Unable to switch to tty after killing X (sysRq+k) (Xorg 7.4+4)

2009-08-30 Thread Jabka Atu
Hello ,

I noticed that i can't switch to tty after X dies (or go up).

If i kill X and i get the session (after the restart) when ever i try to
go to tty1-6 i get a blank screen.
If logd in to tty7 (X) and switched to tty1-6 when i try to go back to
tty7 i got a blank screen.

no vga to kernel in grub.
Debian testing Amd64.
With Xorg 7.4+4 (from unstable).

getty is running :
ps aux | grep getty

I'm not sure I understand what it is the problem you're trying to solve.

If you want a permanent tunnel and one of the parties has a permanent
name, I'd go for openvpn instead.

Ok ,
I wish to connect to NATed application without altering the clients:
the only tool i can use is ssh (this is the only server side application
that i can use);
I can't use tun on the server (AFIAK).

for example let say that i have a dns server on a private net (
10.10.0.1) and i have the www ip (firewall) 1.2.3.4
and i wish to use this dns i understand that it should be done using tun.
next i could create a new route using tun (or anything like it) to
1.2.3.4 :
tun0 will has an aceptable ip or any other way it can work inside the
other private net.
so if tun0 is the tunnel :
# route add -host 10.10.0.1 dev tun0
so i would add nameserver 10.10.0.1

and could search in the dns.

next i wish to use build server (that has ssh ) 10.10.0.2
so simple route :
# route add -host 10.10.0.2 dev tun0

etc ...

by this i can work without any extra settings on the servers.

What is the Debian Way ?

2008-09-27 Thread Jabka Atu
Howdy ,...

In many places i encounter the phrase the Debian Way and many times i
can't really be sure what it is.

While in some places i can go to the Debian policy to understand or to
explain but when it not in fully technical point.

For example if a person describe and promote close software (the
opposite of Free software) that not only isn't free soft but it also
prevent legally unclear (research application that is founded by a some
big company in Redmond) is not the Debian way or yes ?

Does creating a deb package for close software is against the Debian
policy ?

Regards ,..

I don't know what went wrong. But if your CD works with qemu and not
with a real PC, you may use a serial console in qemu, which is not
 connected to your real PC?

Best thing you may do, to track the problem is,
boot in qemu with priority=medium or low, load the ssh-client udeb and
execute the shell udeb from the menu. You must boot in text mode, to
 make this work.

Then post the content of /proc/cmdline
and the content of your profiles/*postinst

then one may see if there are any mistakes

Problem solved.

for some reason simple-cdd sets it derfault input output to serial console.
To fix it should add the parmeter use_serial_console=false into
profiles/yourprofile.conf.
Or pass Console=tty0 at boot (install console=tty0)

Adding files to simple-cdd target

2008-07-21 Thread Jabka Atu
if you have a need to post files (copy extra files ) inside shell scripts
(for instance when you use simple-cdd ) you can use real cool gnu tools :

uuencode
uudecode

Reading there man files and googling abit gave me the next :
this will compress the directory contents , and create a script that will
extract the archive.

cd archive
tar cvvf somearachive.tar *
echo 'uudecode -o- EOF | tar xvv ' ../shellscript
uuencode configuration.tar configuration.tar ../shellscript

so if you send this script he can extract it .

just for fun you can do :

cat shellscript profiles/profilename.postinst

and this will extract this archive inside the new target debian installation
cd.

I know my english is bad but hey , after googling several hours for a
solution how to add extra files into simple-cdd installation.
I got the idea that there more people that could google for it (and not so
many know Hebrew)

I posted this also at :
http://bsh83.blogspot.com/2008/07/adding-file-to-simple-cdd-installation.html

i also tried manualy starting d-i but i don't know yet how to use simple-cdd
configurations :
so it will use presed postinst etc from /cdrom/simple-cdd

What am i doing wrong ?

Coping files into simple-cdd target.

2008-07-19 Thread Jabka Atu
Howdy ,...

I noticed that there only few simple ways to copy files inside into
simple-cdd target creation:

using mount /unmount cdrom inside profile.postinst
echoing contents of file into target using postinstall script.

And my favorite :
Using Debian package that store the dir and adding it to profile.package.

I'm sure that there a simple way to do it (i tried reading simple-cdd
source but didn't found where the coping of post inst occur ) .

How can i copy just using cp / mv etc to target on build time ?

What the proper way to create debian rescue disk (debian installed into qemu iso and dd'ed into some hard drive)

2008-07-16 Thread Jabka Atu
Howdy ,

I wish to create a Debian an image that can be dd'ed into a hard drive.
So for instance if i have a mulfunctioning hard drive i could put other disk
and just use dd to put it on.
I'm installing now (debian sid ) it now into a qemu image build using
qemu-img -f qcow filename size.
and setting all what i need.

What are the other steps that i need to do to be able achieving my task ?

I'd recommend clonezilla for making images of disks and restoring them

Yep , the idea is to copy the image into to hard drive.

What i meen is what do i need to do with the image to make suitable for

You are talking that you manually write debian/ stuff for each new
 package? Or you
manually create binary deb, without any calls to dpkg-buildpackage?

I create a dummy package using dh commands then alter all under
debian/ and the Makefile.

how is it possible to assign ip ending in 255 ?

2008-06-15 Thread Jabka Atu
Hello,...

I work in a IT-Network help desktop (help desk that is designed to
fix/assist in network problems) and few weeks ago i got a call from a
service Technion that asked me to check ips that end in 255.

At first i didn't believe him (thought he was making a prank on me or
just being an #$$).
Any way i tested and i was able to find the problem (the pc had a buggy
card) but i started to wonder -
since ip 255 is for broadcasting how is it that even go tru routers ?

while it is possible to use ip such as 10.15.0.0 broadcast 10.15.255.255
(and 10.15.15.255 can be used) but Afair it should not be transfered via
routers (as 169.254.x.x).

Windows happens to end lines in a way that's gratuitously different
from the rest of the world. Check out the tofrodos package.

Since 90% of all computers are DOS/Windows, and got that method from
CP/M, which did it that way back in 1976/77, your gratuitously

Actually, it dates back further than that, to ASR33 teletype machines,
where you needed to issue separate carriage return and line feed
characters to end a line - to i) physically return the carriage to the
beginning of the line, and ii) feed a line of paper (turn the
platten). (Anybody else out there old enough to remember when ASR33s
where THE standard i/o device? :-)

CR+LF is also required in most Internet protocols.
This is one of the surprising areas, where the Microsoft products get
things right, and the Unix world messes up.

There are some good historical references at:

 http://www.rfc-editor.org/EOLstory.txt

maybe someone allready answerd but ...
unix default line brake is ASCII 10 and windows is 13.

You can use unix2dos or tofrodos to change it.

The question what is exactly the slowness you are talking about ?
You didn't mention if you are Cable or Adsl but i write about Cable.

First off all use the local hot vpn to test if you can download /
upload with speed you are paing for.

find Bezeq's servers and download and upload while having 172.20.x.x
ip (before entering the user and client.

next download some DVD from mirror.isoc.org.il (debian).
test your speed if the speed is slower then your account the problem
is with the ISP.

How can to start hotkeys ?

2008-05-25 Thread Jabka Atu
Good day,...

I'm using acerhk to get the special key codes (multimedia keys) .
As far as i know hotkeys is the application for running special application
on key strokes.

I created a file with running atributes in /usr/bin : my_hotkeys :
cat /usr/bin/my_hotkeys
hotkeys -t acer5102

at first i added this file in /etc/profile (so it will run on each user
login) - it did load to memory but it didn't catch any keystrokes (didn't do
what it sposed to do).

Then i added a symlink in ~/.kde/Autorun but it only opened kwrite with the
contense of /usr/bin/my_hotkeys
After this i tried to create generic X file :

notebook:/etc/X11/Xsession.d# ls -l startup-local
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 35 2008-05-25 18:36 startup-local
notebook:/etc/X11/Xsession.d# cat startup-local
#!/bin/sh

/usr/bin/my_hotkeys

notebook:/etc/X11/Xsession.d# cat /usr/bin/my_hotkeys
hotkeys -t acer5102

so teorticly it should run on each login (it didn't even load ).
so i tried using a local xseason file :

notebook:/home/jabka# ls -l .xsession
-rwxr-xr-x 1 jabka jabka 35 2008-05-25 18:47 .xsession
notebook:/home/jabka# cat .xsession
#!/bin/sh

/usr/bin/my_hotkeys

the last option i used was adding my_hotkeys into .bashrc but this method
has a major flaw (on each time i login to bash or open the konsole the
application is loaded),

Regards,...
  Thank you in advance

I didn't manage to do that either. Nevertheless you can still build
 the package with module-assistant.

I don't know about Etch, but on Lenny a simple

m-a get acerhk m-a build acerhk

 did the trick.

I didn't clearfy what exactly i wish to do -
since there is a bug with this exact issue .
i wish to fix it - by setting the right value in control file or make
file of it.

i downloaded the m-a source package but even there i didn't find what
i need to change in acerhk-source to add it to the list.

afaiu m-a stores all the entries in some file (or dir) so adding
acerhk to that file will e enugth.

In virtually all cases the subscriber line to your home is terminated at

the phone company in a piece of dedicated equipment (e.g. a switch). As
such the lines can't be connected as a LAN unless the phone company does
 it.
 Larry

OK,...

but what about the people inside the building ?
as all the lines are connected to the same switch.

Did you look at the newest version of Cups in Debian or just at the
package in the stable Debian release? Looking at
 http://packages.debian.org/sid/all/cupsys-common/filelist, I would
assume that these translations _are_ there, at least the po files.

the po files are only for the CLI (the normal user don't see it at all).

The loclization is in two things :
The Cli - Uses po files.
The Web-Gui - Uses html file and images.

The html files and images seem to be included in the cupsys package.

Separate per-language packaegs are only used in some extereme cases
where the translations are huge. In most cases they are just part of the
 main package.

I would disagree with you about that (the extreme situation):

Since cups is used in many companies and in some academic facilities you can
be sure that the end users or IT-personal would prefer localized versions :

For example im working on a free billing solution that end users without
computer skills will operate.
I believe that using a localized version will be much easier than an english
one for end users.

I use pykota as the user management
Cups.

The translation that the user has aren't so big (stored in doc) :
Pictures (buttons).
a Po file.

So a translated version could be :
full cups translated version -
perhaps it can be done using some compile farm (i hope im using the right
term) -
since the only difference between translated and non translated is a
parameter to the Makefile.
but i don't wont to fork cups ;-)
Img - translation -
Maybe using another package that will depend on cupsys and change it's
files (the buttons and the css file).

about the next i don't know:
I don't know about the usability of translation if you need to recompile
the package and recreate it (this is what i understand that i need to do
now).

btw i don't know what is a huge translation -
Since the Ophear's version (Hebrew translation) translated all the messages
(the po file) .
The web gui - he created all the buttons from scratch.
And changed the css file.

Afaik he changed the printing script.

If i have a mistake and you can change the gui / cli language just by one
setting please explain how.

Hmm, it looks a little tricky, but
 http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/faq says that you can
 import Mbox files into Thunderbird.

It says that you do it by copying an Mbox file to the Mail/Local
Folders directory within your profile directory.

By the way, /var/mail/username files are Mbox files.

importing an mbox file only copies the contense of file will prevent
you from getting new mail.
So you might end up running something like this:

The shell command would end up looking something like this:
 cp /var/mail/username ~/.mozilla-thunderbird/blergh.default/Mail/Local\
Folders

I tried the above the problem is that by coping you stuck with what
was allrady in the file and if you get new mails you don't know about it .
*
*so i did a sym link :
ln -s /var/mail/jabka
/home/jabka/.mozilla-thunderbird/2i25fsli.default/Mail/Local\
Folders/jabkamail

or in more common way :
ln -s /var/mail/YOURUSERNAME
/home/YOUR_USERNAME/.mozilla-thunderbird/SOME_DIR.default/Mail/Local\
Folders/SOME_FILE_NAME *
*
The problem is that afaik to see the diffrence in incoming mails you
have to restart thunderbird (icedove).

 Then restart Thunderbird.

 Tom

There have already been some useful suggestions.

One more: on kpdf, the right mouse button selects a rectangle whose
contents can be copied to the clipboard. Useful for pasting small parts
of text to other applications. For full pages/documents try pdftotext.

Likewise xpdf and evince. Or the command-line pdftotext . They all use
the same basic PDF library (xpdf / popller), so they'll probably handle
 PDFs rather similarly.

This is true when the pdf is mixed of text with pictures but not when
the pdf is only pictures -
For example if you used gscan2pdf without gocr.

In this case you need to run gocr on each page .

How can to set debian to write as less as possible (to use it on Flash drive)

2008-02-04 Thread Jabka Atu
Good day,...

Since my main pc is laptop i need something that will be as faill proof as
posible.
so i thought maybe to use flash drive as main drive and forget the swap or
what ever the problem rises how ?

I'm not sure but most of todaies flash drive has a lifetime for 50K write
per bit (not sure since i read about 100K somewhere) so it is really bad
idea to use flash as swap or /var/log etc.

the main question is how to set my favorite flavor (sid , sorry etch but i
don't love backports.. ) to work with as less as possible writes?
Ideas ? guides ? or what ever ...

To understend how to start

but who can i disable writes without damaging my system i guess linked tmp
with ramdisk is a start but i need more ideas .

Thank you in advance.

sure, just cp the .debs from /var/cache/apt/archives and then install

if it isn't many files it is a good solutione (dpkg -i file.deb to

Help Offering in Geographical programs design

2008-01-16 Thread Jabka Atu
I don't know if any one here need it but still:

In the last few month i work with Mathimatical analysys of srfuaces :
This isn't plain geographical work but it a bit related.
Since i can't free the full source (Copy rights local laws and more ) i can
free small individual part of code (under LGPL) for now we work with the
next terrein format :
start
Amount /* an integer that dscribes the amount of patches */
N * N /* how many points inside a given patch */
x1,y1,z1 x2,y2,z2 ... /* three Float numbers that describe the reltive
offset from som givin surfaces */

/end

This isn't the best format (but it is what i was given).
The system is designed to find a reltive close surface that can be used
instead the original.

Since it is pure math (that was discribed in the 1960's it can be given
or reproduced ) .

If you work in this area and need help feel free to contact me.

P.s
If you answar this CC me .

how to create a debian package from an icon pack ?[simple rules file ]

2007-12-26 Thread Jabka Atu
I guess not many will ever need it but ...

So you downloaded your favorite icon pack and you to create a
KDE-icon-foo package.

if there will changes i will post them here :
http://bsh83.blogspot.com/2007/12/how-to-create-debian-package-from-icon.html
just remember to hold your icon pack inside a tar.gz (compress the dir)

the script (rules file ) i used :
#!/usr/bin/make -f
#
#
#This Rules script had been created by Boris Shtrasman and it is
released under the GPLv3 license
#to use it you should :
#1. download your favorite icon set.
#2. create a directory : kde-icon-iconpackname-version
#3. Using dh_make create a debian package :
# dh_make --f sourcefile from the directory with the name
kde-icon-whatever-version
#4. Edit control + changelog + dirs +copyrights
#5. copy this file inside debian/ directory.
#6. change the `package=kde-icons-nuovext` string to

maybe this is the wrong place i will be glad if it will be forwarded
to the correct place.

On my lpatop i have samba shares (Debian Testing) and the
configuration is here :

[CODE][global]
workgroup = MSHOME
netbios name = acerium
security = share
server string = %h server
[iso]
path = /mnt/hda2/iso
browsable = yes
writeable = no
guest ok =yes
comment = ISO files (mostly debian related)

[movies]
forceuser = Temp
path = /mnt/hda2/movie
comment = Guess what ?
browsable = yes
guest ok=yes
writeable = no

[download]
forceuser = Temp
path = /mnt/hda3/download
comment = Guess what ?
browsable = yes
guest ok=yes
writeable = no

[games]
forceuser = Temp
path = /mnt/hda2/games
 comment = Guess what
browsable = yes
guest ok=yes
writeable = no
[/CODE]

When i work with routers (i get an ip and get all the names from
nameservers)
i can easily accsed by smb://acerium (servername) or can be checked
by smbclient -L //acerium

but when i work with Ad-Hoc i can't resolve.

when i try to check smb://work_group i get no computers in your
workgroup. (from memory maybe it said in diffrent words)

maybe it is related to the thing that the samba server isn't the main
one . or some thing related to domain master = yes
but the problem with that is : (it will interfeare with other NT
domain masters.)

Thank you in advance..

[OT] Service manual guide for acer 5100 5102 wlmi

Hello,..

This is extremely offtopic but since this mailing list is read by
1000s (may be more ) maybe one will need it.

For the last few years Acer stopped releasing the service manuals to
the common public and i found one on rapidshare today.

http://rs109.rapidshare.com/files/40085805/SG_AS5110_5100_3100_TM5510_5210_EX5410_5010_BOOK.pdf

the main issue that four (maybe more) month ago i was told that you
cann't flash the eeprom bios (to delete a password) and to change it
the service place wanted 1600 NIS ~ 420$ (the laptop cost 1200$)

Enjoy.

How to install wifi card [newbe]

Hello,..

After really frustrating phone call (explaining how to get the wifi to
work on etch on ivtv card ) i started to wonder

Does anyone work on an automatic tool to recognize and build the
module (either with m-a or wget+make+make install) ?

I thought about biulding a package that will get _ALL_ wifi modules
(including Ndiswrapper) but will only install the relative module
using Lexical anlyzer from lspci (to get the name).

Any better ideas will be welcome.

How do you recommend to get ready for installing Etch (or lenny ) on
unknown pcs ?

A package like that would be near useless. For ndiswrapper there are
many GUIs, and for everything else there are drivers (ipw3945, for
 example).

The problem starts mostly on Debian install party while all the area
is covered with Broadband wirless network (Thank you SCE for it)
There are not ethernet cards to connect to get the package from the net.
so i find myself creating a seprate disk with:
some kernel sources , lots of module source files
or Just 4 debian dvds (Just in case).
Since you don't know what you may need .

How do you recommend to get ready for installing Etch (or lenny ) on

If the system came with an OS pre-installed, use lspci (Or whatever the
Windows equivalent is) and write down all of the hardware. Video card,
sound card, wireless chip, etcetera. You will need all of this when it
comes time to install Debian, since Debian doesn't install a majority of
that by itself, and leaves it up to the end-user.

This is exactly what i can't affored myself (since on Install parties
you can't say: sorry mate your wifi isn't working we need to bring you
some more divers).

while with normal drivers (! Ndiswrapper) you can apt-get / wget there
you need to google for it.

P.s
on most Install parties / meetings we use allready created Wirelless
BroadBand Network or Ad-Hoc based .

How do you make your life secure (software based)?

2007-11-26 Thread Jabka Atu

Hash: SHA1

This is a bit 1984' but i had to ask ..

Since the last few laws in Israel (that make the patriotic act hold
the privacy of citizens) i started to search for more private ways

could you help?

since here most of the data leeks (to criminals, compenies, any one who
need the data) i started to fear a bit :

I really wish to be able to get life insurance or to be able to study
or not to be called at 6 am and been asked if i wish to buy a course
in Windows (it actually happened today).

so the real questions :

1. How would you suggests to transfer audio (encrypted) calls to any pc ?.

2. How do you make your surfing more secure (except using fake MAC ,
proxy connection , Tor based ).

3. Running netstat and nmap on a weekly bases.

4. Don't use anywhere your real name and any information about your self.

what more ?

The most lows gives any person that related to any govermnet agency
(police , education, Lawyers , College lecturer , private
investigators etc).

can get the next info on any given person in the area :

IMEI , MAC for phones.

Phone Number.

Owned MAC for a pc.

Physical location (gps or phone based).

phone call list (only for people in the police (secretary , police
man etc. ) or economic related (Banks , Tax offices and more).

i wrote about this on
http://bsh83.blogspot.com/search/label/%D7%A4%D7%A8%D7%98%D7%99%D7%95%D7%AA

(Hebrew and english (with lots of grammar errors..) posts)

Over the internet? You may tunnel almost everything through SSH. I don't
care very much about these things in my local network, though.

  2. How do you make your surfing more secure (except using fake MAC ,

Disable Javascript when you don't need it, throw away cookies you don't
 want.

BTW, faking your MAC address will not help you at all. The only systems
who can see it from the outside belong to your provider who already
 knows who you are.

Sorry i didn't write :
Use only only open public networks (not inside Educational or banks
since there are many video cams).

VTA:
Application that enables a MF to write to a file stored on ordinary
pc (the normal way is to write to tapes).

since the tut isn't so easy to translate (40 pages) im not sure if
anyone even need it.

Is there anyone ?

Also i couldn't find maintainers that works with MF related software :
I wrote some code (mostly that will run on VSE / Power but it may
help to work with Main Frames).

How to make a movie to play on Full Screen (on Wide-screen)

2007-11-16 Thread Jabka Atu
Hello,...

I wish to play some movies on dear lenny (Testing).

lenny lives with a wide screen (Acer 5102 wlmi 15.4) and i have some
issues with the full screen :

when i play a movie that was designed for 4:3 screen xine will add black
lines around the video.

so i get a smaller view inside a box.

any ideas ?

I think that there is a way to enlarge the image (video) so it will fill
the screen (in full mode).

Thank you in advance

After an enpropreate understanding of pykota i was guided to the truth
(by mistake i thought that the author didn't want to distribute the

So i thought maybe i should start a new project (i have to much spare

That will give me the solution but first of all i need to test if
anybody all ready work on a web based solution.

So ?.

Help with Algorythm to test if a progrem is secure,

2007-11-12 Thread Jabka Atu
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hello,...
After a related post i thought that i should design an a algorithm to
test if a program is secure.
1.Google / IRC  for the program name || Security  ||  Trojan  ||
hacks etc .. if found the don't use that program.
2.If possible read source code or give it to some body for finding stuff.
3.Install it on a Virtual Machine (qemu) on a pc without network
connection (physical).
Test for new open ports and Google for them.
Test for pending connection (netstat -a 127.0.0.1)
4.Connect the Virtual machine to a small LAN (with a LOT of domains )
search for iptables or other related strange logs.
make some testes (Are there strange DNS quarries ? )
5.install and connect the pc to a real network.

How to set page qouta in Cups ?

2007-11-07 Thread Jabka Atu
Hello,..

I tried to set page qouta in cups so a printer will only print n pages
for each user in a day.
to test this i used the Virtual Pdf printer (CUPS-PDF).

i went to the console and using lpadmin i set the printer to
job-page-limit = 1 :
#/usr/sbin/lpadmin -p cups-pdf -o job-quota-period=86400 -o
job-page-limit=1

then i restarted cupsys
and started to print:
each user could print as many pages and print jobs (and not only 1 per
user as i wished).

Thank you in advance

Dear Rick,..

Im not sure about the dn version but as said on open printing :

The 2605 has perfect support by hplip package
Rick Thomas wrote:

The immediate problem is for Sarge, but I expect I'll also discover

 it's fairly new.

 So here's the question:

I just got a new HP color LaserJet 2605dn printer. The CUPS setup
doesn't seem to have a driver for it.
Does anybody have an idea where to get appropriate driver software
(I *think* it's just a PPD file, but I don't know for sure) and once
I've got it, how to install it?

 Thanks in advance!

Is this what you mean? Google didn't find any software win/lin/mac for
 me.
Yes.

As we been told most of the software in the academy is Commercial and
you can't see the code.
Some of the use of BTN based software is in (As been told) in Bio an
Chemistry Eng.

Also i didn't find any application using Google since this is
extreamly low level (i can't how it will effect C or higher langs).

Search for lintian errors with man files

After frustrating few weeks with man file issues.

When packaging i thought it will be best that i will write somewhere
how to overcome them.

I only had 3 errors but i'm sure that ppl know more error and how to
fix them (i don't really want to read lintian code to see how each
error is produced (but maybe it is the way).

So i started a post about it on
http://bsh83.blogspot.com/2007/11/man-file-in-debian-packaging-errors.html
could you please advice where i can find more lintian errors (with man
files) ? (or send me errors with howto fix ?)

Hello,..

I started today Lex course and we was told that we can't use FOSS
solution since there is diffrence between flex and lex output.

since i don't belive so much to me T.A anymore
(http://bsh83.blogspot.com/search/label/%D7%9C%D7%99%D7%9E%D7%95%D7%93%D7%99%D7%9D
Hebrew )
I ask you .
maybe they are wrong and flex gives the same output as lex on AIX ?

P.s.

The compilers are cc and gcc .

Thnx in advance.

Interesting, I hadn't heard of that. Do you know if anyone has done
work to link this with a system like Conquoction and get mechanized

It's aint Free software (bummer) but the source code checking system
that is used in Ben Gurion University uses mathematical approach to
calculate potential places with bad code (sorry for the 3rd grade
language).

there is also use of CICS systems (IBM developers can help there ... )
that used Z in the design (that what had been said in wikipedia).

 Hi all,

I'm one of the few people on the planet without a digital camera.

I have a tiny job to do on my wife's horn glasses if I can't get the
shop to do it. The hinges need changing and I'm told that its
impossible for the manufacturer to halt the production line for a month
to do it and nobody else is set up for what ammounts to microsurgery.

I've done small work before but this is so tiny that actually seeing
what I'm doing will be one of the big challenges. The existing hinges
are 3mm x 3mm x 15mm or so and are resessed into the temple about 1.5
mm. The old ones have to be mechanically removed, the divit filled with
a replacement piece of horn, then new hinges fitted.

I'm wondering if normal consumer-grade digital cameras that have a macro
function (such as some of the Panasonic ones) can hook up to my linux
box to allow continuous viewing (like a close-up video camera). I would
 mount it on a tripod.

What software would be recommended? Would VLC do that?

I'm a cardiac nurse and I'm not so worried about the hand-eye nature of
the job, I just don't know if standard consumer hardware will do it.

 Ideas?

 Thanks,

 Doug.

- From my small experience with close range closed cir cute cameras
(Production line Safety).
we used several creative PC-CAM (750) with lennse addition (to get
more light from each cam)

if you do use USB web cams be aware that you can't use more then one
web cam on usb 1 and usb 1.1. (i don't know about usb 2).

we used motion with apache to access the webcams.
also there is use of special program that process the images.

Re: Is there a Vtubes solution for debian

2007-10-10 Thread Jabka Atu

I found the answer to your question.

i talked today with to MF system team members and i got the next info :
Vtubes is in application on the MainFrame that create sevral virtual
connection on the MF itself so all communication between Vtubes and
Server and application are made on the MF infrastructure.

when a person starts Vtubes on his local machine what really happens
that some sort terminal emulation program (Lognet , PowerTerm etc ...)
connects to specific MF application threw normal TCP/IP .

now since the connection is between terminal and an application
(Vtubes) it is a little bit hard to run programs or other things on
the MF itself.

what i did found that both terminal (PowerTerm and Lognet) uses very
similar scripting language (that i guess could be used).

also the application creates new virtual connection according the
profile of the user.
then all the virtual connection are tunneled threw only on e connection.

so what i need to actually search is an terminal emulation that knows
how to work with MF (VTXXX ).

Vtubes is an terminal application that creates sevral forks of
terminal that connot to distant computers (MainFrames , Unix machines
  etc) .

i don't know how the connection is made on the server side but afaik
each new fork get name that is based on the user that connected to
 vubes.

My Googling indicates that VTUBES is a facility on mainframes.
 http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/msg00325.html

Does vtubes establish multiple simultaneous connections via a
special vtubes protocol? Otherwise, there's x3270 for mainframe
connectivity and ssh for everything else.
