2006-10-13 Thread KLEIN Stéphane

Hi,

I would like build debian package for jdk-1_5_0_09-linux-i586.bin

I test on stable and testing.

I do :

fakeroot make-jpkg jdk-1_5_0_09-linux-i586.bin

I've this :

/home/stephane/jdk-1_5_0_09-linux-i586.bin: line 419: /etc/mailcap:

Done.

enough free disc space in the temporary directory. Note: You can
specify an alternate directory by setting the environment variable
TMPDIR.

Aborted.

tmpfs 15M 4.0K 15M 1% /dev/shm

It's a bug ? You've the same issue with this java version ?

Thanks for your help,
Stephane

install jdk-1_5_0_04-linux-i586.bin fails with too many arguments

2005-07-03 Thread Randall J. Parr
I am trying to install the Sun JDK 1.5.0_04 on sarge (moving on to
testing) and it fails as below.

# sh jdk-1_5_0_04-linux-i586.bin
...

...
Creating jdk1.5.0_04/jre/lib/javaws.jar
Creating jdk1.5.0_04/jre/lib/deploy.jar
dirname: too many arguments
Try `dirname --help' for more information.
dirname: too few arguments
Try `dirname --help' for more information.

Anyone have a fix for this? I'd really rather avoid having to tear into
thier install script if its already known how to fix it.

Yes. Don't install directly. First, install the java-package package
(and fakeroot if you don't already have it). Then run this:

$ fakeroot make-jpkg jdk-1_5_0_04-linux-i586.bin
$ dpkg -i name_of_resulting.deb

Then, future upgrades will include all the Debian goodness of updating
the relevant symlinks. This also allows you to have simultaneously
installed jdk1.5, jdk1.4 and so on, and then manage which one you
actually use with update-alternatives or a suitable GUI over it.

Re: JDK for Linux

1997-12-27 Thread Alex Yukhimets
Does anyone know what the story is with JDK? .According to my packages
file, the stable debian packages is ver 1.0.2.. Sun recently released
 ver 1.2 (For Solaris/Windoze)..
Is the package behind because Sun hasn't released any / any stable versions
for linux beyond 1.0.2, or because the package hasn't been updated, or what?

 Thanx,
 Timothy

Hi.

First, regarding your question about netscape. Check out
ftp://ftp.netscape.com for more recent versions. 4.0.x is available
for quite some time already.

As for JDK, JDK 1.1.3 is available as a debian package in
hamm/non-free (It can be safely installed on your stable system).
If you want to use both 1.0.2 and 1.1.3 simultaneously, I would
recommend downloading 1.1.3 directly from
http://www.blackdown.org/java-linux.html

The latest stable release of JDK from Sun is 1.1.5 and it _is_ available
for Linux at ftp://lagrange.la.asu.edu/pub/Linux_jdk/JDK-1.1.5/
This port is by a different person (Sergey Nikitin) than 1.1.3 and
franckly, I would not recommend using it because it is compiled
against glibc2 (libc6) while Motif libraries that are currently
available are still libc5 based. And dependence on both libc5 and
libc6 of the same binary is not a good idea.

Yes, Sun released JDK 1.2 beta2 recently for Solaris and Windows.
To start working on Linux port we need to have a source code of the
release which is not available (yet). Previous Sun's practice shows
that the source would be available only after full (not beta) release.
