To: To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe.
Vincent

For hotplug I created a usbcam.usermap and a usbcam script, but the script does not get executed. After that I tried HAL, but it seems like there is no policy file for gphoto. I don't know how to proceed in this problem, may be someone else has an idea? Who should be responsible for setting rights in general, hotplug or HAL? Why isn't there a policy file for gphoto, when there is an information file? Add yourself to the camera and plugdev groups. There is no group camera in my system. I added myself to the group plugdev, however, but it did not help. Then you need to create it. BTW, what branch are you running? I did, but it didn't help. I still couldn't find any file that refers to the camera group. I am running Debian lenny (testing), last upgraded on 6th of April 2008. My main question is where are the permissions set? They are not hardcoded or set magically I guess, there must be a script that is responsible for doing so. By udev. Okay, there is a file /etc/udev/libgphoto2.rules, it only mentions the plugdev group. But even though my user is in that group (and also camera), it still does not work. Here's a thought: did you log all the way out after adding yourself to that group? Does it or /var/log/syslog indicate anything else? I am having similar problems with a Nikon Coolpix L11 that I just bought. I had not even tried, however, to run gtkam as root until I read Anton's post. I checked the gphoto site and it said that the camera was supported, so I went and bought it. I can access it as a Mass Storage device, but if I set it to PTP and try to use gtkam, it does not work. I have since determined that support for the L11 was only recently added, so is not in the version in Etch. The camera should be recognized as a generic PTP camera, however. If I run gtkam as a normal user and tell it to detect the camera then it says it found a PTP camera, but it will not initialize the camera. If I start gtkam as root then it detects the camera just the same, but it DOES initialize the camera and I can view, save and delete images. I, also, would like to be able to run gtkam as a normal user and not as root. I have added myself to the plugdev group (camera does not exist here, either, as on Anton's box) and I have completely logged out and back in, but the results are the same. A bit of white-space (well, actually black-space) does help. you can use mono inplace of color and select underline, bold, etc... man muttrc (just learned that myself). Yeah, I still haven't finished tweaking my .bashrc (or is it .bash_profile) to get things tweaked based on TERM, since the VT is connected to a P-II from whense I ssh into the AMD to run mutt. coughRubecough-coughGoldbergcough-cough-cough What, the Athlon doesn't have a spare serial port or a paralell port. I need a backup box anyway, so it acts as a print server when I need to print, and a terminal server when I need to access stuff from upstairs. Saves me buying a USB/paralell and a USB/serial adapter. The Athlon's one serial port is used to connect to my 3Com (USR) Courier V.Everything external modem. The P-II is also located in the basement (since it makes a lot of noise) while the VT520 is upstairs. Unix terminal handling grew up where an individual user would have one type of terminal, it doesn't have inherent abilities to adjust features (e.g. colours) based on TERM. The only exceptions seem to be Lynx, Vim, and partially mc (e.g. learn-keys gets save with TERM type). Doug. -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? I understand the issue about not wanting to limit posters to the list of subscribers. However, perhaps there should be a whitelist or somthing to which non-subscribers can post with the same handshaking as the subscription protocol? There is: http://lists.debian.org/whitelist/ Do legitmate people actually post if they don't have an email address? I can easily imagine a scenario, where I am somewhere on a half-configured box or in an internet cafe etc. where I don't have access to my regular mail, but where I would like to ask a question and read the answer on the web pages. There is: http://lists.debian.org/whitelist/ Sorry, I misunderstood you, Doug. IIUC, you propose that there is a special way for non-subscribers to post, that locks out spammers at the same time? How should that work? The only thing I could imagine, is one of those silly 'type the letters that you find in this image' stuff. That simply drives spammers to OCR or other tricks and locks out others (blind, color blind etc.), and adds an additional layer of annoyance to the rest of us. [I get angry against spammers, but I would rather rely on my spam filter and ignore the odd spam that gets through than to make it more difficult for people to post. ] Just MHO.
