supertux (mario-like), supertuxkart (mario kart-like), pingus

un autre mario-like :
smc

micropolis (simcity, j'adorais à son age), warmux (Worms-like), numpty

Using commands like cp and mv, use of the trailing slash in the
destination acts as a bit of a safety net, since it forces the final
path component to be interpreted as a directory. Compare mv myfile
/some/path to mv myfile /some/path/ -- if /some/path does not exist,
the first version will create a file, while the second version will
fail with an error. If /some/path exists but is a file, the first
version will replace it, while the second version will again fail with
an error. – larsks Jun 12 at 19:02

no, no iría nada... ¿no?

Ok, según he visto:
Para ser justos con la tarjeta, comentaré que tiene salida HDMI (ya no
hace falta conectar el cable SPDIF a ella, los datos de audio pasan a
través del bus PCIe)

Fuente:
http://www.hardzone.es/2009/12/09/nueva-tarjeta-grafica-nvidia-geforce-315/

Por lo que no es necesario el cable, debe ser como decía mario que
tienes la intel activada y no pasa a la nvidia (sonido).

De ese sitio pruebo primero lo de...

root@tornado-01:/home/sonic# aplay -l
 List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC888 Analog [ALC888 Analog]

Y sucesivamente

aplay -D plughw:1,3 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Noise.wav

con (en vez de 1,3)...

0,0
0,1
1,3
1,7
1,8
1,9

Y en ninguno suena nada... :(

Option Audio true
Option HDMI all

(...)

Pues mira, no hay sonido. Sin embargo, ahora al probar...

aplay -D plughw:1,7 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Noise.wav

2- nano /etc/asound.conf

3- Escribir lo siguiente:

pcm.pulse {
type pulse
}
ctl.pulse {
type pulse
}

pcm.!default {
 type hw
 card 1
 device 7
}
ctl.!default {
 type hw
 card 1
 device 7
}

Grabar y reiniciar.

 aplay -D plughw:c,d /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Noise.wav  , sustituyendo
haciendo aplay -l).

líneas (gracias a [2] ):

Option Audio true
Option HDMI all

(o sea, haciendo aplay -D plughw:1,7 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Noise.wav ,

a) disabling unnecessary daemons
b) instructing grub-pc to use less time to automatically load the kernel
c) opting out of a login manager (kdm, gdm, etc) i.e. automatic login
d) using a light weight window manager with only the necessary services
e) using noatime in fstab
f) tweaking the kernel i.e. custom compilation of the kernel?

Infelizmente o disco rígido deste servidor começou a

1 - conectei um segundo disco rígido no servidor;
2 - dei o boot no servidor através do cd do Ubuntu Rescue Remix;
disco rígido com defeito, ddrescue /dev/hda /mnt/img/server.IMG;
4 - desconectei o disco rígido do servidor com problema e conectei no
servidor novo;
5 - criei uma máquina virtual do zero;
disco rígido virtual, ddrescue /mnt/img/server.IMG /dev/sda;

[SOLVED] (argh) Could not perform immediate configuration

 I decided to go ahead and try upgrading to Wheezy on this laptop (Acer Aspire

 problems might clear. Now I'm stuck at Could not perform immediate
 configuation on 'libgstreamer0.10-0'. I've gone through the man page twice
 and checked the example configurations, where it says Do not set this to
 'false', see man page and have no idea how to get past this blockage --
 'purge' wants to remove half the system, apt-get -f only returns the
 same error message, etc. Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated.

Solved, thanks to kindly user Karl Fogel who wrote me off-list. This procedure
is what did it:

 apt-get update
 apt-get install gnome
 apt-get -f install (had to do that about three times before full success)
 apt-get -f dist-upgrade

This got me past the 'libgstreamer' problem and on to full upgrade from
Squeeze to Wheezy, which I was doing in hopes it might help with other
problems I'd been having (black screen on Resume, squashed images on display,
and unable to transfer more than 32k). This upgrade _did_ immediately solve
the squashed images problem -- Gnome's System Settings now offers sensible
resolution choices for the size of the laptop's screen (15.4 inches wide).

[SOLVED] Squeeze on 15 laptop, change aspect ratio?

  but the aspect ratio seems wrong (too wide; kinda squashed).  Gnome and Xorg
  are offering only resolutions of 1024x768 and 800x600.  Both have this
  ratio,
  such that items I know should appear round appear as ovals instead.

[snip]

 Hi Jeff,

 You can set your screen resolution using xrandr. You can easily find
 several howtos; after a quick search I found an ubuntu thread [1] and
 a ubuntu wiki page [2] that seemed appropriate to me (though I did not
 check extensively, I post them just to give you an idea). Just
 remember that those change will not survive a reboot, but you can
 automate the execution on every boot. The link I posted should explain
 this, too: for instance, you can paste them in
 /etc/gdm3/Init/Default.

 Hope this helps,
 Lorenzo

 [2]
 https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Config/Resolution#Adding%20undetected%20resolutions

Problem pretty much resolved itself with upgrade from Squeeze to Wheezy.
As soon as that was successfully done, Gnome's 'System Settings' presented
a range of choices for the screen's dimensions, some 4:3, some 16:9, even
one 3:2, all labeled as such. :-)

[SOLVED] Squeeze, Radeon HD 6310, black screen on Resume

 nothing but a black screen on Resume from Suspend. Even Power Off and
 Power On again doesn't clear it -- I've had to remove the battery each
 time to get back to 'normal'. The kernel is 2.6.32-5-amd64.

 I've searched the 'Net extensively on this and tried a variety of tips
 but nothing so far has worked -- have set 'radeon modeset=0' as advised
 by one person, for example, but nothing seemed to change. I expect there
 might be a specific 'quirk' that could be set for this card but I haven't
 yet found any info that seems applicable.

 I gather this problem is fixed in the 2.6.35 kernel but haven't found one
 at Debian, and don't want to move all the way up to the 3.1 kernel.

Having encountered additional problems with Debian on this laptop, I bit the
bullet and went ahead with an upgrade to Wheezy. The path to that wasn't
entirely smooth -- the first thing that happened was a completely scrambled
image, both console and desktop, with the 3.1 kernel. It was fortunate
I still had the 2.32 kernel installed -- but the point is, after successfully
upgrading, and _then_ installing firmware-linux-nonfree, Resume after
Sleep/Suspend is now working the way it ought to. :-)

It's usually a shell script with embedded archive/binary blob.

gnome3 and nvidia kernel module

2011-12-10 Thread kuLa

Hi all,
just yesterday after upgrade on testing strange issue appeared.
Gnome3 stopped to start with gnome-shell in favour on Gnome Classic.
Some tests showed that popper module is loaded but gnome/gdm3 can't
see/recognized it.
And now the strange part; restart of gdm3 is bringing me a gnome-shell
without any other action required.

Any ideas what it might be?

Hi Sthu!
  You can also use sndfile-resample from the samplerate-programs. If you don't
mind building a smal app from source, there's also Fons Adriaensen's resample
program, which I think is currently hosted on linuxaudio.org. It's advantage,
it is faster.
  I think sox might also do it, but I'm not sure about the quality of the
algorithms.

 I upgraded to Wheezy and am having some success. I have sound in
 MythTV, by specifying the audio device to use. How can I get
 applications such as Rhythmbox to use HDMI audio? Pulseaudio is
 installed on my system, but I don't have any desktop environment (so
 no
 gnome sound properties dialogs). I'm running Openbox.

In the past, the usual way for doing this was by setting the choosen
audio card as the deafult device for ALSA, to redirect all of the
output
sound there.

   OK, I've created /etc/asound.conf as follows:

   pcm.!default {
   type hw
   card 1
   device 7
   }
   ctl.!default {
   type hw
   card 1
   device 7
   }

   (I got the card and device numbers by running aplay -l).

   This gives me sound for mplayer, for instance. Rhythmbox and VLC do not
   play any sound, however. I can get VLC to play by changing the output
   module from default to alsa.

 My current /etc/asound.conf is as follows. It works, but I can't swear that
 it's 100% by-the-book.

 pcm.pulse {
 type pulse
 }
 ctl.pulse {
 type pulse
 }

 pcm.!default {
 type hw
 card 1
 device 7
 }
 ctl.!default {
 type hw
 card 1
 device 7
 }

  Hum... I also have tried with a custom ~/.asoundrc file and it seems
  it does not make any difference here (running GNOME + gnome-shell +
  pulseaudio).

  What it works like a charm is selecting the sound device to use from
  gnome-shell audio applet but, to be sincere, I don't know from where s
  this volume indicator coming from nor its name :-?

   I think that any application that attempts to use PulseAudio (which is
   the default, I think) will not play. Can anyone suggest a change to
   asound.conf to correct this? Or maybe the fix has nothing to do with
   asound.conf?

  You can try with PA default/suggested applications to control the sound
  server, like pavucontrol, padevchooser (I think this is now somehow
  deprecated), gnome-pulse-applet or whatever applet that integrates
  with PA and openbox and allows you to select the output device.

 I used gstreamer-properties and set the default output plugin to
 PulseAudio Sound Server and the default output device to High Definition
 Audio Controller, which is my HDMI output. In gconf-editor, I set
 /system/gstreamer/0.10/default/audiosink to
 pulsesink device=alsa_output.hw_1_7
 and I did the same for /system/gstreamer/0.10/default/musicaudiosink, which
 I think is what rhythmbox references.

I forgot something. I also added:
load-module module-alsa-sink device=hw:1,7
to /etc/pulse/default.pa

I put it right under the line:
#load-module module-pipe-sink

(not sure if it's position in the file is important)

 Basically this seems like a big workaround. I have not made a single
 default setting, rather I've fixed every audio application individually
 (MythTV required me to specify my HDMI device -- I could not simply
 accept ALSA-Default).

 The only thing I didn't try yet is blacklisting modules for my onboard
 audio. Maybe that would simplify things by eliminating one audio device.

eMachines does not have a good record. All vendors I've read about ship with

Changing helper applications triggered by KMail using Gnome DE

2011-12-10 Thread AG

Hi list

How does one change or configure the applications triggered by KMail
within a Gnome DE?

For example, if I click on a KMail link indicating a *.pdf file from the
web it open Xpdf which, while a fine application in its own right, is
not what I want triggered - I'd rather use acroread. Similarly, with a
URL that ends in *.swf VLC is opened and cannot load the weblink.

I've looked on the web and the suggestions available given my search
string seem specific for SuSE and suggest that the configuration is done
via Konqueror. Under System Preferences Preferred Applications
nothing seems relevant either.

Is there a trick to this or is really a case of configuring this via
Konqueror because it doesn't seem possible via KMail directly.

TIA for any help.

Cheers

AG

 in the laptop (though, it worked well enough during netinstall)...?

This problem cleared up with successful upgrade to Wheezy _and_ with
installation of firmware-linux-nonfree. :-)

web server migration

2011-12-10 Thread steve reilly

good afternoon

looking for input on moving a couple small family websites from a
desktop machine running lenny to a poweredge 4600 I just bought.
poweredge has two 73gb scsi drives, perc3 embedded raid. in process of
formatting drives, and then setting up container. desktop has a 300gb
drive, all one partition, but only about 4gb used. ideally would like
to just somehow dd or rsync contents of the desktop to the other machine.

question. how would YOU do it with minimal hassle, ie. having to edit
config files, databases and such. this thing has been running since
etch and been a learning process along the way i doubt my idea of
cloning would work, but?

Re: web server migration

2011-12-10 Thread Mark Neidorff
More information needed, please. You said that your desktop machine is
running lenny.

I'll start with a few questions and let other folks add theirs

1. Do you want to try squeeze on the poweredge or stay with lenny? Is the
hardware in the server supported in lenny or do you have to use squeeze?
2. Are you going to use raid on the disks? (remember you are using about 4gb
now).
3. What else is the server going to do for you, now and in the future?
4. What web server are you using and what version is it? What are you
planning to use on the new machine?
5. What provisions are you making for backups?

yes, it is.

I'll start with a few questions and let other folks add theirs

1. Do you want to try squeeze on the poweredge or stay with lenny? Is the
hardware in the server supported in lenny or do you have to use squeeze?
yes, would be installing latest stable, squeeze. as far as I can tell,
I had no problems with hardware, i installed squeeze on one of the
drives when i got it couple weeks ago. only thing that did not work was
usb ports. i figured thatd be easy enough to fix, but i dont need them
anyway. raid is embedded and run at hardware level so no drivers needed
for that. pretty sure on that anyway.

2. Are you going to use raid on the disks? (remember you are using about 4gb
now).
with 2 73 gb drives installed the raid config (perc3) gives me 2 options
when i create a container, raid zero, which i dont want, or raid one
(mirrored) so thats what i planned on using. plan on getting a 3rd
drive down the road for hot spare. once i get up and running im assuming
the raid config has option for that.

3. What else is the server going to do for you, now and in the future?

strictly webserver.

4. What web server are you using and what version is it? What are you
planning to use on the new machine?
currently apache2- 2.2.9, sticking with apache on new one, looks like
2.2.16 on squeeze

5. What provisions are you making for backups?
automated daily wordpress, database zip backups to another machine in
the house, plus the raid one (main reason i got the new server was so i
had some sort of redundancy) guess i could have just got a raid card,
but this poweredge was wicked cheap. got from a government contractor
friend.

thanks

steve

automated daily wordpress,

Ok... so this is about moving a wordpress installation from one machine
to another.

If it were me, I'd:

1. Get your Debian installation working.

2. Install MySql Apache, copy your config files, tweak as necessary.

3. If you have any static files being served by Apache, move them over.

4. Install Wordpress.

5. Follow the directions at http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress

6. If you have anything else running under your webserver (e.g., a wiki
package), look for application-specific migration instructions and
follow them.

 Mmm, I'm using GNOME so can't directy try it but there is a thread at

 There is also debian-kde mailing list, maybe it is worth to ask there,
 they should know better how to deal in testing with GTK+ based
 applications and their appearance :-?

I manage quite a few different web sites, including my own personal one
based on Wordpress. Generically they are all managed in a similar way,
although to be fair, there is a slight difference in how I manage my
workpress one.

Firstly, in general, I have two versions of the web site. One that
remains on my desktop where I develop changes to it, and one that
resides on the production server, wherever that may be. My home server
runs a copy of dnsmasq as a dns server for the house and has a config
file that defines lots of host names for my desktop machine. These name
let me know what site I am using but all sit in the .home domain - so
for instance, my production site is www.chandlerfamily.org.uk, my home
equivalent if cf.home. Another site I manage is
www.melindasbackups.com, my home machine is mb.home. etc etc

I run the apache2-mpm-itk package on my desktop. This allows me to add
the AssignUserId directive to my virtual host config to ensure that I am
reading and writing files to the location in my home directory as me
rather than the more normal www-data.

I run local copies of mysql and postgres (and sqlite) on my desktop
machine as they are all databases that drive the different sites I
manage. There are mostly copies I have taken of the production site,
although I normally ensure that the password to access them is different.

The web site itself is stored in a git repository. Generally speaking
there is the files that make up the web site itself - stored in a sub
directory called web plus other important supporting files (for instance
the apache config) which are stored in other directories.

The important part is post commit/post-merge hooks (stored in
.git/hooks/post-commit with .git/hooks/post-merge symlinked to it). Here
is the version I use with my Wordpress site (which, as I implied above I
manage slightly differently to the other sites, as I only update the
theme files this way). Nevertheless it shows the key use

#!/bin/bash
#
# If merging or committing to site or test branches, load up
appropriate directories on host

branch=$(git branch | sed  -n s/^\*\ //p)
version=$(git describe --tags)

cd $(git rev-parse --show-cdup)
echo ?php echo '$version';?  web/inc/version.inc

if [ $branch == site ]; then
# Copy all to the theme directory on main site
rsync -aqz --delete ./
www-data@owl:/var/www/chandlerfamily/wp-content/themes/czen/

fi

#   Changelog
#
# 02 Mar 2011 - Initial version after setting theme as its own repository

This interesting part is how I parse the git branch I am on, and
establish a version number for the site. The version gets embedded into
a file for inclusion on the site, then IF I am on the site branch I use
rsync to ssh copy the appropriate files to the appropriate place on the
production server.

(With wordpress, I allow its own update mechanisms to install and manage
itself and the plugins - with other packages - particularly the SMF
forum I use quite a bit I use a different mechanism that is detailed in
this article

http://www.chandlerfamily.org.uk/2011/03/managing-smf-software-in-git/

)

Although my explanation may seem quite complex, it works out as really
useful tidy way to manage sites. They always need updating from time to
time and it is quite hard to remember all the details if you work with
lots of different sites. With my mechanism its simple - ensure you are
on branch master with git (my command line prompt actually includes the
branch name in square brackets when ever I am inside a git repository*)
make the changes and test locally. When you are happy with them do

git checkout site
git merge master
(site is automatically updated to new version)
git checkout master

* The command line prompt is set in .bashrc
PS1='${debian_chroot:+($debian_chroot)}\[\033[01;32m\]\u@\h\[\033[00m\]:\[\033[01;34m\]\w\[\033[00m\]$(output-git-head-or-blank)\$
'

with the command output-git-head-or-blank being

#!/bin/bash
PS_GIT=$(git symbolic-ref HEAD 2/dev/null)echo [$(basename
$PS_GIT)]exit

# else output nothing
