this weekend.

That is the correct interpretation, but you missed the second half:

You've uploaded 1:10.11.4-0+deb12u2 now, and again it's a binary upload.
Forget the usual version constraint rules, please upload a source package
with the correct version.

I interpreted this to mean that I should not care about one version
already being in the NEW queue, but go ahead and upload a new version
with the requested fixes now merged in
https://salsa.debian.org/mariadb-team/mariadb-server/-/merge_requests/52,
so I did that now. I also made sure this upload now also has debug
builds (which were missing from the previous upload).

The version in unstable has intentionally no changes to ensure maximum
time of testing of the version that now is going into stable updates.

I have not done any extra Lintian fixes as doing extra Lintian fixes
and quality improvements lead to the Bookworm uploaded being blocked
for months in the first place.

This is the full list of issues currently detected by Lintian:
https://mariadb-team.pages.debian.net/-/mariadb-server/-/jobs/4410572/artifacts/debian/output/lintian.html
https://udd.debian.org/lintian/?packages=mariadb (link not timestamped)

I am now looking into these and will fix them on the
https://salsa.debian.org/mariadb-team/mariadb-server/-/commits/debian/bookworm
branch directly:
* debhelper-but-no-misc-depends mariadb-server-10.5
* transitional-package-not-oldlibs-optional database/optional

There are two lintian warnings:

W: debhelper-but-no-misc-depends mariadb-server-10.5
W: transitional-package-not-oldlibs-optional database/optional

We also have a lack of dbgsym packages, probably because of the maintainer
upload of amd64 and all. I'd quite like to fix the second lintian warning
at least; if you uploaded again now with the more conventional version of
1:10.11.4-1~deb12u1 do you have to go through NEW again or could you make
it a source-only upload?

https://salsa.debian.org/mariadb-team/mariadb-server/-/commits/debian/1%2510.11.4-0+deb12u1
and uploaded binary packages as this will need to go via NEW queue.

However, it was rejected in NEW queue with error message:

mariadb_10.11.4-0+deb12u1.dsc: lack of required files for format 3.x (quilt)

I am currently trying to figure out what is supposedly missing, but
did not figure it out at least during the first 15 minutes of

This doesn't seem to mention the new upstream release at all?

Thanks,

2023-07-14 Thread Otto Kekäläinen
I propose that the latest version of MariaDB 10.11.4 be included in
the upcoming stable release update of Debian. Package ready at
https://salsa.debian.org/mariadb-team/mariadb-server/-/commits/debian/bookworm

Current changelog:

mariadb (1:10.11.4-0+deb12u1) bookworm; urgency=medium

  [ Andreas Beckmann ]
  * Introduce transitional mariadb-server-10.5 (Closes: #1035949)

  [ Otto Kekäläinen ]
  * Duplicate selected Lintian overrides in old Lintian syntax for NEW queue
(this might strictly not be needed for bookworm but does not hurt either)

 -- Otto Kekäläinen Thu, 13 Jul 2023 21:17:18 -0700

Debdiff attached. Created with commands:
git diff --stat debian/1%10.11.3-1..debian/bookworm | xz >
debian-1%10.11.4-0+deb12u1.debdiff.stat.xz
git diff debian/1%10.11.3-1..debian/bookworm | xz >
debian-1%10.11.4-0+deb12u1.debdiff.xz

Commit history for easy review visible at
https://salsa.debian.org/mariadb-team/mariadb-server/-/commits/debian/bookworm

Quality control:
- Bookworm specific CI (mostly) passed at
https://salsa.debian.org/mariadb-team/mariadb-server/-/pipelines
The failures are due to me not having enough time to adapt the
salsa-ci.yml properly for Bookworm yet. No regressions of the changes
came up.

- Builds and test suite passed on all archs available on Launchpad at
https://launchpad.net/~mysql-ubuntu/+archive/ubuntu/mariadb-10.11/+builds?build_text=_state=all

The end result is identical to what Debian unstable currently has.
This version has been unchanged in unstable since June 18th and no
regressions have been reported about it.

Thanks for confirmation/guidance.

This is now on my TODO to be done immediately when I return from a
vacation trip in about a week.

That MR looks sane; please prepare a backport of 1:10.11.4-1 and send a
confirmation source debdiff, and it can most likely be waved through.

Thanks,

I want to add my +1 as a user of mariadb, the current mariadb
version in bookworm has a serios regression which turned out to be
https://jira.mariadb.org/browse/MDEV-31403 and is fixed by
1:10.11.4-1 (as present in current Debian/unstable), so a fixed
package of mariadb would be highly appreciated.

Thanks, Otto and release team :)

Hi!

Note that upstream released 10.11.4 today. Import preparation in
progress at
https://salsa.debian.org/mariadb-team/mariadb-server/-/merge_requests/50.
I plan to upload this to experimental tomorrow and eventually into
bookworm-pu if the release team approves.
