Perl and locale question
Can someone please help this Perl-ignoramus with the following. I keep on getting, if logged in as user or suid root (and running 2.0 and 2.0.34): perl: warning: Please check that your locale settings LC_ALL (unset) LANG = (us) are supported and installed on your system Falling back to the standard locale (C) perl: warning: Setting locale failed Where/how does one set the above, and what should LC_ALL be set to? LANG on this system is uk, so that should be simple if I knew where to change it. Thanks for all help. Adrian Monk -- Unsubscribe? mail -s unsubscribe [EMAIL PROTECTED] /dev/null
Eterm path question
I have installed the .deb Eterm DR0.7 package, however when I fire it up in X (via an Xterm at present) I get the error messages shell-init: could not get current directory: getcwd: cannot access parent directories job-working-directory: same as above How do I fix this? I have tried putting /usr/X11R6/lib/Eterm in the path, but without effect. TIA Adrian Monk -- Unsubscribe? mail -s unsubscribe [EMAIL PROTECTED] /dev/null
Powerpoint equiv. for Linux?
Does anybody know whether there is an equivalent for Linux/Unix of the MS Powerpoint prog for preparing slides for overhead projector? My wife has to use this prog for preparing slides for medical lectures and because of it (and a private practice invoicing prog) I have to keep a Windows 95 partition which, needless to say, I would dearly like to get shot of. Come to that, any medical doctors or others here who might know of a Linux prog for running private practice - a Linux equivalent of MidexPro, for example? libBrokenLocale - what is it?
On Fri, 12 Jun 1998 11:11:40 -0500, Ed Cogburn wrote: (snip) The install of the Slackware package has overwritten the file permissions of apparently several files and directories. and Steve Lamb wrote: Stupid question, is your passwd file there? That is about the only time I ever see numbers in ls is when the passwd file is fuqed. Thanks to you both for the helpful suggestions (yes my password file is still there and not - as far as I can tell - fuqued, and yes, Slackware had altered the directory permissions on /etc and /var). However: In my /lib directory I have: libBrokenLocale.so.1 - libBrokenLocale-2.0.6 2776 libBrokenLocale-2.0.6.so I have tried re-installing libdb2.3.16.deb and doing ldconfig, without result, and am unsure how to repair the above error - presumably a linking error. I also ried renaming the above files and then re-installing libdb2, but dpkg then complains that it cannot find libBrokenLocale, which the fuquer apparently needs. Any suggestions? Many thanks IA. Help, I've messed up my system
Err, this is embarassing. I had a perfectly working 2.0 system, but because I have now opened a second ISP account with Demon I decided to have a look for scripts on the Demon ftp site. I duly found a package for Slackware, and decided to unzip and untar it to see what scripts it contained which might helpas a guide to setting up my second ppp/pap connection via Demon. By mistake (cringe...) I managed to copy the files to my (Debian 2.0) system and the copies overwrote my Debian files. I have managed to sort out a lot of the resulting Debian-Slackware hybrid mess, but a couple of things I can't find out how to rectify: 1) I can log in as root o.k. (using 2.0.33 boot disk) but some commands only work if I do additionally su, and some don't work at all. If I try to do man pppd, for example, I get libdb2.so.2 : permission denied. If I do updatedb then locate works fine, but after the next reboot the db has vanished again. 2) If I try to log in as user account atheris I get a column of 1000.1000 instead of atheris.atheris (although if I do ls -la /home/atheris from root, then atheris.atheris appears). Also, bash does not read the local .bashrc/..bash_profile but instead tells me /etc/profile : permission denied. In the case of my wife's account I get the same and 1001.1001 instead of katya.katya. In neither case can I run any commands. /etc/profile is there, wr - r -r , but bash will not read it. Anyone know how to fix this self-inflicted grief? Obviously somewhere Slackware has altered permissions or some other things, but after two days of scouring the system I still can't find where. zlib1g/xpm4g problem
I have upgrade using autoup, and am now having some problems installing zlib1g (required by rpm and other progs) and xpm4g (required by icewm, fvwm2 etc.), using dpkg -i, as: xpm4g confilicts with xpm4.7 (=3.4j-0) zlib1g zlib1 (=1.1.0.4.7) I am hesitant of removing xpm4.7 and zlib1, as I don't know what other packages that might break. Anyone one know the workaround t this problem? TIA Adrian Monk -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Problem with SMTP
Having previously has smail, fetchmail and procmail working perfectly I now - after having had to re-install Debian - cannot get fetchmail to work. The error message fetchmail: SMTP connect to (null) failed keeps on appearing, in spite of my having reconfigured smail with smailconfig --force. Ifconfig and route -n seem to show that all is as it should be, and .fetchmailrc is bog standard. One thing: my ISP changed his server setup from having wyenet.co.uk for both incoming and outgoing mail to having wallace.wyenet.co.uk for pop3 and gromit.wyenet.co.uk for SMTP. The former is of course set in .fetchmailrc as poll wallace.wyenet.co.uk, but is there somewhere one should also set for SMTP? Probably an obvious answer, but I seem to be going round in ever decreasing circles, so any help gratefully received. My machine/host name is neptune, and full address is [EMAIL PROTECTED] TIA Adrian Monk -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Where is tc17.6-dev?
Both tk4.2 and tk4.2-dev depend (so dpkg informs me) on tc17.6-dev, however I have been unable to locate this anywhere. Anyone know where it may be found? Help! Xload has gone missing...
For some strange reason I am suddenly unable to load any window managers. Error messages tell me that the system cannot find Xload. Nor can I, either on my box, or on the distribution disk, or at the Debian ftp site. Any one know what Xload is and where to find it? Many thanks i.a. Where is Navigator .deb file?
I read somewhere in this group that there is a .deb file of Navigator 4.03, have hunted high and low at the Debian and Netscape ftp sites, but can't find it.
