I don't believe this is the case. It's putting me right on the spot where I am. 
I live in Colombia, I don't know if somehow ISPs here have a more detailed 
(precise location) database based on IP, or if that is possible at all.
Is there any way I could check to see exactly where Gnome Maps is getting the 
location from? What is the default geolocation service installed by Gnome or 
Debian?

Thank you Curt, that answers my original question and solves all of my issues. 
Now my Night Light is working at the right times and I did not have to turn on 
Location Services. The dconf-editor is also really nice to know about.

I second Zoom. You can install it via flatpak, which might make you feel 
better. I tried jitsi some time ago, I think that will require a bit more setup 
for sure.

And this is my main question. If the Location Services need to be
toggled on. I imagine most of the people on this list are not using

No times are displayed in the settings when selecting Sunset/Sunrise.
That is precisely what I would like to know. I believe this Gnome Night
Light is based on Redshift, but its hard to get info on Gnome programs.
So I need to know what is wrong, my location, my clock, or the
calculation of Sunset/Sunrise.

feature. I have set up night light in the Sunset/Sunrise setting. I
have also correcly set my timezone (location?). My issue is, sunset is
coming and Night Light is gettin activated way after this time. I would
like to ask how I can know where the program is getting my location's
sunset time from?  Is there a way for me to check this?

installing with Flatpak

I would like to ask if there are any drawbacks in installing software
using Flatpak. As far as I understand, this installation method
installs packages in an isolated way (whatever that means). 
I would imagine this would require more disk space. But will
performance of the software be affected when running it this way?

Linphone is also available from a Flatpak. The newer version is much

Hello Nazar,
I have installed the flatpak with the latest version. I am running
Debian 10 and Gnome. When trying to share the screen a message comes up
saying that screen sharing is only available in Gnome on Wayland on
Debian 9+,, and screen sharing does not start. I am baffled by this.
Did you install this from the flatpak??

Gnome Terminal beeps and lags

hello,
In my new Buster installation, when I switch to the Gnome Terminal and
quickly want to write a command, the terminal lags and then beeps (the
bell that sounds when you reach an interaction point), when it should
not be beeping (becuase I have not typed anything that would elicit a
bell), then it lags for a second and executes the command successfully.
I believe this only happens sometimes but am not sure what is
triggering the issue.
Can anyone please guide me in the direction of solving this issue?

I have recently fresh installed Buster on my laptop. I am noticing that
autocomplete (Tab) in my Terminal (Gnome Terminal) is a second slower
than usual. When I push the Tab key it takes a bit longer than usual,
usually it is hard to notice any delay between the stroke and the
autocomplete or response from the Terminal. Can anyone guide me in
finding out what is causing this?? Is some kind of data not being
cached correctly?

No, lo suyo es tomar el fichero en /etc/skel este directorio contiene
los ficheros que se añaden por defecto a una nueva cuenta al crearla.
Por lo que te interesa copiar el fichero /etc/skel/.bashrc

Antes de hacerlo yo miraría las diferencias entre este fichero y tu
.bashrc para ver qué cambios hay entre los dos (por si has hecho una
modificación y se te ha olvidado o para ver qué es lo que está
fallando).

Uma coisa boa que aprendi na iniciação cientifica foi isso.
Primeiro: Google, comunidades, listas e depois de esgotadas as
possibilidades perguntar aos universitários :)

duas só hoje meu notebook.
E preciso de um ambiente estável pra implementar um ambiente de
virtualização da pós.

Mas queria voltar a usar o bom e velho debian pela estabilidade. Porém, não
sei qual foi a bruxaria que não consegui de forma alguma acessar nenhum

Installation Debian 9.7 HP 240G laptop

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to install debian using the debian 9.7 64 bits non-free firmware
iso in a HP 240G laptop, with 120Gb SSD and 4Gb of RAM. The non-free
firmware is needed by the Realtek network adapters

I'm using a 8Gb pendrive for usb booting and have already tried with a 16Gb
pendrive

The instalation fails in the end, when triyng to configure package manager,
using the cli installer, the error messages are:

fclose: No space left in the disk
libkmod: kmod_load_new_from_loaded could not open /proc/modules: No
such file or directory
error: could not get a list of modules: No such file or directory
grep: /proc/meminfo: no such file or directory
Cannot determine system memory

It says there is no space left in the disk, but there is nothing in the
disk. I've selected automatic partiotining in a clean disk.

Boa tarde a todos,

Estou tentando instalar a imagem iso do debiam 9.7 64 bits non-free
firmware em um notebook HP 240G, com 120 Gb SSd e 4Gb de RAM. O firmware
não livre é necessário por causa dos adaptadores de rede Realtek

Estou utilizando um pendrive de 8Gb para fazer boot e já tentei utilizar
outro de 16 Gb

A instalação falha no final, no momento de instalação e configuração do
gerenciador de pacotes. A mensagem de erro é:

fclose: No space left in the disk

O instalador diz que não há espaço no disco, mas o disco está completamente

Puede que sera una pregunta tonta, ¿pero estás seguro que tienes seleccionado 
el dispositivo de salida correspondiente? Cuando conecto mis audífonos USB 
tengo que cambiar la salida de la predeterminada de la laptop a los cascos.

Si estás usando salida gráfica, puedes encontrar ésto haciendo click derecho en 
el applet de sonido de tu escritorio.

This is the problem, I have the binfmt-support service disabled by default. 
Enabling this makes davmail working again.

Cannot start davmail service

Hi list:

I have a problem with davmail package in debian testing and need some advise. 

If I install it I can start and stop the service via systemctl without any 
problem and it works flawlessly.

However, after a reboot, the service does not start. I get the following 
error:

abr 26 10:51:00 localhot systemd[17207]: davmail.service: Failed to execute 
command: Exec format error
abr 26 10:51:00 localhot systemd[17207]: davmail.service: Failed at step EXEC 
spawning /usr/bin/davmail: Exec format error

If I *uninstall* and then reinstall the package (and some java dependencies) 
then it works again, I can start and stop the daemon and everything works fine 
until next reboot. This does not work if I only reinstall the package without 
uninstalling first. So this suggest that has to do with some of the 
dependencies.

If I run as a user directly the file /usr/bin/davmail   then:
- Just after an install, davmail starts as a desktop app and no problem.
- After a reboot, I get the following error on a fish shell:
Failed to execute process '/usr/bin/davmail'. Reason:
exec: Exec format error
The file '/usr/bin/davmail' is marked as an executable but could not be run by 
the operating system.

on bash I only get a set of meaningless symbols. Until I reinstall it.

I suspect that there is a problem with the java configuration on my system. 
But I have no idea what to look for. 

Any advise?

Could it be due to an undersized(or faulty) power supply?

Could a barely sized power supply, on a heavy load scenario,
lead to file system corruption?

Well, actually it doesn't exit, nor terminated at all, it crash. I don't know 
if it is
correct to define crash as an ungraceful exit.

Trapping SIGXFSZ whit a break resolve the bug in my script;

 $ trap break SIGXFSZ; while true; do echo a>>a; done
 bash: echo: errore in scrittura: File troppo grande

and running (for example)

makes bash crash when file size is reached

  Warning: Program '/bin/bash' crashed.

$ du a
1024/home/felipe/a

I would expect an error or something else (exit?)

Is it a bug?

Maybe you could fill a bug report in order to ask if it is possible
change the history behaviour about -c and -w switches, actually it
doesn't accept this combination, you cannot use

$history -c -w  
or
$history -cw

You have to run separately

$history -c
AND
$history -w

Though I don't think this is a bug.

Olá,
O Banco do Brasil possui módulo warsaw  Diebold pré empacotado para Debian 64 
bits que funciona bem, instalando as dependências que falharem, se for o caso.
Já o pacote deb de 32 bits estava errado uns meses atrás e tive de acionar 
suporte. Enfatizei que a versão 64 bits funcionava corretamente mas a 32 bits 
não.
Enviaram um link direto no site BB de um pacote (beta?) 32 bits que funcionou. 
Não sei se a versão  32 bits atual no site público já está corrigida.
Atenção: ainda NÂO FUNCIONA com Debian 9.x, APENAS com debian 8.x.
Está listado no site do BB a compatibilidade com Debian 8.7 e é isso mesmo. Não 
funciona no 9.x ainda.

I have no such lines in my .tex file, I'm starting to wondering "Is it
your (or mine!) template up to date?" or "Did your template contain

Where did you found this error? pdflatex output or *.log?
I have the same error in the *.log file but it is not prevent pdflatex
form building the related .pdf.

Corregidme si me equivoco, pero debian 9 si que trae soporte para UEFI. Lo que 
aún no soporta es secureboot, por lo que si ya has deshabilitado el arranque 
seguro en tu sistema, no deberías tener problemas con debian. Sobre todo si 
8.8 te funciona.

forma geral, não saiba interpretar ou elaborar um texto mais elaborado 
ou profundo. Acho que todos os profissionais deveriam ter certo nível de 
generalismo, mas isso não é muito apreciado no mercado.

Is it a module? At least on debian kernels, intel_pstate is inside the kernel, 
not as a separate module.

CONFIG_X86_INTEL_PSTATE=y

however, on liquorix

$ grep -i pstate config-4.9.0-3.2-liquorix-amd64
# CONFIG_X86_INTEL_PSTATE is not set

So it seems that liquorix kernel has not compiled intel_pstate. So could try 
to recompile it as a module for your running kernel of rebuild liquorix kernel 
with intel_pstate support.

Pedro: la gran mayoría de las veces se trata de gtk. Tienes que usar la
interfaz que viene por defecto en Libreoffice, que es fea pero anda muy
bien. Lo otro es desactivar java, yo no lo uso y no lo necesito nunca. Todo
esto se hace en Opciones de Libreoffice.

status-logger "logger -t dpkg -p info"

Agora no servidor remoto farei um script que irá analisar os Logs e gravar
as informações em banco de dados..

Então, na empresa que trabalho está entrando uma nova política que exige um
relatório mensal de alterações nos servidores e isso inclui pacotes
instalados ou removidos.

Ví que no /etc/dpkg/dpkg.conf é possível alterar o arquivo de log do dpkg
porém, ele simplesmente escreve no arquivo de LOG, ficando apenas
localmente no server.

Preciso que este log também seja enviado para meu servidor remoto de log.

A ideia é gerar um relatório automaticamente dos pacotes
instalados/removidos, utilizando o servidor de LOG como fonte de dados.

Alguém tem alguma dica ou já usa esse tipo de ambiente?

Isso entra nas políticas da ISO 27001. (change e patch log).

WINS - name resolution error

Hi,
starting from 2016-11-07 whit the daily upgrade (detail attached) I
spot these errors:

~$ ping google.com
ping: debian.com: Errore di sistema # literally "System error"

and, in the attempt to download email:

mpop: cannot locate host pop.*.com: File o directory non esistente #
file or directory not found


These errors seems to be related to wins, a workaround I found is to
remove or move back "wins" in /etc/nsswitch.conf, form:

hosts:  files wins dns mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=continue] mdns4

to

hosts:  files dns mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=continue] wins mdns4

I have tired, without success, to edit STATUS>ACTION field as follow:

hosts:  files wins [UNAVAIL=continue] dns mdns4_minimal 
[NOTFOUND=continue] mdns4


I would open a bug report but cannot figure out who is the culprit, it must be 
among the upgraded
packages, among these I suspect libwbclient0, I've done some tests
whit strace and ldd, but I'm not sure.

Uma coisa que pode acabar com o pendrive pra sempre é interromper um 
processo de escrita. Ex.: você manda copiar arquivos pro pendrive e o 
retira antes do fim. O contador da memória fica preso na última posição 
de escrita, aí o sistema, que está programado para encontrar informações 
do filesystem nos primeiros bytes, não vai encontrar nada.

Foi o primeiro da SanDisk que me deixou na mão. Recentemente os dois 
da MaxPrint me deixaram na mão, um morreu, outro corrompeu a partição

ter tentado o CHKDSK nele pelo windows xp, porque FAT o windows recupera.

Obrigado por sua sugestão. Engraçado é que ele parou de funcionar do

y moverla así. Ve los videos y la documentación que te envían más arriba.

Aqui onde trabalho usamos SAMBA apenas como servidor de arquivos, e nele
também utilizamos a configuração de auditoria por meio de LOGs do SAMBA.

Estou tentando configurar o SAMBA com várias linhas de full_audit, para que
cada ação tenha uma prioridade diferente.

Alguém usa o SAMBA configurado desta forma?

Configuração atual:

I have the very same model and also suffer from the high temperature problem. 
I should probably clean the fans, but another thing I usually do for normal 
usage is to limit the cpu speed.

As root:

#echo 60 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/intel_pstate/max_perf_pct

Or whatever number you feel good with. Unless I am doing heavy usage, I do not 
notice performance penalties and temperatures do not get that high.

Eu uso o mogrify, que é bem completo, mas não tem interface gráfica.

Quando minha namorada, que é leiga, tinha o Debian e precisava de alguma 
funcionalidade sem GUI, eu mandava o comando e dava instruções básicas 
pra personalizar ("mexe nessa parte pra modificar os arquivos pdf", 
etc). Talvez funcione no seu caso. O mais chato vai ser chegar no 
diretório desejado via cd.

Tenho um Samsung Chrono Series, i7, comprado há mais de 4 anos, já rodei 
Ubuntu, Debian e, atualmente, estou com Arch Linux. Faço uso intenso com 
simulações e programas pesados, nunca tive problema nenhum com Linux. 
Absolutamente nenhum problema de hardware até agora. Nem a bateria dá 
sinais de desgasto. Inicialmente, no Windows, durava cerca de 6 horas. 
Nos 3 Linux, em condições semelhantes de uso em relação ao Windows, a 
bateria sempre durou (e ainda dura) cerca de 2h30min.


Mas é complicado esse negócio de "nunca tive problema"... fica uma coisa 
muito pessoal. Recomendo procurar alguma avaliação mais científica, com 
mais valor estatístico.

Se quiser um bem lightweight, sugiro o zathura. Abandonei okular + evince.

Prós: muito leve; navegação e comandos baseados no Vim; pode colocar 
bookmarks; não precisa do mouse.


Contras: não dá pra anotar ou fazer highlight de texto.

Disclaimer: I have necer made anything further than a btrfs raid1 with two 
equally sized devices.


If you create a raid1 with the three devices you will get 750GB with 
redundancy. Current Btrfs raid1 means "data and metadata is copied twice in 
different devices". And btrfs is smart enough to not copy the data in the two 
smaller disks. I am not sure if this web page is accurate http://
carfax.org.uk/btrfs-usage/ but you can take a look.

You can also create a single virtual device from the 250 and 500 devices using 
mdadm or lvm and then create a btrfs raid1 out of the 750GB device and the 
virtual device.

With the "pure" btrfs setup, if you lose a single device you will be able to 
mount the device as "degraded".

With the mixed setting, you can lose a single device and read the data. 
Moreover, you can lose the two small devices and still be able to mount the 
volume.

Lo estás haciendo mal, si el programa tiene todos esos datos 'tal cual', te va 
a dar igual el lenguaje de programación, compilado o no. Un usuario malicioso 
podrá obtenerlos. ¿Quién se supone que tiene acceso a la BD? ¿Solo usuarios? 
¿Solo el programa? El usuario/programa que acceda a la BD ¿Puede hacer con 
ella lo que quiera? ¿debería poder?

Erro com múltiplas telas

Boa tarde!

Eu estou tendo problemas ao trabalhar com múltiplas telas(2). Ao iniciar
o PC, a tela do notebook permanece desligada e somente a segunda tela
permanece ligada não sendo possível acessar a conta por não visualizar a
tela de logon. Ao habilitar para entrar automaticamente na conta a tela
1 permanece desativada e é necessário ligar e desligar e trocar os modos
de tela para que a mesma ligue e seja possível visualizar imagem na
mesma. Por gentileza, me ajudem pois sou novo no Debian e novo no mundo
Linux. Por estar iniciando agora não faço a menor ideia de como resolver
isso. Procurei em vários sites, fóruns e não consegui encontrar a
solução. Aguardo retorno.

Lo que te está diciendo Camaleón es que no es lo mismo usar Debian unstable que 
usar 
software unstable.

Debian tiene su propia política de qué pasos debe pasar un paquete de software 
para ser 
considerado estable. Básicamente 0rc bugs y un período de cuarentena.

En sid, la mayoría de los paquetes, que no estén en estable/testing, son 
paquetes que sus 
desarrolladores calfican como "listos para su uso por el público general", pero 
que aún no 
han pasado por la política de admisión a debian estable.

El problema con thunderbird 42 es que ni siquiera los que han escrito el código 
piensan que 
está listo para su uso. Está para probarlo y dar feedback. La versión que 
Mozilla da como 
OK para su uso es la 38, precisamente la que está en sid.

Un fallo en la distro porque sea inestable normalmente puede llevar a cuelgues. 
Un fallo en 
el cliente de correo puede llevar a la pérdida de correos, un problema más 
grave en mi 
opinión.

Se me ocurre que el disco sea híbrido dmg/iso para que muestre distinto

Hola:

Es cierto que kmail instala muchas dependencias, no solo de kde, sino ¡incluso 
una base de datos mysql! 

En su día migré de thunderbird a kmail por el uso de maildir y porque era 
mucho más rápido kmail que thunderbird. Yo lo uso a diario para leer/componer 
mensajes. No se _cuánto_ soporte html necesitas, pero nunca he tenido 
problemas leyendo un correo html, y con la versión en testing/sid se pueden 
componer emails con imágenes inline, tablas y formátos de texto. Además se 
integra bien con el resto de kontact: agenda/contáctos. Si necesitas acceder a  
a los calendarios y las agendas de un servidor exchange puedes usar el proxy 
"davmail".

Las posibilidades de ordenar y reordenar al instante la carpeta de correos por 
conversaciones y más parámetros es muy buena. Aunque supongo que como 
cualquier cliente moderno de correo.

No todo es bueno, tengo dos grandes pegas con kmail:

Una es https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=339181 No es robusto en mi 
instalación cuando uso imap+copia guardada en caché (disconnected imap) si 
muevo ficheros del disconnected imap a una carpeta local (correos antiguos 
archivados), los correos se quedan en un limbo de la base de datos, pero no 
físicamente en el directorio local maildir. Tendré que revisar si el bug sigue 
activo.

En la actualidad solo uso kmail con carpetas locales maildir para leer y 
componer correos. El correo lo descargo y distribuyo en carpetas maildir 
usando fetchmail+spambayes+procmail. ¿Qué ventajas tiene esto? Pues que es 
independiente de tu MUA, puedes leer, de la misma carpeta, los correos con 
kmail o mutt o notmuch-vim.

La otra pega que tengo con kmail es la búsqueda de correos en toda la 
colección de correos. No se puede buscar por etiquetas creadas por usuario y 
la búsqueda por contenido todavía no la considero del todo fiable. La búsqueda 
mediante filtros rápidos dentro de solo una carpeta funciona bien.

La contraseña $PEPITO si que interesa. Si yo tengo los ficheros cifrados y 
conozco $PEPITO, puedo obtener $clave. $clave estará, como máximo, tan bien 
guardada como pueda estarlo $PEPITO.

No estoy de acuerdo con esa afirmación. Pero aunque lo estuviera, la lista

No se está dejando de dar soporte a 32 bits, sino solo a ciertos procesadores 
antiguos. El i686, en el que se quieren centrar, salió al mercado hace 20 años. 
El mismo kernel linux ya no funciona, en sus últimas versiones, en los primeros 
procesadores i386. Por curiosidad ¿Alguien de la lista tiene algún equipo en 
producción que no sea i686?

Recuerdo lo frustrado que me sentí cuando actualicé un linux y la nueva versión 
ya no permitía disquetes de arraque floppy porque no cabía el sistema de 
arranque en un solo disquete.

NO, podrás seguir usando debian en sus arquitecturas i386 y amd64
