The virtual domains bugs.debian.org and lists.debian.org are broken. Hopefully they will be up later today. Bruce -- TO UNSUBSCRIBE FROM THIS MAILING LIST: e-mail the word unsubscribe to [EMAIL PROTECTED] . Trouble? e-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
GnuStep Re: X is painful
Jim asked about GnuStep; Well-- a complete set of GnuStep packages have been built by Karl Sackett and are awaiting my work on gcc [an attempt to fix a crasher in the optimizer that causes the base GnuStep library to NOT be built with optimization-- UGH!] before release. Now that I have an answer on the libc front (ie; 1.2 will ship with 5.4.7), I'm going to reboot to Linux and produce 'official' 5.4.7 compliant GCC 2.7.2.1 + GnuStep Threading Patches in short order. BTW: For now, I'm using the built in MIT_POSIX_THREADS. Who is maintaining LinuxThreads-- it seems like a superior package and I would like to move to it as soon as possible... BUT: If I move to using LinuxThreads, gcc will DEPEND on the LinuxThreads package. Does that offend anyone? b.bum -- TO UNSUBSCRIBE FROM THIS MAILING LIST: e-mail the word unsubscribe to [EMAIL PROTECTED] . Trouble? e-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Re: XFree86 3.2 Initial Reports
Actually-- I think /etc/X11/Xresources or /etc/X11/xdm/Xresources contains the xrdb compatible database of resources used at login. One can change the contents of that file to completely customize the look-and-feel of the login panel without having to modify any of the startup stuff... When I get a chance, I'll create a better configuration post if for net.community.review. b.bum Begin forwarded message: From agent Thu Nov 14 02: 10:08 1996 Date: Thu, 14 Nov 1996 10:17:35 +0200 (IST) From: Marc A. Re: Is `.deb' still better than `.rpm'?
Another nickel's worth on dselect... When getting packages via ftp, some sort of progress indicator would be nice, especially for those with slow, not-too-reliable links. | This is OFFICIAL *WRITTEN* notification that I want to be *REMOVED* | | from *ALL* of your mailing lists. *EVERY* message sent from this | | account has had this request posted. Or replace the depends by suggest or recommends (if dselect can be less preocupped (? - sorry, I don't know if it's the good word in English :-/ ) by this priority). I think the second idea are good too... But the fact it's making a 'virtual package' is an easy thing (just need a DEBIAN repertory with a simple control file and running dpkg-deb --build on it :). Maybe dselect can have an option such 'make a virtual package from my currently installation' and let you edit, add and change the configuration. This can be done on another program but I think that the interface of dselect are just well suite for this purpose. cdu31a
Package: disks-i386 Version: 1996-07-14 A friend is trying to convert to Debian from Slakware. He's using buzz-fixed off an Info Magic cdrom, and can't get the installation boot disk to recognize his cdu31a. At the lilo prompt, he's type linux cdu31a=0x230,0 This lilo parameter worked fine under slakware. Any suggestions? Re: DSelect Suggestions...
Hi, Maybe dselect can have an option such 'make a virtual package from my currently installation' and let you edit, add and change the configuration. This is called: dpkg --get-selections [pattern ...] get list of selections to stdout dpkg --set-selections set package selections from stdin And would need a simple read/write selection list file menue with selection single list-files. This is how it is done in a lot of commercial applications. You can supply a few pre defined files like: minimal installation, www-server installation and so on. Users are able to add new lists with customized selections of packages. Perhaps an unselect feature is needed?
