Eclipse Ganymede sur sid amd64 - +ieurs Pb

2009-11-15 Thread Yann Cohen
Bonjour,

environnement :
debian sid
éclipse ganyméde installé des pacquet débian,
machine java sun 6

Pareil ici.

Quand on

 Checking root file system...fsck from util-linux-ng 2.16.1

 /dev/sda1:
inodes that were part of a corrupted orphan linked list found.

/dev/sda1: UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY; RUN fsck MANUALLY.

ejecuta fsk manualmente

(i.e., without -a or -p options)

fsck died with exit status 4
 failed (code 4).
An automatic file system check (fsck) of the root filesystem failed. A

shell will now be started. After performing system maintenance, press
CONTROL-D to terminate the maintenance shell and restart the system.

BTW: why would you want a daily reboot?

For instance: if this is due to a memory leak in asterisk 1.4.13, why
not upgrade to 1.4.26.2 ?

hadi motamedi wrote:
 Dear All
Can you please do me favor and let me know how can I enable telnet

Just install the packages with the servers. In the latest version they
are openssh-server and telnetd (or another package providing
telnet-server). This may be different in previous versions, but you can
find out packages with 'apt-cache search telnet' or a similar command.

Note, however, that telnet is quite unsecure as it transmits passwords

Dne, 15. 11. 2009 06:47:14 je T o n g napisal(a):

I can only say that I have acpi-support installed on my laptop, as
opposed to acpitool. I suppose it got installed automatically by the
laptop task, but can't positively confirm that. IMHO certain ACPI
packages would be more suited for certain hardware than others, and
vice versa?
I'd also say it's up to your individual usage. I personally find Gnome
sensors-applet extremely useful, whereas, say, cpufrequtils, though
being useful, may be easily replaced by just echoing the right values
to the right locations in the /proc or /sys subtrees (or reading values
therefrom).

Re: Problem with gettext files and Mutt.

2009-11-15 Thread Omar Campagne
I think you are overdoing it. I don't have a .mime.types file, nor any
encoding settings in my .muttrc, I'm just using a terminal with proper
 UTF-8 support (rxvt-unicode).

How are you testing the encodings of the files you send/receive?

Thanks for the response. I'm using gnome-terminal. I started trying to
do this thing because I was getting a lot of messages in plain us-ascii,
and, I was getting mail in Spanish in iso..-1 badly rendered, therefore
the charset-hoo for iso...-15, in order to see the accents.

Now, Po files I send are always in utf-8, same as I receive. However,
I was getting garbled iso...1 instead of the right thing when it came to
receive it before. Then, mutt would also save the attachment with a
garbled enconding.

Now, with the fixes, when I send it, I get utf8 quoted, or plain/text
with the right encoding but wrong mime, yet viewable (what po's are,
just text). My problem is that the po is sometimes not viewable as
app/gettext, quoted, attachement. This is available in
/usr/share/doc/mutt.

l10n support If you want to see non-ASCII characters on a
Debian system, there's no use fiddling with the variable charset, as
described in the manual page muttrc(5). Instead, you'll need to have
the Debian package locales installed on your system and set the LANG
or LC_CTYPE environment variable. e.g. US users will want to add
export LC_CTYPE=en_US to their ~/.bashrc.

That's way I tried everything. You say you just use that terminal and it
works?

Regards, Omar

And maybe I misunderstand, but it's my understanding that I can use LDAP

 1) Set up a ou=hosts,dc=nimbios,dc=org entry in the database
 2) In /etc/ldap/ldap.conf, I set: nss_base_hosts ou=hosts,dc=nimbios,dc=org
 2) In /etc/nsswitch.conf I set: hosts: files ldap dns

But when I do so the networking freezes on the client until I remove the
ldap from the hosts entry in /etc/nsswitch.conf.

Do I misunderstand how this is supposed to work? I would have thought
that if the hosts lookup in LDAP failed then it would fall through to
 DNS.

 Thanks for your help,

Hi Michael,

In nsswitch.conf manual, it is written that the default action on unavail
and tryagain is to continue. So, in your case, it should lokking for hosts
in DNS...
May be you could try :
  hosts: files ldap [!SUCCESS=continue] dns

It should be the default behaviour of the system but in doubt...

Good week-end.

You need to run telnet daemon (telnetd).

In lenny (Debian 5.0), inetutils-telnetd, krb5-telnetd, telnetd, and
telnetd-ssl seems to provide such.

I have no idea what package offer telnetd in Debian GNU/Linux 3.1
(a.k.a. sarge, two before current stable release). I bet for simple
telnetd.

Unless you have special reason, you should use current stable release.
Once you get to understans basics, you can play with old ones as hobby.
They are still available at http://archive.debian.org/debian/dists/

I think learning some basics should help you.

Most of Inquiry are answered or hinted in there.

Try this as the user / as root

crontab -e

You should see a line

# m h dom mon dow command

which is put in by the Debian default crontab entry to remind you of the
syntax :)

To test - adding the line

5 * * * * echo Hi

should echo Hi and mail the user.

Crontab entries made in this way survive reboots.

As others have said, 3.1 is now out of support. If others are reliant on
the server, work out when and how you can take it out of service to
upgrade (carefully) to 4.0 - now Debian oldstable - and then,
potentially, to 5.0.

There was no firewall set by default in 3.1 although there was an
iptables save command which would save the current state of whatever
had been set as iptables rules and an iptables restore.

iptables -L as root will show whatever iptables rules have been set.
As somebody else said, iptables -F will flush all rules.

Martin Krafft's book - The Debian System - from No Starch Press deals
well with 3.1 and what was expected in 4.0. A new edition is being
prepared to deal with 5.0. What's in that edition is not completely out
of date because it covers a wealth of background information on Debian
which is still relevant.

ISBN 1-59237-069-0 - also includes a CD of Debian 3.1

Hope this helps,

All the best,

How to create a SSI cluster using Debian?

2009-11-15 Thread surreal
Has anyone tried to create a cluster using Kerrighed patched Debian kernel
?? I need a kerrighed patched kernel image (along with source, and deb
package)

I would like to get some help on that. Seems that Debian has got very less
support for HPC (except from some wiki pages and packages list)

I read some pages on web but they are ubuntu centric with no reference to
Debian.

I wonder .. Is Ubuntu in real a 'debian unstable' distro or is it a
completely another distro making its own changes to packages and using
debian name as marketing gimmick?

Is there something common between debian (stable) and ubuntu (whatever the
latest version might be) besides having the same package manager (synaptic)
??

I hope this dosent create flame wars. Its a question that needs official
(but short) answer in an official way.

You need a telnet deamon on your linux machine. Try

apt-get install telnetd

Hope the package is the same with sarge. On Lenny, apt-get search has:

telnet - the telnet client (you need that to connect to other machine)
telnetd - the telnet server (you need this to give other machines access to
your server)

Hi,

The solution to my problem turned out to be an easy one. I upgraded to

Besides acpi-support now a days depend upon pm-utils, which in turn
depends on hal. So I just got rid of acpi-support. One can't just
get rid of pm-utils that easily since is a dependency for several
other stuff, although I whish I could. To suspend to ram I just use
acpitool -s, and to disk acpitool -S

However I don't use desktop environment. For frequency scaling and
the like, I use cpufreqd and cpufrequtils. For sensors I use
lm_sensors, and for HD controlling I use laptop-mode-tools...

So it alldepends. If you find the buttons support provided by
acpi-support handy (I never did), then you should use it. Otherwise
you might get rid of it. Things like suspending can be handled by
pm-utils (if you like it), or acpitool, and pm-utils is now a
dependency for acpi-support, so you don't need the last.

And if you use desktop environment, most probably some of these tools
I mentioned will be dependencies any ways, plus who knows what other
ones, :-)

Please notice they both can coexist with no problem though...

changed /etc/hosts /etc/resolv.conf and /etc/network/interfaces. Futher i
looked at al configuration programs for .local.

I checked this 3 times.
With the dns server off -- i had no messages from avahi.
but with the dns server on -- i got the messages and the disabling of avahi

I did a test (found it on avahi.org):

host -t SOA local.

and did get the next answer:
local has SOA record localhost. root.localhost 2604800 86400 2419200
604800.
I did recognize this as the db.local file from bind9
which is used to define localhost

I did a rename from db.local to db.localhost and changed
in named.conf zone local to zone localhost and db.local in db.localhost

I did again:

host -t SOA local.

and did get the next respons:
host local. not found (3NXDOMAIN)
-- so avahi will NOT disable itsself... (hallelujah!!!)

I waited by the computer after a restart. And saw avahi come on, but didnot
get any messages off disabeling avahi.

I looked at the logs nothing. So this is a solution.

Why is this is this a bug
Is there a way to get bind9 and avahi work together, using the default
installation names/files. This are default packages!!!
Why do i have to change db.local in db.localhost

There is something NOT compatable with the names of the files in the
pacakages !!!

But it works now

I'm using debian 5.00 with the latest versionss
of avahi 0.6.23
of bind 1:9.5.1.dfsg.P3-1

Comment:

That script which checks for the .local SOA is a downstream addition of
Debian's, which I however think makes a lot of sense. Nonetheless please
bring this up downstream, i.e. in the Debian BTS, since it is a downstream
bug.

If you ask me shipping a db.local in bind9 is really a bda idea.

I did use a .local network
I did 3 client re-installs of the debian system
on 2 other systems i changed /etc/hosts /etc/resolv.conf
/etc/network/interfaces
At the last 2 systems i looked at al the conf files from later installed
packages, if there was a reference to my old domainname.
(I looked in sendmail, bind, apache, ftp, hylafax and dhcp3 and found
several and corrected them)
I did not look once but even tree times

Some times at startup i did get an error from the avahi-daemon.
Sometimes the avahi warning icon.

I looked at your website and found
a script with a test.
I did the test:

host -t SOA local.

Any luck with Blackberry?

2009-11-15 Thread Andrew Perrin
Since I got my Blackberry Bold a year or so ago, I've been syncing it with
Outlook (blech!) inside a VMWare virtual machine because I had no luck
syncing it with evolution, iceowl, etc. When I used opensync with barry,
it would work sort of, but then frequently just hang during the sync,
which left the information unstable. Every few months I try again, with
similar results.

So, I need to know - has anyone on the list actually got a blackberry
syncing contacts and calendar with a 100% linux solution? If so, I would
love to get particulars from you.

Thanks-
Andy

many errors on hp installation

2009-11-15 Thread roberto
hello,

i try to install the HP LaserJet 2600n printer and using hp-setup i
receive the following messages:
error: No devices found. Please make sure your printer is properly
connected and powered-on.
\error: PPD not file found. An appropriate PPD file could not be
found. Please check your HPLIP install, use iSelect Other.../i, or
download one from linuxprinting.org.
error: Printer queue setup failed. Please restart CUPS and try again.
error: Unsupported model: HP_Color_LaserJet_2600n
error: Printer Error. Printer is busy, offline, or in an error state.
Please check the device and try again.

i let the setup utility to find manually the printer and it actually
did, then i manually provided the ppd file and finally i get that
error message:
error: Printer queue setup failed. Please restart CUPS and try again.

also, i do not understand why it outputs:
error: Unsupported model: HP_Color_LaserJet_2600n

while the ppd file i provided is correct
i also read the bug report but it appears my problem is slightly different

any comments very welcome
thank you !

Re: Inquiry:How to set the Debian server to be automatically rebooted at pre-specified times ?

2009-11-15 Thread Javier Barroso

Martin Krafft's book - The Debian System - from No Starch Press deals
well with 3.1 and what was expected in 4.0. A new edition is being
prepared to deal with 5.0. What's in that edition is not completely out
of date because it covers a wealth of background information on Debian
 which is still relevant.
One fix to your comment, it will be about Debian 6.0 (Squeeze) :)

And it is a very good new !

Debian on PPC

2009-11-15 Thread Rob Owens
I'm very unfamiliar w/ the PPC architecture, but a friend has a laptop
he'd like me to install a Linux distro onto. Debian offers a powerpc
version on the downloads page. Can I expect this to contain all the
same packages as the i386 version?

Are there any other distros I should investigate for Linux on PPC? My
friend has never used Linux, and would like to use the laptop mainly for
internet and email.

Thanks

Barring a few packages, which may be i386 only or which may not work
with PowerPC systems, you can expect the same list of packages as on
x86 for PowerPC.

Extra info: There is a system for architecture qualification, based
on which release managers decide whether an architecture will be
supported for a release or not. See
http://release.debian.org/squeeze/arch_qualify.html for details.

I swear by Debian. But I believe Fedora has support for
PowerPC. Ubuntu has dropped official support, but you might still be
able to use it. You can find a list here, with more details.

Want new kernel 2.6.28 supporting ext4

2009-11-15 Thread Edmond Halley
Hi, all

I installed debian lenny 5.0.3. The kernel is 2.6.26, I want a newer kernel
image 2.6.28. Can I just apt-get install a new kernel? I can't find new
kernel in the repository by apt-cache search kernel-image or search in
aptitude.

If there is not pre-compile kernel image in the repository, does it mean I
myself have to compile it from source?

Thanks, all!

Best Regards!

Sadly, the kernel present in Debian Lenny is 2.6.26+17+lenny1 (i386
and amd64). Read below for further options.

You could compile your own kernel using kernel-package[1]. However,
you could also leverage on the Lenny backports; the current backported
kernel is 2.6.30+20~bpo50+1 [2]. You can learn more about backports
here:

I've used the PPC version of Debian on an old Mac G4 desktop. Can't vouch
for the wireless-related items, but putting that G4 side by side with an old
HP i386 desktop, everything in Debian looked the same to me so I would
assume you can expect similar results. I installed from the dvd iso
downloaded via jigdo if that matters.

OpenSUSE supports PPC also, and is actually the first distro I tried on that
G4 before smartening up and going with Debian. :)

there are some logs about the failure or some tools to do record the
