No entiendo lo que dices de ejecutar el comando pero bueno, que lo que 
sugiere el manual de MySQL es que es necesario activar el privilegio FILE 
sobre el usuario para que pueda ejecutar el volcado de datos.

No todos los servicios de hospedaje permiten esta opción precisamente por 
motivos de seguridad (p. ej., en los servidores que tengo bajo Solaris 
está desactivado pero en linux suelen habilitarlo para facilitar la 
gestión de las bdd a los usuarios a través de phpMyAdmin).

Estaba pensando que además de la multiplexación y dependiendo de la 
herramienta que uses para hacer la copia de seguridad (p. ej., tar) si 
ésta lo permite podrías decirle a la aplicación que envíe la salida del 
progreso de la copia a un archivo de texto al que puedas acceder desde 
cualquier otro equipo iniciando una segunda sesión.

 camaleon no c muy bien que aplicacion es pero ella va imprimiendo el

los mensajes se agrupan por hilos donde se habla de un asunto concreto.

Puedes ir a la página de Adobe¹ y descarga flashplayer (archivo .tar.gz 
para tu sistema de 32 o 64 bits, ojo con eso), lo descomprimes en el 
escritorio y copias únicamente el archivo libflashplayer.so dentro de 
la carpeta plugins de tu perfil de Iceweasel.

Comprueba que te funciona desde este enlace² y/o entrando en YouTube.

Bien, pues como yo también he leído por ahí que no es recomendable darle 
permiso / privilegio FILE  en MySQL a otro usuario que no sea root, por temas 
de seguridad, ejecutaré la exportación con el usuario root.

Lo que está claro es que el usuario pepe no podía realizar la exportación a 
fichero .csv, porque no tenía el permiso / privilegio FILE.

Debes saber bien donde los descomprimes o será dificil ayudarte.

Supongo lo descargaste en  downloads o en Descargas, ¿es así?, depende
del idioma de tu escritorio.

Ahora, al descomprimir, si quieres descomprimilo ahí mismo, el punto
es que ubiques bien dode lo descomprimes.

 Lo descomprimí supuestamente en mi escritorio pero no lo veo.

 De todos modos en las opciones, entre a:

No se puede tratar de ésta sección, el copiado del archivo lo debes hacer
desde nautilus o dolphin, no sé cual tengas instalado.

¿Ubicas tu carpeta de usuario, o tu carpeta personal?

Hago la pregunta porque si vienes de windows, pues es algo distinto la
estructura
de tus carpetas personales.

Pues NO.

Primero, el asunto Primeros tropiezos no indica el problema que tienes 
(salvo que vayas caminando por la calle y hayas tropezado con algún 
pedrusco...), por lo que cuanto más preciso sea el asunto más gente de la 
lista podrá saber lo que te sucede, se interesará por tu mensaje, lo 
leerá y te ayudará. Si no sabe de qué va el tema, pasará al siguiente 
correo.

Segundo, tenías que haber respondido al mensaje que he enviado yo, no 
crear un hilo nuevo (no ahora, eso tenías que haberlo hecho antes).

Me he encontrado una cosa algo extraña...

Tengo un contenedor OpenVZ sobre un Server PROXMOX.

En dicho contenedor configuro una tarea en crontab para que se ejecute, por 
ejemplo, a las 22:00, pero la tarea no se ejecuta a esa hora, sino que lo hace 
una hora más tarde, a las 23:00.

He mirado la hora, tanto en el Contenedor como en el Server PROXMOX, con el 
comando date, y en ambos casos es correcta.

¿De dónde está sacando la hora de ejecución crontab?

Hummm, espera que tienes razón, es la correcta (no sé por qué pensaba que 
iba ya por la 12).

Pero si no lo encuentras el archivo mal andamos. Mira a ver si lo tienes 
dentro de /home/tu_usuario/Descargas.

Bueno, eso sí que es raro. 

¿La hora del registro de ejecución de la tarea es correcta? ¿Has 
comprobado la zona horaria, que sea la adecuada?

 ¿De dónde está sacando la hora de ejecución crontab?

Pues te diría que del anfitrión/nodo, o al menos la mayoría de soluciones 
de virtualización usan su propio sistema de sincronización con la máquina 
que hace de host pero no está de más añadir tu propia solución en el 
contenedor que pasa por usar ntpd o algún paquete ligero que mantenga 
la hora de la VM ajustada.

Debes copiar libflashplayer.so

en /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/

quedando así el resultado final

/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so


si lees el manual dice exactamente todo esto.

No importa donde lo coloques. Puedes hacerlo en tu usuario con el de Mozilla
o Iceweasel dejándolo en:

/home/tuusuario/.mozilla/plugins

Sin más. Si eres único en la máquina, pero si tienes más usuarios en
entornos gráficos, entonces mejor es esa la que comentas, pero si es la
única persona que lo usa no lo veo sentido ponerlo en
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins a no ser que tengas más usuarios necesarios.

archivo.
Y la carpeta plugins /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/
dentro de esta carpeta tengo:
2 archivos  *.so
- libgnome-shell-browser-plugin.so
- librhythmbox-itms-detection-plugin.so
1 archivo *.so pero con la flechita que tienen los accesos directos
- flash-mozilla.so

El archivo lo puedo copiar en la carpeta Escritorio pero no me deja
pegarlo en la carpeta plugins /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/

Va por la 12, pero en Linux es sólo para Chrome. Para el resto de 
navegadores, según la Web de FlashPlayer, dice esto:


Mozilla, Firefox, SeaMonkey (Flash Player 11.2 is the last supported 
Flash Player version for Linux. Adobe will continue to provide security 
updates.)


Y la última versión para estos, es la 11.2.202.336

solo necesitas libflashplayer.so ni mas ni menos, lo demás es irrelevante.

Es que tu usuario no tiene privilegios

intenta entrar al usuario con mas privilegios root

usa una terminal y as

$su root [enter] 

te darás cuenta que estas en root por # o poniendo el comando  whoami [enter]



Si te complicas as como dice Santiago José López Borrazás

No te deja pegarlo en /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/ porque para poderla
pegar ahí necesitas permisos root:

Puedes entrar a terminal y:

Te ubicas desde la terminal en la carpeta donde tengas el
libgnome-shell-browser-plugin.so

Sí tienes activado el sudo (debe ser que sí):
$sudo cp libgnome-shell-browser-plugin.so /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/

si no pues entras con su y aplicas
$su
#cp libgnome-shell-browser-plugin.so /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/

Programo la tarea a las 23:00, se ejecuta a las 00:00, el el syslog aparece 
ejecutada a las 00:00, y ambos sistemas, tanto el Host como el OpenVZ tienen la 
hora correcta, las 00:00.

Están en hora, el tema es que lo que programe en el crontab se ejecuta una hora 
después.

Seguro que si lo tienes, lo que ocurre es que en linux, los archivos y 
directorios que empiezan por punto (.) son ocultos y no se ven por defecto.


Prueba ls -a /home/carlosab verás como aparece ;)

Lo que acabo de darme cuenta es que al pedirle la fecha, en vez de darme la UTC 
me da la CET.

Copiar libflashplayer.so en .mozilla

GENTE GRACIAS, vamos a arrancar de CERO.

Mi Iceweasel no tiene el Flash Player.

Tengo el archivo:
libflashplayer.so (ya lo descomprimi)

Lo quise copiar en:

/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/

No me deja. Porque no tengo permiso.

En:
/home/carlosab/.mozilla/plugins
.mozilla  -no lo veo porque esta oculto.-

Que comando debería usar para que sea visible?

Creo que me sera mas facil copiar y pegar con el mouse ;)   (se puede?)

Es que tengo que ir conociendo de apoco los comandos, eh usado la
Terminal con el ubuntu hace un tiempo atras pero no me acuerdo
nada.  :(

(mejor ayudenme en este hilo que creo que es mas claro para todos -por
el titulo/asunto-)

No. Tienes que programar el Nautilus para que te muestren los ocultos que
empiezan con un '.'. Sino, no te va a dejar.

 Es que tengo que ir conociendo de apoco los comandos, eh usado la
 Terminal con el ubuntu hace un tiempo atras pero no me acuerdo
 nada.  :(

Como hemos dicho arriba, si quieres descomprimido ya:

cp libflashplayer.so /home/carlosab/.mozilla/plugins

¡Acabarás mucho antes! ¡Ya descubrirás muchas cosas aún poco a poco! :)

 (mejor ayudenme en este hilo que creo que es mas claro para todos -por
 el titulo/asunto-)

:-) Con el tiempo verás que es muy fácil tener el Linux para tu mejor
experiencia como novato. Luego es cuando tendrás que lidiar con otras cosas

Carlos te recomiendo que visites el siguiente enlace [1], ya que hasta
ahora solo has estado repitiendo lo que todos te dicen que hagas, y
tengo la impresión que no estas entendiendo nada, ni de nivel de
jerarquía de usuarios, ni permisos, ni jerarquía de archivos, etc.
Luego puedes revisar el resto de la documentación en [2], baja el doc
del [3] y tenlo a mano cuando trabajes con Debian.

Creo que has equivocado la pregunta, según entiendo lo que quieres
es tener instalado el flash player de adobe (nonfree).

Para eso:
a) debes tener habilitado el repositorio non-free en tu fichero sources.list

b) refrescar el listado de paquetes disponibles:
# apt-get update

c) instalar el paquete: flashplugin-nonfree
# apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree

Observación: algunas veces me ha pasado que deja de funcionar
tras alguna actualización, entonces podrías ver si está configurado
en el sistema de alternativas como el valor por omisión:

* Para ver como se llama la alternativa relacionada a flash:
$ update-alternatives --get-selections | grep flash
flash-mozilla.so   auto
/usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree/libflashplayer.so

* Para listar las opciones disponibles de esa alternativa:
$ update-alternatives --list flash-mozilla.so
/usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree/libflashplayer.so
/usr/lib/gnash/libgnashplugin.so

* Para configurar la opción para una alternativa:
$ update-alternatives --config flash-mozilla.so
Existen 2 opcioens para la alternativa flash-mozilla.so (que provee
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/flash-mozilla.so).

  Selección   RutaPrioridad  Estado

* 0/usr/lib/flashplugin-nonfree/libflashplayer.so   50

Empezemos con algo sencillo, no escibas en mayúsculas, eso se deja entender 
como si estuvieras gritando. 

Segundo navegar por una página es tan sencillo como leer y darle clic al link 
de tu interés. 

Tercero en Google si colocas manual de debian encontrarás lo que buscas.

Cuarto que seas novato no te exime de analizar las cosas que aquí te digamos, 
de nada valdrán nuestros esfuerzos por ayudarte si tu no te esfuerzas un poco 
en comprender lo que decimos y buscar por tu propio pue un poco más.

pdf? Para eso no necesitas el flash player.

Mira más fácil, abre synaptic busca flash y selecciona
flashplugin-nonfree pincha en aplicar y voila, listo el flash player
directo de adobe.

Nao estou conseguindo configurar o usuario para usar sua pasta apenas e

I just bought a pair of the Seagate drives to use as system drives for a couple 
of servers.

As I read the specs, Fabrice is correct:  The drive itself will figure out what 
to put in flash based on usage -- the user doesn't get a say.  I'm hoping that 
it will decide to put the interesting parts of root and /usr there (to speed 
up booting), along with the database indexes for the servers (to speed up 
normal production use).

It would be fun to have some kind of an ioctl to figure out what actually 
happens...  Not much chance of that, I'm guessing, but it sure would be 
interesting!

Anybody who works for Seagate on this list?

Thanks! I was wondering about that and didn't want to jump into deep 
water without looking first. Do you see any improvement ...like boot 
times? I'd hate for the darn thing to be looking for a Windows file 
system to be installed. Ric




I did find it quick to boot but I was coming from a hold hdd on 
different system, so I can't directly compare. On the other hand now I 
have repalced it by a ssd and the boot time seems the same whereas big 
application like gimp, that I barely use, seems faster, so I'd say this 
NAND were put to a good use. Don't worry about it needing a windows though.

I run three or four sid installations. Occasionally a new kernel does
not boot, often due to a grub problem. There was a year or so when
someone forgot that a separate boot partition is possible three times.
The second and third occasions were at least easy to fix once I knew
what was happening.

Anyway, you're forgetting about security updates.
 

Yes, it wasn't intentional, I forgot to return things to normal once
the problem had been fixed.

AFAIUI, if the package has a different name, as newer releases of
kernels do, then APT won't consider it an update, it is just another
package. 

Hopefully, the average newbie to this list does not run Sid, but giving
the impression that APT won't replace kernels as it is a bit risky is
incorrect and misleading.

APT will happily replace any package you tell it too, including kernels.
Of course, for a security patch, the package name doesn't change, 
just the version

Did you read my previous post? 
I'd just give it the whole disk - one partition. Although, you may want
a separate home partion, your choice, now that you know the pitfalls of
choosing the wrong sizes. :)

Yes, which is why the metapackage is necessary if you want to keep up
with the latest kernel automatically.

The risk is about having that happen without noticing. Generally, I
keep an eye on what sid is updating, but even this long after a
release, it's still tens of megabytes a day. I don't check all of them,
but hopefully listbugs shows the worst problems, and I can deal with
trouble with minor packages. I do look carefully at new kernels, and
have a quick check on the Net to see if anyone else has had problems,
so I consider it a risk to upgrade a kernel in sid, or even testing,
automatically, given the chance that I will be distracted and fail to
notice it.

Yes, I realise I should carefully scrutinise every single package
before upgrading it, not just kernels, but if you use sid in anger, and
there's no point in just keeping it around as a curiosity, then life is
too short.

As Chris and others have said elsewhere, one partition is generally OK
on a workstation. You might keep /home on a separate one, to make
reinstallation a little easier if it becomes necessary, but if you're
keeping valuable data in /home, you should be backing it up anyway.

On a server, there is a risk that /var will suddenly explode in size
or just enlarge slowly without being managed properly. This cannot be
allowed to choke the system and kill it, so at least /var will have a
separate partition. The chance of this happening on a workstation,
generally rebooted every day and not running external services, is very
small. Also, a workstation will normally have a human sitting at the
screen most of the time, and a warning of low disc space can be dealt
with.

I run several partitions on my main workstation, because I experiment a
bit, but my mobile installations are single-partition. The main
workstation has LVM installed, so I can resize the partitions if
necessary.

Something really bad happened. I went to format all my partitions from
the windows 8 installation menu (Bootable usb) and when I went to
format boot partition of windows 100 mb,the installer hanged (typical
of windows) After waiting for say half an hour, I hard-rebooted the
laptop and it was stuck on the bios splash screen. I could do nothing,
could not enter bios,nor could enter the boot menu.

So I took my laptop to the Asus service center. They connected my
hardisk to a casing and the hardisk was not even detected on their
computers.
So they confidently said that your hardisk has been damaged and no
matter what you do, you cannot revive it. You can get a new hardisk
for blah blah money.

I am so badly screwed. After waiting for two months to get my laptop
back (motherboard replacement) I am so badly screwed. I so badly
wanted to prepare for gsoc, literally cried.

Thanks a lot everyone for taking out their precious time and replying
so beautifully to me. So thankful to everyone!

I always read all package names before updating, for each distro I use.
For Arch in addition I should read the news on the homepage, but often I
don't do it.

Newbies are unable to evaluate what package updates could be very risky,
so for Debian they should stay with stable and for Arch they always
should read the news first.

And they never ever should update Ubuntu :D.

Btw. backups are a nice invention ;). A tidy packages cache is useful
too.

IIRC there's a roll back archive/repository for Debian too, but I don't
remember the URL.

Hi Roelof,

My workstation uses Debian GNU/Linux 7 (amd64),
and my partition scheme is :

Filesystem  1K-blocks
Used Available Use% Mounted on
rootfs   48059932
19464828  26153756  43% /

/dev/md2   1872874484
833246124 944491852  47% /home

As you can see the root file system is about 50GB and only 20GB are used.

On the other hand directories what are supposed to contains a lot of
data are linked to /home like /var/lib/postgresql - /home/postgresql,
but you can do the same for valuable data such as git repositories, SVN,
etc.

Because your disk is only 80GB you may prefer single root partition, but
do not forger to make backup when you are going to make a fresh install
on the disk.

Yes, one partition has got the advantage that you don't need to care
about how to allocate HDD space. Even a separated /home partition isn't
needed, _but_ if you e.g. need to read/write data for real-time usage,
it might be useful to have a separated drive for this data.

No it just gave me the copying speed of HDD. Its a standard linux
utility but I forgot the name.

 Suggestions from me (and no reasons to trust me more than anyone else, 
 perhaps):

 / (root partition) should be at least large enough to handle a /var
 gone out of control if /var doesn't mount, or if you don't have a
 separate /var. Minimum 4G (base ten or base two, either way). I'd go
 with 8G, since you're starting with a drive bigger than 120G. Larger
 if you do choose to combine /usr and /var, and so forth, with the root
 partition.

 /etc? I've seen recommendations to separate /etc as a partition. It's
 a bit of a trap for a home-use machine, don't do it this time around.
 Keep /etc with /.

 /bin? /sbin? /ilb? Keep these combined with / unless you like to
 confuse the kernel when it i trying to boot and can't find any of the
 standard tools or even some of the libraries it needs to boot even to
 single-user mode these days.

 /usr? There are strange things that happen to Red Hat (Fedora, etc.)
 style machines during boot that indicate against /usr being separate.
 I've been bitten by them on Fedora, which is one of the reasons I am
 using Debian now.

 I keep /usr separate because it tends to change a lot when you install
 and remove packages. It's that simple.

 However, you don't need more than 32G for /usr unless you really go
 crazy installing (literally) every package available, and installing a
 lot of packages is one good way to slow your machine down on boot and
 login. (Of course, if you don't install lots of stuff, you never get
 to play with it and discover new tools. :-/)

 Well, be a bit careful what you install beyond what you know you
 need, but not too careful. Anyway, 32G for /usr should not be
 overkill, and won't be too time consuming when it has to be fsck-ed.

 fsck demonstrates one good reason to keep partitions small. Large
 partitions take longer on fsck and similar maintenance.

 And if you ever have to search for lost text files with testdisk or
 such, larger than 32G can be a real, serious show stopper. (I gave up
 when I lost two-days' work to a bad Makefile just two weeks back,
 because the files were text files and too small for testdisk to see in
 the partition they were in. Could have resorted to lower-level
 techniques like grep /dev/sda3  or hexdump -C | grep, but I decided it
 would be faster to use my gray-matter and type the stuff in from
 scratch. It was. (First time took two days to produce the files,
 second time took four hours, and was good for checking my work.
 Programming is like that in a lot of cases. 8-o)

 Unfortunately, /usr/bin, /usr/sbin, and /usr/lib may contain stuff
 that the boot-up process wants to use, and may thus cause problems if
 they can't be mounted. As I say, I saw that on Fedora. Not on Debian.
 That says something about the differences between the two, I think.

 (Fedora folks keep themselves busy inventing solutions to problems of
 their own making, it seems to me. That's okay for them. Maybe someday
 in the distant future, the side-tour on systemd will bear meaningful
 fruit. I don't expect it to happen this year or next, and that's
 another reason I'm using Debian now. They can have their fun. I need
 to focus on other things, myself.)

 So, for Debian, I recommend a separate /usr, 32G since you have it.

 /tmp? Some say it is not used any more. I say give it at least 8G. 16G
 since you have a big HD to start with. I've used it on odd occasions,
 and making it too small is bad news. Keeping it separate, so that you
 can separate the stuff that changes from the stuff that doesn't is
 still a good idea.

 /var? Similar to my advice on /tmp, separate partition to separate the
 stuff that changes a lot from the stuff that doesn't change as much.

 But /var tends to stay around, where /tmp is supposed to be cleared
 (or clear-able) on boot. So, I'd recommend 16G or even 32G for /var.

 /var gets really hammered on system updates. /var/log gets filled up
 quickly when things go south.

 And there is /var/tmp which gets used more than /tmp these days. (Both
 still get used, even though there are those who claim that ramdisk
 temporary files make more sense. Such arguments tend to ignore certain
 real-world issues and practices.)

aptitude has just upgraded me automatically from 3.10-x bpo to 3.11-x 
bpo then to 3.12-0 bpo.   I imagine it depends on what it has been 
told to do: safe-upgrade or full-upgrade.

Irrespective of upgrade/safe-upgrade and dist-upgrade/full-upgrade,
linux-image won't be bumped up to a later kernel version if you don't

I also had good luck with *buntus, but it's good luck, it could go
wrong, I read it all the times on *buntu lists and I definitively
disagree regarding to iOS upgrades for my iPad 2. I won the iPad, if I
would have bought the iPad, I would be pissed off. And AFAIK it's
impossible to downgrade to the last release of iOS that was stable on my
iPad.

A little bit Linux related: There was jackd available for the iPad, but
when Apple switched from iOS 6 to iOS 7, they changed something and it's
impossible to use jackd now and also impossible for the coders to make
jackd available for the iPad again.

I created the directory /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d (which is not present by default) 
and created a .conf file inside it containing the following:

Identifier nvidia card
Driver nouveau
Option GLXVBlank true
EndSection

The completely solves the tearing problem for dragging windows around, and very 
nearly solves the problem when playing videos, though they tear a lot less than 
they used to.

more than 12G of RAM

I'm running Jessie on an AMD64 Gigabyte 970A-D3P board with an FX6100 
processor. I had 2x4G DDR3 sticks in it but some of the programs I use 
were causing excessive thrashing. I added a 1x8G DDR3 stick (got a good 
price on it, much cheaper than adding 2x4G) which resolved the thrashing 
problem.


The BIOS shows I have 16G but free shows only 12G. I also ran free on a 
machine with 2x8G DDR3 running Wheezy and it showed 16G when I ran free. 
This suggests that the kernel is handling 16G (as one would expect) in 
the general case and the issue is likely due to my setup.


Since the BIOS shows the full 16G, the problem doesn't seem to be on the 
mainboard. Is there an issue with running interleaved and 
non-interleaved RAM together on the Jessie kernels?

I liket the elegance-colors theme for gnome and as far as I know it it's not 
avaible for debian,

So i try to compile it myself. 

But it has three dependencies which I cannot find the appropiate name in Debian.

glib2-devel

Can anyone tell me what the names in Debian are so I can try that theme ?

installed, so it must upgrade the linux-image it uses - which surely 
comes in the end to the same thing?  

I did not install the metapackage deliberately, in fact I didn't know 
it was there before this thread.  I installed kernel 3.10 from 
backports, which updated automatically first to to 3.11 and then to 
3.12.  Had I wanted it not to upgrade, would I have needed to search 
out the metapackage and remove it?  Or hold it, of course.

Updating not working as expected

Hi,

I installed Jessie on a new computer about 2 months ago. I needed
Jessie to support my network interface. Since then I noticed that I
seeing almost no updates in Synaptic, or when using apt-get. During
the same period on my old computer (also running Jessie) see packages
almost constantly updating.

I did look at a few things on both systems previously and didn't see
anything I could recognize as causing the difference. Today however I
opened the preferences in Synaptic and changed the preferred
distribution from 'Always prefer highest' to 'Prefer versions from
Testing'. Low and behold I now have a very large number of updates
waiting.

But, I don't think I should have to make that change to get normal
updates. I'm thinking this has something to do with the repositories,
which are different between the 2 computers. Here is my repositories

USB wireless network adaptor

Hi,

I'm having a HP laptop running wheezy. The built-in wireless adaptor wasn't
working fine. So bought a Asus usb-n10 wireless adaptor. installed the
drivers and it works fine.
But once i shutdown or restart my laptop, its not working. The lsusb
command shows the wireless adaptor, but the adaptor is not working (not
getting detected in network manager in gnome). only way to make it work is
to restart.
Has anyone faced a similar situation and is there any fix for this issue.
