I use USB OTGs of embedded devices behind an USB hub, and the interface names vary between various power cycles of the embedded devices. Note the debian box keeps running in the meantime. I can turn on the device, get interface name #1, then turn it off again, then get interface name #1i1 (note the i1), then turn it off again, then get interface name #2 ad nauseatum. This is all but predictable. (on a side note, systemd-networkd can't properly Match= these things on name as well). I don't see this as contradictory to what I wrote (and how I understand it, as a "mere" systemd user). So yeah, during configuration development you'd run it manually, throw the file into the correct spot (/etc in that case, I suppose) and future boots will then no longer require manual interaction your behalf, i.e., you'd run the command once, to get the tmp file(s) up during your current boot (i.e., after systemd-tmpfiles-setup.service has already run) but rely on s-t-s.service from then on. In which of the three, /{etc,run,usr/lib}/tmpfiles.d ? According to systemdese,
the distribution files belong in /usr/lib/ (check the directory, I believe you
won't find it empty), administrator adjustments in /etc (so no surprise a
vanilla install doesn't have those) and /run, uhmm.. Ask a systemd disciple.

Where'd you get that one from? tmpfiles.d(5) references systemd-tmpfiles(8),
which follows the typical systemd naming scheme of systemd-xxx for systemd
specific service applications. I suggest you report a docco bug for the
referencing file mentioning systemd.tmpfiles instead of systemd-tmpfiles.

You're not exactly supposed to call systemd-tmpfiles yourself.
systemd-tmpfiles(8) documents the systemd services that call
systemd-tmpfiles(8).
During configuration development, it might be helpful for the administrator to
manually verify their configuration though, so let's rejoice this manpage
exists.

Some problems are inherently complex, and lead to verbose solutions, simply

I suggest you look at your "var.conf" tmpfiles.d entry (the one from your
distribution). The situation you describe creates a circular symbolic link.

NC problem
I'm trying to install Debian on an oldish Fujitsu Lifebook laptop. Apparently the installation doesn't recognize the network connection (no DHcP lease) while I know that it works at least with Windows (I have another disk I swap with on assignments). Ich möchte beim Faxempfang über das faxrcvd-Skript eine Tonmeldung ausgeben. Also hab ich in /var/spool/hylafax/bin/faxrcvd am Ende den Befehl /usr/bin/play blah.mp3 eingefügt. Beim Empfang ist aber nichts zu hören. Die normale Meldung an den Faxmaster kommt wie immer. Ich habe z.Zt. kleine Probleme im eigenen Netzwerk mit meiner IP. Es gibt einige Leute, die meine IP belegen und ich somit immer wieder eine neue IP wählen muss. Wie kann ich verhindern, dass andere meine IP belegen oder mir wenigstens mal etwas Respekt verschaffen kann ? Es nervt auf Dauer, wenn bei jedem Neustart meine vorher belegte IP schon wieder von jemand anderem benutzt wird. Cups druckt mit Schatten

Sieht dann so aus, als obs Schatten sei. In den Drucker-Einstellungen (bei Win) ist Standard Farbdruck. Beim Umstellen auf Schwarz-Weiß druckt er ganz normal aus, Phänomen tritt also nur beim Farbdruck auf. Hylafax - Capi not installed or active
